Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and changes in lipoprotein. Literature data suggest that cholesterol associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDLc) plays a protective role against albuminuria and diabetic nephropathy. These factors are related with changes in serum apolipoproteins such Apo A-I. This work aims to evaluate the correlation of apolipoprotein A-I with renal function in diabetic outpatients. Samples were collected from 281 outpatients for analyses of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), serum creatinine (SCr), urea (BUN), cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), HDL-cholesterol (HDLc) and estimation of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Urinary samples were obtained to assess urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR). Triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) was calculated to estimate insulin resistance. The mean age was 61,5 ± 16,4 years. Most patients were female, Afro-Mestizo and over 50 years of age. Pearson's revealed negative correlation of creatinine with HDLc and Apo A-I. There was a correlation of eGFR with HbA1c, TG and HDLc. TyG presented a negative correlation with Apo A-I and HDLc. The highest quartiles of UACR presented the highest TyG and the lowest Apo A-I. In conclusion, Apo A-I indicated an association with insulin resistance and changes in renal function parameters, especially as a factor associated with the onset of albuminuria, with a better predictive potential than the HDLc.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the probability of pregnancy and associated factors for two times artificial inseminations (AI), 8 or 10 hours after automated activity monitoring (AAM) alarm on the first postpartum AI of 1,054 Holstein dairy cows. The estrus was synchronized by prostaglandin or estradiol-progesterone program. Stepwise logistic regression was performed to analyze the probability of pregnancy, and associated factors (activity, estrus intensity, parity, peripartum health, retained placenta, postpartum vaginal discharge, and season). The highest pregnancy rates were obtained with multiparous animals, inseminated ten hours after the AAM alarm, in the fall or winter season, with a high activity peak and estrus intensity (P < 0.05). Peripartum diseases, retained placenta, and postpartum vaginal discharge negatively influenced the pregnancy rate, regardless of parity. Thus, the optimization of AAM models by including on-farm measures like parity, peripartum health history, and environmental conditions may favor the correct identification of estrus and improve the AAM alarm regarding the ideal moment for AI, increasing the reproductive performance in dairy cows.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a probabilidade de prenhez e fatores associados para dois horários de inseminação artificial (IA), oito ou 10 horas após o alarme de monitoramento automatizado de atividades (AAM), na primeira IA pós-parto em 1.054 vacas leiteiras da raça Holandês. O estro foi sincronizado por protocolos a base de prostaglandina ou estradiol-progesterona. Regressão logística stepwise foi realizada para analisar a probabilidade de prenhez e fatores associados (atividade, intensidade do estro, paridade, saúde no periparto, placenta retida, descarga vaginal pós-parto e estação do ano). As maiores taxas de prenhez foram obtidas em multíparas, inseminadas 10 horas após o alarme do AAM, no outono ou inverno, com pico de atividade elevado e intensidade de estro (P < 0,05). Doenças no periparto, placenta retida e descarga vaginal pós-parto influenciaram negativamente a taxa de prenhez, independentemente da paridade. Assim, a otimização dos modelos de AAM, incluindo medidas rotineiras da fazenda como paridade, histórico de saúde no periparto e condições ambientais, podem favorecer a identificação correta do estro e melhorar o alarme do AAM em relação ao momento ideal para a IA, aumentando o desempenho reprodutivo nas vacas leiteiras.

Abstract Deglutition, usually compromised, is a cognitive or complex, obstructive, degenerative process in origin. Dysphagia is defined as the sensation of holding liquid or solid material when it is swallowed. In view of the gaps in our care practice, a working group was created in the service to address the needs felt. The main objective is to provide an effective response in the evaluation of clients who present signs and symptoms of dysphagia, with a view to referring them to the multidisciplinary team. We decided to research the non-invasive responses of dysphagia, the assessment different from ours, through this literature review, in order to find the differences that exist between various methods and test their reliability and other attempts compared to the evaluation method we use at the moment. We conclude that there are two other methods of swallowing assessment: the TOR-BSST and the GUSS Scale, both of which are highly reliable.

Resumo A deglutição é um processo complexo, podendo ser comprometido por fatores neurológicos, obstrutivos, degenerativos ou de origem cognitiva. A disfagia é definida como a sensação de impedimento à passagem de material líquido ou sólido quando este é deglutido. Perante as lacunas existentes na nossa prática de cuidados, foi criado um grupo de trabalho no serviço, para fazer face às necessidades sentidas. O grande objetivo é dar uma resposta eficaz na avaliação dos doentes que apresentam sinais e sintomas de disfagia, tendo em vista a sua referenciação à equipa multidisciplinar. Decidimos procurar respostas quanto a outros métodos de avaliação não invasiva da disfagia, diferentes do nosso, através desta revisão de literatura, por forma a encontrar as diferenças que existem entre os vários métodos e testar a sua fiabilidade e eficácia comparativamente ao método de avaliação que utilizamos neste momento. Concluímos que existem dois outros métodos de avaliação da deglutição: o TOR-BSST e a Escala de GUSS, sendo estes dois métodos de alta fiabilidade.

ABSTRACT Introduction: To date, 340 antigen-organized 43 blood group systems are recognized, being ABO, Rh, Kell, Duffy, Kidd, MNS and Diego the most clinically relevant. The aim of this study was to assess the distribution of alleles and genotypes of the blood group systems Rh, Kell, Duffy, Kidd, MNS and Diego in 810 blood donors registered in the hemotherapy unit in northwest Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil Methods: We evaluated the genetic variability of blood groups Rh (c.676G>C and c.307C>T), Kell (c.578C>T), Kidd (c.838A>G), Duffy (c.125A>G and c.l-67T>C), Diego (c.2561C>T) and MNS (c.143T>C) in 810 volunteer blood donors of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The genetic profiling was performed through allelic discrimination assays using hydrolysis probes (TaqMan®) real-time PCR system. Results: The most frequent blood group genotypes found in our study population were: RHC*Cc (51.5%), RHC*ee (70.1%), FY*A/FY*B (49.3%), GATA -67T/T (93.5%), KEL*2/KEL*2 (93.4%), Jk*A/JK*B (53.2%) and DI*02/DI*02 (95.4%). Some statistical differences were observed on comparing the population of this study with populations from other states in Brazil, mainly with population of Minas Gerais, Bahia and Paraná, which showed some differences from the population of Porto Alegre, which was more similar to those of Santa Catarina and São Paulo Conclusion: The frequency of red blood cell polymorphisms in our study is different from that of blood donors in other regions of Brazil. The results showed the importance of extended genotyping in adequate blood screening and the existence of rare genotypes in Brazilian regular blood donors

Abstract The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention propose the term long COVID or post-COVID conditions for symptoms that develop during or after COVID-19, continue for at least two months, and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed at estimating the proportion of COVID-19 patients that presented post-COVID conditions, describing their baseline characteristics and main persisting symptoms. We included 497 adult patients who had recovered from mild to moderate COVID-19, using a structured questionnaire, 12 to 16 weeks after disease onset. The cumulative incidence for post-COVID conditions was 47.5% (n=236). The most frequent symptoms were fatigue (n=151, 30.4%) and dyspnea (n=131, 26.4%). After adjusting for covariables male gender was found to be associated with lower odds of post-COVID conditions (OR=0.36, p<0.001). Body Mass Index <20 (OR=0.28, p=0.014) and [30-35[ (OR=0.42, p=0.006) seemed to have less persistent symptoms when compared to [20-25[. No other baseline demographic or clinical features were found to be significantly associated with post-COVID conditions. Our study suggests that post-COVID conditions persist in a large subset of non-severe diseases. Physicians should continue to monitor these patients to identify and treat post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in what concerns primary care.

Resumo O Centro para Controlo e Prevenção de Doenças propõe o termo COVID longo ou condições pós-COVID para sintomas desenvolvidos durante ou após a COVID-19 e que persistem pelo menos dois meses, não sendo explicados por outros diagnósticos. Este estudo transversal tem como objetivo determinar a proporção de doentes com condições pós-COVID, descrevendo as suas características demográficas e clínicas e sintomas persistentes mais comuns. Foram incluídos 497 adultos com doença ligeira a moderada por COVID-19, avaliados por questionário estruturado após 12 a 16 semanas da infeção por SARS-CoV-2. A incidência cumulativa de condições pós-COVID foi de 47,5% (n=236). Os sintomas persistentes mais frequentes foram a astenia (n=151, 30,4%) e a dispneia (n=131, 26,4%). Após análise multivariada verificou-se que o sexo masculino está associado a menor incidência de condições pós-COVID (OR=0,36, p<0,001). Constatou-se ainda que índices de massa corporal <20 (OR=0,28, p=0,014) e [30-35[ (OR=0,42, p=0,006) apresentaram menor persistência de sintomas quando comparados com [20-25[. Nenhuma outra característica demográfica ou clínica apresentou associação estatisticamente significativa para condições pós-COVID. O estudo sugere que as condições pós-COVID são frequentes na doença não-severa. O acompanhamento destes doentes deverá manter-se com o intuito de identificar e tratar sequelas pós-infeção aguda por SARS-CoV-2, particularmente no que respeita aos cuidados de saúde primários.

Abstract: Introduction: Tracheotomy is commonly used in patients with head and neck cancer undergoing major surgery. Purpose: To identify the nursing interventions in the safe decannulation process in patients undergoing head and neck cancer surgery. Methods: Rapid systematic review on MEDLINE and CIHNAL, January 2023. Results: Seven studies met the inclusion criteria. The nursing interventions was grouped into before, during and after the decannulation. Conclusion: Literature review shows the need for a structured nursing process supporting safe decannulation. The team must ensure that the reason for performing the tracheotomy were resolved and that no anesthetic or surgical procedure is foreseen shortly. These are essential factors associated with the state of consciousness, deflated tube cuff and tube cap tolerance prior decannulation. The literature highlights the need for experienced teams, including nurses, to ensure the safe decannulation process.

Resumo: Introdução: A traqueostomia é habitualmente utilizada em doentes com cancro de cabeça e pescoço submetidos a cirurgias major. Objetivo: Identificar as intervenções de enfermagem no processo de remoção da cânula com segurança em doentes submetidos a cirurgia oncológica de cabeça e pescoço. Métodos: Revisão sistemática rápida no MEDLINE e CINHAL, janeiro de 2023. Resultados: Sete estudos preencheram os critérios de inclusão. As intervenções de enfermagem foram agrupadas em: antes, durante e após a remoção da cânula. Conclusão: A revisão da literatura mostra a necessidade de um processo de enfermagem estruturado que apoie a remoção segura da cânula. A equipa deve garantir que o motivo da realização da traqueotomia esteja resolvido e que nenhum procedimento anestésico ou cirúrgico esteja previsto para breve. Estes são alguns dos fatores essenciais, associados ao estado de consciência, cuff desinsuflado e tolerância à oclusão da cânula de traqueotomia, antes da sua remoção. A literatura destaca a necessidade de equipas experientes, incluindo enfermeiros, para garantir que o processo de remoção da cânula seja seguro.

Abstract Drag crisis has been described as a drop in the drag coefficient (Cd). This procedure was lately assessed in able-bodied cyclists in time trial position by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the phenomenon of the drag crisis by computer fluid dynamics in transradial and transtibial amputee cyclists in the upright position. A male elite-level cyclist was recruited for this research. The subject was scanned (3D geometry with a 3D Scan) with his competition bicycle, helmet, suit, and shoes. Consequently, transradial and transtibial 3D models were created editing the able-bodied 3D model. To perform the CFD analyses, a domain measuring 7 x 2.5 x 2.5 m (length, width and height, respectively) was created around each bicycle-cyclist model. The domains were meshed with more than 42 million elements. Numerical simulations by CFD were performed in fluent numerical for speeds between 1 m/s and 13 m/s, with increments of 1 m/s. The total Cd decreased with speed. It ranged from 0.84 to 0.55 in the able-bodied, 0.86 to 0.64 in the transradial and 0.90 to 0.61 in the transtibial. The drag crisis phenomenon was observed between 1m/s and 4m/s in all models.

Abstract Background Flexibility is crucial to the harmonious execution of joint movements. While skeletal muscle dysfunction in patients with HTLV-1 can interfere with mobility, it is unclear whether these patients experience reduced flexibility. Objective To evaluate the differences in flexibility between HTLV-1-infected individuals with and without myelopathy compared with uninfected controls. We also investigated whether age, sex, body mass index (BMI), physical activity level, or lower back pain influence flexibility in HTLV-1-infected individuals. Methods The sample consisted of 56 adults, of which 15 did not have HTLV-1, 15 had HTLV-1 without myelopathy, and 26 had TSP/HAM. Their flexibility was assessed using the sit-and-reach test and a pendulum fleximeter. Results No differences in flexibility were observed between the groups with and without myelopathy and controls without HTLV-1 infection using the sit-and-reach test. The pendulum fleximeter results of individuals with TSP/HAM presented the lowest flexibility among the groups with respect to trunk flexion, hip flexion and extension, knee flexion, and ankle dorsiflexion, even after adjusting for age, sex, BMI, level of physical activity, and lower back pain using multiple linear regression models. Additionally, HTLV-1-infected individuals without myelopathy demonstrated reduced flexibility in movements: knee flexion, dorsiflexion, and ankle plantar flexion. Conclusions Individuals with TSP/HAM demonstrated reduced flexibility in most of the movements evaluated by the pendulum fleximeter. Additionally, HTLV-1-infected individuals without myelopathy demonstrated reduced knee and ankle flexibility, potentially representing a marker of myelopathic development.

Resumo Antecedentes A flexibilidade é fundamental para a execução harmoniosa dos movimentos articulares. Embora a disfunção do músculo esquelético em pacientes com HTLV-1 possa interferir na mobilidade, não está claro se esses pacientes apresentam flexibilidade reduzida. Objetivo Avaliar as diferenças de flexibilidade entre os indivíduos infectados com e sem mielopatia e o grupo controle sem infecção HTLV-1. Também investigamos se idade, sexo, índice de massa corporal (IMC), nível de atividade física ou dor lombar influenciam a flexibilidade em indivíduos infectados pelo HTLV-1. Métodos A amostra foi composta por 56 adultos, dos quais 15 não possuíam HTLV-1, 15 possuíam HTLV-1 sem mielopatia e 26 possuíam TSP/HAM. A flexibilidade foi avaliada por meio do teste de sentar e alcançar e do flexímetro de pêndulo. Resultados Não foram observadas diferenças na flexibilidade entre os grupos com e sem mielopatia no teste de sentar e alcançar. Os resultados do flexímetro pendular dos indivíduos com TSP/HAM apresentaram a menor flexibilidade entre os grupos em relação à flexão do tronco, flexão e extensão do quadril, flexão do joelho e dorsiflexão do tornozelo, mesmo após ajuste para idade, sexo, IMC, nível de atividade física e dor lombar usando modelos de regressão múltipla linear. Além disso, os indivíduos infectados pelo HTLV-1 sem mielopatia demonstraram redução da flexibilidade nos movimentos de flexão do joelho, dorsiflexão e flexão plantar do tornozelo. Conclusão Indivíduos com TSP/HAM demonstraram redução da flexibilidade na maioria dos movimentos avaliados pelo flexímetro pendular. Além disso, indivíduos infectados pelo HTLV-1 sem mielopatia demonstraram redução da flexibilidade do joelho e tornozelo, representando potencialmente um marcador de desenvolvimento mielopático.

Abstract Oil spills into water have been an environmental concern since the beginning of large-scale oil extraction. In this study, flexible open-cell polyurethane (PU) foams with added microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) were formulated and chemically modified with organosilane for use as an absorbent system for oil spill cleanup in water. The influence of cellulose concentration on mechanical properties and chemical treatment with organosilane was evaluated. The primary findings indicate that the surface treatment of the solid fraction of the foams was effective, as indicated by the contact angle, increasing the hydrophobicity of the samples. Because of the increased roughness of the PU solid fraction and the cellulose reactivity, the mechanical compressive strength and thickness of the organosilane layer increased with increasing MCC content. However, the higher the MCC content in the composition, the higher was the density, which reduced the sorption capacity of the samples.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the relationship between one-minute sit-to-stand test (1MSTST) parameters and a diagnosis of post COVID-19 condition in a cohort of patients who previously had COVID-19. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study of patients with post COVID-19 condition referred for body plethysmography at a tertiary university hospital. Post COVID-19 condition was defined in accordance with the current WHO criteria. Results: Fifty-three patients were analyzed. Of those, 25 (47.2%) met the clinical criteria for post COVID-19 condition. HR was lower in the patients with post COVID-19 condition than in those without it at 30 s after initiation of the 1MSTST (86.2 ± 14.3 bpm vs. 101.2 ± 14.7 bpm; p < 0.001) and at the end of the test (94.4 ± 18.2 bpm vs. 117.3 ± 15.3 bpm; p < 0.001). The ratio between HR at the end of the 1MSTST and age-predicted maximal HR (HRend/HRmax) was lower in the group of patients with post COVID-19 condition (p < 0.001). An HRend/HRmax of < 62.65% showed a sensitivity of 78.6% and a specificity of 82.0% for post COVID-19 condition. Mean SpO2 at the end of the 1MSTST was lower in the patients with post COVID-19 condition than in those without it (94.9 ± 3.6% vs. 96.8 ± 2.4%; p = 0.030). The former group of patients did fewer repetitions on the 1MSTST than did the latter (p = 0.020). Conclusions: Lower SpO2 and HR at the end of the 1MSTST, as well as lower HR at 30 s after initiation of the test, were associated with post COVID-19 condition. In the appropriate clinical setting, an HRend/HRmax of < 62.65% should raise awareness for the possibility of post COVID-19 condition.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a relação entre parâmetros do teste de se sentar e levantar durante um minuto (TSL1) e o diagnóstico de síndrome pós-COVID-19 em uma coorte de pacientes que anteriormente apresentaram COVID-19. Métodos: Estudo prospectivo de coorte de pacientes com síndrome pós-COVID-19 encaminhados para realizar pletismografia corporal em um hospital universitário terciário. A síndrome pós-COVID-19 foi definida conforme os critérios atuais da OMS. Resultados: Foram analisados 53 pacientes. Destes, 25 (47,2%) preencheram os critérios clínicos de síndrome pós-COVID-19. A FC foi menor nos pacientes com síndrome pós-COVID-19 do que naqueles sem a síndrome 30 s após o início do TSL1 (86,2 ± 14,3 bpm vs. 101,2 ± 14,7 bpm; p < 0,001) e no fim do teste (94,4 ± 18,2 bpm vs. 117,3 ± 15,3 bpm; p < 0,001). A relação entre a FC no fim do TSL1 e a FC máxima prevista para a idade (FCfim/FCmáx) foi menor nos pacientes com síndrome pós-COVID-19 (p < 0,001). A relação FCfim/FCmáx < 62,65% apresentou sensibilidade de 78,6% e especificidade de 82,0% para síndrome pós-COVID-19. A média da SpO2 no fim do TSL1 foi menor nos pacientes com síndrome pós-COVID-19 do que naqueles sem a síndrome (94,9 ± 3,6% vs. 96,8 ± 2,4%; p = 0,030). Os pacientes com síndrome pós-COVID-19 realizaram menos repetições durante o TSL1 do que os sem a síndrome (p = 0,020). Conclusões: SpO2 e FC mais baixas no fim do TSL1 e FC mais baixa 30 s após o início do teste apresentaram relação com síndrome pós-COVID-19. No contexto clínico apropriado, a relação FCfim/FCmáx < 62,65% deve alertar para a possibilidade de síndrome pós-COVID-19.

Developing biomaterials for tissue regeneration is a promising alternative for the recovery of various tissues, including bone. Atorvastatin (ATV) has a series of beneficial effects which includes bone anabolism, vasodilating, and anti-inflammatory actions. The main objective of this work was to produce and characterize polycaprolactone (PCL) matrices incorporated with ATV. Samples were prepared by the solvent casting technique. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and in vitro release studies were performed. FTIR analysis showed that no chemical bonds were formed between PCL and ATV. SEM analysis showed that the amount of ATV affects sample morphology. According to XRD and thermal analysis, the main ATV characteristics were maintained. The studies showed that PCL/ATV samples release the drug in a prolonged way since its release reaches around 50% after 15000 minutes of analysis and the model that showed the best fit for the studied matrices was the Higuchi model, with a correlation coefficient above 0.95.

ABSTRACT Introduction: cutaneous melanoma (MC) is a malignant neoplasm derived from melanocytic cells with an aggressive behavior. It is usually associated with the multifactorial interaction of genetic susceptibility and environmental exposure, usually ultraviolet radiation. Despite advances in treatment, the disease remains relentless with poor prognosis. Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is a technique used to screen patients in need of lymph node dissection. Objectives: to correlate the tumor burden in the SLN with the mortality of patients undergoing SLN biopsy. Methodology: the medical records and histological slides of patients with MC who underwent SLN biopsy treated at HC-Unicamp from 2001 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The positive SLN were measured according to the size of the tumor infiltration area, for analysis of the depth of invasion (DI), closest proximity to the capsule (CPC) and tumor burden (TB). For statistical analysis, associations between variables were analyzed using Fishers exact test, with post Bonferroni test and Wilcoxon test. Results: 105 records of patients who underwent SLN biopsy of MC were identified. Of these, nine (8.6%) had positive SLN and 81 (77.1%) had negative SLN. The performed lymphadenectomies resulted in 55.6% (n=5) affected, 22.2% (n=2) without disease and 22.2% (n=2) were not performed. Mean CPC, TB, and DI were 0.14mm, 32.10mm and 2.33mm, respectively. Patients with T2 and T3 tumors were more likely to show the SLN affected (p=0.022). No patient with positive SLN died during follow-up. Conclusion: patients who presented T3 staging are the ones who most presented positive SLN.

RESUMO Introdução: o melanoma cutâneo (MC) é uma neoplasia maligna de comportamento agressivo, derivada das células melanocíticas, geralmente causado pela associação de interação da suscetibilidade genética e a exposição ambiental. A biópsia do linfonodo sentinela (LNS) é um procedimento utilizado para rastreamento de doentes com necessidade ou não de linfadenectomia, diminuindo a exposição do paciente a cirurgias maiores. Objetivos: correlacionar a carga do tumor no LNS com a mortalidade de pacientes com MC. Métodos: foram examinados retrospectivamente prontuários e lâminas histológicas de doentes com MC submetidos a biópsia de LNS atendidos no HC-Unicamp entre o período compreendido de 2001 a 2021. Os LNS positivos foram mensurados quanto ao tamanho da área de infiltração do tumor, para análise da profundidade de invasão (PI), menor proximidade com a cápsula (MPC) e carga do tumor (CT). As associações entre as variáveis foram analisadas pelo teste Exato de Fisher, com pós teste de Bonferroni e Wilcoxon. Resultados: foram identificados 105 pacientes com biópsia de LNS, sendo nove (8,6%) casos com LNS positivo. A média de MDC, CT e PI foram 0,14 mm, 32,10 mm, e 2,33 mm, respectivamente. Doentes com tumores T2 e T3 apresentaram maior chance de acometimento do LNS (p=0,022). Nenhum paciente com LNS positivo foi a óbito durante o acompanhamento. Conclusão: doentes que apresentaram tumores maiores (T2 e T3) apresentaram maior chance de linfonodos sentinelas positivos. Além do tamanho do tumor, a presença de maior carga do tumor demonstrou que os mesmos podem ser beneficiados pela biópsia de LNS.

ABSTRACT Brazil owns a large vegetal covering and the best utilization of these materials requires physical and mechanical characterization procedures. Equations found in the literature make easier the wood properties determination. At this context, well known authors developed the equation βl = βt/23, being βl and βt the longitudinal and tangential shrinkage percentages, for βl estimation based on the βt value specially for wood species from the Northern hemisphere. This paper aims to investigate the accuracy of this equation for fifteen tropical Brazilian wood species covering the entire range of hardwood strength classes according to the Brazilian Normative ABNT NBR7190. The average experimental values of βl and βt were 7.71% (CV = 26,71%) and 0.73% (CV = 38,76%), respectively. The non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA refuted the hypothesis of equivalence between theoretical and experimental βl values (p-value = 0.0000). A linear regression model fitted to experimental values provided βl = βt/9,84 as optimal solution (p-value = 0.0000, R2 = 47,23%). According to results it is possible to conclude that the value of longitudinal shrinkage percentage of tropical Brazilian wood species is statistically 2,34 times greater than the value found in the literature, which impacts the design of timber structures procedures increasing the internal stresses in timber structural elements.

RESUMO O Brasil possui grande cobertura vegetal e o melhor aproveitamento desses materiais requer procedimentos de caracterização física e mecânica. Equações encontradas na literatura facilitam a determinação das propriedades da madeira. Nesse contexto, autores conhecidos desenvolveram a equação βl = βt/23, sendo βl e βt as porcentagens de retração longitudinal e tangencial, para estimativa de βl com base no valor de βl especialmente para espécies de madeira do hemisfério Norte. Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a precisão desta equação para quinze espécies de madeiras tropicais brasileiras cobrindo toda a faixa de classes de resistência da madeira de lei de acordo com o Norma Brasileira ABNT NBR 7190. Os valores experimentais médios de βl e βt foram 7,71% (CV = 26,71 %) e 0,73% (CV = 38,76%), respectivamente. A ANOVA não paramétrica de Kruskal-Wallis refutou a hipótese de equivalência entre os valores de βl teórico e experimental (p-valor = 0,0000). Um modelo de regressão linear ajustado aos valores experimentais forneceu βl =βt/9,84 como solução ótima (p-valor = 0,0000, R² = 47,23%). De acordo com os resultados, é possível concluir que o valor da porcentagem de retração longitudinal das espécies de madeira tropical brasileira é estatisticamente 2,34 vezes maior que o valor encontrado na literatura, o que impacta nos procedimentos de dimensionamento de estruturas de madeira aumentando as tensões internas nas estruturas de madeira.

ABSTRACT: The present study assessed the influence of environmental variables at birth (birth season, temperature, relative humidity, THI - temperature and humidity index) and newborn serum protein level of 450 Holstein heifers on growth (body weight, and mortality rate) and reproductive performance (weight and age at puberty, age at first conception, and conception rate at first artificial insemination). The immune passive transfer was positively related to the weights at 30 and 60, with a trend at 90 days, which consequently affected weight at puberty, age at puberty, and age at conception. Therefore, it reinforces the importance of protocols with newborns that allow the assessment of the passive transfer of immunity. Calves born during the warmer months exhibited 4.2 and 12.28 kg less weight at weaning and puberty, respectively, compared to calves born during winter. Thus, calves born in an environment with higher THI showed changes in development, health, and reproductive efficiency in the short, medium, and long term. These findings reinforce the importance of adopting better colostrum management and welfare conditions, especially in warm season, to allow successful immune passive transfer and increase system efficiency.

RESUMO: O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência das variáveis ambientais ao nascimento (estação de nascimento, temperatura, umidade relativa, ITU - índice de temperatura e umidade) e nível de proteína sérica no recém-nascido de 450 novilhas Holandesas sobre o crescimento (peso corporal e taxa de mortalidade) e o desempenho reprodutivo (peso e idade na puberdade, idade na primeira concepção e taxa de concepção na primeira inseminação artificial). A transferência de imunidade passiva foi positivamente relacionada ao peso corporal aos 30, 60 e 90 dias, o que consequentemente afetou o peso na puberdade, idade na puberdade e idade na concepção. Isto reforça a importância de protocolos com recém-nascidos que permitem a avaliação da transferência passiva de imunidade. Os bezerros nascidos durante os meses mais quentes apresentaram 4,2 e 12,28 kg de peso a menos no desmame e na puberdade, respectivamente, em comparação aos bezerros nascidos durante o inverno. Assim, os bezerros nascidos em um ambiente com maior THI apresentaram alterações no desenvolvimento, saúde e eficiência reprodutiva a curto, médio e longo prazo. Esses achados reforçam a importância de adotar melhores condições de manejo e bem-estar do colostro, especialmente nas estações mais quentes, para permitir a transferência de imunidade passiva bem sucedida e aumentar a eficiência do sistema.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate factors associated with negative self-rated health among middle-aged women treated at a climacteric outpatient clinic. Method: This is a cross-sectional, analytical study conducted with 116 women assisted in the period between March 2015 and March 2020 at the climacteric outpatient clinic of a university hospital in Cuiabá, MT, Brazil. Data were collected through telephone interviews from October 2020 to January 2021, using a questionnaire containing questions about sociodemographic, health and psychosocial data. Self-rated health was checked by asking the subjects how they rated their health. The association measure used was the prevalence ratio and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Poisson’s multiple regression was used in the multivariate analysis. Results: Most middle-aged women in this study (54.3%) had negative self-rated health. The factor associated with the outcome was menopausal symptoms (p< 0.001), identified in the severe menopausal symptoms category PR= 2.95 (95%CI 1.4-6.3). Conclusion: The higher prevalence of negative self-rated health among the women in this study is probably related to the life stage they are experiencing. Menopausal symptoms are associated with women’s perception of health due to their discomfort and consequent impact on their lives.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Evaluar los factores asociados con la autopercepción de salud negativa entre mujeres de mediana edad atendidas en un ambulatorio de climaterio. Método: Estudio transversal, analítico, realizado con 116 mujeres atendidas en el período comprendido entre marzo de 2015 y marzo de 2020 en el ambulatorio de climaterio de un hospital universitario de Cuiabá-MT, Brasil. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevistas telefónicas, de octubre de 2020 a enero de 2021, utilizando un cuestionario que contenía preguntas sobre datos sociodemográficos, de salud y psicosociales. La salud autoevaluada se verificó preguntando cómo calificaron su salud. La medida de asociación utilizada fue la razón de prevalencia e intervalos de confianza del 95% (IC 95%). En el análisis multivariante se utilizó la regresión múltiple de Poisson. Resultados: La mayoría de las mujeres de mediana edad en este estudio (54,3%) tenían una autoevaluación de salud negativa. El factor asociado al desenlace fueron los síntomas menopáusicos (p< 0,001), identificados en la categoría síntomas menopáusicos severos PR= 2,95 (IC 95% 1,4-6,3). Conclusión: La mayor prevalencia de autoevaluación de salud negativa entre las mujeres de este estudio probablemente esté relacionada con la etapa de la vida en la que se encuentran. Los síntomas de la menopausia están asociados a la percepción de salud de la mujer por su malestar y consecuente impacto en su vida.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar os fatores associados à autoavaliação da saúde negativa de mulheres de meia-idade atendidas em um ambulatório de climatério. Metodo: Estudo transversal, analítico, desenvolvido com 116 mulheres atendidas no período entre março de 2015 e março de 2020 no ambulatório de climatério de um hospital universitário de Cuiabá-MT. Os dados foram coletados, por meio de entrevista por telefone, no período de outubro de 2020 a janeiro de 2021, utilizando-se questionário contendo perguntas sobre dados sociodemográficos, de saúde e psicossociais. A autoavaliação da saúde foi verificada perguntando como elas avaliavam sua saúde. A medida de associação utilizada foi a razão de prevalência e intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC 95%). Na análise multivariada utilizou-se a regressão múltipla de Poisson. Resultados: A maioria das mulheres de meia-idade deste estudo (54,3%) apresenta autoavaliação da saúde negativa. O fator que apresentou associação ao desfecho foi sintomas da menopausa (p< 0,001), identificado na categoria de sintomas severos da menopausa RP= 2,95 (IC 95% 1,4- 6,3). Conclusão: A maior prevalência de autoavaliação da saúde negativa das mulheres deste estudo, provavelmente, tem relação com a fase da vida em que estão vivenciando. Os sintomas da menopausa têm associação com a percepção de saúde das mulheres pelos seus desconfortos e consequente impacto em suas vidas.
