ABSTRACT Objective: Herein, we compared ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) between young adults with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) due to 21-hydroxylase enzyme (21OHase) deficiency and a control group. Additionally, we analyzed correlations between the glucocorticoid dose and androgen levels and ABP parameters. Subjects and methods: This case-control study included 18 patients (6 males and 12 females) and 19 controls (8 males and 11 females) matched by age (18-31 years). ABP monitoring was used to estimate blood pressure (BP) over a 24-h period. Results: No difference was noted between patients and controls in terms of systolic BP (males, 115.5 ± 5.6 vs. 117.0 ± 9.3, P = 0.733; and females, 106.4 ± 7.9 vs. 108.4 ± 7.6, P = 0.556, respectively) and diastolic BP during 24 h (males, 62.8 ± 7.5 vs. 66.2 ± 5.6, P = 0.349; and females, 62.7 ± 4.9 vs. 62.3 ± 4.9, P = 0.818, respectively). Systolic and diastolic BP and pulse pressure during daytime and nocturnal periods were similar between patients and controls. Furthermore, no differences were detected in the percentage of load and impaired nocturnal dipping of systolic and diastolic BP between patients and controls during the 24-h period. Additionally, the glucocorticoid dose (varying between r = −0.24 to 0.13, P > 0.05) and androgens levels (varying between r = 0.01 to 0.14, P > 0.05) were not associated with ABP parameters. Conclusion: No signs of an elevated risk for hypertension were observed based on ABP monitoring in young adults with CAH attributed to 21OHase deficiency undergoing glucocorticoid replacement therapy.

ABSTRACT Isoflavonoid composition of freshly harvested soy sprouts of six cultivars grown in Colombia was analyzed. Evaluations on the effect of storage time at 12 °C and exogenous application of the elicitor 2,6-dichloro isonicotinic acid (INA) were carried out to establish their influence in the ability of soy sprouts for synthesizing isoflavonoids. In addition, elicited and non-elicited sprouts of soy cultivar Soy SK-7 was assessed for total phenolic content and antioxidant activity according to the growth stage (VE, VC, and V1) and tissues (cotyledon-epicotyl and hypocotyl-root). Isoflavonoid content and antioxidant capacity were dependent on the cultivar, growth stage, tissue, and storage time at 12 °C. Growth stages VE and V1 and the hypocotyl-root exhibited the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. In general, 6”-O-malonylgenistin, daidzin and genistin were the major constituents in the cultivars. Soy SK-7 and Panorama 358 displayed the highest amounts of 6”-O-malonylgenistin (155.9 µg/g) and daidzin (83.5 µg/g), respectively. Results showed that the isoflavonoids and phenolic contents and antioxidant activity were significantly increased by application of INA. This information can be useful to produce soybean sprouts with increased amounts of bioactive compounds and improved response to abiotic and biotic stresses.

Abstract Introduction Ménière disease (MD) affects the inner ear, comprising the cochlea and semicircular canals. Symptoms include severe incapacitating vertigo, nausea, vomit, aural fullness, and sensorineural hearing loss – in which speech discrimination and intelligibility are impaired and can be quantified with speech audiometry. Objective To investigate the influence of the stimuli presentation level in speech audiometry and the quality of life in adults with and without a diagnosis of MD. Method Two groups were formed with nine individuals each – one with and the other without MD. The Speech Recognition Percentage Index was researched with stimuli presented above the self-reported comfort level or 5 dB below the discomfort level. Dizziness Handicap and Tinnitus Handicap Inventories were administered to individuals with tinnitus and vertigo complaints. Results Speech recognition was better in the study group with higher presentation levels, as 75% of the sample improved their performance. The presence of vertigo significantly impacted the quality of life of individuals in the study group. Conclusion Speech recognition improves with higher presentation levels. Also, MD impacts the quality of life, especially regarding limitations caused by vertigo.

Abstract The objective of this work was to determine the genetic diversity, yield, and fruit quality of persimmon genotypes grown in the tropics, in order to select promising genetic materials. DNA extraction was performed on young leaves of 19 persimmon genotypes. For pomological characterization, 15 genotypes were selected. From each genotype, 50 fruit at the physiological maturity stage were harvested in the morning, in order to determine the following parameters: physicochemical characteristics; and the productive variables number of fruit per plant, average fruit fresh mass, average yield, and estimated average yield in two seasons. Twenty SSR markers were tested, out of which 12 were selected to evaluate genetic similarity, which allowed of the identification of distinct groups. The mean genetic diversity value found was 0.41, which is an indicative of low diversity among the analyzed persimmon genotypes. The 'Guiombo', 'Iapar 125', 'Kakimel', 'Mikado RJ', 'Rama Forte Tardio', and 'Taubaté' genotypes show a high yield. The genotypes classified as pollination-constant astringent ('Pomelo', 'Regina', 'Rubi', and 'Taubaté') and those classified as pollination-variant astringent ('Rama Forte', 'Guiombo', and 'Cereja') are potential materials for selection and genetic breeding programs due to their excellent fruit physicochemical characteristics. The investigation through molecular markers is an efficient approach to study the genetic diversity of persimmon genotypes grown in the tropics.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a diversidade genética, o rendimento e a qualidade de frutos de genótipos de caquizeiros cultivados nos trópicos, para selecionar materiais genéticos promissores. A extração de DNA foi realizada em folhas jovens de 19 genótipos de caqui. Para a caracterização pomológica, foram selecionados 15 genótipos. Para cada genótipo, 50 frutos foram colhidos pela manhã, no estágio de maturidade fisiológica, para determinar os seguintes parâmetros: características físico-químicas; e as variáveis produtivas número de frutos por planta, massa de matéria fresca média dos frutos, produtividade média e produtividade média estimada, em duas safras. Vinte marcadores SSR foram testados, dos quais 12 foram selecionados para avaliar a similaridade genética, o que permitiu a identificação de grupos distintos. O valor médio de diversidade genética encontrado foi 0,41, o que é indicativo de baixa diversidade entre os genótipos de caqui analisados. Os genótipos 'Guiombo', 'Iapar 125', 'Kakimel', 'Mikado RJ', 'Rama Forte Tardio' e 'Taubaté' apresentam alta produtividade. Os genótipos classificados como sendo de polinização constante adstringente ('Pomelo', 'Regina', 'Rubi' e 'Taubaté') e os classificados como sendo de polinização variante adstringente ('Rama Forte', 'Guiombo' e 'Cereja') são materiais com potencial para uso em programas de seleção e melhoramento genético, devido às suas excelentes características físico-químicas de fruta. A investigação por meio de marcadores moleculares é uma abordagem eficiente para estudar a diversidade genética de genótipos de caquizeiro cultivados nos trópicos.

RESUMO Objetivo Comparar as habilidades auditivas centrais de mulheres no climatério, com e sem terapia de reposição hormonal. Métodos Estudo observacional, realizado com mulheres no climatério, divididas em dois grupos, segundo o uso ou não de terapia hormonal. Foram realizados os testes de Localização Sonora em cinco direções; Memória Sequencial para Sons Verbais e Não Verbais; Padrão de Duração; Random Gap Detection Test (RGDT); Masking Level Difference (MLD); Dicótico de Dígitos; Fala Com Ruído Branco, e aplicado o Questionário Avaliação Informal de Fadiga. Resultados Houve diferença tendenciosa de melhor desempenho médio no grupo com terapia hormonal, em comparação ao grupo sem terapia para o teste de Memória para Sons Não Verbais. Nos testes de Localização Sonora, Memória para Sons Verbais, RGDT e MLD, o grupo com terapia hormonal apresentou resultados quantitativamente melhores. O grupo com terapia hormonal demonstrou maior porcentagem de mulheres com alto nível de fadiga. Conclusão Mulheres no climatério, com e sem terapia hormonal, apresentam transtorno de processamento auditivo central envolvendo as habilidades auditivas de localização sonora, ordenação temporal simples e complexa, figura-fundo, resolução temporal e interação binaural. ABSTRACT Purpose To compare the central auditory abilities of climacteric women, with and without hormone replacement therapy. Methods Observational study, performed with climacteric women with and without hormone replacement therapy. Resumo O objetivo desta revisão integrativa foi identificar se os scaffolds alternativos utilizados em endodontia regenerativa contribuem para um melhor desenvolvimento radicular, em relação ao aumento do comprimento e espessura das paredes da dentina, em comparação com os scaffolds de coágulo sanguíneo (BC). A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO e Lilacs, utilizando descritores relacionados ao tema. Após a aplicação dos critérios de elegibilidade, 11 artigos foram selecionados e analisados de acordo com o objetivo proposto. Cinco estudos clínicos e seis in vivo, realizados em animais, compararam diferentes tipos de scaffolds alternativos com BCs, com ênfase no plasma rico em plaquetas (PRP) e fibrina rica em plaquetas (PRF). Todos os scaffolds, alternativos ou BC, promoveram um aumento no comprimento da raiz e na espessura da parede dentinária, com percentuais variáveis de aumento entre os estudos. Em geral, houve um aumento significativo do comprimento da raiz e da espessura da dentina promovido pelos scaffolds PRF e PRP, em comparação com a BC. Concluiu-se que a maioria dos scaffolds testados contribuiu para o aumento do comprimento das raízes e da espessura das paredes dentinárias, com ênfase em PRF e PRP.

Abstract The aim of this integrative review was to identify whether alternative scaffolds used in regenerative endodontics contribute to better root development, in relation to the increase in root length and thickness of dentin walls, compared with blood clot (BC) scaffolds. The literature search was conducted in PubMed, SciELO and Lilacs databases, using descriptors related to the topic. After applying the eligibility criteria, 11 articles were selected and analyzed according to the proposed aim. Five clinical and six in vivo studies, conducted in animals, compared different types of alternative scaffolds with BCs, with emphasis on platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). All scaffolds, alternative or BC, promoted an increase in root length and dentin wall thickness, with varying percentages of increase between studies. In general, there was a significant increase in root length and dentin thickness promoted by PRF and PRP scaffolds, compared with BC. It was concluded that the majority of the scaffolds tested contributed to the increase in root length and thickness of dentin walls, with emphasis on PRF and PRP.

Resumo Este trabalho tem como objetivo contribuir para o conhecimento taxonômico do gênero Justicia no estado do Pará, Amazônia, Brasil. O estudo foi baseado em material de importantes herbários nacionais e internacionais, além daqueles provenientes de expedições de coleta em diferentes tipos de vegetação encontrados no estado e do cultivo de espécimes coletados pelo primeiro autor. Foram registradas 25 espécies de Justicia para o estado do Pará: J. asclepiadea, J. birae, J. calycina, J. carajensis, J. cayennensis, J. comata, J. distichophylla, J. divergens, J. gendarussa, J. laevilinguis, J. mcdadeana, J. montealegrensis, J. multiglandulosa, J. oldemanii, J. oriximinensis, J. paraensis, J. pectoralis, J. polystachya, J. potamogeton, J. pseudoamazonica, J. riedeliana, J. secunda, J. sphaerosperma, J. sprucei, J. yurimaguensis. Destas cinco são novos registros para o estado do Pará (J. asclepiadea, J. cayennensis, J. gendarussa, J. oldemanii e J. yurimaguensis), além disso, estão sendo lectotipificados sete nomes aceitos de Justicia e um nome novo é proposto: J. oriximinensis. São apresentadas chave de identificação das espécies, descrições morfológicas detalhadas (incluindo análise das sementes), informações sobre distribuição geográfica e habitat, comentários taxonômicos e ilustrações.

Abstract The taxonomic knowledge for genus Justicia in the Amazonian state of Pará, Brazil, is updated. The study was based on material from important national and international herbaria, as well as specimens collected in different vegetation types within the state, some of them kept under cultivation by the first author. Twenty five species of Justicia were recorded for Pará: J. asclepiadea, J. birae, J. calycina, J. carajensis, J. cayennensis, J. comata, J. distichophylla, J. divergens, J. gendarussa, J. laevilinguis, J. mcdadeana, J. montealegrensis, J. multiglandulosa, J. oldemanii, J. oriximinensis, J. paraensis, J. pectoralis, J. polystachya, J. potamogeton, J. pseudoamazonica, J. riedeliana, J. secunda, J. sphaerosperma, J. sprucei, J. yurimaguensis. Among these, five are new records for the state of Pará (J. asclepiadea, J. cayennensis, J. gendarussa, J. oldemanii, and J. yurimaguensis). Moreover, seven of the accepted names are lectotypified and a new name (J. oriximinensis) is proposed. A species identification key is presented alongside detailed morphological descriptions (including seed analysis), distribution and habitat information, taxonomic comments and illustrations.

Abstract Introduction: Traumatic brain injury can impair the central auditory pathways and auditory cortex. Hence, individuals who suffered a traumatic brain injury may be at risk of central auditory processing disorders, which can be identified with behavioral tests that assess central auditory function. Objective: To characterize and compare the performance of children and adolescents with and without a history of traumatic brain injury in behavioral tests that assess central auditory processing. Method: The sample comprised 8- to 18-year-old individuals of both sexes who suffered moderate or severe closed traumatic brain injury 3 to 24 months before their participation in the study and whose hearing thresholds were normal. These individuals were matched for sex and age with other subjects without a history of traumatic brain injury and submitted to behavioral assessment of the central auditory processing with special tests to assess hearing skills (namely, auditory closure, figure-ground, and temporal processing), selected according to their chronological age and response-ability. Results: The study group performed statistically worse than the comparison group in auditory closure, figure-ground in verbal dichotic listening, and temporal ordering. The central auditory processing tests with abnormal results in the comparison group were different from those in the study group. Conclusion: Central auditory processing disorders were identified in all subjects of the study group, especially involving auditory closure and temporal processing skills, in comparison with subjects without a history of traumatic brain injury.

The analysis period was from March 15th (the start of the alarm state) until April 22nd, 2020. Incidence and mortality rates were the main response variables. The magnitude of the associations has been estimated using the Spearman correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results Incidence and mortality rates at the time of decree of alarm status are associated with current incidence, mortality and hospital demand rates. Higher mean temperatures are significantly associated with a lower current incidence of COVID-19 in the autonomous communities. Likewise, a higher proportion of older people in nursing homes is significantly associated with a higher current mortality in the autonomous communities. Conclusion It is possible to predict the evolution of the epidemic through the analysis of incidence and mortality. Lower temperatures and the proportion of older people in residences are factors associated with a worse prognosis. These parameters must be considered in decisions about the timing and intensity of the implementation of containment measures. In this sense, strengthening epidemiological surveillance is essential to improve predictions.

Abstract Introduction Dysphonia is an oral communication disorder. The voice and hearing are interrelated aspects. Hearing is an important sensory input for monitoring the vocal pattern. The relation between hearing abilities and dysphonia represents a contribution both in scientific and in clinical terms, especially in cases in which satisfactory results are not achieved in the therapeutic process. Objective To characterize long-latency auditory evoked potential (P300) with tonal and complex stimuli, and to make a behavioral evaluation of auditory processing in adults with behavioral dysphonia. Method The sample used for the present study consisted of 20 subjects from both genders with ages ranging from 18 and 58, who were diagnosed with behavioral dysphonia. The evaluations occurred in a single 2-hour session, in which the procedures of clinical history, pure tone and speech audiometries, acoustic immittance measures, and behavioral and electrophysiological evaluations of auditory processing were performed. Results The descriptive measures of P3 latency elicited by tonal and complex stimuli showed similar results for the right and left ears, without statistically significant differences. In the qualitative analysis, the results observed were within the normality patterns for the P3 component for both tonal and complex stimuli. As for the behavioral evaluation of auditory processing, abnormal results were observed in 100% of the sample. Abnormalities were found in the auditory skills of ordering and temporal resolution and figure-background obtained from the duration pattern, random gap detection, and dichotic tests (syllables and words), respectively. Conclusion The evaluated patients presented central auditory processing disorder, evidenced by behavioral assessment.

In addition, a relative fatality index has been created. Data are from international organizations. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to estimate the magnitude of the associations. Results Number of tests and of medical professionals are associated with a higher incidence rate. Mortality and case fatality rate are not associated with demographic, health expenditure, or health services variables. Conclusion Differences suggest a general underestimation of the magnitude of the epidemic. Improvement of case identification and effectiveness of epidemiological surveillance systems is necessary.

RESUMO Objetivo: identificar a percepção subjetiva por meio da Escala de Funcionamento Auditivo após um programa de treinamento auditivo acusticamente controlado. Métodos: participaram deste estudo 23 indivíduos de ambos os sexos, na faixa etária de 6 a 15 anos. Critérios de inclusão: apresentar limiares auditivos menores do que 20 dBNA entre 250 e 8000 Hz, timpanometria com curvas tipo A e diagnóstico de transtorno de processamento auditivo central confirmado por testes comportamentais com indicação de treinamento auditivo acusticamente controlado. O treinamento auditivo acusticamente controlado foi realizado em dez sessões com duração de uma hora cada. Foram utilizados testes auditivos apresentados em condições de escuta progressivamente adversas. Na primeira e na última sessão do treinamento auditivo acusticamente controlado os indivíduos foram submetidos à aplicação da Escala de Funcionamento Auditivo - SAB. Foram aplicados os testes estatísticos apropriados, considerando-se valor de p menor que 0,05. Resultados: as questões Q1, Q2, Q4, Q7, Q8 e Q11 demonstraram resultados estatisticamente significantes, evidenciando melhora dos comportamentos após o treinamento auditivo acusticamente controlado. Já as questões Q3 e Q10 apresentaram tendência á significância e a pontuação total no momento pós aumentou em relação ao momento pré, demonstrando diferença estatisticamente significante representando uma redução nas queixas. Conclusão: a percepção subjetiva do indivíduo e de seus familiares foi passível de ser identificada pela aplicação da Escala de Funcionamento Auditivo no pré e pós Treinamento Auditivo Acusticamente Contolado, revelando melhora dos comportamentos auditivos e de atenção.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to identify the Scale of Auditory Behaviors perception after an acoustically controlled auditory training program. Methods: 23 individuals of both genders, aged 6 to 15 years, participated in this study. Inclusion criteria: to present auditory thresholds lower than 20 dBHL between 250 and 8000Hz, type A tympanometry and diagnosis of central auditory processing disorder confirmed by behavioral tests with indication of acoustically controlled auditory training which was performed in ten one-hour sessions. Hearing tests in progressively adverse listening conditions were used. In the first and last session of the acoustically controlled auditory training program, the individuals were submitted to the Scale of Auditory Behaviors. The appropriate statistical tests were applied considering a p-value less than 0.05. Results: questions Q1, Q2, Q4, Q7, Q8 and Q11 showed statistically significant results and improvement in behaviors after the acoustically controlled auditory training. On the other hand, questions Q3 and Q10 showed a tendency towards significance and the total score in the post time period increased in relation to the pre-moment, pointing to a statistically significant difference that represents complaint reductions. Conclusion: the subjective perception of the individuals and their family members could be identified by the application of SAB in the pre and post auditory training, revealing an improvement in auditory and attention behaviors.

Abstract Introduction The auditory structures of the brainstem are involved in binaural interaction, which contributes to sound location and auditory figure-background perception. Objective To investigate the performance of young adults in the masking level difference (MLD) test, brainstem auditory-evoked potentials (BAEPs) with click stimulus, and frequency-following response (FFR), as well as to verify the correlation between the findings, considering the topographic origin of the components of these procedures. Methods A total of 20 female subjects between 18 and 30 years of age, with normal hearing and no complaints concerning central auditory processing underwent a basic audiological evaluation, as well as the MLD test, BAEP and FFR. Results The mean result on the MLD test was of 10.70 dB. There was a statistically significant difference in the absolute latencies of waves I, III and V in the BAEPs of the ears. A change in the FFR characterized by the absence of the C, E and F waves was noticed. There was a statistically significant difference in the positive correlation of wave V in the BAEPs with the MLD. There was a statistically significant difference in the positive correlation of the mean MLD and the V, A and F components of the FFR. Conclusion The mean MLD was adequate. In the BAEPs, we observed that the click stimulus transmission occurred faster in the right ear. The FFR showed absence of some components. The mean MLD correlated positively with the BAEPs and FFR.
