ABSTRACT This paper addresses the Traveling Salesman Problem with Priority Prizes (TSPPP), an extension of the classical TSP in which the order of the node visits is taken into account in the objective function. A prize p ki is received by the traveling salesman when node i is visited in the k-th order of the route, while a travel cost c ij is incurred when the salesman travels from node i to node j . The aim of the TSPPP is to find the maximum profit n-node tour. The problem can be seen as a TSP variant with a more general objective function, aiming at solutions that in some way consider the quality of customer service and the delivery priorities and costs. A natural representation for the TSPPP is here grounded in the point of view of Koopmans and Beckmann approach, according to which the problem is seem as a special case of the quadratic assignment problem (QAP). Given the novelty of this TSP variant, we propose different mixed integer programming models to appropriately represent the TSPPP, some of them based on the QAP. Computational experiments are also presented when solving the MIP models with a well-known optimization software, as well as with a tabu search algorithm.

Resumo: Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal discutir o uso de métodos sistemáticos para geração de designs de experimentos com boas propriedades estatísticas e custos baixos. O foco da pesquisa é o sequenciamento dos experimentos, de maneira que são analisados os resultados de três diferentes abordagens para construção de designs fatoriais (ortogonais e não ortogonais) com dois níveis, em que o sequenciamento é feito de forma aleatória ou sistemática. Em particular, simulou-se a condução do design gerado por cada abordagem no contexto de um processo real de fabricação de embalagens de vidro, sem a presença de efeitos de tendências lineares e com a presença desses efeitos. Os resultados das análises indicam que em relação à ordem aleatória, sequências sistemáticas podem resultar em menor número de mudanças de níveis dos fatores e maior robustez a efeitos de tendências lineares, compatibilizando, portanto, o custo e a qualidade do design.

Abstract: The current study aims to discuss the use of systematic methods to generate experimental designs with good statistical properties and low costs. The research focuses on the sequence of experiments and on analysis the results of three different approaches used to build (orthogonal and non-orthogonal) two-level factorial designs, wherein sequencing is randomly or systematically performed. The study simulated the design generated by each approach in the context of an actual glass container manufacturing process, with and without the presence of linear trend effects. The results indicate that, in comparison to the random order, systematic sequences may lead to fewer factor level changes and to increased robustness to linear trend effects. Therefore, they may attach design cost and quality.

ABSTRACT This work addresses a vehicle routing problem that aims at representing delivery operations of large volumes of products in dense urban areas. Inspired by a case study in a drinks producer and distributor, we propose a mathematical programming model and solution approaches that take into account costs with own and chartered vehicles, multiple deliverymen, time windows in customers, compatibility of vehicles and customers, time limitations for the circulation of large vehicles in city centers and multiple daily trips. Results with instances based on real data provided by the company highlight the potential of applicability of some of the proposed methods.

In this work we consider a variant of the vehicle routing problem that allows the assignment of multiple deliverymen to one or more routes. A practical motivation for this variant arises, for example, in the distribution of beverages in highly dense urban areas, characterized by the difficulty in serving daily requests within regular working day hours with a single deliveryman per vehicle. We present a mathematical model and a savings algorithm in order to generate low cost routes that maximize the number of requests served in compliance with the maximum route time. The impact of the extra deliverymen on the solutions provided by the proposed heuristic is assessed by means of sets of generated examples based on classical instances of literature. It is also presented the results obtained by an adaptation of a tabu search approach from the literature.

Este trabalho aborda o problema do carregamento de contêineres, cuja forma mais geral consiste em arranjar itens (por exemplo, produtos embalados em caixas) de vários tamanhos dentro de objetos maiores (por exemplo, contêineres) com máximo aproveitamento do volume disponível. Em particular, é considerado o caso especial em que as caixas a serem arranjadas são retangulares e idênticas. Com o objetivo de resolver este problema, estendemos a heurística de busca tabu de Pureza e Morabito, originalmente projetada para o problema de carregamento de paletes do produtor. Partindo-se de uma solução inicial gerada por uma heurística de blocos, são realizados movimentos de troca de orientação e/ou expansão de blocos selecionados, resultando na geração de novos padrões de carregamento. Resultados computacionais obtidos com 22 exemplos da literatura sugerem que a abordagem proposta é promissora.

This paper tackles the container loading problem, which consists of determining the most effective way of arranging items (for example, products packed in boxes) in larger objects (for example, containers). In particular, we consider the special case in which the boxes to be arranged are rectangular-shaped and identical. In order to solve this problem, we extend the tabu search algorithm by Pureza and Morabito, originally designed for the manufacturer's pallet loading problem. From a starting solution generated by a block heuristic, the algorithm performs moves, which change the orientation and/or expand selected blocks, resulting in new loading patterns. Computational results obtained with 22 instances from the literature suggest that the proposed approach is promising.

Neste trabalho, é analisado o impacto da utilização de métodos de roteamento dinâmico de veículos em ambientes de prestação de serviço, onde a satisfação dos prazos de atendimento do cliente é prioritária. Com esse objetivo, é proposta uma heurística construtiva/desconstrutiva, que, quando acionada por um módulo de despacho de veículos, elabora rotas em tempo real. O impacto da aplicação da heurística é medido frente a outros métodos, utilizando- se conjuntos de instâncias geradas aleatoriamente, com base em dados fornecidos por uma empresa do setor de bebidas do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Os resultados indicam benefícios substanciais em termos de nível de serviço oferecido.

In this paper we evaluate the impacts resulting from the incorporation of dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling in service production systems where due dates for service are a priority issue. We propose a constructive/deconstructive heuristic, which is activated by a dispatcher module in order to obtain routes in real time. The relative impact of the heuristic application to other methods is analyzed by means of sets of randomly generated instances, based on the data supplied by a drinks company in São Paulo State. The results indicate significant gains in terms of service level.

Um método heurístico para geração de padrões de cortes bidimensionais guilhotinados restritos, baseado no método exato de Christofides e Hadjiconstantinou (1995) foi proposto em Silveira e Morabito (2002). O método combina uma relaxação do espaço de estados de uma formulação de programação dinâmica, um procedimento do tipo otimização do subgradiente e uma heurística de factibilização. Neste trabalho, o método de Silveira e Morabito é modificado com a utilização de uma heurística de factibilização mais efetiva que a anterior, e com uma abordagem de busca em grafo-e/ou para geração de boas soluções iniciais. Resultados computacionais de exemplos da literatura e gerados aleatoriamente indicam que o método refinado tem desempenho bem superior ao anterior, e é competitivo diante de outros métodos propostos na literatura.

A heuristic method for generating constrained two-dimensional guillotine cutting patterns based on the exact method by Christofides and Hadjiconstantinou (1995) was presented in Silveira and Morabito (2002). The method combines a state space relaxation of a dynamic programming formulation, a subgradient optimization procedure and an inner heuristic that turn infeasible solutions provided in each step of the optimization procedure into feasible solutions. In this work, the method of Silveira and Morabito is modified by using a more effective inner heuristic, and an and/or-graph search approach in order to generate good initial solutions. Results for benchmark and randomly generated instances indicate that the refined method's performance is superior to the previous one, and it is competitive face to other methods proposed in the literature.

O problema de carregamento de paletes do produtor consiste em arranjar, ortogonalmente e sem sobreposição, o máximo número de caixas de dimensões (l,w) ou (w,l), sobre um palete retangular de dimensões (L,W). Este problema vem sendo tratado com sucesso por heurísticas de blocos, onde são gerados padrões de carregamento compostos por um ou mais blocos, cujas peças possuem a mesma orientação. Uma característica desses métodos é que os padrões gerados estão limitados aos chamados padrões não-guilhotinados de primeira ordem. Neste trabalho é proposta uma abordagem baseada na incorporação de busca tabu simples (sem estruturas de memória de longo prazo) em heurísticas de bloco. Partindo-se de uma solução inicial, são realizados movimentos de aumento de blocos, que resultam na diminuição, eliminação e criação de outros blocos. Resultados computacionais indicam que esta abordagem é capaz de gerar padrões ótimos de ordem superior em problemas de difícil resolução para outros métodos da literatura.

The manufacturer's pallet loading problem consists in arranging, orthogonally and without overlapping, the maximum number of boxes with dimensions (l,w) or (w,l) onto a rectangular pallet with dimensions (L,W). This problem has been handled successfully by block heuristics, which generate loading patterns composed by one or more blocks where the pieces have the same orientation. A feature of such methods is that the patterns are limited to the so called 1st order non-guillotine patterns. In this work we propose an approach based on the incorporation of simple tabu search (without longer term memory structures) in block heuristics. Starting from an initial pattern, the algorithm performs moves that increase the size of selected blocks in the current pattern; as a result, other blocks are decreased, eliminated or created. Computational results indicate that the approach is capable of generating superior order optimal patterns for difficult instances reported in the literature.

O Problema de Carregamento de Paletes do Produtor consiste em arranjar, ortogonalmente e sem sobreposição, o máximo número de caixas retangulares idênticas de dimensões (l,w) sobre um palete (L,W). Este problema vem sendo tratado com sucesso por heurísticas de blocos, as quais constroem padrões de carregamento com um ou mais blocos, cujas caixas possuem a mesma orientação. Os arranjos gerados por estes métodos estão limitados aos chamados padrões não-guilhotinados de primeira ordem. Neste trabalho, foi elaborada uma implementação baseada no algoritmo de busca tabu de Dowsland, que, ao contrário das heurísticas de blocos, provê arranjos não limitados a padrões particulares de empacotamento. Experimentos computacionais com um conjunto de 34 exemplos extraídos da literatura e de contextos reais indicam que a abordagem é capaz de resolver otimamente a maioria dos exemplos; para os exemplos não resolvidos, é proposto um procedimento adicional simples, cuja aplicação resultou na obtenção de padrões ótimos.

The Manufacturer's Pallet Loading Problem (MPLP) consists in arranging, orthogonally and without overlapping, the maximum number of rectangular and identical pieces of sizes (l, w) onto a pallet (L, W). The MPLP has been successfully handled by block heuristics, which generate loading patterns with one or more blocks where the pieces have the same orientation. The resulting patterns produced by these methods are limited to the so-called 1st order non-guillotine patterns. In this work we present a tabu search implementation based on the algorithm proposed by Dowsland to solve the MPLP; differently than block heuristics, the solutions are not limited to particular loading patterns. Computational experiments with a set of 34 instances extracted from the literature as well as from practical contexts indicate that this approach is capable to solve most of the examples. For the unsolved instances, we propose a simple additional procedure, which resulted in optimal patterns.
