Abstract This work aimed to characterize some of the bioactive compounds of Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC. fruit to enhance the knowledge of its functional potential. Ripe fruits were collected from the restinga of Maricá, in the state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil. Bioactive compounds were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Ascorbic acid (74.14 mg 100-1 g-1), lycopene (504 µg g-1) and total carotenoids (632 µg g-1) contents were superior to other fruits rich in these compounds. In fact, E. punicifolia fruits are an excellent source of carotenoids and can be considered a good source of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Furthermore, its chemical composition has presented phenolic compounds like gallic acid and anthocyanins. Thus, this underutilized Brazilian fruit stands out as a source of bioactive compounds, presenting a good potential as a functional food, especially due to the high content of lycopene.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar alguns dos compostos bioativos do fruto da Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC. para aprofundar o conhecimento do seu potencial funcional. Frutos maduros foram coletados da restinga de Maricá-RJ, Brasil. Os compostos bioativos foram analisados por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência. Os teores de ácido ascórbico (74,14 mg 100-1 g-1), licopeno (504 µg g-1) e carotenoides totais (632 µg g-1) foram superiores aos de outras frutas ricas nesses compostos. Os frutos de E. punicifolia são uma excelente fonte de carotenoides e podem ser considerados uma boa fonte de ácido ascórbico (vitamina C). Além disso, sua composição química apresentou compostos fenólicos, como ácido gálico e antocianinas. Assim, essa fruta brasileira subutilizada se destaca como fonte de compostos bioativos, apresentando um bom potencial como alimento funcional, principalmente devido ao alto teor de licopeno.

ABSTRACT. The prevalence of cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD) is about 20% to 60%. The Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE) is the most used cognitive screening test. Objective: To evaluate the influence of clinical and demographic characteristics, specifically the education level, on the MMSE score in PD patients of a northeast Brazilian sample. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of 198 PD patients at a Movement Disorders outpatient clinic in Fortaleza, CE, Brazil. Participants were assessed by detailed clinical history, modified Hoehn and Yahr staging (HY), geriatric depression scale (GDS) and MMSE. Results: We found that 68% of patients had MMSE scores below the Brazilian thresholds, which were based in Brucki et al. study (2003). There was a statistically significant difference in the bivariate analysis between educational level and cut-off classification for MMSE. More years of formal schooling were associated with more patients scoring below threshold. We found that 75%, 68.8%, and 79.7% of individuals with more than 11, 9 to 11, and 4 to 8 years of formal schooling, respectively, were below the suggested Brazilian Brucki's threshold. GDS and age were negatively correlated with total MMSE and all its domains. There was no correlation between disease duration and MMSE. Subjects with hallucinations had lower scores. Conclusion: Most of the sample had lower performance according to Brazilian thresholds, but there was no control group and no neuropsychological test in this study. Further studies in northeast Brazil are needed to review MMSE cut-off values.

RESUMO. A prevalência de comprometimento cognitivo na doença de Parkinson (DP) é de cerca de 20 a 60%. O Miniexame do Estado Mental (MEEM) é o teste de rastreio cognitivo mais utilizado. Objetivo: Avaliar a influência de características clínicas e demográficas, especificamente a escolaridade, no escore do MEEM em pacientes com DP de uma amostra do nordeste brasileiro. Métodos: Realizamos um estudo transversal com 198 pacientes com DP em um ambulatório de Distúrbios do Movimento em Fortaleza. Os participantes foram avaliados por história clínica detalhada, estadiamento modificado de Hoehn e Yahr (HY), escala de depressão geriátrica (EDG) e MEEM. Resultados: Encontramos 68% dos pacientes com escores do MEEM abaixo dos limiares brasileiros baseados em estudo de Brucki et al. (2003). Houve diferença estatisticamente significativa na análise bivariada entre a escolaridade e a classificação de corte para o MEEM. Mais anos de escolaridade foram associados a mais pacientes com pontuação abaixo do limiar. Constatamos que 75, 68,8 e 79,7% dos indivíduos com mais de 11, nove a 11 e quatro a oito anos de escolaridade, respectivamente, estavam abaixo dos limiares sugeridos pelo estudo brasileiro de Brucki et al. (2003). A EDG e a idade correlacionaram-se negativamente com o MEEM total e todos os seus domínios. Não houve correlação entre a duração da doença e o MEEM. Indivíduos com alucinações tiveram pontuações mais baixas. Conclusão: A maioria da amostra apresentou desempenho inferior aos limiares, mas não houve grupo controle e nem teste neuropsicológico neste estudo. Mais estudos no nordeste do Brasil são necessários para revisar os valores de corte do MEEM.

RESUMO. Estima-se aumento na prevalência da doença de Parkinson (DP) em todo o mundo nas próximas décadas. Dessa forma, espera-se também aumento na incidência de quedas e seu impacto no sistema de saúde. Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar fatores clínicos e medicamentos associados a quedas em pacientes com DP. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo observacional transversal, realizado no ambulatório de Distúrbios do Movimento de hospital terciário no Brasil. Os dados sociodemográficos e clínicos foram coletados por meio de entrevista estruturada. A capacidade funcional foi avaliada pela Escala de Atividades de Vida Diária de Schwab e England e o estadiamento por Hoehn e Yahr modificado. A amostra foi dividida em não caidores (0 quedas) e caidores (≥1 queda) e não caidores recorrentes (≤1 queda) e caidores recorrentes (>1 queda). A informação sobre o número de quedas nos últimos seis meses foi confirmada com familiares e cuidadores. Resultados: A população do estudo foi de 327 pacientes (48% mulheres), com idade média de 70 anos e duração média da doença de 9,9±6,9 anos. As comorbidades mais prevalentes foram depressão (47,2%), hipertensão (44%) e diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (21,5%). A análise de regressão logística revelou que alucinações visuais, uso de amantadina e uso de entacapona foram independentemente associadas a quedas. Alucinações visuais, discinesia e uso de amantadina foram independentemente associados a quedas recorrentes neste estudo. Conclusões: Os profissionais de saúde desempenham um papel importante na prevenção de quedas em pacientes com DP, principalmente idosos que apresentam discinesia e alucinações visuais. Estudos prospectivos da amantadina devem ser realizados para investigar sua associação com quedas em pacientes com DP.

ABSTRACT. The prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD) tends to increase worldwide in the coming decades. Thus, the incidence of falls is likely to increase, with a relevant burden on the health care system. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate clinical factors and drug use associated with falls in PD patients. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study at the Movement Disorders outpatient clinic of a tertiary hospital in Northeast Brazil. We performed structured interviews to collect sociodemographic and clinical data. Functional capacity was assessed using the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale and the modified Hoehn and Yahr Staging Scale. We divided the study sample into non-fallers (no falls) and fallers (≥1 fall), and non-recurrent (≤1 fall) and recurrent fallers (>1 fall). Results: The study population comprised 327 PD patients (48% women), with a mean age of 70 years. The mean disease duration was 9.9±6.9 years. The most prevalent comorbidities were depression (47.2%), hypertension (44.0%), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (21.5%). The logistic regression analysis revealed that hallucinations, amantadine, and catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitors (entacapone) were independently associated with falls in PD patients. Also, hallucinations, dyskinesia, and the use of amantadine were independently associated with recurrent falls. Conclusions: Health care providers play an essential role in fall prevention in PD patients, particularly by identifying older adults experiencing dyskinesia and visual hallucinations. Prospective studies should investigate the use of amantadine as a risk factor for falls in PD patients.

RESUMO: Bovinos e equinos são os animais domésticos com maior incidência de raiva no Brasil. Este estudo avaliou formulários de solicitação de testes para raiva em herbívoros acompanhando amostras enviadas a um laboratório certificado de diagnóstico de raiva no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. As informações foram obtidas sistematicamente de todos os formulários enviados ao laboratório em 2013 e 2014 utilizando um instrumento de coleta que selecionou variáveis sobre o tipo de formulário utilizado, município de origem, descrição do animal suspeito, sinais clínicos, coleta de amostra e procedimento de conservação. As 11 variáveis mais relevantes (município de origem, coordenadas geográficas, espécie, gênero, raça, idade, tamanho do rebanho, sinais clínicos, persistência de sinais clínicos, material biológico e conservação da amostra) foram avaliadas quanto à qualidade dos dados inseridos, e os dados percentuais foram calculados por formulário. No total, 603 formulários foram enviados para o laboratório. O formulário mais utilizado foi o FORM SN, (82,0%, 497/603). Dados classificados como “excelentes” e “bons” foram observados apenas para uma variável que descreve a localização de casos suspeitos de raiva ou surtos e animais (espécie, gênero, material biológico). A qualidade da entrada dos dados das variáveis que descrevem coordenadas geográficas, idade, raça, tamanho do rebanho, sinais clínicos, persistência de sinais e método de conservação da amostra variou entre “regular” e “ruim”. A qualidade dos dados dos formulários de solicitação de testes para herbívoros não foi devidamente fornecida em casos suspeitos de síndromes neurológicas, apontando para a necessidade de aumentar a conscientização e melhorar o treinamento do pessoal de campo.

ABSTRACT: Bovines and equines are the domestic animals with the highest incidence of rabies in Brazil. This study evaluated the data input in testing request forms for rabies in herbivores accompanying samples sent to a certified laboratory of rabies diagnosis in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Information was obtained systematically from all forms sent to the laboratory in 2013 and 2014 using a collection instrument that listed variables about the kind of form used, municipality of origin, description of the suspected animal, clinical signs, sample collection, and conservation procedure. The 11 most relevant variables (municipality of origin, geographic coordinates, species, gender, breed, age, herd size, clinical signs, persistence of clinical signs, biological material, and sample conservation) were assessed for the quality of the data entered, and percentage data input was calculated per form. In total, 603 forms were sent to the laboratory. The most used form was the FORM SN, (82.0%, 497/603). “Excellent” and “good” data inputs were observed only for one variable describing the location of suspected rabies cases or outbreaks and animals (species, gender, biological material). Quality of data input of variables describing geographic coordinates, age, breed, herd size, clinical signs, persistence of signs, and sample conservation method varied between “average” and “poor”. The data input in testing request forms for herbivores are not dully supplied in suspected cases neurological syndromes, pointing to the need to increase awareness and improve training of field staff.

Anti-α-Gal responses may exert a protective effect in falciparum malaria. However, the biological role of such antibodies is still unknown during Plasmodium vivax infections. We investigated IgG and IgM responses to α-Gal in individuals with vivax malaria. Anti-α-Gal IgG and IgM levels were higher in these patients than in controls, but no significant correlation was found between parasitaemia and anti-α-Gal response, nor between this response and ABO blood group status. This is the first study to investigate anti-α-Gal antibodies in P. vivax-infected patients; a larger survey is necessary to achieve a better understanding of host immune response during vivax malaria.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se estudar os efeitos da administração sistêmica da acepromazina, do tramadol e da associação de ambos sobre a pressão intraocular (PIO) e o diâmetro pupilar (DP) em gatos saudáveis jovens. Os gatos foram aleatoriamente distribuídos em três grupos (n=10/cada) e tratados pela via intramuscular com acepromazina (GA), tramadol (GT) ou acepromazina combinada ao tramadol (GAT). O DP (paquimetria eletrônica) e a PIO (tonometria de aplanação) foram mensurados antes (basal) e após 15, 30, 60, e 120 minutos após a administração dos tratamentos. Constatou-se que no GA, o DP reduziu significativamente a partir do 30˚ até o 120˚ minuto de avaliação (P=0.02), mas sem diferir significativamente em relação ao basal (P=0,89). No GT, o DP se elevou significativamente desde 15˚ minuto, até o último período de avaliação (P˂0.001). No GAT, o DP se elevou de forma significativa do 30˚ ao 120˚ minuto em comparação ao basal (P<0,001), mas esse parâmetro não alterou significativamente do 30º ao 120º minuto (P=0.71). Comparações entre os grupos mostraram que o DP do GT e do GAT apresentaram valores significativamente mais elevados que aqueles do GA (P<0,05). A PIO, por sua vez, não se alterou de forma significativa nos períodos e entre os grupos avaliados (P>0,05). Conclui-se que o tramadol, administrado de forma isolada ou em associação à acepromazina, produz midríase de até 120 minutos, sem alterar os valores da PIO em gatos saudáveis. Dessa forma, esse protocolo pré-anestésico pode ser considerado uma alternativa para cirurgia oftálmica em gatos. Todavia, os resultados desse protocolo em gatos com doença oftálmica, que necessitem de cirurgia, devem ser avaliados em estudos futuros.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to investigate the effects of the systemic administration of acepromazine, tramadol and the association of both on intraocular pressure (IOP) and pupil diameter (PD) in young healthy cats. Cats were randomly allocated into three groups (n=10/each) and intramuscular acepromazine (AG), tramadol (TG) or acepromazine combined with tramadol (ATG) were injected. PD (electronic caliper) and IOP (applanation tonometry) were assessed before (baseline) and following 15, 30, 60, and 120 minutes of treatments. It was verified that in AG, PD decreased significantly from time point 30 to 120 (P=0.002), but such reduction did not differ significantly from baseline (P=0.89). In TG, PD increased significantly from the first 15 minutes, until the last time point of evaluation (P<0.001). In ATG, PD increased significantly from time point 30 to 120 when compared to baseline (P<0.001); but significant differences from time point 30 to 120 were not seen (P=0.71). Comparisons among groups showed that PD values of TG and ATG were significantly higher than that of AG (P<0.05). IOP values, on the other hand, did not change significantly among time points and groups (P>0.05). It can be concluded that tramadol alone or in association with acepromazine produced significant mydriasis for up to 120 minutes, without changing IOP values in normal cats. Results of this study suggested that tramadol alone or in association with acepromazine caused significant mydriasis and did not change IOP values in normal cats. Therefore, it may be considered a satisfactory pre-anesthetic combination for ophthalmic surgery in cats. However, further studies are warranted on the use of such protocols in cats with ophthalmic diseases undergoing ocular or intraocular surgery.

Abstract We report on four patients with fatal influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and dengue virus coinfections. Clinical, necropsy and histopathologic findings presented in all cases were characteristic of influenza-dengue coinfections, and all were laboratory-confirmed for both infections. The possibility of influenza and dengue coinfection should be considered in locations where these two viruses’ epidemic periods coincide to avoid fatal outcomes. Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by one of the four dengue viruses (DENV-1 to 4). Each of these viruses is capable of causing nonspecific febrile illnesses, classic dengue fever and dengue haemorrhagic fever (Gubler 1998). As a result, dengue is often difficult to diagnose clinically, especially because peak dengue season often coincides with that of other common febrile illnesses in tropical regions (Chacon et al. 2015). In April 2009, a new virus, inﬂuenza A/H1N1/pandemic (FluA/H1N1/09pdm), caused a severe outbreak in Mexico. The virus quickly spread throughout the world, and in June 2009, the World Health Organization declared a pandemic (WHO 2010). In Brazil, the first laboratory confirmed case of FluA/H1N1/09pdm was in July 2009 (Pires Neto et al. 2013). The state of Ceará, in Northeast Brazil, is a dengue endemic area. In this state, the virus influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 has circulated since 2009, and through the first half of 2012, 11 deaths caused by the virus were confirmed (Pires Neto et al. 2013). The influenza and dengue seasons in Ceará overlap, which led to diagnostic difficulties. We report four cases of laboratory-confirmed coinfection of deadly influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 with DENV, which occurred during the dengue and influenza season in 2012 and 2013 in Ceará.

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The dengue classification proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2009 is considered more sensitive than the classification proposed by the WHO in 1997. However, no study has assessed the ability of the WHO 2009 classification to identify dengue deaths among autopsied individuals suspected of having dengue. In the present study, we evaluated the ability of the WHO 2009 classification to identify dengue deaths among autopsied individuals suspected of having dengue in Northeast Brazil, where the disease is endemic. METHODS: This retrospective study included 121 autopsied individuals suspected of having dengue in Northeast Brazil during the epidemics of 2011 and 2012. All the autopsied individuals included in this study were confirmed to have dengue based on the findings of laboratory examinations. RESULTS: The median age of the autopsied individuals was 34 years (range, 1 month to 93 years), and 54.5% of the individuals were males. According to the WHO 1997 classification, 9.1% (11/121) of the cases were classified as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and 3.3% (4/121) as dengue shock syndrome. The remaining 87.6% (106/121) of the cases were classified as dengue with complications. According to the 2009 classification, 100% (121/121) of the cases were classified as severe dengue. The absence of plasma leakage (58.5%) and platelet counts <100,000/mm3 (47.2%) were the most frequent reasons for the inability to classify cases as DHF. CONCLUSIONS: The WHO 2009 classification is more sensitive than the WHO 1997 classification for identifying dengue deaths among autopsied individuals suspected of having dengue.

A pseudoraiva (PR) é uma enfermidade viral responsável por consideráveis perdas econômicas na indústria de suínos. O vírus da pseudoraiva (PrV) apresenta apenas um sorotipo, mas, por análise de restrição enzimática, foi classificado em quatro genótipos denominados I, II, III e IV. Os métodos usados para genotipagem dependem do isolamento do vírus, da purificação do DNA viral, da restrição enzimática do genoma completo e da visualização após eletroforese. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estabelecer um método mais rápido e sensível para detectar e genotipar o PrV por nested-PCR e análise de restrição enzimática. Vinte isolados do PrV das regiões Sul e Sudeste do Brasil e a estirpe padrão Shope foram replicadas em células PK-15 e submetidas à nested-PCR para o gene da glicoproteína E. Além desses vírus previamente isolados, foram avaliadas 75 amostras clínicas de cérebro de suíno em um total de 25 animais positivos para a PR no isolamento e na soroneutralização viral e 50 amostras negativas provenientes de animais negativos na soroneutralização viral e de granjas sem histórico de PR. Todas as amostras clínicas tiveram resultados compatíveis com o isolamento e a soroneutralização, e a totalidade das amostras positivas foi classificada como genótipo II. A sensibilidade analítica da nested-PCR foi de 10-1,3 TCID50 mL-1. A combinação da nested-PCR e da restrição enzimática foi capaz de detectar e genotipar o vírus com resultados em um a dois dias, sendo mais rápida que os métodos convencionais de restrição do genoma completo que podem demorar até sete dias.

Pseudorabies is a disease caused by Suid herpesvirus 1 (PrV) and is responsible for considerable economic losses in the swine industry. The PrV has only one serotype, but based on RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) the virus was divided into four genotypes named I, II, III, IV. The classical methods for PrV genotyping usually require virus isolation, DNA purification enzyme restriction analysis and a long electrophoresis. The aim of this research was to describe a faster and more sensitive method to detect and genotype PrV based on nested-PCR and restriction enzyme analysis. Twenty PrV isolates from south and southeast regions of Brazil, and the standard strain Shope were grown in PK-15 cells and submitted to PCR for glycoprotein E gene amplification. Additionally were tested 75 clinical samples (swine brain), with 25 positives for virus isolation and seroneutralization, and 50 negatives from a flock free PR with negative results in seroneutralization test. There was 100% of agreement between results of nested-PCR and virus isolation and seroneutralization and all samples detected were classified as genotype II. The nested-PCR, combined with restriction enzyme analysis, was able to detect and genotype PrV in 1-2 days with a sensitivity of 10-1,3 TCID50 mL-1. It was faster than classical methods described in the literature that require at least 7 days to be completed.

O emprego, como categoria de trabalho formal, ocupa grande parte dos trabalhadores no Brasil; por isso, o desemprego é uma questão social central e atual para a discussão no cenário brasileiro. Portanto, defende-se que o fenômeno do desemprego pode ser investigado por meio de um processo de produção de sentidos, tendo por base os sujeitos sociais. Para tanto, adotaram-se as abordagens do Construcionismo Social e a análise das práticas discursivas como possibilidade teóricometodológica para o estudo. Desenvolveu-se a argumentação com o aporte de uma pesquisa empírica, realizada na Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil, com o objetivo de compreender o processo de produção de sentidos acerca do fenômeno do desemprego, considerando as práticas discursivas de sujeitos envolvidos com esse fenômeno. Foram identificados quatro repertórios discursivos: condição de empregado(a); mudanças nas configurações do emprego no setor industrial; condição de não-empregado(a); e, condição de trabalhador(a). Desse modo, este estudo contribui para o avanço do debate teórico-metodológico acerca dos estudos sobre a realidade do trabalho/ desemprego.

The employment as an, category of refistered work, takes up a large part of the workforce in Brazil, therefore, unemployment is a important and current matter of discussion in the Brazilian context. The unemployment maybe better comprehended as a social and historical development, involving the social subjects and the condition they work. For this, rejoicing concepts of the constructionism approach and analysis of the discursive practices. An argument was developed with the empirical research, made in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais, Brasil, with the goal of comprehending the production process of senses in the unemployment phenomenon, from the discursive practices of the involved subjects. There were four repertoires identified: the refistered worker's condition; changes in the industrial work configuration; the unemploymest's condition; and the unregistered worker's conditions. This study can help to advance in a theoretical and methodological debate account the studies about the reality of work/employment.

Biomaterials (composites and blends) play a major role in the health of modern society. This paper reports on the preparation and characterization of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) composites, analyzing the incorporation of HAP in PVDF and investigating their mechanical properties and cytotoxicity (biocompatibility) for use in bone restoration and filling. The material was prepared in film form by the casting method. PVDF pellets were dissolved in dimethylacetamide (DMA), a HAP/DMA emulsion was prepared. The materials were mixed in proportions of 100/00, 90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 60/40, 50/50, 40/60, 30/70 in weight and left to dry in an oven, resulting in homogeneous, flexible films which were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X ray diffractometry (XRD), contact angle measurement, and by mechanical and cytotoxicity tests.

Um ensaio imunoenzimático do tipo ELISA indireto (ELISA-I) foi desenvolvido e padronizado para o diagnóstico sorológico de peste suína clássica. Na comparação foram utilizadas novecentas e trinta e sete amostras de soros suínos, as quais foram testadas pelo teste de soroneutralização seguido de revelação por imunoperoxidase (NPLA), tomado como padrão, resultando em 223 amostras positivas e 714 negativas. Em relação ao NPLA, o ELISA-I apresentou sensibilidade de 98,21%, especificidade de 92,86%, valor preditivo positivo de 81,11%, valor preditivo negativo de 99,4% e precisão de 94,1%. A análise estatística dos resultados revelou uma correlação muito forte (r=0,94) entre os dois testes. Quando comparado com um "kit" de ELISA disponível comercialmente, a performance de ambos em relação ao NPLA foi similar. Concluiu-se que o ELISA-I é um teste apropriado para triagem em larga escala de soros para a detecção de anticorpos contra o Vírus da Peste Suína Clássica (VPSC), embora não seja capaz de diferenciar entre anticorpos induzidos pelo VPSC ou outros pestivírus.

An indirect enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA-I) was developed and standardized for the serological diagnosis of classical swine fever (CSF). For the comparison, nine hundred and thirty-seven swine serum samples were tested by serum neutralization followed by immunoperoxidase staining (NPLA), considered as the standard. Of these, 223 were positive and 714 negative for neutralizing antibodies to classical swine fever virus (CSFV). In relation to the NPLA, the ELISA-I presented a 98.2% sensitivity; 92.86% specificity, 81.11% positive predictive value, 99.4% negative predictive value and a 94.1% precision. Statistical analysis showed a very strong correlation (r=0,94) between both tests. When compared to a commercially available ELISA kit, the performance of both, in relation to the NPLA, was similar. It was concluded that the ELISA-I is suitable for large scale screening of antibodies to classical swine fever virus, although it does not distinguish antibodies to classical swine fever virus from those induced by other pestiviruses.
