RESUMO A capacidade de sistemas de irrigação é tipicamente definida assumindo probabilidades de não-excedência de valores de evapotranspiração. O uso de valores médios mensais de ET0 pode conduzir a subdimensionamento da capacidade, enquanto valores máximos diários podem resultar em superdimensionamento. Este estudo teve os seguintes objetivos: (1) analisar uma série de 30 anos contendo dados diários de ET0 em Piracicaba, SP, Brasil, avaliando a aptidão da distribuição de Gumbel para a estimativa de valores máximos de ET0 organizados em períodos de até 30 dias; (2) determinar valores máximos prováveis e selecionar valores de ET0 considerando o intervalo entre irrigações e o risco de falha em termos de capacidade do sistema de irrigação. Dados diários, de 1990 a 2019, foram utilizados para calcular a ET0 pelo modelo de Penman-Monteith. A distribuição de Gumbel se ajustou aos dados e foi adequada para caracterizar a distribuição de frequência de valores máximos de ET0. A ET0 provável para o projeto de sistemas de irrigação foi estimada com base na vida útil do sistema, intervalo entre irrigações e período de retorno de valores máximos de ET0. Quanto maior for a vida útil do sistema de irrigação, maior deve ser o período de retorno adotado para reduzir o risco de falha. O uso da média dos valores máximos de ET0 conduz a subdimensionamento e alto risco de falha em termos de capacidade do sistema de irrigação.

ABSTRACT Irrigation system capacity is typically defined by analyzing probabilities of non-exceedance of evapotranspiration. The use of mean monthly values of ET0 may lead to underestimation of the required capacity, whereas use of maximum daily values may result in overestimation of required capacity. This study had the following objectives: (1) to analyze a 30-year series of daily ET0 data from Piracicaba, SP, Brazil, to evaluate the suitability of the Gumbel distribution for estimating the maximum values of ET0 organized in periods of up to 30 days; (2) to determine probable maximum values and to select ET0 values considering the irrigation interval and the risk of failure in terms of irrigation system capacity. Daily data from 1990 to 2019 were used to calculate ET0 using the Penman-Monteith model. The Gumbel distribution fitted to the data and was suitable for characterizing the frequency distribution of the maximum ET0. The probable ET0 for designing irrigation systems can then be estimated based on the expected lifespan, irrigation interval, and return period of ET0 maximum values. The higher the anticipated irrigation system lifespan, the higher the return period needed to attain a low risk of failure. Using the average of maximum ET0 values alone leads to underestimation of system capacity and a high risk of failure in terms of irrigation system capacity.

ABSTRACT Distributions of aquatic macrophyte species are commonly associated with water chemistry characteristics. However, other environmental factors that can lead to the occurrence of aquatic plants in lotic ecosystems, such as dynamic habitats linked to the surrounding landscape, have been underestimated. This study aims to evaluate landscape features that may influence the occurrence of species of euhydrophyte aquatic macrophytes in a tropical river basin. We assessed the occurrence of the following seven species: Egeria densa, Cabomba furcata, Potamogeton pusillus, Potamogeton polygonus, Utricularia foliosa, Pistia stratiotes and Salvinia molesta. We also measured environmental variables related to three spatial scales, local (limnological), channel and riparian landscape, along 25.5 Km of the Itanhaém River basin (São Paulo, Brazil). We found that local (limnological) and channel characteristics were important variables in determining the occurrence of aquatic macrophyte species while the landscape scale had little influence on species composition. Channel depth and margin slope were especially relevant abiotic variables in explaining the occurrence of four of the species but not P. pusillus, P. polygonus and U. foliosa. Our results highlight the importance of channel morphology for understanding aquatic plant occurrence and community composition in tropical rivers.

RESUMO Objetivou-se neste estudo quantificar o efeito de variações da temperatura da água na vazão de fitas gotejadoras colapsáveis, de parede fina, com emissores integrados não regulados. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em laboratório utilizando estrutura de ensaios automatizada. Foram realizados ensaios para determinação das curvas vazão-pressão sob temperaturas de ensaio na faixa de 20 a 50 ºC, para nove modelos de emissores com três espessuras de parede (6, 8 e 9 MIL). Curvas vazão-pressão apresentaram distintos parâmetros K e x para cada temperatura. Para os emissores planos de fluxo turbulento (x < 0,5), a vazão diminuiu com o incremento da temperatura. Para os emissores contínuos de fluxo turbulento, respostas diferentes foram obtidas, sendo que no emissor D (x > 0,5) a vazão aumentou com o incremento da temperatura, enquanto no emissor C (x < 0,5), a vazão diminuiu e as maiores variações de vazão ocorreram a partir de 60 kPa. Para o emissor moldado, a vazão aumentou em função da temperatura, porém, a maior variação ocorreu nas menores pressões. Para nenhum dos emissores houve diferença significativa na variação de vazão entre as espessuras de parede.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to quantify the effect of water temperature variations on the discharge of collapsible thin-walled drip tapes with integrated non-pressure-compensating emitters. The tests were conducted in the laboratory using an automated test bench. Tests were performed to determine the discharge-pressure curves by varying the water temperature from 20 to 50 °C. Nine emitter models of three wall thicknesses (6, 8, and 9 MIL) were evaluated. The coefficients K and x of the discharge-pressure curves varied according to the water temperature. In flat emitters of turbulent flow (x < 0.5), the discharge decreased as the temperature increased. In the welded emitters of turbulent flow, several responses were observed. Regarding emitter D (x > 0.5), the discharge increased as the temperature was increased, while for emitter C (x < 0.5), the discharge decreased; the highest discharge variations occurred at pressures higher than 60 kPa. For embossed emitters, the discharge increased as a function of temperature, however, the greatest variation occurred at the lowest pressures. None of the emitters showed significant difference in the discharge variation due to wall thicknesses.

RESUMO Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar três metodologias para a estimativa da vazão de água em placas de orifício, quantificando erros nas determinações de vazão a fim de sugerir a faixa de medição apropriada para cada condição avaliada. Foram avaliados dois modelos de placa de orifício (diâmetros nominais 100 e 150 mm) com restrição de 50% em relação ao diâmetro nominal. Nas equações teóricas, o coeficiente de descarga foi obtido pela equação de Reader-Harris/Gallagher (Método 1) e aproximado a partir de dados experimentais pelo coeficiente angular de uma reta com intercepto igual a zero (Método 2). A faixa de medição recomendada para manter os erros inferiores a 5% para a placa de 100 e 150 mm foi de 30 a 65 m3 h-1 e de 70 a 130 m3 h-1 utilizando a equação teórica e de 20 a 65 m3 h-1 e de 40 a 130 m3 h-1 utilizando a equação empírica, respectivamente. A equação de Reader-Harris/Gallagher (Método 1) estimou adequadamente o coeficiente de descarga dos modelos de placas de orifício, entretanto o uso de equações empíricas (Método 3) proporcionou menores erros de medição e maior rangeabilidade dos medidores de vazão avaliados.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate three methodologies for orifice-plate water-flow estimation by quantifying errors in the flow determinations to propose an appropriate measurement range for each evaluated condition. Two orifice-plate models (nominal diameters of 100 and 150 mm) with 50% restriction in the flow section were evaluated. In the theoretical equations, the discharge coefficient was obtained using the Reader-Harris/Gallagher equation (Method 1) and approximated from experimental data using the angular coefficient of a zero-intercept straight line (Method 2). The recommended measurement ranges for errors that were lower than 5% for the 100 and 150 mm plates were 30 to 65 m3 h-1 and 70 to 130 m3 h-1 using the theoretical equation and 20 to 65 m3 h-1 and 40 to 130 m3 h-1 using the empirical equation, respectively. The Reader-Harris/Gallagher equation (Method 1) adequately estimated the discharge coefficient of the orifice plates; however, the use of empirical equations (Method 3) demonstrated smaller measurement errors and greater rangeability of the evaluated flow meters.

RESUMO Injetores Venturi são comumente empregados para fins de fertirrigação na agricultura, extraindo fertilizante de um tanque para a linha de irrigação. O conhecimento da quantidade de líquido a ser injetado por este dispositivo é útil para assegurar operação e manejo adequados da fertirrigação. Os objetivos desta pesquisa foram: (1) conduzir testes funcionais de injetores Venturi seguindo as normas estabelecidas pela ISO 15873; e (2) modelar a vazão de injeção utilizando Análise Dimensional pelo teorema de Buckingham Pi. Quatro modelos de injetores Venturi foram submetidos a testes operacionais usando água limpa como fluido motriz e como fluido succionado. Um modelo geral para predição da vazão de injeção foi proposto e validado, sendo este dependente das propriedades do fluido, das condições hidráulicas operacionais e das características geométricas do injetor. Outro modelo para estimar a vazão motriz, em função da pressão de entrada e da pressão diferencial foi ajustado e validado para cada tamanho de Venturi. Finalmente, um exemplo de aplicação foi apresentado. O tamanho do injetor Venturi foi selecionado para atender aos requisitos da aplicação e as condições de operação foram estimadas utilizando os modelos propostos.

ABSTRACT Venturi injectors are commonly employed for fertigation purposes in agriculture, in which they draw fertilizer from a tank into the irrigation pipeline. The knowledge of the amount of liquid injected by this device is used to ensure an adequate fertigation operation and management. The objectives of this research were (1) to carry out functional tests of Venturi injectors following requirements stated by ISO 15873; and (2) to model the injection rate using dimensional analysis by the Buckingham Pi theorem. Four models of Venturi injectors were submitted to functional tests using clean water as motive and injected fluid. A general model for predicting injection flow rate was proposed and validated. In this model, the injection flow rate depends on the fluid properties, operating hydraulic conditions and geometrical characteristics of the Venturi injector. Another model for estimating motive flow rate as a function of inlet pressure and differential pressure was adjusted and validated for each size of Venturi injector. Finally, an example of an application was presented. The Venturi injector size was selected to fulfill the requirements of the application and the operating conditions were estimated using the proposed models.

RESUMO Informações sobre perda de carga localizada em conexões utilizadas em sistemas de microirrigação são difíceis de serem encontradas na literatura. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar experimentalmente as perdas de carga localizada em conexões comumente empregadas nesses sistemas e propor modelos matemáticos utilizando o teorema de Buckingham. A metodologia dos ensaios foi baseada em recomendações de normas técnicas internacionais. Os ensaios foram realizados sob pressão de entrada controlada em 150 kPa, com cinco a dez unidades testadas para cada modelo de conexão. As curvas relacionando vazão e perda de carga localizada foram plotadas com base em 15 condições de vazão, obtidas sob incremento e decréscimo de vazão. Para cada condição, foram coletados 30 pontos, resultando num conjunto de 900 registros de dados a cada ensaio. Em cada modelo de conexão avaliado, foram obtidas as seguintes informações: curvas de perda de carga localizada em função da vazão e do coeficiente de perda de carga localizada (KL). Os valores de KL variaram de 2,72 a 24,16, o qual tornar-se constante para um número de Reynolds acima de 10000. Verificou-se também a sensibilidade do coeficiente KL relacionado com a proporção das seções internas nas conexões. Os expoentes de vazão apresentaram valores próximos ao que é aplicado pela equação de Darcy-Weisbach (m = 2). Os modelos matemáticos desenvolvidos para as conexões apresentaram desempenho satisfatório.

ABSTRACT Information about local head loss caused by connections employed in micro-irrigation systems is hard to be found in literature. The objective of this research was to experimentally determine the local head losses in connections commonly used in micro-irrigation and propose mathematical models using the theorem of Buckingham. The methodology of tests was based on international standards. The tests were carried out under controlled inlet pressure, at 150 kPa, and five to ten units of each connection model were tested. The curves relating flow and head losses were drawn based on 15 flow conditions, obtained under increase and decrease of flow rate. For each condition, 30 points were collected resulting in a sample size of 900 points in each test. For each connection model evaluated, the following information was obtained: curves of local head loss as a function of flow rate and of local head loss coefficient (KL). The obtained values of KL ranged from 2.72 to 24.16, which become constant for Reynolds number higher than 10,000. The sensitivity of the coefficient related to a ratio of the internal sections in the connections was also verified. The flow exponents presented values close to the one applied by the Darcy-Weisbach equation (m = 2). The models developed for the connections presented a satisfactory performance.

RESUMO Para reduzir custos fixos e operacionais em sistemas de irrigação pressurizados são produzidos tubos de polietileno com pequena espessura de parede, com orifícios de descarga perfurados a laser, que operam a baixas pressões (até 100 kPa). A caracterização hidráulica desses materiais é essencial para o dimensionamento dos sistemas de irrigação. Dada a elasticidade do material de fabricação e a fina espessura de parede (aproximadamente 200 μm) dos tubos, o diâmetro interno pode ser alterado em função da pressão de operação, provocando variações na perda de carga. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a perda de carga em tubos de polietileno flexíveis perfurados a laser e expressar o comprimento máximo dessas tubulações em função de critérios de uniformidade de distribuição de água. Utilizaram-se amostras de tubos não perfurados para determinar as equações de perda de carga. Ajustaram-se equações em função da vazão e da carga de pressão na entrada do tubo e, alternativamente, ajustou-se a equação de Darcy-Weisbach, com o diâmetro expresso em função da carga de pressão por um modelo potencial. A equação de perda de carga em função da vazão e da carga de pressão fornece estimativas adequadas e inclui efeitos de variação do diâmetro dos tubos plásticos devido a variações na carga de pressão. A equação de Darcy-Weisbach pode ser utilizada para o cálculo da perda de carga em tubos flexíveis, cujo diâmetro varia com a pressão, desde que o diâmetro seja expresso por uma função da pressão de entrada da lateral.

ABSTRACT For reducing fixed and operational costs in pressurized irrigation systems, thin-walled polyethylene pipes with laser-perforated orifices are manufactured to operate under low pressure (up to 100 kPa). Hydraulic characterization of these materials is essential for designing irrigation systems. Considering the material elasticity and the thin wall thickness (about 200 μm), the internal diameter of these pipes may vary according to the operating pressure, resulting in changes of head losses. The purpose of this study was to analyze the head loss in flexible pipes with laser-perforated orifices, and to estimate the maximum length of laterals based on criteria of water distribution uniformity. Non-perforated pipe samples were tested to obtain equations of friction loss. Equations were fitted as a function of flow rate and pressure head at the pipe inlet, and, alternatively, the Darcy-Weisbach equation was modified considering the diameter expressed as a power-law function of pressure head. The equation of head loss as a function of flow rate and pressure head provided proper estimations and considered effects related to changes in the diameter of plastic pipes due to variations in the pressure head. The Darcy-Weisbach equation can be employed for estimating head loss in flexible pipes, whose diameter varies due to pressure, but the diameter must be calculated as a function of the pressure head at the lateral inlet.

Dripper testing: Application of statistical quality control for measurement system analysis

RESUMO Os ensaios laboratoriais para avaliação técnica ou estudo de material de irrigação envolvem a medição de diversas grandezas, bem como o monitoramento e controle das condições de ensaio. A presente pesquisa, realizada em 2016, teve por objetivo utilizar técnicas de controle estatístico de qualidade para avaliar resultados de ensaios de tubos gotejadores. Foram elaborados gráficos de controle para média móvel exponencialmente ponderada, além de índices de capacidade para o processo de medição da pressão de ensaio e temperatura da água; e estudo de repetitividade e reprodutibilidade (Gage RR) para vazão, no qual foram utilizadas 10 repetições, sob três turnos de trabalho (manhã, tarde e noite), com 25 emissores. Tanto a pressão quanto a temperatura se mantiveram estáveis, com desempenho “excelente” para o ajuste da pressão via controlador proporcional integrativo-derivativo. A variabilidade entre emissores foi a componente de maior contribuição na variância total das medições de vazão, sendo 96,77% devida à variabilidade entre peças. Classificou-se o sistema de medição como “aceitável” ou “aprovado” mediante o estudo Gage RR; e não foram identificadas causas não aleatórias de variabilidade relevantes na rotina de ensaios.

ABSTRACT Laboratory tests for technical evaluation or irrigation material testing involve the measurement of many variables, as well as monitoring and control of test conditions. This study, carried out in 2016, aimed at using statistical quality control techniques to evaluate results of dripper tests. Exponentially weighted moving average control charts were elaborated, besides capability indices for the measurement of the test pressure and water temperature; and study on repeatability and reproducibility (Gage RR) of flow measurement system using 10 replicates, in three work shifts (morning, afternoon and evening), with 25 emitters. Both the test pressure and water temperature remained stable, with “excellent” performance for the pressure adjustment process by integrative-derivative proportional controller. The variability between emitters was the component with highest contribution to the total variance of the flow measurements, with 96.77% of the total variance due to the variability between parts. The measurement system was classified as “acceptable” or “approved” by the Gage RR study; and non-random causes of significant variability were not identified in the routine of tests.

RESUMO O dimensionamento de linhas laterais constituídas por microtubos de comprimento variável, permite a obtenção de uniformidade de distribuição de água otimizada. Supõe-se que existe um intervalo de pressões de entrada na linha lateral no qual a uniformidade de distribuição de água é mantida dentro de limites aceitáveis. Deste modo, esses emissores podem ser aplicados em sistemas de irrigação em que há variação temporal de potência para o bombeamento. Assim, este trabalho propõe uma metodologia para dimensionar linhas laterais constituídas por microtubos sob pressão variável utilizando o método trecho a trecho a fim de se estabelecer o intervalo de pressões recomendadas para operação. A metodologia foi validada ensaiando-se a pressão máxima, ótima e mínima obtida, com três repetições. A diferença entre valores estimados e observados de vazão foi inferior a 6%, indicando que o equacionamento adotado apresentou acurácia satisfatória. A uniformidade de distribuição do sistema foi superior a 95% para todas as pressões ensaiadas; demonstrou-se, portanto, que é possível estabelecer um amplo intervalo de pressões de operação mantendo-se a uniformidade de distribuição dentro de limites aceitáveis.

ABSTRACT Design of lateral lines consisting of microtubes enables to optimize water distribution uniformity. In addition, there must exist a range of pressures at the lateral line inlet in which the water distribution uniformity remains acceptable. Thus, such emitters are interesting for use in micro-irrigation systems supplied by alternative power sources, in which temporal variability in the electrical power supplied to the pumping systems normally occurs. This study presents a methodology for designing lateral lines with microtubes operated under varying pressure, using the step-by-step method in order to establish the recommended range of lateral line inlet pressures. The proposed methodology was validated over three replicates by testing maximum, minimum and optimum pressures. Deviation between estimated and observed values of flow rate was lower than 6%, indicating a satisfactory accuracy. Distribution uniformity of the system was higher than 95% under all pressures within the estimated range of values. Lateral lines can operate within a wide range of operating pressures and even so satisfactory results of distribution uniformity are obtained.

Abstract Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic fungal disease occurring in Latin America that is associated with rural environments and agricultural activities. However, the incidence and prevalence of paracoccidiodomycosis is underestimated because of the lack of compulsory notification. If paracoccidiodomycosis is not diagnosed and treated early and adequately, the endemic fungal infection could result in serious sequelae. While the Paracoccidioides brasiliensis ( P. brasiliensis ) complex has been known to be the causal agent of paracoccidiodomycosis, a new species, Paracoccidioides lutzii ( P. lutzii ), has been reported in Rondônia, where the disease has reached epidemic levels, and in the Central West and Pará. Accurate diagnoses and availability of antigens that are reactive with the patients’ sera remain significant challenges. Therefore, the present guidelines aims to update the first Brazilian consensus on paracoccidioidomycosis by providing evidence-based recommendations for bedside patient management. This consensus summarizes etiological, ecoepidemiological, molecular epidemiological, and immunopathological data, with emphasis on clinical, microbiological, and serological diagnosis and management of clinical forms and sequelae, as well as in patients with comorbidities and immunosuppression. The consensus also includes discussion of outpatient treatments, severe disease forms, disease prevalence among special populations and resource-poor settings, a brief review of prevention and control measures, current challenges and recommendations.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver e avaliar um controlador de irrigação acionado mecanicamente pela tensão de água no solo. O controlador foi desenvolvido e construído utilizando-se conexões hidráulicas e outros componentes. Os principais componentes do controlador foram: tensiômetro, um diafragma de borracha que se move de acordo com a variação de tensão dentro do tensiômetro, uma haste que transfere o movimento do diafragma para uma válvula de controle de fluxo e uma mola de aço que regula a tensão de acionamento da irrigação. O desempenho e as forças requeridas pelos componentes para acionar o controlador de seis amostras foram avaliados em laboratório. A relação entre a mola de ajuste e a tensão de água no solo requerida para acionar a irrigação foi linear com gradiente variando de 1,10 para 1,41 kPa mm-1 e coeficiente de variação de 9,2% porém essas diferenças podem ser reduzidas pela calibração individual dos controladores. A calibração da tensão requerida para acionar a irrigação foi facilmente realizada pela compressão da mola de ajuste. O controlador proposto é funcional, simples de ser utilizado e pode ser facilmente ajustado e não requer energia elétrica para operar.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate an irrigation controller that was mechanically actuated by soil-water tension within laboratory conditions. The controller was designed and constructed using readily available hydraulic fittings and other componentry. The main components of the controller were a tensiometer; a rubber diaphragm that moves according to the variation in tension inside of the tensiometer; an activation rod that transfers the movement from diaphragm to the switch valve; and a steel spring that regulates the activation of soil water tension. Six irrigation controller samples were tested in the laboratory to evaluate the mechanical performance and component forces required to activate the controllers. The relationship between spring adjustment and soil water tension required to open the irrigation valve was linear with a gradient ranging from 1.10 to 1.41 kPa mm-1 and a coefficient of variation of 9.2%. However, differences observed in the activation of the soil water tension could also be reduced by individual controller calibration. The calibration of the soil water tension required to initiate irrigation was easily set by adjusting the spring. The proposed controller is functional, simple to use, can be easily adjusted, and does not require electricity to operate.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar, em campo, o desempenho de um controlador de irrigação acionado mecanicamente pela tensão de água no solo. O controlador utiliza um tensiômetro como sensor da tensão de água do solo para controlar diretamente uma válvula hidráulica acionada mecanicamente. Seis controladores foram instalados em um pomar para controlar a irrigação de seis linhas de plantas durante 64 dias. Cada equipamento controlou a irrigação de uma linha lateral. O sistema de gotejamento foi pressurizado por gravidade devido a uma fonte de água localizada sete metros acima da superfície do solo. Todos os controladores testados no campo acionaram e desligaram a irrigação autonomamente durante o período de avaliação. Os eventos de irrigação foram iniciados quando as tensões de água no solo atingiram valores estabelecidos e terminaram em baixos valores de tensão. O desempenho foi considerado satisfatório, pois as tensões de água no solo foram mantidas dentro das faixas estabelecidas considerando-se uma tolerância de 20% para pelo menos 90% do tempo. O controlador proposto mostrou-se funcional e operou adequadamente para uma faixa de tensões de água no solo até 30 kPa, comumente utilizadas em condições de irrigação com alta frequência.

ABSTRACT In this study, a field evaluation of the performance of an irrigation controller mechanically actuated by soil-water tension (SWT) was performed. The controller employs a tensiometer used as a sensor of SWT to directly control a mechanically actuated hydraulic valve. Six controllers were installed in an orchard to control the irrigation for six rows of plants over 64 days. Each controller controlled the irrigation of one lateral drip line. The drip irrigation system was gravity-fed from a water source placed 7 m above the soil surface. The SWT and the pressure in each lateral line were measured to evaluate the performance of the controllers. All the controllers tested in the field autonomously initiated and terminated the irrigation during the evaluation. Irrigation events were initiated when values close to the set soil-tension values were reached and were terminated at lower soil-tension values. As the SWT in the root zone was maintained close to the setup threshold plus 20% tolerance for at least 90% of the evaluation period, the performance of the controllers was considered satisfactory. The proposed controller was shown to be functional and was operated effectively for an SWT range of up to 30 kPa, which is commonly encountered under high-frequency irrigation conditions.

RESUMO A dinâmica da obstrução de emissores autocompensantes ainda é pouco conhecida, apesar de seu entendimento ser de fundamental importância para o controle da obstrução. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar, em laboratório, o comportamento da vazão de gotejadores autocompensantes sob o efeito da obstrução. Avaliaram-se 8 emissores autocompensantes, modelo Jain J-SC PC-PLUS com vazão nominal de 2,2 L h-1 em ensaios com duração de 8 h d-1, durante 4 semanas totalizando 160 h. A cada 40 h eram incrementadas a concentração e a granulometria de partículas, sendo adicionados 125 mg L-1 de sólidos, compostos por areia. A vazão dos emissores foi determinada por sistema de medição de massa. Verificou-se que as variações de vazão dos emissores não apresentaram padrão definido, ocorrendo de forma aleatória e em sua maioria de forma brusca, às vezes apresentando vazões superiores à vazão nominal (vazão máxima relativa de 182%); outras vezes, vazões inferiores (vazão mínima relativa de 0%).

ABSTRACT The clogging dynamics of pressure-compensating drippers is still poorly addressed, and its understanding is quite important to control clogging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the flow performance of pressure-compensating drippers under clogging effect. Eight pressure-compensating emitters, model J-SC Jain PC-PLUS with nominal flow rate of 2.2 L h-1 were evaluated. The tests were run for 8 h d-1 for 4 weeks, a total of 160 h. Every 40 h, the concentration and granulometry of suspended particles were increased, by adding 125 mg L-1 of solids, composed of sand. The flow rate of the emitters was determined using a weight measurement system. Flow rate variations of the emitters did not follow a defined pattern. Clogging seems to occur randomly and abruptly. Sometimes the flow rate exceeded the nominal value (maximum relative flow rate of 182%) and other times it was lower than the nominal value (minimum relative flow rate of 0%).

RESUMO Objetivou-se, no presente estudo, estabelecer os parâmetros de amplitude das irregularidades da superfície interna de tubos plásticos para irrigação, assim como procedimentos para sua obtenção e representação utilizando-se um rugosímetro de bancada. Durante o ano de 2013 foram avaliados 350 perfis de rugosidade de tubos de PVC e polietileno de baixa densidade (PEBDL), sendo determinados os parâmetros de rugosidade Ra, clássico para a representação das irregularidades de superfícies na maioria das situações, além dos parâmetros adicionais Rc, Rq e Ry. Determinações hidráulicas de perda de carga foram realizadas em laboratório para comparação com a perda de carga obtida pela aplicação dos parâmetros de rugosidade. Evidenciou-se diferença significativa de desempenho estatístico dos parâmetros de rugosidade (Ra, Rq, Rc e Ry) de acordo com o diâmetro do tubo e, portanto, constatou-se que a adoção de valores de rugosidade específicos para cada diâmetro contribui para a exatidão das estimativas de perda de carga. A rugosidade média para tubos de PVC e PEBDL foi 3,334 e 8,116 μm, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT Assuming that a roughness meter can be successfully employed to measure the roughness on the internal surface of irrigation pipes, this research had the purpose of defining parameters and procedures required to represent the internal surface roughness of plastic pipes used in irrigation. In 2013, the roughness parameter Ra, traditional for the representation of surface irregularities in most situations, and the parameters Rc, Rq, and Ry were estimated based on 350 samples of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) pipes. Pressure losses were determined from experiments carried out in laboratory. Estimations of pressure loss varied significantly according to the roughness parameters (Ra, Rc, Rq, and Ry) and the corresponding pipe diameter. Therefore, specific values of roughness for each pipe diameter improves accuracy in pressure losses estimation. The average values of internal surface roughness were 3.334 and 8.116 μm for PVC and LDPE pipes, respectively.

RESUMO Phytophthora nicotianae é um fitopatógeno responsável por danos em culturas e ecossistemas naturais em todo o mundo. P. nicotianae está relacionada às doencas: gomose e podridao de raízes e o manejo destas doencas depende principalmente de certificação de mudas e erradicação de plantas infectadas. No entanto, pouco se sabe sobre a estratégia de infecção do patógenos em plantas de citrus, o que eleva a necessidade de examinar a sua virulência em níveis moleculares. Neste trabalho nós apresentamos um método otimizado para manipular geneticamente o micélio de P. nicotianae. P. nicotianae foi transformada com um vetor de expressão da proteína fluorescente DsRed. O método AMT otimizado gerou relativa alta eficiência de transformação. Também apresenta vantagens sobre os outros métodos porque é o de mais simples execução, não requer protoplastos ou esporos como alvos, é menos dispendioso e não requer equipamento específico. A transformação com DsRed não prejudicou a fisiologia, reprodução ou virulência do patógeno. O método AMT otimizado aqui apresentado é útil para rápida, eficaz e confiável transformação de P. nicotianae com qualquer gene de interesse.

ABSTRACT Phytophthora nicotianae is a plant pathogen responsible for damaging crops and natural ecosystems worldwide. P. nicotianae is correlated with the diseases: citrus gummosis and citrus root rot, and the management of these diseases relies mainly on the certification of seedlings and eradication of infected trees. However, little is known about the infection strategies of P. nicotianae interacting with citrus plants, which rises up the need for examining its virulence at molecular levels. Here we show an optimized method to genetically manipulate P. nicotianae mycelium. We have transformed P. nicotianae with the expression cassette of fluorescence protein DsRed. The optimized AMT method generated relatively high transformation efficiency. It also shows advantages over the other methods since it is the simplest one, it does not require protoplasts or spores as targets, it is less expensive and it does not require specific equipment. Transformation with DsRed did not impair the physiology, reproduction or virulence of the pathogen. The optimized AMT method presented here is useful for rapid, cost-effective and reliable transformation of P. nicotianae with any gene of interest.
