Resumo A heterogeneidade e vulnerabilidade da população em situação de rua revelam a complexidade de viver nessa condição e exige que o Estado tenha papel fundamental na oferta de políticas de saúde e assistência social. O objetivo do estudo, a partir de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, foi avaliar a intersetorialidade entre políticas de saúde, proteção social e ações da sociedade civil organizada para a população em situação de rua no Brasil. Foi realizada uma busca nas bases SciELO, Lilacs e PubMed, sendo selecionados dez artigos, publicados entre 2004-2021, todos de caráter qualitativo. Observou-se indícios da intersetorialidade entre as políticas para a população em situação de rua, descritas principalmente como uma ponte de acesso entre os serviços ofertados. Entretanto, as intervenções ainda são pouco exploradas e sistematizadas. Nesse sentido, recomenda-se que estudos de impacto voltados à avaliação de políticas públicas intersetoriais sejam desenvolvidos para que se permita a avaliação da efetividade da intersetorialidade entre os serviços de saúde, assistência social e sociedade civil organizada na qualidade de vida da população em situação de rua.

From the analysis of the chosen articles, the evidence of intersectorality between the policies for the unhoused population was observed, mainly described as a point of intersection between the services offered. However, interventions are still poorly explored and systematized. It is recommended that quantitative studies aimed at the evaluation of intersectoral public policies be developed to allow the assessment of the impact of intersectorality between health services, social assistance and organized civil society on the quality of life of the unhoused population.

Abstract Few long-term studies assess the discoloration induced by hydraulic calcium silicate-based cement on dental structures. In addition, as far as we know, no long-term study has assessed the discoloration induced by these cement on composite resin. Objective This in vitro study aimed to assess, during a period of two years, the discoloration potential of different hydraulic calcium silicate-based cements (hCSCs) on the enamel/dentin structure and composite resin restoration. Methodology A total of 40 enamel/dentin discs were obtained from bovine incisors, and 40 composite resin discs (10 mm in diameter × 2 mm thick) were fabricated. A 0.8 mm-deep cavity was made in the center of each disc and filled with the following hCSCs (n=10): Original MTA (Angelus); MTA Repair HP (Angelus); NeoMTA Plus (Avalon); and Biodentine (Septodont). An initial color measurement was performed (T0 - baseline). After 7, 15, 30, 45, 90, 300 days, and two years, new color measurements were performed to determine the color (ΔE00), lightness (ΔL’), chroma (ΔC’), hue differences (ΔH’), and whiteness index (WID). Results For enamel/dentin, the ΔE00 was significant among groups and periods (p<0.05). NeoMTA Plus had the greatest ΔE00. The NeoMTA Plus group had the greatest ΔE00 after two years for composite resin. Significant reduction in lightness was observed for all groups after two years (p<0.05). The most significant WID values were observed after 30 days for Biodentine (enamel/dentin) and MTA Repair HP groups (composite resin) (p<0.05). Conclusions The hCSCs changed the colorimetric behavior of both substrates, leading to greater darkening over time. The Bi2O3 in the Original MTA seems relevant in the short periods of color change assessment.

ABSTRACT Purpose this study aims to analyze the association between motivation to learn and adaptation to the ERT of students in the 9th year of Elementary School and 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of High School in a privately funded institution. Methods this is an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study, in which 68 adolescents participated, authorized by their parents, who answered three questionnaires through the Google Forms platform, namely: Questionnaire for the Characterization of Participants; Learning Motivation Scale (EMAPRE) and Remote Learning Adaptation Questionnaire. Results the association analysis showed that students with high motivation felt better adapted to the ERT. In addition, it showed that girls with low motivation were more inclined to avoid negative situations than boys. Conclusion it was concluded that intrinsic motivation may have influenced the adaptation to ERT and that girls may have been motivated to avoid school failure in a way that didn’t harm their personal emotional issues.

RESUMO Objetivo analisar a associação entre a motivação para aprender e a adaptação ao ensino remoto emergencial (ERE) de estudantes do 9º ano do ensino fundamental e 1º, 2º e 3º anos do ensino médio de uma instituição de financiamento privado. Métodos trata-se de estudo observacional, analítico e transversal, do qual participaram 68 adolescentes, autorizados pelos pais ou responsáveis, e que responderam a três questionários, por meio da plataforma Google Forms: Questionário de Caracterização dos Participantes; Escala de Motivação para a Aprendizagem e Questionário sobre a Adaptação ao Ensino Remoto. Resultados a análise de associação demonstrou que estudantes com alta motivação se sentiram mais bem adaptados ao ERE. Além disso, mostrou que as adolescentes com baixa motivação se orientaram de modo a evitar situações negativas, mais do que os adolescentes. Conclusão a motivação intrínseca pode ter influenciado a adaptação ao ensino remoto emergencial e as adolescentes podem ter sido motivadas a evitar o insucesso escolar, de modo que não prejudicasse suas questões emocionais pessoais.

ABSTRACT Congenital malformations are more frequently found among children born to mothers with diabetes than in the background population. There are several complex mechanisms involved in the development of congenital malformations in the offspring of mothers with hyperglycemia, such as the overexpression of glucose transporters (GLUTs) 1 and 2, the increased activity of the hexosamine biosynthetic pathway and the reduced expression of the PAX3 gene with a consequent increase in p53 protein expression. These alterations can lead to increased glucose and free radical concentrations in the embryo, thus promoting the process of apoptosis and causing malformation. The most frequent malformations found in the offspring of mothers with diabetes are heart and neural tube defects, urinary tract and kidney malformations, and cleft lip with or without cleft palate. Strict glycemic control should be obtained before and during pregnancy, aiming to avoid or minimize the risk of congenital malformations in the offspring. Beyond hyperglycemia, several factors may also be associated with increased risks of malformations in the offspring of these women, such as obesity, multiple pregnancies, advanced maternal age, folic acid deficiency, use of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers, assisted reproduction techniques, and exposure to different types of environmental pollutants.

RESUMO Objetivo: Construir e validar cartilha sobre o uso do oclusor da colostomia como suporte tecnológico para intervenção educative Métodos: Estudo metodológico com foco na produção de tecnologia leve-dura para pessoas colostomizadas em uso de oclusor, desenvolvido em três etapas: revisão da literatura; validação com 13 experts; e com 7 pessoas colostomizadas. Resultados: O conteúdo que compôs a cartilha foi selecionado com base na análise dos artigos identificados na Etapa 1. Na Etapa 2, quanto ao conteúdo, o número de páginas e a aparência obtiveram Índice de Validade de Conteúdo 0,85 e 1,00 respectivamente. Na Etapa 3, o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo mínimo foi de 0,71 em dois itens referentes à organização e 0,86 no estilo da escrita. Os demais itens obtiveram Índice de Validade de Conteúdo 1,0. Conclusão: Validou-se a cartilha com experts e pessoas colostomizadas, e a versão final, contendo 50 páginas, foi ofertada aos profissionais da área de saúde e pessoas colostomizadas em uso do oclusor.

ABSTRACT Objective: To develop and validate a booklet on the use of the colostomy plug as a technological support for educational intervention. Methods: Methodological study focusing on the production of soft and hard technologies for colostomized people using a plug, developed in three stages: literature review; validation with 13 experts; and with seven colostomized persons. Results: The content for the booklet was selected based on the analysis of the articles identified in Step 1. In Step 2, regarding the content, the number of pages and appearance obtained a Content Validity Index of 0.85 and 1.00 respectively. In Step 3, the minimum Content Validity Index was 0.71 in two items related to organization and 0.86 for the writing style. The other items obtained a Content Validity Index of 1.0. Conclusion: The booklet was validated among experts and colostomized persons, and the final version, containing 50 pages, was offered to health professionals and colostomized people in use of a plug.

En la Etapa 3, el Índice de Validez de Contenido mínimo fue de 0,71 en dos ítems referentes a la organización y 0,86 en el estilo de la escrita. Los demás ítems obtuvieron Índice de Validez de Contenido 1,0. Conclusión: Validó la cartilla con expertos y personas colostomizadas, y la versión final, conteniendo 50 páginas, ofertada a los profesionales de la área de salud y personas colostomizadas en uso del obturador.

ABSTRACT Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious public health problem, with approximately 10 million new cases reported annually. Knowledge about the quantitative evolution of theses and dissertations (T&Ds) examining human TB in Brazil can contribute to generating strategic planning for training professionals in this field and disease control. Therefore, this study highlights the role of T&Ds on TB in national scientific disclosures. Methods: An integrative review related to TB was performed, including T&Ds produced in Brazil and completed between 2013 and 2019. Results: A total of 559,457 T&Ds were produced, of which 1,342 were associated with TB, accounting for 0.24% of the total number of T&Ds in Brazil. This was evidenced by a predominance of themes such as attention/health care, epidemiology, and TB treatment, and 80.2% of the T&Ds on TB were related to the large areas of health and biological sciences. Only 19.7% of T&Ds were associated with groups of patients considered at risk for TB, and 50.9% were produced in southeastern Brazil. The 1,342 T&Ds on TB were developed in 416 postgraduate programs linked to 121 higher education institutions (HEIs). We highlight that 72.7% of T&Ds on TB were produced in federal HEIs, 27.4% in state HEIs, and 8.5% in private HEIs. Conclusions: Strategic themes, such as TB control, require public policies that aim to increase the number of doctors and masters with expertise in TB, with geographic uniformity, and in line with the priorities for disease control.

RESUMO Esta pesquisa analisou a exposição de mulheres em situação de prostituição no centro de São Paulo à covid-19. Este estudo transversal contou com amostra de conveniência selecionada em maio de 2021. Entrevistou-se 219 mulheres majoritariamente negras, de meia idade, pobres e com comorbidades. Dentre essas mulheres, 61 tiveram sintomas de covid-19, 23 com teste positivo,7 foram internadas e 4 relataram complicações pós-covid-19. Somente 26 (30,2%) haviam sido vacinadas. Além das desigualdades de gênero, raça e classe, essas mulheres são expostas a um maior risco de contraírem covid-19, devido às condições de trabalho e por apresentarem doença grave relacionada à idade e falta de vacinação.

We interviewed 219, mostly black, middle-aged, poor women with comorbidities. Among them, 61 had shown COVID-19 symptoms, 23, tested positive for the disease, seven underwent hospitalization, and four reported post-COVID-19 complications. Only 26 (30.2%) had been vaccinated. In addition to gender, race, and class inequalities, these women suffer both from a higher risk of contracting COVID-19 due to their working conditions and from the subsequent worsening of that disease due to age and lack of vaccination.

Resumo Introdução A lesão da medula espinal (LME) muda radicalmente a vida da pessoa devido às alterações na dinâmica corporal, levando à incapacidades e redução da funcionalidade. Objetivo Analisar a independência funcional de indivíduos com LME e comparar os grupos. Métodos Indivíduos com LME foram entrevistados sobre sua independência funcional por meio da versão brasileira do Spinal Cord Independence Measure - Self-Reported Version (brSCIM-SR) e posteriormente seus respectivos domínios e subdomínios foram comparados entre os grupos diagnósticos, tempo de lesão e gênero. Resultados A amostra foi composta por 50 indivíduos com idade de 40,92 ± 13,93 anos, prevalecendo homens e diagnóstico de paraplegia. Na maioria dos domínios do brSCIM-SR todos os entrevistados atingiram boa independência no autocuidado, na respiração e controle esfincteriano e no total do brSCIM-SR, exceto na mobilidade. Na paraplegia, as LMEs crônicas e ambos os sexos alcançaram excelente independência na maioria dos subdomínios e no total do instrumento. Valores significantemente baixos foram encontrados na tetraplegia e nas LMEs recentes no subdomínio autocuidado. Na maioria dos subdomínios, a tetraplegia atingiu valores significativamente inferiores. Nos subdomínios da respiração e controle esfincteriano, os participantes eram independentes na função respiração, mas nas tetraplegias apresentaram significativa depen-dência nas transferências para o vaso sanitário. Na mobilidade houve grande dependência nos itens subir e descer escadas e transferir-se do chão para a cadeira de rodas. Conclusão Os indivíduos com LME demonstra-ram boa independência funcional, com pior desempenho na tetraplegia e lesões recentes, mas a mobilidade apresentou parcial dependência nos participantes.

Abstract Introduction Spinal cord injury (SCI) radically changes a person’s life because of alterations in body dynamics, leading to disabilities and reduced functionality. Objective To analyze the functional independence of individuals with spinal cord injury and compare the groups. Methods Individuals with SCI were interviewed about their functional independence using the Brazilian version of the Spinal Cord Independence Measure - Self-Reported Version (brSCIM-SR) and later their respective domains and subdomains were compared between diagnostic groups, time since injury and sex. Results The sample consisted of fifty individuals aged 40.92 ± 13.93 years, predominantly men and diagnosed with paraplegia. In most brSCIM-SR domains, all respondents achieved good independence in self-care, respiration and sphincter management, and in the total brSCIM-SR, except for mobility. In paraplegia, chronic SCIs and both sexes achieved excellent independence in most subdomains and in the total. Significantly low values were found for tetraplegia and recent SCI in the self-care subdomain. In most subdomains, tetraplegia reached significantly lower values. In the subdomains of respiration and sphincter management, the participants were independent in the breathing function, but in tetraplegia, they showed significant dependence on transfer to the toilet. In terms of mobility, there was great dependence on the items going up and down stairs and transfer from the floor to the wheelchair. Conclusion The brSCIM-SR measures the degree of functionality, allowing health professionals and the patient to quantify and locate the items that indicate their deficits or gains during the rehabilitation process. Here, individuals with SCI showed good functional independence, with worse performance in the tetraplegia and recent injury groups: however, mobility showed partial dependence in the participants.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar o perfil de crianças e adolescentes encaminhados à avaliação fonoaudiológica e caracterizar o acesso destes usuários a este atendimento em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde (UBS). Métodos: estudo quantitativo descritivo-analítico, cujos dados foram obtidos de planilha com informações de usuários atendidos de maio/2013 a fevereiro/2020. Foi realizada análise descritiva das seguintes variáveis: sexo, idade na data do encaminhamento, queixa fonoaudiológica, ano do encaminhamento e do acolhimento, origem do encaminhamento, condutas pós-acolhimento e desfecho após terapia fonoaudiológica. As variáveis categóricas foram analisadas por meio de frequência e as variáveis numéricas por medidas de tendência central e dispersão. Para verificar a associação entre o tempo de fila de espera e o não comparecimento ao acolhimento fonoaudiológico, foi utilizado o teste de Mann-Whitney considerando 5% como nível de significância. Resultados: foram encaminhados 171 casos, a maioria do sexo masculino, entre 4 e 6 anos, com queixas de linguagem; 73,66% foram encaminhados por profissionais da UBS, principalmente pelo pediatra. Após a avaliação fonoaudiológica, 27,49% foram encaminhados para a níveis mais complexos de atenção à saúde. Dentre os 78 que iniciaram fonoterapia na UBS, 24,36% tiveram alta e 32,05% foram desligados por faltas. Houve relação estatisticamente significante na análise dos dados de tempo de fila de espera e o não comparecimento ao acolhimento fonoaudiológico. Conclusão: a atuação da Fonoaudiologia na Atenção Básica contribui com sua resolutividade, pois quando está presente neste nível do sistema de saúde, absorve grande parte das demandas.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to analyze the profile and access of patients who need speech-language pathology care in a Primary Health Unit (UBS). Methods: a descriptive analytical study, including data obtained from a spreadsheet with information provided by patients from May 2013 to February 2020. The following variables were analyzed: gender, age at referral, speech-language pathology complaint, year of referral, year of the first visit and service, and professional responsible for the health referral, speech therapy conduct after first visit, and outcome after therapy. Categorical variables were analyzed by means of frequency and numeric variables by measures of central tendency and dispersion. For inferential statistical analysis, the Mann-Whitney test was used, considering 5% as the significance level. Results: in total, 171 individuals were referred, most were males, aged 4 to 6 years, with language complaints; 73.66% were referred by professionals from the UBS, mainly by pediatricians. After the speech-language pathology assessment, 27.49% were referred to the specialty. Among the 78 individuals who started speech-language therapy at the UBS, 24.36% were discharged and 32.05% were dismissed, due to absences. A statistically significant correlation was observed when analyzing data of waiting time and non-attendance at the first speech therapy visit. Conclusion: as it addresses a large part of the demands in Primary Care, speech-language pathology helps to increase solubility at this level of the health system. Lack of compliance is considered a barrier in service organization and in promoting access to other patients.

Objective: To identify registries of congenital anomalies with national coverage existing around the world, highlighting its main historical and operational characteristics. Methods: Document review of literature on the Medline/Pubmed database and data from reports, official documents and websites. Works relating at least one national register were included. Results: 40 national registries of congenital anomalies were identified in 39 different countries. All registries included in the study were located in high- or uppermiddle-income countries, with a concentration in Europe. Most of the registries were population-based, with mandatory notification and time limit of notification of up to one year of age. The Brazilian registry presented the highest annual coverage. Conclusion: The registries discussed here presented different characteristics, which were related to the reality of each country. The presented results provide subsidies for surveillance of congenital anomalies, especially in places that wish to implement such an activity.

Objetivo: Identificar registros de anomalias congênitas com cobertura nacional existentes no mundo, destacando suas principais características históricas e operacionais. Métodos: Revisão documental, mediante busca na base Medline/Pubmed e consulta a dados provenientes de relatórios, documentos oficiais e sítios eletrônicos. Foram incluídos trabalhos com relato de pelo menos um registro nacional. Resultados: Identificou-se 40 registros nacionais de anomalias congênitas em 39 países diferentes. Todos os registros incluídos no estudo localizavam-se em países de renda alta ou média superior, com concentração na Europa. A maior parte dos registros foi de base populacional, de notificação compulsória e com tempo limite para notificação de até um ano de idade. O registro brasileiro apresentou a maior cobertura anual. Conclusão: Os registros discutidos apresentaram características diversas, relacionadas à realidade de cada país. Os resultados apresentados fornecem subsídios para a temática da vigilância das anomalias congênitas, sobretudo em locais onde se deseja implementar tal atividade.

Resumen Objetivo: conocer las estrategias que pueden ayudar a las personas en duelo por la muerte de miembro de la familia por la covid-19 para afrontar la pérdida. Metodología: revisión narrativa realizada en la plataforma PubCovid-19 por medio de los descriptores “death; “mourning”; “Covid-19”; “coping strategies”. Se incluyeron diez artículos. Resultados: las estrategias encontradas se relacionan con la adopción de llamadas telefónicas, grabación de audios, cartas y fotos, las que se clasifican como inmediatas y a largo plazo centradas en la atención de la salud mental, la que puede ser afectada por la depresión y los trastornos psicológicos. Conclusiones: es urgente la creación de programas de asesoramiento para los familiares de los fallecidos por la covid-19, con el fin de ofrecer una atención integral, humanizada y continua, con un enfoque en la salud mental.

Abstract Objective: To explore the strategies that can help individuals mourning a family member’s death from Covid-19 to cope with the loss. Method: We carried out a narrative review on the PubCovid-19 platform using the descriptors “death,” “mourning,” “Covid-19,” and “coping strategies.” Ten articles were included. Results: The strategies found are phone calls, audio recording, letters, and photos, classified as immediate and long-term. These strategies are focused on mental health, which can be adversely affected by depression and psychological disorders. Conclusions: Creating counseling programs for the relatives of those who died from Covid-19 is urgent. They must offer comprehensive, humanized, and continuous mental health care.

Resumo Objetivo: conhecer as estratégias que podem auxiliar pessoas enlutadas pela morte de familiares pela covid-19 a lidarem com a perda. Metodologia: revisão narrativa realizada na plataforma PubCovid-19 por meio dos descritores “death” “bereavement”, “grief” e “mourning”. Foram incluídos dez artigos. Resultados: as estratégias encontradas dizem respeito à adoção de chamadas telefônicas, à gravação de áudios, à elaboração de cartas e à seleção das fotos, as quais são classificadas como imediatas e de longo prazo, focadas no cuidado com a saúde mental, a qual pode ser afetada pela depressão e pelos distúrbios psicológicos. Conclusões: urge que sejam criados programas de aconselhamento que ofereçam, aos parentes dos falecidos pela covid-19, um atendimento holístico, humanizado, contínuo, com foco na saúde mental.

Resumo: Introdução: O número de cursos de Medicina no Brasil e a quantidade de vagas ofertadas cresceram consideravelmente nos últimos anos. A partir de 2013, essa expansão tinha o objetivo de atingir sobretudo o interior do país. Objetivo: Considerando que existem diversos interesses em torno dessa expansão e que essa realidade influencia diretamente as políticas de educação e saúde do país, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a quantidade e a distribuição, em 2020, desses cursos e vagas nos municípios brasileiros. Método: Trata-se de estudo transversal com dados disponibilizados pelo Ministério da Educação e pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). As variáveis estudadas foram números de cursos, número de vagas e características dos municípios das escolas médicas, como tamanho da população, Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) e distância em relação à capital do respectivo estado. Resultados: Há 328 cursos em atividade que ofertam 35.480 vagas para ingressantes em Medicina. Ocorre diferença quando se analisam instituições públicas ou privadas e instituições gratuitas ou pagas. Há maior oferta de vagas em cursos pagos (74,1%) e em municípios de interior (69,8%). No interior, 27,8% das vagas são ofertadas por municípios distantes de um a 100 km da capital. A menor parte das vagas (7,9%) é ofertada em municípios de IDH médio, sendo o restante em municípios de IDH alto ou muito alto. O aumento do IDH está relacionado à maior proporção de cursos privados ofertando vagas de Medicina. Observou-se que não há correspondência entre o número absoluto de vagas e a população da Região Norte, o que ocorre nas demais regiões do país. Conclusões: A formação médica está sob várias influências, a exemplo das tendências econômicas e políticas. Essa discussão precisa levar em consideração a regionalização e a democratização do acesso. Observou-se tendência de as instituições públicas se destinarem a municípios mais distantes. Apesar de maior homogeneidade entre as regiões, a Região Sudeste ainda concentra quase metade das vagas. Além disso, o aumento do número de vagas em cursos privados evoca o questionamento sobre o perfil de estudantes que têm a oportunidade de acessar essa graduação.

Abstract: Introduction: The number of medical schools in Brazil, as well as the number of vacancies offered at these schools, has grown considerably in the last few years. Since 2013, this increasehas aimedat reaching especially the rural and underserved areas of the country. Objective: Considering that there are many different interests concerning this debate and that this reality directly influences the education and health policies of the country, the aim of this study was to evaluate the number and the distribution of the medical courses,as well as vacancies in these schools in 2020, presenting an updated overview of the Brazilian medical schools. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, based on data gathered from the Brazilian Ministry ofEducation and Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) website. The utilized variables were the number of courses, number of vacancies offered in each course, characteristics of the cities where the medical schools are located, such as population size, Human Development Index (HDI) and distance to the capital city of each state. Results: Among the institutions that have already initiated their activities, there are 328 active courses, offering 35.480 vacancies for Medical School applicants. There is a difference when analyzing public or private institutions and paid or tuition-free institutions. There is a greater offer of paid courses (74,1%) and of courses located in the countryside (69,8%). Among the courses in the countryside, 27,8% of the vacancies are offered within 100 km of the capital city. Only 7,9% of the annual vacancies are offered in cities with a medium HDI, and the remainder are offered in cities with high or very high HDI. The increase in HDI is related to the higher proportion of private courses offering medical vacancies. It was observed that there is no correspondence between the absolute number of vacancies and the population of the North region, differentfrom what occurs in the other regions of the country. Conclusions: Medical training is under many influences, such as economic and political trends. This discussion needs to consider the regionalization and democratization of access. It was observed that public institutions tend to be located in municipalities that are farther away from the capitals. Even though there is now greater homogeneity between the regions, the Southeast still concentrates almost half of the vacancies in medical courses. Also, the increase in the number of vacancies in private courses brings up the reflection about the socioeconomic profile of medical students who have the opportunity to gain access to this level of education.

ABSTRACT Nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus by healthcare workers is of great clinical importance as it facilitates the contamination of medical devices and cross-transmission. However, studies regarding the epidemiology and dissemination of S. aureus and Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) within the Primary Health Care in Brazil are scarce. The current study aimed to detect and characterize S. aureus and MRSA strains from the nasal cavities of 63 healthcare working in primary health care units in order to determine the prevalence of S. aureus and MRSA, biofilm formation and resistance profile of these isolates. PCR reactions were performed for detecting mecA, icaA and icaD genes. The phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility was assessed by the disk diffusion method and biofilm formation by the Congo Red Agar (CRA) method. The MRSA isolates were typed for the Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec). The prevalence of nasal carriage of S. aureus was 74.6%, of which 72.3% were MRSA carrying SCCmec type I (24.4%), III (34.1%), IV (36.6%). Two (4.9%) isolates presented a non-typeable cassette by the performed technique. The antimicrobial susceptibility evaluation evidenced penicillin resistance in 66.1% of S. aureus, erythromycin resistance in 49.2%, while 37.3% were resistant to oxacillin, 28.8% to cefoxitin, 5.1% to levofloxacin and 5.1% to clindamycin. All isolates were biofilm producers and 96.6% of the strains contained the ica biofilm-forming genes (icaA and/or icaD). We have demonstrated a high prevalence of S. aureus and MRSA carriage among health care working in Primary Health Care units, the presence of SCCmec types I, III and IV, in addition to their high ability to form biofilm, factors that possibly contribute to the dissemination and persistence of these pathogens within the primary care services. These observations highlight the importance of broadening the perspective of Health Care-Associated Infections prevention, including all health care levels, which are currently little explored. In addition, the dynamics and resistance mechanisms of S. aureus transmission still need to be further clarified to enable the implementation of more effective prevention measures.
