RESUMO O estudo da interação entre estruturas hidráulicas em sistemas fluviais de leito móvel é complexo pois envolve transporte de sedimentos e mudanças dinâmicas nas condições de contorno, sendo necessário o uso de modelos físicos. Este artigo apresenta o procedimento para o desenho e construção de um modelo físico do reservatório e da barragem da Pequena Central Hidroelétrica (PCH) de Salto Paraopeba. Na fase de desenho, foi utilizada a modelagem computacional de transporte de sedimentos para a reconstituição da geometria primitiva do rio, também foram realizadas simulações do regime do escoamento e da capacidade de transporte ao longo do curso do rio; ambos os resultados permitiram delimitar a extensão do modelo. Considerando a escolha da escala e os critérios de semelhança entre o modelo e o protótipo, foi proposto o uso de um novo material alternativo, composto por partículas de borracha de pneu trituradas, de massa específica menor e diâmetro maior do que o sedimento do protótipo. ABSTRACT The study of the interaction between hydraulic structures in mobile bed river systems is complex because it involves sediment transport and dynamic changes in the boundary conditions, requiring the use of physical models. This article presents the procedure for the design and construction of a physical model of the reservoir and dam of the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant (SHPP) of Salto Paraopeba. In the design phase, computational modelling of sediment transport was used to reconstitute the primitive geometry of the river, and simulations of the flow regime and the transport capacity along the course of the river were also carried out; both results allowed to delimit the model extension. Considering the choice of scale and the similarity criteria between the model and the prototype, the use of a new alternative material was proposed, composed of crushed tire rubber particles, with a lower specific mass and a larger diameter than the prototype's sediment. Abstract The installation of solar parks requires extensive areas and results in soil erosion in many cases. One suitable solution is applying lime to improve soil characteristics, such as mechanical strength, stability, workability, durability, and internal and surface erosion resistance. This soil treatment is of particular importance when dealing with hydraulic structures conceived in the solar park drainage systems. The erodibility tests were performed in a solar complex soil in an EFA apparatus constructed to measure the erosion rate of cohesive and non-cohesive soils in different flow rates. The tests were performed with or without 3% lime addition and two compaction conditions. The experiments indicated that the erodibility of lime-treated soils represents between 26% and 12% of the values obtained from untreated soils and under reduced compaction. The values ranged from 16% to 7% for controlled compaction. The results represent a significant reduction in the soil erodibility treated with lime even with reduced compaction, performing an efficient, economical, and sustainable solution for erosion control.

RESUMO Apesar da frequência com que ressaltos hidráulicos afogados ocorrem nas estruturas de extravasamento de barragens, são poucos os estudos que abrangem este tipo de fenômeno. Sendo o ressalto hidráulico acompanhado de impactos violentos e variações bruscas de velocidade e pressão, é importante que se conheça a região em que o fenômeno incidirá, a fim possibilitar um dimensionamento seguro e econômico. Neste trabalho, é proposta uma metodologia para a determinação da posição inicial do ressalto afogado ao longo da calha de um vertedouro do tipo Creager. Verificou-se que esta posição é função do número de Froude incidente e do grau de submergência imposto.

ABSTRACT Although sloping hydraulic jumps are frequent in energy dissipators, there are few studies regarding this type of phenomenon. Since the jump is accompanied by violent impacts and sudden variations of velocity and pressure, it is important to know the region where the phenomenon will occur, in order to make a safe and economic design possible. In this paper, a methodology for the determination of the start position of the sloping jump along a Creager spillway is introduced. It was verified that this position is a function of both the incident Froude number and the submergence factor.

ABSTRACT Reservoirs built in watercourses are subject to some degree of silting. Therefore, it is important to estimate the volume of sediment accumulated, since this deposit may interfere with the functions of the reservoir. One way to do this is by using physical models. However, from the existing literature in the area it is not possible to answer some methodological questions that arise in a physical simulation of the silting, such as: which flow and solid discharge to use? Simulate a hydrogram or constant flow? Thus, this work had as objective to propose a simulation methodology of the silting in physical models, so that when using this methodology the observed siltation in the reduced model could represent the one of the prototype. From numerical and experimental simulations, it was chosen to simulate in the physical model the average flows of the waves that comprised the maximum flows. The flow time of each flow was 30 minutes and the total solid discharges used were those referring to the annual average flow rates. Using this methodology, simulation of sedimentation in the reduced model was promoted for the period between 2013 and 2017, and the result obtained was close to that of the prototype, which indicates that the proposed methodology allowed to represent in the reduced model the phenomenon of sedimentation occurred in the actual reservoir.

RESUMO Reservatórios construídos em cursos d’água estão sujeitos a algum grau de assoreamento. Por isso, é importante a estimativa do volume de sedimentos acumulados, visto que esse depósito pode interferir nas funções do reservatório. Uma forma de se fazer isso é utilizando modelos físicos. Entretanto, a partir da literatura existente na área não é possível responder a algumas questões metodológicas que surgem em uma simulação física do assoreamento, como: qual vazão e descarga sólida utilizar? Simular um hidrograma ou uma vazão constante? Assim, esse trabalho teve como objetivo propor uma metodologia de simulação do assoreamento em modelos físicos, de forma que ao se utilizar essa metodologia o assoreamento observado no modelo reduzido pudesse representar o do protótipo. A partir de simulações numéricas e experimentais, optou-se por simular no modelo físico as vazões médias das ondas que compreendiam as vazões máximas. O tempo de escoamento de cada vazão foi de 30 minutos e as descargas sólidas totais utilizadas foram às referentes às vazões médias anuais. Utilizando-se essa metodologia, promoveu-se a simulação do assoreamento no modelo reduzido para o período entre 2013 e 2017, sendo que o resultado obtido foi próximo ao do protótipo, o que indica que a metodologia proposta permitiu representar no modelo reduzido o fenômeno do assoreamento ocorrido no reservatório real.

RESUMO As consequências ambientais, econômicas e sociais das rupturas de barragens são catastróficas e demandam seu conhecimento prévio para minimização dos riscos. Essas consequências estão diretamente relacionadas às brechas de ruptura, cujos parâmetros de tempo de formação e geométricos – largura, altura e declividades dos taludes laterais – devem ser adequadamente representativos de uma ruptura real, para que se possa obter um hidrograma de ruptura representativo (evolução temporal, volume e vazão de pico). Esta representação se torna mais fidedigna quanto mais próxima das consequências reais de uma ruptura, criando condições para respostas à emergência mais adequadas. Assim, esta pesquisa determina os parâmetros de formação de brecha para ruptura hipotética, especificamente para o caso de reservatórios em cascata (em série ou em cadeia). Para que possam ser determinados estes parâmetros, a metodologia utiliza modelos físicos reduzidos e modelagem numérica procurando representar duas barragens justapostas em cascata, baseadas em um caso de referência, determinando os parâmetros resultantes em cada barramento após os eventos de ruptura simulados.

ABSTRACT The environmental, economic, and social consequences of dam breaks are catastrophic and require their prior knowledge to minimize risks. These consequences are directly related to rupture breach parameters, such as formation time and breach geometry (width, height, and lateral slopes). These parameters must be adequately representative of a real rupture to obtain a rupture hydrograph also representative (temporal evolution, volume, and peak flow). This representation becomes more reliable as the closer to the actual consequences of a rupture it is, thus creating conditions for an adequate emergency action plan. This research evaluates the parameters of breach formation for a possible rupture, specifically for the case of reservoirs in a sequence, also called cascade reservoirs. The adopted methodology uses physical reduced models and numerical modeling to define these parameters, trying to represent two cascade dams, based on a reference case, determining their values in each dam after the simulated rupture events.

RESUMO O coeficiente de rugosidade Manning é utilizado em várias modelagens hidráulicas. Entretanto, a decisão sobre qual valor será adotado é uma tarefa complexa, principalmente se tratando de cursos d’água naturais, devido aos vários fatores que afetam esse coeficiente. Por isso, na maioria dos estudos realizados sobre o tema se adota uma abordagem local, como a proposta para o Rio Doce. Devido à importância regional deste rio no Brasil, o objetivo deste artigo foi estimar a rugosidade de Manning ao longo do Rio Doce, de forma a auxiliar em simulações hidráulicas, e também discutir as incertezas e as variações associadas a esse valor. Para isso, foram levantadas informações de vazões e profundidades da água em estações fluviométricas ao longo do rio. De posse dessas informações, calcularam-se os referidos coeficientes utilizando-se a equação de Manning, sendo que para isso utilizou-se o software Canal, e foram observadas suas variações espaço-temporal. Além disso, foi observado como as incertezas nas medições de vazões e de profundidades afetam o valor do coeficiente de Manning no caso estudado.

ABSTRACT The Manning’s roughness coefficient is used for various hydraulic modeling. However, the decision on what value to adopt is a complex task, especially when dealing with natural water courses due to the various factors that affect this coefficient. For this reason, most of the studies carried out on the subject adopt a local approach, such as this proposal for the Doce River. Due to the regional importance of this river in Brazil, the objective of this article was to estimate the roughness coefficient of Manning along the river, in order to aid in hydraulic simulations, as well as to discuss the uncertainties and variations associated with this value. For this purpose, information on flow rates and water depths were collected at river flow stations along the river. With this information, the coefficients were calculated using the Manning equation, using the software Canal, and their space-time variations were observed. In addition, it was observed that the uncertainties in flow and depth measurements affect the value of the Manning coefficient in the case studied.

RESUMO Diferentes sistemas hidráulicos instalados em barramentos têm sido utilizados como Mecanismos de Transposição de Peixes (MTP’s) e se constituem em uma alternativa para o movimento migratório de peixes para reprodução (“piracema”). A variação da declividade do MTP influencia a extensão do mesmo e consequentemente o custo final do mecanismo. Para determinar a melhor declividade do sistema, é necessário verificar parâmetros que influenciam a migração dos peixes, como campos de velocidades, níveis de dissipação de energia e tensão cisalhante de Reynolds nos tanques além do conhecimento de variáveis biológicas das espécies aquáticas a serem transpostas. No entanto, esses parâmetros não são avaliados conjuntamente, e alguns deles são avaliados pela média do escoamento em todo o tanque. Este trabalho apresenta uma análise dos principais parâmetros hidráulicos em tanque um tanque de um mecanismo do tipo escada com ranhura vertical em duas declividades, 6% e 12%, que se encontram próximo aos limites adotados nesse tipo de projeto. Os mapas dos parâmetros hidráulicos mostram que a declividade de 6% é a mais indicada para o projeto desse tipo de MTP, pois os seus níveis de velocidades, dissipação de energia e de tensão cisalhante de Reynolds são mais compatíveis com as condições ideais para a passagem de peixes. Para a declividade de 12% ocorre limitação de área possível de passagem do peixe devido a dissipação de energia e tensão cisalhante de Reynolds locais.

ABSTRACT Several fish transposition systems (MTP´s) have been employed to allow the fish upstream migration through river dams for spawning. The design of MTP´s of the type of vertical slot fishways requires not only the analysis of the pool hydraulic behavior to evaluate the velocity fields, the energy dissipation levels, and the Reynolds shear stress distributions, but also the study of biological characteristics of aquatic species impacted by the river dams. However, these parameters are not evaluated together, and some of them are valued at the average of the tank. This work deals with an analysis of the main hydraulic characteristics of a slot vertical fishway at two channel slopes, 6% and 12%. The hydraulic characteristic graphs obtained in this work show that a slope of 6% is preferable for the design of this kind of fishway, since the associated velocity magnitudes fits better to the ideal conditions for the safe fish passage. The slope of 12% creates restrictions in terms of the available area for fish passage due to power dissipation and shear stresses conditions.

Abstract This study aims to present a methodology for the design of a surface drainage system for dry docks in shipyards, taking into account the rainfall intensity at the site, the damping capacity of the hydraulic structures (drainage channels) and the pumping capacity of the pumping system. A case study of a dry dock owned by Estaleiro Rio Grande, located at the state of Rio Grande do Sul, is presented. The results obtained indicate alternatives for channel and submersible pump sizing. These pumps would be used to control the dry dock flooding after an intense rainfall event.

Esse trabalho apresenta o desenvolvimento de um modelo hidráulico reduzido (MHR) do sistema extravasor operacional da barragem de rejeitos Forquilha IV (escala 1:10), de propriedade da Vale S.A. Os estudos foram conduzidos pelo Centro de Pesquisas Hidráulicas e Recursos Hídricos (CPH) da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) e pela empresa Vogbr Recursos Hídricos & Geotecnia Ltda. É apresentada, nesse trabalho, uma breve descrição da construção do modelo, bem como a bateria de ensaios prevista para análise hidráulica da estrutura. O MHR representa a galeria de encosta, a caixa de dissipação e a saída para o túnel de restituição. O projeto do MHR representa uma etapa vital na análise preliminar do comportamento hidráulico do protótipo frente à passagem da cheia de projeto (vazão decamilenar), assim como a análise de seu funcionamento para vazões mais frequentes.

This paper presents the development of a reduced hydraulic model (RHM) for the outflow operating system at the Forquilha IV (scale 1:10) tailings dam, owned by Vale S.A. The studies were performed by Centro de Pesquisas Hidráulicas e Recursos Hídricos (CPH) of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the company Vogbr Recursos Hídricos & Geotecnia Ltda. We present here a brief description of the model construction and the test battery set for the structure’s hydraulic analysis. RHM involves the hillside culvert, the dissipation box and the exit to the restitution tunnel. The RHM project represents an essential step in the first analysis of the hydraulic behavior of the prototype, considering the designed flood station (ten thousand-year flood flow), as well as the analysis of its operation with more frequent flows.
