RESUMO Trata-se do primeiro registro de Ceratium furcoides no reservatório Nova Avanhandava, São Paulo, cuja as amostras foram coletadas em três estações (E1, E2, E3) em março e outubro dos anos de 2015 e 2016. Análises físico-químicas da água foram realizadas. O reservatório foi classificado, de acordo com o cálculo do IET como mesotrófico. O primeiro registro da espécie ocorreu em outubro de 2015 na E3 e, no ano seguinte, verificou-se a dispersão para as outras estações. A maior densidade da espécie (28 org mL-1) foi registrada em outubro de 2016. Valores semelhantes foram documentados em Furnas (MG) e Ilha Solteira (SP). Os baixos valores de densidade de C. furcoides e a presença de grupos fitoplanctônicos com densidades superiores (Cyanobacteria e Cryptophyceae), sugerem que a colonização da espécie está no início. Assim, estudos sobre a dispersão, dinâmica e interação de C. furcoides com o fitoplâncton e os potenciais impactos sobre as comunidades aquáticas são essenciais para entender as respostas desta espécie às condições ambientais.

ABSTRACT This is the first record of Ceratium furcoides in the Nova Avanhandava reservoir, São Paulo, whose samples were collected in three stations (S1, S2, S3) in March and October of the years 2015 and 2016. Physico-chemical analyzes of the water were performed. The reservoir was classified, according to the TSI, as mesotrophic. The first record of the species occurred in October 2015 at S3 and, the following year, the dispersion for the other stations was verified. The highest density of the species (28 org mL-1) was recorded in October 2016. Similar values were documented in Furnas (MG) and Ilha Solteira (SP). The low density values of C. furcoides and the presence of phytoplankton groups with higher densities (Cyanobacteria and Cryptophyceae) suggest that the colonization of the species is at an early stage. Thus, studies about dispersion, dynamics, and interaction of C. furcoides with phytoplankton and the potential impacts on aquatic communities are essential to understand the responses of this species to environmental conditions.

Resumo O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar a variação espacial e temporal das variáveis físicas e químicas da água na zona de influência da tilapicultura em tanques-redes (20x20x3 m) no parque aquícola Ponte Pensa (Reservatório de Ilha Solteira), abrangendo os períodos pré e pós-introdução da produção. Amostras da água foram obtidas mensalmente (agosto/2011 a julho/2013) na subsuperfície em três estações de amostragem: jusante da área de criação (S1), local de criação (S2) e a montante (S3) (n=72). Foram avaliadas a temperatura da água, pH, oxigênio dissolvido, transparência, turbidez, condutividade elétrica, íon amônio e fósforo total. Utilizou-se a PCA para análise conjunta dos dados. A PCA explicou 61% da variabilidade conjunta dos dados nos dois primeiros componentes. As atividades da piscicultura em tanques-rede provocaram alterações temporais, detectadas especialmente a partir de janeiro de 2013, e sutis alterações espaciais nas variáveis físicas e química da água. O íon amônio e o fósforo total foram as variáveis que mais indicaram a influência desta atividade na qualidade da água, confirmados pela PCA que demostrou duas fases temporais distintas: Fase 1- em que as condições limnológicas antes da produção de peixes em tanques-rede foram caracterizadas pelas maiores concentrações de oxigênio dissolvido e altas temperaturas; e Fase 2 - período pós-produção, que foi caracterizada pelas concentrações mais elevadas de fósforo total e íon amônio.

Abstract This study analyzes spatial and temporal variations in physical and chemical water variables due to the influence of fish culture in a cage system (20x20x3 m) in Ponte Pensa Aquaculture Park (Solteira Island Reservoir), before and after cage installation. Water samples were collected on a monthly basis in the subsurface of three sampling sites (August/2011 to July/2013): downstream from the farming site (S1), at the farming site (S2), and upstream from the farming site (S3) (n = 72). Water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, transparency, turbidity, electrical conductivity, ammonium ion and total phosphorus were assessed. The principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to joint analysis data. PCA results explained the 61% joint variability in data of the first two components. Fish farming in cages caused significant temporal changes, mainly in January 2013, as well as sudden spatial changes in water physical and chemical variables. Fish culture influenced the quality of the water; such influence was mainly indicated by variations in ammonium ions and in total phosphorus concentrations, which were confirmed through PCA application. PCA results showed two distinct temporal phases: Phase 1 - prior to fish-cage farming, when limnological conditions were characterized by the highest dissolved oxygen concentrations and by high temperatures; Phase 2 - post-production period, when limnological conditions were characterized by the highest total phosphorus and ammonium ion concentrations.

Resumo Objetivo O presente artigo visa avaliar quais as espécies podem ser descritores biológicos e avaliar as mudanças na comunidade fitoplanctônica durante a etapa final de crescimento de tilápia-do-Nilo (Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus 1758), relacionando com o manejo de produção e com as variáveis limnológicas. Métodos Amostras da água de abastecimento e do centro do viveiro foram utilizadas para as análises limnológicas e para avaliar estrutura da comunidade fitoplanctônica. Resultados No viveiro de piscicultura, registramos aumento de 1.5 vezes nas concentrações de nitrogênio e sólidos totais suspensos e na ordem de 2 vezes incremento de fósforo comparado com a água de abastecimento. Durante o ciclo de produção (113 dias), foram registrados 134 táxons distribuídos em 10 classes taxonômicas. Chlorophyceae (60 táxons) e Cyanobacteria (26 táxons) foram as classes com maior riqueza e abundância de espécies. Os maiores biovolumes foram registradas no centro do viveiro. Espécies nanoplanctônicas foram as mais abundantes e representaram 35% das espécies descritoras da comunidade fitoplanctônica do centro do viveiro. Conclusões A instabilidade do sistema, quanto ao controle do tempo de retenção hidráulica como consequência do método de criação utilizado, favoreceu a presença de espécies com pequenas dimensões celulares. Os decréscimos de temperatura do ar e da água registrados na etapa final de crescimento possivelmente favoreceram o aumento e manutenção das diatomáceas.

Abstract Aim Our objectives were to recognize species that can serve as biological descriptors and evaluate the changes in the phytoplankton community throughout the grow-out period of the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus 1758) related to management practices and to limnological variables. Methods Samples from the inflow water and the fishpond were collected for the analysis of limnological variables and the structure of the phytoplankton community. Results In the fishpond, we registered a 1.5 times increase in nitrogen and total suspended solids and a 2 times increase in phosphorous compared to the inflow water. During the grow-out period (113 days), 134 taxa belonging to 10 taxonomic classes were registered. Chlorophyceae (60 taxa) and Cyanobacteria (26 taxa) showed the greatest diversity and abundance of species. The largest biovolumes were recorded in the fishpond. Nanoplanktonic species were the most abundant and represented 35% of the descriptor species in the phytoplankton community of the fishpond. Conclusions The instability of the system associated with the control of the hydraulic retention time as a consequence of management practices, favored the presence of species with small cellular dimensions. The decrease in air and water temperature registered at the end of the grow-out period probably favored the increase and persistence of diatoms. RESUMO Apresentamos as características morfológicas de populações de Isthmochloron neustonica bem como, sua abundância e a relação com algumas características ambientais em tanque de piscicultura. Trata-se do primeiro registro da espécie para o Estado de São Paulo e segunda citação para o Brasil. Isthmochloron neustonica foi descrita com hábito neustônico e no presente estudo, com amostragem para análise do fitoplâncton, foi registrada com elevada densidade, caracterizando floração de curta duração (intervalo de tempo de 15 dias), representando 59% da densidade total fitoplanctônica em 26 de maio de 2010, formando sobre a superfície da água uma película delicada e brilhante, em ambiente com alta concentração de nutrientes e no período seco e baixa temperatura. A espécie apresenta distribuição geográfica restrita a América do Sul, provavelmente em função de suas características biológicas, como células de pequeno tamanho e hábito neustônico, os poucos registros na literatura, pode dificultar a identificação e o registro da espécie em ambientes subtropicais.

ABSTRACT We present the morphometric characteristics of Isthmochloron neustonica populations as well as their abundance and the relationship with some environmental characteristics in a fishpond. This is the first record of the species in São Paulo State and second citation to Brazil. Isthmochloron neustonica was described in neustonic habit; in this study, with sampling for phytoplankton analysis, it was found in high density and short duration blooming (time interval up to 15 days). It represented 59% of total phytoplankton density on May 26, 2010, forming a delicate and bright film on the water surface, in an environment with high concentration of nutrients and associated with drought and low temperature. The species has a restricted range in South America, probably due to their biological characteristics, such as small cell size and neustonic habit. Few records in literature can also be one of the reasons that hampers the identification of the species in subtropical environments.

Resumo Objetivo: O trabalho descreve alguns parâmetros limnológicos de quatro reservatórios com estados tróficos diferentes (Billings, Guarapiranga, Jundiaí e Paiva Castro) da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo, Brasil, com o objetivo de caracterizar a qualidade da água nesses ambientes. Métodos As amostragens foram realizadas entre outubro de 2011 e setembro de 2012, na subsuperfície, no compartimento pelágico. Foram avaliadas características físicas e químicas da água e calculado o Índice de Estado Trófico (IET). Análise multivariada de Componentes Principais (ACP) foi utilizada ordenando os pontos e períodos de coleta em relação aos dados ambientais. Resultados Dois reservatórios foram classificados como eutróficos (Billings e Guarapiranga), um como mesotrófico (Jundiaí) e um como oligotrófico (Paiva Castro). As maiores concentrações de fósforo total, nitrogênio e clorofila-a foram registradas nos reservatórios eutróficos. Os menores valores de oxigênio dissolvido foram registrados no Guarapiranga. O tempo de residência no reservatório Paiva Castro foi muito baixo (um dia), enquanto que o maior valor foi registrado no reservatório Billings: 428 dias.

Abstract Aim: This paper describes some limnological variables of four reservoirs with different trophic status (Billings, Guarapiranga, Jundiaí and Paiva Castro) of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Brazil, aiming to characterize the water quality in these reservoirs. Methods Water sampling occurred between October 2011 and September 2012, on subsurface, at the pelagic compartment. Physical and chemical characteristics of water were evaluated, and the Trophic State Index (TSI) was calculated. Multivariate Principal Components Analysis (PCA) was used to ordinate sampling sites and periods in relation to environmental data. Results Two reservoirs were classified as eutrophic (Billings and Guarapiranga), one as mesotrophic (Jundiaí) and one as oligotrophic (Paiva Castro). The highest concentrations of total phosphorus, nitrogen and chlorophyll a were recorded in the eutrophic reservoirs. The lowest values of dissolved oxygen concentration were registered at Guarapiranga reservoir. Residence time in Paiva Castro reservoir was very low (one day); on the other hand, the highest value was recorded in Billings reservoir: 428 days.

RESUMO Trata do levantamento taxonômico das Oocystaceae (Chlorophyceae, Chlorococcales) dos ambientes lacustres do PEFI, Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga. O material examinado proveio de coletas de material perifítico e planctônico em diferentes sistemas aquáticos do PEFI, além da revisão de todo material citado para o Parque e depositado no Herbário Científico do Estado "Maria Eneyda P. Kauffmann Fidalgo" (SP). Foram identificadas 15 espécies distribuídas em sete gêneros (Franceia, Granulocystis, Lagerheimia, Nephrochlamys, Nephrocytium, Oocystis e Rhombocystis). As citações de Lagerheimia longiseta (Lemmermann) Printz, L. citriformis (Snow) Collins e Oocystis marssonii Lemmermann são pioneiras para o PEFI. O Lago das Garças foi o ambiente que apresentou a maior riqueza específica (nove táxons), provavelmente devido ao maior esforço de coleta realizado neste sistema.

ABSTRACT Taxonomic survey of the Oocystaceae (Chlorophyceae, Chlorococcales) present in the PEFI, Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga lacustrine systems. Material examined included periphyton and plankton from different aquatic systems within the PEFI, and revision of all material cited for the Parque area and deposited in the Herbário Científico do Estado "Maria Eneyda P. Kauffmann Fidalgo" (SP). Fifteen species were identified, which are distributed in 7 genera (Franceia, Granulocystis, Lagerheimia, Nephrochlamys, Nephrocytium, Oocystis, and Rhombocystis). Citations of Lagerheimia longiseta (Lemmermann) Printz, L. citriformis (Snow) Collins, and Oocystis marssonii Lemmermann are pioneer for the PEFI. Garças Pond was the system presenting the highest species richness (nine taxa) probably due to the greater sampling effort devoted to that system.

Resumo Apresenta-se uma síntese atualizada de informações sobre algas no Brasil objetivando refinar os dados reunidos até o presente, bem como avaliar os avanços sobre o conhecimento da diversidade de algas no país desde a publicação do Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos do Brasil. Os resultados de 2015 mostraram um acréscimo de 1.250 espécies (35.7%) a um total de 4.747 em relação a 2010. As classes mais diversas em número de espécies foram Bacillariophyceae, Conjugatophyceae, Florideophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae e Euglenophyceae. Bacillariophyceae e Cyanophyceae tiveram o maior acréscimo de espécies no intervalo de cinco anos. A região Sudeste e Sul foram as mais diversas, porém, as regiões Nordeste com os estados do Piauí e Sergipe e Centro-Oeste com os estados de Mato Grosso, Goiás e Distrito Federal destacaram-se no cenário da biodiversidade nacional. Apesar da escassez de taxonomistas e da infraestrutura limitada, os resultados obtidos evidenciaram um avanço significativo no conhecimento da diversidade de algas no país nesse período de cinco anos, iniciando uma mudança quanto as diferenças geográficas regionais.

Abstract An updated synthesis of cyanobacteria and algae information is presented for Brazil aiming to refine the data gathered to date and evaluate the progress of the biodiversity knowledge about these organisms in the country since the publication of the Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos do Brasil. The results of 2015 showed an increase of 1,250 species (35.7%) when compared to 2010, reaching a total of 4,747 species. The most diverse classes in species number were the Bacillariophyceae, Conjugatophyceae, Florideophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae and Euglenophyceae. Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae had the highest increase in species number in the five-year interval. The Southeast and South regions were the most diverse, however, the Northeast, with the states of Piauí and Sergipe, and the Central-west region, with Mato Grosso, Goiás and Distrito Federal, also stood out in the national algal biodiversity scenario. Despite the shortage of taxonomists and limited infrastructure, the results showed a significant improvement in the knowledge regarding the diversity of cyanobacteria and algae in the country during the study period, starting to even out regional geographical differences caused by subsampling.

Levantamento florístico das Golenkiniaceae e Micractiniaceae que ocorrem nos ambientes aquáticos do Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga. Dois gêneros de Golenkiniaceae (Golenkinia e Polyedriopsis) foram identificados, cada um com uma espécie; e dois gêneros (Golenkiniopsis e Micractinium) de Micractiniaceae, incluindo três espécies de Micractinium e duas de Golenkiniopsis. Micractinium foi o gênero taxonomicamente melhor representado, com três espécies: M. bornhemiense,M. crassisetum e M. pusillum. O Lago das Garças foi o ambiente em que se obteve o maior número de registros, por apresentar representantes de todas as espécies ora identificadas.

Taxonomic survey of representatives of families Golenkiniaceae and Micractiniaceae in the Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga aquatic systems. Two genera of Golenkiniaceae (Golenkinia and Polyedriopsis) were identified, each with a single species, and two other genera (Golenkiniopsis and Micractinium) of Micractiniaceae, being three of Micractinium and two of Golenkiniopsis. Micractinium was the best represented genus taxonomically, with three species: M. bornhemiense,M. crassisetum and M. pusillum. Garças Pond was the system that presented the highest number of species, including representatives of all species presently identified.

O presente estudo visou apresentar o biovolume de cianobactérias e algas fitoplanctônicas e perifíticas de reservatórios com diferentes estados tróficos do Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga, São Paulo, SP, Brasil. O estudo inclui uma proposta para determinação do biovolume de formas coloniais de Cyanobacteria como, por exemplo, Microcystis e Sphaerocavum. A lista de biovolume auxiliará os estudos sobre ecologia de algas, permitindo a aplicação dessa informação em trabalhos nessa área de estudo, além de servir de modelo comparativo em outros ecossistemas de região tropical. A lista inclui o biovolume de 568 táxons, incluindo informações sobre suas respectivas classes taxonômicas, máxima dimensão linear e razão superfície/volume.

The present study aimed at presenting the biovolume of planktonic and periphytic cyanobacteria and algae from reservoirs with different trophic status at Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga, São Paulo, São Paulo State, Brazil. The study includes a proposal for determining the biovolume of colonial forms of Cyanobacteria such as Microcystis and Sphaerocavum. The list of biovolume will contribute to algal ecology studies, allowing the application of this information to research in this area of knowledge, besides serving as a comparative model for other tropical ecosystems. The list comprises the biovolume of 568 taxa, including information on their taxonomic classes, maximum linear dimension and surface/volume ratio.

Foi realizado o levantamento das Scenedesmaceae em 10 pesqueiros da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP). As amostras foram coletadas na sub-superfície por meio de arrasto horizontal com rede de plâncton (20 μm), em dois períodos: setembro-outubro de 2001 (estiagem) e fevereiro-março de 2002 (chuvoso), totalizando 20 amostras. As amostras foram preservadas em formol a 4-5% e estudadas ao microscópio fotônico. Foram identificados 26 táxons de Scenedesmaceae, distribuídos em 10 gêneros, 23 espécies, duas variedades e uma forma taxonômica. Desmodesmus lefevrei (Deﬂandre) An, Friedl & Hegewald, Dicloster acuatus Jao, Wei& Hu e Scenedesmus baculiformis Chodat são citadas pela primeira vez para o Estado de São Paulo. Scenedesmus e Desmodesmus foram os gêneros mais bem representados, com nove e oito espécies, respectivamente.

A survey on the Scenedesmaceae from 10 fishing ponds in São Paulo Metropolitan Region (RMSP) was performed. The samples were collected from the sub-surface, horizontally towed with a plankton net (20 µm mesh), in two periods: September-October 2001 (dry season) and February-March 2002 (rainy season), with a total of 20 samples. The samples were preserved in 4-5% formaldehyde solution, and studied under a photonic microscope. Twenty-six taxa of Scenedesmaceae were identified, distributed in 10 genera, 23 species, two varieties and one taxonomic form. Desmodesmus lefevrei (Deﬂandre) An, Friedl & Hegewald, Dicloster acuatus Jao, Wei & Hu and Scenedesmus baculiformis Chodat are cited for the first time for the State of São Paulo. Scenedesmus and Desmodesmus are the best represented genera, with nine and eight species, respectively.

As cianobactérias estão amplamente distribuídas em ambientes eutrofizados, onde comumente podem formar florações tóxicas, como em pesqueiros. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a biodiversidade de cianobactérias em dez pesqueiros da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP). As amostras foram coletadas na subsuperfície, através de arrasto horizontal com rede de plâncton, em dois períodos: setembro/outubro de 2001 e fevereiro/março de 2002, totalizando 20 amostras. As amostras foram preservadas em formol a 4-5% e estudadas ao microscópio fotônico. Foram identificadas 23 espécies de cianobactérias pertencentes a cinco ordens, sete famílias e 15 gêneros. Synechococcales foi a ordem com maior riqueza de espécies (8), seguida por Chroococcales (6), Pseudanabaenales (5), Oscillatoriales (2) e Nostocales (2). Aphanocapsa Nägeli e Microcystis Kützing ex Lemmermann foram os gêneros mais representativos, com cinco e quatro táxons respectivamente. Dos 23 táxons identificados, 22% foram considerados frequentes, 35% pouco frequentes e 43% raros. Aphanocapsa annulata G.B. McGregor, Aphanocapsa delicatissima W. West & G.S. West, Aphanocapsa incerta (Lemmermann) Cronberg & Komarek, Aphanocapsa holsatica (Lemmermann) Cronberg & Komarek e Microcystis aeruginosa (Kützing) Kützing estiveram presentes em sete pesqueiros Esta é a primeira citação de Aphanocapsa annulata para o estado de São Paulo.

Cyanobacteria are widely distributed in eutrophic environments, such as fishing ponds, where they can generally form toxic blooms. The objective of this study was to assess the biodiversity of the Cyanobacteria in ten fishing ponds in São Paulo Metropolitan Region (RMSP). The samples were collected from the sub-surface, horizontally towed with a plankton net, in two periods: September/October 2001 and February/March 2002. The samples were preserved in formaline:seawater at 4-5%, and studied under a photonic microscope. Twenty-three species of cyanobacteria belonging to five orders, seven families and 15 genera, were identified. The richest order was Synechococcales (8 species), followed by Chroococcales (6 species), Pseudanabaenales (5 species), Oscillatoriales (2 species) and Nostocales (2 species). Aphanocapsa Nägeli and Microcystis Kützing ex Lemmermann were the most representative genera, with five and four taxa respectively. 22% of the total were considered frequent species, 35% infrequent species, and 43% rare species. Aphanocapsa annulata G.B. McGregor, Aphanocapsa delicatissima W. West & G.S. West, Aphanocapsa incerta (Lemmermann) Cronberg & Komarek, Aphanocapsa holsatica (Lemmermann) Cronberg & Komarek and Microcystis aeruginosa (Kützing) Kützing occurred in seven fishing ponds. This is the first citation of Aphanocapsa annulata for the state of São Paulo.

Estudos em pesqueiros ressaltam, principalmente, questões econômicas e de impactos ambientais, enquanto que, estudos sobre a flora de microalgas raramente são realizados. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi realizar o levantamento das Chlorococcales em dez pesqueiros da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo. Foram identificados 38 táxons, distribuídos em oito famílias, 19 gêneros e quatro variedades que não as típicas das espécies. Com exceção de Scenedesmaceae, Chlorellaceae e Coelastraceae apresentaram maior riqueza, 10 e oito espécies respectivamente, enquanto que, Micractiniaceae, Radiococcaceae e Treubariaceae apresentaram as menores riquezas e as menores frequências de ocorrência. Dictyosphaerium pulchellum foi a única espécie com 90% de frequência de ocorrência. Dos 38 táxons identificados, 19 apresentaram frequência de ocorrência entre 30-55%, indicando melhor distribuição dessas espécies entre os pesqueiros estudados, corroborando com as informações da literatura, que discutem que várias espécies de Chlorococcales, Chlorophyceae são bem distribuídas entre os diferentes sistemas aquáticos brasileiros. A família Scenedesmaceae, pela elevada riqueza de táxons, será abordada separadamente.

Studies in fishing ponds have mainly focused on economic issues and environmental impacts, while studies on the flora of micro algae are rarely performed. Therefore, the objective of this study was to perform a survey of the Chlorococcales from ten fishing ponds located in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. We identified 38 taxa, distributed in eight families, 19 genera and four varieties that are not typical of the species. With the exception of Scenedesmaceae, Chlorellaceae and Coelastraceae had the greatest number of taxa, 10 and eight species respectively, while Micractiniaceae, Radiococcaceae and Treubariaceae had the lowest numbers of taxa and frequencies of occurrence. Dictyosphaerium pulchellum was the only species with 90% frequency of occurrence. Out of the 38 taxa identified, 19 had a frequency of occurrence between 30-55%, indicating a greater distribution of these species among the studied fishing ponds, corroborating the information in the literature, which argue that the Chlorococcales, Chlorophyceae species are well distributed in different Brazilians aquatic systems. The Scenedesmaceae family will be addressed separately due to its high wealth of taxa.

Usando como base de informações a monografia sobre o grupo publicada pelo projeto Flora Ficológica do Estado de São Paulo (Programa BIOTA), o acervo depositado no Herbário Científico do Estado de São Paulo "Maria Eneyda P. Kauffmann Fidalgo" (SP), a Lista de Espécies da Flora do Brasil e artigos científicos, dissertações e teses (com descrições e ilustrações) temos: nove gêneros e 39 espécies de criptoficeas, sendo 16 espécies exclusivas para o Estado de São Paulo, todas registradas em ambientes de água doce. A carência de especialistas no Estado de São Paulo e no Brasil, além de problemas de estratégia amostral, necessidade de uso da microscopia eletrônica e ausência de estudos de biologia molecular, são fatores que devem ter subestimado o conhecimento taxonômico de Cryptophyceae no Estado.

Based on the information provided by the monograph on the group published by the project Phycology Flora of São Paulo (BIOTA), the collection deposited in the Scientific Herbarium "Mary P. Eneyda Kauffmann Fidalgo " of the State of São Paulo, the List of Endangered Species of the Flora of Brazil and scientific papers, dissertations and theses (with descriptions and illustrations), there are nine genera and 39 species of cryptophytes, 16 of which are unique species to the State of São Paulo, all recorded in freshwater environments. The lack of specialists in the State of São Paulo and Brazil as well as problems in the sampling strategy, the necessary use of electronic microscopy and the absence of molecular biology studies are factors that must have underestimated the taxonomic knowledge of Cryptophyceae in the state.

As águas naturais podem se comportar como sumidouros ou emissores de dióxido de carbono (CO2), dependendo das características físico-químicas do sistema (difusão e reações desse gás na água), como também do pH, e da produção primária dos microorganismos através do consumo desse compostos. Evidências apontam que as concentrações de CO2 nos lagos são principalmente reguladas pelo metabolismo aquático, ou seja, pelo balanço entre a respiração e a fotossíntese; OBJETIVO: O presente estudo teve por objetivo descrever aspectos do metabolismo do cultivo de tilápias do Nilo, a partir da dinâmica e do equilíbrio das concentrações de oxigênio (OD) e das formas de carbono inorgânico dissolvido (CID): dióxido de carbono (CO2) e bicarbonato (HCO3-). As demais variáveis analisadas foram: fósforo total, transparência da água, alcalinidade total, temperatura da água, pH, radiação subaquática e análise quantitativa da comunidade fitoplanctônica; MÉTODOS: As amostragens ocorreram durante 5 dias consecutivos das 6:00 às 20:00 h (dezembro/2006) em intervalos de 2 h; RESULTADOS: Durante o ensaio foi observada periodicidade nas flutuações das concentrações de CID, sendo CO2 e HCO3-, as frações predominantes. Os valores de CID foram fortemente influenciados pela fração CO2 e no período da tarde ocorreu predominância da fração HCO3-. As concentrações de CO2 variaram de 0.48 µM a 138.94 µM, com concentração média diária de 18,04 µM. Os fluxos de CO2 na interface água atmosfera mostraram variações ao longo do dia. No período da tarde (12:00 h às 18:00 h) ocorreram no sentido atmosfera/viveiro, entretanto, o balanço foi de 576.7 µmol.m-2.h-1 no sentido viveiro/atmosfera; CONCLUSÕES: A dinâmica observada indicou que nas condições deste estudo, o metabolismo dos organismos aquáticos foi a principal função de força desse sistema, fato corroborado pelo intenso processo de eutrofização do viveiro.

Natural waters may play the role of sinks or carbon dioxide (CO2) emitters, depending on the physicochemical characteristics of the system (diffusion and reaction of this gas into water) as well as on the pH, and the primary production of micro-organisms as a result of the consumption of such compounds. Evidence suggests that the CO2 concentrations in ponds are mainly governed by the aquatic metabolism, i.e. by the balance between respiration and photosynthesis; AIM: The purpose of this study was to describe aspects of the metabolism of tilapia cultivation based on the dynamic and balance of the oxygen concentrations (DO) and forms of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC): carbon dioxide (CO2) and bicarbonate (HCO3-). Other variables analyzed are: total phosphorus, water transparency, total alkalinity, water temperature, pH, underwater radiation and quantitative analysis of phytoplankton community; METHODS: Sampling was collected infor 5 consecutive days from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM (December/2006) every 2 hours; RESULTS: During the test it was observed periodicity in the fluctuations of the DIC concentrations, being CO2 and HCO3- the predominant fractions. The values of DIC were strongly influenced by the fraction of CO2 and it was observed a predominance of the fraction HCO3- in the afternoon. CO2 concentrations ranged from 0.48 µM through 138.94 µM, reaching a daily average of 18.04 µM. The flow of CO2 in the interface atmosphere/water showed variations during the day. In the afternoon (from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM) the variation pointed to the flow atmosphere/fish pond; however, the balance was 577 µmol.m-2.h-1 in the flow fish pond/atmosphere; CONCLUSIONS: The observed dynamics indicated that under the conditions of this study, the metabolism of aquatic organisms was the main driving force of this system, a fact corroborated by the intense process of euthrophication in the pond.

A biodiversidade de Chlorophyceae foi estudada em duas das maiores represas da Região Metropolitana da cidade de São Paulo, Billings e Guarapiranga, que fornecem água para o abastecimento de milhões de pessoas. As coletas bimensais foram realizadas durante o período de janeiro a dezembro de 2004, em uma estação localizada próximas à captação de água da Sabesp, em cada represa. As amostras foram filtradas com rede de plâncton de 20 µm de abertura de malha, preservadas em formol. Foram identificados, descritos e ilustrados 36 táxons de Chlorophyceae, distribuídos em duas ordens, dez famílias e 24 gêneros. O gênero Desmodesmus apresentou maior riqueza de espécies (quatro), seguido de Ankistrodesmus e Scenedesmus (três espécies cada). Dez táxons constituíram primeiras citações para as represas estudadas. Oito táxons ocorreram exclusivamente na represa Guarapiranga e três foram registrados exclusivamente na represa Billings, sendo que 70% das espécies foi comum aos dois reservatórios. A elevada riqueza de espécies de clorofíceas confirma o predomínio florístico desta classe em corpos de água tropicais e, geralmente, eutrofizados.

Biodiversity of Chlorophyceae in two of the greatest reservoirs from the metropolitan region of São Paulo municipality, Billings and Guarapiranga, which supply water for millions of people, was studied. The samples were collected every two months, in specific sites in both reservoirs, from January to December 2004. The samples were filtered using a plankton net (20 µm) and preserved with formaldehyde. Thirty six taxa belonging to two orders, ten families and 24 genera, were identified, described and illustrated. The genus Desmodesmus presented the highest species richness (four), followed by Ankistrodesmus e Scenedesmus (three species each). Ten taxa are firstly reported to the studied reservoirs. Eight taxa were found exclusively in Guarapiranga reservoir and three only in Billings reservoir, whereas 70% of the identified taxa were common to both reservoirs. The high species richness of Chlorophyceae confirms the floristic dominance of this class in tropical and commonly eutrophyzed water bodies.
