ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze spatial distribution of preterm births and their association with maternal, social, and health services indicators in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Brazil, 2010-2019. Methods: Ecological study using data on preterm newborns from 39 municipalities in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Univariate global Moran’s index (Im) was used to evaluate spatial association of prematurity, and univariate local Moran’s index by using the cluster map (LISA) to identify spatial patterns and clusters. Bivariate global Moran’s index was also used to analyze spatial autocorrelation with maternal, social, and health services indicators. Results: A total of 3,103,898 live births were registered in period 2010-2019, of which 331,174 (10.7%) were preterm. The global Moran’s index showed spatial independence (Im=0.05; p-value=0.233) of the proportion of preterm births between municipalities. However, in the local spatial analysis it was possible to identify a statistically significant spatial cluster between the municipalities of Biritiba Mirim, Guararema and Salesópolis, with high proportions of preterm births. In the bivariate analysis, a significant positive spatial association was identified with proportions of mothers under 20 years old (Im=0.17; p-value=0.024) and mothers with low schooling (Im=0.17; p-value=0.020), and a significant negative spatial association with HDI (Im=-0.14; p-value=0.039). Conclusions: The local spatial approach identified a spatial cluster located in the far east of the metropolitan region of São Paulo, where actions by health managers are needed to minimize occurrence of preterm births.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a distribuição espacial dos nascimentos prematuros e sua associação com indicadores maternos, sociais e de serviços de saúde na região metropolitana de São Paulo, Brasil, 2010-2019. Métodos: Estudo ecológico utilizando dados sobre recém-nascidos pré-termo dos 39 municípios da região metropolitana de São Paulo. Utilizou-se o índice de Moran (Im) global univariado para avaliar a associação espacial da prematuridade, e o índice de Moran local univariado por meio do mapa de clusters (LISA) para a identificação de padrões e aglomerados espaciais. Também foi utilizado o índice de Moran global bivariado para analisar a autocorrelação espacial com os indicadores maternos, sociais e de serviços de saúde. Resultados: Foram registrados 3.103.898 nascidos vivos no período 2010-2019, dos quais 331.174 (10,7%) foram prematuros. O índice de Moran global mostrou independência espacial (Im=0,05; p-valor=0,233) da proporção dos nascimentos prematuros entre municípios. No entanto, na análise espacial local foi possível identificar aglomerado espacial estatisticamente significativo entre os municípios de Biritiba Mirim, Guararema e Salesópolis, com proporções altas de nascimentos pré-termo. Na análise bivariada, identificou-se associação espacial significativa positiva com proporções de mães menores de 20 anos (Im=0,17; p-valor=0,024) e mães com baixa escolaridade (Im=0,17; p-valor=0,020), e associação espacial significativa negativa com IDH (Im=-0,14; p-valor=0,039). Conclusão: A abordagem espacial local identificou agrupamento espacial situado no extremo leste da região metropolitana de São Paulo, onde ações dos gestores de saúde são necessárias para minimizar a ocorrência de partos prematuros.

Resumen Se evaluaron los síntomas psicológicos durante el periodo de confinamiento por COVID-19 y su relación con el impacto del evento percibido en Nuevo León, México. Fue un estudio transversal de tipo correlacional donde participaron 1872 personas (34.7 % hombres y 65.3 % mujeres). Se utilizó el Inventario de Síntomas Revisado para evaluar el grado de malestar emocional y la Escala de Impacto de Evento revisada para evaluar sintomatología del estrés postraumático. El 56.5 % de la muestra presentó estrés postraumático. Existe relación entre la severidad global del malestar emocional y las dimensiones de estrés, edad y grado en que se practica la religión. Además, se encontraron diferencias significativas por sexo en todas las sub dimensiones del malestar emocional, siendo mayor la diferencia en somatizaciones. Por grupos de edad, también existen diferencias significativas, destacando el malestar emocional y el estrés postraumático, siendo mayor en los menores a 35 años. Tener un diagnóstico positivo de COVID-19 generó mayores somatizaciones, mientras que contar con alguien cercano que haya fallecido por causas relacionadas al mismo incrementa toda la sintomatología psicológica y el estrés postraumático. El inicio del confinamiento impactó emocionalmente a la población, siendo más vulnerables los grupos de mujeres y los menores de 35 años.

Abstract Psychological symptoms during the COVID-19 confinement period and their relationship with the perceived impact of the event were evaluated in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The cross-sectional, correlational study was comprised of 1,872 participants (34.7 % men and 65.3 % women). The Symptom Checklist Revised was used to evaluate the degree of emotional distress and the Impact of Event Scale Revised to evaluate post-traumatic stress symptomatology. Post-traumatic stress was found in 56.5 % of the sample. There is a relationship between the global severity of emotional distress and the dimensions of stress, age, and degree of religious practice. In addition, significant sex differences were found in all the subdimensions of emotional distress, the difference being greater in somatization. There were also significant differences by age group, with emotional distress and post-traumatic stress being higher in those under 35. Having a positive COVID-19 diagnosis generated greater somatizations as well as having someone close to the patient who had died from COVID-19-related causes increased all psychological symptomatology and post-traumatic stress. The onset of confinement had an emotional impact on the population, with the most vulnerable groups being women and those under 35.

Resumen: Este artículo expone un análisis sobre la constitucionalidad de las normas fiscales con cantidades nominales monetarias. Primeramente, se referencia el principio constitucional de proporcionalidad tributaria y su relación con la capacidad económico-contributiva de los contribuyentes. Segundamente, aborda el asunto relativo a aquellas cargas tributarias previstas en normas con cantidades nominales monetarias. Terceramente, el texto refiere algunos ejemplos de actualización de cantidades nominales monetarias en ciertas leyes fiscales. Subsecuentemente, este artículo analiza la transgresión que la imposición tributaria desproporcional genera sobre los derechos humanos en materia tributaria, relacionados con la capacidad contributiva frente a aquellas cargas tributarias fijadas en cantidades nominales monetarias. Se sugiere al legislador reformas legales para uso de cantidades indexadas y al contribuyente la demanda de amparo indirecto.

Abstract: The article shows an analysis about the constitutionality of tax norms with monetary nominal amounts. Firstly, it refers to the constitutional principle of tax proportionality and its relation to the taxpayers’ taxable capacity. Secondly, it addresses the issue related to those tax burdens stipulated in norms with monetary nominal amounts. Thirdly, the text refers to some examples of the monetary nominal amounts update in certain tax laws. Subsequently, this article analyzes the transgression generated by the disproportionate tax imposition over human rights in tax matter, related to the taxable capacity before those tax burdens set in monetary nominal amounts. It is suggested to the legislator the amendments for the use indexed amounts and to the taxpayer the indirect amparo suit.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio experimental fue determinar el efecto de terapia de fotobiomodulación sobre la reparación ósea en un modelo de osteotomía de tibia de rata a los 15 y 30 días. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 36 ratas Holtzman macho que se aleatorizaron en 6 grupos iguales. Grupos A1 y A2: osteotomía + energía láser de 1 Joule. Grupos B1 y B2: osteotomía + energía láser 3 Joule. Grupos C1 y C2 (controles): solo osteotomía. La reparación ósea fue analizada por evaluación histológica de osteoblastos y osteocitos tanto a los 15 días (grupos A1, B1 y C1) como a los 30 días (grupos A2, B2 y C2). Como resultados se encontró que en todos los grupos hubo mayor número de osteoblastos a los 15 días vs. 30 días (p<0,05), y mayor número de osteocitos en B1 y C2 vs B2 y C1, respectivamente (p<0,05). Al evaluar a los animales a los 15 días, se observó mayor número de osteoblastos en A1 y C1 vs B1 (p<0.001); y mayor número de osteocitos en A1 y B1 vs C1 (p<0,001). Al evaluar a los ratones a los 30 días hubo mayor cantidad de osteoblastos en C2 vs A2 y B2 (p<0,05) y de osteocitos en C2 vs B2 (p<0,05). Se concluye que la terapia de fotobiomodulación con 1 Joule mejoró la reparación ósea a los 15 días; sin embargo, dicha mejora no se observó a los 30 días porque no hubo diferencias entre los grupos irradiados y el control.

Abstract The aim of this experimental study was to determine the effect of photobiomodulation therapy on bone repair in a rat tibia osteotomy model at 15 and 30 days. The sample consisted of 36 male Holtzman rats that were randomized into 6 equal groups. Groups A1 and A2: osteotomy + 1 J laser energy. Groups B1 and B2: osteotomy + 3 J laser energy. Groups C1 and C2 (controls): osteotomy only. The bone repair was analyzed by histological evaluation of osteoblasts and osteocytes both at 15 days (groups A1, B1, and C1) and at 30 days (groups A2, B2, and C2). Within the results, in all groups a greater number of osteoblasts was found at 15 days vs 30 days (p<0.05), and a greater number of osteocytes in B1 and C2 vs B2 and C1, respectively (p<0.05). When evaluating the 3 groups worked up to 15 days, more osteoblasts were found in A1 and C1 vs B1 (p<0.001); and osteocytes predominated in A1 and B1 vs C1 (p<0.001). At 30 days there was a greater quantity of osteoblasts in C2 vs A2 and B2 (p<0.05) and of osteocytes in C2 vs B2 (p<0.05). It is concluded that 1 J photobiomodulation therapy improved bone repair at 15 days; however, this improvement was not observed at 30 days because there were no differences between the irradiated groups and the control.

Abstract In the Bajío, bean halo blight [Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola (Psph)] causes severe damage to varieties of the Azufrado and Cacahuate Bola types. To identify resistant genotypes, various bean materials were inoculated with two isolates, races 2 and 6. Likewise, readings of the reaction to natural infection by Psph in the field were recorded in two sets of Azufrado-type lines evaluated under rainfed conditions in Celaya, Guanajuato, in 2018, one with 10 and another with 16 lines established in June and July, respectively. In the marker laboratory, primers B10, W13, and T8, associated with genes of resistance against the bacterium in various bean genotypes, were used to determine the association between the presence of the markers and resistance to Psph. The Azufrado-type genotypes established in June were severely damaged (reaction from 5 to 8 on a scale of 1 to 9) by Psph, while those of July were damaged to a lesser degree. In the first trial, environmental conditions favored the attack of the bacterium, conditions that did not occur in the second trial. Most of the genotypes inoculated with race 6 in the greenhouse were susceptible. Genotypes positive for the presence of the three markers used were susceptible to races 2 and 6; that is, the marked resistance factors do not provide resistance to those races. All evaluated genotypes of the Azufrado-type of Nueva Granada race were susceptible to Psph races 2 and 6. Among the inoculation-resistant genotypes are Flor de Mayo M38, San Rafael, Pinto Laguna 80, and Pinto Saltillo.

Resumen En el Bajío el tizón de halo del frijol [(Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola (Psph)] causa severo daño a variedades de los tipos Azufrado y Cacahuate Bola. Para identificar genotipos resistentes se inocularon diversos materiales de frijol con dos aislados, razas 2 y 6. Asimismo, se registraron lecturas de la reacción a la infección natural por Psph en campo en dos juegos de líneas de tipo Azufrado evaluadas bajo temporal en Celaya, Guanajuato en 2018, uno con 10 y otro con 16 líneas establecidas en junio y julio, respectivamente. En el laboratorio de marcadores se usaron los iniciadores B10, W13 y T8 asociados a genes de resistencia contra la bacteria en diversos genotipos de frijol para determinar la asociación entre la presencia de los marcadores y la resistencia a Psph. Los genotipos de tipo azufrado establecidos en junio fueron severamente dañados (reacción de 5 a 8 en escala de 1 a 9) por Psph, mientras que los de julio lo fueron en menor grado. En el primer ensayo las condiciones ambientales favorecieron el ataque de la bacteria, condiciones que no se registraron en el segundo ensayo. La mayoría de los genotipos inoculados con la raza 6 en invernadero, resultaron susceptibles. Genotipos positivos para la presencia de los tres marcadores utilizados fueron susceptibles a las razas 2 y 6; es decir, los factores de resistencia marcados no proporcionan resistencia a esas razas. Todos los genotipos evaluados del tipo azufrado de raza Nueva Granada, fueron susceptibles a Psph razas 2 y 6. Entre los genotipos resistentes a la inoculación se encuentran, Flor de Mayo M38, San Rafael, Pinto Laguna 80 y Pinto Saltillo.

Abstract: The article elaborates an exegetical study of the figure of “Hell” present in the work of the martinican psychiatrist Frantz Fanon. This trope is thought of as a core element of the narrative of Black Skin, White Masks that is linked to reflections on racist alienation, the epidermis, the gaze, and the zone of non-being. Exploring the different modulations of “Hell”, the article makes a displacement that seeks to argue how the infernal of Fanon’s story, more than a metaphor, accounts for the “real-lived” of the colonial world. Consequently, the racialized body and its lived experience offer a reading about “Hell” in an anaphoric and existential key that strains the modern-hegemonic grammars about the identities. From this starting point, the work discusses the problem of temporality linked to the critical tenor that at various moments in Black Skin... assumes the infernal architecture of colonialism narrated by Fanon.

Resumen: El artículo elabora un estudio exegético de la figura del “Infierno” presente en la obra del psiquiatra martiniqués Frantz Fanon. Dicho tropo se piensa como un elemento medular de la narrativa de Piel negra, máscaras blancas que guarda vínculo con las reflexiones acerca de la alienación racista, la epidermis, la mirada y la zona de no-ser. Explorando las distintas modulaciones del “Infierno”, el artículo realiza un desplazamiento que busca argumentar cómo lo infernal del relato de Fanon, más que metáfora, da cuenta de lo “real-vivido” del mundo colonial. En consecuencia, el cuerpo racializado y su experiencia vivida ofrecen una lectura acerca del “Infierno” en clave anafórica y existencial que tensa las gramáticas moderno-hegemónicas acerca de las identidades. Desde este punto de partida, el trabajo discute el problema de la temporalidad ligado con el tenor crítico que en diversos momentos de Piel negra… asume la arquitectura infernal del colonialismo narrada por Fanon.

Resumen: Objetivo: Caracterizar el comportamiento de COVID-19 en niños chilenos hospitalizados en unidades de paciente crítico pediátrico (UPCP) y evaluar factores de riesgo para COVID-19 severo. Pacientes y Método: Estudio multicéntrico cohorte prospectivo, pacientes 0-18 años con SARS-CoV-2 confirmado hospitalizados en UPCP. Se registraron variables clínicas, laboratorio, imagenológicas y terapéuticas. Se comparó “COVID-19 leve/moderado” versus “COVID-19 severo” utilizando mediana con rango intercuartil (RIC), test U Mann-Whitney, Test Fisher de dos colas y análisis multivariado binario forward para ajuste de variables para “COVID-19 severo”. Significativo p < 0,05. Resultados: 219 pacientes, 55,3% hombres, mediana edad 86 meses (RIC: 13,5-156). Comorbilidades principales: obesidad, enfermedades respiratorias. Mortalidad global: 3,6%. “COVID-19 severo” (26,5%) mostró más leucopenia, linfopenia, más inflamación y alteración de órganos (p < 0,05). También desarrolló más Sepsis/shock, SDRA y disfunción de órganos, requirió más terapia hemodinámica, antiinflamatoria, anticoagulación, antibioterapia, con mayor estadía en UPCP/hospitalaria (p < 0,05) y mortalidad de 13,8%. Factores de riesgo asociados a “COVID-19 severo”: shock al ingreso (aOR 28,44 [IC95%: 10,45-77,4]), obesidad (aOR 3,55 [IC95%: 1,3-9,6]), condensación (aOR 3,1 [IC95%: 1,1-8,7]), atelectasia (aOR: 8.7 [IC95%: 1,17-64,3]), corticoides dosis de estrés (aOR 7,7 [IC95%: 1,9-30,6]), antibioterapia precoz (aOR: 12,02 [IC95%: 1,11-130,02]), inmunodeficiencia adquirida/ congénita (aOR: 19,2 [IC95%: 1,19-321]) y patología oncológica (aOR: 10,7 [IC95%: 2,14-47,8]). Conclusión: En esta cohorte pediátrica chilena, el perfil de paciente que ingresó a UPCP fue de sexo masculino en edad escolar con comorbilidad asociada. Factores de riesgo asociados a COVID-19 severo fueron: presencia de comorbilidades (inmunodeficiencia adquirida/congénita, patología oncológica y obesidad), shock al ingreso y condensaciones en las imágenes radiológicas.

Abstract: Objectives: To characterize the COVID-19 disease profile in Chilean children hospitalized in pediatric intensive care units (PICU) and to evaluate risk factors associated with severe COVID-19. Patients and Method: A multicenter prospective cohort study with patients 0-18 years of age with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 hospitalized in PICU. Clinical, laboratory, imaging, and therapeutic variables were recorded. We compared ”mild/moderate COVID-19” with ’’severe COVID-19” using median with interquartile range (IQR), Mann-Whitney U test, two-tailed Fisher’s test, and forward binary multivariate analysis to adjust variables for “severe COVID-19”. A p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: From 16 PICUs, 219 patients were recruited, 55.3% were male, with a median age of 86 months (IQR: 13.5-156). The most frequent comorbidities were obesity and respiratory diseases. Overall mortality was 3.6%. “Severe COVID-19” (26.5%) showed more leukopenia, lymphopenia, increased inflammatory parameters, and altered organ function (p < 0.05). It also developed more sepsis/shock, ARDS, and organ dysfunction, requiring more hemodynamic, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulation, and antibiotic therapy, with a longer stay in the PICU/hospital (p < 0.05), and 13.8% of mortality. Risk factors associated with “severe COVID-19” were shock on admission to the PICU [aOR 28.44 (95%CI 10.45-77.4)], obesity [aOR 3.55 (95%CI 1.3-9.6)], consolidation [aOR 3.1 (95%CI 1.1 -8.7)], atelectasis [aOR: 8.7 (95%CI 1.17-64.3)], stress dose of corticosteroids [aOR 7.7 (95%CI 1.9-30.6)], early antibiotic therapy [aOR: 12.02 (95%CI 1.11-130.02)], acquired/congenital immunodeficiency [aOR: 19.2 (95%CI: 1.19-321)], and oncological pathology [aOR 10.7 (95%CI 2.14-47.8)]. Conclusion: In this Chilean pediatric cohort, most patients with COVID-19 admitted to de PICU were male, of school age, with associated comorbidity. Risk factors for developing severe COVID-19 were the presence of comorbidities such as acquired/congenital immunodeficiency, oncological pathology, and obesity, in addition to shock on admission and consolidations on X-rays.

Resumen Antecedentes: En los pseudoaneurismas infectados de arteria femoral asociados al uso de drogas intravenosas, la ligadura primaria para el tratamiento causa controversia, sin embargo, el territorio comprometido puede continuar irrigado por vías colaterales. Objetivo: Reportar la experiencia del manejo de pseudoaneurismas en un servicio de angiología y cirugía vascular. Métodos: Estudio observacional, descriptivo de una serie de casos. Resultados: Se reportan 15 pacientes, relación hombre: mujer 14:1, promedio de edad de 42 años. Siete (46.6%) con presentación de pseudoaneurisma femoral izquierdo, 5 (33.3%) de ellos con presentación de pseudoaneurisma femoral derecho, 2 (13.3%) con pseudoaneurisma humeral derecho y uno (6.6%) con pseudoaneurisma humeral izquierdo. En 12 se realizó exclusión del pseudoaneurisma con triple ligadura; y 3 pacientes fueron sometidos a revascularización. Conclusiones: En nuestra experiencia, la ligadura primaria sin revascularización tuvo incidencia de amputación baja y supervivencia alta de los pacientes afectados, siendo la claudicación la secuela más frecuente.

Abstract Background: In intravenous drug-infected femoral pseudoaneurysms, primary ligation for treatment is controversial, but the compromised territory can remain irrigated by collateral routes. Objective: To report the experience in the management of pseudoaneurysms in our angiology and vascular surgery service. Methods: Observational, descriptive study of a series of cases. Results: 15 patients are reported, male: female ratio 14:1, average age 42 years. Seven (46.6%) presented with a left femoral pseudoaneurysm, 5 (33.3%) presented with a right femoral pseudoaneurysm, 2 (13.3%) with a right brachial pseudoaneurysm, and one (6.6%) with a left brachial pseudoaneurysm. In 12, exclusion of the pseudoaneurysm was performed with triple ligation; 3 patients underwent revascularization. Conclusions: In our experience the primary ligature without revascularization has a low incidence of amputation and high survival of affected patients, being claudication the most frequent sequel.

Resumen Introducción: En el confinamiento durante la pandemia por COVID-19, los sistemas de salud tuvieron que reorganizarse de manera rápida y eficiente para la atención de estos pacientes. Asimismo, la participación de los fisioterapeutas fue esencial en el tratamiento y rehabilitación pulmonar de los pacientes con COVID-19; sin embargo, existen pocos fisioterapeutas en México con especialidad en terapia respiratoria. Objetivo: Describir los sistemas corporales a los que se enfocaron las intervenciones en el manejo de pacientes con COVID-19 por parte de los fisioterapeutas mexicanos, así como sus necesidades de formación. Método: Se realizó una encuesta a fisioterapeutas con licenciatura y que laboraban en los ámbitos público y privado en el periodo de confinamiento comprendido entre junio y septiembre del 2021. Los fisioterapeutas fueron invitados a través de Facebook y la página web oficial de la Licenciatura en Fisioterapia. Para conocer la consistencia interna de la encuesta calculamos el alfa de Cronbach, la cual resultó de 0.76, basado en elementos estandarizados. La encuesta incluyó preguntas relacionadas con los sistemas corporales hacia los que enfocaron sus intervenciones y las necesidades de formación para tratar pacientes con COVID-19. Resultados: Un total de 312 fisioterapeutas participaron en la encuesta, de los cuales 112 participaron en la atención de pacientes con COVID-19, cuyas intervenciones se enfocaron principalmente al sistema musculoesquelético y cardiorrespiratorio. El domicilio del paciente y la unidad de cuidados intensivos fueron los lugares donde más frecuentemente atendieron pacientes; 76.2% de los participantes reportaron la necesidad de conocimiento especializado y más de la mitad se basó su tratamiento en las guías de práctica clínica. Conclusiones: Los fisioterapeutas mexicanos se enfocaron principalmente en los sistemas musculoesquelético y respiratorio, durante la atención de los pacientes con COVID-19, y expresaron la necesidad de tener una formación especializada en el área respiratoria.

Abstract Introduction: During the confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic, health systems had to reorganize quickly and efficiently to care for these patients. Likewise, the participation of physiotherapists was essential in the treatment and pulmonary rehabilitation of patients with COVID-19, however, there are few physiotherapists in Mexico specializing in respiratory therapy. Objective: To describe the body systems that were focused on the interventions in the management of patients with COVID-19 by Mexican physiotherapists, as well as their training needs. Method: A survey was carried out on physiotherapists with a degree and who worked in the public and private spheres in the period of confinement between June and September 2021. The physiotherapists were invited through Facebook and the official website of the bachelor in Physiotherapy. To know the internal consistency of the survey, we calculated Cronbach’s alpha, which was 0.76 based on standardized elements. The survey included questions related to the body systems they targeted and training needs to treat patients with COVID-19. Results: A total of 312 physiotherapists participated in the survey, of which 112 participated in the care of patients with COVID-19 whose interventions focused on the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems. The patient’s home and the intensive care unit were the places where patients were most frequently attended; 76.2% of the participants reported the need for specialized knowledge and more than half based their treatment on clinical practice guidelines. Conclusions: Mexican physiotherapists focus mainly on the musculoskeletal and respiratory systems during the care of patients with COVID-19 and express the need for specialized training in the respiratory area.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las propiedades fisicoquímicas, morfológicas, estructurales y térmicas del almidón recuperado de los residuos de Solanum tuberosum de la industria de frituras en México, utilizando técnicas instrumentales avanzadas. La papa residual se recogió de una empresa productora de papas fritas y el almidón se obtuvo mediante extracción acuosa. El almidón presentó un contenido de carbohidratos de 87.79 %, proteínas (1.18 %), lípidos (0.15 %), cenizas (0.26 %) y amilosa (24.35 %). La capacidad de absorción de agua fue de 1.0163 g g-1, solubilidad (30.17 - 46.65 %), hinchamiento (2.31 - 8.69 g g-1). Los análisis térmicos mostraron una gelatinización del almidón entre 61.7 - 90 °C con una pérdida máxima de peso a 288.1 °C. La microscopía electrónica de barrido-espectroscopía dispersiva de energía (SEM-EDS) mostró partículas de 14 - 69 µm con una composición de 54.3 % de carbono, 45.4 % de oxígeno y 0.15 % de potasio. La dispersión dinámica de luz (DLS) mostró partículas de tamaño nanométrico (120 nm). La resonancia magnética nuclear (NMR) y la difracción de rayos X (XRD) exhibieron la cristalinidad del almidón como tipo B (34.73 %) y la reflectancia total atenuada por espectroscopia infrarroja transformada de Fourier (FTIR - ATR) mostró los grupos funcionales distintivos de la glucosa.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the physicochemical, morphological, structural, and thermal properties of starch recovered from Solanum tuberosum residual of chips industry in Mexico using advanced instrumental techniques. The residual potato was collected from a chips production company and the starch obtained by aqueous extraction. The starch presented a content of carbohydrates of 87.79 %, proteins (1.18 %), lipids (0.15 %), ashes (0.26 %), and amylose (24.35 %). The water absorption capacity was 1.0163 g g-1, solubility (30.17 - 46.65 %), swelling (2.31 - 8.69 g g-1). Thermal analyzes showed a starch gelatinization about 61.7 - 90 ºC with a maximum weight loss at 288.1 °C. The scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) showed particles of 14 - 69 µm with a composition of 54.3 % carbon, 45.4 % oxygen, and 0.15 % potassium. The dynamic light scattering (DLS) showed particles of nanometric size (120 nm). The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) exhibited the crystallinity of the starch as type B (34.73 %) and the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) showed the functional groups distinctive of the glucose.

Abstract Business sectors may be affected by changes in their activity levels. For this reason, the administration requires tools that allow to show the impact on its profitability. The asymmetry in the behavior of the costs of companies belonging to the economic sectors of beverage production and meat processing in Ecuador for the period between 2012 and 2018 was analyzed. 291 companies that presented activity were studied. For the study of sticky costs, 3 analysis variables were defined: operational income, total costs and expenses, and personnel costs and expenses; to which, four different study techniques were applied. The different analysis techniques show consistent and robust results, with the exception of the estimation using panel data in the meat sector. The study´s results show an asymmetric behavior within the costs, which suggest an inability for Ecuadorian companies to lower their costs due to a drop on their income, whereas, when their income raises, so does their cost; a fact that matches the recent evidence found worldwide. This asymmetry could be explained by factors such as regulatory rigidity or expectations of a quick business recovery.

Resumo Setores de negócios podem ser afetados por mudanças em seus níveis de atividade. Por essa razão, a administração necessita de ferramentas que permitam mostrar o impacto na sua rentabilidade. Foi analisado o comportamento assimétrico de custos das empresas pertencentes aos setores econômicos de produção de bebidas e processamento de carne no Equador para o período entre 2012 e 2018. Foram estudadas 291 empresas que apresentaram atividade. Para o estudo dos custos fixos, foram definidas 3 variáveis de análise: receitas operacionais, custos e despesas totais e custos e despesas com pessoal, às quais foram aplicadas quatro técnicas de estudo diferentes. As diferentes técnicas de análise mostram resultados consistentes e robustos, com exceção da estimativa usando dados em painel no setor de carnes. Os resultados do estudo mostram um comportamento assimétrico dentro dos custos, o que sugere uma incapacidade das empresas equatorianas de reduzir seus custos devido à queda de suas receitas, ao passo que, quando suas receitas aumentam, também aumentam seus custos; um fato que coincide com as evidências recentes encontradas em todo o mundo. Essa assimetria pode ser explicada por fatores como rigidez regulatória ou expectativas de recuperação rápida dos negócios.

Resumen El objetivo fue el ajuste de un modelo no lineal (MNL) para evaluar la curva de crecimiento en bovinos Limousin, en pureza de raza (PRZ) y cinco grados de cruzamiento (GPZ; 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, 31/32 de Limousin). Se analizó el peso vivo, el intervalo de peso al nacer a 500 días de edad. Se evaluaron cuatro MNL: Brody, Bertalanffy, Gompertz y logístico. Se estimaron parámetros de crecimiento: peso adulto (PAD); tasa de crecimiento (TAC); edad (EPI; meses) y peso (PPI; kg) al punto de inflexión; edad (meses; E50M) para alcanzar 50% de madurez y madurez a 15 meses (GM15). Con el MNL seleccionado en PRZ se caracterizó la curva de crecimiento en GPZ. El modelo de mejor ajuste fue Bertalanffy. El PAD para machos PRZ fue 566.1, para GPZ estuvo en el intervalo de 446.9 a 527.4; para hembras, en GPZ estuvo en el intervalo de 374.5 a 419.9, en PRZ fue 443.0. Los MNL presentaron correlaciones por debajo de -0.75 entre PAD y TAC. En vaquillas de PRZ, EPI se estimó a 3.7 con 131.2 para PPI; en GPZ, EPI y PPI estuvieron en los intervalos de 2.9 a 3.7 y 110.9 a 124.4, respectivamente. E50M para hembras, en PRZ fue a 10.6 y para GPZ en el intervalo de 8.9 a 10.5. GM15 para hembras, en GPZ el promedio fue 90.5 % en PRZ fue de 87.9 %. Los machos en PRZ alcanzan E50M a partir de 13 meses.

Abstract The objective was to fit a non-linear model (NLM) to evaluate the growth curve in purebred (PB) Limousin cattle and in five degrees of crossbreeding (DCBs: 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, 31/32 Limousin). Live weight, the birth weight interval at 500 d of age, was analyzed. Four NLMs were evaluated: Brody, Bertalanffy, Gompertz, and logistic. Growth parameters were estimated: adult weight (ADW); growth rate (GR); age (AIP; months) and weight (WIP; kg) at inflection point; age (months; A50M) to reach 50 % maturity and degree of maturity at 15 mo (DM15). The growth curve in DCB was characterized using the NLM selected for BP. The best-fitting model was Bertalanffy. The ADW for purebred (PB) males was 566.1, for crossbred (CB) males it was in the range of 446.9 to 527.4; for CB females it was in the range of 374.5 to 419.9, and for PB females, it was 443.0. The NLMs exhibited correlations below -0.75 between ADW and GR. In PB heifers, AIP was estimated at 3.7, and WIP, at 131.2; in CB heifers, AIP and WIP were in the ranges of 2.9 to 3.7 and 110.9 to 124.4, respectively. A50M for PB females was 10.6, and for CB females, within the range of 8.9 to 10.5. DM15 for CB females, the average was 90.5 %, and 87.9 % for PB females. PB males reach A50M at the age of 13 mo.

Resumen Las hojas de yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis A.St. Hil) y jarilla (Larrea divaricata Cav.) se usan comúnmente como infusión de té en algunos países de América Latina. Este estudio se realizó para evaluar la actividad antioxidante (FRAP, ABTS y DPPH) y el potencial inhibitorio de los extractos de yerba mate y jarilla sobre la proteasa 3CL (Mpro) de coronavirus SARS-COV-2 por enfoque de acoplamiento molecular. Los principales compuestos bioactivos presentes en los extractos de plantas fueron identificados por HPLC-MS. De acuerdo con los resultados, los extractos polifenólicos de yerba mate y jarilla presentaron alta actividad antioxidante en los ensayos DPPH (> 91 %), ABTS (> 90 %) y FRAP (> 47 mg TE/g). Además, los compuestos fenólicos presentes en la yerba mate, quercetina-3-O-rutinósido (rutina) (-9,60 kcal/ mol) y ácido 3,4-dicafeoilquínico (- 8,20 kcal/mol) han demostrado ser más efectivos (en Mpro) que los medicamentos antivirales remdesivir y ribavirin. Los compuestos rutina y ácido 3,4-dicafeoilquínico tienen alta afinidad e interacción con uno de los residuos catalíticos Cys145 de Mpro. Estos resultados sugieren que las hojas de yerba mate y jarilla podrían potenciar las defensas antioxidantes del organismo y podrían beneficiar la salud.

Abstract Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis A.St. Hil) and jarilla (Larrea divaricata Cav.) leaves are commonly used as tea infusions in some Latin American countries. This study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant activity (FRAP, ABTS, and DPPH) and the inhibitory potential of yerba mate and jarilla extracts on the 3CL protease (Mpro) from coronavirus SARS-COV-2 by a molecular docking approach. The main bioactive compounds present in the plant extracts were identified by HPLC-MS. According to the results, the extracts of yerba mate and jarilla showed high antioxidant activity in DPPH (> 91 %), ABTS (> 90 %), and FRAP (> 47 mg TE/g) assays. Additionally, the phenolic compounds present in yerba mate, quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (rutin) (-9.60 kcal/mol) and 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid (- 8.20 kcal/mol) were more effective on Mpro than the antiviral drugs remdesivir and ribavirin. The compounds rutin and 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid have a high affinity and interaction with one of the catalytic residues Cys145 of Mpro. The glycosylation of phenolic compounds affects biological activities: positively anti-COVID-19 and negatively antioxidant. The results suggest that extracts of yerba mate and jarilla leaves could enhance the body’s antioxidant defenses and can be used to improve health.

Resumen Introducción: Los países de ingresos bajos y medianos tienen problemas en el acceso y la provisión de atención quirúrgica, lo cual ocasiona un alto número de fallecimientos y de personas con discapacidad. Objetivo: Estimar la capacidad para la atención quirúrgica y de pacientes traumatizados en los hospitales públicos en la región de Piura, Perú, un país de ingreso mediano. Métodos: En los hospitales públicos de la región peruana de Piura se aplicó una encuesta que combinaba las versiones en español de las encuestas PIPES e INTACT y de la herramienta de análisis situacional de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Se evaluó la magnitud del evento mediante las diferencias absolutas entre las medianas de los puntajes calculados y pruebas bilaterales de Mann-Whitney según la ubicación geográfica y el nivel de complejidad hospitalaria. Resultados: Se evaluaron siete hospitales públicos que realizan cirugía en la región de Piura. Tres provincias (3/8) no contaban con instituciones sanitarias con complejidad de hospital. La mediana de los hospitales de las provincias periféricas tuvo tendencia a ser menor que la de la provincia capital en la INTACT (8,25 vs. 9,5, p = 0,04). Asimismo, se hallaron problemas de abastecimiento de agua (2/7), ausencia de incinerador (3/7), falta de funcionamiento permanente de tomógrafo (5/7) y problemas con el horario de funcionamiento de los bancos de sangre, ya que no funcionaban las 24 horas del día en 2 hospitales (2/7). Conclusiones: Se describe la alta desigualdad entre las provincias de la región en la capacidad de atención de trauma y varias carencias en la infraestructura sanitaria del sector público. Esta información es necesaria para desarrollar futura investigación de medición de capacidades en todos los establecimientos públicos y privados de la región peruana de Piura.

Abstract Introduction: Low and medium income countries face challenges in access and delivery of surgical care, resulting in a high number of deaths and disabled individuals. Objective: To estimate the capacity to provide surgical and trauma care in public hospitals in the Piura region, Perú, a middle income country. Methods: A survey was administered in public hospitals in the Peruvian region of Piura, which combined the Spanish versions of the PIPES and INTACT surveys, and the WHO situational analysis tool. The extent of the event was assessed based in the absolute differences between the medians of the scores estimated, and the Mann-Whitney bilateral tests, according to the geographical location and the level of hospital complexity. Results: Seven public hospitals that perform surgeries in the Piura region were assessed. Three provinces (3/8) did not have any complexity healthcare institutions. The average hospital in the peripheral provinces tended to be smaller than in the capital province in INTACT (8.25 vs. 9.5, p = 0.04). Additionally, water supply issues were identified (2/7), lack of incinerator (3/7), lack of uninterrupted availability of a CT-scanner (5/7) and problems with working hours; in other words, the blood banks in two hospitals were not open 24 hours. Conclusions: There is a significant inequality among the provinces in the region in terms of their trauma care capacities and several shortfalls in the public sector healthcare infrastructure. This information is required to conduct future research on capacity measurements in every public and private institution in the Peruvian region of Piura.
