ABSTRACT. The selectivity and efficacy of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PROTOX) inhibitor herbicides in cassava varieties depend on product formulation, dosage, and soil texture. The aim of this study was to assess the selectivity and efficacy of flumioxazin and sulfentrazone in the cassava variety ‘IPR B36’ and the clone ‘VN 117’. Two experiments were carried out: one in a clayey soil and one in a sandy soil. Both experiments were laid in a split-plot randomized block design with three replicates. The two cassava varieties were used as main plots, with subplots consisting in 10 treatments including, flumioxazin at 50, 75, 100, and 125 g ha-1; sulfentrazone at 250, 500, 750, and 1000 g ha-1; one weed-free control, and one unweeded control. Flumioxazin (≥75 g ha-1) and sulfentrazone (≥250 g ha-1) achieved mean weed control rates > 70 and 90% in both types of soil for up to 90 days after application. Flumioxazin exhibited fewer residual effects on the cassava varieties than sulfentrazone, particularly in clayey soil. Flumioxazin was selective to the different cassava varieties planted in both soil types, whereas sulfentrazone was more selective in clayey soil. PROTOX inhibitors were effective in controlling weed growth in cassava plots, and there were no varietal differences in herbicide selectivity; however, the use of sulfentrazone should be restricted to maximum spray rates of 250 g ha-1 in sandy soils.

ABSTRACT Digitaria insularis (L.) Fedde stands out for its resistance to glyphosate and this characteristic may have a relationship with structural alterations. In such context, this research aimed at the characterization of the foliar anatomical structure of two populations of D. insularis (glyphosate-resistant and glyphosate-susceptible biotypes) collected in agricultural areas of Paraná, a Brazilian state. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Botany of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná – Unioeste, Brazil. The resistant biotypes of D. insularis differ from the susceptible ones in several structural parameters. Among them, the Mesophyll Thickness in the interveinal region was 7.3% thicker in the resistant biotype, which was also observed in the thickness of the keel, in the percentage of 11.3%, and in the thickness of cuticles in the adaxial surface (TCad), which was 53.8% thicker in the resistant biotype. In this way, we concluded that the resistant biotypes of D. insularis differ from the susceptible ones in several anatomical foliar characteristics, therefore, they present possible mechanisms of resistance to glyphosate.

We had, as an objective, characterizing, anatomically, the leaves of two populations of D. insularis (resistant biotype and susceptible biotype), which were collected in cropping areas in Paraná. In order to do this, a trial design in random sets was employed, which were repeated ten times. To obtain the data, it was evaluated the structural and quantitative variables of foliar blades of anatomical parts, which belonged to different leaves in the mature stage that were removed from distinct resistant and susceptible biotypes of D. insularis. The structural variables of the cross-sectional parts evaluated from the foliar blades were: the thickness of the foliar blade in the intercostal region (TBI); thickness of the keel (TK); stomata number (SN) and thickness of cuticle (TC) in the adaxial and abaxial faces. The resistant biotypes of D. insularis differ from the susceptible ones in several structural parameters, among them, there is the foliar blade in the interveinal region that was 7.3 ticker in the resistant biotype, which was also observed in the thickness of the keel, in the percentage of 11.3%, and in the thickness of the cuticle in the adaxial face (TCD), which was 53.8% thicker in the resistant biotype. In this way, we concluded that the anatomical foliar characteristics observed in the resistant biotypes, which differ from the susceptible ones, can be related to the reduction in the absorption and the herbicides translocation speed, constituting, therefore, possible mechanisms of resistance to glyphosate

Tivemos como objetivo caracterizar anatomicamente as folhas de duas populações de D. insularis (biótipo resistente e biótipo suscetível) coletadas em áreas agrícolas no Paraná. Para isso, utilizou-se delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com dez repetições. Para a obtenção dos dados, foram avaliadas variáveis estruturais quantitativas de secções anatômicas da lâmina foliar, pertencentes a diferentes folhas no estágio maduro retiradas de distintos biótipos resistentes e suscetíveis de D. insularis. Entre as variáveis estruturais das secções transversais da lâmina foliar avaliadas foram: espessura da lâmina foliar na região intercostal (ELI); espessura da quilha (EQ); número de estômatos (NE); espessura da cutícula (EC) nas faces adaxial e abaxial. Os biótipos resistentes de D. insularis diferem dos susceptíveis em vários parâmetros estruturais, entre eles, quanto a lâmina foliar na região internervural que foi 7,3% mais espessa no biótipo resistente, o que também foi observado na espessura da quilha com 11,3% e na espessura da cutícula na face adaxial (ECD) que foi 53,8% mais espessa no resistente. Dessa forma, concluímos que as características anatômicas foliares observadas nos biótipos resistentes que diferem dos susceptíveis, podem estar relacionadas com a redução na absorção e na velocidade de translocação de herbicidas, constituindo assim possíveis mecanismos de resistência ao glyphosate.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da palhada de aveiapreta (Avena strigosa) sobre o período anterior à interferência (PAI) de plantas daninhas na cultura da cenoura 'Alvorada' (Daucus carota). O experimento foi realizado em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 2×5, com cinco repetições. Os dois seguintes fatores foram avaliados nos anos de cultivo de 2016/2017 e 2017/2018: cobertura de solo com e sem 10 Mg ha1 de palhada de aveia-preta; e períodos de coexistência com as plantas daninhas – 0, 15, 30, 60 e 120 dias após a emergência (DAE). Para determinar o PAI, considerou-se como aceitável a perda de 5% na produtividade comercial de raízes da cenoura. Ao final do ciclo da cultura, a palhada reduziu a massa seca total de plantas daninhas em 43,5 e 67,5%, respectivamente, no primeiro e no segundo ano de cultivo. O PAI dos cultivos com e sem palhada foi, respectivamente, de 2,0 e 1,5 DAE no primeiro ano e de 17 e 6,0 DAE no segundo. O uso da palhada de aveia-preta aumenta o PAI para cultura da cenoura 'Alvorada'.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of black oat (Avena strigosa) straw on the period prior to the interference (PPI) of weeds in the 'Alvorada' carrot (Daucus carota) crop. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design, in a 2×5 factorial arrangement, with five replicates. The following two factors were evaluated in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 crop years: soil cover, with and without 10 Mg ha1 black oat straw; and periods of coexistence with weeds – 0, 15, 30, 60, and 120 days after emergence (DAE). To determine the PPI, a loss of 5% in the commercial yield of carrot roots was considered as acceptable. At the end of the crop cycle, straw reduced the total dry mass of weeds by 43.5 and 67.5%, respectively, in the first and second crop years. The PPI of the crops with and without straw was, respectively, 2.0 and 1.5 DAE in the first crop year and 17 and 6.0 DAE in the second. The use of black oat straw increases the PPI for the 'Alvorada' carrot crop.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the selectivity of cassava cultivar ‘Santa Helena’ and the efficiency of weed control using herbicides applied alone or tank mixed with and without sequential applications. Two experiments were carried out, both in a randomized block design with four replications. The treatments for the 1st experiment were: Hand hoeing (weed-free control); No hand hoeing (non-weeded control); sulfentrazone (500 g ha-1); sulfentrazone/[clomazone + clethodim] (500/[1125 + 120] g ha-1); sulfentrazone/mesotrione (500/240 g ha-1); S-metolachlor (1920 g ha-1); S-metolachlor/[clomazone + clethodim] (1920/[1125 + 120] g ha-1); S-metolachlor/mesotrione](1920/240 g ha-1); [sulfentrazone + S-metolachlor]/[clomazone + clethodim] ([500 + 1920]/[1125 + 120] g ha-1); [sulfentrazone + S-metolachlor]/mesotrione ([500 + 1920]/240 g ha-1). The treatments of the 2nd experiment were: Hand hoeing (weed-free control); No hand hoeing (non-weeded control); glyphosate (360 g ha-1) + hand hoeing; glyphosate + sulfentrazone (360 + 500 g ha-1); glyphosate + flumioxazin (360 + 50 g ha-1); glyphosate + clomazone (360 + 1125 g ha-1); glyphosate + S-metolachlor (360 + 1920 g ha-1); glyphosate + sulfentrazone + clomazone (360 + 400 + 900 g ha-1); glyphosate + sulfentrazone + S-metolachlor (360 + 400 + 1440 g ha-1); glyphosate + flumioxazin + clomazone (360 + 40 + 900 g ha-1); glyphosate + flumioxazin + S-metolachlor (360 + 40 + 1440 g ha-1). In the first experiment, only the treatments S-metolachlor, S-metolachlor/[clomazone + clethodim] and S-metolachlor/mesotrione did not present efficient weed control, causing reduction in yields; the other treatments were crop selective and efficient. In the second experiment, all treatments showed excellent levels of weed control up to 65 DAA and were crop selective. It is concluded that applications of tank mixtures, sequential mixtures and the use of glyphosate mixed with pre-emergent herbicides constitute excellent alternatives of weed management strategies in ‘Santa Helena’ cassava.

ABSTRACT The use of strategies such as sequential applications and mixtures may increase the control spectrum and the residual effect of chemical control of weed in the cassava crop. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the selectivity and efficacy of sequential applications and tank mixture of herbicides in the control of weed in the cassava crop cultivar ‘Baianinha’. The experimental design was of randomized blocks, with eleven treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted in: harrowed control, control without harrow, clomazone, mesotrione, S-metolachlor, clomazone+S-metolachlor, mesotrione+S-metolachlor, clomazone+mesotrione, sulfentrazone/clomazone, clomazone/[mesotrione+S-metolachlor], S-metolachlor/[mesotrione+clomazone]. The doses used for clomazone, mesotrione, sulfentrazone and S-metolachlor in the single applications, in sequence and in tank mixture were of 1,25, 0,24; 0,6 anf 1,92 kg ha-1, respectively. The first application of the sequential treatments occurred 50 days after planting (DAP) and the second at 92 DAP. The applications of mesotrione, mesotrione+clomazone and mesotrione+S-metolachlor, were carried late, at 92 DAP. Based on the data obtained, it is concluded that the mixture mesotrione+S-metolachlor and the sequential application of clomazone/[mesotrione+S-metolachlor] were selective to cassava ‘Baianinha’ and efficient in the weed control (over 80% up to 148 days after planting).

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da competição de plantas daninhas sobre o acúmulo de nitrogênio e fósforo nas folhas e sobre a massa seca das raízes de mandioca (Manihot esculenta), nos sistemas convencional e direto, em dois ciclos de cultivo. Os experimentos foram realizados em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com parcelas subsubdivididas e quatro repetições. As parcelas consistiram do plantio convencional ou do plantio direto; as subparcelas, da competição ou não com plantas daninhas; e as subsubparcelas, dos períodos de avaliação (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200 e 225 dias após o plantio/poda). No primeiro ciclo, a competição com plantas daninhas reduziu o acúmulo de nitrogênio em 82,6 e 81,3% e o de fósforo em 65,7 e 85,3%, no plantio convencional e no plantio direto, respectivamente. No segundo ciclo, as reduções no acúmulo de nitrogênio foram de 41,1 e 52,4% e, no de fósforo, de 44,1 e 52,6%, no plantio convencional e no plantio direto, respectivamente. A massa seca das raízes de mandioca cultivada sob competição de plantas daninhas apresentou reduções de 15,8 e 11,2% no plantio convencional e no plantio direto, respectivamente, apenas no segundo ciclo. A competição de plantas daninhas reduz o acúmulo de nitrogênio e fósforo nas folhas de mandioca, nos sistemas convencional e plantio direto, em ambos os ciclos de cultivo, mas reduz a matéria seca das raízes de mandioca apenas no segundo ciclo.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of weed competition on the accumulation of nitrogen and phosphorus in the leaves and on the dry weight of the roots of cassava (Manihot esculenta) in the conventional and no-tillage systems, in two crop cycles. The experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design, with split-split plots and four replicates. The plots consisted of conventional tillage or no-tillage; the split plots, of the competition or not with weeds; and the split-split plots, of the evaluation periods (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, and 225 days after planting/pruning). In the first cycle, weed competition reduced the accumulation of nitrogen in 82.6 and 81.3% and of phosphorus in 65.7 and 85.3% under conventional tillage and no-tillage, respectively. In the second cycle, the reductions in the accumulation of nitrogen were of 41.1 and 52.4% and of phosphorus of 44.1 and 52.6%, in conventional tillage and no-tillage, respectively. The root dry weight of cassava grown with weed competition showed reductions of 15.8 and 11.2% under conventional tillage and no-tillage, respectively, only in the second cycle. Weed competition reduces the accumulation of nitrogen and phosphorus in the leaves of cassava in the conventional and no-tillage systems in both crop cycles, but reduces the dry matter of cassava roots only in the second cycle.

RESUMO O déficit hídrico é limitante à produção agrícola, tendo como efeito primário a redução nas trocas gasosas vegetais, e a continuidade da incidência resulta em menor produtividade. Objetivou-se avaliar as respostas fotossintéticas e a produção de soja sob déficit hídrico severo induzido, em relação à inoculação via semente e aplicação foliar com Azospirillum brasilense e regulador vegetal contendo auxina, giberelina e citocinina. Utilizou-se delineamento de blocos casualizados, em condições de casa-de-vegetação, com cinco tratamentos: quatro sob condições de deficiência hídrica (controle, inoculação de sementes com A. brasilense e aplicação foliar de A. brasilense e de regulador vegetal) e um tratamento irrigado. Foram avaliados a umidade gravimétrica do solo, teor relativo de água, taxa assimilatória líquida de CO2, eficiência quântica aparente, ponto de compensação lumínica e produção de grãos. A deficiência hídrica reduziu o teor relativo de água em 76,96 % e as trocas gasosas da soja em 860,43 %, no controle seco. Todavia, quando da utilização de A. brasilense ou regulador vegetal, a redução desses valores foi mitigada, com reduções máximas de 52,40 % no teor relativo de água e de 361,99 % nas trocas gasosas. Assim, a mitigação desses efeitos se correlacionou diretamente com a produção de grãos por planta, onde o uso de A. brasilense via foliar ou regulador vegetal apresentaram médias 19 % superiores ao controle seco. A aplicação de A. brasilense via foliar e regulador amenizam os efeitos do déficit hídrico na fotossíntese da soja e culminam em menores perdas na produtividade.

ABSTRACT Drought stress is a limitation for the agricultural production, having as a primary effect the reduction of plant gas exchanges, and the continuity of its incidence results in a lower yield. This study aimed to evaluate the photosynthetic responses and the soybean yield, concerning the seed inoculation and foliar spray with Azospirillum brasilense and plant regulator containing auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin. A randomized complete block design was used under greenhouse conditions, with five treatments: four under drought stress (control, seed inoculation and foliar spray with A. brasilense and plant regulator) and one irrigated treatment. The soil gravimetric moisture, relative water content, CO2 net assimilation rate, apparent quantum efficiency, light compensation point and grain yield were evaluated. The water deficiency reduced the relative water content by 76.96 % and the soybean gas exchanges by 860.43 %, in the drought stress control. However, when using A. brasilense or plant regulator, the reduction of these values was mitigated, with maximum reductions of 52.40 % in the relative water content and 361.99 % in the gas exchanges. Thus, the mitigation of these effects was directly correlated with the grains yielded by plants, where the use of foliar spray with A. brasilense or plant regulator presented averages 19 % higher than the drought stress control. The applications of foliar spray with A. brasilense and plant regulator mitigate the effects of drought stress on the soybean photosynthesis and culminate in lower yield losses.

RESUMO A alelopatia contribui com o manejo sustentável de plantas daninhas em áreas de cultivo, devido à capacidade de inibir o desenvolvimento de espécies infestantes. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito alelopático do extrato de Pachyrhizus erosus na germinação de Euphorbia heterophylla e Bidens pilosa. Utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em fatorial 2 x 2 x 4, com quatro repetições. O primeiro fator correspondeu à parte da planta (parte aérea e raiz tuberosa), o segundo ao método de preparo (água à temperatura ambiente e em ebulição) e o terceiro à concentração dos extratos (0 %, 25 %, 50 % e 100 %). Análises fitoquímicas foram realizadas para identificar a presença de metabólitos secundários. As variáveis porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e biomassa seca reduziram-se conforme o aumento da concentração dos extratos aquosos, tanto para E. heterophylla quanto para B. pilosa. Houve 18 % e 92 % de redução na germinação de E. heterophylla e B. pilosa, respectivamente, quando utilizado o extrato bruto da parte aérea (ebulição) de P. erosus, com redução, ainda, de 91 % da biomassa seca das plântulas de E. heterophylla. O extrato da raiz tuberosa (ebulição) reduziu em 18 % e 80 % a porcentagem de germinação de E. heterophylla e B. pilosa, respectivamente. A avaliação fitoquímica indicou a presença de flavonoides, cumarinas e saponinas para o extrato da parte aérea e da raiz tuberosa, enquanto taninos foram observados apenas no extrato da parte aérea. Conclui-se que os extratos preparados com P. erosus possuem efeito alelopático nas espécies avaliadas.

ABSTRACT Allelopathy contributes to the sustainable management of weeds in growing areas, due to its ability to inhibit the development of weed species. This study aimed to evaluate the allelopathic effect of Pachyrhizus erosus extract on Euphorbia heterophylla and Bidens pilosa germination. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 2 x 2 x 4 factorial scheme, with four replications. The first factor corresponded to the plant portion (shoot and tuberous root), the second to the extract preparation method (water at room temperature and boiling) and the third to the extract concentrations (0 %, 25 %, 50 % and 100 %). Phytochemical analyses were performed to identify the presence of secondary metabolites. The variables germination percentage, germination rate index and dry biomass decreased with increasing aqueous extract concentrations for both E. heterophylla and B. pilosa. When applied a P. erosus crude shoot extract (boiling), decreases of 18 % and 92 % were observed in the E. heterophylla and B. pilosa germination, respectively, with a decrease of 91 % in the dry biomass of E. heterophylla seedlings. The tuberous root extract (boiling), on the other hand, reduced the germination percentages for E. heterophylla and B. pilosa in 18 % and 80 %, respectively. The phytochemical evaluation indicated the presence of flavonoids, coumarins and saponins in the shoot and tuberous root extracts, while tannins were only observed in the shoot extract. Thus, it can be concluded that P. erosus extracts display an allelopathic effect on the weed species evaluated.

RESUMO A competição com plantas daninhas é um dos entraves para atingir altas produtividades, na colheita de pinhão-manso. O método químico é uma alternativa de controle de plantas daninhas, devido à alta eficiência, rapidez e economia, quando comparado aos demais métodos. Porém, há escassez de produtos recomendados para essa cultura. Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos de formulações de clomazone aplicado em pré e pós-emergência, no desenvolvimento inicial de pinhão-manso. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos sob o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em arranjo fatorial 2 x 5, com 4 repetições, constituindo-se da combinação de duas formulações (suspensão de encapsulado e concentrado emulsionável) e cinco doses de clomazone (0 g ha-1, 250 g ha-1, 500 g ha-1, 1.000 g ha-1 e 2.000 g ha-1). A massa seca das plantas foi reduzida tanto na aplicação em pré-emergência quanto em pós-emergência. Afotossíntese líquida não foi afetada pela aplicação do clomazone em ambas as formulações. A formulação de suspensão de encapsulado é menos fitotóxica do que a de concentrado emulsionável, para as aplicações em pré e pós emergência. Entretanto, ambas as formulações afetam negativamente o desenvolvimento inicial das plantas de pinhão-manso.

ABSTRACT Competition with weeds is one of the obstacles to achieve high yields in jatropha harvest. The chemical method is an alternative weed control due to its high efficiency, readiness and economy, when compared to other methods. However, products recommended for this crop are scarce. This study aimed at evaluating the effects of pre and post-emergence clomazone formulations at the initial development of jatropha. Two experiments were conducted under a randomized blocks design, in a 2 x 5 factorial arrangement, with four replications, consisting of the combination of two clomazone formulations (encapsulated suspension and emulsifiable concentrate) and five doses (0 g ha-1, 250 g ha-1, 500 g ha-1, 1,000 g ha-1 and 2,000 g ha-1). The dry matter of the plants was reduced both in the pre-emergence and post-emergence applications. Net photosynthesis was not affected by the application of clomazone in both formulations. The encapsulated suspension formulation is less phytotoxic than the emulsifiable concentrate formulation for pre and post-emergence applications. However, both formulations negatively affect the early development of jatropha plants.

O comportamento invasivo do capim-amargoso (Digitaria insularis) em áreas de cultivo deve-se à sua estratégia de regeneração agressiva, que está alicerçada na germinação das sementes. O conhecimento da ecofisiologia dessa espécie pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento de estratégias de manejo e controle. Objetivou-se com a presente pesquisa conhecer o efeito de diferentes procedências, temperaturas e luz na germinação de sementes de capim-amargoso. As sementes foram coletadas no Estado de São Paulo nas cidades de Americana, Botucatu e São José do Rio Preto e no Estado do Paraná na cidade de São Miguel do Iguaçu e, colocadas para germinar em temperaturas de 15; 25; 35 e 45 °C, com e sem luz. Foram contabilizadas diariamente as plântulas normais de sete a 60 dias. Após esse período, os substratos com sementes foram transferidos para 25 ºC na presença de luz realizando-se contagem diária até que a germinação cessasse em todos os tratamentos (75 dias após a semeadura). As sementes de D. insularis são fotoblásticas positivas. A germinação das sementes desta espécie depende da procedência. A temperatura de 45 ºC para a germinação é letal às sementes. A temperatura de 35 ºC combinada com luz é a condição mais favorável para a germinação das sementes.

The invasive behaviour of sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) in cultivated areas is due to its strategy of aggressive regeneration, which is based on seed germination. Knowledge of the physiological ecology of this species can contribute to the development of management and control strategies. The aim of this research was to understand the effects of provenance, temperature and light on the germination of sourgrass seeds collected in the Brazilian state of São Paulo in the cities of Americana, Botucatu and São José do Rio Preto and in the state of Paraná in the city of São Miguel do Iguaçu. The seeds were left to germinate at temperatures of 15, 25, 35 and 45 °C, both with and without light. The number of normal seedlings was recorded daily from seven to 60 days. After this period, the seeds together with substrate, were transferred to 25 ºC with light, and a daily count was made for all treatments until the end of germination (75 days after sowing). The seeds of D. insularis are positively photoblastic. Seed germination in this species depends on provenance. A temperature of 4 5 °C for germination is lethal to the seeds. The temperature of 35 °C in the presence of light is the most favourable condition for seed germination.

O manejo químico das plantas daninhas destaca-se como ferramenta importante para a garantia de altos rendimentos da mandiocultura. Este estudo objetivou avaliar a seletividade e eficiência de herbicidas, aplicados em pré-emergência, na cultura da mandioca cv. 'Cascuda'. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, com dez tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos utilizados foram: clomazone (900 g ha-1 e 1.080 g ha-1), flumioxazin (60 g ha-1), sulfentrazone (600 g ha-1), S-metolachlor (1.920 g ha-1), clomazone + flumioxazin (900 + 50 g ha-1), clomazone + sulfentrazone (900 + 500 g ha-1) e clomazone + S-metolachlor (900 + 1.440 g ha-1), além de uma testemunha sem capina e outra capinada. A comunidade de plantas daninhas foi composta por 9 famílias e 12 espécies, destacando-se as famílias Asteraceae e Poaceae, com o maior número de espécies. Os herbicidas apresentaram-se seletivos às plantas de mandioca cv. 'Cascuda', quando aplicados em pré-emergência. Os herbicidas foram eficientes no controle das plantas daninhas, sendo que o flumioxazin (60 g ha-1), sulfentrazone (600 g ha-1), S-metolachlor (1.920 g ha-1) e as misturas clomazone + flumioxazin (900 + 50 g ha-1), clomazone + sulfentrazone (900 + 500 g ha-1) e clomazone + S-metolachlor (900 + 1.440 g ha-1) apresentaram maior efeito residual.

The chemical control of weeds stands out as an important tool for obtaining high yields in cassava crops. This study aimed at evaluating the selectivity and efficiency of pre-emergent herbicides on cassava ('Cascuda' cultivar) crop. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with ten treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of clomazone (900 g ha-1 and 1,080 g ha-1), flumioxazin (60 g ha-1), sulfentrazone (600 g ha-1), S-metolachlor (1,920 g ha-1), clomazone + flumioxazin (900 + 50 g ha-1), clomazone + sulfentrazone (900 + 500 g ha-1) and clomazone + S-metolachlor (900 + 1,440 g ha-1), as well as a weeded and a non-weeded control. The weed community was composed by 9 families and 12 species, with the Asteraceae and Poaceae families presenting the highest number of species. The pre-emergent herbicides were selective for 'Cascuda' cultivar cassava plants. The herbicides were effective in controlling weeds, with flumioxazin (60 g ha-1), sulfentrazone (600 g ha-1), S-metolachlor (1,920 g ha-1) and the mixtures of clomazone + flumioxazin (900 + 50 g ha-1), clomazone + sulfentrazone (900 + 500 g ha-1) and clomazone + S-metolachlor (900 + 1,440 g ha-1) presenting the highest residual effect.

Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos de extratos de quatro espécies de adubos verdes (Canavalia ensiformis, Crotalaria spectabilis, Mucuna aterrimae Sorghum bicolor cv. AG 2005) sobre a germinação de sementes e o crescimento inicial de plântulas deLactuca sativa e de Digitaria horizontalis. Foram realizados dois experimentos: no primeiro, avaliou-se a aplicação das soluções diluídas a 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% e10% de extratos aquosos da parte aérea e das raízes das espécies de adubos verdes sobre a germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e o comprimento radicular de L. sativa; no segundo, avaliou-se a incorporação ao solo de 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 e 50 g dm-3 da biomassa dos adubos verdes sobre o acúmulo de massa seca (parte aérea e raízes) e o desenvolvimento radicular de plântulas de L. sativa e de D. horizontalis. Concluiu-se que os extratos aquosos das espécies C. ensiformis, C. spectabilis, M. aterrima e S. bicolor cv. AG 2005 promoveram efeitos negativos sobre a germinação e o IVG das sementes de L. sativa. A incorporação ao solo da biomassa dessas espécies de adubos verdes influenciou negativamente no desenvolvimento inicial das plântulas de L. sativa. Entretanto, verificou-se efeito positivo sobre o desenvolvimento inicial de D. horizontalis com a incorporação ao solo da biomassa de C. spectabilis.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential allelopathic effects of four species of green manure (Canavalia ensiformis, Crotalaria spectabilis, Mucuna aterrima and Sorghum bicolor cv. AG 2005) on the seed germination and initial growth of seedlings of Lactuca sativa and Digitaria horizontalis. In the first experiment, the effects of dilute solutions of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% and 10% of shoot and root aqueous extracts of green manure were evaluated on germination, speed of germination index (SGI) and root length of L. sativa. In the second experiment, the incorporation into the soil of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 g dm-3 of biomass of green manure was evaluated on the accumulation of dry weight (shoots and roots) and root development of seedlings of L. sativa and D. horizontalis. In conclusion, the aqueous extracts of the species C. ensiformis, C. spectabilis, M. aterrima and S. bicolor cv. AG 2005 promoted negative allelopathic effects on seed germination and SGI of L. sativa. The incorporation into the soil of the biomass also negatively affected the initial development of seedlings of L. sativa. However, there were beneficial allelopathic effects on the early development of D. horizontalis with incorporation into the soil biomass of C. spectabilis.

Conduziu-se este trabalho, com o objetivo de avaliar a qualidade da deposição da calda de pulverização em plantas de feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), Bidens pilosa L. e de Brachiaria plantaginea (Link) Hitchc. presentes na linha e entrelinha da cultura. Foi utilizado como traçador o corante Azul Brilhante FDC-1 (500 ppm). Utilizaram-se cinco pontas de pulverização: jato plano (XR 110015 VS e XR 11002 VS), jato plano duplo (TJ60 11002 VS) e jato cônico (TX-6 VS e TX-8 VS) e dois volumes de aplicação 150 e 200 L ha-1. O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso, com 4 repetições. Foram amostradas 25 plantas em cada parcela/repetição, de plantas de feijão e plantas daninhas presentes na linha e na entrelinha da cultura. Após a aplicação, as plantas foram coletadas e lavadas em água destilada para quantificação do traçador em espectrofotômetro. Os dados ajustaram-se à curva de regressão pelo modelo de Gompertz. Os resultados evidenciaram que: para as plantas de feijão as pontas XR 110015 e TJ60 proporcionaram as deposições mais uniformes, nos volumes de 150 e 200 L ha-1, respectivamente; a ponta TX-6 no volume de 150 L ha-1 apresentou melhor uniformidade de distribuição para ambas as espécies de plantas daninhas presentes na linha da cultura; para as plantas daninhas presentes na entrelinha, no volume de 150 L ha-1, destacaram-se as pontas XR 110015 e TJ60 11002 para B. pilosa e B. plantaginea, respectivamente, no volume de 200 L ha-1 destacou-se a ponta TX-8 para ambas as espécies.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the deposition quality of spray solution in common bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), Bidens pilosa L. and Brachiaria plantaginea (Link) Hitchc., present in the crop row and spacing row. Brilliant blue FDC - 1 was used as a tracer solution (500 ppm). Five nozzles were used: flat fan nozzle (XR 110015 VS and XR 11002 VS), double flat fan nozzle (TJ60 11002 VS) and cone nozzle (TX-6 VS and TX-8 VS), and two application volumes: 150 and 200 L ha-1. A randomized blocks design was used, with four replications. 25 plants were sampled for replication in each plot, common beans as well as weeds in crop row and spacing row. After the application, the plants were collected and washed in distilled water for tracer quantification in spectrophotometer. The data adjusted to the regression curve according to the Gompertz model. The results showed that, for the common bean plants, XR 110015 and TJ60 nozzles had provided the most uniform depositions in 150 and 200 L ha-1 application volume, respectively; the nozzle in the volume of 150 L ha-1 had a more uniform distribution for both the species of harmful plants present in the crop line; for the weeds present in the crop row in a volume of 150 L ha-1 the best performances were presented by the XR 110015 nozzle for B. pilosa and the TJ60 nozzle for B. plantaginea. For the volume of 200 L ha-1 , the TX-8 nozzle presented the best performance for both species.

Com o objetivo de quantificar a quantidade e a uniformidade dos depósitos da calda de pulverização em duas cultivares de soja ('CD 208' e 'CD 216'), no estádio R1, por meio de diferentes pontas e volumes de pulverização, foram conduzidos dois experimentos na área, na Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas UNESP- Botucatu, São Paulo (SP). Os tratamentos avaliados foram: pontas de jato plano (AI 110015 a 150L ha-1, AI 11002 a 200 e 250L ha-1); pontas de jato plano duplo (TJ 60 11002 a 150, 200 e 250L ha-1); pontas de jato cônico (TX-6 a 150, TX-8 a 200 e TX-10 a 250L ha-1) e pontas de jato plano duplo e baixa deriva (DGTJ 11002 a 200L ha-1). O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. Para a avaliação da deposição, foi utilizado na pulverização o corante Azul Brilhante FDC- 1 (500mg L-1). Foram coletadas 25 plantas em cada repetição, divididas em região basal e apical. A determinação do conteúdo depositado foi realizada com a leitura de absorbância no comprimento de onda de 630nm, e os dados transformados em depósitos por grama de matéria seca foram ajustados às curvas de regressão, por meio do modelo de Gompertz. Os maiores depósitos avaliados nas cultivares 'CD 208' e 'CD 216' corresponderam aos tratamentos AI 11002 250L ha-1 e TJ 60 11002 250L ha-1, respectivamente. Os resultados da uniformidade da distribuição da calda de pulverização foram contraditórios aos da quantidade de depósitos. Em todas as avaliações, o tratamento de maiores depósitos apresentou menor uniformidade na distribuição.

Whit the objective of quantifying the deposits of spraying in two soybean cultivars ('208 CD' and 'CD 216') at R1 grown stage through different nozzles and volumes of spraying, two experiments were carried out at the experimental area of Agricultural College UNESP- Botucatu/SP. The treatments were: flat-fan nozzle (AI 110015 at 150L ha-1, AI 11002 at 200 and 250L ha-1); twin flat-fan (TJ 60 11002 at 150, 200 and 250L ha-1); conical (TX-6 at 150, TX-8 at 200 and TX-10 at 250L ha-1) and twin flat-fan and low drift (DGTJ 11002 at 200L ha-1). The experimental design was a randomized completely block, with four replicates. For the evaluation of the deposition Blue courante Shining FDC- 1 was used in the spraying (500mg L-1). In each replication, 25 plants in had been collected divided in basal and apical section. Deposits content was determinated by absorbance in the wave length of 630nm, then transformed into deposits per gram of dry matter and adjusted to the regression curves, through the model of Gompertz. The biggest deposits were evaluated with AI 11002 at 250L ha-1 and TJ 60 11002 at 250L ha-1, in the cultivar 'CD 208' and 'CD 216', respectively. Treatments whit the largest deposits showed the minor distribution uniformity.
