Abstract Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are important aspects of the disease’s pathogenesis and prognosis. Evidence on the prognostic role of troponin and myocardial injury in Latin American hospitalized COVID-19 patients is still scarce. Objectives To evaluate myocardial injury as independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized patients, from the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry. Methods This cohort study is a substudy of the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry, conducted in 31 Brazilian hospitals of 17 cities, March-September 2020. Primary outcomes included in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support. Models for the primary outcomes were estimated by Poisson regression with robust variance, with statistical significance of p<0.05. Results Of 2,925 patients (median age of 60 years [48-71], 57.1% men), 27.3% presented myocardial injury. The proportion of patients with comorbidities was higher among patients with cardiac injury (median 2 [1-2] vs. 1 [0-2]). Patients with myocardial injury had higher median levels of brain natriuretic peptide, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and C-reactive protein than patients without myocardial injury. As independent predictors, C-reactive protein and platelet counts were related to the risk of death, and neutrophils and platelet counts were related to the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation support. Patients with high troponin levels presented a higher risk of death (RR 2.03, 95% CI 1.60-2.58) and invasive mechanical ventilation support (RR 1.87, 95% CI 1.57-2.23), when compared to those with normal troponin levels. Conclusion Cardiac injury was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Resumo Fundamento As complicações cardiovasculares da COVID-19 são aspectos importantes da patogênese e do prognóstico da doença. Evidências do papel prognóstico da troponina e da lesão miocárdica em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 na América Latina são ainda escassos. Objetivos Avaliar a lesão miocárdica como preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados, do registro brasileiro de COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo coorte é um subestudo do registro brasileiro de COVID-19, conduzido em 31 hospitais brasileiros de 17 cidades, de março a setembro de 2020. Os desfechos primários incluíram mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os modelos para os desfechos primários foram estimados por regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, com significância estatística de p<0,05. Resultados Dos 2925 pacientes [idade mediana de 60 anos (48-71), 57,1%], 27,3% apresentaram lesão miocárdica. A proporção de pacientes com comorbidades foi maior nos pacientes com lesão miocárdica [mediana 2 (1-2) vs. 1 (0-20)]. Os pacientes com lesão miocárdica apresentaram maiores valores medianos de peptídeo natriurético cerebral, lactato desidrogenase, creatina fosfoquinase, N-terminal do pró-peptídeo natriurético tipo B e proteína C reativa em comparação a pacientes sem lesão miocárdica. Como fatores independentes, proteína C reativa e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados com o risco de morte, e neutrófilos e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados ao risco de suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os pacientes com níveis elevados de troponina apresentaram um maior risco de morte (RR 2,03, IC95% 1,60-2,58) e suporte ventilatório mecânico (RR 1,87;IC95% 1,57-2,23), em comparação àqueles com níveis de troponina normais. Conclusão Lesão cardíaca foi um preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e necessidade de suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19.

Abstract. This research aimed to analyze the experiences of social insertion of Syrian men in temporary refuge situation in Brazil. Data were collected through individual interviews conducted online and the sample consisted of 10 Syrian men in temporary refuge situation in Brazil for more than four years, aged between 25 and 43. Data processing was carried out through content analysis. The results showed thematic categories that refer to: (i) interpersonal relationships, including friendship, romantic and family relationships, and relations with Brazilians; (ii) work, in Brazil and Syria; (iii) religion, with focus on conflicts, religious groups, and participants’ (dis)beliefs; and (iv) prejudice and stereotypes, which result in discrimination. The social insertion processes were discussed according to the thematic dimensions central to the life context of these individuals in refuge situations.

Resumo. Esta pesquisa objetivou analisar experiências de inserção social de homens sírios em situação de refúgio no Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas individuais realizadas on-line e a amostra foi composta por 10 homens sírios em situação de refúgio no Brasil há mais de quatro anos, com idades entre 25 e 43 anos. O tratamento dos dados foi realizado por meio da análise de conteúdo. Os resultados evidenciaram categorias temáticas que se referem a: (i) relações interpessoais, incluindo amizade, relacionamentos amoroso, familiar e com brasileiros, além de elementos sobre como o idioma interfere nessas relações; (ii) trabalho, no Brasil e na Síria; (iii) religião, com enfoque nos conflitos, nos grupos religiosos e nas (des)crenças dos participantes; e (iv) preconceitos e estereótipos, que resultam em discriminações. Discutem-se os processos de inserção social em função das dimensões temáticas centrais ao contexto de vida desses indivíduos em situação de refúgio.

Resumo Este estudo objetivou analisar representações sociais de migração/migrantes veiculadas pelo jornal Folha de São Paulo no ano de 2020, marcado pela pandemia de COVID-19. Foram analisadas 839 matérias, com o auxílio do software Iramuteq, a partir da Classificação Hierárquica Descendente. Identificaram-se seis classes lexicais, que abordaram as migrações tanto como uma questão política, envolvendo debates sobre aspectos econômicos e de segurança, quanto como uma experiência humana, a partir das vivências de migrantes em diferentes contextos. Os resultados permitiram evidenciar como, por um lado, a pandemia de COVID-19 aprofundou desigualdades pré-existentes e intensificou práticas discriminatórias dirigidas aos migrantes. E como, por outro lado, aliada a outros “eventos-chave”, como eleições estadunidenses e protestos antirracistas, estimulou debates sobre preconceito e discriminação com relação a diferentes grupos minoritários, indicando que o caminho para a superação dessa crise e para a atenuação dos conflitos intergrupais por ela exacerbados passa pela inclusão de todos, inclusive migrantes.

Abstract This study aimed at analysing social representations of migration/migrants conveyed by the newspaper Folha de São Paulo in 2020, a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. We analysed 839 news articles with the software Iramuteq, by means of the Descending Hierarchical Classification. We identified six lexical clusters, which addressed migration both as a political matter, involving debates on economic and security issues, and as a human experience, based on the life experiences of migrants in different contexts. The results showed how, on the one hand, the COVID-19 pandemic deepened pre-existing inequalities and intensified discriminatory practices against migrants. And how, on the other hand, combined with other “key events”, such as the US election and the anti-racism protests, it stimulated debates about prejudice and discrimination towards different minority groups, indicating that the path to overcome this crisis and to mitigate the intergroup conflicts exacerbated by it entails the inclusion of all, including migrants.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the influence of parental depression and substance use in the oral health care of children with disabilities. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 151 children with disabilities and their parents/caregivers. To detect the presence of depression and alcohol or tobacco use, the parents/caregivers answered three questionnaires: two versions of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ), AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), and the Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND). Then, the children with disabilities underwent oral examination to evaluate biofilm control, gingival condition and the dental carie index (decayed, missing, and filled teeth - dmft ̸ DMFT). Results: There was a statistically significant association between tobacco use and dental caries in deciduous teeth (p=0.046). The children of smokers had six times greater need for dental treatment than that of non-smokers (OR= 6.36; CI= 1.3-30.5). There was no statistically significant association between the oral health of the children with disabilities and parental alcohol consumption and depression (p>0.05). Children with medical condition had a higher need for dental treatment than children with intellectual disability (p=0.003). Conclusion: Parental smoking habits increase dental caries in the deciduous teeth of children with disabilities, but parental depression and alcohol use do not influence the oral health of children with disabilities. Children with medical condition have more treatment needs than children with intellectual disability.

Resumo A música tem sido discutida como fator promotor da saúde do idoso. Em um estudo randomizado, uma intervenção baseada em exercícios de percussão e improvisação foi comparada a uma atividade de canto coral. O objetivo foi investigar os efeitos sobre o funcionamento executivo e motor de idosos saudáveis. Um conjunto de instrumentos de avaliação psicológica e motora foi aplicado antes e depois da intervenção. Foram encontradas diferenças no desempenho do grupo de improvisação no Teste de Desenho do Relógio sugerindo possíveis ganhos executivos. Houve ganhos independentes de grupo na parte A do Teste de Trilhas, que avalia a atenção sustentada. Não foram verificadas evidências de efeitos motores. Os resultados indicam que atividades musicais podem contribuir na prevenção do declínio cognitivo decorrente do envelhecimento.

Abstract Music has been debated as a positive factor for the health of elderly people. In a randomized study, the researchers compared an intervention based on percussion and musical improvisation with a choir activity. The objective was to investigate whether improvisation would influence the executive functioning and motor skills of healthy elderly people. A set of instruments for psychological and motor assessment was used before and after the procedure. Differences were found in the performance of the participants of the improvisation group in the Clock Drawing Test suggesting possible gains in executive function. There were gains, regardless of the group, in part A of the Trail Making Test, which indicates a sustained attention. No evidence of motor effects was found in this study. The results suggest that musical activities can contribute to the prevention of cognitive decline caused by aging.

Neste artigo discutem-se as contribuições dos Estudos Culturais e da Psicologia Social para as reflexões acerca dos desafios inerentes à promoção do diálogo intercultural na Europa, no contexto atual de relações intergrupais entre diversos Outros, propiciado por fatores como a intensificação dos fluxos migratórios e o avanço das tecnologias da informação e da comunicação. Para tanto, realizam-se articulações entre conceitos e categorias a partir de diferentes perspectivas teóricas nestes campos, de forma a associar discussões sobre processos identitários, alteridade, representações sociais, memória coletiva, assimetrias simbólicas, colonialidade do poder, do ser e do saber, a fim de (re)iniciar alguns debates sobre fenômenos complexos que se entrelaçam na construção do diálogo intercultural. Dessa forma, apresentam-se, ainda, diferentes concepções acerca dos conceitos de multiculturalismo e de interculturalidade, advogando-se a importância de uma perspectiva crítica na compreensão da interculturalidade, que a perceba como um projeto que parte das experiências dos "subalternos", a fim de buscar a transformação das estruturas sociais, institucionais e epistêmicas, (re)criando diferentes formas de ser, estar, de se relacionar, que impliquem não apenas o mero reconhecimento e tolerância de outras culturas, mas também a sua valorização, em diálogo e transformação mútuos.

This paper discusses the contributions of Cultural Studies and Social Psychology to the debates on the challenges inherent to the promotion of intercultural dialogue in Europe, in the current context of intergroup relations among several Others, facilitated by factors such as the intensification of migratory flows and the enhancement of information and communication technologies. To this end, we associate concepts and categories from different theoretical perspectives in these fields, in order to articulate discussions about identity processes, alterity, social representations, collective memory, symbolic asymmetries, coloniality of power, being and knowledge, to (re)initiate debates on complex phenomena that are intertwined in the development of intercultural dialogue. Therefore, different understandings about the concepts of multiculturalism and interculturality are presented, advocating the importance of a critical perspective in the understanding of interculturality, conceiving it as a project that starts from the experiences of the "subalterns", in order to seek the transformation of social, institutional and epistemic structures. This perspective allows people to (re)create different ways of being and relating to others, implying not only the mere recognition and tolerance of other cultures, but also their appreciation, in mutual dialogue and transformation.

Este artigo discute a formação em Psicologia a partir de uma experiência de estágio interdisciplinar de vivência, o projeto VER-SUS (Vivência e Estágio na Realidade do Sistema Único de Saúde), realizado por estudantes da área da saúde junto ao movimento estudantil desses cursos. A partir dessa experiência, ocorrida em 2008, no estado do Espírito Santo (VER-SUS/ES 2008), problematizamos a formação do psicólogo, afirmando a importância de ampliar a associação entre o ensino tradicional e ações que remetam às vivências interdisciplinares. Estas mesmas se configuram como estratégias de ensino-aprendizagem fundamentais para a Psicologia e para a área da saúde como um todo. Por fim, ressaltamos a importância da constante revisão das práticas, da formação e do papel do psicólogo, para pensarmos sobre outras formas de aprendizagem e diálogo ao longo do ensino superior.

This article discusses the formation in Psychology from an experience of interdisciplinary internship, the project VER-SUS (Internship and Experience on the Unified Health System’s Reality) made by students in the health area with the students’ movement of these courses. From this experience, which occurred in 2008, in the state of Espírito Santo (VER-SUS/ES 2008), we discuss the formation of the psychologist, stating the importance of expanding the association between traditional teaching and actions referring to interdisciplinary experiences. These experiences take shape as fundamental teaching-learning strategies to Psychology and health area as a whole. Finally, we emphasize the importance of the constant review of the practices, of the instruction and of the role of the psychologist in thinking of other ways of learning and dialogue through undergraduation.

Este artículo discute la formación en Psicología a partir de una experiencia de prácticas interdisciplinarias de vivencia, el proyecto VER-SUS (Vivencia y prácticas en la Realidad del Sistema Único de Salud) realizado por estudiantes del área de la salud junto al Movimiento Estudiantil de estos cursos. A partir de esa experiencia, ocurrida en 2008, en el Estado de Espírito Santo (VER-SUS/ES 2008), problematizamos la formación del psicólogo, afirmando la importancia de ampliar la asociación entre la enseñanza tradicional y acciones que remitan a las vivencias interdisciplinarias. Estas mismas se configuran como estrategias de enseñanza-aprendizaje fundamentales para la Psicología y para el área de la salud como un todo. Por fin, resaltamos la importancia de la constante revisión de las prácticas, de la formación y del papel del psicólogo, para pensar otras formas de aprendizaje y diálogo a lo largo de la enseñanza superior.

Through the Theory of Social Identity our objective was to know the stereotypes present in the rural imaginary related to the gypsy group, and the feelings associated with this ethnic group. Ten women, non-gypsies, residents of a rural Brazilian community, participated in this study. We analyzed the data through the ALCESTE software. The analysis of the information obtained has allowed us to identify the feeling of fear as the main mediator of practices related to the gypsies, confirming characteristics widely present in the social imaginary about this ethnic group. There are present the classic stereotypes of thieves, criminals and the cursed. It discusses the dynamics of identity provoked by the conflict between the rural community and the gypsies, emphasizing the processes that guide the field of identification and differentiation in/out-group.

Através da Teoria da Identidade Social procurou-se conhecer os estereótipos presentes no imaginário rural associados ao grupo cigano, bem como os sentimentos associados a esta etnia. Foram entrevistadas 10 mulheres não-ciganas, moradoras de uma comunidade rural brasileira. Realizou-se a organização dos dados através do software ALCESTE. A análise das informações nos permitiu identificar o sentimento de medo como importante orientador das práticas relacionadas aos ciganos, confirmando características presentes no imaginário social amplamente difundido acerca desta etnia. Estão presentes os clássicos estereótipos de ladrões, malfeitores e amaldiçoados. Discute-se a dinâmica identitária provocada pelo conflito entre a comunidade rural e os ciganos, enfatizando os processos que orientam o campo de identificação e diferenciação endo/exogrupal.

This study aimed to know how gypsy men and women produce their ethnic identity through the relationship they establish between their community and the non-gypsy world. For that, 07 gypsy men and 10 gypsy women participated in this research. Individual interviews have been carried out with semistructured script and the data analysis was done using the software ALCESTE and the Content Analysis. The results have demonstrated that the gypsy culture has singular aspects, with two apparently fundamental pillars for their structuring -parental relationship and gender subjects. Applying dynamics to those dimensions, we find other important themes in the organization of this ethnic group, like religious beliefs, respect to the elderly, fidelity to the agreements and control of the female virginity until marriage.

Este estudio tuvo por objetivo saber como hombres y mujeres gitanas construyen su identidad étnica a través de las relaciones establecidas entre esta comunidad y grupos no-gitanos. Para ello, participaron de la investigación 07 hombres y 10 mujeres gitanas. Se realizaron entrevistas individuales con un guión semi-estructurado y se hizo el análisis de los datos por medio del software ALCESTE y del análisis del contenido. Los resultados demostraron que la cultura gitana posee aspectos singulares, con dos pilares aparentemente fundamentales para su estructuración -relaciones parentales y relacionesde género. Al dinamizar esas dimensiones, encontramos otras características importantes, como creencias religiosas, respeto por los ancianos, fidelidad en los acuerdos realizados y control de la virginidad femenina hasta el matrimonio.

Este estudo objetivou conhecer como homens e mulheres ciganos constroem sua identidade étnica através das relações estabelecidas entre essa comunidade e grupos não-ciganos. Participaram da pesquisa 07 homens e 10 mulheres ciganas. Foram realizadas entrevistas individuais com roteiro semi¬estruturado e procedeu-se a análise dos dados através do software ALCESTE e da Análise de Conteúdo. Os resultados demonstraram que a cultura cigana possui aspectos singulares, com dois pilares aparentemente fundamentais para sua estruturação -relações parentais e relações de gênero. Dinamizando essas dimensões, encontramos outras características importantes, como crenças religiosas, respeito aos mais velhos, fidelidade aos acordos firmados e controle da virgindade feminina até o casamento.
