Resumo Os piolhos marinhos são copépodes abrangentemente relatados em teleósteos marinhos ao redor do mundo. Neste estudo, é documentado o primeiro registro de Caligus asperimanus Pearse, 1951, no Atlântico Sul Ocidental, parasitando Lutjanus jocu e Lutjanus vivanus capturados nas zonas costeiras do Espírito Santo e Rio de Janeiro, respectivamente.

Abstract Sea lice are widespread copepods in marine teleost around the world. In this paper the first record of Caligus asperimanus Pearse, 1951 in the Western South Atlantic is documented parasitizing Lutjanus jocu and Lutjanus vivanus caught from coastal zones of Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro State, respectively.

RESUMO: A resposta de parâmetros bioquímicos e hematológicos foram analisadas no dentão (Lutjanus jocu) cultivados em tanque-rede, bem como os exemplares mantidos em laboratório durante a infestação por Neobenedenia melleni e após o tratamento com banho de água doce e aplicação injetável de levamisol. Foram observadas alterações significativas nos indivíduos parasitados por N. melleni, caracterizado pelo aumento dos níveis de glicose e lactato, bem como significativa redução em hematócrito e aumento em leucócito dos peixes. O tratamento com banhos de água doce, concomitante à aplicação injetável de levamisol, evidenciou eficácia terapêutica em diversos parâmetros após 14 dias de tratamento.

ABSTRACT: The response of biochemical and hematological parameters were analyzed in dog snapper (Lutjanus jocu) grown in net cages, as well as for the specimens kept in the laboratory during an infestation by Neobenedenia melleni, and after treatment with freshwater bath and injectable application of levamisole. Significant changes were observed in N. melleni parasitized individuals, characterized by increased glucose and lactate levels, as well as a significant fish hematocrit reduction and leukocyte increase. Treatment with freshwater baths, concomitant with injectable levamisole application, showed therapeutic efficacy in several parameters after 14 days of treatment.

RESUMO: O objetivo da pesquisa foi determinar o nível de proteína bruta na dieta (400, 440, 480, 520 e 560g kg-1), nas rações de juvenis II de robalo-peva (Centropomus parallelus), que promove melhor absorção de proteína e menor excreção de produtos nitrogenados. Foram realizados três experimentos. O primeiro avaliou a taxa de retenção de proteína, o segundo a excreção de amônia, e o terceiro determinou o melhor coeficiente de digestibilidade. Os dados foram analisados por meio de regressão exponencial. A taxa de retenção proteica, calculada pela equação, apresentou efeito quadrático positivo e o máximo de retenção com 510,20g kg-1 de proteína na dieta. O aumento dos níveis de proteína resultou em maiores taxas de excreção de amônia total na água. Os valores médios dos coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente da proteína foram aumentando com o aumento da proteína dietética até o nível de 520g kg-1 onde se estabilizou. O nível de proteína bruta na dieta, determinado pela equação de regressão, que promove a melhor digestibilidade é de 495,62g kg-1.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to determine the level of dietary crude protein (CP) (480, 400, 440, 520 and 560g kg-1) in rations for juvenile II fat snook (Centropomus parallelus) that best promotes protein absorption and lower excretion of nitrogenous products. Three experiments were conducted: the first assessed the protein retention rate; the second evaluated ammonia excretion; and the third determined the best digestibility coefficient. The estimated protein retention rate showed a positive quadratic response to dietary CP with maximum retention at the 510.20g kg-1 protein level, and increasing levels of protein resulted in a greater total ammonia excretion rate in water. The mean apparent protein digestibility coefficient values increased with increasing levels of dietary protein up to 520g kg-1, where they stabilized. As determined by regression, the level of dietary CP that promotes the best digestibility was 495.62g kg-1.

Resumo A distribuição das espécies de Lucifer Thompson, 1829 (Decapoda: Luciferidae) no Giro Subtropical do Atlântico Sul foi avaliada pela Comissão Transatlântico Brasil I, entre novembro e dezembro de 2009. As amostras foram coletadas em 83 estações, em dois perfis entre o Brasil e África (20º e 30º Sul). Foram realizados arrastos oblíquos com rede cilindro-cônica, até 150 metros de profundidade. Observou-se uma relação sexual distinta entre as duas espécies encontradas. L. faxoni apresentou número de fêmeas significativamente maior em relação aos machos: 1:0.5 (X2 = 21,77, p = 0,0001), enquanto L. typus, teve proporção sexual de machos significativamente maior que de fêmeas: 1.86:1 (X2 = 50,84, p = 0,0001). A distribuição de L. typus variou entre as porções oeste e leste da cordilheira Mesoceânica. Essa distribuição esteve relacionada significativamente com a salinidade (R2 = 0.13; F(3.79); p = 0,009), mais elevada à oeste da área de estudo. No presente trabalho as duas espécies tiveram seus registros ampliados para o Giro Subtropical do Atlântico. De forma geral, os camarões luciferídeos foram mais frequentes e abundantes nas estações de coleta a oeste da Cordilheira Mesoceância, com L. typus sendo mais representativo tanto em abundância quanto em ocorrência.

Abstract The distribution of the species of Lucifer Thompson, 1829 (Decapoda: Luciferidae) in the South Atlantic Subtropical Gyre was assessed by the Brazil Transatlantic Commission in November and December 2009. The samples were collected at 83 stations on two profiles between Brazil and Africa (20 º and 30 ºS). Oblique hauls were performed with a WP-2 net up to 150 meters deep. A distinct sexual relationship was noted between the two species found and L. faxoni presented a significantly higher number of females relative to males 1:0.5 (X2 = 21.77, p = 0.0001). The L. typus sex ratio had significantly more males than females 1.86:1 (X2=50.84, p = 0.0001). The distribution of L. typus occurred in both the western and the eastern portions of the Mid-Oceanic Ridge. This distribution was significantly related to salinity (R2 = 0:13; F = 3.79, p = 0.009), which was higher in the western portion of the study area. In addition, the recordings of the two species were extended to the Atlantic Subtropical Gyre. Overall, Luciferidae shrimp were more common and abundant at the stations west of the Mid-Oceanic Ridge and L. typus was the most frequent and abundant species.

ResumoAs vantagens do uso dos copépodos em aquicultura incluem a superioridade nutricional, alta digestibilidade e um amplo espectro de tamanhos, com a possibilidade de bioencapsular nutrientes, probióticos e medicamentos. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar o efeito da alimentação de copépodos com uma dieta de microalgas e duas dietas inertes comerciais na performance de cultivo e seu perfil de ácidos graxos. Copépodos selvagens foram coletados no sistema estuarino do Rio Piraquê-açu, Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brasil, através de arrastos com uma rede de plâncton cônica com 60 cm de diâmetro e malha de 200 µm de abertura, com copo cego, em arrasto de subsuperfície, com velocidade de 1 nó durante 5 minutos. Após coletado, o material foi peneirado para selecionar apenas Oithona hebes. O experimento foi conduzido em nove tanques cilíndrico-cônicos com capacidade para 60 L, salinidade de 25,8 ± 1,3, temperatura de 25,5 ± 0,5 ºC, aeração fraca e povoados com uma densidade de 1,5 copépodos/mL. Foram realizados três tratamentos em triplicata: Tratamento 1 (Controle), alimentação com microalgas Chaetoceros gracilis e Nannochloropsis oculata(1:1) na proporção de 50.000 células/mL-1 cada; Tratamento 2, com S.parkle®INVE (1g/milhão-1) e Tratamento 3, com spirulina liofilizada (1g/milhão-1). As médias da população final foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p < 0,05). Os resultados demonstraram maior crescimento populacional para os copépodos com o tratamento S.parkle, sendo o único tratamento que apresentou copepoditos. O alimento S.parkle forneceu uma boa fonte de lipídios totais (9.54 g.100g-1 peso seco), alta disponibilidade de DHA, EPA e uma boa proporção DHA:EPA:ARA de 12,4:3,4:1,0. Copépodos que foram alimentados com S.parkle tiveram os maiores teores de DHA e relação DHA:EPA:ARA de 15,4:2,2:1,0. Este estudo conclui que S.parkle é um bom alimento inerte para cultivo de O. hebes, demonstrando a habilidade dos copépodos de bioencapsular nutrientes, possibilitandosua transferência na cadeia trófica.

AbstractThe advantages of using copepods in aquaculture include nutritional superiority, high digestibility and broad spectrum of sizes, with the possibility of bioencapsulation of nutrients, probiotics and medicines. This study aimed to compare the effects of feeding copepods with a microalgae diet and two commercial inert diets on the copepod culture performance and their fatty acid profile. Wild copepods were collected in the estuarine system of Piraquê-açu River, Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil, with a conical net of 60 cm in diameter and 200 μm mesh with a blind cup end, towed through the subsurface layer at a speed of 1 knot for 5 minutes. Once collected, the material was sieved in order to select only Oithona hebes. The experiment was conducted in nine cylindrical-conical tanks with a 60 L capacity, salinity of 25.8 ± 1.3, temperature of 25.5 ± 0.5 ºC and weak aeration, stocked with a density of 1.5 copepod/mL. Treatments were made in triplicate and consisted of: Treatment 1 (Control) fed with microalgae Chaetoceros gracilis and Nannochloropsis oculata (1:1) with 50,000 cells.mL-1each; Treatment 2 with S.Parkle® INVE (1g.million-1); and Treatment 3 with freeze-dried spirulina (1g.million-1). The mean final population was compared by a Tukey test (p < 0.05). Results showed higher population growth for copepods treated with S.parkle, which was the only treatment that presented copepodites. S.parkle was a good source of total lipids (9.54 g.100g-1 dry weight), high availability of DHA, EPA and had a good DHA:EPA:ARA ratio of 12.4:3.4:1.0. Copepods that were fed S.parkle had the highest DHA levels and a DHA:EPA:ARA ratio of 15.4:2.2:1.0. This study showed that S.parkle is a good inert food for rearing the copepod O. hebes, demonstrating the ability of copepods to bioencapsulate nutrients, allowing their transfer in the food chain.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da temperatura e da taxa de alimentação sobre o crescimento e a produtividade de juvenis de robalo-peva (Centropomus parallelus). Utilizou-se experimento fatorial com duas temperaturas (25 e 28º C) e duas taxas de alimentação (3 e 6% da biomassa ao dia), com três repetições para cada combinação de temperatura e taxa. Os peixes (9,80±0,41 g; 9,86±0,14 cm) foram alimentados duas vezes ao dia durante 60 dias. A cada 15 dias, foram realizadas amostragens para corrigir a quantidade de ração oferecida. Não houve mortalidade durante o experimento. Maior crescimento em peso e comprimento foi obtido nos animais submetidos à temperatura de 28ºC. Ganho de peso, biomassa final, conversão alimentar aparente e taxa de crescimento específico foram influenciados pela taxa de alimentação e pela temperatura. A oferta de 3% da biomassa ao dia a 28ºC proporciona melhores índices de crescimento e produtividade para juvenis de robalo-peva.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of temperature and feeding rates on growth and productivity of juvenile fat snook (Centropomus parallelus). A factorial experiment with two temperatures (25 and 28ºC) and two feeding rates (3 and 6% of biomass per day) was used, with three replicates for each combination of temperature and rate. Fish (9.80±0.41 g; 9.86±0.14 cm) were fed twice a day during 60 days. Every 15 days, samples were taken to correct the amount of food offered. No mortality was observed during the experiment. A greater growth in weight and length was obtained in animals subjected to the temperature of 28ºC. Weight gain, final biomass, apparent food conversion, and specific growth rate were influenced by feeding rate and temperature. The offer of 3% of biomass per day at 28ºC provides better growth and productivity indices for juvenile fat snook.

Paciente de 67 anos, sexo masculino, submetido à toracotomia exploradora para ressecção de nódulo pulmonar. Apresentou parada cardíaca durante o ato anestésico devido a infarto agudo do miocárdio. Após manobra de ressuscitação, foi encaminhado para a UTI, permanecendo intubado por 7 dias, evoluindo posteriormente com estenose traqueal cervical. Foram realizadas, posteriormente, revascularização do miocárdio e ressecção do nódulo pulmonar num primeiro tempo e, depois, correção cirúrgica da estenose traqueal por traqueoplastia.

A 67-year-old male patient underwent exploratory thoracotomy for pulmonary nodule resection. The patient presented a cardiorespiratory arrest during anesthesia due to myocardium infarction. After reanimation the patient was sent to ICU where he remained intubated for 7 days. Subsequently, he developed cervical tracheal stenosis. At first, the patient underwent a myocardium revascularization followed by surgical resection of tracheal stenosis through tracheoplasty.

Este estudo avaliou a perda de massa dentinária durante o preparo do canal radicular por 4 diferentes operadores utilizando o sistema de rotação alternada NSK (TEP-E10R, Nakanishi Inc.). Após a instrumentação manual de 84 pré-molares inferiores humanos com limas de aço inoxidável Triple-Flex (Kerr) até a lima #30, os espécimes foram pesados e divididos aleatoriamente em 4 grupos (n=21). Os canais foram preparados mecanicamente até o comprimento de trabalho com limas Triple-Flex #35 a #45 acopladas ao sistema de rotação alternada NSK acionado por motor elétrico (Endo Plus; VK Driller). Os grupos 1 a 4 foram preparados por professor de Endodontia, um endodontista, um estudante do 3º ano de Odontologia e um clínico geral, respectivamente. Após o preparo mecânico, os espécimes foram novamente pesados. A diferença entre o peso inicial e o peso final foi obtida e as médias de perda de massa dentinária em cada grupo foram submetidas à análise estatística por meio da ANOVA e Teste de Tukey com nível de significância de 5%. A maior quantidade de perda de massa dentinária foi observada no grupo 4, seguido pelos grupos 2, 3 e 1. Houve diferença estatisticamente significante o grupo 4 e os outros três grupos [p<0,001 (grupo 1); p=0,005 (grupo 2) e p=0,001 (grupo 3)]. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos 1 e 2 (p=0,608), 1 e 3 (p=0,914) e 2 e 3 (p=0,938). Conclui-se que embora o grupo preparado pelo clínico geral tenha diferido estatisticamente dos demais grupos em termos de quantidade de dentina removida, essa diferença não foi clinicamente relevante. O sistema de rotação alternada NSK mostrou-se um recurso auxiliar eficiente no preparo do canal radicular, independentemente da experiência do operador.

The purpose of this study was to assess dentin removal during root canal preparation by different operators using a NSK reciprocating handpiece. Eighty-four human single-rooted mandibular premolars were hand instrumented using Triple-Flex stainless-steel files (Kerr) up to #30, weighed in analytical balance and randomly assigned to 4 groups (n=21). All specimens were mechanically prepared at the working length with #35 to #45 Triple-Flex files (Kerr) coupled to a NSK (TEP-E10R, Nakanishi Inc.) reciprocating handpiece powered by an electric motor (Endo Plus; VK Driller). Groups 1 to 4 were prepared by a professor of Endodontics, an endodontist, a third-year dental student and a general dentist, respectively. Teeth were reweighed after root canal preparation. The difference between weights was calculated and the means of dentin removal in each group were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Tukey's test at 5 % significance level. The greatest amount of dentin removal was found in group 4, followed by groups 2, 3 and 1. Group 4 differed statistically from the other groups regarding dentin removal means [p<0.001 (group 1); p=0.005 (group 2); and p=0.001 (group3)]. No statistically significant difference was found between groups 1 and 2 (p=0.608), 1 and 3 (p=0.914) and 2 and 3 (p=0.938). In conclusion, although the group prepared by a general dentist differed statistically from the other groups in terms of amount of dentin removal, this difference was clinically irrelevant. The NSK reciprocating handpiece powered by an electric engine was proved an effective auxiliary tool in root canal preparation, regardless of the operator's skills.
