Abstract This exploratory study investigated whether children with dental decay were more likely to have COVID-19 than those without caries. The children underwent dental inspection and blood collection for detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Fifty-four children aged 6 to 9 years participated in the survey, which was conducted between March and June 2020 in the municipality of Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brazil. The diagnosis of caries was performed using the dmft and DMFT indices. Parents reported signs and symptoms of sickness in their children during this period. The serology test aimed to verify the immune response of the children to coronavirus by detecting IgM/IgG antibodies. Statistical analyses were performed at P < 0.05. The majority of the children presented caries (68.5%). Of the nine children who tested positive for COVID-19 (16.7%), eight presented IgG antibodies to the virus, and only one had IgG and IgM antibodies to SARS-CoV2. Children who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 had a higher percentage of caries lesions than those who tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 (77.8% vs 65.9%), but this difference was not statistically significant.

Abstract Background: The reported incidence and fatality rate of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in patients receiving chronic dialysis are higher than in the general population. We sought to study the outcomes following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) diagnosis in patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD) in a single center in Brazil. Methods: Of the 522 patients on dialysis evaluated between March 1, 2020, and October 1, 2021, those presenting symptoms or with a history of close contact with COVID-19 patients were tested with reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction of samples from nasopharyngeal swabs. Results: Of the 522 patients, 120 were positive for COVID-19 infection, of which 86% were on HD and 14% in the PD program. The incidence per 10,000 inhabitants was higher in the HD group than in the PD group (2,423.5 vs. 1,752.5). The mortality per 10,000 inhabitants (470.5 vs. 927.8) and the fatality rate (19.4 vs. 52.9%, p = 0.005) were higher in the PD group. The PD group also had a higher need for hospitalization, intensive care, and mechanical ventilation. Conclusions: We advise caution when considering strategies to transfer patients from HD to the PD program to minimize the risk of COVID-19 for patients on HD.

Resumo Antecedentes: A incidência e a taxa de letalidade da síndrome respiratória aguda grave por coronavírus 2 relatadas em pacientes em diálise crônica são mais elevadas do que na população em geral. Procuramos estudar os desfechos após o diagnóstico da doença por coronavírus 2019 (COVID-19) em pacientes submetidos à hemodiálise crônica (HD) ou diálise peritoneal (DP) em um único centro no Brasil. Métodos: Dos 522 pacientes em diálise avaliados entre 1º de Março de 2020 e 1º de Outubro de 2021, aqueles que apresentaram sintomas ou tiveram histórico de contato próximo com pacientes com COVID-19 foram testados com reação em cadeia da polimerase de transcrição reversa por meio de amostras de esfregaços nasofaríngeos. Resultados: Dos 522 pacientes, 120 foram positivos para infecção por COVID-19, dos quais 86% estavam em HD e 14% no programa de DP. A incidência por 10.000 habitantes foi maior no grupo HD do que no grupo DP (2.423,5 vs. 1.752,5). A mortalidade por 10.000 habitantes (470,5 vs. 927,8) e a taxa de letalidade (19,4 vs. 52,9%, p = 0,005) foram mais elevadas no grupo DP. O grupo DP também apresentou uma maior necessidade de hospitalização, terapia intensiva e ventilação mecânica. Conclusões: Recomendamos cautela ao considerar estratégias de transferência de pacientes do programa de HD para o de DP a fim de minimizar o risco de COVID-19 para pacientes em HD.

Abstract: The new coronavi rus, which has spread worldwide, has spiraled out of control in Brazil. The number of infected children has increased, and more Infants Special Care Units are needed to prevent deaths. This study aims to report the most common signs and symptoms in children infected by seasonal respiratory viruses and those infected by COVID-19. This knowledge is essential to educate pediatric dentists, who may contribute to identifying the difference in symptoms and notify the cases, thus preventing the spread of COVID-19. This study was carried out in a Family Health Center of Ipojuca, state of Pernambuco, Brazil, and included 54 children seen for dental emergency care. The parents provided information about the signs and symptoms of their children’ s health conditions during the lockdown from March to July 2020. All children had a serological test to detect any exposure to the virus. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney tests were used to assess the distribution of the data and compare the quantitative variables between the groups. Among the study participants, 16.7% tested positive for COVID-19. The most prevalent symptoms were headache (38.9%), sneezing (35.2%), and fever (20.4%); six out of nine children with a positive test had symptoms after infection of an adult in the family. Children infected with COVID-19 showed similar clinical signs to those with negative results. Pediatric dentists should acquire knowledge to report on sick children and prevent the spread of the disease.

Neste trabalho pretendemos pensar a questão da verdade em psicanálise a partir de sua aproximação ao conceito de pós-verdade e às fake news, notícias falsas que ganham status de verdade absoluta e fomentam ódio nas redes sociais. Ao serem divulgadas em redes interligadas, elas fazem a palavra circular numa amplitude maior. Assim, no que diz respeito ao campo da psicanálise, a explosão de fake news e seus efeitos no discurso promovem questionamentos sobre a relação da linguagem com o campo do Outro e seus efeitos pulsionais, levando-nos ao debate sobre a ordem simbólica em nosso século.

Resumos In this paper, we intend to think about the issue of truth in psychoanalysis, based on its proximity to the idea of post-truth and to the fake news, which achieve status of absolute truth and foment hatred in social networks. For being disseminated in interconnected networks, they allow words to widely circulate. Concerning the field of psychoanalysis, the explosion of fake news and their effects on discourse raise questions about the relationship of language and the field of the Other, and about its drive effects, leading us to debate the symbolic order in our century.

En este trabajo pretendemos reflexionar sobre la cuestión de la verdad en el psicoanálisis a partir de su aproximación al concepto de posverdad y fake news – noticias falsas que cobran apariencia de verdades absolutas y que fomentan el odio en las redes sociales. Al ser compartidas en redes interconectadas, hacen que la palabra circule con mayor amplitud. De esta forma, en lo que se refiere al campo del psicoanálisis, el aumento exponencial de las fake news y sus efectos en el discurso, promueven preguntas sobre la relación entre el lenguaje y el campo del Otro y sus efectos pulsionales, llevándonos al debate sobre el orden simbólico en nuestro siglo.

Dans cet article, nous réfléchissons sur la question de la vérité en psychanalyse en l’associant au concept de la post-vérité et des fake news, soit les fausses nouvelles qui ont acquis un statut de vérité absolue et stimulent la haine dans les réseaux sociaux. Lorsqu’elles sont diffusées sur des réseaux interconnectés, elles augmentent le taux de circulation des mots ou des discours. Ainsi, en ce qui concerne le domaine de la psychanalyse, l’explosion des fake news et ses effets sur le discours suscitent des questions sur le rapport du langage au champ de l’Autre tout comme ses effets pulsionnels, ouvrant le débat sur l’ordre symbolique de notre siècle.

ABSTRACT Background: The reported incidence and fatality rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients receiving maintenance dialysis are higher than those of the general population. Objective: This study sought to characterize the clinical characteristics and outcomes following COVID-19 infection in this population in a single center in Brazil. Methods: Out of 497 dialysis patients evaluated between March 1st, 2020 and February 1st, 2021, those presenting symptoms or history of close contact with COVID-19 patients were tested. Disease severity was categorized as mild, moderate, or severe. Results: Out of the 497 patients, 8.8% tested positive for COVID-19. These patients were predominantly male (59%), mean age 57.5 ± 17. Hospitalization was required for 45.4% of patients and 15.9% received mechanical ventilation. Symptoms such as fever, cough, dyspnea and asthenia were more frequent in the severe group. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, C- reactive protein, glutamic oxalacetic transaminase and lactic dehydrogenase were significantly higher in the severe group, while hemoglobin and lymphocyte counts were significantly lower. Chest CT >50% of ground glass lesions was the risk factor associated with severe disease and need for hospitalization. The incidence of a thromboembolic event was of 22.7% in this population. The incidence, mortality, and case fatality rates were 954.4/10,000 patients, 151.8/10,000 patients, and 15.9%, respectively. Conclusions: The incidence, mortality and case fatality rates in our cohort were significantly higher than those reported for the general population. To institute appropriate control measures and early vaccination in dialysis facilities is imperative to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.

RESUMO Introdução: Durante a atividade física o corpo faz remanejamento sanguíneo para áreas essenciais como a musculatura esquelética, reduzindo o suprimento em áreas não essenciais como o rim. O whey protein (proteína do soro do leite) é um dos suplementos mais usados nas academias. Objetivos: Avaliar a função e a estrutura renal em ratos submetidos ao exercício físico sem e com o uso da suplementação de proteína. Métodos: A proteína usada foi Whey Hydro PRO 2 – Probiótica®, sendo administrada por via oral (gavagem), diluída em água mineral (1,8 g/kg de peso corporal logo após o treino de natação). Os ratos foram divididos em quatro grupos: ratos com exercício (Exc), ratos sem exercício (ñExc), ratos com exercício e com suplementação alimentar de proteína (Prot/Exc) e ratos sem exercício e com suplementação alimentar de proteína (Prot/ñExc). O treinamento consistia em natação por 30 minutos, com utilização de carga, equivalente a 2% do peso corporal, 5 vezes por semana em um total de 10 semanas. A proteína foi administrada por gavagem, uma vez ao dia e logo depois do treino. Resultados: Observou-se queda da filtração glomerular renal nos animais do grupo Exc vs. Prot/Exc. Os valores de creatinina plasmática foram semelhantes entre os grupos que praticaram o exercício vs. os que não praticaram. Para o sódio plasmático e a fração de excreção de sódio, os valores foram menores no grupo Prot/Exc quando comparados com o grupo Exc. A excreção urinária de ureia foi semelhante entre os grupos. Análise histológica: Observou-se degeneração hidrópica significativa nos animais que receberam a suplementação de proteína e realizaram o exercício. Conclusão: Esses resultados mostram que o exercício em conjunto com a suplementação de proteína (2 g/dia/Kg), determina alterações nos mecanismos tubulares de ajustes do sódio e alterações estruturais no parênquima renal. Nível de evidência II; Estudos terapêuticos – Investigação dos resultados do tratamento.

ABSTRACT Introduction: During physical activity, the body diverts blood to essential areas such as skeletal muscle, reducing the supply to non-essential areas such as the kidney. Whey protein is one of the most widely used supplements in gyms. Objectives: To evaluate renal function and renal structure in rats submitted to physical exercise with and without the use of protein supplementation. Methods: The protein used was Whey Hydro PRO 2 - Probiotica®. It was administered orally (by gavage), diluted in mineral water (1.8 g/kg of body weight, shortly after swimming training). The rats were divided into four groups: rats with exercise (Exc), rats without exercise (ñExc), rats with exercise and with protein supplementation (Prot/Exc) and rats without exercise and with protein supplementation (Prot/ñExc). The training consisted of swimming for 30 minutes, using load equivalent to 2% of body weight, five times a week for a total of 10 weeks. The protein was administered by gavage, once daily, immediately after the training. Results: A reduced glomerular filtration rate was observed in the animals of the Exc group compared to those of the Prot/Exc group. Plasma creatinine values were similar between the groups submitted to exercise and those not submitted to exercise. Plasma sodium and the sodium excretion fraction were lower in the Prot/Exc group compared to the Exc group. Urinary excretion was similar between groups. Histological analysis: Significant hydropic degeneration was observed in the animals that received protein supplementation and submitted to exercise. Conclusion: These results show that exercise associated with protein supplementation (2g/day/kg) leads to changes in the tubular mechanisms of sodium adjustments and structural changes in the renal parenchyma. RESUMEN Introducción: Durante la actividad física el cuerpo hace reubicación sanguínea hacia áreas esenciales como la musculatura esquelética, reduciendo el suministro en áreas no esenciales como el riñón. La whey protein (proteína del suero de la leche) es uno de los suplementos más usados en los gimnasios. Objetivos: Evaluar la función y la estructura renal en ratones sometidos al ejercicio físico sin y con el uso de la suplementación de proteína. Métodos: La proteína utilizada fue Whey Hydro PRO 2 - Probiótica® siendo administrada vía oral (gavaje), diluida en agua mineral (1,8 g/kg de peso corporal luego después del entrenamiento de natación). Los ratones fueron divididos en cuatro grupos: ratones con ejercicio (Exc), ratones sin ejercicio (ñExc), ratones con ejercicio y con suplementación alimentaria de proteína (Prot/Exc) y ratones sin ejercicio y con suplementación alimenticia de proteína (Prot/ñExc). El entrenamiento consistía en natación por 30 minutos, con uso de carga, equivalente al 2% del peso corporal, 5 veces por semana en un total de 10 semanas. La proteína fue administrada por gavaje, una vez al día y luego después del entrenamiento. Resultados: Se observó caída de la filtración glomerular renal en los animales del grupo Exc vs Prot/Exc. Análisis histológico: Se observó degeneración hidrópica significativa en los animales que recibieron la suplementación de proteínas y no realizaron el ejercicio. Conclusión: Estos resultados muestran que el ejercicio en conjunto con la suplementación de proteína (2 g/día/Kg), determina alteraciones en los mecanismos tubulares de ajustes del sodio y alteraciones estructurales en el parénquima renal. Nivel de evidencia II; Estudios terapéuticos – Investigación de los resultados del tratamiento.

RESUMO Introdução: A pandemia causada pelo novo coronavírus da síndrome respiratória aguda grave 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) apresenta novos e importantes desafios à gestão de saúde no Brasil. Além da difícil missão de prestar atendimento aos milhares de pacientes infectados pelo COVID-19, os sistemas de saúde têm que manter a assistência às emergências médicas comuns em períodos sem pandemia, tais como o acidente vascular cerebral (AVC), que continuam ocorrendo e requerem tratamento com presteza e eficiência. A alocação de recursos materiais e humanos para o enfrentamento à pandemia não pode comprometer o atendimento ao AVC agudo, uma emergência cujo tratamento é tempo-dependente e se não realizado implica em importante impacto na mortalidade e incapacitação a longo prazo. Objetivo: Este trabalho resume as recomendações do Departamento Científico de Doenças Cerebrovasculares da Academia Brasileira de Neurologia, da Sociedade Brasileira de Doenças Cerebrovasculares e da Sociedade Brasileira de Neurorradiologia para o tratamento do AVC agudo e para a realização de procedimentos de neurointervenção urgentes durante a pandemia de COVID-19, incluindo o uso adequado de ferramentas de triagem e equipamentos de proteção pessoal (para pacientes e profissionais de saúde), além da alocação apropriada de pacientes.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Although the 2019 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) pandemic poses new challenges to the healthcare system to provide support for thousands of patients, there is special concern about common medical emergencies, such as stroke, that will continue to occur and will require adequate treatment. The allocation of both material and human resources to fight the pandemic cannot overshadow the care for acute stroke, a time-sensitive emergency that with an inefficient treatment will further increase mortality and long-term disability. Objective: This paper summarizes the recommendations from the Scientific Department on Cerebrovascular Diseases of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology, the Brazilian Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases and the Brazilian Society of Neuroradiology for management of acute stroke and urgent neuro-interventional procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic, including proper use of screening tools, personal protective equipment (for patients and health professionals), and patient allocation.

Objetivo Estudo retrospectivo que analisou os resultados da escleroterapia, com doses baixas de etanol, realizada sob anestesia local para tratamento de malformações venosas na cabeça e pescoço.Métodos Foram tratados 51 pacientes, sendo 37 do gênero feminino. A mediana de idade foi de 23 anos. Os pacientes foram tratados com injeções alcoólicas nas lesões, por via percutânea, em sessões quinzenais, e acompanhados prospectivamente por um período mediano de 18 meses. A maioria das lesões acometia a face e a queixa principal mais frequente foi deformidade estética.Resultados Foram realizadas, em média, sete sessões de escleroterapia. Resolução completa ou melhora foi observada em 48 pacientes. Cinco pacientes apresentaram pequena úlcera cutânea, dois hiperpigmentação e dois parestesia, sendo todos tratados conservadoramente.Conclusão A escleroterapia percutânea com doses baixas de etanol é um método seguro e eficaz para tratar malformações venosas na cabeça e pescoço.

Objective This retrospective study evaluated the results of sclerotherapy with low doses of ethanol for treatment of head and neck venous malformations.Methods We treated 51 patients, 37 females. Median age was 23 years. Patients were treated with percutaneous intralesional injection of alcohol every two weeks and followed up prospectively for a median period of 18 months. Most lesions affected the face and cosmetic disfigurement was the most frequent complaint.Results We performed a median of 7 sessions of sclerotherapy. Complete resolution or improvement was observed in 48 patients presented. Five cases of small skin ulceration, two cases of hyperpigmentation and two of paresthesia were documented; all of them were treated conservatively.Conclusion Percutaneous sclerotherapy with low doses of ethanol is a safe and effective treatment modality for venous malformations affecting the head and neck.

Procura-se discutir, à luz das contribuições da psicanálise, como algumas formas de escrita no corpo, tão frequentes na contemporaneidade - tatuagens, cortes, escarificações -, poderiam produzir maneiras possíveis e singulares de enlaçamento do sujeito ao Outro. A escrita deixa pistas, vestígios do percurso da pulsão, rastos do pensamento e possibilita alguma ligação com o mundo compartilhado, dando margem a pensar numa contenção do gozo através destes tipos específicos que compõem um repertório de traços. Em muitos casos, esses atos de escrita suprem a função paterna permitindo que aqueles em que a voz do Outro não escreveu uma identificação unária na carne tenham acesso ao corpo próprio.

Writing the body: jouissance and social bond. The objective of this paper, based on Psychoanalysis contributions, is to discuss the contemporary body writing, such as cuts, scarifications and tattoos, to discuss how they can help to make possible and singular the social bonds between subjects and the Other. Writing leaves tracks, vestiges of the drive paths, remnants of thinking and enables some connection to the common world, giving way to restraining jouissance by means of a repertoire of traces. In many cases, these acts of writing supply the paternal function allowing those who did not undergo the unary inscription of the voice of the Other in their own flesh, so they can have access to their own body.

Abstract: Aircraft crews are subjected to radiation doses of cosmic origin in the regular exercise of their functions. The present paper gives an estimate of typical doses received by crews of the Flight Test Special Group of DCTA (GEEV) from July 2007 to November 2009. The dose estimates were performed using the CARI-6 and PCAIRE codes and were compared with each other and with values obtained by other authors in other regions of the globe, being analyzed from the standpoint of estimating radiobiological risk.

INTRODUCTION: Venous malformations are the most frequent vascular malformation. Deep venous malformations are located in subcutaneous tissue or in the muscles. Percutaneous sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice, and the use of ethanol at low doses has not yet been described. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the results of treating Deep venous malformations patients with low doses of ethanol. METHODS: Thirty-nine patients treated between July 1995 and June 2007 were followed up prospectively over a median period of 18 months. Twenty-nine were female (74.4%) and 10 were male (25.6%), with ages ranging from 11 to 59 years (median of 24 years). All of the lesions affected limbs, and the main symptom reported was pain (97.4%). Each patient underwent fortnightly alcohol application sessions under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The lesions were classified into three groups according to size using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging: small, up to 3 cm (4 patients); medium, between 3 and 15 cm (27 patients); and large, greater than 15 cm (8 patients). RESULTS: The symptoms completely disappeared in 14 patients (35.9%) and improved in 24 (61.5%). The lesion size reduced to zero in 6 patients (15.4%) and decreased in 32 (82%). The median number of sessions was 7. There were no complications in 32 patients (82%), while 3 presented local paresthesia (7.7%), 2 superficial trombophlebites (5.1%), 1 skin ulcer (2.6%), and 1 case of hyperpigmentation (2.6%). CONCLUSION: Outpatient treatment for Deep venous malformations patients using ethanol at low doses was effective, with a low complication rate.

A vertigem posicional paroxística benigna (VPPB) é considerada a mais comum das vestibulopatias. OBJETIVO: Avaliar pacientes com VPPB quanto à idade, gênero, tipo e localização da lesão, associação com outras vestibulopatias, dados evolutivos e recorrência. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Estudo de séries retrospectivo. Foram analisados os prontuários de 1271 pacientes consecutivos examinados nos últimos seis anos com VPPB. RESULTADOS: A VPPB apresentou prevalência de faixa etária entre 41 e 60 anos (42,2%), gênero feminino (62,8%), presença de nistagmo e vertigem de posicionamento (81,3%), comprometimento do canal posterior (87,0%; p<0,001), unilateral (91,8%), do labirinto direito (60,2%; p<0,001), por ductolitíase (97,5%), forma idiopática (74,8%), associação com a doença de Ménière em relação a outras afecções (55,4%; p<0,001), cura ou melhora por meio de manobra de reposicionamento de partículas (77,9%); e pela possibilidade de recorrência (21,8%, em um ano de acompanhamento). CONCLUSÃO: A VPPB é caracterizada pela prevalência de faixa etária entre 41 e 60 anos, gênero feminino, presença de nistagmo e vertigem de posicionamento, comprometimento do canal posterior unilateral do labirinto direito por ductolitíase, forma idiopática, associação com a doença de Ménière em relação a outras afecções, cura ou melhora por meio de manobra de reposicionamento de partículas; e pela possibilidade de recorrência.

Benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo (BPPV) is considered as the most common vestibular disease. AIM: to evaluate the age, gender, type and site of the lesion, association with other vestibular diseases, progression, and recurrence in these patients. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective series study. Data from medical reports of BPPV patients examined in series during the past six years were analyzed. RESULTS: prevalences of BPPV were: at age 41-60 years (42.2 %); in females (62.8 %), wit nystagmus and positioning vertigo (81.3%); affecting the posterior canal (87%), unilateral (91.8 %), the right labyrinth (60.2%) - p<0.001). Due to canalithiasis (97.5%), idiopathic (74.8%), association with Menière's disease compared to other affections (55.4%); healing or recovery by means of the particle repositioning maneuver (77.9%); and possible recurrence (21.8% in a one-year follow-up period). CONCLUSION: BPPV is characterized by its prevalence at age 41 to 60 years, in females, with nystagmus and positioning vertigo, involving mostly the posterior canal of the right labyrinth, associated with canalithiasis or idiopathic, associated with Menière's disease compared to other affections, healing or recovery by means of particle repositioning maneuver, and possible recurrence.

OBJETIVO: A nefropatia por contraste é a terceira causa de insuficiência renal aguda em pacientes hospitalizados. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a ação da n-acetilcisteína e do alopurinol na proteção renal em ratos de ambos os sexos que receberam diatrizoato. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Ratos Wistar adultos jovens, uninefrectomizados e submetidos a restrição hídrica, receberam solução salina (grupo 1: machos; grupo 2: fêmeas), diatrizoato (grupo 3: machos; grupo 4: fêmeas), diatrizoato e n-acetilcisteína (grupo 5: machos), diatrizoato e alopurinol (grupo 6: machos) e diatrizoato e n-acetilcisteína + alopurinol (grupo 7: machos). A filtração glomerular foi avaliada pela creatinina. O teste t de Student e o teste do sinal foram utilizados para análises estatísticas. RESULTADOS: Ratos que receberam diatrizoato apresentaram elevação estatisticamente significante da creatinina sérica, quando comparados aos controles, porém não houve diferença entre os sexos. Os animais que receberam alopurinol não mostraram aumento significante da creatinina, enquanto a administração de n-acetilcisteína não impediu a elevação da creatinina. CONCLUSÃO: O alopurinol mostrou-se mais efetivo que a n-acetilcisteína na proteção funcional renal ao dano induzido pelo diatrizoato de sódio. Não houve diferença entre os sexos na intensidade do dano renal pelo diatrizoato de sódio.

OBJECTIVE: Contrast medium-induced nephropathy is the third most frequent cause of iatrogenic acute renal failure involving inpatients. The present study was aimed at evaluating the protective effect of n-acetylcysteine and allopurinol in both male and female rats receiving diatrizoate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-five young adult Wistar rats submitted to hydric restriction were divided into groups as follows: groups 1 and 2 (respectively male and female rats) receiving saline solution; groups 3 and 4 (respectively male and female rats) receiving diatrizoate; group 5 (male rats) receiving diatrizoate and n-acetylcysteine; group 6 (male rats) receiving diatrizoate and allopurinol; and group 7 (male rats) receiving diatrizoate and n-acetylcysteine + allopurinol. The glomerular filtration was evaluated by measurement of creatinine clearance. Student's t-test and the test of signal were utilized for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Animal models receiving allopurinol did not present a significant increase in the creatinine levels, while n-acetylcysteine did not prevent the creatinine levels increase. CONCLUSION: Allopurinol has shown to be more effective than n-acetylcysteine in the renal function protection against sodium diatrizoate-induced damages. No difference has been found between male and female groups as regards the intensity of sodium diatrizoate-induced renal damages.

OBJETIVOS: Implantação de técnicas de isolamento e cultivo de células-tronco mesenquimais do sangue de cordão umbilical humano, com e sem uso de gradiente de densidade Ficoll-Paque (d=1,077g/ml). MÉTODOS: Dez amostras de sangue de cordão umbilical humano de gestação a termo foram submetidas a dois procedimentos de cultivo de células-tronco mesenquimais: sem gradiente de densidade Ficoll-Paque e com gradiente de densidade. As células foram semeadas em frascos de 25cm² a uma densidade de 1x10(7)células nucleadas/cm² (sem Ficoll) e 1,0x10(6) células mononucleares/cm² (com Ficoll). As células aderentes foram submetidas a marcação citoquímica com fosfatase ácida e reativo de Schiff. RESULTADOS: No procedimento sem gradiente de densidade Ficoll, foram obtidas 2,0-13,0x10(7) células nucleadas (mediana=2,35x10(7)) e, no procedimento com gradiente de densidade Ficoll, foram obtidas 3,7-15,7x10(6) células mononucleares (mediana=7,2x10(6)). Em todas as culturas foram observadas células aderentes 24 horas após o início de cultivo. As células apresentaram morfologias fibroblastóides ou epitelióides. Na maioria das culturas houve proliferação celular nas primeiras semanas de cultivo, mas após a segunda semana, somente três culturas provenientes do método sem gradiente de densidade Ficoll-Paque mantiveram crescimento celular, formando focos confluentes de células. Essas culturas foram submetidas a várias etapas de tripsinização para espalhamento ou subdivisão e permaneceram em cultivo por períodos que variaram de dois a três meses. CONCLUSÃO: Nas amostras estudadas, o isolamento e cultivo de células-tronco mesenquimais do sangue de cordão umbilical humano pelo método sem gradiente de densidade Ficoll-Paque foi mais eficiente do que o método com gradiente de densidade Ficoll-Paque.

OBJECTIVES: Implantation of cell separation and mesenchymal stem cell culture techniques from human umbilical cord blood with and without using the Ficoll-Paque gradient density method (d=1.077g/ml). METHODS: Ten samples of the umbilical cord blood obtained from full-term deliveries were submitted to two different procedures of mesenchymal stem cell culture: a) Method without the Ficoll-Paque density gradient, which concentrates all nucleated cells; b) Method with the Ficoll-Paque density gradient, which selects only low-density mononuclear cells. Cells were initially plated into 25 cm² cultures flasks at a density of 1x10(7) nucleated cells/cm² and 1x10(6) mononuclear cells/cm². RESULTS: It was obtained 2-13x10(7) (median = 2.35x10(7)) nucleated cells/cm² by the method without the Ficoll-Paque gradient density, and 3.7-15.7x10(6) (median = 7.2x10(6)) mononuclear cells/cm² by the method with the Ficoll-Paque gradient density. In all cultures adherent cells were observed 24 hours after being cultured. Cells presented fibroblastoid and epithelioid morphology. In most of the cultures, cell proliferation occurred in the first week, but after the second week only some cultures - derived from the method without the Ficoll-Paque gradient density - maintained the growth rate reaching confluence. Those cultures were submitted to trypsinization with 0.25% trypsin/EDTA solution and cultured for two to three months. CONCLUSION: In the samples analyzed, cell separation and mesenchymal stem cell culture techniques from human umbilical cord blood by the method without the Ficoll-Paque density gradient was more efficient than the method with the Ficoll-Paque density gradient.

Para abordar a relação da angústia com a criação, a autora procura na criação literária uma inspiração. A partir do romance Angústia de Graciliano Ramos, o texto mostra alguns aspectos de como nessa narrativa se pode pensar a criação de um objeto de arte - no caso, o romance Angústia - através da própria experiência de angústia, uma vez que nela temos a presença do objeto como causa. A presença do referencial psicanalítico se desdobra em dois planos: o da psicanálise aplicada à literatura e o da literatura aplicada à psicanálise. No primeiro, é considerado o enredo, em que o protagonista vive angústia e a partir dela passa ao ato; no segundo, analisa-se o plano da criação do romance, do qual se deduz a angústia como causa do ato de criação.

This paper addresses the relationship between anguish and creativity based on the novel Anguish by Graciliano Ramos. The author shows some aspects of this narrative that can be used to investigate act and creation through the experience of anguish. The use of the psychoanalytical reference is unfolded in two plans: psychoanalysis applied to literature and literature applied to psychoanalysis. In the former, the focus is on the plot, in which the protagonist lives anguish and because of it he is impelled to perform an act; in the latter, the plan of creation of the novel is analyzed and anguish can be inferred as the cause of the creation act.
