ABSTRACT Global consumption of oilseeds has been growing progressively in the last five growing seasons, in which soybean represents 60% of this sector. Thus, in order to maintain a high production in the region of Rio Verde, State of Goiás, against the phytopathological problems, this study aimed to define the best spectral range for the detection of H. glycines and P. brachyurus by linear regressions in soybean at R3 stage, as well as the elaboration of mathematical models through multiple linear regressions. For this, soil and root were sampled in the experimental area, as well as a flight was performed with the Sentera sensor. Data were used for the elaboration of regressions and for the validation of 2 mathematical models. Significant values were observed in simple linear regression only for cysts, in the visible range, with a good R² value for the Green, Red and 568 nm bands, to nonviable cysts. When working with the stepwise statistics, better results are found for H. glycines, which now has an R²(aj) of 0.7430 and P. brachyurus is then detected. From the mathematical model obtained with the multiple linear regression for non-viable cysts with an R²(aj) of 0.7430, it is possible to detect the spatial distribution of nematodes across the soybean field, in order to perform a localized management, optimizing the applications. Good results are also possible using the mathematical model obtained by simple linear regression.

RESUMO: A soja é uma das principais espécies de planta cultivadas no mundo. Todavia, perdas de produtividade são ocasionadas por vários tipos de estresses, incluindo os nematoides H. glycines e P. brachyurus. Como objetivo, buscou-se determinar a melhor banda espectral para a detecção do H. glycines e P. brachyurus com o uso de modelos de regressões lineares simples e definir um modelo matemático de regressão linear múltiplo para sua detecção, no início do florescimento (R1). Para isto, foram definidos nove pontos de coleta em cinco reboleiras, totalizando 45 pontos. As coletas foram feitas em um padrão específico de distâncias, de forma a ter amostras com tipos variados de populações de nematoides. Foram realizados voos com o Phantom 4 Advanced, Sequoia e Sentera sobre cada uma das reboleiras. O comprimento de onda do vermelho melhor explicou a variabilidade dos dados para H. glycines no solo e na raiz, bem como dos juvenis de segundo estádio no solo. Para P. brachyurus, a RedEdge da Sentera foi a que explicou melhor a variabilidade dos dados para nematoide na raiz e a NIR da Sequoia a que melhor explicou para juvenis no solo. Quando se utilizou um modelo matemático para a detecção do P. brachyurus e H. glycines, percebe-se uma grande melhora no R² e p-valor com relação às regressões lineares simples. No início da floração (R1), a refletância espectral da soja foi associada ao número de H. glycines e P. brachyurus no solo e nas raízes, usando sensores de baixo custo e multiespectrais.

ABSTRACT: Soybean is one of the main crop species grown in the world. However, there is a decline in productivity due to the various types of stress, including the nematodes Heterodera glycines and Pratylenchus brachyurus. The objectives were to determine the best spectral band for detecting H. glycines and P. brachyurus at the beginning of flowering (R1). Soil and root sampling was conducted at nine sampling sites in each of the five nematode-infested regions, totaling 45 sampling points. Flights were made at all regions using Phantom 4 Advanced, Sequoia and 14-band customized Sentera. For H. glycines, the red spectral band best explained the variability on soil and root nematode counts as well as the second stage of juveniles in soil. For P. brachyurus, Sentera RedEdge best explained the variability in root nematode counts and Sequoia NIR best explained soil juveniles. A multiple linear regression model using spectral data for detecting P. brachyurus and H. glycines improved R² compared to simple linear regressions. At flowering growth stage (R1), soybean spectral reflectance was associated with the number of H. glycines and P. brachyurus on soil and roots using low-cost and multispectral sensors.

ABSTRACT Objective Vertebral fracture is the most common osteoporotic fracture, affecting quality of life and increasing mortality. Epidemiological data on incidence of vertebral fracture are scarce in Brazil and throughout Latin America. Our aim was to determine vertebral fracture incidence and risk factors in a female Brazilian population. Subjects and methods Postmenopausal women with low bone mass were studied from the Brazilian placebo group of Arzoxifene Generations Trial (n = 974), followed for up to 5 years. The primary endpoint was new vertebral fractures, detected by X-Ray. Experimental design defined two strata: A. Osteoporosis or previous vertebral fracture with osteopenia; B. Osteopenia without previous fracture. Previous fracture, T-score, ionized calcium, alkaline phosphatase, creatinine and glucose were analyzed at baseline. Crude and adjusted incidence rates of vertebral fractures were estimated and Poisson regression model was used. Results Incidence rate was 7.7 (95% CI of 5.4 to 10.9) per 1,000 person-years (PY), increasing as a function of age. Women with new vertebral fractures had higher prevalence of previous nonvertebral fracture after menopause, were older and had lower lumbar spine (LS) T-score. Fracture risk increased by 46% for each unit reduction in LS T-score. Variables correlated with new vertebral fracture were age (p = 0.034), LS T-score, stratum A (p = 0.001 for both) and previous nonvertebral fracture after menopause (p = 0.019). In the final model, LS T-score was the strongest predictor. Conclusions Incidence rate of vertebral fracture of 7.7 per 1,000 PY. Age and previous fractures were associated with new vertebral fracture, but LS T-score was the most important predictor.

Neste artigo, descrevemos o caso de um paciente com diagnóstico de macroprolactinoma, que apresentava valores discordantes entre IGF-1 (elevado) e GH (hormônio de crescimento) pós-teste de tolerância oral à glicose (normal) realizados para pesquisa de co-secreção de GH pelo tumor. Houve normalização dos níveis de prolactina após uso de bromocriptina, porém, durante o acompanhamento, o paciente persistiu com níveis elevados de IGF-1 sem clínica aparente, sugerindo tratar-se de possível forma subclínica de acromegalia. Após o desenvolvimento de novos métodos laboratoriais, mais sensíveis, para a dosagem de GH, casos de discordância entre esses testes vêm sendo observados, levando alguns autores a sugerir que o nadir de GH pós-teste de tolerância à glicose oral (TTGO) para diagnóstico e tratamento da acromegalia pode ser bem menor do que o limite considerado atualmente (1,2). Assim, se isto for confirmado, casos subclínicos ou oligossintomáticos de acromegalia serão diagnosticados mais precocemente.

We describe a patient with macroprolactinoma and discrepant insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) concentration (elevated) and growth hormone (GH) values during a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (normal), that were measured to evaluate the co-secretion of GH by tumor. With the bromocriptin use, the patient achieved normalization of prolactin, but persisted with high levels of IGF1, suggesting to be subclinical acromegaly. After the development of new more sensitive GH assays, cases of discrepant GH and IGF-1 results have been observed and taken to some authors to suggest that GH nadir concentration during 75 g OGTT used to acromegaly diagnosis and treatment could be lower than values considered currently normal. Thus, if this is confirmed, subclinical and oligosymptomatic acromegaly cases could have earlier diagnoses.

Hipoparatireoidismo com manifestações neurológicas diagnosticado muitos anos após a cirurgia de tireóide é considerado uma raridade. Descrevemos neste trabalho 3 casos de hipoparatireoidismo associado a calcificações estrio-pálido-denteadas diagnosticados de 20 a mais de 40 anos após tireoidectomia parcial. Duas pacientes foram admitidas com quadros convulsivos em Serviços de Emergência, provavelmente secundário à hipocalcemia, sem diagnóstico de hipoparatireoidismo, o qual foi suspeitado a partir dos exames bioquímicos e da presença de cicatriz cirúrgica no pescoço. A tomografia computadorizada de crânio demonstrou extensas calcificações cerebrais em ambos os casos. A terceira paciente não apresentava quadro neurológico relacionado à hipocalcemia ou às calcificações de gânglios da base e cerebelo demonstradas pela tomografia. Todas foram tratadas com cálcio e vitamina D, com importante melhora clínica nos dois casos sintomáticos. Trata-se, somando-se uma publicação anterior, de 4 casos semelhantes provenientes da mesma região, que era considerada carente em iodo alimentar (Triângulo Mineiro e Goiás, Brasil), onde as tireoidectomias eram muito comuns e provavelmente sem um seguimento clínico adequado. Suspeitamos que outros casos similares, não detectados, possam existir atualmente.

The diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism with neurological findings occurring years after thyroid surgery is considered to be rare. The authors describe 3 cases of hypoparathyroidism associated to brain calcifications diagnosed many years after partial thyroidectomy. Two patients were admitted to Emergency Services presenting with seizures, without a previous diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism. The diagnosis was suspected adding the biochemical analysis to the scar on the neck. The CT, which was performed more than 20 years after surgery, showed large cerebral calcifications in both cases. The third patient did not have neurological symptoms, but presented basal and cerebelar calcifications that were demonstrated in the CT. All patients were treated with calcium and vitamin D with great improvement of clinical status. Adding to a case published previously, we count 4 cases from the same region. Thyroidectomies were very common in this region poor in dietary iodide. Since the clinical follow up was inadequate, we suspect that undetected cases similar to these may exist in the present moment.
