Este estudio evalúa la susceptibilidad a corrosión sobre tensión (SSCC) y la fragilización por hidrógeno (HE), de soldaduras circunferenciales de acero API 5L-X80 producidos en Brasil. Ensayos de tracción con baja velocidad de deformación (SSRT) y ensayos de permeación de hidrógeno se realizaron a temperatura ambiente, en soluciones de tiosulfato de sodio, para simular diferentes ambientes ácidos. La susceptibilidad a la HE y potencialmente a SSCC se manifestó por la reducción de la ductilidad en los ensayos SSRT y el aumento en los valores de corriente de permeación de hidrógeno, para casi todas las uniones soldadas ensayadas. Se observó mayor susceptibilidad en las soluciones más ácidas (pH = 3,4), mientras que para las soluciones de ensayo menos ácidas (pH = 4,4) se observó poca pérdida de ductilidad y la corriente de permeación de hidrógeno se mantuvo en valores cercanos a cero, lo que indica poca o ninguna penetración de hidrógeno a través del metal para los tiempos de ensayo utilizados. Este comportamiento fue atribuido a la disolución anódica del Fe junto con la fragilización por hidrógeno. Se observó que el pH de la solución tiene mayor influencia que la concentración de H2S, en la susceptibilidad a SSCC y HE.

This study evaluates the susceptibility to sulphide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC) and hydrogen embrittlement (HE) of API 5L-X80 girth welds steel produced in Brazil. Tensile and low strain rate tests (SSRT) and hydrogen permeation tests were performed at room temperature in solutions of sodium thiosulfate, to simulate different acidic environments. The susceptibility to HE and potentially SSCC is manifested by the reduction in ductility in the SSRT tests and increased the values of hydrogen permeation current for almost all welds tested. Increased susceptibility was observed in more acidic solutions (pH = 3.4), while for the test solutions less acidic (pH = 4.4) was observed little loss of ductility and hydrogen permeation current was maintained at values close to zero, indicating little or no penetration of hydrogen through the metal for test times used. This behavior was attributed to the anodic dissolution of Fe with hydrogen embrittlement. It was observed that the pH of the solution has a greater influence than the concentration of H2S in the susceptibility to SSCC and HE.

Realizou-se um estudo comparativo entre os processos eletrodo revestido e arame tubular, considerando-se as propriedades mecânicas e microestruturais de metais de solda de aço de alta resistência, nas condições de como soldado e com tratamento térmico de alívio de tensões (TTAT). Os resultados mostram que os procedimentos adotados para soldagem com arame tubular e eletrodos revestidos possibilitaram obter níveis de resistência mecânica satisfatórios, com exceção do valor de alongamento percentual para o arame tubular, na condição de como soldado. Os ensaios de impacto mostram que ambos os metais de solda apresentam tenacidade ao impacto satisfatória, tanto na condição de como soldado quanto na de TTAT, observando-se que, para o arame tubular, a tenacidade ao impacto é inferior a do eletrodo revestido em ambas as condições, situando-se próximo ao limite do critério de aceitação aplicado de 50 joules a 0ºC, na condição de TTAT. Verificou-se que a produtividade propiciada pelo processo arame tubular foi aproximadamente duas vezes superior ao processo eletrodo revestido. Desta forma, a vantagem inerente ao processo arame tubular deve ser complementada pela consideração do conjunto das propriedades mecânicas obtidas, orientando a seleção adequada do processo de soldagem em particular para aplicação em equipamentos que operam sob condições de fadiga.

A comparative study of FCAW and SMAW processes was performed considering the mechanical and microstructural properties of high strength steel weld metals in the as welded and post weld heat treated (PWHT) conditions. The results showed that the welding procedures adopted for FCAW and SMAW processes produced satisfactory mechanical properties levels with exception of the percentage elongation for FCAW in the as welded condition. The impact test results show that both weld metals had good impact toughness in the as welded and PWHT conditions. It was observed that the FCAW weld metal showed lower impact toughness in relation to the SMAW weld metal in both conditions, being close to the lower acceptance limit of 50 joules at 0ºC for the PWHT condition. It was verified that the productivity offered by the FCAW process was about two times higher than that obtained by the SMAW process. The advantage inherent to the FCAW process must therefore be complimented by taking into consideration the overall mechanical properties obtained, thereby permitting an adequate selection of the most appropriate welding process, particularly when the structures operates under fatigue conditions.
