Abstract Objectives: to identify the scientific evidence on excessively resistant and multidrug resistant tuberculosis in pediatric patients. Methods: this is a scope review of the literature, with a guiding question: “What is the scientific evidence on multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis in pediatric patients?”. The research used the descriptors: “extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis” OR “multidrug-resistant tuberculosis” AND “pediatrics”. The research was carried out in a double-blind manner in the following databases of the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Regional Office for the Western Pacific’s Institutional Repository for Information Sharing, Embase/Elsevier and International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, with a temporal cut-off from 2011 to 2021, sending a final synthesized sample of 18 articles, which evaluated the methodological content through the level of evidence. Results: the results show the lack of research with a high level of evidence related to MDR-TB in children, the lack of adequate dosage of second-line drugs for the pediatric population and the importance of drug sensitivity testing for the cases of treatment Conclusions: it was identified that the obstacles to MDR-TB treatment were concentrated in the lack of detailed protocols, safe drug dosages with a low side effect, and mainly in the social health determinants and disease process involving MDR-TB.

Resumo Objetivos: identificar as evidências científicas sobre tuberculose excessivamente resistente e multidroga resistente em pacientes pediátricos. Métodos: trata-se de uma revisão de escopo da literatura, tendo como questão norteadora: “Quais as evidências científicas sobre tuberculose multidroga-resistente (TB-MDR) e tuberculose extensivamente resistente em pacientes pediátricos?” A pesquisa usou os descritores: “tuberculose extensivamente resistente a medicamentos” OR “tuberculose resistente a múltiplos medicamentos” AND “pediatria”. A pesquisa foi realizada de modo duplo-cego nas bases de dados Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Regional Office for the Western Pacific’s Institutional Repository for Information Sharing, Embase/Elsevier e International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, com um corte temporal de 2011 a 2021, sendo a amostra final sintetizada de 18 artigos, nos quais avaliou-se o conteúdo metodológico por meio do nível de evidência. Resultados: os resultados mostraram a escassez de pesquisas de alto nível de evidência relacionadas à TB-MDR em crianças, ausência de posologia adequada das drogas de segunda linha para o público pediátrico e a importância do teste de sensibilidade a drogas para o tratamento dos casos. Conclusões: identificou-se que os obstáculos do tratamento TB-MDR se concentraram na ausência de protocolos detalhados, de dosagens medicamentosas seguras e com menor efeito colateral, e, principalmente, nos determinantes sociais do processo saúde e doença que envolvem a TB-MDR.

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the pre-sence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA in the ocular surface of individuals clinically suspected of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and determine the accuracy of different approaches of molecular testing on the ocular surface based on the nasopharyngeal positivity status for COVID-19. Methods: A total of 152 individuals with suspected COVID-19 symptoms who simultaneously underwent nasopharyngeal and two different tear film collection techniques for quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) were included. Tears were collected and randomized: one eye had the filter strip for the Schirmer test and the contralateral eye had conjunctival swab/cytology in the inferior fornix. All patients underwent slit lamp biomicroscopy. The accuracy of various ocular surface collection techniques used for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA was determined. Results: Of the 152 patients enrolled in the study, 86 (56.6%) had COVID-19 confirmed by nasopharyngeal PCR. Both tear film collection techniques detected viral particles: the Schirmer test was positive in 16.3% (14/86) and the conjunctival swab/cytology in 17.4% (15/86), with no statistically significant differences. No positive ocular tests were found among those with negative nasopharyngeal PCR tests. The overall agreement of the ocular tests was 92.7%, and in combination, the sensitivity would increase to 23.2%. The mean cycle threshold values in the nasopharyngeal, Schirmer, and conjunctival swab/cytology tests were 18.2 ± 5.3, 35.6 ± 1.4, and 36.4 ± 3.9, respectively. Compared with the nasopharyngeal test, the Schirmer (p=0.001) and conjunctival swab/cytology (p<0.001) tests had significantly different Ct values. Conclusion: The Schirmer (16.3%) and conjunctival swab (17.4%) tests were comparably capable of detecting SARS-CoV-2 RNA in the ocular surface by RT-PCR accurately based on nasopharyngeal status and demonstrated indistinct sensitivity and specificity. Simultaneous specimen sampling and processing from the nasopharyngeal, Schirmer, and conjunctival swab/cytology tests demonstrated significantly lower viral load in both ocular surface approaches than in the nasopharyngeal test. Ocular manifestations detected by slit lamp biomicroscopy were not associated with ocular RT-PCR positivity.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a presença de RNA de coronavírus 2 causador de síndrome respiratória aguda grave (SARS-CoV-2) na superfície ocular de indivíduos clinicamente suspeitos com COVID-19 e determinar a precisão de diferentes abordagens de testes moleculares na superfície ocular com base no status de positividade do RT-qPCR de nasofaringe para COVID-19. Métodos: 152 indivíduos com sintomas suspeitos para a COVID-19 foram submetidos a coleta de reação em cadeia da polimerase de nasofaringe simultaneamente a duas técnicas diferentes de coleta de filme lacrimal para RT-qPCR: aleatoriamente, um olho com a tira filtro do teste de Schirmer e, o olho contralateral, com citologia (swab) conjuntival no fórnice inferior. Todos os indivíduos foram submetidos à biomicroscopia com lâmpada de fenda. Resultados: Dos 152 pacientes, 86 (56,6%) tiveram a COVID-19 confirmada por PCR de nasofaringe. Ambas as técnicas de coleta detectaram partículas virais: o teste de Schirmer foi positivo em 16,3% (14/86) e a citologia conjuntival em 17,4% (15/86), sem diferenças estatisticamente significativas. Não houve testes oculares positivos entre aqueles com reação em cadeia da polimerase de nasofaringe negativo. A concordância geral dos testes oculares foi de 92,7% e, em combinação, a sensibilidade aumentaria para 23,2%. ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the first known case of human Bertiellosis in Paraná (Brazil). Case description: A 6-year-old male residing in the Brazilian state of Paraná was suffering from intermittent nonspecific abdominal pain and abdominal distension, associated with expulsion of live tapeworms in his feces for 7 months. He had a history of interaction with monkeys on an island. His first feces analysis was inconclusive, with an initial hypothesis of an atypical Taenia. However, after additional research, the parasitologist identified pregnant proglottids of Bertiella sp. The patient was initially treated with an unknown dosage of albendazole and nitazoxanide, as it was believed he had been infected with Taenia sp. Since the symptoms persisted, praziquantel 10 mg/kg was prescribed without further proglottids elimination. Comments: Human Bertiellosis is a rare zoonosis, with less than one hundred cases reported. However, it is a cause of chronic abdominal pain and should be kept as a differential diagnosis, especially in cases reporting recurrent tapeworm expulsion in feces and refractory treatment with albendazole.

RESUMO Objetivo: Descrever o primeiro caso conhecido de bertielose humana no Paraná, Brasil. Descrição do caso: Criança de seis anos do sexo masculino, residente no Paraná, Brasil, apresentava dor abdominal inespecífica intermitente e distensão abdominal, associadas à expulsão de helmintos vivos em suas fezes havia sete meses. Tinha um histórico de interação com macacos em uma ilha. Sua primeira análise de fezes foi inconclusiva, com hipótese inicial de uma Taenia atípica. No entanto, após pesquisas adicionais, o parasitologista identificou proglótides gravídicas de Bertiella sp. O paciente foi inicialmente tratado com uma dosagem desconhecida de albendazol e nitazoxanida, pois se acreditava que havia sido infectado por Taenia sp. Diante da persistência dos sintomas, foi prescrito praziquantel 10 mg/kg, sem mais eliminação de proglótides. Comentários: A bertielose humana é uma zoonose rara, com menos de cem casos relatados. No entanto, é uma causa de dor abdominal crônica e deve ser mantida como diagnóstico diferencial, principalmente nos casos que relatam expulsão recorrente de helmintos nas fezes e que são refratários ao tratamento com albendazol.

Abstract Background: Ultra-low-dose Spinal Anesthesia (SA) is the practice of employing minimal doses of intrathecal agents so that only the roots that supply a specific area are anesthetized. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness and safety of ultra-low-dose spinal anesthesia with that of Perineal Blocks (PB). Methods: A two-arm, parallel, double-blind randomized controlled trial comparing two anesthetic techniques (SA and PB) for hemorrhoidectomy and anal fistula surgery was performed. The primary outcomes were postoperative pain, complementation and/or conversion of anesthesia, and hemodynamic changes. Results: Fifty-nine patients were included in the final analysis. The mean pain values were similar in the first 48 h in both groups (p > 0.05). The individuals allocated to the SA group did not need anesthetic complementation; however, those in the PB group required it considerably (SA group, 0% vs. PB group, 25%; p = 0.005). Hemodynamic changes were more pronounced after PB: during all surgical times, the PB group showed lower MAP values and higher HR values (p < 0.05). Postoperative urinary retention rates were similar between both groups (SA group 0% vs. PB group 3.1%, p = 0.354). Conclusion: SA and PB are similarly effective in pain control during the first 48 h after hemorrhoidec-tomy and anal fistula surgery. Although surgical time was shorter among patients in the PB group, the SA technique may be preferable as it avoids the need for additional anesthesia. Furthermore, the group that received perineal blocks was under sedation with a considerable dose of propofol.

Abstract The present research seeks to study environmental changes due to the advance of agribusiness on the territory of the Morro de São João Quilombola Community (CQMSJ), in the State of Tocantins, and its repercussions on surface temperatures. Large-scale commercial agriculture, in some cases, disregards in its practice the impacts it causes to traditional communities that live in the vicinity of large agricultural enterprises. The community realizes that it has experienced several environmental changes in its surroundings, due to the replacement of native vegetation by commercial crops, in the place that was previously part of its original territory. The methodological procedures were based on the use of geotechnologies for studies of themes related to the climate. For this, the terrestrial surface temperature (TST) was estimated over the territory that covers the CQMSJ in the dry winter season and in the rainy season in spring, through satellite images of the Landsat 7 and 8 series, in scenarios of observation of 1999/2000 and 2019/2020, referring to two moments: respectively, before and after the agricultural expansion in the study area. The results indicate that there was a surface temperature variation mainly associated with changes or alterations in land use and occupation. The increase in TST was more expressive in areas that are currently destined for agricultural production along the lines of agribusiness. The results point to probable consequences of intensive exploration of this traditional territory inserted in the Cerrado biome, especially regarding its microclimatic aspects, with possible implications for the life of a quilombola community.

Resumen La presente investigación busca cambios ambientales debido al avance de la agroindustria en el territorio de la Comunidad Quilombola Morro de São João (CQMSJ), en el Estado de Tocantins, y sus repercusiones en las temperaturas superficiales. La agricultura comercial a gran escala, en algunos casos, ignora en su práctica los impactos causados por las comunidades tradicionales que viven en las cercanías de las grandes empresas agrícolas. La comunidad es consciente de que ha experimentado cambios ambientales, debido al reemplazo de su vegetación nativa por la agricultura, en el lugar que antes formaba parte de su territorio original. Los procedimientos metodológicos se basaron en el uso de geotecnologías para estudios temáticos relacionados con el clima. Para ello, se estimó la temperatura superficial terrestre (TST) sobre el territorio que cubre la CQMSJ en la época seca de invierno y en la época de lluvias en primavera, a través de imágenes satelitales de las series Landsat, 7 y 8, en escenarios de observación de 1999/2000 y 2019/2020, referidos a dos momentos: respectivamente, antes y después de la expansión agrícola en el área de estudio. Los resultados indican que hubo cambios de la temperatura superficial asociados, principalmente, a cambios en el uso y ocupación del suelo. El aumento de TST ocurrió de manera más significativa en áreas que actualmente se desarrollan para la producción agrícola de agronegocios. La señalización resulta de probables consecuencias de la exploración de este territorio tradicional inserto en el bioma Cerrado, en particular a sus aspectos microclimáticos, con posibles implicaciones en la vida de una comunidad quilombola.

Resumo A presente pesquisa busca estudar mudanças ambientais em virtude do avanço do agronegócio sobre o território da Comunidade Quilombola Morro de São João (CQMSJ), no Estado do Tocantins, e suas repercussões sobre as temperaturas de superfície. A agricultura comercial em larga escala, em alguns casos, desconsidera em sua prática os impactos que causam às comunidades tradicionais que vivem no entorno de grandes empreendimentos agrícolas. A comunidade percebe ter vivenciado diversas alterações ambientais em seu entorno, em razão da substituição da vegetação nativa por lavouras comerciais, no local que antes fazia parte de seu território original. Os procedimentos metodológicos se basearam no uso de geotecnologias para estudos de temáticas relacionadas ao clima. Para isso, estimou-se a temperatura de superfície terrestre (TST) sobre o território que abrange a CQMSJ na estação seca de inverno e na estação chuvosa de primavera, por meio de imagens de satélite da série Landsat 7 e 8, em cenários de observação de 1999/2000 e de 2019/2020, referentes a dois momentos: respectivamente, anterior e posterior à expansão agrícola na área de estudo. Os resultados indicam que houve uma variação da temperatura de superfície associada, principalmente, às mudanças ou alterações no uso e na ocupação da terra. O aumento de TST se deu de forma mais expressiva em áreas que atualmente são destinadas para a produção agrícola nos moldes do agronegócio. Os resultados sinalizam para prováveis consequências da exploração intensiva desse território tradicional inserido no bioma Cerrado, em especial quanto aos seus aspectos microclimáticos, com possíveis implicações sobre a vida de uma comunidade quilombola.

Objectives: Animal hoarding is a special manifestation of hoarding disorder, characterized by the accumulation of animals and failure to provide them with minimal care. The main objective of this systematic review is to evaluate the characteristics of animal hoarding, focusing on the profile of affected individuals and the features of accumulation behavior. Methods: A systematic search of the literature was conducted in the electronic databases MEDLINE, Scopus, and LILACS until October 2022. We included case series (n ≥ 10) and cross-sectional studies assessing animal hoarding. Results: A total of 374 studies were initially retrieved. Most studies were classified as having poor quality and significant risk of bias. A total of 538 individuals with animal hoarding were evaluated. These individuals were predominantly middle-aged, unmarried women who lived alone in urban areas. Most of their residences had unsanitary conditions. Recidivism rates varied from 13-41%. Cats and dogs were the main hoarded species, mostly acquired through unplanned breeding, and disease, injury, behavioral problems, and a lack of hygiene were characreristic of their condition. Animal carcasses were found in up to 60% of the properties. Conclusion: Animal hoarding is a complex condition that requires urgent attention. More research is necessary to develop effective strategies that can save community resources, improve animal and human welfare, and prevent recidivism.

Abstract Background Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a frequent cause of young-onset dementia and represents a major challenge for the diagnosis and clinical management. It is essential to evaluate the difficulties faced by physicians on the diagnostic workup and on patient care. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the current practices and the local limits on the diagnosis and management of FTD in Brazil. Methods We elaborated an online survey, composed of 29 questions and divided in four parts, comprising questions about existing health facilities, clinical practices related to FTD, and suggestions to increment the national research on FTD. The invitation to participate was sent by email to all neurologists affiliated to the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (n = 3658), and to all physicians who attended the XII Meeting of Researchers on Alzheimer's disease, in 2019 (n = 187). The invitation was also diffused through social media. Results 256 Brazilian physicians answered the questionnaire. The three most relevant disorders for the differential diagnosis of FTD were Alzheimer's disease (AD) (n = 211), bipolar disorder (n = 117) and dementia with Lewy bodies (n = 92). Most respondents (125/256) reported the difficulty in performing genetic testing as the main limit in the diagnostic of FTD. 93% and 63% of participants considered that the assessment of social cognition and AD CSF biomarkers are useful for the diagnosis of FTD, respectively. Conclusions The present study may provide valuable insights for the medical education and clinical training of physicians, and to foster future research on FTD in Brazil.

Resumo Antecedentes A demência frontotemporal (DFT) é causa frequente de demência pré-senil e representa um desafio em termos de diagnóstico e de manejo clínico. É essencial avaliar as dificuldades existentes na propedêutica e nos cuidados médicos. Objetivo Investigar as práticas médicas e as dificuldades para diagnóstico e manejo da DFT no Brasil. Métodos Elaborou-se um questionário online, composto de 29 questões, divididas em quatro partes, com perguntas sobre infraestrutura existente, práticas clínicas relacionadas à DFT e sugestões para desenvolver a pesquisa nacional na área. O convite para participação foi enviado por e-mail a todos neurologistas afiliados à Academia Brasileira de Neurologia (n = 3658), e aos médicos que participaram da XII Reunião de Pesquisadores de Doença de Alzheimer, em 2019 (n = 187). O convite também foi divulgado através de mídias sociais. Resultados 256 médicos brasileiros responderam o questionário. Os três principais diagnósticos diferenciais de DFT foram doença de Alzheimer (n = 211), transtorno bipolar (n = 117) e demência com corpos de Lewy (n = 92). A maior parte dos respondedores (125/256) apontou a dificuldade em realizar testagem genética como o maior limite no diagnóstico de DFT. 93% e 63% dos respondedores indicaram que a avaliação de cognição social e o uso de biomarcadores liquóricos de doença de Alzheimer são úteis no diagnóstico de DFT, respectivamente. Conclusões Estes resultados devem ser considerados na educação e treinamento médicos, e no desenvolvimento da pesquisa brasileira em DFT.

Resumo Objetivo: avaliar a incompletude dos dados do Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade (SIM) para óbitos por causas externas (CEs) no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, 2000-2019. Métodos: estudo ecológico, com dados do SIM para a totalidade das CEs e, especificamente, por acidentes de transporte, homicídios, suicídios e quedas; analisou-se a tendência da incompletude via regressão de Prais-Winsten, com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: 146.882 óbitos foram avaliados; sexo (0,1%), local de ocorrência do óbito (0,1%) e idade (0,4%) mostraram as menores incompletudes, em 2019; a proporção de incompletude apresentou tendência decrescente para local de ocorrência do óbito e escolaridade, crescente para estado civil e estável para idade e raça/cor da pele, entre todos os tipos de óbito avaliados. Conclusão: as variáveis analisadas alcançaram alto grau de preenchimento; à exceção do estado civil e da escolaridade, para as quais persistiram escores insatisfatórios para óbitos por CEs, totais e por subgrupos.

Resumen Objetivo: evaluar la incompletitud de los datos del Sistema de Información de Mortalidad (SIM) para las defunciones por causas externas (CEs) en Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, 2000-2019. Métodos: estudio ecológico con datos del SIM por causas externas, totales y por accidentes de tránsito, homicidios, suicidios y caídas; se utilizó la regresión de Prais-Winsten para evaluar la tendencia de incompletitud, con un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: se evaluaron 146.882 muertes; sexo (0,1%), lugar de muerte (0,1%) y edad (0,4%) mostraron menos incompletitud en 2019; la tendencia de la proporción de incompletitud disminuyó para el lugar de ocurrencia y la educación, aumentó para el estado civil y se mantuvo estable para edad y raza/color del piel para todo tipo de muertes evaluadas. Conclusión: las variables analizadas lograron alta calidad de información, con excepción del estado civil y educación, que persistieron con incompletitud insatisfactoria para las muertes por CE (total y subgrupos).

Abstract Objective: to evaluate the incompleteness of Mortality Information System (Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade - SIM) data on deaths from external causes (ECs) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, 2000-2019. Methods: This was an ecological study, using SIM data on all deaths from external causes and, specifically, from transport accident, homicides, suicides and falls; the analysis of the trend of incompleteness was performed by means of Prais-Winsten regression, with a 5% significance level. Results: A total of 146,882 deaths were evaluated; sex (0.1%), place of death (0.1%) and age (0.4%) showed the lowest incompleteness in 2019; the proportion of incompleteness showed a decreasing trend for the place of death and schooling, an increasing trend for marital status and a stable trend for age and race/skin color, among all types of death evaluated. Conclusion: the variables analyzed reached a high degree of completion; with the exception of marital status and schooling, for which unsatisfactory scores persisted for deaths from ECs, both total and by subgroups.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the spatial distribution of mortality from cardiovascular diseases in the municipalities of the state of Ceará, Brazil, between 2009-2019. Methods: This is an ecological study with a spatial focus on the state of Ceará, considering the period from 2009 to 2019. Death data from the Brazilian Mortality Information System and population data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics were used to calculate crude and standardized mortality rates from cardiovascular diseases. Temporal analysis was carried out using the Joinpoint Regression Program 4.9.0 software and spatial analysis of the municipalities’ average mortality. The values were smoothed by the local empirical Bayesian method using QGIS 3.16. For spatial clusters, the Global and Local Moran Index was used through Moran Map and LISA Map, with analyses carried out in TerraView 4.2.2. Results: A total of 132,145 deaths from cardiovascular diseases were recorded in the period, with an average increase of 3% per year. Higher mortality rates were observed in men, people aged ≥80 years, mixed-race ethnicity/skin color, married, and with lower level of education. There was the formation of clusters of municipalities with high mortality rates in the regions of Vale do Jaguaribe, Sertão Central, Centro Sul, Sertão dos Inhamuns and Serra da Ibiapaba. Conclusion: This study identified municipalities with high mortality and exposed the need for strategies aligned with the reality and particularities of these locations.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a distribuição espacial da mortalidade por doenças cardiovasculares nos municípios do Ceará entre 2009 e 2019. Métodos: Estudo ecológico com enfoque espacial no estado do Ceará, considerando o período de 2009 a 2019. Utilizaram-se dados de óbito do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade e dados populacionais do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística para cálculos de taxas brutas e padronizadas de mortalidade por doenças cardiovasculares. Realizaram-se a análise temporal, pelo software Joinpoint Regression Program 4.9.0, e a espacial da mortalidade média dos municípios. Os valores foram suavizados pelo método bayesiano empírico local utilizando-se o QGIS 3.16. Para os aglomerados espaciais, adotou-se o Índice de Moran Global e Local por meio do Moran Map e LISA Map, sendo as análises realizadas no TerraView 4.2.2. Resultados: Foram registrados 132.145 óbitos por doenças cardiovasculares no período, com crescimento médio de 3% ao ano. Maiores taxas de mortalidade foram observadas em homens, pessoas com idade ≥80 anos, raça/cor parda, casados, com menor escolaridade. Houve formação de aglomerados de municípios com altas taxas de mortalidade nas regiões do Vale do Jaguaribe, Sertão Central, Centro Sul, Sertão dos Inhamuns e Serra da Ibiapaba. Conclusão: Este estudo identificou os municípios com elevada mortalidade e expôs a necessidade de estratégias alinhadas com a realidade e particularidades desses locais.

ABSTRACT Tamandua Gray, 1825 contains two species of anteaters: Tamandua mexicana (Saussure, 1860), which occurs in southern Mexico, throughout Central America and south to the west of the Andes in South America, and Tamandua tetradactyla (Linnaeus, 1758), widely distributed in South America, from Venezuela to northern Argentina, as well as Trinidad and Tobago. Historically, different coloration patterns have been attributed to the coat of Tamandua, with T. mexicana typically showing a partial or complete dark “vest” on the dorsal portion of the body, whereas T. tetradactyla can show a complete, partial, or absent vest and a coat varying from golden, pale yellow and pale gray to brown or black. These different coat colors are sometimes treated as inherent characteristics of subspecies of Tamandua. Here, we review color variation in Tamandua and describe six chromatic disorders for the genus: albinism, leucism, “brown” variation, melanism (partial and total), xanthochromism (partial and total) and, for the first time for anteaters, erythrism. In addition, we detail the morphological expression and geographic distribution of these anomalies in populations of Tamandua from Central and South America.

ABSTRACT This work aims at evaluating and discriminating crambe genotypes regarding tolerance to water deficit by means of morpho-agronomic and physiological traits. The trial was carried out in a greenhouse under a randomized complete block design with four blocks, in a 2 x 8 factorial scheme, being two environments (with and without stress) and eight genotypes (FMS CR 1101, FMS CR 1106, FMS CR 1203, FMS CR 1305, FMS CR 1307, FMS CR 1312 and FMS CR 1326 and cultivar FMS Brilhante). The genotypes were evaluated according to physiological and morpho-agronomic traits. The significance of the mean squares was tested by the F test (P < 0.05) and the genetic parameters were estimated as ratio b between the genetic (CVg) and experimental (CVe) coefficients of variation, broad-sense heritability at genotypic mean level ( h ^ m 2), intraclass correlation (r) and selective accuracy (Ac). In general, water deficit did not cause severe physiological limitations to the plants. Plant height (PH), total dry mass (TDM) and grain yield (GY) were the traits that stood out for presenting the highest estimates of ratio b, h ^ m 2), CVg and r, revealing the possibility of genetic gains with the selection. Nevertheless, after evaluating the performance of genotypes in terms of physiological and morpho-agronomic traits, it was concluded that cultivar FMS Brilhante and inbred lines FMS CR 1326 and FMS CR 1106 had the most favorable traits for the selection, therefore, presenting potential for water deficit tolerance.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to develop interactive gerontechnology for the prevention of falls in the elderly at home. Methods: an exploratory and descriptive study that consisted of gerontechnology development and evaluation by experts and the target audience. For evaluation, researchers used the Agreement Index (AI), considering values greater than 80%. Results: the three-dimensional virtual scale model was elaborated through the SketchUp program, with the distribution of rooms and floors, constituting Prototype 1 (P1). Fifty-four judges evaluated the P1, and all presented agreement above the established, with a minimum AI of 88% and a maximum of 100%, producing Prototype 2 (P2). Thirty elderly participants from a philanthropic institution evaluated Prototype 2. On all items, AI ranged from 83% a 100%, resulting in the final version. Conclusions: the product of this research reveals itself as an innovative and scientifically based tool aimed at preventing falls in the elderly.

RESUMEN Objetivos: desarrollar gerontecnología interactiva para prevención de caídas en ancianos en el domicilio. Métodos: estudio exploratorio y descriptivo que consistió en el desarrollo de la gerontecnología y evaluación por especialistas y por público objetivo. Para evaluación, utilizado el Índice de Concordancia (IC), considerando valores mayores que 80%. Resultados: elaborado la maqueta tridimensional virtual mediante el programa SketchUp, con la distribución de las habitaciones y pisos, constituyendo el Prototipo 1 (P1). El P1 fue evaluado por 54 jueces, y todos presentaron concordancia arriba del establecido, con IC mínimo de 88% y máximo de 100%, produciendo el Prototipo 2 (P2). Esto fue sometido a la evaluación por 30 ancianos participantes de institución filantrópica. En todos los ítems, el IC varió de 83% a 100%, resultando en la versión final. Conclusiones: el producto de esta investigación se revela como herramienta innovadora y científicamente fundamentada objetivando a la prevención de caídas en personas ancianas.

Métodos: estudo exploratório e descritivo que consistiu no desenvolvimento da gerontecnologia e avaliação por especialistas e pelo público-alvo. Para avaliação, utilizou-se o Índice de Concordância (IC), considerando valores maiores que 80%. Resultados: elaborou-se a maquete tridimensional virtual por meio do programa SketchUp, com a distribuição dos cômodos e andares, constituindo o Protótipo 1 (P1). O P1 foi avaliado por 54 juízes, e todos apresentaram concordância acima do estabelecido, com IC mínimo de 88% e máximo de 100%, produzindo o Protótipo 2 (P2). Este foi submetido à avaliação por 30 idosos participantes de instituição filantrópica. Em todos os itens, o IC variou de 83% a 100%, resultando na versão final. Conclusões: o produto desta pesquisa se revela como ferramenta inovadora e cientificamente fundamentada visando à prevenção de quedas em pessoas idosas.

Abstract Background Healthy brain aging can be defined as aging without neurological or psychiatric disorders, sustaining functional independence. In addition to the absence of disease and preserved functionality, there are individuals who stand out for their superior performance to that considered normal for their age in cognitive tests. These individuals are called “high-performance older adults” (HPOA). Objectives To investigate the presence of HPOA in an oldest-old population with low education, and if present, to investigate associations with sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle variables. Methods We evaluated 132 cognitively healthy individuals from the Pietà Study, a population-based investigation with 639 participants. We used the delayed recall from the Rey Auditory-Verbal Learning Test to verify the existence of HPOA and to classify participants based on their performance. Sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle variables associated with HPOA were investigated. Results We identified 18 individuals fulfilling HPOA criteria (age: 77.4 ± 2.6 years old; 14 women; education: 4.6 ± 3.4 years). The other participants, 114 total (age: 79.8 ± 4.5 years old; 69 women; education: 3.0 ± 2.7 years) were classified as “standard performance older adults” (SPOA). In multivariate analysis, younger age (odds ratio [OR] =0.672; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.462-0.979; p = 0.037) and lower scores on the Geriatric Depression Scale (OR = 0.831; 95%CI: 0.688-0.989; p = 0.038) were associated with HPOA. Conclusions The present study identifies for the first time HPOA with low educational level, thereby reinforcing the existence of biological substrates related to this condition. Furthermore, the data suggest an association between younger age and less depressive symptoms with HPOA.

Resumo Antecedentes Envelhecimento cerebral saudável pode ser definido como envelhecimento sem transtornos neurológicos ou psiquiátricos e com independência funcional. Além da ausência de doença e funcionalidade preservada, existem indivíduos que se destacam pelo desempenho superior ao normal em testes cognitivos. Estes indivíduos são chamados de “high performance older adults” (HPOA, na sigla em inglês). Objetivos Investigar a presença de HPOA em uma população de idosos com baixa escolaridade e, se presente, investigar associações com variáveis sociodemográficas, clínicas e de estilo de vida. Métodos Avaliamos 132 indivíduos cognitivamente saudáveis do Estudo Pietà (n = 639). Foi utilizado o Teste de Aprendizagem Auditivo-Verbal de Rey para verificar a existência de HPOA e classificar os participantes em dois grupos com base em seu desempenho. Variáveis sociodemográficas, clínicas e de estilo de vida associadas a HPOA foram investigadas. Resultados Identificamos 18 indivíduos que preencheram critérios para HPOA (idade: 77,4 ± 2,6 anos; 14 mulheres; escolaridade: 4,6 ± 3,4 anos). Os demais, 114 no total (idade: 79,8 ± 4,5 anos; 69 mulheres; escolaridade: 3,0 ± 2,7 anos), foram classificados como “standard performance older adults” (SPOA, na sigla em inglês). Na análise multivariada, menor idade (odds ratio [OR] =0,672; intervalo de confiança [IC] 95%: 0,462-0,979; p = 0,037) e menor pontuação na Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (OR = 0,831; IC95%: 0,688-0,989; p = 0,038) foram associados ao grupo HPOA. Conclusões O presente estudo identifica pela primeira vez HPOA entre indivíduos de baixa escolaridade, reforçando a existência de substratos biológicos relacionados a esta condição. Além disso, os dados sugerem uma associação entre idade mais jovem e menos sintomas depressivos com HPOA.
