Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the use of acidulated soybean soapstock in association with lecithin on productive performance, metabolic efficiency in the utilization of nutrientes, and the egg quality of Japanese quails. A total of 192 quails were used, distributed randomly in a 2×2×2 factorial scheme that included two types of oils, two levels of supplementation (4% and 8%) and two levels of lecithin (1% or 0%). At the end of the six-month experimental period, some double significant interactions were shown between the level of oil and lecithin for the performance variables (egg weight p=0.04, feed intake p<0.01 and feed conversion rate p=0.04). The feed conversion rate also was influenced by a double significant interaction between the type of oil and the level of oil (p<0.01). The nutrient digestibility showed that different interactions affected the results. The evaluation of egg quality, was verified that the use of acidulated soybean soapstock did not affect most variables of internal quality. The results showed that it is possible to use 8% acidulated soybean soapstock in combination with 1% lecithin in the diets of Japanese quails for a period of up to six months without a reduction in performance.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos do óleo ácido de soja (OAS) sobre coeficientes de extinção específica da oxidação (K232 e K270) e a metabolizabilidade das dietas e o desempenho produtivo em codornas. Um total de 80 codornas de duplo propósito foram usadas num experimento com duração de 56 dias. Foi utilizado um delineamento completamente ao acaso com cinco níveis de tratamentos para OAS (0, 25, 50, 75 e 100%), com oito repetições de duas aves cada, como substituto ao óleo de soja refinado (OS) incluído até um nível máximo de 8% na formulação da dieta. O índice de acidez e os coeficientes K232 e K270 mostraram um efeito linear crescente (P<0,001) com o aumento dos níveis de inclusão de OAS na formulação das dietas. Os coeficientes K232 e K270 não foram alterados com o armazenamento das rações durante 7 dias. A suplementação com OAS durante 56 dias não afetou o desempenho produtivo das codornas. Os resultados não mostraram efeitos do OAS sobre a metabolizabilidade de ingredientes, exceto para gordura bruta que exibiu um efeito quadrático decrescente até o nível de 50% de substituição do óleo de soja por OAS (y= 94,31-1,186x+0,018x2, R2= 0,28, P= 0,02). Em conclusão, a inclusão de até 8% de OAS na dieta durante um período curto de tempo (56 dias) não produz efeitos adversos no desempenho produtivo de codornas.

ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effects of soybean acid oil (OAS) on oxidation products specific extinctions coefficients (K232 and K270) and metabolizability of diets and productive performance in quails. A total of 80 dual-purpose quails were used in a 56-days experiment. A completely randomised design with five treatment levels of OAS (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) as a dietary replacer for soybean oil (OS) included up to 8% in the diet formulation were used, with eight replicates of two birds each. The acidity index and K232 and K270 coefficients showed a crescent linear effect (P<0.001), with increasing levels of OAS in the diet formulation. There were no changes in K232 and K270 values during 7-days of diet storage. Supplementation with OAS during 56 days has no effect on quail’s productive performance. The results showed no effects of OAS on metabolizability of ingredients except for crude fat that exhibited a quadratic effect that was decrescent to the level of 50% of OAS supplementation as soybean oil replacer (y= 94.31-1.186x+0.018x2, R2= 0.28, P= 0.02). In conclusion, dietary inclusion of OAS up to 8% in the diet during a short period of time (56-days) produce no adverse effects on productive performance of quails.

Resumo Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a estabilidade térmica e a foto-estabilidade do potencial antioxidante (PA) da biomassa da Spirulina platensis. A estabilidade térmica foi avaliada a 25ºC, 40ºC e 50ºC por 60 dias. A foto-estabilidade foi avaliada usando luz UV (15 W, λ = 265 nm) e fluorescente (20 W, 0.16 A, fator de potência FP > 0.5, 50/60 Hz, 60 lm/w, 1200 lm) por 90 dias em cápsulas, vidro e placas de Petri. O PA da biomassa nessas condições foi determinado em intervalos de tempo (a cada 7 e 30 dias nos estudos de estabilidade térmica e foto-estabilidade, respectivamente), usando a indução da oxidação de um sistema lipídico por calor e aeração. Neste sistema lipídico, a biomassa submetida à degradação foi usada como antioxidante. A cinética da reação foi determinada pelo método de Arrhenius. A degradação térmica seguiu uma cinética de zero ordem, enquanto que a fotodegradação seguiu uma cinética de primeira ordem. O PA diminuiu 50% depois de 50 dias a 25°C. A 40°C e 50°C, o PA diminuiu mais de 50% depois de 35 e 21 dias de exposição, respectivamente. A diminuição do PA da Spirulina foi mais sensível à luz UV e fluorescente. Depois de 30 dias de exposição, o PA diminuiu mais de 50% em todas as condições de armazenamento testadas. O potencial antioxidante da Spirulina platensis é facilmente diminuído quando a biomassa é exposta ao calor e a luz, indicando a necessidade de cuidados durante seu armazenamento.

Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the thermal and photo stability of the antioxidant potential (AP) of the Spirulina platensis biomass. Thermal stability was established at 25ºC, 40ºC and 50ºC for 60 days, in the dark, protected from light. Photo stability was evaluated using UV (15 W, λ = 265 nm) and fluorescent (20 W, 0.16 A, power factor FP > 0.5, 50/60 Hz, 60 lm/w, 1200 lm) light for 90 days in capsules, glass and Petri dishes, at room temperature. The AP of the biomass in these conditions was determined at intervals (every 7 and 30 days in the studies of thermal and photo stability, respectively) using the induction of the oxidation of a lipid system by heat and aeration. In this lipid system, the biomass submitted to degradation was used as an antioxidant. The kinetics of the reaction was determined by the Arrhenius method. Thermal degradation was found to follow zero order kinetics, whereas photo degradation followed first order kinetics. The AP decreased 50% after 50 days at 25°C. At 40°C and 50°C, the AP decreased more than 50% after 35 and 21 days of exposition, respectively. The decrease of the AP of Spirulina was more sensible to UV and fluorescence light. After 30 days of exposition, the AP decreased more than 50% in all storage conditions tested. The antioxidant potential of Spirulina platensis is easily degraded when the biomass is exposed to heat and light, indicating the need for care to be taken in its storage.

RESUMO Hypocala andremona (Stoll, 1781) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) é a principal praga do caquizeiro no Brasil. Neste trabalho estudou-se a biologia do inseto em folhas de caquizeiro da cultivar Fuyu, nas temperaturas de 18, 22, 26 e 30º C, determinando-se as exigências térmicas e estimando-se o número anual de gerações nas principais regiões produtoras de caqui do Brasil. A duração dos estágios imaturos e do período ovo-adulto de H. andremona foi dependente da temperatura, sendo 22 e 26º C as mais adequadas para o desenvolvimento do inseto. Os valores do limiar térmico inferior de desenvolvimento (Tb) de H. andremona foram 7,62, 8,76, 10,96 e 11,03° C, com constantes térmicas (K) de 45,80, 383,82, 174,90 e 512,59GD para os estágios de ovo, lagarta, pupa e período ovo-adulto, respectivamente, permitindo ao inseto completar 2,9 gerações por ano em Vacaria, 3,6 em Caxias do Sul, e 6,3 em Montenegro, RS; 3,5 em Joaçaba e 4,0 em Canoinhas, SC; 3,7 em Maringá, 3,8 em Curitiba e 6,7 em Apucarana, PR; 5,7 em Mogi das Cruzes, 6,8 em Bragança Paulista e 7,1 em Jundiaí, SP; 4,9 em Nova Friburgo e 6,8 na região Serrana, RJ; e 5,7 em Santa Rita do Sapucaí, MG.

ABSTRACT Hypocala andremona (Stoll, 1781) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is the most important pest of persimmon in Brazil. In this research, the biology of this insect was studied on persimmon leaves of the cultivar Fuyu, at temperatures of 18, 22, 26 and 30º C. The thermal requirements were determined and the annual number of generations in the main persimmon growing regions of Brazil was estimated. The duration of the immature stages and of the egg-adult period of H. andremona depended on the temperature. Temperatures of 22 and 26º C were the most adequate for the development of the insects. The thermal threshold of development of H. andremona (Tb) was 7.62, 8.76, 10.96 and 11.03° C. The thermal constants (K) for the egg, larval and pupal stages and for the egg-adult period were 45.80, 383.82, 174.90 and 512.59 GD, respectively, allowing for the completion of 2.9 generations per year in Vacaria, 3.6 in Caxias do Sul, and 6.3 in Montenegro, RS; 3.5 in Joaçaba and 4.0 in Canoinhas, SC; 3.7 in Maringá, 3.8 in Curitiba and 6.7 in Apucarana, PR; 5.7 in Mogi das Cruzes, 6.8 in Bragança Paulista, and 7.1 in Jundiaí, SP; 4.9 in Nova Friburgo and 6.8 in the Serrana region, RJ; and 5.7 in Santa Rita do Sapucaí, MG.
