Resumo: Este ensaio visa compreender como as atletas paralímpicas com doenças degenerativas Susana Schnarndorf, da natação, e Elizabeth Gomes, do atletismo, lidam com a dicotomia do tempo que o esporte lhes confere. Uma luta “contra” o relógio para conquistas de índices e a “favor” da extensão do tempo de vida. Paradoxalmente, traz falas da velocista belga Marieke Vervoort, que preferiu romper com o tempo de vida e das competições. A metodologia usada são as narrativas biográficas, que partem de um convite para que as atletas contem suas histórias de vida. Resultam das narrativas elementos de subjetividade, que lidam não apenas com o papel social dessas mulheres como atletas, mas como seres humanos, que sofrem com a condição da mortalidade e de uma finitude breve, marcada pela doença. A aproximação com personagens literários é uma forma de metaforizar a aspereza desse vislumbre tão tênue entre a finitude e a eternidade.

Abstract: This essay aims to understand how two Paralympic athletes with degenerative diseases - swimmer Susana Schnarndorf and Elizabeth Gomes, a practitioner of athletics - deal with the dichotomy of time provided by sport, a struggle “against” the clock to achieve high performance and “in favor” of extending one’s lifetime. Paradoxically, it presents speeches of Belgian sprinter Marieke Vervoort, who preferred to give up her time in life and competition. The methodology used was biographical narrative starting from an invitation for the athletes to tell their life stories, which result from narratives - elements of subjectivity - which address the social roles of these women not only as athletes but also as human beings, as they suffer from the condition of mortality and brief finitude marked by the disease. Approximation with literary characters is metaphor for the harshness of that glimmer between finitude and eternity.

Resumen: Este ensayo tiene como objetivo comprender cómo las atletas paralímpicas con enfermedades degenerativas Susana Schnarndorf, de la natación, y Elizabeth Gomes, del atletismo, enfrentan la dicotomía del tiempo que les da el deporte. Una lucha "contra" reloj para conquistar índices y “a favor” de extender el tiempo de vida. Paradójicamente, trae las palabras de la velocista belga Marieke Vervoort, que prefirió romper con el tiempo de vida y con las competencias. La metodología utilizada son las narrativas biográficas, que parten de una invitación para que las deportistas cuenten sus historias de vida. Las narrativas traen elementos de subjetividad que tratan no solo del rol social de estas mujeres como deportistas, sino como seres humanos, que sufren la condición de mortalidad y de una breve finitud, marcada por la enfermedad. El acercamiento a personajes literarios es una forma de metáfora de la dureza de ese destello tan tenue entre la finitud y la eternidad.

Resumo O presente artigo tem como objetivo discutir a kalokagathía (o bom e o belo) na passagem do atleta que transcendeu as limitações físicas, ou imperfeições, impostas pela deficiência para a posição de excelência alcançada na carreira de atleta paralímpico. Em se tratando de esporte, cabe a metáfora “imperfeito” para situar quem são e onde estão as pessoas com deficiência, quando e por que as práticas esportivas tornam-se acessíveis e onde elas se encontram na atualidade. Para tanto, foi utilizado como método as narrativas biográficas, que permitiram entender os processos de transição dos atletas estudados. Todos eles estavam em trajetória de carreira olímpica quando sofreram um acidente ou doença que os limitou fisicamente. O que se viu e se ouviu desses atletas é o amor à vida reluzindo acima de qualquer musculatura atrofiada, de qualquer penumbra no campo visual ou de qualquer parte faltante do corpo.

Abstract This article aims to discuss kalokagathia (the good and the beautiful) in the passage of the athlete who transcended physical limitations or imperfections imposed by disability to the position of excellence achieved in a career as Paralympic athlete. When it comes to sports, the “imperfect” metaphor points out who people with disabilities are and where they are, when and why sports practices become accessible, and where they are today. Biographical narratives were used as a method, which allowed understanding the transition processes of the athletes studied. All of them were on an Olympic career path when they suffered an accident or illness that physically limited them. What has been seen and heard of these athletes is their love of life shining over any atrophied muscles, darkness in their visual fields or missing body parts.

Resumen El presente artículo tiene como objetivo discutir la kalokagathía (lo bueno y lo bello) del atleta que trascendió las limitaciones físicas, o imperfecciones, impuestas por la deficiencia hacia la posición de excelencia alcanzada en la carrera de atleta paralímpico. En lo que se refiere al deporte, cabe la metáfora "imperfecto" para situar quiénes son y dónde están las personas con discapacidad, cuándo y por qué las prácticas deportivas se vuelven accesibles y dónde se encuentran en la actualidad. Para ello, como método se utilizan las narrativas biográficas, que permitieron entender los procesos de transición de los atletas estudiados. Todos ellos estaban en trayectoria de carrera olímpica cuando sufrieron un accidente o enfermedad que los limitó físicamente. Lo que se vio y se oyó de esos atletas es el amor a la vida reluciendo por encima de cualquier musculatura atrofiada, de cualquier penumbra en el campo visual o de cualquier parte del cuerpo que falte.

A proposta deste artigo foi entender a relação entre a estrutura vigente do futebol profissional, que coloca os atletas em um mercado de trabalho restrito, e as práticas de liberdade como forma de posicionamento dos atletas diante da estrutura que, ao mesmo tempo, valida e controla as suas carreiras. Dessa forma, o texto foi estruturado de modo a discutir o Esporte Moderno e o controle que a Federação Internacional de Futebol (FIFA) exerce sobre futebol profissional, a mercadorização e a circulação dos jogadores brasileiros em busca dos mercados futebolísticos no exterior. Por meio de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, as práticas de liberdade foram discutidas a partir de dois episódios envolvendo os jogadores Neymar e Paulo Henrique Ganso, para entender como as suas reivindicações seguem rumos distintos. Como resultado as práticas de liberdade no futebol consistem na ação dos atletas em não se deixarem reduzir à condição de "peça" ou de "mercadoria".

The purpose of this article was to understand the connection between the current structure of professional football in which athletes are submitted to work at a restricted field, and athletes' freedom to express their opinions facing such structure, that on one hand is responsible for validate their careers, and on the other hand is also responsible for that. Therefore, the text was structured to discuss the Modern Sport and the control that FIFA has done over professional football, the commodification of football players and the movement of Brazilian players abroad in order to find a job in the foreign market. Using a bibliographical research, athletes practices were analyzed taking into account two episodes involving the football players Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso, to understand some differences between their claims. The results show that, the practices of freedom in football consist of players action for reducing the status of "piece" or "good".

O Brasil participou de todas as edições dos Jogos Olímpicos (JO) no judô, nos quais 12 atletas brasileiros conquistaram medalhas. O objetivo deste estudo foi elaborar uma "árvore genealógica judoística" do judô brasileiro a partir destes medalhistas. A metodologia utilizada foi História Oral de Vida Híbrida. Foram entrevistados os 12 medalhistas brasileiros em JO e seus professores. Identificamos todos os formadores dos professores destes medalhistas, até encontrar os "genearcas", aqueles que chegaram ao Brasil com condições de transmitir estes conhecimentos. As informações obtidas com os entrevistados foram analisadas juntamente com outros documentos. Maeda e Satake foram os primeiros japoneses a chegar e fazer demonstrações de judô no Brasil, a partir de 1914. Ryuzo Ogawa, que fundou a Budokan em 1936, foi o genearca que influenciou o maior número destes atletas. O primeiro medalhista brasileiro, Chiaki Ishii, foi também um genearca, pois influenciou outros atletas e professores.

Brazil has participated in all editions of the Olympic Games (OG) in Judo, and 12 Brazilian athletes were medalists. The goal of the present study is to prepare a Judo genealogical tree from the Brazilian Judo of those medalists. The methodology used was the oral history of life hybrid. The 12 Brazilian Judo medalists and their coaches were interviewed. After identified all of the former coaches from those medalists, we were able to find the genearches, those who came into Brazil with the possibility to transmit these knowledge. The answers obtained from the respondents were analyzed together with other documents. Maeda and Satake were the first ones to arrive in Brazil and began the demonstrations, in 1914. Ryuzo Ogawa, who found Budokan in 1936, was the genearch who influenced the highest number of those athletes. The first Brazilian medalist, Chiaki Ishii, was a genearch as well, since he influenced other athletes and coaches.

Brasil ha participado en todas las ediciones de los Juegos Olímpicos (JO) en judo, aunque 12 atletas brasileños ganaron medallas. El objetivo de este estudio fue preparar un árbol genealogica judoística de estos mismos medallistas olimpicos de judo. La historia oral de vida híbrida es la metodología utilizada. Entrevistamos a los 12 medallistas brasileños y sus entrenadores. Se identificaron todos los entrenadores formadores de estos medallistas también, hasta que encuentre los genearcas, que llegaran a Brasil y lograron hacer la transmisión de este conocimiento. La información obtenida de los encuestados fueron analizadas junto con otros documentos. Maeda y Satake fueron los primeros a llegar y dar demostraciones de judo en Brasil, desde 1914. Ryuzo Ogawa, quien fundó Budokan en 1936, fue el genearca que influyó el mayor número de estos atletas. El primer medallista brasileño, Chiaki Ishii, fue también un genearca al influir otros atletas y entrenadores.

A sociedade brasileira vislumbra, na atualidade, o desafio de organizar e realizar megaeventos esportivos de grande impacto social. Nesse contexto, a atividade esportiva pode ser considerada uma ferramenta eficaz de intervenção psicossocial, especialmente com crianças e jovens. A presente pesquisa teve por objetivo investigar situações e vivências de atletas de alto rendimento relacionadas ao aprendizado decorrente da inserção nesse contexto e aos valores ali preconizados. Foram realizadas entrevistas por meio do método de história de vida com quatro atletas de duas equipes de atletismo do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Os dados foram categorizados e o conteúdo foi analisado qualitativamente. Os resultados apontaram para diversas contribuições decorrentes da inserção no contexto esportivo, algumas atreladas às transformações externas, como a melhora da condição estética, financeira ou de inclusão social, e outras relacionadas aos aspectos internos e subjetivos, como o reforço e o desenvolvimento de valores de cooperação, amizade, solidariedade e a capacidade de compartilhar e de superar adversidades (resiliência). Conclui-se que a atividade esportiva, quando bem conduzida (por profissionais bem capacitados), pode beneficiar tanto o desenvolvimento global do praticante, quanto os demais ambientes nos quais ele está inserido, como a família e o grupo de iguais, ampliando as contribuições para a sociedade de modo geral.

Brazilian society is currently facing the challenge of organizing and conducting massive sports events of large social impact. Within this context, the sport activity can be regarded as an efficient tool of psychosocial intervention, especially with children and youngsters. The present study aimed at the investigation of situations and experiences of high-performance athletes associated to the learning process that accompanied their insertion in this context and the values espoused therein. Interviews were carried out based on the life history method with four athletes belonging to two athletics teams from the State of São Paulo. Data were categorized, and the contents were analyzed qualitatively. The results pointed to various contributions of the insertion of these people into the sports context, some of them linked to external changes, such as the improvement of their aesthetic, financial or social inclusion status, and others related to internal or subjective aspects, such as the reinforcement and development of values of cooperation, friendship, solidarity, and the capacity to share and overcome adversities (resilience). The study concludes that sports activities, if well conducted (by well-prepared professionals), can both improve the practitioner's global development, and benefit the other environments in which he or she is inserted, such as family and peer group, thereby extending the contributions to the whole of society.

A sociedade contemporânea tem na velocidade de transformação de conceitos e padrões e no dinamismo suas principais marcas. O reconhecimento desse fenômeno por pensadores de diferentes correntes teóricas e mesmo os cidadãos comuns que se prestam a observar seu entorno são capazes de notar rápidas e estruturais alterações sociais. O esporte é um dos maiores fenômenos culturais da sociedade contemporânea e em virtude disso, suas características em muito se assemelham com a do contexto no qual se insere. O presente texto buscou estreitar as relações entre esporte e sociedade, reconhecendo seus pontos comuns e propondo maneiras de se olhar para o fenômeno esportivo na contemporaneidade. Sem pretensões de aqui encerrar o assunto e questionando a possibilidade disso efetivamente acontecer, notou-se que haverá sempre grande dificuldade na compreensão dos fenômenos esportivos modernos, uma vez que a intensa velocidade de transformação dificulta análises profundas. No entanto é preciso reconhecer a importância do pensar o esporte inserido na sociedade, para que as ações envolvendo o esporte não sejam carregadas de elementos alienantes e pouco relevantes aos que o praticam.

The current society have two indelible trademarks - the speed in which concepts and standards are transformed and its dynamism. The recognition if that phenomenon is being made by countless contemporary authors and even by the common citizens that observes his/hers surroundings and can easily notice how fast social and structural changes occur. Sports are a relevant element of contemporary society and because of that its aspects and characteristics are deeply connected to the social context. The dissertation that follows looks into narrowing the space between sports and society, acknowledging the common points and bringing to the table new ways of looking at the sports phenomenon in contemporary society. With no intention of ending that discussion and questioning if we will ever in fact find an end, it's noticeable that there will always be a great deal of hard work in fully understanding the sports phenomenon in the modern world, since the speed in which everything happens makes it almost impossible to analyze things with the necessary depth. However, we must recognize how important is the study of sports in society, to the actions around it do not get taken as elements of alienation and irrelevancy to those who practice it.

Ao objetivo primeiro desta pesquisa, descrever as dinâmicas do surfe e os significados de sua prática, em especial a relação ser humano/natureza estabelecida por meio do esporte, somaram-se outros objetivos: problematizar a aproximação do pesquisador de seu campo de investigação, a possibilidade de um pesquisador realizar uma investigação através de seu próprio corpo e discutir a questão de gênero no surfe. Sobre o objetivo primeiro desta pesquisa, vivendo e descrevendo as dinâmicas do surfe encontrou-se os significados da relação do surfista com o mar nas sensações corporais experimentadas nas técnicas do remar, sentar, dar o joelhinho e dropar a onda. Que ser capaz de passar a rebentação é associado a um retorno bem sucedido à comunhão do homem com a natureza, sendo as cores, formas e sensações do "outside" o privilégio daquele que vence as dificuldades do tornar-se e ser surfista. Mas, que estas sensações são tidas como possibilidades de corpos corajosos e hábeis, "a priori", entendidos como corpos masculinos. O surfe como campo em que o feminino é visto ainda como exceção dá a pensar que os esportes na natureza e a educação ao ar livre, embora tenham potencial de promover novas condutas políticas e a virtuosa sensibilidade ambiental, não estão livres de reproduzir outros padrões de dominação.

The main goal of this research is to describe the dynamics of surfing and its meanings, mainly the human/nature relation established through the sport. Meanwhile, other goals were added: discussing the approach to the field by the researcher, the possibility this researcher could investigate through her own body and the gender matter in the sport. About the main aim of the research, living and experiencing the sport itself, meaning, to the relation between the surfer and the sea, was found in the body sensations experienced through techniques such as paddling, sitting, duck diving and dropping a wave. Being able to go out is associated to a successful return to man's communion with nature, making outside's colors, shapes and sensations the privilege of whoever transposes the challenges and difficulties of becoming and being a surfer. However, these sensations are held as being only possible for courageous and agile bodies, at first, understood as male ones. Surfing as a field where the feminine is still the exception, allows the thinking that, even though nature sports and outdoor education have the potential to promote new political conducts and environmental sensitivity virtues, they are not free from reproducing other domination standards.

Na década de 20, o esporte ainda era visto como uma instituição masculina, o que invalidava a experiência atlética feminina, sendo apenas o atletismo, a dança clássica e o bola ao cesto, consideradas atividades saudáveis para o intitulado "sexo frágil". Uma vez excluídas dos estádios e instituições esportivas, assim como da própria vida pública determinada na época, a condição feminina foi limitada pela dedicação ao lar e à família.Em contrapartida, o Movimento Feminista lutava pelo direito à cidadania, à uma existência legal na vida pública e a própria Educação Física apontava através de seus discursos a mulher como fisicamente ativa, dentro de propósitos eugenistas e higienistas. In the second decade of the XX century, sports were still accepted as a male institution, which disabled the female athletic experience, being only the athletics, the classic dance and the basketball (called "bola ao cesto") considered as healthy activities to the so called "fragile gender". Once banned from stadiums and sport institutions as well as from the very public life at that time, the female condition was limited to home and family activities. Notwithstanding, the Feminism strived for the right to citizenship and to a legal existence in public life. The Physical Education very itself referred women as physically active through its discourses within eugenics and hygienic purposes. The aim of this study is to discuss how occurred the women participation in corporal practices in clubs in the decade of 20 in São Paulo city

Os Jogos Olímpicos da Era Moderna foram recriados por Pierre de Coubertin e tiveram sua primeira edição no ano de 1896. Respeitando o calendário grego, no qual foi espelhado, os Jogos de Olímpicos de Verão realizam-se de quatro em quatro anos, período de uma Olimpíada, e atravessaram o século XX sofrendo de perto toda intensa dinâmica de um momento histórico marcado por profundos conflitos sociais de ordem mundial. A partir da análise desses momentos, é possível observar as transformações vividas pelo Movimento Olímpico. A partir de então, pretende-se nesse artigo discutir e caracterizar esses momentos históricos propondo uma periodização para os Jogos Olímpicos. Intenta-se com isso criar parâmetros de análise para os acontecimentos olímpicos a partir de seu contexto histórico-social

The Olympics of the modern age have been recreated by Pierre de Coubertin and its first edition was in 1896. Respecting the Greek calendar, which was mirrored, the Summer Olympic Games are held every four years, during the Olympics, and went through the XX Century were influenced to the dynamics of a historical moment marked by deep social conflicts world order. From the analysis of these moments, it was possible to observe the changes experienced by the Olympic Movement. Thereafter, we intend to discuss in this article and characterize these historical moments proposing a timeline for the Olympics. The intention of this was to create analysis parameters for the Olympic events from their historical and social context

No Brasil a condição feminina na década de 1920 era determinada pela exclusão da vida pública e dedicação a vida privada. Neste mesmo período o movimento feminista lutou pelo direito das mulheres à cidadania, a uma existência legal fora de casa. Na Educação Física os discursos apontam uma mulher fisicamente ativa, dentro de propósitos eugenistas e higienistas. O atletismo, a dança clássica e o basquetebol começaram a ser considerados atividades saudáveis para mulheres. O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir como se deu a participação da mulher nas práticas corporais em clubes na década de 1920 na cidade de São Paulo.

The woman condition at 20’s was determined by a discourse that, based in the public life and dedication to a private life. At the same time the Feminist Movement fight to the rights of the women to citizenship and a social life outside. Among Physical Education, the discourses added a woman physically active. The athletics’, classic dance and basketball started to be consider health activities to women. The subjective of this paper is to discuss how it was the women participation at the corporal practices in clubs at 20’s of 20th Century in Sao Paulo.
