ABSTRACT Soil management systems, including tillage and green manuring, are important for the control of nematodes and for the sustainable production. The objective was to select, through multivariate analysis, sustainable agroecosystems for yellow melon cultivated under irrigated conditions in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The long-term experiment is set up in Argissolo Vermelho- Amarelo (Ultisol) with six multifunctional agroecosystems, composed of the combination of three mixtures of cover crops (1 - 75% legumes + 25% grasses and oilseeds; 2 - 25% legumes + 75% grasses and oilseeds and 3 - spontaneous vegetation) and two types of soil management (no tillage-NT and tillage-T). The purpose was to evaluate the nutritional status of plants, soil fertility, nematode population in roots and soil, and the yield. Data were analyzed with multivariate techniques, allowing the grouping of the agroecosystems based on their similarities and complexity of functions. The incorporation of plant residues to the soil reduces nematode population, but their maintenance on the surface allows the improvement of fertility and yield, even under larger nematode populations. The agroecosystems that associate the nonincorporation of residues from cover crops with larger species diversity in composition constitute the most complex model, allowing different environmental functionalities. Thus, it is recommended not to incorporate the plant residues, planting the melon seedlings directly in the straw. However, considering that the results obtained with the non-incorporation of spontaneous vegetation were similar to those obtained with the incorporation of commercial cover crops, it is concluded that this practice is also viable and adapted to the semi-arid conditions.

RESUMO Sistemas de manejo de solos, incluindo revolvimento e adubação verde, são importantes para o controle de nematoides e para a produção sustentável. Objetivou-se selecionar, por meio da análise multivariada, agroecossistemas sustentáveis para cultivo irrigado de melão amarelo no Semiárido brasileiro. As avaliações ocorreram num experimento de longa duração, com seis agroecossistemas multifuncionais, compostos pela combinação de três misturas de plantas de cobertura (1 - 75% leguminosas + 25% gramíneas e oleaginosas; 2 - 25% leguminosas + 75% gramíneas e oleaginosas e 3 - vegetação espontânea) e dois tipos de manejo do solo (sem e com revolvimento). Avaliaram-se o estado nutricional das plantas, a fertilidade do solo, as populações de nematoides nas raízes e no solo e a produtividade da cultura. Os dados foram submetidos às técnicas de análises multivariadas, permitindo agrupar os agroecossistemas por semelhanças e complexidade das suas funções. A incorporação dos resíduos vegetais ao solo reduz a população de nematoides, mas sua manutenção na superfície permite melhorar a fertilidade e alcançar boas produtividades, mesmo sob maior população de nematoides. Os agroecossistemas que associam o não revolvimento dos resíduos vegetais das plantas de cobertura com maior diversidade de espécies na composição é o modelo considerado mais complexo, permitindo diferentes funcionalidades ambientais. Assim, recomenda-se não incorporar os resíduos vegetais, transplantando as mudas de meloeiro diretamente sobre a palhada. No entanto, considerando que os resultados obtidos com a não incorporação da vegetação espontânea foram semelhantes à incorporação das plantas de cobertura comerciais, conclui-se que esta prática também é viável e adaptada às condições semiáridas.

ABSTRACT Children have an increased likelihood of becoming carriers of the chronic hepatitis B virus. A total of 1,381 children and adolescents were assessed in five municipalities of Maranhao State, Brazil, for detection of anti-HBc, HBsAg and anti-HBs serologic markers and sociodemographic and behavioral features. Among those who were HBsAg negative and anti-HBc negative, the proportion of anti-HBs positives was calculated after the individuals had completed the vaccination schedule. The robust variance of the Poisson’s regression model was used in order to have adjusted tables and calculate the prevalence ratio. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with the prevalence of anti-HBc with or without HBsAg and the vaccine response. It was observed that 163 children were anti-HBc positive and nine individuals were HBsAg positive. The factors associated with the infection were: municipality of residence (residing in Morros municipality or Humberto de Campos municipality), residence in a rural area, aged between 13 and 15 years old, and illicit drug use. The percentage of individuals who were anti-HBc negative and received all three doses of the vaccine was 48.5%. Among these, only 276 (38.9%) had antibodies at protective concentrations. In an adjusted analysis, Morros municipality presented an increased positivity of vaccine response (p < 0.001), and the age ranging between 6 and 10 years old presented a reduced frequency of response. This study reveals a high prevalence of current and past HBV infection within the targeted age group which, in addition to the low vaccination coverage and serological responses, raises concerns about the management of prevention measures, especially the quality of vaccination in these locations.

A fluorescent (340/380 nm) photochemical product, identified at m/z 206 by mass spectrometry was obtained by photo-derivatization (15 s ultraviolet exposure) in water/acetonitrile 10/90 v/v. The photoproduct was used for indirect determination of trifloxystrobin in water and soy grape juice by high-performance liquid chromatography and fluorescence detection. Separation was made under isocratic conditions (acetonitrile/water 70/30% v/v, at 1.0 mL min 1 and 35 ºC) with trifloxystrobin photo-derivative eluting at 3.2 min. The influence of ultraviolet exposure was evaluated in short and long terms with photoproduct showing stability up to 120 min after 15 s of ultraviolet exposure. The limit of detection was 57 µg L-1 in water (87-109% recoveries). For soy grape juice, dispersive liquid-liquid micro-extraction was used to clean up and for pre-concentration (limit of detection of 9.5 µg kg 1 and 93-101% recoveries) attending to the maximum residue limits for citrus juices established by regulatory agencies. Potential interference by triazoles was evaluated.

Abstract This article investigates the narratives surrounding the online public debate of gamer communities on Twitter during the political rallies for the bicentennial of Brazilian Independence Day, occurring in September 2022. The analysis is based on two collections conducted between August 31 and September 14, resulting in one corpus of 11,607 interactions made by 4,090 accounts, and another of 59 interactions by 47 accounts. The results reinforce the perception that the event was not a relevant topic in the observed gamer communities, pointing to a possible loss of support by former president Jair Bolsonaro among gamers.

Resumen Este artículo investiga las narrativas que involucran el debate público online de las comunidades gamers de Twitter durante las manifestaciones y movilizaciones políticas del bicentenario de la Independencia de Brasil, celebradas en septiembre de 2022. El análisis se basa en dos colecciones realizadas entre el 31 de agosto y el 14 de septiembre, que componen un corpus de 11.607 interacciones realizadas por 4.090 cuentas, y otro de 59 interacciones por 47 cuentas. Los resultados refuerzan la percepción de que el evento no fue un tema de mucha relevancia dentro de las comunidades gamers observadas, apuntando a un posible vaciamiento del apoyo al ex-presidente de la República, Jair Bolsonaro, entre los gamers.

Resumo Este artigo investiga as narrativas envolvendo o debate público online das comunidades gamers no Twitter durante as manifestações e mobilizações políticas do bicentenário da Independência do Brasil, realizadas em setembro de 2022. A análise se baseia em duas coletas conduzidas entre 31 de agosto e 14 de setembro, compondo um corpus de 11.607 interações realizadas por 4.090 contas, e outro de 59 interações por 47 contas. Os resultados reforçam a percepção de que o evento não foi um tópico de muita relevância dentro das comunidades gamers observadas, apontando para um possível esvaziamento do apoio ao ex-presidente da República, Jair Bolsonaro, entre gamers.

Abstract This paper presents a scoping review on the use of digital technologies for predicting, mapping, or continuously monitoring landslides on natural slopes. Articles and reviews published between 2001 and 2023 indexed by Scopus (Elsevier) were selected. The results showed that the number of publications involving this theme has been growing every year, with two periods of prominence: 2008-2010 and 2015-2021. China, Italy, India, USA and Taiwan are the five countries that published the most on the subject during the studied period. It was also found that remote sensing tools were the most used and showed strong stability, accompanied by artificial intelligence tools. Digital sensors have been widely used in Early Warning Systems, composing Wireless Sensors Network, monitoring terrain or climate variables. There is no doubt that digital technologies are extremely advantageous in relation to traditional technologies and that they already present themselves as a solution and confirm their trend of future consolidation.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar parâmetros hematológicos de crianças desnutridas após intervenção nutricional com farinha da castanha de caju. Métodos Ensaio clínico randomizado, controlado, cego. O estudo foi realizado no período de abril a dezembro de 2017, em duas Unidades Básicas de Saúde. A amostra foi composta de crianças menores de 5 anos que preencheram os critérios de inclusão, sendo 15 no Grupo Intervenção (farinha da castanha de caju) e 15 crianças no Grupo Controle (farinha de carboximetilcelulose), alocadas nos grupos de forma randômica aleatória simples. Foram analisados os parâmetros de eritrócitos, hemoglobina e hematócrito (série vermelha) e de leucócitos, neutrófilos, segmentados, eosinófilos, monócitos e linfócitos (série branca). A coleta de sangue foi realizada em dois momentos: o primeiro antes da implementação da intervenção e o segundo após 32 semanas de utilização da farinha da castanha de caju. Para avaliação da normalidade e homogeneidade da amostra, utilizaram-se os testes de Shapiro-Wilk e de variância de Bartlett, respectivamente. Utilizou-se o teste T pareado dentro de cada grupo e, para avaliar possíveis associações entre os Grupos Intervenção e Controle e o nível de leucócitos (abaixo, normal e acima), utilizaram-se o teste exato de Fisher e/ou o teste Fisher-Freeman-Halton. Resultados Houve incremento na média das células individuais da série vermelha do hemograma, sobretudo nos padrões de hemoglobina de crianças desnutridas do Grupo Intervenção (p<0,05). A investigação também apontou diferença intragrupo no parâmetro da hemoglobina, tanto no Grupo Controle (p=0,007) como no Intervenção (p<0,001), bem como no parâmetro hematócrito para ambos os grupos (p=0,001). Especificamente na série branca, após a intervenção, evidenciou-se diminuição significativa nos leucócitos (p=0,04) e linfócitos (p<0,01) Conclusão Após intervenção, a utilização da farinha da castanha de caju melhorou os parâmetros hematológicos das crianças desnutridas. Abstract Objective To assess hematological parameters of malnourished children after nutritional intervention with cashew nut flour. Methods This is a randomized, controlled, blind trial. The study was conducted from April to December 2017, in two Basic Health Units. The sample consisted of children under 5 years of age who met the inclusion criteria, 15 in the Intervention Group (cashew nut flour) and 15 children in the Control Group (carboxymethylcellulose flour), randomly allocated to the groups. The parameters of erythrocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit (red blood cells) and leukocytes, neutrophils, segmented, eosinophils, monocytes and lymphocytes (white blood cells) parameters were analyzed. Blood collection was performed in two moments: the first before intervention implementation and the second after 32 weeks of use of cashew nut flour. To assess the sample normality and homogeneity, Shapiro-Wilk and Bartlett variance tests were used, respectively. The paired t-test was used within each group and, to assess possible associations between the Intervention and Control Groups and the level of leukocytes (below, normal and above), Fisher’s Exact test and/or Fisher-Freeman-Halton test were used. Results There was an increase in the mean of the individual red blood cell count, especially in the hemoglobin patterns of malnourished children in the Intervention Group (p<0.05). The investigation also showed an intragroup difference in the hemoglobin parameter, both in the Control Group (p=0.007) and in the Intervention (p<0.001) as well as in the hematocrit parameter for both groups (p=0.001). Specifically in the white blood cells, after intervention, there was a significant decrease in leukocytes (p=0.04) and lymphocytes (p<0.01) Conclusion After intervention, the use of cashew nut flour improved the hematological parameters of malnourished children. La muestra se compuso por niños menores de 5 años que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, 15 en el Grupo Intervención (harina de castaña de cajú) y 15 niños en el Grupo Control (harina de carboximetilcelulosa), repartidas en los grupos de forma muestreo aleatorio simple. Resultados Hubo un aumento en el promedio de las células individuales de la serie roja del hemograma, sobre todo en los estándares de hemoglobina de niños desnutridos del Grupo Intervención (p<0,05). La investigación también apuntó una diferencia intragrupo en el parámetro de la hemoglobina, tanto en el Grupo Control (p=0,007) como en la Intervención (p<0,001), así como en el parámetro hematocrito para ambos grupos (p=0,001). Específicamente en la serie blanca, después de la intervención, se evidenció una disminución significativa en los leucocitos (p=0,04) y linfocitos (p<0,01) Conclusión Después de la intervención, la utilización de la harina de la castaña de cajú mejoró los parámetros hematológicos de los niños desnutridos.

Abstract A new approach to meat color and shelf-life assessment is reported here for hamburgers mixed with goji berry. Samples with powdered or aqueous extract of goji berry were monitored, compared with hamburgers without the additive for ten days and its L*, a* and b* properties were determined by computer vision using a homemade setup. Noteworthy results, in particular the luminosity, for all samples with goji berry – only or with salt and pepper – were perceived, and predictive mathematical models for these food mixtures are here presented. The addition of goji berry in hamburgers, pioneered in this study, present advantageous characteristics both in terms of storage time and a positive effect on human health owing to the polyphenols in the natural additive. This study also offers insights into a low-cost and reliable method for the quality control of meat with potential application in the food industry.

Abstract Early Warning Systems (EWS) are non-structural measures for landslides disaster prevention. They are based on the detection of impending failure signals. The results of a landslide simulation experiment where accelerometers were used to identify pre-failure signals are presented in this paper. Landslide was simulated in a tilting flume filled with sandy soil. During the experiment, the flume was fixed at 30° inclination and water percolated through the soil until it slid. Accelerometers were embedded into the soil and recorded acceleration data from the beginning of the experiment until failure. Acceleration data were analyzed in time domain aiming at estimating translational velocity of the movement. Angular variation was also estimated from acceleration data. The experiment was recorded with a camera and pictures were used for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) analysis, in order to validate the estimated translational velocity. Results showed that accelerometers can identify pre-failure signals before any macroscopic movement could indicate impending failure in fast to very fast landslides, showing their potential to be used in EWS. Validation of estimated velocities was not always possible due to PIV setup constraints and the velocity of the mass movement simulated. In fact, the estimated translational velocities seem to be unreliable. On the other hand, the results suggest that acceleration data and angular position variation trend and rate can be incorporated into EWS.

Abstract Objective To assess the survival rate of patients with colorectal cancer at Hospital Universitário Alzira Vellano, in the municipality of Alfenas, state of Minas Gerais (MG), Brazil, from 2007 to 2016. Methodology A search was conducted in the laboratory files and medical records of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer and cared for during the aforementioned period. Results In total, 128 cases were found: 52.3% were men, and 47.7% were women, with ages ranging from 25 to 91 years. The most common types of cancer in both genders were of the colon, rectum and sigmoid. The most common stages were T3N1Mx, followed by T3N0Mx and T3N2Mx. Patients with T1 or T2 cancers had a 100% survival rate, whereas the rate for those with grade 4 (T4) was of 0%. An association (p<0.05) of the location of the tumor with the survival rate was confirmed. Conclusion There was a high mortality rate among patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer at Hospital Universitário Alzira Vellano from 2007 to 2016.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar a produção científica a respeito da suplementação de ácido fólico (AF) materno e sua relação com o transtorno do espectro autista (TEA). Fontes de Dados Realizamos buscas eletrônicas irrestritas nas bases de dados do banco virtual BIREME, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (VHL) e Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE / PubMed). Seleção dos Estudos Incluímos os artigos publicados em inglês, espanhol e português, com o uso dos DeCS: autistic OR autism AND autism spectrum disorder AND folic acid, e com o uso dos Medical Subject Headings (MeSH, na sigla em inglês): autistic OR autism AND Autistic Spectrum Disorder AND folic acid “. Coleta de Dados A extração de dados foi realizada pelos revisores com um formulário de coleta de dados pré-estabelecido. Síntese dos Dados Foram usados os itens de relatório preferidos para protocolos de revisão sistemática e meta-análise (PRISMA-P) com base em uma lista de verificação com 27 itens e um fluxograma de 4 etapas. Resultados Foram encontrados 384 artigos pelas estratégias de busca, dos quais 17 eram elegíveis segundo os critérios pré-estabelecidos. Os principais achados da presente revisão apontam para a suplementação de AF materno no período de preconcepção e início da gravidez como efeito protetor em relação ao TEA, que deve ser indicada neste período como prevenção do problema. Conclusão De acordo com as pesquisas analisadas, mais estudos são necessários para conhecer seus efeitos sobre a gravidez, uma vez que o consumo excessivo de AF pode não ser inócuo.

Abstract Objective To analyze the scientific production regarding maternal folic acid (FA) supplementation and its relationship with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). Data Sources We performed unrestricted electronic searches in the BIREME virtual bank, Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/PubMed) databases. Selection of Studies For sample selection, articles that met the proposed objectives were included, published in English, Spanish and Portuguese, the use of Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): autistic OR autism AND autism spectrum disorder AND folic acid, AND, with the use of the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH): autistic OR autism AND autistic spectrum disorder AND folic acid. Data Collection Data extraction was performed by the reviewers with a preestablished data collection formulary. Data Synthesis The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) was used based on a checklist with 27 items and a 4-step flowchart. Results A total of 384 articles was found by the search strategies, of which 17 were eligible following the pre-established criteria. The main findings of the present review point to maternal FA supplementation in the pre-conception period and beginning of pregnancy as a protective effect in relation to ASD, which should be indicated in this period as prevention to the problem. Conclusion According to the research analyzed, more studies are necessary to know its effects on pregnancy, since the consumption of excessive FA may not be innocuous.

Abstract: The main purpose of fiber reinforcement in concrete is to increase the post-cracking resistance of the composite, which reflects on toughness gain, being steel fibers traditionally used for this purpose. In recent years, an alternative to the steel fibers has emerged in the market for concrete reinforcement: the macro-polymeric fiber. However, there is few research on its performance as a reinforcement element in concrete, particularly when it is a high strength concrete. Given this, the behavior of high strength concrete, without fiber and with macro-polymeric fiber, both in fresh and hardened state, is analyzed in this paper. The workability was evaluated by the slump test and the mechanical properties were evaluated by the tests of compressive strength, Barcelona, flexure of prisms and punching of plates. It was found that, depending on the property to be analyzed, the increase of the macro-polymeric fiber content may be unfeasible. In the flexural test in prisms, for example, most parameters evaluated showed no significant changes when increasing the fiber content. In addition, it was observed that the same concrete mixture may present different behavior depending on the test performed.

Resumen: El objetivo principal del refuerzo con fibras en el hormigón es aumentar la resistencia post-fisuración del compuesto, lo que se refleja en una ganancia de tenacidad, siendo las fibras de acero las que tradicionalmente se utilizan para este fin. En los últimos años, ha surgido en el mercado una alternativa a las fibras de acero para el refuerzo del hormigón: la fibra macro-polimérica. Sin embargo, existen poca investigación sobre su comportamiento como elemento de refuerzo en el hormigón, especialmente cuando se trata de un hormigón de alta resistencia. Ante esto, este trabajo analiza el comportamiento del hormigón de alta resistencia, sin fibra y con fibra macropolimérica, tanto en estado fresco como endurecido. La trabajabilidad se evaluó mediante el ensayo de asentamiento, y las propiedades mecánicas se evaluaron mediante los ensayos de resistencia a la compresión, Barcelona, flexión de prismas y punzonamiento de placas. Se comprobó que, dependiendo de la propiedad a analizar, el aumento del contenido de fibra macro-polimérica puede ser inviable. En el ensayo de flexión en prismas, por ejemplo, la mayoría de los parámetros evaluados no mostraron cambios significativos al aumentar el contenido de fibra. Además, se observó que una misma mezcla de hormigón puede presentar un comportamiento diferente en función del ensayo realizado.

RESUMO: A crescente consciência dos consumidores sobre a relação existente entre saúde e dieta, tem despertado o interesse por alimentos que promovem efeitos benéficos ao ser humano. Desta maneira, o mercado de produtos lácteos com alegações probióticas passou a ser bastante explorado, assim como os delactosados, adequados ao público intolerante a lactose. O objetivo deste estudo foi produzir queijo de coalho trufado com requeijão e especiarias nas versões tradicional, delactosado e com adição de probiótico, sendo realizadas análises físico-química, microbiológicas, viabilidade das bactérias ácido láticas, teste de aceitação e preferência. As características físico-químicas dos queijos produzidos permaneceram dentro dos padrões da legislação brasileira. Os queijos desenvolvidos apresentaram segurança microbiológica para consumo e as bactérias ácido láticas revelaram-se viáveis no produto por um período de 42 dias. Considerado mais uma alternativa para o público com intolerância a lactose, o queijo coalho trufado delactosado demonstrou melhor aceitação sensorial em relação as demais versões.

ABSTRACT: The probiotic products from the dairy market have been extensively exploited as well as lactose-free derivatives, suitable for lactose intolerant individuals. This research aimed to manufacture stuffed cheese with Brazilian cream cheese and spices in three versions (traditional, lactose-free, and probiotic cheese) and evaluate their quality by physico-chemical and microbiological analyses, Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) viability, and acceptance and preference assays. Physico-chemical properties of the formulations were all in accordance with the standards for the fat content of the Ordinance No. 146 for the traditional (54.06%) and probiotic (45.45%) full-fat samples and free-lactose (39.28%) medium-fat sample. Regarding the microbiological safety, all the samples presented to be ready for consumption, and the LAB count were still viable after 42 days of storage in the probiotic formulation at the order of 108 log CFU/mL. The lactose-free formulation achieved the highest acceptance rates among the public regarding sensorial qualities with an average grade of 7.27 out of 9. In the end, the three types of stuffed coalho cheese were successful in total quality control and also the probiotic formulation with the desired viable count after storage and lactose-free formulation with the best acceptance rates by the public.

Abstract The extensive marine biodiversity has proved to be a promising source of substances with biomedical potential. In this study, the cytotoxicity of the Brazilian octocoral Phyllogorgia dilatata (Gorgoniidae) was evaluated against two tumor cell lines and three bacterial strains. The methanol/dichloromethane crude extract presented no antibacterial activity up to the highest concentration tested (512 µg/mL), however it revealed a noteworthy antiproliferative effect against HCT-116 (80%) and MCF-7 (54%) cell lines at 50 μg/mL. Therefore, guided by the cytotoxic activity, a multistep chemical fractionation of the extract provided the subfraction 5 (PDPH2-5) with IC50 values of 3.18 and 17.80 μg/mL against HCT-116 and MCF-7, respectively. The LC-HRMS/MS analysis of PDPH2-5 showed ions of m/z 219.1742 and 219.1743, characterized as (E,E) and (Z,E) germacrone, after a LC-DAD-SPE/NMR analysis of the hexanic fraction and comparisons of NMR data with the literature. Previously reported assessments to the cytotoxic activity of the (E,E)-diastereoisomer disclosed higher IC50 values than that obtained for the PDPH2-5 fraction, suggesting, herein, a potentiated effect of the diastereoisomeric mixture. Such remark encourage further bioactivity studies with stereoisomer mixtures and reduce the urge for compound isolation.

BACKGROUND Giardia duodenalis is a protozoan parasite that infects humans and other mammals and causes giardiasis worldwide. Giardia is genotyped into eight assemblages (A-H), with assemblages A and B considered zoonotic. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine the assemblages of G. duodenalis from individuals living in rural and urban areas of the Amazonas State. METHODS 103 human faecal specimens microscopically positive for the presence of Giardia obtained from four municipalities in Amazonas and four animal faecal specimens were genotyped based on the sequences of two genes, triosephosphate isomerase (TPI) and β-giardin (BG). FINDINGS In humans, assemblage A was the most represented with the identification of sub-assemblages AI, AII and AIII based on BG and sub-assemblages AI and AII based on TPI. Similarly, there is a diversity of sub-assemblage B considering BG (B and BIII) and TPI (B, BIII and BIV). In addition, we characterised homogeneous and heterogeneous genotypes comprising assemblages/sub-assemblages A and B in individuals from urban and rural areas. Here, for the first time, it was genotyped Giardia that infects animals from the Brazilian Amazon region. We identified sub-assemblage AI in one Ateles paniscus and two Felis catus and sub-assemblage BIV in one Lagothrix cana. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Therefore, humans and animals from the urban and rural Amazon share Giardia genotypes belonging to assemblages A and B, which are found in cosmopolitan regions around the world.
