ABSTRACT: Methods in cognitive neuroscience can assist educational planning of teachers in the context of Special Education, as they favor personalized practices that value individual students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Intellectual Deficiency (ID). Therefore, this study aimed to verify the feasibility of using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in clinical naturalistic situation with children and young people with ASD and/or ID during teaching tasks. In addition, the study sought to identify training strategies so that children and young people use the equipment during the activity. Seven students diagnosed with ASD and/or ID were trained with mathematics, reading and emotional expressiveness, according to their respective previous educational curricula. Each participant was exposed to two tasks in each activity, one in which he/she already had a domain and one that needed support to issue an independent response. The results indicated the feasibility of using fNIRS in this natural context of the child and the young student and provided implicit measures beyond the observational arrangement measures and task error. This is an important demonstration of the feasibility of using fNIRS in experiments in the context of Special Education.

RESUMO: Métodos em neurociência cognitiva podem auxiliar o planejamento educacional de docentes no contexto da Educação Especial, por favorecerem práticas personalizadas que valorizem a velocidade individual de aprendizagem de estudantes com transtorno do espectro do autismo (TEA) e/ou deficiência intelectual (DI). Assim sendo, este estudo objetivou verificar a viabilidade de uso da Espectroscopia Funcional de Infravermelho Próximo (fNIRS) em situação naturalística clínica com crianças e jovens com TEA e/ou DI durante tarefas de ensino. Ademais, o estudo buscou identificar as estratégias de treino para que as crianças e os jovens utilizassem o equipamento durante a realização da atividade. Sete estudantes com diagnóstico de TEA e/ou DI foram treinados com atividades de matemática, leitura e expressividade emocional, de acordo com seus respectivos currículos educacionais prévios. Cada participante foi exposto a duas tarefas em cada atividade, uma na qual já apresentava domínio e outra que necessitava de apoio para emitir uma resposta independente. Os resultados indicaram a viabilidade de uso do fNIRS nesse contexto natural da criança e do jovem e forneceram medidas implícitas para além das medidas observacionais de acerto e erro na tarefa. Esta é uma importante demonstração da viabilidade do uso do fNIRS em experimentos no contexto da Educação Especial.

Resumo Este trabalho teve por objetivo a caracterização e análise dos fatores fisiográficos da bacia do rio Atibaia e sua influência nos processos de enchentes e inundações, além de avaliar a suscetibilidade a eventos de inundação para o município de Campinas, nos anos de 1985 e 2019. Em um primeiro momento, foram utilizadas técnicas de geoprocessamento e índices definidos na literatura a fim de proporcionar uma compreensão abrangente da bacia do rio Atibaia quanto a seus atributos geométricos, de relevo e drenagem e sua influência aos processos de inundação, com o intuito de fornecer suporte à tomada de decisão referente às ações preventivas e mitigadoras dos impactos socioeconômicos e ambientais na região. Em um segundo momento, as características pedogeomorfológicas e de uso e ocupação da terra do município de Campinas foram processadas por meio de técnicas de geoprocessamento e aplicadas ao Processo Analítico Hierárquico com a finalidade de gerar o mapeamento específico do município quanto a sua suscetibilidade a inundações. O mapeamento permitiu conhecer os locais críticos do município de Campinas, elegendo áreas prioritárias às ações e programas governamentais no tocante à gestão urbana e ambiental, podendo orientar ainda a geração de novos estudos na escala de detalhe, com vistas à prevenção e contingência de possíveis impactos decorrentes dos processos de inundação.

Abstract This study characterized and analyzed the physiographic factors of the Atibaia River Basin and their influence on flooding processes and evaluated the susceptibility to flooding in the municipality of Campinas during the years 1985 and 2019. At first, geoprocessing techniques and indices defined in the literature were used to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Atibaia River Basin regarding its geometric, relief, and drainage attributes and its influence on flooding processes, to provide decision-making support regarding preventive and mitigating actions for the socioeconomic and environmental impacts in the region. The pedogeomorphological characteristics and land use and occupation of Campinas were applied to the Analytic Hierarchy Process using geoprocessing techniques to generate the specific mapping of the municipality’s susceptibility to flooding. The mapping allowed us to identify the critical sites of the municipality of Campinas, choosing priority areas for government action and programs regarding urban and environmental management. It can also guide new studies on the detail scale aiming to prevent and mitigate flooding events.

Introduction This study aimed to describe the clinical spectrum of dengue in children and adolescents from a hyperendemic region who were admitted for hospitalization. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on patients diagnosed with dengue infection upon admission to a reference center in Fortaleza, Brazil. Results Of the 84 patients included, 42 underwent confirmatory testing. The main symptoms were fever, abdominal pain and vomiting. The median level of serum aspartate aminotransferase was 143.5±128mg/dL. Conclusions A peculiar clinical profile was evident among children and adolescents with dengue infection in a reference center in northeast Brazil, including gastrointestinal symptoms and liver involvement.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar zonas pluviometricamente homogêneas no Estado da Bahia e analisar as condições climáticas de cada zona entre 1981 e 2010. Foi aplicada a técnica de mineração de dados, Clusterização (agrupamento de dados), por meio do uso do algoritmo k-means, para transformação das séries históricas de precipitação em cinco zonas pluviometricamente homogêneas, em resposta à orografia, maritimidade e sistemas meteorológicos atuantes na região. Foram utilizados dados de médias mensais de precipitação de 92 estações meteorológicas. Os resultados apontam que as zonas mais secas estão situadas na parte central, de norte a sul do estado, principalmente ao norte com os menores volumes anuais, em torno de 480 mm. A zona localizada ao norte do estado é contrastante com a faixa litorânea, em que são observados os maiores volumes anuais de precipitação (1.380 mm aproximadamente). A alta variabilidade pluviométrica ocorre em quase todas as zonas, principalmente em duas do semiárido com coeficientes de variação (CV) iguais a 42 e 28%. Diferencia-se dessa característica a zona pertencente à faixa litorânea, que apresenta regularidade de chuvas durante todo o ano e CV de 15%. As estações chuvosas e secas estão bem definidas. Os valores de precipitação da estação chuvosa representam em torno de 81% dos totais anuais, com destaque para as zonas situadas no centro-oeste e oeste do estado, com 95 e 96% dos totais anuais.

The aim of this study was to identify rainfall homogeneous areas in the State of Bahia, Brazil and analyze the climatic conditions of each area for the period between 1981 and 2010. It was applied a data mining technique, clustering (grouping of data), by using the k-means algorithm for transforming time series of precipitation in five rainfall homogeneous areas, in response to topography, maritime dimension, and weather systems operating in the region of study. Data of average monthly rainfall of 92 meteorological stations were used. The results indicate that the driest areas are situated in the central part of the state, from north to south, mainly in the north with the lowest annual volumes, around 480 mm. The area located in the north of the state contrasts with that one located on the coast, where the largest volumes of annual rainfall of the study were observed (approximately 1.380 mm). The high rainfall variability occurs in almost all areas, especially in two of those of semiarid ones with Coefficients of Variation (CV) reaching 42 and 28%. This characteristic differs from the area belonging to the coastal area, which presents regular rainfall during all the year and a CV of 15%. The rainy and dry seasons are well defined. Precipitation values of the rainy season accounts for about 81% of the annual total, with emphasis on the zones located in the central-west and west of the state with 95 and 96% of the annual total.

The influence of oral infections, especially periodontal disease, on systemic diseases has been extensively discussed in the literature. Because periodontal disease is a persistent infection, it promotes an inflammatory response. C-reactive protein is a marker for inflammatory reactions that is frequently studied, since elevated levels of this protein are related to coronary events. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of periodontal therapy on reducing the serum levels of C-reactive protein, by means of a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A systematic review of the English-language literature was conducted in the PUBMED-MEDLINE database, using the key words "periodontal disease", "C-reactive protein", "periodontal therapy" and "periodontal treatment", in accordance with the terms for Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), to evaluate the effect of periodontal therapy on C-reactive protein levels. A qualitative analysis of studies of randomized clinical trial design was performed using CONSORT, with subsequent meta-analysis. RESULTS: The literature search initially retrieved 46 potentially relevant studies available in the databases. From these, in accordance with the inclusion criteria, only 11 were selected, of which only 4 fulfilled the criteria of randomized clinical trial design. According to CONSORT, the studies evaluated generally presented good quality with regard to the criteria analyzed. Through meta-analysis, the reduction in mean levels of C-reactive protein (-0.231; p=0.000) after introducing periodontal treatment was estimated. The result was statistically significant, without evidence of heterogeneity between the studies (p=0.311). CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicated that non-surgical periodontal treatment had a positive effect with regard to reduction of the serum levels of C-reactive protein.

OBJETIVO: Proteína C-Reativa (PCR) é um marcador de inflamação presente no plasma cujos níveis podem se elevar devido a um processo inflamatório, ocasionando um maior risco a eventos cardiovasculares, como o Infarto Agudo do Miocárdio. A doença periodontal promove uma resposta imuno-inflamatória do hospedeiro, contribuindo com níveis mais elevados de PCR, esclarecendo sua associação com a doença cardiovascular. Objetivou-se neste estudo verificar o efeito da terapia periodontal nos níveis desse marcador inflamatório. METODOLOGIA: A amostra constou de 62 pacientes, de ambos os sexos, com faixa etária entre 30 e 60 anos, encaminhados para tratamento odontológico na Fundação Bahiana para Desenvolvimento das Ciências, e distribuídos entre dois grupos: com e sem periodontite. Os descritores clínicos empregados consistiram de Índice de Sangramento, Recessão Gengival, Profundidade de Sondagem e Nível de Inserção Clínica. Para a análise da PCR foi coletado sangue periférico dos indivíduos e encaminhados a um mesmo laboratório de análises clínicas. RESULTADOS: O grupo com periodontite foi tratado e os resultados mostraram que houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre os níveis de PCR antes e após o tratamento periodontal (P<0,05). CONCLUSÃO: De acordo com os achados finais, pode-se concluir que a terapia periodontal não cirúrgica apresentou uma tendência de redução dos níveis séricos da PCR.

PURPOSE: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of inflammation that is naturally present in the plasma at levels that may rise due to inflammatory processes, associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular events such as acute myocardial infarction. Periodontal disease is responsible for a host immune-inflammatory response, contributing towards clarifying its association with cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of periodontal therapy on the levels of this inflammatory marker. METHODS: The sample consisted of 62 patients of both genders, between the ages of 30 to 60 years, who were referred to dental treatment at the Bahia Foundation for the Development of Sciences, and they were divided into two groups: with and without periodontitis. The clinical descriptors used were the bleeding index, gingival recession, probing depth and clinical attachment level. For CRP analysis, peripheral blood was collected from these individuals and sent to a single clinical analysis laboratory. RESULTS: The group with periodontitis was treated and the results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the CRP levels before and after periodontal treatment (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: From the final findings, it may be concluded that non-surgical periodontal therapy showed a tendency to reduce the CRP serum levels.
