Abstract Instruments to evaluate psychosocial determinants of fruit and vegetable (F&V) consumption among adolescents are scarce, and there appears to be only one instrument - unnamed and unvalidated - that investigates determinants derived from theories of social psychology targeting the frequency of F&V consumption among adolescents. The scope of this paper was to present the process of cultural adaptation and factor validation of this instrument al-lowing its use in studies with Brazilian adolescents. The cross-cultural adaptation process was accomplished and the final version - named Psychosocial Influence Scale for Fruit and Vegetable Consumption among Adolescents (PSI-FAVES) - was tested with 429 students (58% female) using McDonald’s omega (ω) reliability and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) as analytical methods. The final version required refinement and the instrument showed adequate overall reliability (ω=0.86) and good fit of the data to the previously elaborated model (CFI=0.955; TLI=0.951 and RMSEA (90%CI) =0.043 (0.038-0.049)), being the first systematically validated instrument to investigate psychosocial determinants of F&V consumption among adolescents.

Resumo Instrumentos para avaliar determinantes psicossociais da ingestão de frutas, verduras e legumes (FLV) de adolescentes são escassos, e há um instrumento - sem nome e validação - que investiga estes determinantes oriundos de teorias da psicologia social e direcionado à frequência de ingestão semanal de FLV de adolescentes. O objetivo foi apresentar o processo de adaptação e validação fatorial deste instrumento para ser aplicado em estudos na população brasileira. Realizou-se equivalência conceitual e de itens; equivalência semântica por tradutores e especialistas e semântica e operacional por entrevistas dirigidas com público-alvo. A versão final - denominada Escala de Influências Psicossociais da ingestão de Frutas, Verduras e Legumes de Adolescentes (PSI-FAVES) - foi testada com 429 estudantes (58% mulheres) utilizando confiabilidade por ômega de McDonald (ω) e Análise Fatorial Confirmatória (AFC) como métodos analíticos. A versão final demandou refinamento e o instrumento apresentou confiabilidade total adequada (ω=0,86) e bom ajuste dos dados ao modelo previamente conjecturado (CFI=0,955; TLI=0,951 e RMSEA (90%IC)=0,043 (0,038-0,049), sendo o primeiro instrumento sistematicamente validado para investigar determinantes psicossociais da ingestão de FLV de adolescentes.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the replacement of choline chloride supplementation by herbal choline in the diet of nursery piglets. The experimental design was randomized complete blocks (initial weight and sex) with 80 piglets, in five treatments, with eight replicates. The treatments consisted of: negative control, basal diet supplemented with 300 mg kg-1 choline via choline chloride, basal diet supplemented with 600 mg kg-1 choline via choline chloride, basal diet supplemented with 100 mg kg-1 herbal choline, and basal diet supplemented with 200 mg kg-1 herbal choline. Zootechnical performance data, blood parameters, and economic viability were analyzed. Herbal choline supplementation increases the body weight and daily feed intake of nursery piglets. The supplementation with 100 mg kg-1 herbal choline presents the highest return on investment. Herbal choline can be used as a source of choline supplementation in the diet of nursery piglets to replace choline chloride.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a substituição da suplementação de cloreto de colina por colina herbal na dieta de leitões na creche. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso (peso inicial e sexo) com 80 leitões, em cinco tratamentos, com oito repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram em: controle negativo, dieta basal com suplementação de 300 mg kg-1 de colina via cloreto de colina, dieta basal com suplementação de 600 mg kg-1 de colina via cloreto de colina, dieta basal com suplementação de 100 mg kg-1 de colina herbal e dieta basal com suplementação de 200 mg kg-1 de colina herbal. Dados de desempenho zootécnico, parâmetros sanguíneos e viabilidade econômica foram analisados. A suplementação de colina herbal aumenta o peso corporal e o consumo diário de ração em leitões na creche. A suplementação com 100 mg kg-1 de colina herbal apresenta o maior retorno sobre o investimento. A colina herbal pode ser utilizada como fonte de suplementação de colina na dieta de leitões na creche, para substituir o cloreto de colina.

Abstract The Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, through the Guidelines Project, presents new Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Guidelines, on the subject of care for abdominal aortic aneurysm patients. Its development prioritized descriptive guidelines, using the EMBASE, LILACS, and PubMed databases. References include randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and cohort studies. Quality of evidence was evaluated by a pair of coordinators, aided by the RoB 2 Cochrane tool and the Newcastle Ottawa Scale forms. The subjects include juxtarenal aneurysms, infected aneurysms, and new therapeutic techniques, especially endovascular procedures. The current version of the guidelines include important recommendations for the primary topics involving diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for abdominal aortic aneurysm patients, providing an objective guide for medical practice, based on scientific evidence and widely available throughout Brazil.

Resumo A Sociedade Brasileira de Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular, por meio do projeto Diretrizes, apresenta as novas Diretrizes de Aorta Abdominal, referentes aos cuidados de pacientes com aneurisma de aorta abdominal. Para sua elaboração, foram priorizadas diretrizes descritivas, utilizando as bases EMBASE, LILACS e PubMed. As referências incluem ensaios clínicos randomizados, revisões sistemáticas, metanálises e estudos de coorte. A qualidade das evidências foi examinada por uma dupla de coordenadores, com auxílio da ferramenta RoB 2 da Colaboração Cochrane e dos formulários da Newcastle Ottawa Scale. Aneurismas justarrenais, infectados e novas técnicas terapêuticas, principalmente no âmbito endovascular, estão entre os temas estudados. A versão atual das Diretrizes apresenta importantes recomendações para os principais itens que envolvem o diagnóstico, tratamento e acompanhamento de pacientes com aneurisma de aorta abdominal, oferecendo um guia objetivo para prática médica, construído a partir de evidências científicas e amplamente acessível em todo o território nacional.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to evaluate the the ability of foliar application of potassium nitrate (KNO3) to induce water deficit tolerance in sorghum plants (Sorghum bicolor cv. P898012) subjected to water deficit at pre-flowering. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions with 4 treatments: field capacity (FC), water deficit (WD), field capacity + KNO3 (FC + KNO3), and water deficit + KNO3 (WD + KNO3). Two foliar applications of 3% (m/v) KNO3 were made, the first on day zero of stress and the second on the fifth day. All analyses were performed after 12 days of stress (end of stress). Foliar application of KNO3 to irrigated plants led to increases in relative chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration, and carboxylation efficiency. It also induced increases in leaf concentrations of P, Mg, S, Cu, and Fe, in addition to height growth. Under water deficit conditions, plants treated with KNO3 presented higher relative chlorophyll content, leaf area, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration, carboxylation efficiency, and higher levels of P, K, Mg, S, Cu, and Fe than those not treated with KNO3. The morphometry of the root system was not altered by the treatments. In addition, plants treated with KNO3 under water deficit conditions showed higher growth and a grain yield 32.2% higher than those that did not receive KNO3. These results demonstrated that KNO3 applied to the leaves induced water deficit tolerance in sorghum plants subjected to severe water stress at pre-flowering.

ABSTRACT The objective of this research study is to determine the factors that influence the purchase of masks in Paraguayan consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was based on a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive design approach. The population consisted of 521,559 inhabitants of Asunción with a sample size of 384 people and a response rate of 87%, that is, 333 participants successfully completed the survey. The only inclusion criterion was to live in the city of Asunción. The data collection instrument was composed of 11 closed questions, sent via WhatsApp for convenience in July 2020. The most relevant results were: 92.2% considered that the mask prevents COVID-19, 83.2% sought quality in the product and 59.9% they were willing to pay between 2,000 to 4,000 Gs. for each. It is concluded that there is awareness in the use of the mask in Paraguayan consumers, in addition to being a need for protection and mandatory use during the pandemic. At the same time, the most relevant factors in the decision to purchase the product translate into quality and as a means of protection against COVID-19.

RESUMEN El objetivo de este estudio de investigación es determinar los factores que influyen en la compra del tapaboca en consumidores paraguayos durante la pandemia de la COVID-19. Se basó en un enfoque cuantitativo de diseño no experimental, corte transversal y descriptivo. La población estuvo conformada por 521.559 habitantes de Asunción con un tamaño de muestra de 384 personas y tasa de respuesta del 87%, es decir, 333 participantes realizaron exitosamente la encuesta. El único criterio de inclusión fue de habitar en la ciudad de Asunción. El instrumento de recolección de datos estuvo compuesto por 11 preguntas cerradas, enviado vía WhatsApp por conveniencia en julio 2020. Los resultados más relevantes fueron: 92.2% consideraron que el tapaboca previene el COVID-19, 83.2% buscaron calidad en el producto y 59.9% estuvieron dispuestos a pagar entre 2.000 a 4.000 Gs. por cada uno. Se concluye que existe conciencia en el uso del tapabocas en los consumidores paraguayos, además de ser una necesidad de protección y utilización obligatoria durante la pandemia. Al mismo tiempo, los factores más relevantes en la decisión de la compra del producto se traducen en la calidad y como un medio de protección contra la COVID-19.

Abstract This study evaluated the effects of supplying altrenogest from day 6-12 of pregnancy on the endometrial glandular epithelium, corpora lutea (CL) morphology, and endometrial and CL gene expression. A total of 12 crossbred females (Landrace × Large White) were used. The females were assigned to 4 treatments according to a random design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement, with two categories (sow or gilt) and two treatments (non-treated and treated with altrenogest). On day 6 of pregnancy, animals were allocated to one of the following groups: non-treated (NT, n = 6; 3 sows and 3 gilts), and (T, n = 6; 3 sows and 3 gilts) treated daily with 20 mg of altrenogest, from day 6-12 of pregnancy. All animals were euthanized on day 13 of pregnancy. All CLs were individually weighed, and their volume were determined. The endometrial glandular density (GD), mean glandular area (MGA), and vascular density (VD) were determined by histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyses. Endometrium samples were collected and analyzed by qRT-PCR to evaluate the abundance of transcripts for VEGF and IGF-I. Females in the T group had higher MGA (P < 0.05) compared to the NT group. There was no effect of treatment on GD or VD for both experimental groups. Sows in the T group had augmented expression of IGF-I (P < 0.05). Progestagen had no detrimental effect on CL morphology. In conclusion, altrenogest improves the uterine environment during the peri-implantation period in pigs without compromising corpora lutea development.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: Opioides são fármacos utilizados para o alívio da dor, porém, podem causar aumento da sensibilidade dolorosa, denominada hiperalgesia induzida por opioides, que afeta negativamente o tratamento da dor. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar se o fentanil, opioide amplamente utilizado na prática clínica, produz hiperalgesia que pode ser atenuada pela duloxetina, fluoxetina e pregabalina. MÉTODOS: Trinta ratos Wistar machos, foram divididos em 6 grupos. No grupo 1, os animais receberam 1mL de solução fisiológica (SF) a 0,9% por via intraperitoneal (IP) e por gavagem; no grupo 2, fentanil na dose de 100µg.kg-1 IP e SF a 0,9% por gavagem; nos grupos 3, 4 e 5 os animais receberam fentanil na dose de 100µg.kg-1 IP e, por gavagem, receberam respectivamente duloxetina, 40mg.kg-1, fluoxetina, 40mg.kg-1 e pregabalina, 40mg.kg-1. A avaliação da hiperalgesia e sua atenuação foi feita pela aplicação de filamentos de Von Frey, na 2ª hora e nos dias 1, 3, 5 e 7, após o tratamento. RESULTADOS: Na 2ª hora pós-procedimento não foram observadas diferenças entre G1 e G2, entretanto, G3, G4 e G5 se mostraram com menor hiperalgesia. No 1º e 3º dias foi observado maior efeito hiperalgésico em G2 quando comparado com G1, G3, G4 e G5. No 5º dia foi observado efeito hiperalgésico no G2, e no 7º dia não houve diferenças entre os grupos. CONCLUSÃO: Os resultados sugerem que o fentanil induz hiperalgesia e eficácia da duloxetina, fluoxetina e pregabalina na sua redução.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Opioids are drugs used to relieve pain, but may cause increased pain sensitivity, known as opioid-induced hyperalgesia, which adversely affects pain management. This study aimed to check if fentanyl, an opioid widely used in the clinical practice, produces hyperalgesia that can be attenuated by duloxetine, fluoxetine and pregabalin. METHODS: Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into six groups. The animals in group 1 received 1mL of 0.9% saline solution intraperitoneally (IP) and gavage; group 2 received fentanyl at a dose of 100µg.kg-1 IP and 0.9% saline solution per gavage; groups 3, 4 and 5 received fentanyl at the dose of 100µg.kg-1 IP, and gavage with duloxetine, 40mg.kg-1, fluoxetine, 40mg.kg-1 and pregabalin, 40mg.kg-1, respectively. Under general anesthesia with isoflurane, all animals were submitted to plantar surgical incision. The application of Von Frey filaments assessed hyperalgesia at the second hour, one, three, five and seven days after treatment. RESULTS: Two hours after the procedure, no differences were observed between G1 and G2, although G3, G4, and G5 showed less hyperalgesia. On day one and day three, a greater hyperalgesic effect was observed in G2 when compared to G1, G3, G4 and G5. On day five, there was a hyperalgesic effect on G2, and on day seven, there were no differences among the groups. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that fentanyl induces hyperalgesia and the efficacy of duloxetine, fluoxetine, and pregabalin in reducing it.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar o perfil clínico de pacientes portadores de câncer colorretal com idade inferior a 50 anos atendidos em um hospital público de Brasília ao longo de 5 anos. Métodos: estudo longitudinal e retrospectivo. Foram incluídos 184 pacientes submetidos a procedimento cirúrgico no Hospital Regional da Asa Norte (HRAN), incluindo aqueles que realizaram apenas biópsia, entre janeiro de 2013 e janeiro de 2018. Os pacientes foram divididos em dois grupos: com idade inferior a 50 anos (n=39) e idade igual ou superior a 50 anos (n=145). Os grupos foram comparados em relação às seguintes variáveis: idade, gênero, sintomatologia, tempo entre início dos sintomas e diagnóstico, antecedentes familiares e pessoais, localização do tumor, características anatomopatológicas, conduta cirúrgica estabelecida, estadiamento e mortalidade. Resultados: no grupo dos pacientes com idade inferior a 50 anos houve maior concentração de indivíduos com estadiamento III e IV (p=0,041), foi mais frequente a presença de tumores pouco diferenciados (10,25% contra 3,52%; p=0,153), foram descritas maiores incidências de margens cirúrgicas comprometidas (p=0,368), invasão angiolinfática (p=0,07) e perineural (p=0,007), o que denota doença mais avançada nesse grupo de pacientes. Conclusões: o estudo evidenciou a baixa efetividade dos métodos de rastreamento populacional para câncer colorretal atualmente empregados nesta população, visto a elevada incidência da doença e ao diagnóstico tardio em ambos os grupos.

ABSTRACT Objective : to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with colorectal cancer under the age of 50 treated at a public hospital in Brasilia over 5 years. Methods: we conducted a longitudinal, retrospective study, with 184 patients undergoing surgical procedures at the Asa Norte Regional Hospital (HRAN), including those who underwent only biopsy, between January 2013 and January 2018. We divided the patients into two groups: under the age of 50 (n=39) and age equal to or greater than 50 years (n=145). We compared the groups as to age, sex, symptoms, time between symptom onset and diagnosis, family and personal history, tumor location, histopathological characteristics, applied surgical management, staging and mortality. Results: the group of patients under the age of 50 had more individuals with stage III and IV (p=0.041), more frequent poorly differentiated tumors (10.25% versus 3.52%; p=0.153), and higher incidences of compromised surgical margins (p=0.368), angiolymphatic (p=0.07) and perineural (p=0.007) invasion, which denotes more advanced disease in this group of patients. Conclusions: the study showed the low effectiveness of population screening methods for colorectal cancer currently used in this population, given the high incidence of the disease and late diagnosis in both groups.

RESUMO A região de Viçosa-MG se destaca na produção de hortaliças. Para alcançar sucesso nesta atividade, é necessária a escolha correta de cultivares e aplicação correta da irrigação. Diante disto objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho agronômico de cultivares de rabanete submetidas a diferentes lâminas de irrigação. A cultura do rabanete foi cultivada em ambiente protegido durante três ciclos, com períodos de 38 a 40 dias. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com cinco repetições, tendo nas parcelas cinco lâminas de irrigação (50; 75; 100; 125 e 150% da evapotranspiração da cultura-ETc) e nas subparcelas três cultivares de rabanete (Híbrido nº 25 - Sakata, Crunchy Royale - Sakata e Vip Crimson - Feltrin). O sistema de irrigação foi o gotejamento e a ETc obtida por meio do método GESAI. Os parâmetros avaliados foram: profundidade de raízes, potencial de água da planta, temperatura foliar, massa de folhas, diâmetro e comprimento de raiz, número e massa de raízes comerciais e não-comerciais e eficiência do uso da água. Sendo o solo do presente experimento de alta disponibilidade de retenção de água, superior à 1,8 mm cm-1, recomenda-se irrigar com lâmina de 50% da ETc, desde que, no início do ciclo o solo esteja na capacidade de campo. Considerando produtividade e qualidade, a cultivar Crunchy Royale deve ser recomendada no cultivo de rabanete na região de Viçosa-MG.

ABSTRACT The region of Viçosa in Brazil stands out for vegetable production. For success in this activity, the correct choice of cultivar with the correctly applied irrigation are necessary. As such, the aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of radish cultivars submitted to different irrigation depths. The radish crop was grown in a protected environment over three cycles, for periods of 38 to 40 days. The experimental design was of randomised complete blocks in split plots with five replications, comprising five irrigation depths (50, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of crop evapotranspiration-ETc) in the plots, with three radish cultivars in the subplots. (Hybrid no 25 - Sakata, Crunchy Royale - Sakata and Vip Crimson - Feltrin). A drip irrigation system was used, with the ETc obtained by means of the GESAI method. The following parameters were evaluated: root depth, plant water potential, leaf temperature, leaf weight, root diameter and length, number and weight of commercial and non-commercial roots, and water use efficiency. Since the experimental soil presented high water retention and availability, greater than 1.8 mm cm-1, an irrigation depth of 50% ETc is recommended, provided that the soil is at field capacity at the start of the cycle. When considering productivity and quality, the Crunchy Royale cultivar is recommended when cultivating the radish in Viçosa, Brazil.

ABSTRACT. The present research seeks to elucidate the feasibility of chitosan (CHT) in the induction of water deficit tolerance in different maize hybrids, contrasting tolerance to water restriction, tolerance and sensitivity. The maize plants were subjected to water deficit and foliar application of different chitosan doses (60, 100, 140, and 180 mg L-1) at the pre-flowering growth stage and evaluated during the stress period of fifteen days. To understand the induction behaviour of the tolerance to water restriction, biophysical parameters, such as water potential, relative water content and chlorophyll content, gas exchange, and biochemical assays, were quantified based on the activity of SOD, CAT, APX, and PAL antioxidant enzymes, lipid peroxidation activity and hydrogen peroxide content. Among the treatments, maize plants subjected to chitosan foliar application at a dose of 140 mg L-1 presented similar behavioural responses to plants under favourable irrigation conditions. Such positive responses are related to the high degree of activity of antioxidant enzymes, gas exchange and low levels of lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide. The results support the potential use of CHT to increase tolerance to water stress.
