abstract The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of two recovery periods between consecutive and non-consecutive days in strength training sessions on hormonal, neuromuscular and morphological variables in recreationally trained men. Nineteen young men completed the study and were randomly divided into two groups: 24R, 24-hour recovery group (n = nine) and 72R, 72-hour recovery group (n = ten). The strength training program (RT) lasted six weeks with two serial routines, with a weekly frequency of four times. The saliva sample was collected once a week in the morning to determine salivary testosterone. The 1RM, jump against movement and body composition tests were performed in the pre- and post-training periods. As for salivary testosterone, there was no significant effect with respect to time and between groups. Both groups improved maximal strength in terms of intervention time in the barbell bench press and in the leg press 45º, not differing between groups and body composition showed significant interaction in time to body fat percentage ∆% = -14.6 ± 10.0 (24R) and -17.2 ± 10.9 (72R); p = 0.00, fat mass ∆% = -13, 7 ± 9.2 (24R) and -18.2 ± 13.0 (72R); p = 0.00 and fat-free mass ∆% = 3.5 ± 2.7 (24R) and 2.5 ± 2 .8 (72R), p = 0.00. The recovery periods 24 and 72 hours between sessions induced similar responses in the parameters investigated in recreationally strength-trained men.

resumo O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar o efeito de dois períodos de recuperação entre dias consecutivos e não consecutivos em sessões de treinamento de força sobre variáveis hormonais, neuromusculares e morfológicas em homens treinados recreacionalmente. Dezenove homens jovens completaram o estudo e foram divididos aleatoriamente em dois grupos: 24R, grupo de recuperação de 24 horas (n = nove) e 72R, grupo de recuperação de 72 horas (n = dez). O programa de treinamento de força (TF) durou seis semanas com duas rotinas seriadas, com frequência semanal de quatro vezes. A amostra de saliva foi coletada uma vez por semana no período da manhã para determinação da testosterona salivar. Os testes de 1RM, salto contra movimento e composição corporal foram realizados nos períodos pré e pós-treinamento. Quanto à testosterona salivar, não houve efeito significativo em relação ao tempo e entre os grupos. Ambos os grupos melhoraram a força máxima em termos de tempo de intervenção no supino reto com barra e no leg press 45º, não diferindo entre os grupos e composição corporal apresentaram interação significativa no tempo para percentual de gordura corporal ∆% = -14,6 ± 10,0 (24R) e -17,2 ± 10,9 (72R); p = 0,00, massa gorda ∆% = -13, 7 ± 9,2 (24R) e -18,2 ± 13,0 (72R); p = 0,00 e massa isenta de gordura ∆% = 3,5 ± 2,7 (24R) e 2,5 ± 2,8 (72R), p = 0,00. Os períodos de recuperação de 24 e 72 horas entre as sessões induziram respostas semelhantes nos parâmetros investigados em homens treinados de força recreacionalmente.

Resumo Fundamento A galectina-3 (Gal-3) é uma molécula pró-inflamatória e pró-fibrótica, envolvida na patogênese da insuficiência cardíaca. O papel da Gal-3 em pacientes com pericardite constritiva crônica (PCC) não está claro. Objetivo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os níveis de Gal-3 em pacientes com PCC e correlacioná-los com parâmetros clínicos, funcionais e histológicos. Métodos Nós avaliamos prospectivamente 25 pacientes sintomáticos com PCC agendados à pericardiectomia e 21 controles sadios. Os pacientes foram submetidos à avaliação clínica, medidas de Gal-3 e peptídeo natriurético do tipo B (BNP), ecocardiografia, ressonância magnética cardíaca e teste cardiopulmonar de exercício (TCPE) no período basal. Seis meses após a pericardiectomia, repetiu-se o TCPE. Um erro alfa < 5% foi considerado estatisticamente significativo, com um intervalo de confiança de 95%. Resultados Foram incluídos 25 pacientes com idade mediana de 45 anos. A etiologia foi principalmente idiopática (n = 19, 76%), e 14 (56%) apresentaram classe funcional New York Heart Association (NYHA) III/IV. Os valores medianos de BNP e Gal-3 foram 143 (89-209) pg/dL e 14,8 (9,7-17,2) ng/mL, respectivamente. Os níveis de Gal-3 não foram estatisticamente maiores nos pacientes com PCC que em controles (p = 0,22). Não foram encontradas correlações significativas da Gal-3 com BNP, medidas ecocardiográficas e de ressonância magnética cardíaca, e achados histológicos. Após a pericardiectomia, encontrou-se uma correlação estatisticamente significativa entre Gal-3 e medidas do TCPE – duração do teste (r = –0,79; p < 0,001) e tempo de exercício (r = –0,79; p < 0,001). Conclusões Pacientes com PCC apresentaram níveis normais de Gal-3, quando comparados aos indivíduos controles. A Gal-3 não se correlacionou com medidas morfológicas e funcionais antes da pericardiectomia. No entanto, associações entre Gal-3 e intolerância ao exercício após pericardiectomia pode sugerir um papel da Gal-3 na predição de prognóstico após a pericardiectomia. Abstract Background Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a proinflammatory, profibrotic molecule implicated in the pathogenesis of heart failure. The role of Gal-3 in patients with chronic constrictive pericarditis (CCP) is not clear. Objective The aim of this study was to assess plasma Gal-3 in patients with CCP and correlate it with clinical, functional and histologic parameters. Methods We prospectively evaluated 25 symptomatic patients with CCP referred for pericardiectomy and 21 healthy controls. Patients underwent clinical assessment, Gal-3 and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) measurements, echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) at baseline. Six months after pericardiectomy CPET was repeated. An alpha error < 5% was considered statistically significant, with a confidence interval of 95%. Results Twenty-five patients with a median age of 45 years were included. Etiology was mainly idiopathic (n = 19, 76%); and 14 (56%) patients had NYHA functional class III/IV. Median BNP and Gal-3 were 143 (89-209) pg/dL and 14.8 (9.7-17.2) ng/mL, respectively. Gal-3 levels were not significantly higher in CCP patients than in control (p = 0.22). There were no significant correlations of Gal-3 with BNP, echocardiographic and cardiac magnetic resonance measures and histological findings. After pericardiectomy, it was found a statistically significant correlation between Gal-3 and the CPTE measures test duration (r = –0.79; p < 0.001) and exercise time (r = –0.79; p < 0.001). Conclusions Patients with CCP had normal levels of Gal-3 as compared to the controls. Gal-3 did not correlate with morphological and functional measures before pericardiectomy. However, the associations between Gal-3 and exercise intolerance after pericardiectomy may suggest a role of Gal-3 in prognosis prediction after pericardiectomy. In this work, we report the preparation of a copper-silica material (Cu/SiO2) by a sol-gel methodology and its characterization concerning composition and textural properties. The Cu/SiO2 material was successfully applied as a Lewis acid heterogeneous catalyst for the A3-coupling from 2-aminopyridine, aldehydes and alkynes to imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines (45-82%), which are relevant pharmacological scaffolds. The synthesis shows a number of advantages, such as easy separation from the reaction media and the minimal formation of metal aqueous wastes. Investigation of the mechanism supports the involvement of the formation of reaction intermediates inside the pores of the mesoporous material prior to 5-exo-dig cyclization.

Infecção por Acremonium é rara e pode estar associada com imunossupressão. Descrevemos um caso de infecção recorrente de pele por Acremonium após tratamento breve com voriconazol. Ressecção cirúrgica foi o tratamento definitivo. Terapia prolongada com antifúngicos e ressecção cirúrgica são discutidas para o tratamento de doenças fúngicas localizadas.

Acremonium infection is rare and associated with immunosuppression. A case of recurrent cutaneous Acremonium infection after short term voriconazole use is described. Surgical resection was the definitive therapy. Oral voriconazole was used in the treatment of Acremonium infection, but recurrence was associated with short therapy. Prolonged antifungal therapy and surgical resection are discussed for the treatment of localized lesions.
