Objective: We examined the prevalence of risky alcohol and cannabis use among Brazilian varsity college athletes and whether this group had a greater likelihood of risky use than non-athletes. Methods: In 2009, Brazilian college students (n=12,711) were recruited for a national stratified random survey. Their sociodemographic characteristics, mental health, substance use, and participation in varsity sports were assessed. Binary logistic regression models were used to examine the association between varsity athlete status and moderate to high-risk alcohol and cannabis use. Results: Among varsity athletes, 67.6 and 10.7% reported risky alcohol and cannabis use, respectively. Varsity athletes had greater odds of risky alcohol consumption than non-athletes (aOR = 2.02, 95%CI 1.08-3.78). Varsity athletes also had greater odds of risky cannabis use than non-athletes in unadjusted analyses (OR = 2.57, 95%CI 1.05-6.28), although this relationship was attenuated after covariate adjustment. Conclusions: Among college students in Brazil, varsity athletes had a higher prevalence of risky alcohol and cannabis use than non-athletes. The rates were considerably higher than those observed among samples of U.S. college athletes. Future research should examine the use of these substances among varsity college athletes in other middle-income countries since these findings will likely guide prevention and treatment efforts.

Resumo Objetivo: Analisar o processo de inserção profissional de egressos dos cursos de Administração e Administração Pública no Brasil, com idades entre 18 e 36 anos, formados a partir de 2011. Originalidade/valor: Como principal contribuição do estudo, é possível destacar o contingente de profissionais bem qualificados em situação de desemprego, em trabalhos informais e muitas vezes subocupados, dando indícios à ampliação de uma inserção não qualificante no trabalho. Assim, como um problema generalizado, que perpassa diferentes idades, classes, gêneros e cores/raças/etnias, esse agravante no mercado laboral recai, principalmente, sobre os indivíduos com ensino superior, os quais mostram o enfrentamento de uma condição de trabalho aquém de suas competências e sua escolaridade. Design/metodologia/abordagem: Este estudo tem enfoque quantitativo, não probabilístico, não experimental, transversal e descritivo. A coleta teve início em setembro de 2018 e término em novembro de 2018. Após os cortes, a amostra foi de 847 casos divididos por regiões, sendo: 344 do Sudeste, 244 do Sul, 163 do Nordeste, 56 do Centro-Oeste e 40 do Norte. Resultados: Destaca-se nos resultados que 73% dos respondentes não passaram mais de um ano para se inserir profissionalmente, 20% dos egressos encontram-se em cargos com requisitos de escolaridade inferiores à graduação, e 16,6% não estão trabalhando. Além disso, apesar de bem qualificados, os profissionais investigados compartilham de um cenário ocupacional estruturalmente fragilizado, principalmente em relação aos tipos de vínculos laborais praticados, independentemente de suas características sociodemográficas.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To analyze the professional insertion process of Administration and Public Administration course graduates in Brazil, with ages ranging from 18 to 36, who graduated after 2011. Originality/value: As the main contribution of the study, it is possible to highlight the contingent of well-qualified professionals that are unemployed or in informal and often underoccupied jobs, indicating the expansion of non-qualifying job insertion. Thus, as a widespread problem which cuts across different ages, classes, genders, races, and ethnicities, this aggravating factor in the labor market falls mainly on individuals with higher education that are working jobs below their skill and education levels. Design/methodology/approach: This study has a quantitative, non-probabilistic, non-experimental, transversal, and descriptive approach. Data collection began in September 2018 and ended in November 2018. The sample consisted of 847 cases, divided by regions: 344 from Southeast, 244 from South, 163 from Northeast, 56 from Midwest, and 40 from North. Findings: It is worth noting that 73% of the respondents did not spend more than one year to professionally enter into the labor market, 20% of graduates are in positions with less than undergraduate education requirements, and 16.6% are not working. In addition, despite being well qualified, the investigated professionals share a structurally fragile occupational scenario, especially about the types of employment contracts practiced, regardless of their sociodemographic characteristics.

CONTEXTO: O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar a eficácia do milnaciprano em pacientes ambulatoriais com depressão maior grave que não respondem em tempo e em dosagem adequados à terapia com ISRSs. MÉTODOS: Um estudo aberto multicêntrico com a duração de 12 semanas foi elaborado para avaliar a eficácia do milnaciprano após falha em um experimento com ISRS. Remissão completa (HAMD-17 < 8) foi o desfecho principal. Os desfechos secundários foram resposta (HAM > 50%), CGI e avaliação da qualidade de vida (WHOQOL-Bref). RESULTADOS: O escore HAMD-17 médio da amostra foi de 27 (7,2). As taxas de remissão com o milnaciprano foram de 17,5%, e as de resposta, 61,3%. Na linha de base, 70,9% dos pacientes foram classificados como gravemente sintomáticos. Ao final do tratamento, 48,1% dos pacientes foram classificados como normais assintomáticos ou sintomáticos limítrofes e 20,2% eram moderadamente sintomáticos. Além disso, os quatro domínios do WHOQOL-Bref, um instrumento genérico de mensuração de qualidade de vida, apresentou diferenças clínicas e estatísticas: CONCLUSÃO: Nossos resultados sugerem que o milnaciprano é uma possível opção para pacientes que não respondem a ISRSs. Uma vez que não há evidências na literatura de um antidepressivo que seja a melhor opção quando um ISRS falha, o uso do milnaciprano deveria ser considerado em casos de pacientes com depressão severa.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of milnacipran in outpatients experiencing severe MDD non-respondent to adequate time and dosing of SSRI therapy. METHODS: A 12 week multi-centric study open study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of milnacipran after a SRRI trial failure. Complete remission (HAMD-17 < 8) was the principal outcome. Secondary outcomes were response (HAM > 50%), CGI and quality of life measure (WHOQOL-Bref). RESULTS: The mean HAMD-17 score of the sample was 27 (7.2). The remission rates for minalcipran were 17.5% and response 61.3%. At baseline, 70.9% of the patients were markedly or severely ill. At treatment end, 48.1% of the patients were normal asymptomatic or borderline and 20.2% were mildly ill. Also, the four domains of WHOQOL-Bref, a generic instrument of Quality of Life, presented statistical and clinical differences. DISCUSSION: Our findings suggest that milnacipran is a possible option to be used in patients that were non-respondents to SSRIs. Since there is no evidence in literature that one single antidepressant is the best second step when an SSRI fail, milnacipran should be considered in the case of severe depressed patients.

Competitive world market trends have long been forcing structural engineers to develop minimum weight and labour cost solutions. A direct consequence of this design philosophy is a considerable increase in problems related to unwanted floor vibrations. This phenomenon is very frequent in a wide range of structures subjected to dynamical loads. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate an orthotropic solution for composite floors subjected to dynamical actions such as rhythmical activities arising from gymnastics, musical and sports events and ballroom dances. The proposed analysis methodology considers the investigation of the dynamic behaviour of a building floor made with a composite slab system with steel beams and an incorporated steel deck. The results indicated that the investigated composite floor violates the vibration serviceability limit state, but satisfied the human comfort criteria.

The usual structural analysis models for telecommunication and transmission steel tower design tend to assume a simple truss behaviour where all the steel connections are considered hinged. Despite this fact, the most commonly used tower geometries possess structural mechanisms that could compromise the assumed structural behaviour. A possible explanation for the structure stability is related to the connections semi-rigid response instead of the initially assumed pinned behaviour. This paper proposes an alternative structural analysis modelling strategy for guyed steel towers design, considering all the actual structural forces and moments, by using three-dimensional beam and truss finite elements. Comparisons of the above mentioned design models with a third alternative, that models the main structure and the bracing system with 3D beam finite elements, are made for three existing guyed steel telecommunication towers (50m, 70m and 90m high). The comparisons are initially based on the towers static and dynamic structural behaviour later to be followed by a linear buckling analysis to determine the influence of the various modelling strategies on the tower stability behaviour.
