ABSTRACT Nutrient prediction models applied to tree species from Brazilian Caatinga can be a crucial tool in understanding this biome. The study aimed to fit a mixed model to predict nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) content in tree species native to the Caatinga biome located in Floresta municipality, Pernambuco State – PE, Brazil. The following species were considered the area’s most important and evaluated in the present study: Poincianella bracteosa (Tul.) L.P.Queiroz, Mimosa ophtalmocentra Mart. ex Benth, Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart, Cnidoscolus quercifolius (Mull. Arg.) Pax. & Hoffm, and Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil (Griseb.) Altschul. Four trees, representing the average circumference in each diameter class, were harvested for NPK quantification. The Spurr model was evaluated for NPK prediction, and species inclusion as a random effect was significant (p > 0.05) in all models. The Spurr model with fixed and random effects presented better statistics than fixed-effect models in all parameters for all nutrients. Generated NPK predicting equations can be a handy tool to understand the impact of wood extraction over Caatinga’s biogeochemical cycles and guide forest management strategies in semi-arid regions of the world.

RESUMO Modelos de predição de nutrientes aplicados a espécies arbóreas da Caatinga brasileira podem ser uma ferramenta crucial para a compreensão do bioma. O estudo teve como objetivo ajustar um modelo misto para prever os teores de nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P) e potássio (K) em espécies arbóreas nativas do bioma Caatinga localizadas no município de Floresta, Pernambuco – PE, Brasil. As seguintes espécies foram as mais importantes da área e avaliadas no presente estudo: Poincianella bracteosa (Tul.) L.P.Queiroz, Mimosa ophtalmocentra Mart. ex Benth, Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart, Cnidoscolus quercifolius (Mull. Arg.) Pax. & Hoffm e Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil (Griseb.) Altschul. Quatro árvores, representando a circunferência média em cada classe de diâmetro, foram colhidas para quantificação de NPK. O modelo Spurr foi avaliado para predição de NPK e a inclusão de espécies como efeito aleatório foi significativa (p > 0,05) em todos os modelos. O modelo de Spurr com efeitos fixos e aleatórios apresentou estatísticas melhores que os modelos de efeito fixo em todos os parâmetros para todos os nutrientes. As equações de previsão de NPK geradas podem ser uma ferramenta útil para entender o impacto da extração de madeira sobre os ciclos biogeoquímicos da Caatinga e orientar estratégias de manejo florestal em regiões semiáridas do mundo.

Resumo Estudos que visam quantificar e analisar a dinâmica do crescimento da vegetação, fornecem informações para o manejo e conservação das florestas ao longo do tempo. Sendo assim, o objetivo principal deste trabalho foi analisar a dinâmica e o crescimento em área basal, em diferentes intervalos (2008-2016; 2008-2017 e 2008-2019), em duas áreas com diferentes históricos de perturbação e uso, no município de Floresta - PE. Foram instaladas 40 parcelas permanentes de 20 m x 20 m, com coleta de dados do ano de 2008 até 2019, em duas áreas, A1: menos conservada e A2: mais conservada, em que foram medidos os indivíduos e fustes com circunferência a 1,30 m do solo ≥ 6 cm. Foi verificado o número de indivíduos e fustes por espécies, calculado a área basal nos diferentes intervalos, taxas de ingressos, mortalidade, crescimento bruto e líquido, incluindo e excluindo ingressos. Foi constatado decréscimo em número de indivíduos e fustes ao longo dos anos para ambas as áreas, no entanto, houve aumento na área basal da A1, 2008: 3,1 m2.ha-1; 2016: 3,8 m2.ha-1; 2017: 3,9 m2.ha-1 e 2019: 4,6 m2.ha-1, já na A2 ocorreu o inverso, com área basal inicial de 8,3 m2.ha-1; 6,4 m2.ha-1; 6,4 m2.ha-1; e 7,0 m2.ha-1, respectivamente, verificou-se ainda que nos anos de menos chuvas a área basal teve valor médio menor, o inverso é verdadeiro, maior volume precipitado significa aumento de área basal. Apesar da A1 ter se sobressaído, as altas taxas de mortalidade de fustes e indivíduos em todos os intervalos estudados fez com que a área basal diminuísse gradativamente, o crescimento líquido foi afetado, além disso nos anos de menores precipitações pluviométricas houve valores menores da área basal, evidenciando a dependência climática, impactando na dinâmica florestal.

Abstract Studies that aim to quantify and analyze the dynamics of vegetation growth provide information for the management and conservation of forests over time. Therefore, the main objective of this work was to analyze the dynamics and growth in basal area, at different intervals (2008-2016; 2008-2017 and 2008-2019), in two areas with different disturbance and use histories, in the municipality of Forest - PE. Forty permanent plots measuring 20 mx 20 m were installed, with data collection from the year 2008 to 2019, in two areas, A1: less conserved and A2: more conserved, in which individuals and shafts with a circumference of 1.30 were measured m from the ground ≥ 6 cm. The number of individuals and stems per species was verified, calculating the basal area at different intervals, rates of entry, mortality, gross and net growth, including and excluding entries. A decrease in the number of individuals and stems over the years was observed for both areas, however, there was an increase in the basal area of the A1, 2008: 3.1 m2.1.6ha-1; 2016: 3.8 m2.1.6ha-1; 2017: 3.9 m2.1.6ha-1 and 2019: 4.6 m2.1.6ha-1, while in (A2) the reverse occurred, with an initial basal area of 8.3 m2.1.6ha-1 ; 6.4 m2.1.6ha-1; 6.4 m2.1.6ha-1; and 7.0 m2.1.6ha-1, respectively, it was also found that in years with less rain the basal area had a lower mean value, the inverse is true, higher precipitated volume means an increase in basal area. Although A1 stood out, the high mortality rates of stems and individuals in all studied intervals caused the basal area to gradually decrease, the net growth was affected. basal, showing climate dependence, impacting forest dynamics.

Resumen La clasificación de la madera aserrada es una de las actividades más subjetivas de la fase final del proceso de aserrado de trozas en los aserríos. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo proponer herramientas de auxilio en la clasificación de madera aserrada de coníferas. El estudio se realizó en el aserrío Combate de Tenerías de la Empresa Forestal Integral (EFI) Macurije, Pinar del Río, Cuba. Los datos utilizados proceden de 259 tablas de Pinus caribaea var. caribaea clasificadas siguiendo las exigencias (24 variables) y clases establecidas por el clasificador de madera aserrada de coníferas utilizado en Cuba. Se procedió al ajuste de un modelo de Regresión Logística Multinomial Ordinal (RLMO) y al entrenamiento de Redes Neuronales Artificiales (RNAs). Los parámetros del modelo RLMO fueron estimados usando el método de máxima verosimilitud optimizada con el algoritmo de Newton-Raphson. El entrenamiento de las RNAs se realizó con el algoritmo Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS). El problema de multicolinearidad, casi siempre presente en modelaciones con numerosas variables predictivas, fue abordado con el análisis factorial, utilizando los factores retenidos como entradas de los modelos. Con base en el porcentaje de aciertos en la clasificación, la RNA RBF 24-8-4 fue superior a las ecuaciones de regresión logística ordinal.

Abstract Lumber classification is one of the most subjective activities of the final phase of log sawing process in sawmills. The objective of this research was to propose tools that assist in conifers lumber grading. The research was carried out at the sawmill Combate de Tenerías of Macurije integrated forest company, Pinar del Río, Cuba. The data used comes from 259 lumber pieces of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea classified following the requirements (24 variables) and classes established by the conifers lumber grader used in Cuba. We proceeded to fit a Multinomial and Ordinal Logistic Regression (MOLR) model and train Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). The parameters of the MOLR model were estimated using the maximum likelihood method optimized with the Newton Raphson algorithm. ANNs were trained with Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) algorithm. The multicollinearity problem, usually present in modeling with numerous predictive variables, was addressed with factor analysis, using the factors retained as inputs to the models. Based on the percentage of correct classification, the ANN RBF 24-8-4 was superior to the ordinal logistic regression equations.

Abstract This work was carried out with the objective of evaluating, technically and economically, timber extraction in plantations of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea of Macurije forest company located in the province of Pinar del Río, Cuba. For this, time and movement studies were carried out using "productivity" and "unit cost" of wood extraction as evaluation criteria. The skidders and oxen performance evaluation, in different harvest systems and slope classes, was performed through univariate and multivariate (cost and/or productivity) factorial experiments (3 × 3 × 2), following a randomized block design (B1 = 21 years and B2 = 32 years), with the factors "machinery" and "slope" with three and "harvest systems" with two levels. The feasibility and usefulness of the multivariate approach in the evaluation of timber extraction were evidenced; timber extraction is more viable with the tree length harvest systems in stands of 32 years. The interaction machinery-slope had a significant influence on the variation of the whole cost-productivity. The John Deere 548E skidder, for presenting lower unit cost and higher productivity than the J-80A, is recommended for semi-mechanized timber extraction. The most viable is the yoke of oxen because of its greater profitability. However, due to its low productivity, it can only be used in combination with other machines or during periods of decelerated production. Its exclusive use is impracticable since it would imply significantly increasing its quantity to compensate for its low productivity.

Resumen El presente trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de evaluar, técnica y económicamente la extracción de madera en plantaciones de Pinus caribaea var. caribaea de la empresa forestal Macurije, ubicada en la provincia de Pinar del Río, Cuba. Para ello, se llevaron a cabo estudios de tiempos y movimientos teniendo como criterios de evaluación "productividad" y "costo unitario" de extracción de la madera. La evaluación del desempeño de los tractores articulados (skidders) y de las yuntas de bueyes en diferentes sistemas de aprovechamiento y clases de pendiente se realizó por medio de experimentos factoriales (3 × 3 × 2) univariados y multivariados (costo unitario e/o productividad), siguiendo un diseño al azar en bloques (B1 = 21 años y B2 = 32 años), con los factores "maquinaria" y "pendiente" con tres niveles y "sistema de aprovechamiento" con dos niveles. Se evidenciaron la viabilidad y la utilidad del enfoque multivariado en la evaluación de la extracción de madera; es más viable extraer la madera con el sistema de tronco entero en plantaciones de 32 años. La interacción maquinaria-pendiente tuvo influencia significativa en la variación del conjunto costo-productividad. El skidder John Deere 548E, por presentar menor costo unitario y mayor productividad que el J-80A, es el recomendado para la extracción semimecanizada de la madera. El más viable es la yunta de bueyes por su mayor rentabilidad. Sin embargo, por su baja productividad, solo podrá ser utilizado en combinación con otras máquinas o en periodos de producción desacelerada. Su uso exclusivo no es práctico ya que implicaría aumentar significativamente su cantidad para compensar su baja productividad.

Resumo Procurou-se estabelecer a relação entre o Índice de área foliar no campo (IAFc) de plantios clonais de Eucalyptus saligna Smith e três diferentes Índices de Vegetação (IV) obtidos de uma imagem Landsat 8/OLI: Índice de Vegetação da Diferença Normalizada (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, em inglês - NDVI), Índice da Razão Simples (Simple Ratio Index - SRI) e Índice de Vegetação Ajustado para o Solo (Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index - SAVI), com o objetivo de selecionar o melhor estimador do IAF por sensoriamento remoto (IAFSR), obtendo assim a espacialização IAF nos talhões. O IAFc foi obtido utilizando o equipamento LAI-2000 e seu comportamento foi analisado em diferentes idades. Os índices de vegetação foram obtidos por meio de aritmética das bandas 4 e 5 do sensor. A análise de regressão linear simples foi utilizada para ajustar o modelo de estimativa de IAFSR (IAFSRi= β0 + β1 . IVi + εi), sendo os critérios de escolha as estatísticas de R2aj%, Syx% e análise de resíduos. Os resultados mostraram que o índice que melhor estimou o IAFSR foi o SRI (IAFSR=-5,6159 + 0,9716 . SRI), com R2aj%=67,0 e Syx%=12,5. Todos os modelos ajustados mostraram tendência em sobrestimar o IAF em valores inferiores a dois e subestimar o IAF a partir de valores superiores a 3,5 (NDVI e SRI) e superiores a três para SAVI. As equações obtidas para as diferentes idades não produziram melhora nas estimativas de IAFSR.

Abstract The relationship between the ground Leaf area index (LAIg) from clonal plantations of Eucalyptus saligna Smith and three different vegetation indices (VI): Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Simple Ratio Index (SRI) and Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) was evaluated in order to select the best IV to estimate the IAF by remote sensing (LAIRS), and obtaining the spatial distribution of LAI in the stands. LAIg was measured using LAI-2000 and its behavior was examined at different ages. The vegetation indices were obtained from a Landsat 8/OLI through the arithmetic of the bands 4 and 5. The linear regression analysis was used to adjust the model LAIRS (LAIRSi= β0 + β1 . IVi + εi), and the criteria for selecting the best equation were the statistics R2aj%, Syx% and residual analysis. The results showed that the best vegetation index to estimate IAFSR was SRI (LAIRS =-5.6159 + 0.9716 . SRI ), resulting R2adj%=67.0 and Syx=12.5%. The results of all adjusted models tended towards overestimation of LAI in values lower than two and underestimation in values above 3.5 (NDVI e SRI) and above three for SAVI. The equations for different ages produced no improvement in LAIRS.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to obtain regression equations and artificial neural networks (ANNs) for prediction and prognosis of the yield of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea Barrett & Golfari. The data used for modeling comes from measuring the variables diameter at breast height (DBH) and total height (Ht) in 550 temporary plots and 14 circular permanent plots with 500 m2 in Pinus caribaea var. caribaea plantations, aged between 3 and 41 years old. In growth prediction, the results indicated Schumacher model as the best fit to the data. On prognosis, the modified Buckman system was better than Clutter’s. ANNs presented a similar performance to the Buckman model in volume prognosis, however these were superior for basal area prognosis.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to analyze the dynamics of the community and shrub-woody individuals in a dry forest in the Brazilian semiarid region after 29 years of vegetation suppression. Individuals with a circumference at 1.30 m above the ground (CBH) ≥ 6 cm were counted and their heights and CBH were measured in 40 permanent plots on three monitoring occasions (2011, 2013 and 2015). In the period between 2011 and 2015 the area presented a below average precipitation for the last 30 years. Phytosociological parameters and diversity were estimated. The density of individuals decreased from 2011 to 2015 (p < 0.01) and the basal area was similar. During the monitoring period, Poincianella bracteosa stood out in density, frequency and dominance. Phytosociological changes were more evident for an interval of four years. After 29 years of vegetation suppression, the community diversity is within the values for preserved semiarid (caatinga) vegetation. A long period of drought was the main disturbance factor affecting vegetation dynamics.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the carbon content (C) in stem, leaves and thin and thick branches of eight species in an area of Caatinga, municipality of Floresta, Pernambuco, Brazil. To do so, dry biomass samples of at least 15 trees distributed into five diametric classes collected from the study area and fractionated in laboratory were used for each of the eight evaluated species. Carbon content was determined using CHNS/O elemental analyzer. Average carbon content of 46.4% is recommended for Anadenanthera colubrina, Aspidosperma pyrifolium, Bauhinia cheilantha, Cnidoscolus quercifolius, Mimosa ophthalmocentra and Mimosa tenuiflora, without need for specific values for each compartment. Croton heliotropiifolius and Poincianella bracteosa require distinct values per compartment for individuals in order to avoid trends in carbon stock estimates.

Abstract In this paper, procedures are proposed for determining the technical, economic and technical-economic rotations in forest plantations. The classical criteria of maximum productivity were determined: annual average increase and maximum land expected value. For the determination of the rotations, in addition to using the analytical tools (by adjusting forest growth models) and graphical tools conventionally used, mathematical programming models were proposed: model R-01 based on integer linear programming for the determination of the mono-criteria rotations and the models R-02 and R-03 based on weighted integer goal programming and lexicographic integer goal programming, respectively, for multi-criteria rotation determination. The validity of the proposed models was verified through the consistency of the technical, economic and technical-economic rotation ages determined by diverse site index in Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea Barr. & Golf. plantations. The technically optimal rotations varied between 31 years and 35 years according to the site index and the economically optimal rotations between 18 years and 21 years. It was noticed that the technical-economic rotations are highly influenced by the criterion of greater importance in both approaches. The results found for Pinus caribaea var. caribaea with these approaches indicated intermediate rotations between the technical and the economic ones, these varying between 23 years and 25 years.

Resumen En el presente trabajo se proponen procedimientos de determinación de los turnos técnicos, económicos y técnico-económicos en plantaciones forestales. Se procedió a la determinación de los criterios clásicos de máxima productividad: incremento medio anual y máximo valor esperado de la tierra. Para la determinación de los turnos, además de utilizar las herramientas analíticas (por ajuste de modelos de crecimiento forestal) y gráficas convencionalmente utilizadas, se propusieron modelos de programación matemática: el modelo R-01 basado en la programación lineal entera, para la determinación de los turnos monocriterios, y los modelos R-02 y R-03 basados en la programación por metas ponderada entera y en la programación por metas lexicográficas entera, respectivamente, para la determinación del turno con múltiples objetivos. La validez de los modelos propuestos fue verificada a través de la consistencia y realismo biológico de las edades de rotación técnicas, económicas y técnico-económicas determinadas por índice de sitio en plantaciones de Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea Barr. & Golf. de la empresa Macurije. Los turnos técnicamente óptimos variaron entre 31 años y 35 años según la calidad del sitio y los turnos económicamente óptimos entre 18 años y 21 años. Se percibió que los turnos técnico-económicos son altamente influenciados por el criterio de mayor importancia, tanto en el enfoque de metas ponderadas como en el de metas lexicográficas. Los resultados encontrados para el Pinus caribaea var. caribaea con esos enfoques indicaron turnos intermedios entre los técnicos y los económicos, variando estos entre 23 años y 25 años.

ABSTRACT The present study was carried out with the objective of obtaining regression equations and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for the prognosis of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea survival in Macurije Forest Company, province of Pinar del Río - Cuba. The data used in the modeling comes from the measurement of the variables age (years) and survival (density) in circular permanent plots of 500 m² established in P. caribaea var. caribaea plantations. The study was divided into three stages: i) Adjustment of survival traditional regression models; ii) Training of ANNs for survival prognosis, including categorical variables «site» and «Basic Units of Forest Production»; iii) Comparison of regression equations performance with those of ANNs in survival prognosis. The best models and ANNs were selected based on: adjusted determination coefficient - R2 aj (%), square root of the mean square error - RMSE (%) and residue distribution analysis. The evaluation of the models goodness of fit also included the verification of the assumptions of normality, homocedasticity and absence of serial autocorrelation in the residues by Kolmogorov-Smirnov, White and Durbin-Watson tests, respectively. The model of Pienaar and Shiver, in 1981 turned out to be the best fit in survival prognosis. The ANN MLP 13-10-1 was the one with the best generalization capacity and presented a performance similar to that of Pienaar and Shiver equation.

RESUMEN El presente estudio fue realizado con el objetivo de obtener ecuaciones de regresión y Redes Neuronales Artificiales (RNAs) para la proyección de la supervivencia de Pinus caribaea var. caribaea en la empresa forestal Macurije, provincia de Pinar del Río, Cuba. Los datos utilizados en las modelaciones provienen de la medición de las variables edad (años) y supervivencia (densidad) en parcelas permanentes circulares de 500 m², establecidas en plantaciones de P. caribaea var. caribaea. El estudio se dividió en tres etapas: 1) Ajuste de modelos de regresión tradicionales para proyección de supervivencia; 2) Entrenamientos de RNAs para la proyección de supervivencia, incluyendo variables categóricas «sitio» y «Unidades Básicas de Producción Forestal»; 3) Comparación de los desempeños de las ecuaciones de regresión con los de las RNAs en la proyección de la supervivencia. Los mejores modelos y RNAs fueron seleccionados y basados en: coeficiente de determinación ajustado -R2 aj (%), raíz cuadrada del error medio cuadrático - RMSE (%) y análisis de distribución de residuos. La evaluación de la bondad de ajuste de los modelos también incluyó la verificación de los supuestos de normalidad, homocedasticidad y ausencia de autocorrelación serial en los residuos por las pruebas de Kolmogorov-Smirnov, White y Durbin-Watson, respectivamente. El modelo de Pienaar y Shiver en 1981 resultó ser el de mejor ajuste en la proyección de la supervivencia. La RNA de arquitectura MLP 13-10-1 fue la de mejor capacidad de generalización y presentó un desempeño similar al de la ecuación obtenida del ajuste del modelo de Pienaar y Shiver.

RESUMO Objetivou-se quantificar o conteúdo de nutrientes nos componentes da biomassa da parte aérea das espécies de maior valor de importância em duas áreas de Caatinga e avaliar a eficiência dessas plantas no uso desses nutrientes. A pesquisa foi realizada na fazenda Itapemirim, no município de Floresta - PE, onde foram estudadas duas áreas de vegetação de Caatinga em fases distintas de sucessão ecológica, apresentando características distintas, uma em estágio de regeneração e outra preservada. Na amostragem foi realizado um inventário inicial se lançando 40 parcelas de 400 m2 em cada área, tendo como nível de inclusão CAP ≥ 6,0 cm. Para análise da biomassa foram utilizadas as cinco espécies de maior valor de importância de cada área, a escolha dos indivíduos foi de forma aleatória e cada planta escolhida teve medida sua circunferência a altura do peito e na base. No processo de pesagem e amostragem dos componentes da parte aérea, as árvores escolhidas foram derrubadas e em seguida foram pesados todos seus componentes e retirada uma amostra para realização das análises químicas. Nesse estudo observou-se que o levantamento inicial nas duas áreas a Poincianella bracteosa foi a espécies que apresentou maior conteúdo de nutrientes na biomassa total acima do solo em ambas as áreas, e o componente galho foi o de maior contribuição no conteúdo de nutrientes na biomassa total, sendo N o nutriente mais acumulado no componente folha, e o Ca nos componentes lenhosos em ambas as áreas, já os nutrientes que apresentaram a maior eficiência de utilização nutricional nas espécies estudadas em ambas as áreas, foram o S e o P.

ABSTRACT It was aimed to know the content of mineral nutrients in the components of the biomass of the aerial part of the species of the biggest value of importance in two areas of Caatinga and to evaluate the efficiency of these plants in the use of these nutrients. The research was carried through Itapemirim farm in Floresta, Pernambuco state, where two areas of vegetation of Caatinga inside the farm were studied, presenting distinct characteristics, one in period of training of regeneration, and the other one was preserved. In the sampling, an initial inventory was made launching 40 parcels of 400m2 in each area, having as level of inclusion CBH ≥ 6.0 cm. For the analysis of biomass, it was used the five species of the biggest value of importance of each area, the choice of the individuals was at random and each chosen plant had measured its circumference the height of the chest and in the base. In the process of weighing and sampling the components of the aerial part, the chosen trees had been knocked down and after that, their components were all weighed and a sample was removed for the chemical analyses. In this study, it was observed that the initial survey in the two areas, bracteosa Poincianella was the species that presented greater content of nutrients in the total biomass above the ground in both the areas. The component twig was of bigger contribution in the content of nutrients in the total biomass, being N the accumulated nutrient more in the component leaf, and in timber components in both the areas, once the nutrients that presented the greatest efficiency for their use in the plants studied in both the areas, were S and P.

RESUMO Os volumes de 1875 árvores de um plantio de eucalipto foram rigorosamente cubadas pelo processo de Smalian, conhecendo-se assim o volume total do plantio que é de 166,14 m3. As árvores foram localizadas em um plano cartesiano (X, Y) e duas técnicas geoestatísticas foram aplicadas: a krigagem e cokrigagem. Para a cokrigagem foi utilizada como variável secundária o diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP), variável com alta correlação com o volume de madeira (Vol) do eucalipto. Três tamanhos de amostras foram retirados - 200, 100 e 50 -, e as estimativas dos volumes foram realizadas para cada uma das amostras usando as duas técnicas geoestatísticas. O tamanho da amostra não influiu nas estimativas do volume total do plantio. A cokrigagem forneceu melhores resultados do que a krigagem para as menores amostras. Os mapas da distribuição espacial do volume foram construídos.

ABSTRACT The volumes of 1875 eucalyptus plantation trees were strictly cubed by Smalian process, thus knowing the total volume of planting of 166.14 m3, the trees were located on a plane (X, Y) and two geostatistical techniques were applied, kriging and cokriging. For cokriging was used as the secondary variable (DBH) diameter at breast height of the entire population, variable with high correlation with the volume of Eucalyptus wood. Three sizes of samples were taken - 200, 100 and 50 - and the estimates of the volumes were performed for each sample using both geostatistical techniques. The sample size did not affect the estimates of the total volume of planting. The cokriging provided better results than kriging for the smaller samples. The maps of spatial distribution volume were constructed.

RESUMO A Validação Cruzada (VC) é utilizada para verificação de erros de estimativas em krigagem. Para quantificar o erro cometido pela VC, um plantio de 1875 árvores de eucaliptos foi cubado rigorosamente. Um mapa do volume/árvore foi construído por krigagem e gerou 8736 pontos. Amostras de tamanhos 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 e 350 foram retiradas dos 8736 pontos por amostragem sistemática e aleatória e mapas foram construídos por krigagem. Uma reta foi ajustada ao gráfico Estimados x Observados. O R2, o intercepto e o coeficiente angular foram os parâmetros de erros. A VC não forneceu resultados confiáveis para o R2 na amostragem sistemática com 100, 150, 200 e 250 amostras e confiáveis para o R2 em todas as amostragens aleatórias. A amostragem sistemática apresentou bons resultados verdadeiros, o R2 > 0,70 com 200 amostras, e a amostragem aleatória só apresentou R2 > 0,70 com 250 amostras.

ABSTRACT Cross-validation (CV) is used for error checking in kriging estimates. To quantify the error of a CV, 1875 eucalyptus trees were rigorously planted. A volume/tree map was constructed by kriging, generating 8736 points. Samples with different sizes (100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350) were taken from the 8736 points through systematic and random sampling and volume maps were constructed by kriging. A straight line was fitted to Estimated x Observed graph. The R2, the intercept and the slope were the errors parameters. The CV did not provide reliable results for the R2 in the systematic sampling with 100, 150, 200 and 250 samples, but it was reliable for the R2 in all randomized trials. The systematic sampling had good real results, R2 > 0.70 with 200 samples, while random sampling showed R2 > 0.70 only with 250 samples.

RESUMO O objetivo da pesquisa foi verificar se a estimativa do volume individual de madeira por árvore realizada pela krigagem é influenciada pelo tipo de amostragem. Um povoamento com 1.875 árvores de eucalipto foi demarcado em um plano cartesiano (X, Y) e cubado rigorosamente pelo método de Smalian. Foram retiradas seis amostragens, cada uma contendo 106 árvores. Duas amostragens por gradeamento, duas aleatórias e duas por grade aglomerada. Os semivariogramas para cada uma das amostragens e mapas do volume individual das árvores foram construídos por krigagem. Onze tipos de erros foram comparados e ranqueados. A amostragem aleatória apresentou os melhores resultados e a amostragem grade aglomerada, os piores.

ABSTRACT The objective was to verify if the estimate of the individual volume of wood per tree conducted by kriging is influenced by the type of sampling. A settlement with 1875 eucalyptus trees was marked on a Cartesian plane (X, Y) and strictly cubed using the Smalian method. Six samples were taken, each containing 106 trees. Two samples per railing, two random samples and two by crowded grid. The semivariograms were constructed for each of the sampling and maps of the individual volume of trees were constructed by kriging. Eleven types of errors were compared and ranked. Random sampling showed the best results and clustered sampling grid showed the worst results.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi ajustar e selecionar funções de densidade de probabilidade que descrevam a distribuição diamétrica das espécies Poincianella bracteosa Tul, Mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth, Manihot carthaginensis subsp. glaziovii (Muell. Arg.) Allem e para o conjunto de espécies lenhosas ocorridas em uma área de Caatinga, no município de Floresta, semiárido pernambucano. O estudo foi realizado em uma área com histórico de perturbação com aproximadamente 10 ha, na qual foram instaladas 20 parcelas de (20 x 20 m), de forma sistemática. Os indivíduos lenhosos com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) ≥ 6 cm, foram identificados botanicamente e tiveram seus diâmetros e alturas mensuradas. Foram testadas as funções probabilísticas de Weibull 3 parâmetros, Sb Johnson, Normal, Log-normal, Gamma, Beta e Meyer, utilizando-se um intervalo de classe de 2 cm e o teste de Kolmogorov-Smirnov foi empregado como critério de seleção. Verificou-se que a função de Weibull 3 parâmetros, foi a que melhor descreveu a distribuição diamétrica de Mimosa ophthalmocentra e Manihot carthaginensis, além de melhor descrever também o conjunto total de espécies. Para Poincianella. Bracteosa, a função ideal foi Sb Johnson. A existência de forte perturbação, observada na área de estudo, é explicada pela distribuição unimodal, refletida nas três espécies, portanto, a referida área merece devida atenção para que tal processo cesse.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to adjust and select probability density functions that describe the diametric distribution of Poincianella bracteosa Tul, Mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth e Manihot carthaginensis subsp. glaziovii (Muell. Arg.) Allem species, and for this species as whole, which occured in Caatinga biome, in the municipality of Floresta, in the semiarid region of Pernambuco state. The study was conducted in an area with disturbance history with approximately 10 ha, where it was installed 20 plots (20 x 20m), in a symmetric way, where all the trees with circumference at the breast right (CBH) ≥ 6cm were identified and their diameters and heights were measured. It was tested the probabilistic functions such as: Weibull 3 parameters, Jonson's Sb, Normal, Log-nomal, Gamma, Beta and Meyer. A class interval of 2 cm was used and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used as the selection criterium. It was found that the Weibull 3 parameters was the best function described the diametric distribution for Mimosa ophthalmocentra e Manihot carthaginensis. For Poincianella bracteosa Johnson's Sb was the ideal one. The existence of strong disturbance observed in the study area, is explained by a unimodal distribution, reflected in the three species, so that the area deserves due attention so that this process ceases.
