Abstract In the context of the 50th anniversary of its publication, this article examines Raymond Williams’ The country and the city under two key aspects. On the one hand, we attempt to explain the uses and meanings of “structure of feeling”, which organizes the book’s argument as a kind of analytical tool. On the other hand, we will discuss the frequent autobiographical passages that reinforce the reflective and political tone of this work.

Resumo Aproveitando a efeméride dos cinquenta anos da publicação de O campo e a cidade, este artigo examina o livro de Raymond Williams sob dois aspectos principais. De um lado, pretendemos elucidar os usos e significados da noção “estrutura de sentimento”, que nesse trabalho organiza toda a argumentação, como uma espécie de operador analítico; de outro, discutimos as frequentes referências autobiográficas, que reforçam seu tom reflexivo e político.

Abstract Somatic characters are shared by many Chelodesmidae groups, and generic placement and species identifications traditionally have been based on gonopodal morphology. Female genitalic characters have been largely neglected and are rarely photographed or illustrated. This is rather unfortunate as the morphology of female genitalia presents important characters and may be decisive for developing a more robust family classification. We describe the heretofore unknown female of Sandalodesmus araujoi (Schubart, 1946), previously known only from the male holotype collected in São Paulo, Brazil in December 1943; discuss the utility of female genitalic characters for species delineation in Sandalodesmus; and report the first case of a mass occurrence in the Chelodesmidae. While an attempt at a formal diagnosis of Sandalodesmus females based on genitalic characters is premature, the vulvar morphology of the three taxa examined in this study suggests that female genitalia are species-specific. Some characters (i.e., asymmetric valves, presence of digitiform projections and reduction of setae on the internal basal portion of the valves) are constant between the species, suggesting utility for generic-level delineation. Mass occurrences of millipedes are typically unpredictable and likely related to variations in environmental conditions and/or anthropogenic modifications of natural habitats. Although the mass occurrence of S. araujoi reported herein was only observed once, the event coincides with the mating period of millipedes during the rainy season in Brazil. On the other hand, the region where the species was found has been the target of intense urban development, including replacement of natural habitats with residential areas, which may have influenced its population dynamics.

Resumo Os caracteres somáticos são compartilhados por muitos grupos de Chelodesmidae, e o posicionamento genérico e as identificações de espécies tradicionalmente têm sido baseadas na morfologia do gonópodo. Carateres genitais das fêmeas foram amplamente negligenciados e raramente são fotografados ou ilustrados. Isso é lamentável, pois a morfologia da genitália feminina apresenta características importantes e pode ser decisiva para o desenvolvimento de uma classificação mais robusta. Neste trabalho, descrevemos a até então desconhecida fêmea de Sandalodesmus araujoi (Schubart, 1946), anteriormente conhecida apenas pelo holótipo macho coletado em São Paulo, Brasil, em dezembro de 1943; discutimos a utilidade de caracteres genitais femininos para delineamento de espécies em Sandalodesmus; e relatamos o primeiro caso de ocorrência em massa para Chelodesmidae. Embora uma tentativa de diagnose formal para fêmeas de Sandalodesmus com base em caracteres genitais seja prematura, a morfologia vulvar dos três táxons examinados neste estudo, sugere que a genitália feminina é espécie-específica. Alguns caracteres (e.g. válvulas assimétricas, presença de projeções digitiformes e redução de cerdas na margem interna das válvas) são constantes entre as espécies do gênero, sugerindo utilidade para delineamento em nível genérico. Ocorrências em massa de milípedes são tipicamente imprevisíveis e provavelmente relacionadas a variações nas condições ambientais e/ou modificações antropogênicas de habitats naturais. Embora a ocorrência em massa de S. araujoi aqui relatada tenha sido observada apenas uma vez, o evento coincide com o período de reprodução dos milípedes durante a estação chuvosa no Brasil. Por outro lado, a região onde a espécie foi encontrada tem sido alvo de intenso desenvolvimento urbano, incluindo substituição de habitats naturais por áreas residenciais, o que pode ter influenciado sua dinâmica populacional.

ABSTRACT Objective To verify the association of changes on physical activity levels during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak of individuals with normal weight and overweight/obesity, and the influence of sex in this relationship. Methods This cross-sectional study (survey research) was conducted in Brazil between May 5 and May 17, 2020. Participants (n=1,828 / 1,062 women >18 years) were invited through social media to answer a structured questionnaire via Google Forms. The online assessment included self-reported responses to questions on physical activity, overall health, weight, and height. Binary logistic regression analyzed the relationship between overweight/obesity (body mass index ≥25kg/m2), the impact of COVID-19 on physical activity level, and the influence of sex. Results Compared to normal weight people, those with overweight/obesity practice less moderate to vigorous physical activity (p<0.001). There were associations between women and men with overweight/obesity and the impact of COVID-19 on the physical activity practice compared to normal weight people, adjusted by age, education level, social isolation, and previous physical activity level (p<0.017). Conclusion The study found an association of weight and changes in physical activity levels. Individuals with overweight/obesity were more likely to have a lower physical activity level during COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of sex.

ABSTRACT This study concerns the millipede genus Leptherpum Attems, 1931, which contains nine valid species distributed across the Amazonian rainforest of northeastern South America. The type species L. carinovatum (Attems, 1898) is reexamined based on the type material and high-resolution photographs, including the first scanning electron micrographs of this species. The following three new species are described: Leptherpum tialaura sp. nov. from the state of Pará, Brazil; Leptherpum battirolai sp. nov. from the state of Amazonas, Brazil; and Leptherpum buenovillegasi sp. nov. from the commune of Maripasoula, French Guiana. A brief review of Leptherpum taxonomy and geographic distribution is provided, along with a key to males.

Resumo O objetivo principal deste artigo é discutir a dimensão política de Raízes do Brasil, objeto de debate recente. Abordamos esse problema por meio de uma reconstrução sucinta da trajetória de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, que teria, possivelmente, condicionado seu posicionamento. Entendemos que Sérgio Buarque não fixou em Raízes do Brasil uma mensagem política unívoca e sugerimos que o livro conteria um argumento central com desfecho ambíguo, cuja gênese teria relação com a ambivalência da origem social e geográfica de seu autor.

Abstract This study primary goal is to discuss the political dimension of Raízes do Brasil (Roots of Brazil), a subject of recent controversy. Such issue is approached through a brief reconstruction of the trajectory of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, which might have had shaped his position. We understand that Sérgio Buarque did not fix a univocal political message in Raízes do Brasil, suggesting that the work contains a central argument with an ambiguous outcome whose genesis would be related to the ambivalence of the social and geographic origin of the author.

Abstract: In this article we defend the hypothesis that the transformation of the practices and working styles of Mexican sociology in the 1950s was conditioned by an alteration in the social recruitment of its practitioners and their career patterns. To this end we collected pertinent biographical information (social origin, academic training, professional performance and intellectual production) on the directors and professors of the National School of Political and Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico during the period between 1951 and 1970.

Resumen: En este artículo defendemos la hipótesis de que la transformación de las prácticas y estilos de trabajo de la sociología mexicana en la década de 1950 estuvo condicionada por una alteración en el reclutamiento social de sus practicantes y en sus patrones de carrera. Para tal fin, se reúne información biográfica pertinente (origen social, formación escolar, desempeño profesional y producción intelectual) de los directores y profesores de la Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México en el periodo comprendido entre 1951 y 1970.

Resumo A tripanossomíase, causada por Trypanosoma vivax, é responsável por grandes perdas econômicas na bovinocultura da África e da América do Sul. Durante seu ciclo de vida, o parasita pode apresentar diferentes características morfológicas, metabólicas e fisiológicas em função das interações que ele encontra em cada ponto do seu ciclo. Embora o T. vivax seja reportado, frequentemente, na circulação dos seus hospedeiros mamíferos, o protozoário tem a capacidade de migrar para os tecidos desses indivíduos. Entretanto, essa característica é pobremente conhecida. Neste contexto, o objetivo foi verificar a presença, assim como as alterações causadas pelo T. vivax nos diferentes tecidos de caprinos experimentalmente infectados. Apesar dos animais não terem sido perfundidos antes da coleta dos tecidos, utilizando-se diferentes abordagens, foi evidenciada a presença do T. vivax em diferentes amostras teciduais, incluindo no tecido adiposo e pele dos animais infectados. Além disso, foi observada reação inflamatória mononuclear, caracterizada majoritariamente por infiltrado de linfócitos, plasmócitos e macrófagos. Os resultados evidenciam a possibilidade de que, assim como outros tripanossomatídeos, T. vivax pode usar esses tecidos durante o seu ciclo de vida. São necessários futuros estudos, objetivando elucidar o período em que o T. vivax permanece ativo nesses sítios, se ele utiliza esses locais como refúgio das drogas tripanocidas, e se ele é capaz de recolonizar a circulação sanguínea.

Abstract Trypanosomiasis, caused by Trypanosoma vivax, is responsible for great economic losses among livestock in Africa and South America. During the life cycle of these parasites, they may present different morphological, metabolic and physiological characteristics depending on the interactions that are encountered at each point of their life cycle. Although T. vivax is frequently reported in the circulation of its mammalian hosts, it has the ability to migrate to the tissues of these individuals. However, this characteristic is poorly understood. In this context, we aimed to investigate the presence of T. vivax and the changes caused in different tissues of experimentally infected goats. Despite the animals were not perfused before tissues collection, using different approaches, we demonstrated its presence in different samples, including in the adipose tissue and skin of infected animals. In addition, a mononuclear inflammatory reaction, mostly characterized by an infiltrate of lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages were observed. The results highlight the possibility that, like other trypanosomatids, T. vivax may use these tissues during its life cycle. Future studies aiming to elucidate the length of time for which T. vivax remains active in these sites, and whether it uses these sites as a refuge from trypanocidal drugs, and whether it is capable of recolonizing the blood circulation, are much needed.

Resumo Introdução O Ministério da Saúde, pela Política Nacional de Medicamentos, Portaria no 3.916, de 30 de outubro de 1998, reforça a Lei de Genéricos de fevereiro de 1999 (Lei no 9.787, de 10 de fevereiro de 1999, visando, entre outras coisas, reduzir os preços e facilitar o acesso aos medicamentos para a população). Objetivo Identificar o nível de conhecimento da população em relação aos medicamentos genéricos. Método Estudo descritivo, quantitativo, com 520 usuários entrevistados em quatro unidades de saúde que implementaram o Programa Saúde da Família e que representam quatro distritos sanitários de saúde em Foz do Iguaçu (PR), Brasil. Resultados A maioria dos entrevistados conhece e/ou já ouviu falar do genérico. Para muitas pessoas, o medicamento genérico representa apenas um tipo de medicamento mais acessível. Conclusão Achados indicam a necessidade de educação em saúde para esclarecer a população, para que possam identificar e adquirir seus medicamentos com segurança e confiança.

Abstract Background The Brazilian Ministry of Health, by the National Policy on Medication, Ordinance 3916 from October 30th 1998, reinforces the Law of Generics of February 1999 (Law No. 9787 from February 10th, 1999, aiming, among other things, to reduce the prices and make access to medications easier for population). Objective The main objective was to identify the level of knowledge of the population regarding generic drugs. Method Descriptive, quantitative study, with 520 users interviewed in four health care units that implemented the Brazilian Family Health Program. Such units represent four health districts in Foz do Iguaçu, PR, Brazil. Results Most of the interviewed know and/or have heard about generic drugs. For many people, the generic drug represents only a more affordable type of medication. Conclusion The need for health education to clarify the population’s questions was found, so they could identify and acquire their medication safely and with confidence.

ABSTRACT It was evaluated the possibility to produce two seedlings per avocado seed, through the separation of cotyledons. Two seed lots from two different ungrafted trees were evaluated. From the first tree were obtained 60 seeds, and 50 from the second. Half the seeds of each lot had their cotyledons separated and then whole seeds and half-seeds were sown in river sand. At 90 days after sowing, percentage of germinated seeds, shoot height, main root length, fresh and dry mass of shoots, roots and cotyledons were evaluated. From the first lot of seeds, there was 100% germination, both for the whole seeds and for the half-seeds. For all traits evaluated, higher mean values were observed for seedlings formed from whole seeds. In the second lot of seeds, 88% of germination was observed for whole seeds and 82% of germination for half-seeds. In this second lot, there were no significant differences between the seedlings formed from whole seeds and half-seeds for any of the characteristics evaluated, except for fresh and dry mass of cotyledons. Thus, it is possible to produce two seedlings or rootstocks with a single avocado seed, although this may slightly delay the development of the seedlings

Resumo A breve e concentrada correspondência entre Raymond Williams (1921-1988) e Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) comprova a existência de relações concretas, de mão dupla, entre os autores galês e francês, muito sugestivas para se pensar o desenvolvimento da sociologia da cultura europeia na segunda metade do século XX. O objetivo principal deste texto é recensear os contatos que eles mantiveram, além da correspondência, por meio de citações cruzadas, de um seminário em Paris no ano de 1976 e de um texto crítico de Williams em parceria com Nicholas Garnham, publicado em 1980, sobre a obra de Bourdieu, em seguida à publicação de A distinção na França.

Abstract The brief and focused correspondence between Raymond Williams (1921-1988) and Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) proves the existence of actual and mutual relations between the Welsh and French authors, which are worthy of discussion in order to reflect on the development of the European sociology of culture during the second half of the twentieth century. The main purpose of this article is to recover the contacts they had, apart from the correspondence, through crossed citations, a seminar in Paris in 1976 and a critical text by Williams in partnership with Nicholas Garnham, published in 1980, on the work of Bourdieu after La distinction was published in France.

Resumo: O presente estudo centrou-se na avaliação da eficácia da promoção turística do estado de Sergipe, por meio de um comparativo entre os gêneros masculino e feminino. Para tanto, foi utilizado um dos modelos mais recentes referente à eficácia da promoção turística: o Destination Advertising Response (DAR) Model. Esta pesquisa foi difundida por Stienmetz, Maxcy e Fesenmaier (2015) com a finalidade de analisar dados sobre a eficácia de campanhas promocionais por meio do planejamento de viagem e gastos realizados pelos visitantes em seis facetas: passagens, hospedagem, atrativos, refeições, eventos e compras. Foram coletados 384 questionários e, por meio de estatísticas descritivas, foi possível traçar o perfil sociodemográfico e os aspectos relacionados ao planejamento de viagem dos respondentes. Com o uso do teste de comparação de médias para amostras independentes e as análises de regressão múltipla, foi possível identificar que, de modo geral, a promoção turística empreendida tem sido mais eficaz para o público masculino. Homens e mulheres, em geral, demonstraram possuir características bastante semelhantes, destacando-se o fato de que as mulheres são mais influenciadas pela promoção do destino, mesmo tendo um valor médio de gasto total inferior ao do público masculino.

Abstract: This study focused on evaluating the effectiveness of tourism promotion in the state of Sergipe (Brazil), through a comparison between men and women. It uses one of the most recent models regarding the effectiveness of tourism promotion: the Destination Advertising Response (DAR) Model. This research was disseminated by Stienmetz, Maxcy and Fesenmaier (2015) for the purpose of analyzing data on the effectiveness of promotional campaigns through travel planning and spending by visitors in six facets: tickets, accommodation, attractions, restaurants, events and shopping. Data were collected through 384 and, through descriptive statistics, it was possible to trace the sociodemographic profile and aspects related to the respondents’ trip planning. Using the independent sample test t and multiple regression analyses, it was possible to identify that in general, tourism promotion has been more effective for the male target public. Men and women, in general, have shown quite similar characteristics, with women being more influenced by the promotion of destination, even though they have a lower mean total expenditure than males.

Resumen: El presente estudio se centró en la evaluación de la eficacia de la promoción turística del estado de Sergipe, a través de un comparativo entre los géneros masculino y femenino. Para ello, se utilizó uno de los modelos más recientes referente a la eficacia de la promoción turística: el Destination Advertising Response (DAR) Model. Esta investigación fue difundida por Stienmetz, Maxcy y Fesenmaier (2015) con la finalidad de analizar datos sobre la eficacia de campañas promocionales a través de la planificación de viaje y gastos realizados por los visitantes en seis facetas: pasajes, hospedaje, atractivos, comidas, eventos y compras. Se recogieron 384 cuestionarios, donde fue posible trazar el perfil sociodemográfico y aspectos relacionados a la planificación de viaje de los encuestados. Con el uso de la prueba de comparación de medias para muestras independientes, y los análisis de regresión múltiple, fue posible identificar que, en general, la promoción turística emprendida ha sido más eficaz para el público masculino. Los hombres y las mujeres, en general, demostraron poseer características bastante similares, destacándose el hecho de que las mujeres son más influenciadas por la promoción del destino, aun teniendo un valor medio de gasto total inferior al del público masculino.

Resumo Abordaremos neste texto as relações entre o programa de pesquisa em sociologia da arte liderado por Roger Bastide na Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras da Universidade de São Paulo (FFCL-USP), nas décadas de 1940 e 1950, e a tese incompleta de Antonio Candido sobre o cururu. A análise desse material e de seu contexto permite avaliar conexões teóricas e metodológicas entre os autores e flagrar as possíveis disputas em jogo nesse momento em torno da sucessão do sociólogo francês na USP por seus discípulos e discípulas paulistas.

Abstract In this text, we will discuss the relations between the research program in sociology of art led by Roger Bastide in the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FFCL-USP) in the 1940s and 1950s, and the incomplete thesis Antonio Candido on the cururu. The analysis of this material and its context allows us to evaluate theoretical and methodological connections between the authors and to pinpoint the possible disputes in play at that moment around the succession of the French sociologist at USP by his disciples from São Paulo.

Resumen En este texto, las relaciones entre el programa de investigación en sociología del arte liderado por Roger Bastide en la Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias Humanas de la Universidad de São Paulo (FFCL-USP), en las décadas de 1940 y 1950, y la tesis incompleta de Antonio Candido acerca del cururu. El análisis de este material y de su contexto permite evaluar conexiones teóricas y metodológicas entre los autores y flagrar las posibles disputas en juego en ese momento en torno a la sucesión del sociólogo francés en la USP por sus discípulos paulistas.

Resumo Os objetivos neste estudo foram descrever ocorrências do nematódeo Rhabditis spp., causando otite parasitária em bovinos leiteiros da raça Gir no estado do Espírito Santo, sudeste do Brasil, e avaliar o controle biológico desse nematódeo utilizando os fungos nematófagos Duddingtonia flagrans (AC001) e Monacrosporium thaumasium (NF34). Após a detecção e coleta dos nematódeos, três grupos foram formados: dois grupos que foram tratados com os isolados fúngicos, respectivamente; e um grupo controle, sem fungos. Os tratamentos foram os seguintes: (a) placas de Petri contendo o meio de cultura 2% ágar de água (WA) + 250 nematoides + AC001; (b) placas de Petri contendo 2% de WA + 250 nematoides + NF34; e (c) placas de contendo apenas 2% de nematódeos WA + 250. Após sete dias a 27 °C os tratamentos com fungos foram capazes de capturar e destruir os nematódeos, com porcentagens de 82,0% (AC001) e 39,0% (NF34) em relação ao grupo controle. Os resultados demonstram a ocorrência de Rhabditis spp., no Estado do Espírito Santo e a eficácia da atividade predatória in vitro dos isolados fúngicos utilizados. Assim, esses resultados são importantes, pois podem auxiliar no controle alternativo in vivo de Rhabditis spp. em bovinos com otite parasitária.

Abstract The objectives of this study were to describe occurrences of Rhabditis spp. causing parasitic otitis in dairy cattle of Gir breed in the state of Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil, and to evaluate the biological control of this nematode using the nematophagous fungi Duddingtonia flagrans (AC001) and Monacrosporium thaumasium (NF34). After nematode detection and collection, three groups were formed: two groups that were treated, respectively, with the fungal isolates; and a control group, without fungus. The treatments were as follows: (a) Petri dishes containing the culture medium 2% water agar (WA) + 250 nematodes + AC001; (b) Petri dishes containing 2% WA + 250 nematodes + NF34; and (c) Petri dishes containing only 2% WA + 250 nematodes. After seven days at 27 °C the treatments with fungi were able to capture and destroy the nematodes, with percentages of 82.0% (AC001) and 39.0% (NF34) in relation to the control group. The results demonstrate the occurrence of Rhabditis spp. after animals physical examination and that there was efficacy of the in vitro predatory activity of both fungal isolates. Thus, these results are important because they can assist in future in vivo control of this nematode in cattle.

RESUMO O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a influência do manejo em cultivos de fruteiras (Mangueiras, goiabeiras e de coqueiros) na composição e distribuição dos artrópodes de solo (mesofauna e macrofauna) nos períodos sazonais da região do Vale do Curu, Ceará. O estudo foi realizado nos períodos chuvoso/seco (julho/agosto 2013), seco (outubro/novembro 2013), seco/chuvoso (janeiro/fevereiro 2014) e chuvoso (abril/maio 2014). Na captura dos artrópodes foram utilizadas armadilhas "pitfall". Após a triagem, foram calculados os índices de diversidade de Shannon-Wiener e de uniformidade de Pielou. Os valores de diversidade foram comparados, dois a dois, através do teste t-studant (α = 0,05) com o Software SAS versão 9.0 (2002). A similaridade das áreas e de grupos foi avaliada com análise multivariada empregando técnica de componentes principais (ACP) e de análises de fatores (AF) com o Software Statistica® (2014). A abundância e a diversidade dos artrópodes de solo em cultivo de fruteiras, variam em função dos manejos e com o período sazonal da região. Os grupos Acari, Collembola e Formicidae foram os mais abundantes nas áreas e nos quatro períodos do estudo. A área cultivada com coqueiros apresenta melhores condições edáficas para a manutenção da comunidade dos artrópodes de solo.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of fruit-crop management (mango, guava and coconut) on the composition and distribution of soil arthropods (mesofauna and macrofauna) during seasonal periods in the Curu Valley region of the State of Ceará, Brazil. The study was carried out during the following periods: rainy/dry (July/August 2013), dry (October/ November 2013), dry/rainy (January/February 2014) and rainy (April/May 2014). Pitfall traps were used to capture the arthropods. After sorting, the Shannon-Wiener diversity index and the Pielou evenness index were calculated. Diversity values were compared in pairs using Student's t-test (α = 0.05) in the SAS v 9.0 software (2002). The similarity of the areas and groups was evaluated by multivariate analysis employing the techniques of principal component (PCA) and factor (FA) analysis in the Statistica® software (2014). The abundance and diversity of soil arthropods in the cultivation of fruit trees vary according to the type of management and to the seasonal period in the region. The Acari, Collembola and Formicidae groups were the most abundant in each area and during the four periods of the study. The area cultivated with coconut shows better soil conditions for maintaining the arthropod community in the soil.
