ABSTRACT Nanostructured TiO2 and TiO2/W thin films were deposited on Corning glass substrates by RF and DC magnetron co-sputtering at room temperature, using three targets of TiO, Ti and W. After deposition, samples were subjected to an annealing treatment in air at 500 °C for 3 hrs. The effect of the annealing treatment and tungsten addition to the TiO2 matrix were studied by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Morphology and composition was studied with field emission scanning electron microscopy and optical characterization was made with UV-Vis spectroscopy. All the obtained samples presented an amorphous TiO2 phase; however, after the annealing treatment, a crystallization process from amorphous to anatase phase occurred with gain sizes between 15.6 and 18.3 nm, additionally, a small amount of rutile was also observable. The SEM images corroborated the XRD behavior, besides it was possible to calculate the thickness of the films which was greater for the W-doped films owing the extra power of the sputtering growth, and after the samples had the thermal treatment the thickness decreased due to a more organized structure. Finally, the UV-vis transmittance analysis revealed that the transmittance is higher in heat-treated films as compared to those without any thermal treatment; also, the TiO2 thin films showed a greater transmittance than the W doped TiO2 films, reaching 91%. The lack of transmittance in the non-thermal-treated films made it impossible to compute the band gap of the films; nevertheless, for the thermal-treated films the band gap had a minimal change to the classic TiO2 bang gap value, even for the W doped sample, providing them with the benefits of the tungsten within the same TiO2 structure due to a great homogenization on the structure.

Objetivo: Analisar os valores de captação (SUVs) utilizando três diferentes intensidades de mAs para realização de correção de atenuação na 18F-NaF PET/CT. Materiais e Métodos: Um total de 254 exames de 18F-NaF PET/CT foi estudado utilizando 10, 20 e 30 mAs. Os SUVs foram calculados utilizando volumes de interesse (VOIs) desenhados em três regiões do esqueleto: diáfise proximal do úmero direito (UD), diáfise proximal do fêmur direito (FD) e primeira vértebra lombar (VB1), totalizando 712 VOIs. Desse total, 675 regiões classificadas como normal foram analisadas (236, 232 e 207 na UD, FD e VB1, respectivamente). Resultados: A média dos SUVs para cada região óssea foi 3,8, 5,4 e 14,4 para UD, FD e VB1, respectivamente. Quando os exames foram agrupados pelo valor da corrente mAs, a média de valores de captação foi 3,8, 3,9 e 3,7 para 10, 20 e 30 mAs, respectivamente, na UD; 5,4, 5,5 e 5,4 para 10, 20 e 30 mAs, respectivamente, na FD; e 13,8, 14,9 e 14,5 para 10, 20 e 30 mAs, respectivamente, na VB1. Conclusão: As três correntes analizadas apresentaram resultados similares para o cálculo de SUV.

Objective: To analyze standardized uptake values (SUVs) using three different tube current intensities for attenuation correction on 18FNaF PET/CT scans. Materials and Methods: A total of 254 18F-NaF PET/CT studies were analyzed using 10, 20 and 30 mAs. The SUVs were calculated in volumes of interest (VOIs) drawn on three skeletal regions, namely, right proximal humeral diaphysis (RH), right proximal femoral diaphysis (RF), and first lumbar vertebra (LV1) in a total of 712 VOIs. The analyses covered 675 regions classified as normal (236 RH, 232 RF, and 207 LV1). Results: Mean SUV for each skeletal region was 3.8, 5.4 and 14.4 for RH, RF, and LV1, respectively. As the studies were grouped according to mAs value, the mean SUV values were 3.8, 3.9 and 3.7 for 10, 20 and 30 mAs, respectively, in the RH region; 5.4, 5.5 and 5.4 for 10, 20 and 30 mAs, respectively, in the RF region; 13.8, 14.9 and 14.5 for 10, 20 and 30 mAs, respectively, in the LV1 region. Conclusion: The three tube current values yielded similar results for SUV calculation.

Types C and D strains of Clostridium botulinum are commonly related to avian and mammalian botulism. Although there are numerous vaccine recommendations, little research has been conducted to indicate the real effectiveness of vaccine timing or the ideal immunization protocol for young beef calves. Four commercially available vaccines, two bivalent (Clostridium botulinum types C and D; vaccines 1 and 2) and two polyvalent (all Clostridium spp. including Clostridium botulinum types C and D; vaccines 3 and 4), that are currently used in Brazilian herds, were tested in order to verify the maternal immune response. One hundred cows, divided into four vaccinated groups and one unvaccinated group, were given a two-dose subcutaneous immunization, at day zero, followed by a second dose given at 42 days post-vaccination, which corresponded to 40 days before birth. Serum samples (n = 75) were collected only from healthy neonatal calves at 0, 7, 45 and 90 days post-calving (DPC) and subjected to indirect ELISA using the purified C and D holotoxins as capture antigens. The serological profile showed that all vaccines were able to induce a satisfactory neonatal immune response to both holotoxins at 7 DPC. However, at 45 and 90 DPC, a significant reduction (p < 0.05) was observed in the antibody level against C and D holotoxins in all tested vaccines. Neonatal immunization in calves is compromised by significant levels of maternal antibodies so that the necessity of planning a calf vaccination program involves assessment of disease risks at the production site. Finally, our findings represent the first demonstration of maternal immunity transferred to neonatal beef calves, including immunity levels after vaccination against Clostridium botulinum toxoids C and D.
