RESUMO Em viveiros de mudas de cafeeiro (Coffea arabica) ocorrem condições favoráveis para a ocorrência de epidemias da mancha aureolada (Pseudomonas syringae pv. garcae). Estudar a distribuição espacial de plantas doentes pode auxiliar na adoção de estratégias de manejo. Nesse sentido, a geoestatística tem sido aplicada para modelar a distribuição espacial e estudar aspectos epidemiológicos de doenças de plantas. Assim, este estudo foi desenvolvido para caracterizar o padrão de distribuição espacial da mancha aureolada em viveiro de mudas de cafeeiro. Para isso, o progresso da doença foi monitorido ao longo do tempo em 704 mudas organizadas em linhas e colunas em viveiro. Considerando o diâmetro médio dos recipientes utilizados para produção das mudas, foi realizado o georreferencimento das mudas no viveiro em sistema de coordenadas plano-cartesiano. Os dados de incidência da doença foram submetidos a uma análise exploratória não espacial e à análise geoestatística. O semivariograma isotrópico esférico foi ajustado aos dados e a interpolação dos dados foi realizada por krigagem ordinária para visualizar a distribuição espacial de mudas sintomáticas. Epidemia da doença foi detectada em viveiro durante o período experimental, havendo variabilidade e dependência espacial em relação à distribuição das mudas doentes. Com o decorrer da epidemia, houve aumento da população de plantas doença, número e tamanho dos focos e coalescência desses. Além disso, houve aumento do valor do alcance, patamar e do efeito pepita. Os mapas de krigagem mostraram o progresso da doença e sua variação. A epidemia da mancha aureolada do cafeeiro iniciou com padrão aleatório de distribuição espacial, progredindo para padrão agregado.

ABSTRACT In nurseries of coffee tree seedlings (Coffea arabica), there are favorable conditions for bacterial blight epidemics (Pseudomonas syringae pv. garcae). Studying the spatial distribution of diseased plants can help in the adoption of management strategies. Likewise, geostatistics has been applied to shape the spatial distribution and study epidemiological aspects of plant diseases. Thus, this study was developed to characterize the spatial distribution pattern of bacterial blight in a nursery of coffee tree seedlings. The disease progress was monitored over time in 704 seedlings organized in lines and columns in a nursery. Considering the mean diameter of the pots used for producing seedlings, georeferencing was carried out in Cartesian coordinate system for the seedlings in the nursery. The disease incidence data were subjected to non-spatial exploratory analysis and geostatistical analysis. The spherical isotropic semivariogram model was adjusted to the data and data interpolation was performed by ordinary kriging to visualize the spatial distribution of symptomatic seedlings. Bacterial blight epidemic was detected in the nursery during the experimental period, and there was variability and spatial dependence in relation to the distribution of diseased seedlings. As the epidemic progressed, the population of diseased plants increased, as well as the number and the size of the foci and their coalescence. Besides, there was an increase in the range value, sill and nugget effect. The kriging maps showed the disease progress and its variance. The bacterial blight epidemic of coffee tree started with a random spatial distribution pattern, progressing to an aggregate pattern.

RESUMO Em relação às diversas doenças que reduzem a produção da cultura do tomateiro, destaca-se a ocorrência da virose conhecida como “vira-cabeça”. Epidemias dessa doença são frequentes com altas taxas de progresso e danos significativos. Nesse caso, estudos sobre a variabilidade espaço-temporal podem auxiliar em propor estratégias de manejo. Portanto, o objetivo desse estudo foi mapear a distribuição espacial da incidência do “vira-cabeça” ao longo do tempo em lavoura de tomateiro, para entender os mecanismos de dispersão do patógeno e progresso da doença. Para isso, a presença ou ausência de sintomas da doença foi monitorada ao longo do tempo em 120 plantas georreferenciadas, dispostas em malha regular e distribuídos num espaçamento de 1,0 x 0,5 m. Os dados de incidência da doença foram submetidos à análise geoestatística. Após o ajuste dos semivariogramas foi realizada a interpolação dos dados por krigagem. Houve epidemia da doença na lavoura de tomate, e a taxa de progresso (Dy/Dt) variou de 4,7 a 6 plantas doentes/dia, e 100% das plantas apresentaram sintomas aos 20 dias após a primeira detecção da doença na lavoura. Houve dependência espacial forte da distribuição das plantas de tomateiro com sintomas de “vira-cabeça” em todas as avaliações, e valor de alcance variando de 4,3 a 1,69 m. Ao longo do tempo surgiram focos secundários da doença, expansão lateral e coalescência desses, caracterizando dispersão por ação do agente vetor associado às fontes de inóculo inicial, internas e externas à lavoura. O padrão aleatório de distribuição da doença evoluiu para agregado, e posteriormente regular.

ABSTRACT Considering the various diseases that reduce tomato crop production, the virosis known as “vira-cabeça” is highlighted. Epidemics of this disease are frequent, showing high progress rates and expressive damage. In this case, studies about the space-time variability can help propose management strategies. Therefore, the aim this study was to map the spatial distribution of tospovirus incidence over time in a tomato crop in order to understand the dispersal mechanisms of this pathogen and the disease progress. Thus, the presence or the absence of symptoms of this disease was monitored over time in 120 georeferenced plants, arranged in a regular mesh and distributed in a spacing of 1.0 x 0.5 m. The disease incidence data were subjected to the geostatistical analysis. After the adjustment of semivariograms, interpolation of data was performed by means of kriging. There was epidemic of the disease in tomato crop, and the progress rate (Dy/Dt) varied from 4.7 to 6 diseased plants/day, while 100% plants exhibited symptoms at 20 days after the first detection of the disease on the crop. There was strong spatial dependence of the distribution of tomato plants with symptoms of “vira-cabeça” in all assessments, and the reach value varied from 4.3 to 1.69 m. Over time, secondary foci of the disease emerged, as well as lateral expansion and coalescence of the latter, characterizing dispersion due to the action of the vector agent associated with initial inoculum sources, internal and external to the tomato crop. The random pattern of the disease distribution progressed to aggregated and subsequently regular.

ResumenLa distribución espacial y temporal de la vegetación esta influenciada por factores edáficos, ambientales y alteraciones. En ese contexto, el objetivo del estudio fue caracterizar el patrón de distribución y la dependencia espacial de la diversidad de especies en un fragmento de bosque estacional semideciduo, donde ocurrió un incendio, e identificar alteraciones a lo largo del proceso de regeneración natural. El incendio ocurrió en 1999, y en 2000, 2005 y 2014, se hicieron inventarios florísticos en 26 parcelas (400 m2) georreferenciadas y distribuidas en dos transectos. El índice de daño del fuego (IDF) se evaluó en cada parcela con base en una escala de 0 a 5. En cada inventario se identificaron las plantas arbóreas con diámetro a altura de pecho (DAP) ≥ 5 cm, calculando la diversidad de especies con base en el índice de Shannon (H’) y estimando la riqueza de especies (S). Esas variaciones fueron analizadas utilizando la curva de acumulación de especies, y la variación entre inventarios fue comparada con base en las medias y el error estándar. Los datos de S, H’ e IDF fueron sometidos a análisis exploratorio no espacial y a análisis geoestadístico. Después del ajuste de los semivariogramas, se clasificó el nivel de dependencia espacial y se hizo la interpolación de datos por Krigeado ordinario para caracterizar, en mapas, el patrón de distribución espacial de esas variables. Se encontró diferencia entre los inventarios realizados después del incendio, como en la configuración de la comunidad arbórea, por lo que el análisis espacial permitió identificar y caracterizar este hecho. El incendio afectó la estructura espacial y temporal de las variables S y H’. Estas variables presentan dependencia espacial y la distribución agregada, con distancias más pequeñas bajo influencia espacial, y la uniformidad de la distribución de los individuos en el fragmento de bosque durante las distintas etapas. Por último, se caracterizó la distribución y la dependencia espacial de las variables S e H ‘en un fragmento de bosque después de un incendio, y las alteraciones en la estructura de la comunidad arbórea durante la regeneración natural.

AbstractThe spatial and temporal distributions of vegetation can be influenced by edaphic and environmental factors as well as disturbances. The present study was undertaken to characterize the distribution and spatial dependence of species diversity in a fragment of semideciduous seasonal forest after a disturbance event by fire and to identify changes during natural regeneration. The fire, occurred in 1999, and surveys were undertaken in 2000, 2005 and 2014 in 26 geo-referenced plots (400 m²) distributed along two transects. The Fire Damage Index (FDI) in each plot was based on a scale from 0 to 5, and all of the arboreal individuals with diameters at breast height (DBH) ≥ 5 cm were identified in each plot. Species diversity was calculated using the Shannon index (H’), and species richness (S) was estimated using species accumulation curves; variations between the surveys compared based on the means and standard errors. The S, H’ and FDI data were submitted to non-spatial exploratory and geostatistical analyses. After adjusting the semivariograms, the levels of spatial dependence were classified, and interpolation of the variables values were performed using ordinary kriging to characterize their spatial distributions in the form of maps. Spatial analysis was used to identify and characterize differences between the post-fire surveys in terms of the configurations of the arboreal community. The fire event influenced the spatial and temporal structures of the variables S and H’. These variables showed spatial dependence and aggregated distributions, with reduction in the distance under spatial influences and a uniformity of individuals distribution in the forest fragment at the different surveys. This research characterized the distribution and spatial dependence of the variables S and H’ in a forest fragment after a fire event and the alterations in the arboreal community structure during natural regeneration.

RESUMO: A doença bolha seca, causada pelo fungo Lecanicillium fungicola, provoca infecções graves que resultam em perdas significativas na produção de champignon. O controle se dá através de práticas sanitárias e do uso de fungicidas, porém no Brasil não há produtos registrados. Desta forma, este estudo objetivou avaliar o efeito de óleos essenciais extraídos de Melissa officinalis, Thymus vulgaris, Origanum vulgare, Eucalyptus globulus, Cinnamomum zeylanicum e Syzygium aromaticum sobre o desenvolvimento in vitro de isolados de L. fungicola e aplicação dos melhores óleos em teste in vivo. Além disso, a interação entre Agaricus bisporus e L. fungicola foi verificada por meio de microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Os óleos de canela e cravo a partir da concentração 0.4% e tomilho a 0.8% inibiram o crescimento micelial do patógeno. Já a germinação de conídios foi inibida pelo óleo de canela em todas as concentrações, bem como pelos óleos de cravo e tomilho, a 0.4% e 0.8%, respectivamente. No experimento in vivo, a aplicação dos óleos essenciais pós-infestação apresentou menor incidência da doença nos cogumelos produzidos. A MEV revelou que após 19 horas da inoculação de L. fungicola em A. bisporus, os esporos já estavam completamente germinados, o que indicava a ocorrência da infecção. Assim, os resultados deste trabalho sugerem que os óleos de canela, cravo e tomilho são alternativas potenciais para o controle da doença bolha seca.

ABSTRACT: Lecanicillium fungicola, which causes Dry bubble disease, induces infections and inflicts major losses in champignon production. The control can be managed through measures of hygiene and use of fungicides; however, in Brazil there are no registered products. This study aimed to estimate the influence of various essential oils extracted from Melissa officinalis, Thymus vulgaris, Origanum vulgare, Eucalyptus globulus, Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Syzygium aromaticum on the in vitro development and their uses. Therefore, analysis was performed of the L. fungicola isolates in vitro and the best oils were tested in vivo. Besides, the Agaricus bisporus - L. fungicola interaction was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Cinnamon and clove oils in concentrations of 0.4% and thyme oil of 0.8% were identified as good growth inhibitors of the pathogenic mycelium. Effective inhibition of the conidial germination was seen in all concentrations by cinnamon oil, and by clove and thyme oils only at 0.4% and 0.8%, respectively. When the essential oils were applied post-infestation in the in vivo experiments the incidence of the disease in the mushrooms was much lower. From the SEM it was clear that 19 hours after the inoculation of A. bisporus with L. fungicola, the spores had already completely germinated, revealing the presence of the infection. Therefore, the findings of this study indicated that the oil extracts of cinnamon, clove and thyme are potential and efficient alternatives in the control of dry bubble disease.

Avaliaram-se danos e os níveis de resistência de cultivares e acessos de feijoeiro-comum resgatados nas regiões Sul e Serrana do Estado do Espírito Santo ao parasitismo de M. incognita raça 3 e M. javanica em casa de vegetação. Foram testados quatro genótipos resgatados de feijoeiro ("FORT-10", "FORT-13", "FORT-16" e "FORT-19"), e mais 2 cultivares comerciais: "Pérola"; e "Aporé". O cultivar "Rico-23" foi incluído como padrão de suscetibilidade aos nematóides e plantas não inoculadas constituíram a testemunha. Desta forma, o experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 3 (tratamentos considerando nematóides) x 7 (genótipos e cultivares de feijoeiros), com 7 repetições. Os dados foram mensurados aos 50 dias após a inoculação das plantas. Para a quantificação de danos foram avaliadas: altura das plantas (ALT), número de nós (NOS), número de folhas trifolioladas (NFT), peso da matéria fresca (PMF) e da matéria seca (PMS) da parte aérea, peso de raiz (PR), número de nódulos radiculares (NOD) e população final (PF) de nematóides por sistema radicular. Não foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os efeitos causados por M. incognita e M. javanica, porém ambas as espécies apresentaram valores inferiores quanto à ALT, NOS, NFT, PR, PMF e PMS em relação às testemunhas. Em relação aos níveis de resistência dos feijoeiros a M. incognita os feijoeiros "FORT-10", "FORT-13", "Aporé" e "FORT-16" comportaram-se como moderadamente resistente, as cultivares "Rico 23" e "Pérola" como pouco resistente e o genótipo "FORT-19" como altamente suscetível. Quando parasitados por M. javanica, os feijoeiros "FORT-19", "Rico 23", "FORT-16" e "FORT-13" foram pouco resistentes, "Pérola" e "Aporé" suscetíveis e "FORT-10" altamente suscetíveis.

The damage and the resistance levels of cultivars and accessions of common beans rescued in the South and mountain regions of Espírito Santo State, Brazil, to M. incognita race 3 and M. javanica parasitism were evaluated under a greenhouse. Four rescued bean genotypes ("FORT-10", "FORT-13", "FORT-16" and "FORT-19") and 2 commercial cultivars: "Pérola", and "Aporé", were tested. The cultivar "Rico-23" was included as standard of susceptibility to nematodes and non-inoculated plants constituted the control. Thus, the experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in 3 (treatments considering nematodes) x 7 (genotypes and bean cultivars) factorial arrangement, with 7 replicates. Data were measured at 50 days after plant inoculation. For damage quantification, the following variables were evaluated: plant height (PHE), number of nodes (NNO), number of trifoliate leaves (NRT), fresh matter weight (FWE) and dry matter weight (DWE) of shoots, root weight (RWE), number of root nodules (NRO) and final population (FPO) of nematodes per root system. There were no significant differences between the effects caused by M. incognita and M. javanica, but both species showed inferior values of PHE, NNO, NRT, RWE, FWE and DWE compared to controls. Concerning the levels of resistance of bean plants to M. incognita, the genotypes "FORT-10", "FORT-13", "Aporé" and "FORT-16" behaved as moderately resistant, the cultivars "Rico 23" and "Pérola" low resistant, and the genotype "FORT-19" as highly susceptible. When parasitized by M. javanica, the beans "FORT-19", "Rico-23", "FORT-16" and "FORT-13" were low resistant, "Pérola" and "Aporé" susceptible and "FORT-10" highly susceptible.
