Resumen Contexto: En el contexto de la pandemia de la gripe española (década de 1920), el Lysol se indicó como una de las medidas de higiene en los manuales de enfermería para la formación de las enfermeras brasileñas, lo que años más tarde llevó a que se discutiese aquella indicación. Objetivo: Discutir el contenido de los manuales de enfermería sobre las citas al Lysol, articulando anuncios publicitarios del producto en un semanário realizado en la prensa social en el que se muestra la cultura del cuidado en aquella época. Metodología: Investigación histórica desde la perspectiva de la microhistoria. Los datos se recopilaron de los manuales de enfermería y de la Hemeroteca Digital de la Biblioteca Nacional, y se limitaron al periodo comprendido entre 1920 y 1929. Para analizar los datos se utilizó el referente del microanálisis. Resultados: El producto se utilizó para el lavado de manos y heridas, que se divulgó con la imagen de los profesionales de la salud. Conclusión: Este estudio puede contribuir a la construcción del conocimiento en diferentes áreas, así como a articular el presente y el pasado.

Resumo Contexto: Durante o período de pandemia pós-influenza espanhola (na década de 1920), o lysol era uma das indicações, como produto de higiene, nos manuais de enfermagem para a formação das enfermeiras brasileiras, o que anos mais tarde gerou discussão sobre a sua indicação. Objetivo: Discutir o conteúdo dos manuais de enfermagem sobre a citação do lysol, articulando as peças publicitárias do produto num seminário veiculado na imprensa social, ao mostrar a cultura dos cuidados à época. Metodologia: Investigação histórica na perspetiva da microhistória. A colheita de dados foi realizada nos manuais de enfermagem e na Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional, com limitação nos anos de 1920 a 1929. Utilizou-se o referencial da microanálise para a análise dos dados. Resultados: A aplicação do produto era usada para lavagem das mãos e feridas, divulgada pela imagem dos profissionais de saúde. Conclusão: Este estudo pode contribuir para a construção do conhecimento em diferentes áreas, articulando o presente e o passado.

Abstract Background: During the post-Spanish Influenza pandemic period (in the 1920s), nursing manuals used in Brazilian nurses’ training recommended Lysol as a hygiene product, a fact that, years later, led to the discussion on its use. Objective: To discuss the content of nursing manuals regarding the recommendation of Lysol in association with the product’s advertisements in a weekly social magazine and characterizing the culture of care at the time. Methodology: Historical research using the microhistory approach. Data were collected from nursing manuals and the Digital Hemeroteca of the National Library, covering the period between 1920 and 1929. The data were analyzed using the microanalysis framework. Results: Lysol was used for washing hands and wounds and advertised using health professionals’ images. Conclusion: This study contributes to building knowledge in different areas by associating the present with the past.

OBJECTIVE: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with high mortality among hospitalized patients and incurs high costs. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection can trigger both inflammatory and thrombotic processes, and these complications can lead to a poorer prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association and temporal trends of D-dimer and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels with the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), hospital mortality, and costs among inpatients with COVID-19. METHODS: Data were extracted from electronic patient records and laboratory databases. Crude and adjusted associations for age, sex, number of comorbidities, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score at admission, and D-dimer or CRP logistic regression models were used to evaluate associations. RESULTS: Between March and June 2020, COVID-19 was documented in 3,254 inpatients. The D-dimer level ≥4,000 ng/mL fibrinogen equivalent unit (FEU) mortality odds ratio (OR) was 4.48 (adjusted OR: 1.97). The CRP level ≥220 mg/dL OR for death was 7.73 (adjusted OR: 3.93). The D-dimer level ≥4,000 ng/mL FEU VTE OR was 3.96 (adjusted OR: 3.26). The CRP level ≥220 mg/dL OR for VTE was 2.71 (adjusted OR: 1.92). All these analyses were statistically significant (p<0.001). Stratified hospital costs demonstrated a dose-response pattern. Adjusted D-dimer and CRP levels were associated with higher mortality and doubled hospital costs. In the first week, elevated D-dimer levels predicted VTE occurrence and systemic inflammatory harm, while CRP was a hospital mortality predictor. CONCLUSION: D-dimer and CRP levels were associated with higher hospital mortality and a higher incidence of VTE. D-dimer was more strongly associated with VTE, although its discriminative ability was poor, while CRP was a stronger predictor of hospital mortality. Their use outside the usual indications should not be modified and should be discouraged.

Abstract This study was performed to evaluate the interplay between dental caries, nutritional status, and genetic polymorphisms in TAS1R1 and TAS1R2 (taste receptor, type 1, member 1 and 2) in preschool children and pre-adolescents. We included 525 subjects (306 preschool children and 219 pre-adolescents). Parents/caregivers answered a self-administered questionnaire about their children’s systemic health, characteristics, oral hygiene habits, and diet. Clinical examination was performed to evaluate dental caries and nutritional status. Saliva samples were collected for DNA extraction. The genotyping of rs17492553 ( TAS1R1 ), rs3935570, and rs4920566 ( TAS1R2 ) polymorphisms was performed using real-time PCR with Taqman Genotyping Master Mix and SNP assay. Both univariate and multivariate Poisson regression analyses with robust variance were used for the data analysis. In preschool children, consumption of sweets between meals increased the prevalence of dental caries by 85% (PR c = 1.85; 95%CI 1.39–2.46; p < 0.001), whereas in pre-adolescents, this prevalence increased by 34% (PR a = 1.34; 95%CI 1.11–1.62; p = 0.002), regardless of genetic polymorphisms . Moreover, individuals carrying at least one allele C in rs17492553 presented 23% more prevalence of dental caries (PR a = 1.23; 95%CI 1.02–1.49 p = 0.030). Nutritional status was not associated with dental caries, neither with genetic polymorphisms . Consumption of sweets between meals increased the prevalence of dental caries. In pre-adolescents, rs17492553 genetic polymorphism in TAS1R1 was associated with dental caries.

Resumo No município de Guarapari, estado do Espírito Santo (ES), a pesca artesanal é praticada ao longo da linha de costa. Desta maneira, o objetivo deste estudo é descrever a atividade pesqueira praticada no município de Guarapari, a partir da percepção de pescadores artesanais. Entrevistas etnográficas foram realizadas com aplicação de questionários semi-estruturados, individualmente, por meio de diálogo com pescadores que atuam na região (n= 80). A obtenção de informações também ocorreu por meio de observações participante e direta, anotadas em diário de campo. Os dados foram organizados em categorias, analisados pelo método da Triangulação e estatística descritiva. Todos os entrevistados são homens com idade entre 27 e 77 anos, apresentam baixa escolaridade e o tempo de atuação na pesca varia entre 3 e 60 anos. Segundo os pescadores, os artefatos linha, rede de espera, arpão e espinhel são os mais utilizados. A atividade pesqueira é desenvolvida ao longo do litoral deste município, principalmente na área próxima às Três Ilhas, Ilhas Rasas e Ilha Escalvada. Na percepção dos entrevistados, a pesca é um dos principais setores da economia local.

Abstract In the municipality of Guarapari, Espírito Santo (ES), southeastern Brazil, artisanal fishing is practiced along the coastline. The objective of this study is to describe the fishing activity practiced in the municipality of Guarapari (ES), southeastern Brazil based on the perception of artisanal fishermen. Ethnographic interviews were individually conducted by applying semistructured questionnaires through dialog with fishermen working in the region (n = 80). Information was also obtained through participant and direct observations recorded in a field diary. Data were organized into categories and analyzed using the triangulation method and descriptive statistics. All interviewees were men aged between 27 and 77 years and had a low level of schooling; fishing experience varied between 3 and 60 years. According to the fishermen, line, gillnet, harpoon and trawl line are the most commonly used. Fishing is developed along the coast of this municipality, especially in the areas near Três Ilhas, Rasas Islands and Escalvada Island, southeastern Brazil. In the perception of the interviewees, fishing is one of the main sectors of the local economy.

Resumo O óleo essencial de Melaleuca alternifolia (Maiden & Betche) (óleo da árvore do chá) foi eficaz em estudos anteriores, no tratamento da infestação por ácaros Demodex em humanos. O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o tempo do efeito acaricida, in vitro, desse fitoterápico sobre Demodex canis. Para o exame parasitológico, amostras foram coletadas da pele de um cão e examinadas por microscopia óptica. Apenas amostras com ácaros íntegros e com evidente movimentação de quelíceras e tarsos foram selecionadas. Vinte e uma amostras foram direcionadas para teste com o óleo, em sete concentrações diferentes: 100%; 50%; 25%; 12,5%; 6,25%; 5,0% e 3,13%. Três amostras foram testadas com o controle positivo, amitraz, e três com o controle negativo, xampu neutro. O intervalo entre o momento em que a solução foi adicionada e o instante em que cessou o movimento do último ácaro definiu o tempo de sobrevivência na amostra. Os tempos nas diferentes concentrações e nos controles foram comparados. Quanto mais alta a concentração do óleo, mais rapidamente ocorreu seu efeito letal. Os tempos de sobrevivência nos controles foram maiores que nas diferentes concentrações do óleo de melaleuca.

Abstract The essential oil of the Melaleuca alternifolia (Maiden & Betche) (tea tree oil) has been effective in previous studies, in the treatment of infestation by Demodex mites in humans. The present study aimed at evaluating the in vitro acaricidal effect of this herbal medicine on Demodex canis. For the parasitological examination, samples were collected from a dog’s skin and examined using optical microscopy. Only samples with intact mites and with evident movement of chelicerae and tarsi were selected. Twenty-one samples were tested with the oil, in seven different concentrations: 100%; 50%; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 5.0% and 3.13%. Three samples were tested with the positive control amitraz, and three with the negative control neutral shampoo. The interval between the time the solution was added and the moment the movement of the last mite ceased defined the survival time in the sample. By comparing the times at different concentrations and controls, the results showed that the higher the concentration of the oil, the more quickly its lethal effect occurred, and that the survival times in the controls were longer than in the different concentrations of melaleuca oil.

Resumo: Introdução: A depressão é um distúrbio heterogêneo, com etiologia, evolução e resposta terapêutica variadas, com relatos de aumento crescente na incidência entre os jovens. Dois objetivos nortearam este estudo: estimar a prevalência de sintomas depressivos entre acadêmicos de Medicina de uma universidade com métodos ativos de aprendizagem e investigar possíveis associações com variáveis sociodemográficas. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal descritivo. Aplicaram-se um questionário eletrônico com variáveis sociodemográficas e o Inventário de Depressão de Beck (BDI). Foram realizadas análise univariada e regressão logística multivariada. Resultados: Avaliamos 173 discentes, com discreta predominância de rapazes (n = 93, 53,7%) e idade mediana de 24 (22-26) anos. Verificaram-se sintomas depressivos em 46,2% (n = 80), dos quais 33,5% (n = 58) leves, 9,2% (n = 16) moderados e 3,4% (n = 6) graves. Sexo feminino (p = 0,032) e insatisfação com a Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas - ABP (p < 0,001) se associaram de forma independente aos sintomas depressivos em regressão logística multivariada, com aumento na chance de sintomas depressivos de 2 e 3,5 vezes, respectivamente. Os fatores morar com os pais, ter outros diagnósticos psiquiátricos e praticar regularmente atividade física se associaram aos sintomas depressivos apenas em análise univariada. Conclusão: Os acadêmicos de Medicina apresentaram significativa prevalência de sintomas depressivos. A associação dos sintomas depressivos com insatisfação com o método ABP pode fomentar reflexões sobre a conduta pedagógica e as deficiências na aplicação da metodologia ABP na referida universidade. Ressaltamos a importância da implementação da atividade física no projeto pedagógico e curricular do curso de Medicina como estratégia para a promoção de saúde mental e física nos discentes.

Abstract: Introduction: Depression is a heterogenous disorder of diverse etiology, progression and therapeutic response. Increasing incidence of depression in young adulthood has been reported. The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the prevalence of depressive symptoms among medical students at a university which adopts an active learning method and to investigate possible associations to sociodemographic variables. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study. An electronic questionnaire was applied to evaluate sociodemographic variables and depressive symptoms using the Beck Depression Inventory. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: A slight male predominance (n=93, 53.7%) was found among 173 students, along with an average median age of 24 [22-26]. Depressive symptoms were identified in 46.2% of the students (n=80): 33.5% (n=58) with mild symptoms, 9.2% (n=16) moderate, and 3.4% (n=6) severe. Female gender (p=0.032) and dissatisfaction with the active learning method (p<0.001) were independently associated with depressive symptoms in a multivariate logistic regression analysis with the chance of suffering from depressive symptoms increasing 2 and 3.5 fold, respectively. Living with one’s parents, additional psychiatric diagnosis, and lack of regular physical exercise were associated with depressive symptoms only in univariate analysis. Conclusion: The medical students presented a high prevalence rate of depressive symptons. Association between dissatisfaction with the active learning method and depressive symptoms may offer some insight regarding the pedagogical practices and deficiencies in the application of this method at the university in question. It is important to implement strategies that incorporate physical exercise into the pedagogical and curricular project to promote the mental and physical health of the students.

Abstract Introduction regular fish consumption has been associated with health benefits and prevention of risk factors of chronic diseases; however, consumption is heterogeneous worldwide. Consumption is higher among populations that have fish as a traditional food or among people who tend to adopt a more active and healthy lifestyle. Objectives to evaluate the level of physical activity and perception of life quality among groups with higher and lower frequency of fish consumption. Material and methods quantitative and cross-sectional study carried out via the Internet using the WHOQOL- bref tools to assess perception of life quality. The IPAQ short version normal week was used to evaluate the level of physical activity and proper tool to assess fish consumption. The frequency of fish consumption stratified into two groups (higher and lower frequency) was used as predictor variable. As outcome variable, it was considered the perception of life quality and level of physical activity among groups. Results the group of participants with the highest fish consumption presented better perception of life quality and are more physically active. Discussion and conclusion the results reinforces that regular fish consumption may be related to healthier lifestyle that, consequently, lead to a better perception of life quality.

It was our objective to analyse the effects of resistance exercise (climbing steps), which was started in the acute phase, on the histomorphometry and the expression of aquaporin 1 (AQP1) in the soleus muscle after sciatic nerve injury in Wistar rats. Twenty-four adult rats were randomly divided into the following four groups, containing six animals each: control (G1); exercise (G2); injury (G3); and exercise with injury (G4). Three days after the compression of the sciatic nerve, the animals in G2 and G4 were submitted to resistance exercise for 21 non-consecutives days. The exercise was conducted in two series of 10 consecutive ascents of the ladder, with an additional weight of 100g and with an interval of 60 seconds between sets for rest. After this period, the animals were sacrificed, and the soleus muscle was processed. The number of blood capillaries in G3 was 65.7% and 76.86% higher when compared with the G2 and G4, respectively. The morphological analysis revealed muscle damage in G3, hypertrophy in G2 and significant improvement in the muscle in G4. The AQP1 was immunolocalized in the endothelium of blood capillaries present in the muscle fibres, with different expressions in the groups. Resistance exercise initiated in the acute phase was an effective therapeutic modality in the recovery of morphological aspects in the soleus muscle after denervation.

Abstract Besides the effects on the health of individuals, cigarette smoking can also interfere with the appearance of their teeth. Objective: To evaluate the effect of cigarette smoking-toothbrushing-cycling (CSTC) with whitening toothpastes on the roughness and optical behavior of bovine enamel for eight weeks. Material and Methods: Thirty bovine dentin/enamel discs, 8.0 mm in diameter and 2.0 mm thick, were randomly divided into three groups according to the toothpastes: whitening (Colgate Luminous White - CW and Oral B 3D White - OW), and a non-whitening (Colgate - C). The roughness, color (CIE L*a*b* system), translucency and gloss were measured before and after the specimens were submitted to CSTC. The topography of the specimens was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. During the first week, the specimens were daily subjected to the consumption of 20 cigarettes and brushed (40 strokes/100 g) with the toothpastes' slurries. Thereafter, the CSTC was weekly applied in an accumulated model (140 cigarettes/280 strokes) for seven weeks. The data were submitted to two-way ANOVA, Tukey's HSD test, and paired-t test (α=0.05). Results: The three toothpastes produced significant changes in roughness, color, translucency and gloss (p<0.05). After eight weeks, the roughness and the gloss produced by the three toothpastes were similar (p>0.05), while OW produced the lowest color change and the translucency of C was lower than that of CW (p<0.05). The three toothpastes produced a significant decrease in L* values and a significant increase in a* values after eight weeks (p<0.05). No significant difference in the b* coordinate was found for OW (p=0.13) There were topographic changes in the enamel surfaces. Conclusions: The whitening toothpastes increased the roughness, changed the topography and were not able to maintain the optical stability of enamel exposed over eight weeks.

Resumo O presente artigo é um estudo exploratório sobre o campo empírico da educação. A construção do objeto emergiu com o intuito de pôr em jogo coisas teóricas e operar com os conceitos de Pierre Bourdieu. O objeto da investigação são as universidades na composição das hierarquias acadêmico-científicas, o que se corporifica também no volume e na estrutura de capitais dos seus pesquisadores com bolsa de Produtividade em Pesquisa 1A (PQ-1A) e Produtividade Sênior (PQ-Sr) do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq). O desenvolvimento ocorreu a partir de leituras de textos de referência e debate coletivo sobre a obra de Bourdieu intitulada Os usos sociais da ciência: por uma sociologia clínica do campo científico , principal referência utilizada neste artigo. Os dados empíricos foram produzidos a partir de informações constantes na Plataforma Lattes (CNPq) e suscitaram hipóteses sobre os processos de capitalização de forças internas e externas ao campo universitário para caracterizar as estratégias e estruturas de capitais que garantem (ou garantiram) posições de destaque nesse campo. Os níveis mais altos estão sendo considerados os topos hierárquicos aos quais os níveis anteriores almejam alcançar, e esta análise intentou mapear a configuração das hierarquias institucionais no campo da educação. Longe de pretender uma análise conclusiva, este produto é uma primeira etapa na construção da pesquisa, em razão do volume de informações ainda passível de ser explorado e da clareza de que a complexidade dos fenômenos sociais inviabiliza qualquer pretensão de verdade no campo científico.

Abstract This article is an exploratory study on the empirical field of education. The construction of the research object aimed to put theoretical objects into play and operate with the concepts of Pierre Bourdieu. The research object is the universities in the composition of the academic-scientific hierarchies, which is also embodied in the volume and structure of capital of their researchers with Research Productivity 1A (PQ-1A) and Senior Productivity (PQ-Sr) fellowships of Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq − National Council for Scientific and Technological Development). Its development drew on readings of reference texts and collective debates on the work of Bourdieu entitled Os usos sociais da ciência: por uma sociologia clínica do campo científico (The social usages of science: a clinical sociology of the scientific field), the main reference used in this article. The empirical data were produced from information on Lattes Platform (CNPq) and gave rise to hypotheses about the capitalization of forces internal and external to the higher education field to characterize capital strategies and structures which guarantee (or guaranteed) prominent positions in this field. The highest levels are considered the hierarchical tops which the levels below aim to achieve, and this analysis intended to map the configuration of institutional hierarchies in the field of education. Far from seeking a conclusive analysis, this product is the first step in the construction of the research, because of the volume of information that can still be explored and of the awareness that the complexity of social phenomena makes any claim to truth in the scientific field unfeasible.

Abstract Fish consumption is low in Brazil and several factors justify this fact, among them the lack of practicality in preparation. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relation between the price and the nutritional characteristics of the processed fish products. Correlations between price and nutritional value of 18 different processed fish products were established, comparing nutritional parameters between in natura and processed fish. The results showed that protein features moderate positive correlation to price. The processed fish products analyzed showed lower protein content and higher contents of energy, lipids and sodium compared to in natura fish.

RESUMO A função respiratória é um dos processos do organismo mais afetados pela gravidez, podendo ser avaliada pela cirtometria e manovacuometria. Verificaram-se as alterações na expansibilidade torácica e nas pressões respiratórias geradas ao longo do período gestacional de mulheres sadias. Trata-se de uma pesquisa prospectiva, descritiva e analítica. Participaram deste estudo 93 gestantes acompanhadas pelas unidades de saúde de Ponta Grossa (PR). As gestantes foram divididas em três grupos: G1 (primeiro trimestre), G2 (segundo trimestre) e G3 (terceiro trimestre). Foram realizadas as seguintes avaliações em cada gestante: cirtometria em três pontos e manovacuometria. A mobilidade torácica apresentou diminuição com a progressão da gestação (coeficiente respiratório: linha axilar - G1>G2>G3, linha média - G1>G2>G3, apêndice xifoide - G1>G2>G3; inspiração-repouso: linha axilar - G1>G2>G3, linha média - G1>G2>G3, apêndice xifoide - G1>G2>G3; repouso-expiração: linha axilar - G1>G2>G3, linha média - G1>G2>G3, apêndice xifoide - G1>G2>G3), em todos os casos p<0,01. As pressões inspiratória e expiratória máximas diminuíram do G1 para o G2 (p<0,01 nos dois casos) e para o G3 (p<0,01 nos dois casos). Concluiu-se que a força muscular respiratória e a mobilidade torácica reduzem com a progressão da gestação.

ABSTRACT The respiratory function is one of the organic processes most affected by pregnancy, and it can be evaluated by cirtometry and manovacuometry. The changes in thoracic expansibility and respiratory pressures during pregnancy of healthy women were verified. This is a prospective, descriptive and analytic study. Ninety three pregnant women who attended health unities from Ponta Grossa (Brazil) have participated. They were divided in three groups, according to the gestational period: G1 (first trimester), G2 (second trimester) and G3 (third trimester). The following evaluations were performed with each woman: cirtometry in three points and manovacuometry. The thoracic mobility presented reduction while the pregnancy progressed (respiratory coefficient: armpit line - G1>G2>G3, middle line - G1>G2>G3, xiphoid appendix - G1>G2>G3; inspiration-rest: armpit line - G1>G2>G3, middle line - G1>G2>G3, xiphoid appendix - G1>G2>G3; rest-expiration: armpit line - G1>G2>G3, middle line - G1>G2>G3, xiphoid appendix - G1>G2>G3), in all the cases p<0.01. The maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures decreased from G1 to G2 (p<0.01 in both cases) and to G3 (p<0.01 in both cases). We concluded that the respiratory muscular strength and the thoracic mobility present reduction with pregnancy progression.

RESUMEN Uno de los procesos más afectados del organismo por el embarazo es la función respiratoria, que se puede evaluar mediante la cirtometría y la manovacuometría. Se investigaron las alteraciones en la expansión torácica y en las presiones respiratorias durante el periodo de embarazo en mujeres sanas. Se trata de una investigación prospectiva, descriptiva y analítica. Participaron del estudio 93 embarazadas bajo supervisión de las unidades de salud en la ciudad brasileña de Ponta Grossa (PR). Se distribuyeron a las embarazadas en tres grupos: E1 (primer trimestre del embarazo), E2 (segundo trimestre del embarazo) y E3 (tercer trimestre del embarazo). Se realizaron las siguientes evaluaciones en cada una: cirtometría en tres puntos y manovacuometría. La movilidad torácica disminuyó con la progresión del embarazo (coeficiente respiratorio: línea axilar - E1>E2>E3, línea media - E1>E2>E3, apéndice xifoides - E1>E2>E3; inspiración-reposo: línea axilar - E1>E2>E3, línea media - E1>E2>E3, apéndice xifoides - E1>E2>E3; reposo-espiración: línea axilar - E1>E2>E3, línea media - E1>E2>E3, apéndice xifoides - E1>E2>E3), en todos los casos p<0,01. Las presiones inspiratoria y espiratoria máximas disminuyeron del E1 para el E2 (p<0,01 para los dos casos) y para el E3 (p<0,01 para los dos casos). Se concluye que la fuerza muscular respiratoria y la movilidad torácica reducen con la progresión del embarazo.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between the products' market price and attributes related to fish purchase and consumption within a university community in Brazil. A structured questionnaire consisting of a five-point Likert scale was used. It was previously tested and made available to the university community via the Internet. The sample comprised 1966 voluntaries including university students and faculty and staff members. A descriptive analysis of data was performed using Spearman's correlation analysis. The results showed that the majority of the respondents (56%) consume fish at home; some consume fish at restaurants (39%), and 5% at family or friends' houses, reinforcing the idea that variables such as culture and reference groups are fundamental determinants of purchase and consumption behavior. It was identified a significant (p < 0.001) and very strong correlation between the attributes price and nutritional value (r = 0.92); price and availability at the usual places of purchase (r = 0.92); price and packaging (r = 0.92); price and brand name (r = 0.91); and price and of the Federal Inspection stamp (r = 0.91) and a low positive correlation (p < 0.001) between the price variable and the initiative for fish traceability (r = 0.16). This study demonstrated that the price of fish is associated with the quality of the product and the attributes related to it such as packaging, nutritional value, and availability of the product in the market.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi utilizar-se da técnica de Análise Fatorial Exploratória (AFE) para a adequação de instrumento de avaliação do consumo de pescado e as características envolvidas nesse processo. A coleta de dados ocorreu durante campanha de incentivo ao consumo de pescado no Brasil e contou com a participação de membros de uma comunidade universitária. Foi construído e utilizado um instrumento de avaliação composto por questões de múltipla escolha e em escala Likert de cinco pontos para avaliar a importância de determinados atributos no processo de aquisição e consumo de pescado. A amostra contou com a participação de 224 pessoas, sendo a sua maioria (65,6%) composta por mulheres. Quanto à frequência de consumo de pescado, 37,67% dos voluntários entrevistados responderam que consomem o produto de duas a três vezes ao mês e 29,6%, uma vez na semana. A AFE foi utilizada para agrupamento das variáveis, utilizou-se a extração pelos componentes principais e a rotação pelo método Quartimax. Os resultados demonstram agrupamento em dois constructos principais, qualidade e consumo, que apresentaram valores de 0,75 e 0,69, respectivamente, para o Coeficiente Alfa de Cronbach, indicando boa consistência interna.

The objective of this research was to use the technique of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) for the adequacy of a tool for the assessment of fish consumption and the characteristics involved in this process. Data were collected during a campaign to encourage fish consumption in Brazil with the voluntarily participation of members of a university community. An assessment instrument consisting of multiple-choice questions and a five-point Likert scale was designed and used to measure the importance of certain attributes that influence the choice and consumption of fish. This study sample was composed of of 224 individuals, the majority were women (65.6%). With regard to the frequency of fish consumption, 37.67% of the volunteers interviewed said they consume the product two or three times a month, and 29.6% once a week. The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used to group the variables; the extraction was made using the principal components and the rotation using the Quartimax method. The results show clusters in two main constructs, quality and consumption with Cronbach Alpha coefficients of 0.75 and 0.69, respectively, indicating good internal consistency.

OBJETIVO: analisar espacialmente a distribuição da cárie dentária e do estado nutricional (EN) de pré-escolares, de 5 anos de idade do município de Araraquara, SP. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de estudo transversal com delineamento amostral probabilístico estratificado. Realizou-se exame clínico bucal para investigação do Índice ceod. Indicadores de peso para altura (P/A), altura para idade (A/I), peso para idade (P/I) e Índice de Massa Corpórea (IMC) foram calculados para classificação do EN. Realizou-se análise estatística descritiva e confeccionou-se mapa temático. Ao final do estudo 491 crianças possuíam codificação completa de endereço. A captura dos pontos de referencial geográfico foi realizada com o auxílio de aparelho de GPS. Elaborou-se semivariograma omini-direcional. RESULTADOS: Observa-se que ambas variáveis apresentaram efeito pepita puro, ou seja, os valores da semi-variância oscila em torno da variância dos dados. Isso implica que as variáveis não são regionalizadas, sendo assim, seus valores não possuem dependência espacial direta. CONCLUSÃO: Cárie dentaria e estado nutricional são condições que não apresentam dependência espacial. Eventualmente a combinação destes indicadores com outros pode produzir efeitos de dependência espacial.

OBJECTIVE: This cross-sectional study sought to conduct a spatially analysis of the distribution of dental caries and the nutritional status (NS) of 5-year-old preschool children of public schools in the city of Araraquara, São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS: The sample was selected in a stratified probabilistic manner. A dental examination was conducted to investigate the dmft index. The anthropometric indicators of the weight/height (W/H), height/age (H/A), weight/age (W/A) and body mass index (BMI) were calculated to estimate the NS. A descriptive statistical analysis was conducted and a thematic map was created. At the end of the study 491 children had full address codification. A GPS device was used to ascertain the geographic reference points. A pluri-directional semi-variogram was elaborated. RESULTS: It was revealed that both variables presented a pure nugget effect showing the absence of a spatial correlation, in other words the dmft and nutritional status are not regionalized variables, and their values do not reveal direct spatial dependence. CONCLUSIONS: Dental caries and nutritional status are health conditions that do not reveal spatial dependence. Ultimately, the combination of these indicators with others can produce spatial dependence effects.
