O presente estudo foi realizado no Parque Ecológico Municipal José Milanese (PEMJM), localizado no Bairro Mina União, no Município de Criciúma, Santa Catarina - Brasil, tendo como objetivo realizar levantamento etnobotânico no PEMJM sobre as 31 árvores medicinais descritas por Figueiró-Leandro & Citadini-Zanette (2008), junto aos moradores do entorno do referido parque, detentores do conhecimento com plantas medicinais. Os dados foram coletados no período de fevereiro a abril de 2008 por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas nas residências dos informantes. Das 31 árvores medicinais presentes no PEMJM, 14 foram citadas pelos entrevistados, atribuindo a elas, 42 indicações terapêuticas. Os farmacógenos mais utilizados foram: folhas (76,25%) e cascas (12,5%). As formas mais expressivas de preparo foram: o decocto (36,25%), e o infuso (28,75%). Em relação às indicações terapêuticas destacaram-se três espécies: Casearia sylvestris Sw. (guaçatonga) e Jacaranda puberula Cham. (carobinha), com nove indicações cada uma, e Zollernia ilicifolia (Brongn.) Vogel (carapicica-de-folha-lisa), com oito indicações. Muitas das indicações terapêuticas relatadas neste estudo não constam na literatura consultada por Figueiró-Leandro & Citadini-Zanette (2008) evidenciando a necessidade de mais pesquisas sobre essas plantas e a importância do registro das informações populares.

This study was carried out at the José Milanese Municipal Ecological Park (PEMJM), located in Mina União, municipality of Criciúma, state of Santa Catarina - Brazil, aiming to do an ethnobotanical survey of the 31 medicinal trees described by Figueiró-Leandro & Citadini-Zanette (2008) in the PEMJM together with the surrounding residents of that park, who possess knowledge of medicinal plants. The data were collected from February to April 2008 through semi-structured interviews, which were held in the houses of the respondents. From 31 medicinal trees present in the Park, 14 were mentioned by the respondents, giving to such trees 42 therapeutic indications. The most used pharmacogens were the leaves (76.25%) and barks (12.5%), and among the ways of preparation the most revealing ones were in the form of decoction (36.25%) and infusion (28.75%). In relation to therapeutic indications, three tree species were mentioned: Casearia sylvestris Sw. and Jacaranda puberula Cham. with nine indications, and Zollernia ilicifolia (Brongn.) Vogel with eight indications. Many of the therapeutic indications reported in this study are not in the literature verified by Figueiró-Leandro & Citadini-Zanette (2008), which shows the necessity of carrying out more research studies on such plants and the importance of registering popular information.

Avaliou-se o efeito da suplementação com geleia real sobre a morfometria do aparelho genital, resposta superovulatória e qualidade embrionária de coelhas. Trinta e seis fêmeas foram distribuídas em quatro grupos (G), sendo: G1 (n=9) formado por animais não suplementados com geleia real, e G2, G3 e G4 (n=9 em cada grupo) por animais suplementados com 10, 20 e 40mg/dia de geleia real. A superovulação consistiu na aplicação de 40UI de gonadotrofina coriônica equina, seguida por 40UI de gonadotrofina coriônica humana, via intramuscular, 48 horas após, e submetidas à cobrição natural. Os animais foram sacrificados, e os embriões coletados 72 horas após a cópula. Não houve diferença estatística entre tratamentos para as variáveis analisadas. O peso médio do aparelho genital foi de 10,88±0,38g; dos ovários - direito e esquerdo -, 0,28±0,02g; e o índice gonadossomático, 0,02±0,0g. O número médio de estruturas totais recuperadas foi de 9,2±1,4; de embriões viáveis, 8,7±1,4; e de degenerados, 0,5±0,2. Dos embriões viáveis, 5,6±0,8 foram classificados como grau I; 2,3±0,5, como grau II; e 0,8±0,2, como grau III. A suplementação com geleia real na dose de até 40mg/dia não apresentou efeito estimulador sobre o aparelho genital e a qualidade embrionária de coelhas.

The purpose of this paper was to assess the effect of supplementation of royal jelly on the morphometry of the genital tract, superovulatory response and embryonic quality in adult rabbits. 36 rabbits were distributed in four groups (G), as follows: G1 (n=9): no supplementation with royal jelly, G2, 3 and 4 (n=9): supplementation with 10, 20 and 40mg/day of royal jelly. The superovulatory protocol consisted in the application of a dose of 40UI of Equine Chorionic Gonadotrophin, followed by a dose of UI of Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin, intramuscularly, 48 hours later, and submitted to natural cover. The animals were euthanasiated and the embryos collected 72 hours after copulation. There was no statistical difference for the analyzed variables (P>0.05). The average weight for the female genital tract was 10.89±0.38g; the average weight of right and left ovaries was 0.28±0.02g and the average gonadosomatic index rate was 0.02±0.0g. The number of total recovered structures was 9.2±1.4. The average number of viable embryos was 8.7±1.4 and of degenerated embryos was 0.5±0.2. Viable embryos were morphologically classified as degree I: 5.6±0.8; degree II: 2.3±0.5; degree III: 0.8±0.2. Royal jelly did not present stimulatory effect on organs related to the reproduction of rabbits, nor was it effective to improve their embryonic quality at dosages of up to 40mg of in natura royal jelly.

The ion exchange of Na for Cr/K, Cr/Mg and Cr/Ca in Y and X zeolites was studied using breakthrough curves. It was observed that Cr3+ ions were able to remove some competitive ions that had already been exchanged at the zeolitic sites, producing a sequential ion exchange. Some mass transfer parameters such as length of unused bed, overall mass transfer coefficient, operational ratio and dimensionless variance were studied. Chromium uptake was influenced much more by the competing ion in the NaX zeolite columns. The dimensionless variance indicated that Cr/K solution produced a greater axial dispersion than the Cr/Mg and Cr/Ca systems, probably due to some interaction between Cr3+ and K+ ions. The order of dynamic selectivity, provided by the cation uptake, was Cr3+ > Ca2+, Cr3+ > Mg2+ and Cr3+ > K+ for NaY zeolite and Ca2+ ~Cr3+, Mg2+ > Cr3+ and Cr3+ > K+ for NaX zeolite. Due to the more favorable mass transfer parameters and higher affinity for Cr3+, it was concluded that NaY zeolite was more efficient at chromium uptake in competitive systems.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o pó de forno elétrico (PFE), resíduo da indústria siderúrgica, como fonte de micronutrientes e contaminantes para o milho, em condições de casa-de-vegetação. Utilizou-se como substrato um Cambissolo álico, onde foram aplicados três níveis de calcário (0, 2 e 4 t ha-1) e cinco tratamentos: sem fornecimento de micronutrientes (testemunha), com fornecimento de micronutrientes via fontes de reagentes p.a., e com 250, 500 e 1.000 kg ha-1 do pó de forno elétrico. A produção de matéria seca só variou significativamente na presença de calagem. Os tratamentos com PFE proporcionaram aumentos na produção de biomassa em relação à testemunha, porém apresentaram resultados inferiores aos proporcionados pela aplicação de micronutrientes via fontes p.a. Não ocorreram diferenças entre os tratamentos na produção de matéria seca do milho com a adição de doses crescentes de PFE. O PFE atuou como fonte de micronutrientes, principalmente de Zn e de Fe. A solubilidade do PFE é sensivelmente maior em condições de maior acidez do solo. A presença de Cd e Pb foi detectada na matéria seca da parte aérea. O risco de contaminação do solo e dos alimentos por metais pesados presentes no PFE pode limitar seu uso agrícola como fonte de micronutrientes.

The residue of siderurgic furnace was tested as a source of micronutrients and contaminants to corn plants at greenhouse condition, in Lavras, MG, Brazil. Soil material of an Inceptsol (allic Cambisol) was used as substrate, which received 0, 2 and 4 ton ha-1 of liming material and the following treatments: blank, micronutrient as p.a. reagent, and 250, 500, and 1,000 kg ha-1 of the furnace residue. Liming dose was the main factor accounting for the differences in dry matter production. The residue increased biomass production in relation to check, but facing to p.a. reagents results were lower; there were no significant differences due to doses of this product. Also the residue supplied mainly Zn and Fe to corn plants. Solubility of this by product is higher as soil acidity increases. It was detected the presence of Cd and Pb in the shoot dry mass of corn. The potential risk of soil and food contamination must be taken into account when using this furnace residue as source of micronutrient.
