Abstract A novel method to classify the aggressiveness of soil considering its physicochemical content and the development of new synthetic solutions for lab uses is proposed. The results showed that the main criteria existing in the literature for soil corrosivity classification might cause misunderstandings about the real aggressiveness. The synthetic solutions proposed aim to cover a wide range of soil found worldwide in order to refine the assessment of their characteristics hence their corrosivity. For the lab experiments, an API 5L X65 pipeline carbon steel was used. The solutions presented great reliability, and they seemed to be adequate to simulate soils with the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), chloride, and high pH.

Resumo Os aditivos aromatizantes têm grande importância tecnológica para a indústria de alimentos. Contudo, poucas são as informações quanto as propriedades toxicológicas desses microingredientes, especialmente, em nível celular. No presente estudo avaliou-se, sobre as células meristemáticas de raízes de Allium cepa L., a toxicidade de um aditivo sintético líquido de aroma e sabor de chocolate, fabricado e amplamente comercializado em todo Brasil, e exportado para outros países da América do Sul. As concentrações de aromatizante avaliadas foram 100,00; 50,00; 25,00; 1,00; 0,50 e 0,25 µL/L, onde a maior concentração estabelecida foi cem vezes menor que a sugerida comercialmente para uso. Com base na interpretação dos resultados, a concentração 100 µL/L reduziu substancialmente a divisão celular dos meristemas nas 24 e 48 horas de exposição. As concentrações 100,00 a 0,50 µL/L demonstraram número significativo de prófases em detrimento as outras fases da divisão celular, indicando ação aneugênica, e induziram número significativo de alterações celulares, com ênfase a micronúcleos, broto nucleares e quebras cromossômicas. Nas condições de análises estabelecidas, com exceção a concentração 0,25 µL/L, o aromatizante de chocolate causou citotoxicidade, genotoxicidade e mutagenicidade aos meristemas radiculares.

Abstract Flavoring additives are of great technological importance for the food industry. However, there is little information regarding the toxicological properties of these micro-ingredients, especially at the cellular level. The present study used meristematic root cells of Allium cepa L. to evaluate the toxicity of a liquid, aroma and flavor synthetic chocolate additive, manufactured and widely marketed throughout Brazil and exported to other countries in South America. The flavoring concentrations evaluated were 100.00; 50.00; 25.00; 1.00; 0.50 and 0.25 µL/L, where the highest concentration established was one-hundred times lower than that commercially suggested for use. The concentration 100 µL/L substantially reduced cell division of meristems within 24- and 48-hours exposure. Concentrations from 100.00 to 0.50 µL/L resulted in a significant number of prophases to the detriment of the other phases of cell division, indicating an aneugenic activity, and induced a significant number of cellular changes, with emphasis on micronuclei, nuclear buds and chromosomal breaks. Under the established analysis conditions, with the exception of concentration 0.25 µL/L, the flavoring of chocolate caused cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and mutagenicity to root meristems.

Thallium (Tl) is a rare metal with toxic effects notably harmful to human health and the environment. In this article, the natural occurrence of Tl was evaluated in a deactivated manganese mine located in the western region of Bahia, Brazil. The extraction procedure with aqua regia was used to dissolve the soil, sediment, and tailings samples. The Tl content was determined by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) and manganese (Mn) and iron (Fe) by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). The Tl levels ranged from 0.64 to 473 mg kg-1, triggering an alert since most of the samples (soil and sediment) analyzed presented Tl concentrations above 1.0 mg kg-1, recognized as the maximum limit recommended by environmental agencies in North America and Europe.

RESUMO O conhecimento acerca da dieta de uma determinada espécie é essencial para fornecer informações sobre o crescimento e manutenção das populações em ambiente natural. Macrobrachium brasiliense (Heller, 1862) é uma espécie de camarão de água doce com ampla distribuição no Brasil, ocorrendo frequentemente em ambientes aquáticos inseridos no bioma Cerrado. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a dieta natural de uma população de M. brasiliense, comparando os itens alimentares consumidos em função do sexo, sazonalidade e tamanho corporal dos indivíduos. Foram realizadas coletas mensais entre setembro de 2018 a agosto de 2019. Os indivíduos coletados tiveram seu sexo identificado e o comprimento do cefalotórax mensurado. O conteúdo estomacal foi avaliado a partir do grau de repleção, método de pontos e de frequência de ocorrência. Verificou-se elevada frequência de detrito vegetal no conteúdo estomacal e uma frequência menor de insetos aquáticos, porém significativa. Não houve diferenças significativas quanto à dieta de machos e fêmeas e entre as estações seca e chuvosa. Foi observado um aumento do consumo total de insetos com aumento de tamanho de machos e fêmeas de M. brasiliense. Uma preferência de dieta por Trichoptera foi registrada em ambos os períodos de amostragem para machos e fêmeas.Os resultados obtidos confirmam uma dieta onívora para a espécie e sugerem que a composição e a proporção de itens podem variar em função do tamanho dos indivíduos e da disponibilidade dos itens no ambiente.

ABSTRACT Knowledge about the diet of a given species is essential to provide information on the growth and maintenance of populations in a natural environment. Macrobrachium brasiliense (Heller, 1862) is a species of freshwater prawn widely distributed in Brazil, being frequent in aquatic environments inserted in the Cerrado biome. The aim of this study was to evaluate the natural diet of a population of M. brasiliense, comparing the consumed food items according to sex, seasonality and body size of individuals. Monthly collections were carried out between September 2018 and August 2019. The individuals collected had their sex identified and the length of the cephalothorax measured. Stomach content was assessed based on the degree of repletion, the method of points and the frequency of occurrence. There was a high frequency of plant material in the stomach contents and a smaller but significant frequency of aquatic insects. There were no significant differences regarding the diet of males and females and between the dry and rainy seasons. It was observed an increase in total insect consumption with the increase in size of males and females of M. brasiliense. A diet preference for Trichoptera was recorded in both sampling periods for males and females. The results obtained confirm an omnivorous diet for the species and suggest that the composition and proportion of items may vary depending on the size of the individuals and the availability of the items in the environment.

RESUMO: Na ultrassonografia, o modo bidimensional (modo B) permite a avaliação morfológica e morfométrica de vários tipos de órgãos e tecidos, enquanto o modo Doppler permite a avaliação hemodinâmica. Em humanos, a avaliação com Doppler é usada rotineiramente na avaliação de artérias e veias importantes, como as artérias carótidas e veias jugulares, com diferenças significativas entre gêneros e lados. No entanto, em medicina veterinária, este método diagnóstico ainda não está bem estabelecido na avaliação das artérias carótidas, com apenas poucos relatos em equinos domésticos. Este estudo tem como objetivo comparar as artérias carótidas comuns direita e esquerda de equinos e mulas domésticos, utilizando a avaliação bidimensional (modo B) e por ultrassonografia Doppler espectral. Avaliaram-se as artérias carótidas comuns de 10 equinos domésticos (cinco machos e cinco fêmeas) e 10 mulas (cinco machos e cinco fêmeas). As seguintes variáveis foram medidas em três porções diferentes (cranial, médio e caudal): diâmetro, espessura íntima-média (IMT), índice de resistividade (RI), índice de pulsatilidade (PI), pico de velocidade sistólica (pSV) e velocidade diastólica final (fDV). Não foram observadas diferenças significativas nas variáveis bidimensionais (diâmetro e IMT) entre as artérias carótidas comuns de cavalos e muares, independentemente do gênero (p>0,05). No modo Doppler, não houve diferenças significativas entre os valores para carótidas em equinos machos e fêmeas (p>0,05). Nos muares, só foi possível observar diferenças entre os valores de RI e PI (p<0,05), sendo maiores no lado esquerdo (0,81 e 2,04 respectivamente), e o fDV (p<0,05) superior no lado direito (14,35) nos machos. Quanto as fêmeas, houve apenas no fDV (p<0,05), sendo o lado direito superior (23,16). Os diâmetros e IMT não diferem entre os lados em equinos e muares na ultrassonografia modo B. Já o Doppler espectral nos equinos não difere entre os lados, independentemente do gênero. Quanto aos muares, os machos diferenciam no IR, IP e fDV entre os lados, enquanto as fêmeas apenas para fDV.

ABSTRACT: In ultrasonography, the bi-dimensional mode (B-mode) allows the morphological and morphometric evaluation of several types of organs and tissues, while the Doppler mode allows the hemodynamic evaluation. In humans, the Doppler evaluation is routinely used in the assessment of important arteries and veins, such as the carotid arteries and jugular veins, with significant differences between genres and sides. However, in veterinary medicine, this diagnostic method is not yet well established in the evaluation of the carotid arteries, with only few reports in domestic horses. This study aims to compare the right and left common carotid arteries of domestic horses and mules using bi-dimensional and Doppler ultrasound evaluation. The common carotid arteries from 10 domestic horses (five males and five females) and 10 mules (five males and five females) were evaluated. The following variables were measured at three different portions (cranial, middle and caudal): diameter, intima-media thickness (IMT), resistivity index (RI), pulsatility index (PI), peak of systolic velocity (pSV) and final diastolic velocity (fDV). No significant differences were observed in the bi-dimensional variables (diameter and IMT) between the common carotid arteries of horses and mules, regardless of gender (p>0.05). In Doppler mode, there were no significant differences between carotid values in male and female horses (p> 0.05). In the mules, it was only possible to observe differences between the RI and PI values (p<0.05), being higher on the left side (0.81 and 2.04 respectively), and the fDV (p<0.05) higher, on the right side (14.35) in males. As for females, there was only in fDV (p<0.05), with the upper right side (23.16). Diameters and IMT do not differ between sides in horses and mules in B-mode ultrasound. Spectral Doppler in horses does not differ between sides, regardless of gender. As for mules, males differ in RI, PI and fDV between sides, while females differ only in fDV.

Metabolomics has played a central role in various areas of plant sciences, offering new perspectives for the advancement of agriculture, drug discovery, chemical ecology and taxonomy. Plant metabolomics (identification and quantification) aims to understand the relationship between biological systems and genetic, pathological and or environmental stimuli in terms of differential expression of the metabolism. Owing to the unique challenges, such studies require multidisciplinary skills involving biology, chemistry, statistics, and computer science for the extraction and complete understanding of information. In this sense, this review summarizes the main procedures that involve the steps of plant metabolomic study (design of experiments, sample preparation, analytical methods and data analysis), providing a comprehensive overview, showing the main challenges and limitations and possible solutions for the different approaches used.

Fasted condition in multicomponent training does not affect health parameters in physically active post-menopausal women

Abstract Diet and exercise are the main modifiable factors for cardiovascular disease and may be particularly important in older adults. We investigated the effects of fasting during 12 weeks of multicomponent training in the context of the aging process in physically active post-menopausal women. Method: 25 women (60.6 ± 8.9 years) were randomized into two groups: fed (FED, n=12) or fasted (FASTED, n=13) and submitted to multicomponent training. The participants underwent anthropometric, body composition, blood pressure, biochemical blood and physical fitness assessments. Results: There was a reduction in both groups for waist circumference [FED: 100.4±6.8 and 99.1±7.1 cm before and after the intervention, respectively; F = 4.214, p = 0.048; FASTED: 93.1±10.2 and 92.2±8.4 cm before and after the intervention, respectively; p = 0.039]. No significant changes were observed for the other outcomes. Discussion: The current research results, the first in the context of aging, agree with previous studies that analyzed chronic effects of fasting, showing that fasted exercise training did not improve anthropometric measurements, body composition, or blood markers compared to the fed condition after long-term exercise training. Together, these findings suggest that fasting during multicomponent training does not affect health parameters in physically active post-menopausal women.

Resumo: O gênero de anfípodes HyalellaSmith, 1874 é exclusivo das Américas, e a região Sul do Brasil apresenta a maior diversidade do gênero. Este artigo apresenta duas novas espécies de Hyalella para o estado de Santa Catarina, Brasil. Uma nova espécie do município de Palmeira é caracterizada por olhos ovais, ausência de flanges, placas epimerais não acuminadas, presença de três setas paposas laterais no artigo 4 na antena 2, ausência de setas plumosas no maxilípodo, presença de comb scales e ausência de setas serradas nos gnatópodos, presença de seta curva no ramo interno do urópodo 1 e ausência de setas laterais no télson. Uma nova espécie do município de Rio das Antas tem como principais características ausência de flanges, placas epimerais acuminadas, ausência de setas plumosas e unha distal no maxilípodo, presença de comb scales e ausência de setas serradas nos gnatópodos, presença de seta curva no ramo interno do urópodo 1 e ausência de setas laterais no télson. Aqui expandimos a distribuição e aumentamos o conhecimento morfológico e taxonômico do gênero.

Abstract: The amphipod HyalellaSmith, 1874 is exclusive to the Americas, and the South region of Brazil presents the greatest diversity of the genus. This paper presents two species of Hyalella from Santa Catarina state, Brazil. A new species from the municipality of Palmeira is characterized by oval eyes, absence of flanges, epimeral plates not accuminated, presence of three lateral pappose setae on article 4 in antenna 2, absence of plumose setae in the maxilliped, presence of comb-scales and absence of serrate setae in the gnathopods, presence of curved seta on the inner ramus of the uropod 1 and absence of lateral setae on the telson. A new species from Rio das Antas municipality main characteristics are absence of flanges, epimeral plates accuminated, absence of plumose setae and distal nail in the maxilliped, presence of comb-scales and absence of serrate setae in gnathopods, presence of curved seta on the inner ramus of the uropod 1 and absence of lateral setae on the telson. Here we expand the distribution and increase the morphological and taxonomic knowledge of the genus.

Abstract: The sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis is one of the hosts more used for parasitoid pupal multiplication in Brazil. The parasitoids pupal of Trichospilus diatraeae and Palmistichus elaeisis are generalist natural enemies with potential to suppress populations of diverse families of lepidopteran pests. The success in the utilization of these natural enemies in the field is directly related to the capacity of search of the host, this capacity might be affected by the presence of the pathogens. In this context, the aim of this essay was to detect the presence of intracellular parasites of Phylum Microsporidia. These pathogens may cause morphological and behavioral alterations. The presence of infection was verified by microscopy and was confirmed by amplification of region small subunit (SSU) of ribosomal RNA using universal primers for microsporidia of Nosema sp. The purified PCR products were submitted to sequencing, and the sequences that had been obtained were edited and aligned with the sequences in a Genbank database. In this way, it was possible to verify the presence of intracellular parasites in T. diatraeae, P. elaeisis and D. saccharalis pertaining to Clade Nosema/Vairimorpha. However, this is the first one report about detection of the microsporidia in the parasitoids T. diatraeae and P. elaeisis.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a influência de fatores abióticos (condutividade, oxigênio dissolvido, pH, precipitação e temperatura da água) na abundância de Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller, 1862), bem como comparar o crescimento relativo entre as categorias demográficas ao longo das estações do ano, em uma lagoa marginal localizada no município de Perdões, em Minas Gerais. Os camarões foram coletados mensalmente, de agosto de 2013 a julho de 2014, em macrófitas do gênero Eichhornia com o uso de uma peneira semicircular. No laboratório, os espécimes foram categorizados em juvenis, machos, fêmeas e fêmeas ovígeras, e medidos quanto ao comprimento total (CT), comprimento da carapaça (CC) e comprimento do abdome (CA). O predomínio de juvenis foi evidente, representando 74,4%, seguido por 16,7% machos, 6,1% fêmeas e 2,8% fêmeas ovígeras. A abundância total e a abundância de juvenis, machos e fêmeas foram correlacionadas negativamente com a condutividade. O crescimento relativo do CT e CA, em relação ao CC, foi diferente para juvenis, machos e fêmeas ao longo de todo ano, exceto durante o verão (para CT e CA) e o outono (para CA), quando o mesmo padrão foi observado para as três categorias demográficas (p>0,05), possivelmente devido à maior abundância de indivíduos jovens obtida durante estas estações. Esta maior abundância de juvenis pode estar relacionada à sua ocorrência em microhabitats que forneçam refúgio como Eichhornia. Apesar de algumas características semelhantes aqui observadas em relação às demais populações ao longo de sua distribuição geográfica, como o elevado número de juvenis e o menor tamanho dos machos em comparação às fêmeas, o presente estudo fornece informações que ampliam o conhecimento sobre a plasticidade de M. amazonicum, principalmente com relação ao local de amostragem - uma lagoa marginal. Desta forma, os resultados obtidos ampliam a compreensão sobre a vasta ocorrência da espécie e suas respectivas adaptações nos mais variados habitats, contribuindo para a elaboração de diretrizes de conservação e manejo para M. amazonicum e para o meio que habita.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of abiotic factors (conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, precipitation, and water temperature) on the abundance of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller, 1862), as well as to compare the relative growth among demographic groups throughout the seasons in a lagoon system located in the municipality of Perdões, Minas Gerais. Monthly, from August/2013 to July/2014, the prawns were collected on macrophytes of the genus Eichhornia using a semi-circular sieve. In the laboratory, the specimens were categorized into juveniles, males, ovigerous females and non-ovigerous females, and measured as total length (TL), carapace length (CL), and abdomen length (AL). The predominance of juveniles was evident, representing 74.4%, followed by 16.7% males, 2.8% ovigerous females and 6.1% non-ovigerous females. The total abundance and the abundance of juveniles, males, and females were negatively correlated with conductivity. The relative growth of TL and AL, in relation to CL, was different for juveniles, males and females thought the year, except during summer (for TL and AL) and autumn (for AL), when the same pattern was observed for the three demographic categories (p>0.05), possibly due to the highest abundance of juvenile individuals obtained in these seasons. The highest abundance of juveniles can be related to its occurrence in microhabitats that provide refuge, as Eichhornia. Despite some similar characteristics here observed in relation to the other populations throughout its distribution, as the high number of juveniles and the smaller size of males compared to females, the present study provides information that expands the knowledge on the plasticity of M. amazonicum, considering the sampled local - a lateral lagoon system. The obtained results promote the comprehension of the vast occurrence of the species and its adaptations to each specific environment, contributing to the elaboration of conservation and management guidelines for M. amazonicum and for the environment where it inhabits.

São necessários estudos que definam um “padrão de qualidade” de um determinado produto. Nesse sentido, as avaliações ligadas aos variados aspectos dos alimentos, sejam eles de indicações nutricionais, físico-químicos ou sensoriais, apresentam-se como importantes ferramentas na definição da qualidade do produto. O trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a qualidade de quinze marcas de açúcar mascavado. Quanto à humidade, todas as marcas estavam dentro do relatado pela literatura apresentando duas delas um valor de Aw maior que 0,60. Quatro marcas apresentaram-se fora do limite estabelecido do padrão internacional para bactérias mesófilas e duas marcas não conformes para bolores e leveduras. Quanto a analise sensorial, os açúcares apresentaram diferenças na cor, aparência húmida, gosto doce e textura granulosa, porém estas diferenças não afetaram a preferência para este grupo de consumidores.

Studies which lead to a pointing that aims at defining a qualitative positioning of a certain product are necessary. In this sense, the evaluations related to the various aspects of the foods, being them of nutritional indications, physicochemical or sensory, are important tools in pointing the quality of the product. This work aimed at analyzing the quality of fifteen brands of brown sugars. Regarding moisture, all brands were inside what is reported by the literature and two brands presented Aw higher than 0.60. Four brands stayed outside the limit established by the international standard for mesophilic bacteria and two brands were not in accordance for molds and yeasts. The sugars presented sensory difference for color, humid appearance, sweet taste and grainy texture; however, for this group of consumers, these differences did not affect preference.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a frequência de espécies de Candida entre uma população de indivíduos não-hospitalizados e hospitalizados. Para isto, amostras de saliva foram coletadas através de swabs estéreis, umedecidas em água de peptona e friccionadas na cavidade bucal de 140 indivíduos, dos quais 70 eram pacientes internados em uma Clínica Médica de um Hospital Escola e os outros 70 eram indivíduos não hospitalizados sem contato com ambiente hospitalar. Todas as amostras de saliva foram plaqueadas em ágar Sabouraud dextrose adicionadas de cloranfenicol e incubadas a 36 °C durante 48 horas. A identificação morfológica foi realizada através da caracterização macroscópica e microscópica, com o meio CHROMagar Candida e do sistema VITEK® Biochemical Card (bio Mérieux SA, França). Os resultados mostraram uma colonização de Candida spp. em 85,7% dos indivíduos hospitalizados, onde as espécies encontradas foram: C.albicans (60%), C. tropicalis (23,4%), C. krusei (3,3%) e Candida spp. (13,3%). Nos indivíduos não-hospitalizados a colonização por Candida spp foi de 47,1%, e as espécies encontradas foram: C. albicans (45,5%), C. krusei (9,1%), C. guilliermondii (9,1%), C. tropicalis (3,0%), C. famata (3,0%) e Candida spp. (30,3%). Apesar de sua presença na cavidade oral em ambos os grupos, Candida spp. foi mais freqüentemente isolada em indivíduos hospitalizados, que foram 6,73 vezes mais propensos a ter este fungo na cavidade oral e foram 3,88 vezes mais propensos a ter Candida albicans.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of Candida species between a non-hospitalized and a hospitalized population. For this purpose, samples of saliva were sampled through sterile swabs, moistened in peptone water and rubbed in the oral cavity of 140 individuals, from which, 70 were hospitalized patients from the Medical Clinic of a Teaching Hospital and the other 70 were non-hospitalized subjects. All saliva samples were plated in Sabouraud Dextrose agar added with Chloramphenicol and incubated at 36 °C for 48 hours. The morphology identification was performed through macroscopic and microscopic characterization, the CHROMagar Candida medium and the VITEK® system Yeast Biochemical Card (bio Mérieux SA, France). The results showed a colonization of Candida spp. in 85.7% the hospitalized individuals, where the species found were C. albicans (60%), C. tropicalis (23.4%), C. krusei (3.3%) and Candida spp. (13.3%). In the non-hospitalized individuals the colonization by Candida spp was 47.1%, and the species found were: C. albicans (45.5%), C.krusei (9.1%), C. guilliermondii (9.1% %), C. tropicalis (3.0%), C. famata (3.0%) and Candida spp. (30.3%). In spite of their presence in oral cavity in both groups, Candida spp. was more frequently isolated in hospitalized individuals, who were 6.73 times more likely to have this fungus in the oral cavity and were 3.88 times more likely to have Candida albicans.

Abstract The most commonly instrument used to measure quality of life in patients with addictive behaviors is the WHOQOL-BREF, developed by the World Health Organization. No studies have been found to explore the psychometric properties in Spanish clinical samples. This paper aims to study their reliability as well as the construct validity in a representative sample of patients and comparing the results to the data available for the general population in Spain. A sample was recruited comprised of 523 subjects who were undergoing treatment with methadone in Madrid and Extremadura. A confirmatory factor analysis was completed to test the theoretically proposed structure and then an optimized-parallel analysis was done to establish the most adequate number of components. The result offers solid values for internal consistency both as concerns the items and the scales. The theoretical tetra-dimensional structure is confirmed in the sample although serious arguments are also found for considering its one-dimensionality. The structural relationship between the four domains was studied. The WHOQOL-BREF proves to be a reliable and valid test for use on patients treated with methadone, providing a multi-dimensional measure of perceived quality of life that includes social and environmental factors of great importance in treating addiction problems.

Resumen Objetivo. De entre los muchos instrumentos propuestos para medir la calidad de vida de los pacientes con adicción a opiáceos tratados con metadona el WHOQOL-BREF, propuesto por la World Health Organization, es el que más se utiliza en la actualidad. Este trabajo pretende estudiar la fiabilidad y la validez de constructo de la prueba, aplicada a una muestra amplia y representativa de pacientes, y comparar los resultados con los datos disponibles para población general en España. Se reclutó una muestra de 523 sujetos que se encontraban en tratamiento con metadona, en Madrid y Extremadura. Se efectuó un análisis factorial confirmatorio para probar la estructura teóricamente propuesta y, seguidamente, un análisis paralelo optimizado para conocer el número más adecuado de componentes de la prueba. Los resultados muestran que la prueba presenta sólidos valores de consistencia interna, tanto a nivel del ítem como de las escalas. La estructura tetradimensional teórica se confirma en la muestra con adecuados indicadores de ajuste, aunque también se obtienen serios argumentos para considerar su unidimensionalidad. Se estudió la relación estructural entre los cuatro dominios. El WHOQOL-BREF se muestra como una prueba fiable y válida para su uso en pacientes tratados con metadona, proporcionando una medida multidimensional de la calidad de vida percibida, que incluye factores sociales y ambientales ausentes en otros instrumentos, que son de enorme importancia en el tratamiento de los problemas adictivos.

ABSTRACT: Since colonial times, Brazilian land use has been made under an extractivist model at the expense of deforestation, increasing soil and vegetation depletion, stream siltation, as well as loss of biodiversity. An ecological-economic zoning (EEZ) has been taken as feasible alternative to guide public policies aimed at city land-use planning. This study focused on designing an EZZ for the city of Altinópolis, in São Paulo state (Brazil), by means of geographical information systems (GIS). Information and maps delineated six land-use areas, in which 30% covered areas under environmental protection, 45% over areas with groundwater recharge potential, which should be intended to restoration. Furthermore, around 70% of the territory show potential to be grown with agroforestry systems due to soil, climate and relief conditions. These results point out demand for further public policies to encouraging preservation of existing forests and restoration of degraded areas, mainly those covering groundwater-recharge areas.

Resumo Este estudo objetivou avaliar alterações nas variáveis abióticas e no biovolume fitoplanctônico durante o cultivo experimental de peixes em tanques-rede em um braço lateral do reservatório de Salto Caxias, Brasil. Foram selecionadas duas estações de amostragem no braço com tanques-rede e outras duas em um braço sem tanques. As variáveis abióticas e o biovolume fitoplanctônico não apresentaram diferenças significativas entre os locais estudados. Apenas mudanças temporais foram confirmadas pelas análises utilizadas. Os dois braços laterais foram classificados como oligotróficos, refletindo a baixa influência dos tanques-rede. O crescimento do fitoplâncton parece ter sido limitado principalmente por nitrogênio. Os valores de biovolume foram, em geral, baixos e cinco principais grupos funcionais foram observados (E, F, G, K e P). No verão, os maiores valores de biovolume foram observados e representantes de Chlorophyceae e Cyanobacteria dos grupos funcionais F e K, respectivamente, se destacaram. No inverno, o fitoplâncton foi composto principalmente por táxons de Bacillariophyceae do grupo P. O grupo G também foi restrito ao inverno e o grupo E ocorreu no inverno e verão. As variações registradas na estrutura do fitoplâncton parecem ter sido principalmente influenciadas pelas mudanças sazonais de temperatura, precipitação e disponibilidade de nutrientes. Os efeitos dos tanques-rede sobre as variáveis abióticas e biovolume fitoplanctônico parecem ter sido pequenos, provavelmente devido ao pequeno número de tanques utilizados e a capacidade de diluição do sistema. Entretanto, o monitoramento permanente do fitoplâncton é recomendado, uma vez que este ambiente possui uma capacidade de suporte, a partir da qual o estado trófico pode aumentar.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate nutrients concentration and spatial-temporal changes in phytoplankton biovolume during an experimental fish culture in net cages in a lateral arm of Salto Caxias reservoir, Brazil. Two sampling stations were placed in the affected lateral arm and other two in a cageless lateral arm. Neither abiotic variables nor phytoplankton biovolume presented significant differences between the treatments. Only temporal changes were confirmed by the analysis performed. Both lateral arms were classified as oligotrophic, reflecting low influence of the net cages. Phytoplankton growth seems to be limited by nitrogen. Biovolume values were, in general, low and five major functional groups were recognized (E, F, G, K and P). In summer higher biovolume values were observed and representatives of Chlorophyceae and Cyanobacteria belonging to the functional groups F and K, respectively, were the most important. In winter phytoplankton was mainly composed by Bacillariophyceae taxa from P group. G group was also restricted to winter and E group occurred in winter and summer. The variations recorded in phytoplankton structure appear to have been mainly influenced by seasonal changes in temperature, precipitation and nutrients availability. The effects of net cages on the abiotic variables and phytoplankton biovolume appear to have been small, probably due to the small number of net cages employed and the system dilution capacity. However, a permanent monitoring of phytoplankton is recommended, since this environment has a carrying capacity, from which the trophic state may increase.
