RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a Qualidade de Vida de sujeitos com afasia participantes de um Grupo Interdisciplinar de Convivência. Método estudo transversal e quantitativo. Os participantes foram submetidos a dois questionários: um semiestruturado, desenvolvido para a caracterização dos sujeitos e o outro o World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale – Bref (WHOQOL-Bref) para identificação da Qualidade de Vida (QV) dos mesmos. A análise dos dados foi realizada de modo descritivo. Resultados Foram entrevistados oito sujeitos com idade entre 35 e 78 anos e escolaridade variando entre Ensino Fundamental Incompleto e Superior Incompleto. A ocupação predominante na amostra foi a de balconista e a renda variou entre um e quatro salários mínimos. O tempo de lesão cerebral variou de três a 10 anos, causada predominantemente por Acidentes Vasculares Cerebrais decorrentes de Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica. Quanto ao WHOQOL houve importante variação entre os sujeitos nos quatro domínios (físico, psicológico, social e ambiental). No entanto, a maioria pontuou acima de 70 pontos. Para todos os sujeitos, o Grupo de Convivência foi identificado como espaço de produção de vida e saúde sendo motivador para a busca de outros atendimentos. Conclusão Os sujeitos eram adultos e idosos pertencentes à classe econômica média baixa; apresentavam condições crônicas de saúde, comprometimento da expressão verbal e longo período de acompanhamento das necessidades de saúde. O WHOQOL-Bref revelou que cinco sujeitos perceberam suas condições de vida/saúde favoráveis, no entanto, destacaram convívio social reduzido. O Grupo de Convivência configurou-se como importante espaço para melhoria de QV.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the Quality of Life of subjects with aphasia participating in an Interdisciplinary Living Group. Methods cross-sectional and quantitative study. Convenience sample submitted to two questionnaires: a semi-structured one, developed exclusively for the characterization of the subjects and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale - Bref (WHOQOL-Bref) to identify their Quality of Life (QOL). Data analysis was descriptive. Results Eight subjects were interviewed, aged between 35 and 78 years and schooling between Incomplete Elementary School and Incomplete Higher Education. The predominant occupation was that of a clerk and the income varied between one and four minimum wages. The time of brain injury was from three to 10 years, caused predominantly by Stroke caused by Systemic Arterial Hypertension. As for WHOQOL, there was an important variation between the subjects in the four domains (physical, psychological, social and environmental). However, most scored above 70 points. For all subjects, the Living Group was identified as a space for the production of life and health, motivating them to seek other services. Conclusion The subjects were adults and elderly people belonging to the lower-middle class; presented chronic health conditions, impaired verbal expression and long monitoring time to their health needs. The WHOQOL-Bref revealed that five subjects perceived their favorable living/health conditions, however, they highlighted reduced social contact. The Living Group became an important space for improving QOL.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar a via auditiva em nível de tronco encefálico e cortical em indivíduos com disfunção vestibular periférica. Método Participaram do estudo 19 indivíduos, com idade entre 20 e 80 anos que possuíam exames vestibulares sugestivos de Disfunção Vestibular Periférica Deficitária (DVPD) ou Disfunção Vestibular (DV). Os participantes realizaram avaliação da via auditiva por meio dos Potenciais Evocados Auditivos de Tronco Encefálico (curta latência) e dos potenciais P1, N1, P2, N2 e P300 (longa latência). Resultados Nove indivíduos apresentaram diagnóstico de Disfunção Vestibular e 10 de Disfunção Vestibular Periférica Deficitária. A média geral dos potenciais de longa latência dos participantes ficou dentro da normalidade e no de curta latência houve uma média aumentada na latência das ondas III e V da orelha esquerda, bem como no intervalo interpico I-III de ambas as orelhas. Ao relacionar os potenciais auditivos com DV e DVPD, houve significância estatística apenas no intervalo interpico III-V no potencial de curta latência da orelha direita. Ao comparar longa e curta latência nos grupos, houve diferenças nas latências entre DV e DVPD, sem significância estatística. Conclusão Não houve relação significativa de DV e DVPD com os potenciais auditivos, porém, nos potenciais de longa latência, os indivíduos com Disfunção Vestibular apresentaram maior latência em P1, N1, P2, N2 e os indivíduos com Disfunção Vestibular Periférica Deficitária, maior latência no P300. No potencial de curta latência, houve um aumento nas latências absolutas no grupo Disfunção Vestibular e nos intervalos interpicos em Disfunção Vestibular Periférica Deficitária.

ABSTRACT Purpose Evaluate the auditory pathway at the brainstem and cortical levels in individuals with peripheral vestibular dysfunction. Methods The study sample was composed 19 individuals aged 20-80 years that presented exam results suggestive of Peripheral Vestibular Disorder (PVD) or Vestibular Dysfunction (VD). Participants underwent evaluation of the auditory pathway through Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEP) (short latency) and P1, N1, P2, N2, and P300 cortical potentials (long latency). Results Nine individuals presented diagnosis of VD and 10 participants were diagnosed with PVD. The overall average of the long latency potentials of the participants was within the normal range, whereas an increased mean was observed in the short latency of waves III and V of the left ear, as well as in the I – III interpeak interval of both ears. Association of the auditory potentials with VD and PVD showed statistically significant correlation only in the III – V interpeak interval of the right ear for short latency. Comparison between the long and short latencies in the groups showed differences between VD and PVD, but without statistical significance. Conclusion No statistically significant correlation was observed between VD/PVD and the auditory evoked potentials; however, for the long latency potentials, individuals with VD presented higher latency in P1, N1, P2, and N2, where as participants with PVD showed higher latency in P300. In the short latency potentials, there was an increase in the absolute latencies in the VD group and in the interpeak intervals in the PVD group.

RESUMO O Mismatch Negativity (MMN) é um potencial cortical que ocorre em resposta a uma mudança de um estímulo acústico em meio a uma sequência de repetidos estímulos, o que reflete a capacidade do cérebro em discriminar o som de modo passivo, ou seja, sem a necessidade de atenção do indivíduo ao estímulo sonoro. Diante disso, o objetivo deste estudo foi realizar uma revisão descritiva sobre o MMN, a fim de identificar a sua aplicabilidade em crianças e adolescentes nos últimos cinco anos. Para isso, realizou-se uma busca nas bases de dados Lilacs, SciELO, Medline e Pubmed utilizando os seguintes descritores: córtex auditivo, eletrofisiologia, potenciais evocados auditivos e as palavras Mismacth e Negativity. Nesta revisão, foram encontrados 14 estudos que avaliaram crianças e/ou adolescentes com dificuldade de articulação na fala, distúrbio específico de linguagem, transtorno do processamento auditivo, Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção e Hiperatividade (TDAH), dislexia, autismo, risco para esquizofrenia, psicose, amusia, fenilcetonúria e atenção seletiva. Foi possível, assim, realizar a revisão descritiva sobre a aplicação do MMN em crianças e adolescentes, concluindo-se que, nos últimos cinco anos, houve uma produção considerável de artigos sobre o tema, embora no Brasil a presença de estudos a esse respeito ainda seja escassa. Nesse sentido, apesar de existir uma variedade de aplicações para o MMN, no que diz respeito à população brasileira, necessita-se ainda de evidências científicas que assegurem o efeito deste potencial nas diferentes faixas etárias. Verificou-se, também, que a busca por estudos sobre MMN nas bases de dados citadas pode ser realizada apenas utilizando as palavras Mismacth e Negativity.

ABSTRACT Mismatch Negativity (MMN) is a cortical potential that occurs in response to a modification of an acoustic stimulus from a sequence of repeated stimuli, which reflects the brain capacity in relation to the discrimination of the sound passively, in other words, without the need of attention of the subject to the sound stimulus. Then, the aim of this study is to perform a descriptive review on MMN, in order to identify its applicability in children and teenagers, in the last five years. To this end, the search was performed in the Lilacs, SciELO, Medline and Pubmed databases by using the following descriptors: córtex auditivo, eletrofisiologia, potenciais evocados auditivos (the English version would be: auditory cortex, electrophysiology, auditory evoked potentials). In addition to, the words Mismatch and Negativity were used. In this review, we found 14 studies which evaluated children and/or teenagers with difficulty in speech articulation, specific language impairment, auditory processing disorder, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, autism, risk for schizophrenia, psychosis, amusia, phenylketonuria and selective attention. So, it was possible to perform the descriptive review on the application of MMN in children and teenagers, concluding that in the last five years there were a reasonable article production about the theme. However, studies on this topic are not expressive in Brazil. Even though there is a variety of applications to MMN, in relation to the Brazilian population, there is a need for scientific evidences to use this potential in different age groups. We also verified that the search for MMN studies in the databases could be performed by only using the words Mismatch and Negativity.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar os efeitos da perda auditiva e da cognição no reconhecimento de sentenças em idosos. Métodos Participaram do estudo 30 idosos distribuídos em dois grupos: GI- composto por 17 idosos sem perda auditiva e GII- composto por 13 idosos com perda auditiva de grau leve. Para avaliar a cognição, foi aplicado o Mini Exame do Estado Mental (MEEM) e, para analisar os efeitos auditivos, foi realizado o teste Listas de Sentenças em Português (LSP), no qual foi pesquisado o Limiar de Reconhecimento de Sentenças no Silêncio (LRSS) e a relação sinal/ruído (S/R). Resultados No MEEM, houve um percentual maior de indivíduos com alteração no GI do que no GII. Tanto no LRSS quanto na relação S/R, o GI apresentou menores limiares do que o GII em ambas as orelhas. Em relação aos aspectos cognitivos, não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre o grupo normal e alterado no MEEM com o LRSS e relação S/R dos grupos GI e GII de ambas as orelhas. Conclusão A perda auditiva de grau leve exerceu influência no reconhecimento de sentenças no silêncio e no ruído. Já os aspectos cognitivos não interferiram no reconhecimento de fala tanto no silêncio quanto no ruído.

ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate the effects of hearing and cognitive impairment in sentence recognition in elderly people. Methods The study included 30 elderly individuals divided into two groups: GI, with 17 elderly people without hearing loss and GII, with 13 elderly people with mild hearing loss. In order to evaluate their cognition, the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was performed, whereas, for the evaluation of the auditory effects, the Portuguese Sentence List (PSL) was performed, in which the sentence recognition thresholds in silence (SRTS) and the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) were researched. Results In MMSE, there was a higher percent of individuals with alteration for GI group when compared with GII group. In both SRTS and S/N, the GI group presented lower thresholds when compared with the GII group for both ears. Regarding the cognitive aspects, no significant statistical difference between normal and altered groups was observed in the MMSE for SRTS and S/N for GI and GII in both ears. Conclusion Mild hearing loss exerted influence on the sentence recognition in silence and in noise. On the other hand, the cognitive aspects did not interfere in speech recognition in both silence and noise.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar os resultados nas diferentes formas de respostas no teste melódico de ordenação temporal para frequência e duração. Métodos A amostra foi composta por 33 sujeitos, por conveniência, com idade entre 17 e 27 anos, normo-ouvintes, sem queixas de processamento auditivo e de histórico de risco para alterações auditivas, ausência de síndromes ou malformações craniofaciais, deficiência física (manual), bem como de alterações neurológicas e de linguagem e com escolaridade superior a nove anos de estudo. Os sujeitos foram submetidos ao teste de ordenação temporal com tom musical, a saber: Teste de Padrão de Duração (TPD) e Teste de Padrão de Frequência (TPF), aplicados sob três condições de respostas (verbal, humming e motor,) e realizados na mesma data. Para isso, os sujeitos foram solicitados, primeiramente, a reconhecer os estímulos verbalmente, em seguida a caracterizar os estímulos em um padrão imitativo e, por fim, a identificar os estímulos com respostas manuais. Resultados Não houve diferenças significativas entre as três formas de resposta para o TPD e TPF. No entanto, observou-se que, para o TPF, houve maior número de alterações que o TPD, independente da forma de resposta. Ainda, as formas motor e verbal tiveram mais alterações que o humming, no TPF. Conclusão As diferentes formas de respostas (verbal, humming e motor) para os testes TPD e TPF melódicos não alteram o seu resultado.

ABSTRACT Purpose Evaluate the results of the different forms of responses in the melodic temporal ordering test in relation to frequency and duration. Methods The sample was composed of 33 subjects, for convenience, aged between 17 and 27 years old, normal hearing individuals, presenting no complaints regarding auditory processing and having no hearing impairment, syndromes or craniofacial malformation history; no physical disability (manual), as well as no neurological and speech impairment and education level greater than nine years. They were subjected to the temporal ordering test with musical tone, called melodic Duration Pattern Test (DPT) and Frequency Pattern Test (FPT), applied under three response conditions (motor, humming and motor), performed on the same date. For that, at a first moment, the induvial were asked to recognize the stimuli verbally, then characterize the stimuli in an imitative pattern and, finally, to recognize the stimuli in manual responses. Results Statistically significant differences were not observed between the three forms of responses for DPT and FPT. However, it is remarkable that there was a greater number of changes for FPT than for DPT, regardless the form of response. Furthermore, motor and verbal responses presented more changes for humming, in FPT. Conclusion The different forms of response (motor, humming and motor) for the melodic DPT and FPT did not change the results.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a habilidade de ordenação temporal com diferentes testes, verificar a especificidade desses testes e comparar o resultado com o grau de facilidade/dificuldade relatado pelos sujeitos. Métodos: Os indivíduos realizaram avaliação audiológica básica e Teste Dicótico de Dígitos, para triagem do processamento auditivo, e foram submetidos ao Teste Padrão de Frequência (TPF) e ao Teste Padrão de Duração (TPD), nas versões de Taborga-Lizarro, Musiek e Auditec®, para avaliar a habilidade de Ordenação Temporal. Após, foi apresentada a Escala Visual Analógica (EVA), para que os sujeitos identificassem a dificuldade de cada teste. Resultados: Foram avaliados 33 sujeitos, 29 do gênero feminino e quatro do gênero masculino, com idade entre 17 e 27 anos. Houve maior número de indivíduos que atingiram valores normais no teste Auditec® e de Taborga-Lizarro, para o TPD e TPF. No teste de Musiek, houve um número de sujeitos com resultados normais muito próximos aos de sujeitos com alteração de processamento. Na distribuição do teste mais difícil, houve significância estatística para o teste de Musiek. Quanto à especificidade dos testes, o Auditec® mostrou-se melhor, porém, a análise foi realizada apenas em TPF. Conclusão: Embora os indivíduos não tenham apresentado alteração e queixa de processamento auditivo, houve diferença nos resultados dos testes de ordenação temporal. Quanto ao grau de dificuldade relatado para o teste de Musiek, verificou-se que houve influência deste fator nos resultados dos testes. Na análise de especificidade dos testes, pôde-se observar melhores resultados para o teste Auditec®.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Evaluate temporal ordering ability with different tests, verify the specificity of these tests and compare the result with the level of easiness/difficulty reported by the subjects. Methods: The subjects carried out basic audiological evaluation and Dichotic Digit Test, for auditory processing screening, and they also underwent Frequency Pattern Test (FPT) and Duration Pattern Test (TPD), in the versions of Taborga-Lizarro, Musiek and Auditec®, in order to evaluate the temporal ordering ability. Afterwards, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was presented, so that the subjects could identify the difficulty of each test. Results: A total of 33 subjects were evaluated, being 29 women and four men, aged from 17 to 27 years. There were a higher number of individuals who have reached normal levels in Auditec® test and in Taborga-Lizarro test, for FPT and TPD. In the Musiek test, there were some subjects with normal results very close to the ones observed on subjects with processing disorders. In the distribution of the most difficult test, there was a statistical significance for the Musiek test. In terms of the specificity of the test, Auditec® proved to be better. However, the analysis was performed only on TPD. Conclusion: Although the subjects did not present change and auditory processing complaints, we found difference in the results of temporal ordering tests. In relation to the reported difficulty for Musiek test, we verified that there was influence of this factor on the test results. In the analysis for specificity tests, better results for the Auditec® test could be observed.
