Abstract: Purpose: to evaluate the effect of dentifrice pH and fluoride concentration ([F]) on fluoride uptake on the biofilm and nails of children from a non-fluoridated area. Methods: two hundred and twenty-eight two- to four-year-old children were randomly allocated into 3 groups according to the type of dentifrice: G1: 1100 μg F/g, pH 4.5 (n = 76); G2: 750 μg F/g, pH 4.5 (n = 74); and G3: 1100 μg F/g, pH 7.0 (n = 78). Nails were collected at 4, 8, and 12 months after starting dentifrice use and biofilm was collected 5 and 60 minutes after toothbrushing. The concentrations of F in nails and biofilm were analyzed by HMDS facilitated diffusion. Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis/Mann-Whitney's test and the comparison between biofilm collection times was done using Wilcoxon test (p £ 0.05). Results: a significant reduction of [F] in biofilm was observed 60 minutes after toothbrushing, regardless of the dentifrice used. However, 5 minutes after toothbrushing, G1 had a significantly higher [F] compared to G2 and G3, and 60 minutes after toothbrushing, [F] was significantly higher for G1 and G2 compared to G3. G1 and G3 had significantly higher [F] in the nails compared to G2. Conclusion: a lower dentifrice concentration is a relevant factor for the reduction of excessive fluoride intake. The use of a low-F acidified dentifrice combines the reduction of fluoride uptake with caries prevention by leading to greater incorporation of F into the biofilm over time.

OBJECTIVES: Force platforms are widely used to evaluate the relationship between posture and dental occlusion. This study evaluated whether force platforms are able to detect eventual postural modifications resulting from dental occlusion. METHOD: A total of 44 healthy volunteers who were given no information on the aim of the study underwent six postural stabilometric exams under different mandibular and visual conditions. Four parameters were considered: sway area, sway velocity, X axis displacement of the center of the foot pressure and Y axis displacement of the center of the foot pressure. RESULTS: An analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed the relative influence of each factor; specifically, the ocular afference significantly influenced the sway area and sway velocity parameters, and the mandibular position had only aweakinfluence on theswayareaparameter. CONCLUSIONS: Vision was shown to influence body posture, and a weak correlation was observed between mandibular position and body posture in healthy subjects. However, the force platform is most likely not able to clearly detect this relationship. Gnathologists must use caution when using force platform analysis to modify a therapeutic plan. The sway area seems to be the most sensitive parameter for evaluating the effect of occlusion on body posture.

Choya 68 is a ceremonial site, with a monticular structure, that is adjacent to ample prepared surfaces and quadrangular and rectangular stone structures. Abundant Aguada Portezuelo ceramic type was recovered from the excavation, and in smaller proportions, painted and black-engraved Aguada types. We present the dates for these structures as provided by three C14 laboratories. We make observations on the association between the samples and related archaeological events, analyzing the probable causes of the interlaboratory differences. We conclude that the most important variable of the C14 dates is the chronological heterogeneity of the charcoal samples that we analyzed

Choya 68 es un sitio ceremonial, con una estructura monticular y en sus adyacencias amplias superficies preparadas y estructuras de paredes de piedra cuadrangulares y rectangulares. En la excavación se recuperó abundante cerámica del tipo Aguada Portezuelo. En menor proporción Aguada pintado y Aguada negro grabado. Se dan a conocer las edades suministradas por tres laboratorios de C14, para estas estructuras, se efectúan observaciones respecto de la asociación entre las muestras y los eventos arqueológicos respectivos, y se analizan las probables causas de las diferencias interlaboratorios observadas. Se concluye estimando que la variable más importante de las dataciones C14 es la heterogeneidad cronológica de las muestras de carbón analizadas
