Abstract Paper aims Diagnostic analysis of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) based on Industry 4.0 requirements supported by the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. Originality The literature review found no research papers on PLM Maturity Models linked to requirements of Industry 4.0, attesting to the originality of the research and the topic proposed by the study. Research method The analysis is performed using an assessment framework that organizes and lists I4.0 attributes and PLM categories, supported by a multicriteria diagnostic assessment model based on the AHP method. The case study used in the research is an automotive industry located in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Main findings A diagnostic analysis of the PLM categories and attributes of the I4.0 was performed, and the company’s overall levels of maturity were observed. Implication for theory and practice The results obtained from the diagnostic analysis indicate that the company maturity is Level 2, analyses were also undertaken with respect to PLM categories and Industry 4.0 attributes. Proposals for improvements were made with the objective of increasing the level of maturity and reducing gaps and problems identified in the diagnostic assessment.

Abstract Nowadays, more and more scientific research activities are carried out in different laboratories and universities, which not only play an important role in the development of science and technology, but also show a significant inference on education. The improvement of the research capability of an academic faculty can directly impact the quality of education, bring innovations to Industrial Engineering curriculum proposals, and guarantee the subjects are up to date. The investigation of the existing issues in the current research activities is usually considered as the primary and challenging step. As the output of research activities, academic articles are often considered as a kind of evidence-based resources for the investigation. Despite some methodological efforts have been made by existing article review methods, less attention has been paid to discover the implicit academic relationships among the academic staffs and to investigate their research expertise. The objective of this study is to address this existing drawback through the proposition of an Academic Information Classification and Summarization method. A case study is carried out in the Industrial and System Engineering Graduate Program (PPGEPS), PUCPR, Brazil. The result not only highlights the advantages that can be obtained from this proposition from the education perspective related to Industrial Engineering, but also can be used as evidence to balance and compare an academic staff’s research expertise and his/her teaching disciplines.

Abstract Introduction: Human heart valves are used as replacement valves and have satisfactory functional results compared with conventional prostheses. Objective: Characterize the profile of effective heart donors from the human valve bank of the santa casa de misericórdia de curitiba and analyze the association between the profile variables. Methods: It consists of a retrospective and quantitative study of electronic medical records from heart donors for heart valves. every heart donation made to the bank between january 2004 and december 2014 was studied. Results: 2,149 donations were analyzed, from donors aged 0 to 71 years old, with an average of 34.9 ± 15.03 years old. most donors were male 65.7% (n=1,411) and 34.3% (n=738) were female. among the most frequent causes of the donors' death are trauma at 53% (n=1,139) and cerebral vascular accident at 34.2% (n=735). there was significant statistical association between the analyzed variables. Conclusion: There has been an improvement in brazil's donation rate, being essential that the tissue banks work together with the state and federal district centers for notification, procurement and distribution of organs in order to increase the number of donors.

A tecnologia de prototipagem de produtos por adição de material (Rapid Prototyping) e por remoção de material (Subtractive Rapid Prototyping) pode variar em: qualidade, tempo e custos, dependendo das características do produto. A escolha da tecnologia muitas vezes está condicionada à decisão empírica do designer/engenheiro ou operador, devido ao tipo de material, dimensão e precisão. Este artigo apresenta um método para tomada de decisão que auxilia a escolha da tecnologia de prototipagem rápida mais adequada na concepção de novos produtos. Foram utilizados os conceitos de DFM (Design for Manufacturing), CAD (Computer Aided Design), RPD (Rapid Product Development) e MAUT (Multiattribute Utility) em dois produtos de diferente estrutura e material (composto leve e simples maciço) para avaliar e validar o método proposto. Os resultados apresentam comparações entre as tecnologias de prototipagem rápida a partir de critérios para tomada de decisão, aperfeiçoando a concepção de protótipos mais eficientes.

The prototyping of products by additive material (Rapid Prototyping) and by subtractive material (Subtractive Rapid Prototyping) technology can vary in: quality, time and costs, depending on the product characteristics. The selection of technology often is conditioned to the designer/engineer or operator empirical decision due to the type of material, size and accuracy. This paper presents a method for decision making to assist the best choice of rapid prototyping technology on new product conception. We used the concepts of design for manufacturing (DFM), rapid product development (RPD) and computer aided design (CAD) for two products of different structure and material (lightweight dual and simple solid) to evaluate and validate the proposed method. The results show comparisons between the rapid prototyping technologies based on decision making, improving the conception of most efficient prototype.

Atualmente, as atividades de projeto devem ser muito bem orquestradas e integradas, proporcionando a evolução da filosofia da Engenharia Concorrente, onde decisões sobre diferentes aspectos relacionados ao ciclo de vida do produto devem ser consideradas simultaneamente. Porém, quando todo o projeto orientado para a manufatura é considerado, existem muitos aspectos que devem ser endereçados. Isso conduz à necessidade de sistemas de informações que sejam capazes de auxiliar múltiplas vistas do produto, onde cada vista provê a representação apropriada para auxiliar pelo menos uma perspectiva da manufatura. Essa pesquisa investigou o potencial do sistema baseado no Modelo do Produto para representar múltiplas vistas no Projeto orientado para a manufatura de produtos plásticos injetáveis e explorou em particular a vista da moldabilidade, do projeto do molde (cavidade) e da manufatura do molde (cavidade). A abordagem explorou estruturas de informações particulares para auxiliar cada aplicativo do Projeto Orientado para a Manufatura e um Modelo de Produto experimental foi implementado, utilizando um banco de dados orientado ao objeto.

Actually the activities of overall design must be well orchestrated and integrated which has led to the evolution of the philosophy of Concurrent Engineering where the decisions about different aspects related to the product's life cycle, must be considered simultaneously. However, when the full breadth of design for manufacture is considered there are many aspects that must be addressed. This leads to the need for information systems to be able to support multiple views of a product, where each view provides the appropriate representation to support at least one manufacturing perspective. This research has investigated the potential of product model based systems to support multiple viewpoints in Design for Manufacture. The research has focused on the design for manufacture of plastic injection moulded products and has explored the particular viewpoints of mouldability, mould design and mould manufacturing. The approach taken has been to explore particular information structures to support each Design for Manufacture application. An experimental Product Model has been implemented using an object-oriented database.
