The data on the total population and that of people 65 or older, the number of nursing homes for this latter group, and the number of beds in these homes in cities in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East is compared to equivalent data for the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The rate of the elderly population and number of persons per bed in nursing homes was of special interest to this inquiry.
