Abstract During studies on fish parasites, two new species of Anacanthorus were found parasitizing serrasalmid fishes, Anacanthorus simpliciphallus sp. n. from the hybrid Piaractus mesopotamicus x Piaractus brachypomus and Anacanthorus brandtii sp. n. from Serrasalmus brandtii. Anacanthorus simpliciphallus sp. n. resembles Anacanthorus reginae in the morphology of the male copulatory organ (MCO) and accessory piece but differs from A. reginae in terms of the smaller size of the accessory piece, which corresponds approximately half the size of the MCO and by the presence of a conspicuous metraterm, with a membranous terminal region. Anacanthorus brandtii sp. n. differs from Anacanthorus scapanus by the expansion of the accessory piece, from Anacanthorus jegui by the ratio MCO (male copulatory organ) /AP (accessory piece) and by the expansion of hook shank, from Anacanthorus sciponophallus and A. reginae by the ratio MCO/AP. Anacanthorus brandtii sp. n. can be distinguished from A. reginae and A. simpliciphallus sp.n. by the size of hooks which is similar in A. reginae and A. simpliciphallus sp. n. and dissimilar in A. brandtii sp. n. The two new species also differ from each other by the expansion of shank.

Resumo Durante estudos em parasitos de peixes, duas novas espécies de Anacanthorus foram encontradas parasitando peixes serrasalmideos, Anacanthorus simpliciphallus sp. n. do híbrido Piaractus mesopotamicus x Piaractus brachypomus e Anacanthorus brandtii sp. n. de Serrasalmus brandtii. Anacanthorus simpliciphallus sp. n. assemelha-se a Anacanthorus reginae na morfologia do órgão copulatório masculino (OCM) e peça acessória (PA), mas difere de A. reginae pelo tamanho menor da peça acessória, que corresponde a aproximadamente metade do tamanho do OCM e pela presença de um metraterma conspícuo, com uma região terminal membranosa. Anacanthorus brandtii sp. n. difere de Anacanthorus scapanus pela expansão da peça acessória, de Anacanthorus jegui pela proporção OCM / PA e pela expansão da haste do gancho, e de Anacanthorus sciponophallus e A. reginae pela proporção OCM / PA. Anacanthorus brandtii sp. n. pode ser distinguido de A. reginae e A. simpliciphallus sp. n. pelo tamanho dos ganchos que é similar em A. reginae e A. simpliciphallus sp. n. e dissimilar em A. brandtii sp. n. As duas espécies novas também diferem entre si pela expansão da haste do gancho.

ABSTRACT Length-weight (LWR) and length-length (LLR) relationships are widely used in management programs and monitoring of fish stocks. We estimated the LWR and LLR of 10 fish species sampled from nine streams of the lower reach of the Iguassu River Basin, Paraná, Brazil. All LWR fits were significant, with b values ranging from 2.37 to 3.62 and an average value of 3.07. Most species showed isometric growth. Significant differences in the LWR between sexes were observed only for Phalloceros harpagos Lucinda, 2008 in the Três Barras stream. All LLR fits were significant, with b values ranging from 0.98 to 1.25 and an average value of 1.15. Significant differences between sexes for the LLR were observed for Rhamdia voulezi Haseman, 1911 in the Arroio Passo Liso stream. First records of the LWR for four species - Ancistrus mullerae Bifi, Pavanelli & Zawadzki, 2009, Bryconamericus pyahu Azpelicueta, Casciotta & Almirón, 2003, Cambeva stawiarski (Miranda Ribeiro, 1968), and Cambeva taroba (Wosiacki & Garavello, 2004) - and the LLR for six species - A. mullerae, B. pyahu, C. davisi, C. stawiarski, C. taroba, and P. harpagos - and a new record of maximum standard length for two species - C. taroba and B. pyahu - are presented.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To determine the relationship of ocular surface disease, the number of glaucoma medications prescribed and its influence on treatment adherence. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, demographic data of patients with glaucoma were collected, and patients completed the ocular surface disease index questionnaire and the glaucoma treatment compliance assessment tool. Ocular surface parameters were assessed by “Keratograph 5M.” Patients were stratified into two groups according to the amount of prescribed ocular hypotensive eye drops (Group 1, one or two classes of medications; Group 2, three or four classes) Results: In total, 27 eyes of 27 patients with glaucoma were included: 17 using 1 or 2 topical medications (Group 1) and 10 eyes using 3 or 4 classes (Group 2). For the Keratograph assessment, patients using ≥3 medications had significantly smaller tear meniscus height (0.27 ± 0.10 vs. 0.43 ± 0.22; p=0.037). The analysis of Ocular Surface Disease Index questionnaire showed higher scores among the groups using more hypotensive eye drops (18.67 ± 13.53 vs. 38.82 ± 19.72; p=0.004). Regarding the glaucoma treatment compliance assessment tool, Group 2 had worse scores in components of forgetfulness (p=0.027) and barriers due to lack of drops (p=0.031). Conclusion: Patients with glaucoma using more hypotensive eye drops had worse tear meniscus height and ocular surface disease index scores than those using fewer topical medications. Patients using three or four drug classes had worse predictors of glaucoma adherence. Despite worse ocular surface disease results, no significant difference in self-reported side effects was found.

RESUMO Objetivo: Determinar a relação entre doença da superfície ocular (OSD), número de medicamentos prescritos para o glaucoma, e como isso influencia na adesão ao tratamento. Métodos: Neste estudo transversal, pacientes com glaucoma foram submetidos à coleta de dados demográficos, preenchimento do questionário Ocular Surface Disease Index e do Glaucoma Treatment Compliance Assessment Tool. Os parâmetros da superfície ocular foram avaliados pelo “Keratograph 5M”. Indivíduos foram estratificados em 2 grupos de acordo com a quantidade de colírios hipotensores oculares prescritos (Grupo 1: uma ou duas classes de medicamentos; Grupo 2: três ou quatro classes). Resultados: No total, 27 olhos de 27 pacientes com glaucoma foram incluídos: 17 usando 1 ou 2 medicamentos tópicos (Grupo 1) e 10 olhos usando 3 ou 4 classes (Grupo 2). Na avaliação do Keratograph, os pacientes em uso de 3 ou mais medicamentos apresentaram altura do menisco lacrimal significativamente menor (0,27 ± 0,10 vs. 0,43 ± 0,22; p=0,037). Análise do questionário OSDI mostrou escores mais altos entre o grupo que usou mais colírios hipotensores (18,67 ± 13,53 vs. 38,82 ± 19,72; p=0,004). Em relação ao Glaucoma Treatment Compliance Assessment Tool, o Grupo 2 apresentou piores escores nos componentes de esquecimento (p=0,027) e barreiras por falta de colírios (p=0,031). Conclusão: O estudo demonstrou que pacientes com glaucoma usando mais colírios hipotensivos apresentaram piores escores de altura do menisco lacrimal e Ocular Surface Disease Index, em comparação com aqueles que usaram menos medicamentos tópicos. Pacientes em uso de 3 ou 4 classes de colírios tiveram piores preditores de adesão ao glaucoma. Apesar dos piores resultados de doença da superfície ocular, não houve diferença significativa nos efeitos colaterais relatados.

The publication Cardiovascular Statistics – Brazil aims to provide an annual compilation of data and research on the epidemiology of CVDs in Brazil.  The report integrates official statistics from the Brazilian Ministry of Health and other governmental entities alongside data from the GBD project, coordinated by the IHME at the University of Washington. Additionally, it incorporates data derived from various sources and scientific studies, including cohorts and registries, that relate to CVDs and their associated risk factors. This publication is intended for a wide range of individuals, including researchers, clinicians, patients, healthcare policymakers, media professionals, the general public, and other interested parties seeking extensive national data about heart disease and stroke.  Volunteer researchers from various Brazilian universities and research institutions carry out the project. The group is led by a five-member steering committee (ALPR, CAP, DCM, GMMO, and LCCB). The Brazilian Society of Cardiology fully supports this initiative, and the project receives collaborative support from the GBD Brazil Network and an International Committee (GAR, PP, and TAG) from both the IHME/University of Washington (GAR) and the World Heart Federation (PP and TAG). 

A publicação Estatística Cardiovascular – Brasil tem por objetivo fornecer uma compilação anual dos dados e das pesquisas sobre a epidemiologia das DCV no Brasil.  Este documento integra as estatísticas oficiais do Ministério da Saúde do Brasil e outras entidades governamentais ao lado de dados do projeto GBD, coordenado pelo IHME da Universidade de Washington. Além disso, incorpora dados derivados de várias fontes e estudos científicos, inclusive coortes e registros, relacionados às DCV e fatores de risco associados. Esta publicação destina-se a um público variado, incluindo pesquisadores, clínicos, pacientes, formuladores de políticas de saúde, profissionais da mídia, o público em geral e todos aqueles que buscam dados nacionais abrangentes sobre DCV e acidente vascular cerebral. Pesquisadores voluntários de várias universidades e instituições de pesquisa brasileiros realizaram este projeto. O grupo é liderado por um comitê diretivo com cinco membros (ALPR, CAP, DCM, GMMO e LCCB). A Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia apoia integralmente esta iniciativa e o projeto recebe colaboração da Rede GBD Brasil1 e do GBD International Committee (GAR, PP e TAG) do IHME/Universidade de Washington (GAR) e da World Heart Federation (PP e TAG).

Abstract Background The perception of family support in chronic disease can be relevant. Objective To assess the perception of family support in adult patients with epilepsy (PWEs) and relate it to quality of life (QoL) and clinical aspects. Methods Data from the Perceived Family Support Inventory (IPFS) of 130 PWEs were related to the clinical variables, QOLIE-31 scores, and the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) with statistical tests, with p < 0.05. Results The mean age was 49.9 ± 17.2 years, and the duration of epilepsy was 20.8 ± 15.4 years. The presence of depression (scores ≥ 15) was associated with lower family support. Being married and non-occurrence of depression were the variables associated with a higher IPFS score (R = 0.2112), in the multiple linear regression. Conclusion The perception of greater family support was associated with demographic aspects, the absence of depression, and better QoL. Family relationships may play an essential role in health adjustment behaviors and QoL in epilepsy.

Resumo Antecedentes A percepção do suporte familiar nas doenças crônicas pode ser relevante. Objetivo Avaliar em pacientes adultos com epilepsia (PCE) a percepção do suporte familiar e relacioná-la com os aspectos clínicos e com a qualidade de vida (QV). Métodos Os dados do Inventário de Percepção de Suporte Familiar (IPSF) de 130 PCE foram relacionados com as variáveis clínicas, os escores do QOLIE-31 e com o Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E), com testes estatísticos, com p < 0.05. Resultados A idade média foi 49.9 ± 17.2 anos e o tempo de epilepsia foi de 20.8 ± 15.4 anos. Escores ≥ 15 no NDDI-E (presença de depressão) associaram-se a menor suporte familiar. Ser casado e não ter depressão são as variáveis associadas a maiores escores no IPSF (R = 0.2112), na regressão linear múltipla. Conclusão A percepção de maior suporte familiar associou-se à aspectos demográficos, a ausência de depressão e a melhor QV. As relações familiares podem ter papel essencial nos comportamentos de ajustamento na saúde e na QV na epilepsia.

Capillary electromigration techniques can be understood as the ones used to separate neutral compounds, solvated ions and ionized species, considering the differentiated migration among them when an electrical field is applied within a capillary column filled with a background electrolyte. Several existing capillary electrophoresis setups provide the possibility of developing reliable quantitative assays of inorganic ions, organic acids, fatty acids, amino acids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, proteins, hormones, vitamins, macromolecules, and more. Therefore, given the chemical complexity of bodily fluid matrices, capillary electrophoresis (CE) and its variations present themselves as an advantageous strategy for enhancing traditional clinical diagnostic methods and for the development of new ones. The recent advances in the study of the human metabolome associated with technological improvements towards medical applications make CE a very useful and versatile technique for clinical laboratory assays. In the present study, we tested the proof of concept that mobil mesoporous silica nanoparticle composition of matter (MCM) No. 48 doped with trivalent europium (nanoMCM48:Eu3+) administered systemically intravenously can act as a suitable vehicle to deliver neural cells to the brain of healthy adult Swiss mice without causing tissue damage. Moreover, we also tested the ability of this nanoparticle to release molecules in vitro, using as drug models caffeine or nicotine in phosphate buffer solution with pH 7.4 adequate to intra and extra-celular medium of the brain. The caffeine and nicotine adsorbed nanoparticles (CAF@MCM48:Eu3+ and NIC@MCM48:Eu3+) were observed in the parenchyma of the cerebral cortex and diffusely dispersed in the cellular cytoplasm. Statistical analysis using multivariate partner recognition methods indicated that there was no sign of cell damage, as it was characterized by chromatin condensation, nuclear condensation, or fragmentation. The characterization of nanoMCM48:Eu3+ as particle size, luminescent properties and release of active components were analyzed. The CAF@MCM48:Eu3+ and NIC@MCM48:Eu3+ nanoparticles were observed in the cerebral cortex parenchyma and diffusely dispersed in the cell cytoplasm, and the release of active components was analyzed. Therefore, the studies showed that mesoporous silica nanoparticles administered systemically via intravenous tissue can act as a suitable vehicle for neural cells in the brain of healthy mice without causing damage.

Abstract Introduction Septoplasty and turbinoplasty are common surgical interventions used to relieve nasal obstructive symptoms. Since it is difficult to measure the degree of nasal blockage, current literature wonders about the frequent performance of these procedures. Objective To evaluate the perceived change in the nasal obstruction and the quality of life (QoL) of patients that underwent a septoplasty along with a turbinoplasty by applying subjective scales, to describe the correlation between those scales, and to study the impact of clinical factors in the postoperative outcomes. Methods Prospective observational study. The Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE), the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI) were assessed. The paired sample Wilcoxon test was used to evaluate the difference between the pre- and postoperative surveys. The correlation coefficient between the subjective scales was calculated. A quantile regression was performed to evaluate the effect of surgery on the results adjusted for clinical and demographic variables. Results A total of 115 patients were interviewed. Postoperative NOSE scores were 45 points lower (95% confidence interval [CI]: - 53.53–- 35.46; p < 0.001) in comparison with the NOSE preoperative scores. Obesity was the only statistically significant factor associated with worse outcomes. Additionally, we found a high correlation between the NOSE and VAS scores and a negative correlation between the GBI and postoperative VAS scores. Conclusion Nasal septoplasty, when paired with a turbinoplasty, decreases nasal obstruction and improves QoL. Obesity was associated with worse results. There was a strong correlation between the NOSE and the VAS results and between the GBI and postoperative VAS results.

Resumen: Por años, los proyectos de construcción se han desarrollado y entregado usando métodos de entrega tradicionales. Sin embargo, esos métodos se han considerado ineficaces para lograr los objetivos reales del proyecto. Un modelo integrado y colaborativo, como la Entrega Integrada de Proyectos (IPD, por su sigla en inglés), un método de entrega basado en contratos relacionales ha atraído un interés creciente tanto en la academia como en la industria, pero aún escaso en Arquitectura, Ingeniería y Construcción (AIC). La mayoría de las investigaciones anteriores enfatizan en la identificación de las barreras y desafíos para implementar la IPD y pocos estudios se enfocan en desarrollar estrategias para superar esas limitaciones. Un número limitado de estudios aborda el cómo aprovechar los beneficios de la IPD en entornos AIC donde la colaboración entre las partes interesadas es deficiente. Esta investigación busca la forma de integrar la IPD en los proyectos de AIC cuando la colaboración aún es limitada. Se desarrolló un “Modelo Evolutivo de la IPD” y los lineamientos para su implementación para aplicaciones en tales ambientes. La Investigación en Ciencias del Diseño fue el enfoque adoptado en este studio para discutir y evaluar el modelo propuesto. El modelo enfatiza un proceso evolutivo y flexible para la aplicación de la IPD en proyectos en AIC. El modelo postula los elementos de IPD deseables y requeridos según los niveles de dificultad de aplicación, enfatizando la disposición de las partes interesadas para utilizarlo y la introducción gradual de la IPD en tales ambientes.

Abstract: Over the years, construction projects have been developed and delivered through traditional delivery methods. However, traditional delivery methods have been considered ineffective to achieve the real project goals. Integrated and collaborative models, such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), a delivery method based on relational contracts, has attracted growing interest in both academia and industry, but still scarce in Architecture Engineering, and Construction (AEC). Most prior research emphasized the identification of barriers and challenges to implementing IPD and few studies focused on developing strategies to overcome those constraints. A limited number of studies have addressed how to reap the benefits of IPD in AEC environments where collaboration between stakeholders is poor. This research investigates how to integrate IPD into AEC projects when collaboration is still limited. An “IPD Evolutionary Model” and guidelines for its implementation were developed for applications in such environments. Design Science Research was the research approach adopted in this study to discuss and evaluate the proposed model. The model emphasizes an evolutionary and flexible process for the IPD application in AEC projects. The model postulates the desirable and required IPD elements according to the levels of application difficulty, emphasising stakeholders' readiness for using it and the gradual introduction of IPD in such environments.

Abstract The use of beneficial microorganisms in agriculture can increase the productivity of agricultural crops; however, there are few studies that consider aromatic plants, such as basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth of 'Sweet Nufar' basil inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and Azospirillum brasilense. The treatments tested were: 1) without microorganisms (control), 2) Rizhophagus intraradices, 3) Funneliformis mosseae, 4) AMF consortium, 5) Azospirillum brasilense, 6) R. intraradices + A. brasilense and 7) without microorganisms and irrigated with 100 % Steiner's nutrient solution. Treatments 1 to 6 were irrigated with the same nutrient solution, but at 50 %. Fifty days after transplanting, growth variables, mineral concentration, colonization percentage and number of AMF spores were recorded. The AMF and A. brasilense bacterium increased the fresh biomass weight and leaf area of 'Nufar' basil, which was associated with the highest concentration of nitrogen and potassium in the plant tissue. This implies that the microorganisms evaluated increase the development and growth of basil grown with reduced levels of mineral nutrition, which represents a sustainable alternative in the agronomic management of this crop under greenhouse conditions.

Resumen El uso de microorganismos benéficos en la agricultura puede incrementar la productividad de los cultivos agrícolas; sin embargo, existen pocos estudios que consideran a las plantas aromáticas, como la albahaca (Ocimum basilicum L.). El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el crecimiento de albahaca ‘Sweet Nufar’ inoculada con hongos micorrícicos arbusculares (HMA) y Azospirillum brasilense. Los tratamientos ensayados fueron: 1) sin microorganismos (testigo), 2) Rizhophagus intraradices, 3) Funneliformis mosseae, 4) consorcio de HMA, 5) Azospirillum brasilense, 6) R. intraradices + A. brasilense y 7) sin microorganismos e irrigados con solución nutritiva de Steiner al 100 %. Los tratamientos del 1 al 6 se irrigaron con la misma solución nutritiva, pero al 50 %. Cincuenta días después del trasplante se midieron variables de crecimiento, concentración mineral, porcentaje de colonización y número de esporas de HMA. Los HMA y la bacteria A. brasilense incrementaron el peso de biomasa fresca y el área foliar de albahaca ‘Nufar’, lo cual se asoció con la mayor concentración de nitrógeno y potasio en el tejido vegetal. Lo anterior implica que los microorganismos evaluados aumentan el desarrollo y el crecimiento de albahaca cultivada con niveles de nutrición mineral reducido, lo que representa una alternativa sustentable en el manejo agronómico de dicho cultivo en condiciones de invernadero.

Abstract Soft tissue sarcomas are malignant tumors derived from the mesoderm, the most frequent age of presentation is between the 5th and 7th decade of life, mostly in males, more frequent location in the extremities, leaving only 1% of presentation in skin hairy, and this is a new concept of treating big sarcomas. We present the case of a 45-year-old male with a diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma on the frontal, parietal, and right occipital surface of approximately 35x28x25 cm, without involvement of adjacent organs, without adjuvant therapy. Performing an oncological resection, exposing the periosteum, performing fenetrations of the external table, covering the Dermal Matrix – Integra®, using a new concept to treat this large defects, after 3 weeks with complete neodermis, we cover it with a Partial Thickness Graft, achieving 100% integration. and proper follow-up. Sarcomas are an uncommon and heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal origin. Standard use of Integra reconstruction requires two stages: Integra forms a neo dermis through ingrowth of host vessels, followed by application of a thin split-thickness skin graft at a later date <30 days, using this new concepts of treating large defects with no flap. Sarcomas are highly aggressive and have very varied symptoms depending on the tumor stage at the time of diagnosis. Timely and improved a new concept of treatment such as an Integra® dermal regenerator, not using a flap, shows adequate integration in the patient and survival.

Abstract Numerical and experimental analysis of visible light communication (VLC) systems based on orthogonal chirp division multiplexing (OCDM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are presented in this paper. Unlike most of the related publications, in this work we numerically compared OCDM and OFDM based VLC systems with the same equalization process, i.e., employing an one tap equalizer (OTE) in both systems. Simulation results in line-of-sight VLC channels show that both systems have the same performance when baseband multicarrier signals are used. The impact of the optical modulation index and the bias current of a previously characterized light-emitting diode were also evaluated. Nevertheless, the experimental demonstrations, in which bandpass signals were used due to the bandpass characteristic of the exploited setup, show that OFDM-based system outperforms the VLC links with OCDM signals, when the OTE equalizer is used in both systems. The performance of the OCDM-based system was improved by using a zero forcing frequency domain equalizer. ABSTRACT The expression ‘you need to know to conserve’ is a well-known cliche among biologists. Documenting the richness of a group of organisms is the first step towards understanding biodiversity and preparing efficient conservation plans. In this context, many efforts have been made to quantify the number of species on Earth and estimate the number of species still unknown to science. A few countries have complete and integrated databases estimating the approximate number of species recorded for their territory, particularly in the Global South. In Brazil, a country of continental dimensions, revealing the richness of the second most diverse clade of invertebrates (=Mollusca) has been a goal of taxonomists. Recently, in an unprecedented, collective, and integrated effort among Brazilian malacologists, it was possible to estimate how many valid species of molluscs are there in Brazil. In this effort, more than 30 mollusc experts joined together to update the Taxonomic Catalogue of the Brazilian Fauna (TCBF), a governmental website that allows a quick and real-time updating of all Metazoan. So far, more than 5,000 updates have been made in TCBF, indicating the presence of 3,552 valid species of molluscs in Brazil, distributed among the main clades as follows: Caudofoveata (10 spp.), Solenogastres (6 spp.), Polyplacophora (35 spp.), Scaphopoda (43 spp.), Cephalopoda (92 spp.), Bivalvia (629 spp.) and Gastropoda (2,737 spp.). The present study, in addition to demonstrating for the first time the richness of Brazilian molluscs, also presents the state of the art of this important phylum of invertebrates highlighting its most representative and neglected groups.

ABSTRACT Vaccination coverage has been dropping in Brazil and other countries. In addition, immune responses after vaccination may not be homogeneous, varying according to sociodemographic and clinical factors. Understanding the determinants of incomplete vaccination and negative antibody test results may contribute to the development of strategies to improve vaccination effectiveness. In this study, we aimed to investigate the frequency of vaccine adherence, factors associated with incomplete vaccination for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and hepatitis A, and factors associated with the seronegative test results for measles, mumps and hepatitis A at 2 years of age. This was a population-based cohort that addressed health conditions and mother/infant nutrition in Cruzeiro do Sul city, Brazil. Vaccination data were obtained from official certificates of immunization. The children underwent blood collection at the two-year-old follow-up visit; the samples were analyzed using commercially available kits to measure seropositivity for measles, mumps, and hepatitis A. We used modified Poisson regression models adjusted for covariates to identify factors associated with incomplete vaccination and negative serology after vaccination. Out of the 825 children included in the study, adherence to the vaccine was 90.6% for MMR, 76.7% for the MMRV (MMR + varicella), and 74.9% for the hepatitis A vaccine. For MMR, after the adjustment for covariates, factors associated with incomplete vaccination included: white-skinned mother; paid maternity leave; raising more than one child; lower number of antenatal consultations; and attending childcare. For hepatitis A, the factors included: white-skinned mother and not having a cohabiting partner. The factors with statistically significant association with a negative antibody test result included: receiving Bolsa Familia allowance for measles and mumps; incomplete vaccination for measles; and vitamin A deficiency for mumps. Strategies to improve the efficiency of vaccine programs are urgently needed. These include improvements in communication about vaccine safety and efficacy, and amplification of access to primary care facilities, prioritizing children exposed to the sociodemographic factors identified in this study. Additionally, sociodemographic factors and vitamin A deficiency may impact the immune responses to vaccines, leading to an increased risk of potentially severe and preventable diseases.
