Self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) has become one of the most promising materials in civil construction. This work applies expanded clay as a light aggregate in the production of SCLC, seeking to evaluate the influence of the use of this material on the properties in the fresh state, mainly regarding workability, viscosity, passage capacity and resistance to segregation. In addition, density, compressive strength, thermal and microstructural properties were investigated. The results showed that expanded clay improved the workability of concrete when compared to self-compacting concrete (SCC) with conventional aggregates. As for the mechanical characteristics, resulting from the compressive strength, the SCLC, due to its reduced density, presented values lower than those found for the conventional CAA, produced with denser aggregates. It was observed that the use of lightweight aggregates promotes a reduction in thermal conductivity, a performance that guarantees better thermal insulation. As for the microstructural analysis, it was found that, with the use of expanded clay, there was a decrease in pores in the cement paste matrix and in the thickness of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). It was evident, therefore, that the use of expanded clay maintained the mechanical characteristics and also ensured better thermal insulation than conventional concrete.

Abstract We investigated the band structure of flexural waves propagating in a metaconcrete thin plate, consisting of a concrete matrix reinforced by steel inclusions coated by rubber in square and triangular lattices. We considered the classical Kirchhoff-Love thin plate theory. We also studied the influence of inclusion geometry - circular, square and rotated square with a 45° angle of rotation with respect to the x, y axes. Improved plane wave expansion method was used to solve the wave equation considering flexural wave propagation in the xy plane. Flat bands and locally resonant band gaps were observed for all types of inclusion studied regarding square and triangular lattices. The locally resonant band gaps for square and rotated square inclusions in a triangular lattice were slightly shifted to higher frequencies than that given by circular inclusion. We suggest that the metaconcrete thin plate studied should be feasible for flexural vibration control in low frequencies.

Resumo A produção de concretos auto compactáveis de baixa massa específica tornou-se um grande desafio para a engenharia civil, principalmente quanto à dosagem e manutenção das resistências mecânicas. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar concretos autoadensáveis (CAA) produzidos com agregados leves e reciclados. Fixou-se as dosagens de sílica ativa, pó de pedra, pedrisco, argila expandida e superplastificante, variando-se a porcentagem do resíduo de borracha em 5% e 10%, em substituição ao agregado miúdo. As amostras foram submetidas aos ensaios de espalhamento, viscosidade, habilidade passante, resistências à compressão e à tração por compressão diametral e, massa específica. Verificou-se que os CAA produzidos apresentaram coesão e trabalhabilidade adequados, bem como atendem as condições normativas para uso em peças pré-moldadas e estruturais.
