Resumen En la región norte de Mato Grosso (Brasil) la distribución de la precipitación afecta principalmente la actividad económica. La deficiencia de lluvias limita la producción agrícola y su exceso, el flujo de productos por vías secundarias. Estos obstáculos imponen la necesidad de un mayor conocimiento de la distribución de lluvias en regiones distantes del Estado, como Paranorte, en Juara-MT. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar el comienzo y el final de la temporada de lluvias, así como la frecuencia e intensidad del verano, e investigar los eventos causales de estas temporadas y sus relaciones con los fenómenos ENOS (El Niño de Oscilación Sur). Para ello, se adoptaron métodos basados en la cantidad y la continuidad de las lluvias. Los resultados mostraron que en Paranorte la precipitación anual acumulada varía entre 2322 y 2720 mm. Los meses del año se dividen en un período seco (entre julio y agosto), dos meses de baja precipitación (mayo y septiembre - ≈ 80 mm) y dos más extensos con altas precipitaciones (entre enero y abril y entre octubre y diciembre, con 214 a 464 mm). Las sequías prolongadas ocurren con mayor frecuencia al comienzo (septiembre) y al final (mayo) de la temporada de lluvias. A su vez, los fenómenos ENOS influyen en la lluvia solo en primavera.

Abstract Rainfall predominantly influences economic activity in northern of Mato Grosso. The scarcity of rainfall limits agricultural production, and its excess hinders the flow of production on back roads. These obstacles impose the need for greater knowledge of rainfall in distant regions of the state, such as Paranorte, in Juara-MT. This study aimed to identify the beginning and end of the rainy season, as well as the frequency and duration of dry days, besides to investigate causal relationships of rainfall with ENSO (El Niño de Oscillation Sul) phenomena. Methods based on rainfall quantity and continuity were adopted. The results showed that in Paranorte, the accumulated annual precipitation varies between 2322 and 2720 mm. The months of the year are divided into a dry period (June, July and August), a period of low rainfall (May and September - ≈ 80 mm) and a period of high rainfall (October, November, December, January, February, March and April, with 214 to 464 mm). Prolonged droughts occur most often at the beginning (September) and end (May) of the rainy season. In turn, ENSO phenomena influence rainfall only in spring.

RESUMO: Os organismos da macrofauna edáfica são fundamentais para a manutenção da qualidade do solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a macrofauna edáfica sob diferentes espécies de plantas de cobertura, incluindo monocultura ou cultivo consorciado associados a dois tipos de manejo do solo no sudoeste do Piauí. O estudo foi realizado em Latossolo Amarelo (Sistema Brasileiro de Classificação de Solos) no município de Bom Jesus, Piauí, distribuídos em parcelas de 30 m2. O experimento e avaliação da macrofauna edáfica foram conduzidos em um ensaio fatorial em faixas 9 × 2, com combinações entre culturas /consórcios de cobertura e manejo do solo (com ou sem preparo), com quatro repetições. Os monólitos de solo (0,25 × 0,25 m) foram retirados aleatoriamente de cada parcela, para contagem da macrofauna, nas camadas de 0‒0,1, 0,1‒0,2, e 0,2-0,3 m de profundidade, inclusive liteira de superfície. Após a identificação e contagem dos organismos, foi determinada a densidade relativa de cada táxon em cada profundidade. A abundância total da macrofauna edáfica quantificada no experimento foi de 2.408 ind.m-2, distribuídos em 6 classes, 16 ordens e 31 famílias. Os resultados da análise multivariada revelaram que espécies de gramíneas em sistemas de cultivo solteiro e plantio direto favoreceram maior densidade da macrofauna, em especial do grupo taxonômico Isoptera. A ausência de preparo também proporcionou maior riqueza de famílias, destacando-se o grupo taxonômico Coleoptera adulto em plantio direto e Hemiptera em plantio convencional.

ABSTRACT: The soil macrofauna is fundamental for the maintenance of soil quality. The aim of this study was to characterize the soil macrofauna under different species of cover crops, including monoculture or intercropping associated to two types of soil management in the southwest region of Piauí state. The study was carried out in an Oxisol (Latossolo Amarelo, according to Brazilian Soil Classification System) in the municipality of Bom Jesus, Piauí, distributed in 30 m2 plots. Testing and evaluation of the soil macrofauna were conducted in a 9 × 2 strip factorial design, with combinations between cover crops/consortia and soil management (with or without tillage), with four replications. Soil monoliths (0.25 × 0.25 m) were randomly sampled in each plot for macrofauna at 0‒0.1, 0.1‒0.2, and 0.2‒0.3 m depth, including surface litter. After identification and counting of soil organims, the relative density of each taxon in each depth was determined. The total abundance of soil macrofauna quantified under cover crops in the conventional and no-tillage system was 2,408 ind. m-2, distributed in 6 classes, 16 orders, and 31 families. The results of multivariate analysis show that grass species in sole cropping systems and no-tillage presents higher macrofauna density, in particular the taxonomic group Isoptera. No-tillage also provided higher richness of families, where Coleoptera adult were the second more abundant group in no-tillage and Hemiptera in conventional tillage.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se caracterizar a macrofauna edáfica sob diferentes cultivos comparando-os a vegetação nativa de ecótono Cerrado/Caatinga no Sudoeste do Piauí. As áreas estudadas foram: área sob cultivo de ata (Annona squamosa L.); capim andropogon com três anos de cultivo; capim andropogon com seis anos de cultivo; milho irrigado sob pivô; capim napier e vegetação nativa. Em cada área foram avaliadas as camadas de 0-0,1, 0,1-0,2 e 0,2-0,3m, inclusive a serapilheira de superfície, segundo recomendações do Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Program (TSBF). A macrofauna edáfica nos diferentes sistemas de uso do solo foi identificada até o nível de famílias e a densidade média de cada táxon foi calculada para cada tipo de manejo do solo e camada. A estrutura da macrofauna edáfica foi alterada negativamente nos diferentes cultivos quando comparadas com a vegetação nativa de cerrado/caatinga, variando quanto a sua ocorrência nas diversas camadas de solo. Houve correlação entre os grupos funcionais com a distribuição granulométrica e umidade do solo. O cultivo de capim napier favoreceu maior abundância da macrofauna edáfica, porém com predominância das famílias pertencente às ordens Isoptera e Hymenoptera. O milho irrigado sob pivô apresenta número de famílias da macrofauna edáfica mais semelhante à vegetação nativa e maior diversidade de famílias em relação aos demais cultivos estudados, reduzindo o impacto do uso antrópico sobre a biodiversidade da macrofauna edáfica.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to characterize the soil macrofauna under different crop systems and compare them to the macrofauna under the native vegetation of a Cerrado/Caatinga ecotone in southwestern Piauí State, Brazil. The areas studied included areas under sweetsop cultivation (Annona squamosa L.), andropogon grass with three years of use, andropogon grass with six years of use, pivot-irrigated corn, Napier grass, and native vegetation. In each area, soil layers of 0-0.1, 0.1-0.2, and 0.2-0.3m, including the surface litter, were evaluated following the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Program (TSBF) recommendations. The soil macrofauna from the different land-use systems were identified to the family level, and the mean density of each taxon was calculated for each soil-management type and layer. The structure of the soil macrofauna was negatively altered under the different crops in comparison to the native Cerrado/Caatinga vegetation, with macrofaunal occurrence varying in the different soil layers. A correlation existed between the functional groups and the soil grain-size distribution and moisture. Napier grass cultivation favored greater soil macrofaunal abundance, with a predominance of families belonging to the orders Isoptera and Hymenoptera. Number of soil macrofaunal families under pivot-irrigated corn was more like the number observed with the native vegetation, and corn also had greater family diversity compared to the other crops studied. Therefore, pivot-irrigated corn can reduce the impact of anthropogenic land use on the diversity of soil macrofauna.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a macrofauna edáfica em sistemas de produção de grãos sob plantio direto e convencional no Sudoeste do Piauí, na região de Matopiba. Amostras de solo foram coletadas nas camadas de 0,0-0,1, 0,1-0,2 e 0,2-0,3 m, com serrapilheira, em áreas cultivadas predominantemente com milho e soja, sob preparo convencional e plantio direto, em solos com diferentes texturas. Remanescentes de vegetação nativa adjacentes foram amostrados como referência. A macrofauna edáfica nos diferentes sistemas de uso do solo foi identificada até o nível de famílias, as quais foram agrupadas de acordo com suas funções ecológicas. Os grupos mais abundantes nas áreas amostradas foram Isoptera, Hymenoptera e Coleoptera, este com o maior número de famílias. A análise de componentes principais revelou que os grupos funcionais geófago/bioturbador, fitófago/praga e predador/parasita estão associados a solos de textura argilo-siltosa; enquanto o grupo detritívoro/decompositor, a solos mais arenosos. Os sistemas de manejo do solo alteram a estrutura da comunidade de macroinvertebrados edáficos em relação à condição natural de Cerrado. O plantio direto proporciona maior abundância e riqueza de espécies que o preparo convencional, e minimiza o impacto de sistemas agrícolas sobre a biodiversidade da macrofauna edáfica.

Abstract The objective of this work was to characterize the edaphic macrofauna in agricultural grain production systems under no-tillage and conventional tillage, in the Shoutheastern state of Piauí, in the Matopiba region, Brazil. Soil samples were taken from the 0.0-0.1, 0.1-0.2, and 0.2-0.3-m layers, with litter, in areas predominantly cropped with corn and soybean, under conventional and no-tillage systems, in soils with different textures. Fragments of native vegetation in adjacent areas were used as a reference. The edaphic macrofauna in the different land uses was identified down to family level, and the families were grouped according to their ecological functions. The most abundant groups in the sampled areas were Isoptera, Hymenoptera, and Coleoptera, the latter with the highest number of families. Principal component analysis revealed that the functional groups geophages/bioturbators, phytophages/pests, and predators/parasites were associated with clayey-silty soils, and detritivores/decomposers with sandy soils. Soil management systems change the community structure of edaphic macroinvertebrates in comparison with the natural Cerrado condition. No-tillage system promotes greater abundance and species richness than conventional tillage, and minimizes the impact of agricultural systems on edaphic macrofauna biodiversity.
