ABSTRACT: Strawberry guava (Psidium cattleyanumm Sabine) is a species native to southern Brazil which exhibits significant potential for economic exploitation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth response of strawberry guava subjected to liming and phosphate fertilizer in pre-planting. The treatments consisted of four lime levels: 0; 33.3; 66.6 and 100 % of the dose needed to increase the pH in water to 6.0, and four phosphorus (P) doses: 0; 83.3; 166.6 and 250 kg ha–1 of P2O5. Plant growth parameters were evaluated for three years. In the years 2018 and 2019, the mineral composition of leaves, photosynthethic pigment indices and mycorrhizal colonization on strawberry guava roots were measured. Liming and phosphate fertilizer altered neither plant growth nor the photosynthetic pigment indices and there was no interaction between the factors studied and the remaining variables evaluated. However, liming promoted increases in the Ca and Mg shoot content, and the phosphate fertilizer increased the levels of shoot P in the third year of growth. Mycorrhizal colonization was stronger when the P soil levels were low, which could explain the absence of response to phosphate fertilization on plant growth for the first three years after planting.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar avaliar caracterísicas produtivas de pessegueiros submetidos a distintas doses de adubação potássica e estabelecer o nível crítico deste nutriente no solo e nas folhas de pessegueiro. O experimento foi conduzido nas safras de 2016, 2017 e 2018 em pomar comercial, localizado no município de Morro Redondo, Brasil. Os pessegueiros da cultivar Sensação foram adubados com as doses de 0; 40; 80; 120 e 160 kg ha-1 de K2O, na forma de cloreto de potássio aplicado na superfície do solo. Durante os três anos, foram avaliados a produção por planta, o número de frutos, a massa dos frutos, o diâmetro dos frutos e coletadas amostras de solo e folhas para realização de análise química. A adubação potássica em pomar de pessegueiro eleva os níveis deste nutriente na camada de 0 a 20 cm do solo. A adubação potássica via solo aumentou os teores de K nas folhas de pessegueiros. A produtividade dos pessegueiros responde à aplicação superficial de potássio via solo, mas não altera a massa média dos frutos. Não foi possível estabelecer o nível crítico entre a produtividade relativa e o teor de K no solo. O nível crítico estabelecido entre a produção o teor foliar de K dos pessegueiros foi de 2,84%.

Abstract This study aimed at evaluating production parameters of peach trees subject to different doses of potassium fertilization and at establishing the critical level of this nutrient in the soil and in peach tree leaves. The experiment was conducted in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons in a commercial orchard located in Morro Redondo, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Peach trees of the cultivar Sensação were fertilized at the following doses: 0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha-1 K2O as potassium chloride applied to the surface of the soil. In the 3-year study, production per plant, number of fruit, fruit mass and fruit diameter were evaluated while soil and leaf samples were collected to undergo chemical analyses. Potassium fertilization in peach orchards increases levels of this nutrient in the 0-20 cm soil layer. Potassium fertilization via soil increased potassium contents in peach tree leaves. Productivity of peach trees responds to superficial potassium application via soil but it does not affect mean fruit mass. The critical level between relative productivity and potassium content in the soil could not be established while the one between production and potassium content of leaves of peach trees was 2.84%.

Resumo O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a viabilidade técnica do índice SPAD no diagnóstico do estado de N em pessegueiros cv. Esmeralda. O experimento, com cinco níveis de N aplicado no solo (0; 40; 80; 120 e 160 kg ha-1 de N na forma de ureia), foi conduzido a campo, em delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Durante os anos de 2014, 2015, 2016 e 2017, realizaram-se leituras com clorofilômetro, modelo Minolta SPAD-502, na parte mediana da folha, em 40 folhas por parcela. A determinação do teor foliar de N foi realizada em Analisador Elementar CHN-S. O índice SPAD e o teor de N nas folhas aumentaram de forma linear, de acordo com o aumento das doses de N aplicadas no solo. Houve efeito das doses de N aplicadas no solo sobre o índice SPAD, e os teores foliares de N apresentaram correlação linear positiva com as leituras SPAD (0.652; 0.756; 0.762 e 0.767, p<0.05). O índice SPAD pode ser utilizado no diagnóstico nutricional de N em pessegueiro, quando as leituras são realizadas entre a 13a e a 15a semana após a plena floração. Na faixa compreendida entre 39 e 49, o índice SPAD indica que o N foliar está compreendido na classe “normal” (33 – 45 g kg-1) de interpretação agronômica, para os Estados do Rio Grande do Sul e de Santa Catarina, Brasil.

Abstract The objective of this research was to evaluate the technical feasibility of SPAD index in the diagnosis of N status in ‘Esmeralda’ peach. The field trial, with five N rates applied to the soil (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha-1 of N as urea form) was conducted in a randomized block design with four replications. During the years 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, SPAD readings were carried out with a Minolta SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter, in the leaf middle part, in 40 leaves per plot. The leaf N content determination was performed in CHN-S Elemental Analyzer. SPAD index and leaf N content increased in a linear way in response to increasing N rates applied in soil. There was a positive linear correlation between SPAD index and N concentration in leaves (0.652; 0.756; 0.762 and 0.767, p<0.05). SPAD index can be used for nutritional N diagnosis purpose in peach when readings are taken between the 13th and 15th weeks after full bloom. In the range between 39 and 49, the SPAD index indicates the leaf N content is included in “normal” class (33 – 45 g kg-1) of agronomic interpretation for the States of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Resumo Entre os fatores que afetam a produtividade dos pessegueiros, está a nutrição adequada das plantas, sendo o nitrogênio (N) um dos nutrientes primordiais para a cultura. Deste modo, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da adubação nitrogenada de manutenção nos teores foliares de macronutrientes, no crescimento das plantas e na produção de diferentes genótipos de pessegueiros cultivados em alta densidade de plantio, buscando-se recomendar a concentração mais adequada. O experimento foi conduzido entre 2016 e 2018, com seleções avançadas de pessegueiros ‘Cascata 1513’ e ‘Cascata 1067’, e com concentrações de adubação nitrogenada (0; 60; 120 e 180 kg ha-1 de N). Avaliaram-se: massa de poda, diâmetro de tronco, número de frutos por planta, massa dos frutos, produção por planta e teor de macronutrientes nas folhas. O incremento das concentrações de N aumenta o teor do N nas folhas. Para as condições deste experimento, a máxima produção por planta foi obtida para a maior dose de 180 kg ha de N.

Abstract Among the factors that affect peach productivity is the proper nutrition of plants, being nitrogen (N) one of the main nutrients for the crop. Thus, the objective of the current study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization on macronutrient leaf contents, plant development and production of different genotypes of peach trees cultivated at high planting density, seeking to recommend the most appropriate concentration. The experiment was conducted between 2016 and 2018 using peach selections ‘Cascata 1513’ and ‘Cascata 1067’ and with nitrogen fertilization concentrations (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1 of N). Pruning mass, trunk diameter, number of fruits per plant, average fruit mass, yield per plant, yield per hectare and leaf macronutrients were evaluated. The increase of N concentration increases the N content in leaves. For the conditions of this experiment the maximum production per plant was obtained for the highest dose of 180 Kg ha of N.

Resumo Na produção de pêssegos, o raleio é realizado convencionalmente nos frutos, de forma manual, necessitando ser realizada num curto período de tempo e com mão de obra especializada, o que eleva os custos operacionais desta prática. O raleio mecânico pode ser uma alternativa ao raleio manual de frutos. Deste modo, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do raleio mecânico em flores, com distintos equipamentos, em seleções avançadas de pessegueiros. O experimento foi conduzido nos anos de 2016 e 2017, combinando-se seleções avançadas de pessegueiros e métodos de raleio. As variáveis avaliadas foram: percentagem de raleio de flores, tempo de raleio, número de frutos por planta, produção por planta, produção estimada, massa média dos frutos e classe de diâmetro dos frutos. O raleio mecânico de flores altera os índices produtivos dos pessegueiros. O raleio mecânico em pessegueiros foi eficiente no raleio de flores e reduziu o tempo de execução da prática. Portanto, o raleio mecânico de flores é uma alternativa ao raleio manual de frutos de pessegueiros.

Abstract In cultivation of peaches, thinning is conventionally performed on fruits by hand, and needs to be done in a short time and with specialized labor, which increases the operational costs of this practice. Mechanical thinning can be an alternative to manual fruit thinning. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of mechanical flower thinning with different equipment in advanced peach orchard. The experiment was conducted in 2016 and 2017, combining advanced selections of peach trees and thinning methods. The evaluated variables were percentage of flowers thinning, thinning time, fruit number per plant, plant production, estimated yield, average fruit mass and fruit diameter class. Flower mechanic thinning alters the yield index of peach trees. Mechanical thinning on peach trees was efficient in flower thinning and reduced the practice execution time. Therefore, mechanical thinning is an alternative to the manual fruit thinning of peach trees.
