Abstract Objective Testing an experimental model for ischemic necrosis of the femoral head in Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease by evaluating gait, imaging and morphohistology. Methods The operation was done in 11 piglets. Necrosis by cerclage in the right femoral neck was induced. Piglets were divided into group A, with 8 animals, euthanizing two in the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th weeks, respectively; and group B, with 2 animals (sham), submitted to the surgical procedure without cerclage of the right femoral neck. The gait classification used was that of Etterlin. The frozen femurs were submitted to digital radiography and computed tomography. The height and width of the epiphysis and epiphysary coefficient were measured at study times. Light microscopy and immunohistochemistry with TGF-β1 were performed. Results One animal died of sepsis in Group A. In this group, claudication was observed in all animals. On digital radiography and computed tomography, bone sclerosis, enlargement of the right femoral neck, flattening, collapse, and fragmentation of the right femoral head were observed. All epiphysis height and epiphysary coefficient values of the right femoral head were lower than the contralateral ones, in which were observed chondrocytes disordered and separated by gaps. A reduction in TGF-β1 expression was observed at 2 and 6 weeks in the right femoral head and at eight in the left. In group B, there were no signs of necrosis and gait was normal. Conclusions The model presented reproduced macroscopic necrosis on digital radiography, computed tomography, and microscopy. Gait evaluation showed a good correlation with other ischemia findings. Resumo Objetivo Testar um modelo experimental para necrose isquêmica da cabeça femoral na doença de Legg-Calvé-Perthes avaliando a marcha, exames de imagens e morfohistologia. Métodos Operaram-se 11 leitões. Induziu-se a necrose por cerclagem no colo femoral direito. Dividiram-se os leitões em grupo A com 8 animais, sacrificando-se dois na 2ª, 4ª, 6ª e 8ª semanas, respectivamente; e grupo B, com 2 animais (sham), submetidos ao procedimento cirúrgico sem a cerclagem do colo femoral direito. A classificação da marcha utilizada foi a de Etterlin. Os fêmures congelados foram submetidos à radiografia digital e tomografia computadorizada. Mediram-se a altura e largura da epífise e o coeficiente epifisário nos tempos de estudo. Realizou-se, microscopia de luz e imunohistoquímica com TGF-β1. Resultados Um animal morreu por sepse no grupo A. Neste grupo, observou-se claudicação em todos os animais. Na radiografia digital e tomografia computadorizada observaram-se: esclerose óssea, alargamento do colo femoral direito, achatamento, colapso e fragmentação da cabeça femoral direita. Todos os valores da altura da epífise e coeficiente epifisário da cabeça femoral direita foram menores que os contralaterais, nos quais observaram-se condrócitos desordenados e separados por lacunas. Observou-se redução da expressão do TGF-β1 com 2 e 6 semanas nas cabeças femorais direitas e nas esquerdas com oito. No grupo B, não ocorreram sinais de necrose e a marcha foi normal. Conclusões O modelo apresentado reproduziu a necrose macroscopicamente, na radiografia digital, tomografia computadorizada e microscopia. A avaliação da marcha demonstrou boa correlação com os demais achados de isquemia. Nível de EvidênciaV. Estudos diagnósticos.

Abstract Food processing allows a wide variation in the final quality of the product, which directly depends on the quality of the raw material used, the processing conditions, storage and commercialization. Salting, for example, is one of the oldest methods used to preserve meat. In the meat industry, the incorporation of salts into products is commonly used to improve dietary functionality and ensure food safety. Thus, the objective of this review was to understand that the discarded matrix meat can be used to make jerky meat, adding value to the final product. The processing of jerked beef is based on the osmotic dehydration process in counter flow, promoted by the penetration of salt with consequent exit of water from the inter and extra fibrillar compartments to the surface, with subsequent drying. At the same time, myosin denaturation occurs as a result of high temperatures, as well as myoglobin oxidation, promoted by salt, increasing the susceptibility to protein oxidation. The use of discarded animal meat to make jerky adds value to the by-product, improving sensory quality.

BACKGROUND According to the last 2023 Monkeypox (Mpox) Outbreak Global Map from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 100 countries with no Mpox infection report cases. Brazil stands out in this group and is the second country with the highest number of cases in the last outbreak. OBJECTIVE To contribute to knowledge of the virus infection effects in a cellular model, which is important for diagnosis infections not yet included in a provider´s differential diagnosis and for developing viral inhibition strategies. METHODS We describe a virus isolation protocol for a human clinical sample from a patient from Brazil, the viral growth in a cell model through plaque forming units (PFU) assay, reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). FINDINGS We follow the viral isolation in Vero cell culture from a Mpox positive clinically diagnosed sample and show the infection effects on cellular structures using a TEM. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Understanding the impact of viral growth on cellular structures and its replication kinetics may offer better strategies for the development of new drugs with antiviral properties.

Resumen Introducción: el trastorno mineral y óseo (TMO) es una complicación grave de la enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) que aumenta el riesgo de muerte por causas cardiovasculares y deteriora la calidad de vida de los pacientes afectados. Objetivo: evaluar la prevalencia de la DMO en pacientes con RDC y la asociación entre la tasa de filtración glomerular estimada (TFGe) y los indicadores de DMO (calcio, fósforo y PTH) en pacientes no dialíticos. Materiales y métodos: estudio seccional de una cohorte de dos años de pacientes renales crónicos adultos y ancianos en tratamiento conservador. La DMO se identificó por los valores séricos de: PTH (> 150 pg/mL) y/o hipocalcemia (Ca < 8,8mg/ dl) y/o hiperfosfatemia (P > 4,6 mg/dl). El análisis estadístico utilizado: regresión de Poisson; T de Student, Mann Whitney y correlaciones de Pearson y Spearman con un nivel de significación del 5%. Resultados: la prevalencia de DMO fue del 54,6% (n=41) (IC 95%: 43,45 - 65,43), más frecuente en mujeres, alfabetizadas, de edad avanzada, no bebedoras, no fumadoras, sedentarias y de color de piel blanca. Las correlaciones entre el P y la PTH con el GFRe fueron significativas, inversas, de fuerza moderada (p= <0,005 y p = 0,003; coeficientes de correlación = - 0,312 y - 0,379 respectivamente). Discusión: los resultados de este estudio evidencian lagunas en el seguimiento de la DMO-DRC por parte de la atención primaria, lo que requiere una revisión de las prácticas clínicas. Conclusión: se identificó una fuerte prevalencia de la DMO en las primeras fases de la ERC, además de correlaciones entre el aumento de los niveles de fósforo y PTH y el empeoramiento de la función renal.

Abstract Introduction: mineral and bone disorder (BMD) is a serious complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) that increases risks for death from cardiovascular causes and impairs quality of life of affected patients. Objective: to evaluate the prevalence of BMD in patients with CKD and the association between estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) and BMD indicators (calcium, phosphorus and PTH) in non-dialysis patients. Materials and Methods: sectional study of a two-year cohort of chronic renal adults and elderly patients on conservative treatment. BMD was identified by serum values of: PTH (> 150 pg/mL) and/or hypocalcemia (Ca < 8.8mg/dl) and/or hyperphosphatemia (P > 4.6 mg/dl). The statistical analysis used: Poisson regression; Student's T, Mann Whitney and Pearson and Spearman correlations with 5% significance level. Results: BMD prevalence was 54.6% (n=41) (95% CI: 43.45 - 65.43), more frequent in women, literate, elderly, non-drinkers, non-smokers, sedentary and white skin color. Correlations between P and PTH with GFRe were significant, inverse, moderate strength (p= <0.005 and p = 0.003; correlation coefficients = - 0.312 and - 0.379 respectively). the findings of this study highlighted gaps in the monitoring of BMD-DRC by primary care, requiring a review of clinical practices. Conclusion: robust prevalence of BMD in the early stages of CKD was identified, in addition to correlations between increased phosphorus and PTH levels and worsening kidney function.

Resumo Introdujo: o objetivo foi avaliar a prevalencia do distúrbio mineral e ósseo em pacientes com doenca renal crónica e a associate entre Taxa de Filtrado Glomerular estimada (TFGe) e os indicadores do distúrbio mineral e ósseo (DMO) (cálcio, fósforo e PTH) em pacientes renais crónicos nao dialíticos. Materiais e Métodos: estudo seccional da linha de base de uma coorte de dois anos, com adultos e idosos renais crónicos em tratamento conservador. Para identificado do DMO utilizamos os seguintes valores séricos: PTH (> 150 pg/mL) e/ou hipocalcemia (Ca < 8,8mg/dl) e/ou hiperfosfatemia (P > 4,6 mg/dl). Na análise estatística utilizou-se: regressao de Poisson; T de Student, Mann Whitney e correlacóes de Pearson e Spearman. Nivel de significancia foi de 5%. Resultados: prevalencia de DMO de 54,6% (n=41) (IC 95%: 43,45 - 65,43). A maior prevalencia de DMO foi em pessoas do sexo feminino, alfabetizadas, idosas, nao etilistas, nao tabagistas, sedentárias e de cor de pele branca, porém, sem diferenca estatística entre os grupos com e sem DMO. As correlacóes entre P e PTH com TFGe foram significativas, inversas, de forca moderada (p= <0,005 e p = 0,003; coeficientes de correlato = - 0,312 e - 0,379 respectivamente). Discussao: os achados desse estudo mostraram que existe uma lacuna no acompanhamento do DMO-DRC pela atencao primária e a prática clínica deve ser revista. Conclusao: identificou-se prevalencia robusta de DMO nos estágios precoces da DRC, além de correlacóes significativas entre o aumento dos níveis de fósforo e PTH e piora das funcóes renais.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar os impactos de uma possível reoneração das exportações, considerando uma abordagem de Equilíbrio Geral Computável inter-regional, com foco no estado de Minas Gerais. Os resultados sugerem que uma reoneração das vendas externas teria impacto negativo no nível de atividade econômica, uma vez que desestimularia exportações, gerando impactos negativos no nível de produção setorial, com queda no investimento e no consumo das famílias. Para Minas Gerais, os impactos negativos são maiores do que a média do Resto do Brasil, dado o perfil exportador do estado. Por outro lado, a receita arrecadada seria maior do que a queda no PIB, o que poderia auxiliar o ajuste fiscal pretendido no Estado. Uma simulação adicional mostra que a alocação da receita adicional em gasto público mais do que compensaria a perda de PIB gerada pela oneração.

Abstract The aim of the study is to evaluate the impacts of an export burden, considering an interregional Computable General Equilibrium approach, focusing on the state of Minas Gerais. The results suggest that a re-tariffing of foreign sales would have a negative impact on the economic activity, as it would discourage exports, generating negative impacts on the level of sectoral production, with a decrease in investment and household consumption. For Minas Gerais, the negative impacts are greater than the rest of Brazil average, given the state's export profile. On the other hand, the revenue collected would be greater than the fall in GDP, which could help the intended fiscal adjustment in the state. An additional simulation shows that allocating additional revenue to public spending would more than offset the loss of GDP.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Dengue epidemics impose a significant burden on health services, in addition to the economic loss caused by temporary leaves from work or deaths, which interferes in the economic performance of countries. Objective: To analyze the demographic, social and epidemiological profile of dengue cases in the population of Contagem-MG; and to evaluate climatic factors in order to provide tools for planning public health strategies. Methods: An ecological study was conducted from a time series between 2013 and 2017 in Contagem-MG municipality from Brazil. Results: The most affected groups were women, adults, mestizos, people with few years of schooling, and those living in peripheral regions. More than 99% of the people suffered from dengue without warning signs. Rain does not seem to be a determinant factor in the increase on the number of cases, since it rained every year. Conclusions: To better fight against dengue seasonal epidemics, the strategic planning approach is suggested, with the selection and definition of methodologies for planning an intersectoral strategy to solve recurrent events. This could increase the efficiency of public policies and, therefore, the possibility of successful public management in the reduction of inequities.

RESUMEN Introducción: Las epidemias de dengue imponen una carga importante a los servicios de salud, además de la pérdida económica ocasionada por bajas temporales del trabajo o por años de vidas perdidas como consecuencia de la muerte, lo que interfiere en el desempeño de las economías de los países. Objetivo: Analizar el perfil demográfico, social y epidemiológico de los casos de dengue en la población de Contagem-MG, además de evaluar los factores climáticos con el fin de brindar herramientas para la planificación de estrategias de salud pública. Método: Se realizó un estudio ecológico, a partir de una serie de tiempo, entre los años 2013 a 2017, en el municipio de Contagem-MG en Brasil. Resultados: Los grupos más afectados fueron las mujeres, adultos, mestizos, individuos con pocos años de estudio y los que vivían en regiones periféricas. Más del 99 % de las personas tenía dengue sin signos de alarma. Las lluvias no parecen haber sido determinantes para el aumento del número de casos, dado que hubo lluvias en todos los años. Conclusiones: Para mejorar la lucha contra las epidemias estacionales de dengue, se sugiere el enfoque de planificación estratégica, con la elección y definición de metodologías para planificar una estrategia intersectorial en la solución de situaciones recurrentes. Así se puede incrementar la eficiencia de las políticas públicas y, por ende, las posibilidades de una gestión pública exitosa en la reducción de inequidades.

Resumo O presente estudo objetivou analisar diferentes metodologias indiretas para mensuração da erodibilidade do solo, bem como caracterizar a sua variabilidade espacial na Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Pântano (BHRP), Mato Grosso do Sul. Avaliou-se nove metodologias/adaptações aplicadas aos dados de 103 amostras de solo abrangendo os principais tipos existentes na bacia. Os dados passaram por uma proposta de validação e posteriormente por análise estatística descritiva e de correlação. Realizou-se também a análise da dependência espacial e mapeamento por krigagem. As metodologias que melhor representaram a erodibilidade do solo na BHRP foram dadas pelas propostas de Sharpley e Williams (Latossolos Vermelho-Escuros e Planossolos), Wischmeier e Smith (Latossolos Roxos) e, Renard (Podzólicos Vermelho-Escuros e Vermelho-Amarelos). O mapa final, indicou erodibilidade média (46,4% da BHRP), baixa (45,1%), muito baixa 0,5% e, muito alta 7,9% da área da bacia. Concluiu-se que o uso de uma única metodologia pode subestimar ou superestimar a erodibilidade do solo.

Abstract The present study analyzed different indirect methodologies for measuring soil erodibility and characterized the spatial variability of soil credibility in the Pântano River Hydrographic Basin (PRHB), state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Nine methodologies/adaptations were tested in 103 soil samples collected covering the main soil types in the hydrographic basin. The data were submitted to a validation proposal and underwent descriptive and correlation statistical analyses. A spatial dependence analysis and mapping by kriging was also carried out. The methodologies that best represented the erodibility estimates at PRHB were those by Sharpley and Williams (Latossolos Vermelho-Escuros [Oxisols] and Planossolos [Alfisols]), Wischmeier and Smith (Latossolos Roxos [Oxisols]), and Renard (Podzólicos Vermelho-Escuros and Podzólicos Vermelho-Amarelos [Ultisols]). The final map indicated erodibility medium (46.4% of PRHB), low (45.1%), very low (0.5%) and very high (7.9%). The findings indicated that the use of a single indirect methodology may underestimate or overestimate the soil erodibility.

Resumen El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar diferentes metodologías indirectas para medir la erosionabilidad del suelo, así como caracterizar su variabilidad espacial mediante el uso de técnicas geoestadísticas. Para ello, se adoptó como estudio de caso la Cuenca del Río Pântano (CRP) en el estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Las metodologías que mejor representaron las estimaciones de la erosionabilidad em la CRP fueron las propuestas de Sharpley y Williams (Latossolo Rojo Distrófico Álico y Planossolo Álico), Wischmeier y Smith (Latossolo Rojo Distrófico) y Renard (Argissolo Rojo Distrófico y Argissolo Rojo-Amarillo). El mapa final, que se compuso de un mosaico de las metodologías que mejor representaban cada tipo de suelo, indicó las siguientes clases de erosionabilidad: medio (46,4% de la CRP, predominantemente en Argissolos Rojos); bajo (45,1%, predominantemente en Latossolos); muy bajo 0,5% y muy alto 7,9% de la cuenca (predominantemente en Argissolos Rojo-Amarillos).

Abstract INTRODUCTION: This epidemiological household survey aimed to estimate the prevalence of the current and past SARS-CoV-2 infections in Ribeirão Preto, a municipality of southeast Brazil. METHODS: The survey was conducted in two phases using a clustered sampling scheme. The first phase spanned May 1-3 and involved 709 participants. The second phase spanned June 11-14, 2020, and involved 646 participants. RESULTS: During the first phase, RT-PCR performed on nasopharyngeal swabs was positive at 0.14%. The serological tests were positive in 1.27% of the patients during the first phase and 2.79% during the second phase. People living in households with more than five members had a prevalence of 10.83% (95%CI: 1.58-74.27) higher than those living alone or with someone other. Considering the proportion of the positive serological test results with sex and age adjustments, approximately 2.37% (95%CI: 1.32-3.42) of the population had been cumulatively infected by mid-June 2020, which is equivalent to 16,670 people (95%CI: 9,267-24,074). Considering that 68 deaths from the disease in the residents of the city had been confirmed as at the date of the second phase of the survey, the infection fatality rate was estimated to be 0.41% (95%CI: 0.28-0.73). Our results suggest that approximately 88% of the cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection at the time of the survey were not reported to the local epidemiological surveillance service. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study provide in-depth knowledge of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil and are helpful for the preventive and decision-making policies of public managers.

RESUMO: O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar índices de vegetação (IV) para detecção do status nutricional do milho com relação ao nitrogênio e potássio por meio de imagens aéreas obtidas por câmera RGB embarcada em veículo aéreo não tripulado. As imagens foram adquiridas em ensaio de níveis de nitrogênio (0, 60, 120 e 180 kg ha-1) e potássio (0, 50, 100 e 150 kg ha-1), em blocos ao acaso, fatorial 4 x 4, com três repetições. Coletaram-se dez folhas por parcela na fase de florescimento para avaliação do teor foliar de N total (NF) e K+. Efetuou-se análise de correlação de Pearson, análise de variância e de regressão entre os IV e os níveis de N e de K2O. NF, K+ e a produtividade de grãos responderam apenas aos níveis de N no solo. Houve correlação significativa para os índices Excess Red Index, Normalized Difference Index e Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index com o NF, que os credencia como promissores na detecção do status nutricional do milho em relação ao N. Nenhum dos índices avaliados foi capaz de detectar o status nutricional do milho com relação ao potássio.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study is to determine the vegetation indices (IV) as a means of identifying the nutritional status of corn, with respect to the soil nitrogen and potassium, using the aerial images received through an RGB camera loaded on an unmanned aerial vehicle. The images were obtained for an experiment of the nitrogen levels (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1) and potassium levels (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1), in the random block design, with a factorial scheme of 4 x 4, having three repetitions. Ten leaves were plucked per plot during the flowering phase to assess the total N (NF) and K+ leaf contents. The Pearson’s correlation analysis, as well as the analyses of variance and regression between the IV and the concentrations of N and K2O. NF, K+ and the grain yield, responded only to the soil N levels. A significant correlation was observed for the indices of Red Index, Normalized Difference Index and Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index with the NF, which endorses them as favorable in identifying the nutritional standing of corn, with respect to the N level. Not even a single one of the indices evaluated could detect the nutritional ranking of corn in the context of the potassium level.

RESUMO Objetivou-se empregar Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA) como ferramenta exploratória dos dados espectrais de absorbância de solos do Maciço de Baturité e do Sertão Central (Ceará, Brasil), para verificar a potencialidade da técnica na caracterização dos solos. Foram analisadas 46 amostras oriundas de solos de diferentes áreas (cultivadas e nativas). Cada amostra foi analisada em duas granulometrias, 2 e 0,2 mm. Os dados espectrais foram obtidos pela espectroscopia no infravermelho próximo (NIR), selecionando-se a faixa 1.360 a 2.260 nm (2.376 variáveis). Avaliou-se três pré-tratamentos dos dados: correção do espalhamento de luz (MSC), 1ª e 2ª derivadas Savitzky-Golay. Foram observadas as bandas de absorção: 1.414 nm (C-H combinação de estiramento e deformação), 1.450 nm (O-H associado à cadeia carbônica), 1.780 nm (2º sobreton C-H), 1.928 nm (O-H associado à água molecular) e 2.208 nm (C-H estiramento e C=O combinação). O melhor pré-tratamento foi verificado usando apenas a correção de espalhamento de luz (MSC). Dois componentes principais explicaram 98% da variabilidade dos dados, sendo que a primeira componente principal (PC1) foi relacionada com a banda característica de umidade, com valores negativos na região de 1.928 nm, enquanto a segunda componente principal (PC2) foi relacionada à matéria orgânica total (MO) oriunda das ligações C-H, C=O e N-H, região do comprimento de onda 1.414 nm. A PCA permitiu caracterizar as amostras quanto a umidade e teores de MO, destacando-se os solos sob sistema agroflorestal irrigado com maiores valores de umidade e MO, enquanto o solo em processo de degradação apresentou menores valores para estes atributos. A espectroscopia NIR associada às ferramentas de tratamentos de dados (PCA e MSC) permite identificar alterações em atributos do solo, como umidade e MO.

ABSTRACT This research aimed to use principal component analysis (PCA) as an exploratory method for spectral data of soil absorbance from the Baturité Massif and Central Hinterland (Ceará State, Brazil) to verify the potential of the technique in soil characterization. We analyzed 46 soil samples from different areas (native and cultivated). Each sample was analyzed in two particle sizes: 2 and 0.2 mm. We obtained spectral data by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR), selecting the 1,360-2,260 nm range (2,376 variables). We evaluated three data pretreatment methods: multiplicative scatter correction (MSC), first derivative, and second derivative of the Savitzky-Golay filter. The absorption bands observed were: 1,414 nm (C-H stretching and deformation combination), 1,450 nm (O-H associated with the carbon chain), 1,780 nm (second overtone of C-H), 1,928 nm (O-H associated with molecular water), and 2,208 nm (C-H stretch and C=O combination). The best pretreatment was verified using only the multiplicative scatter correction (MSC). Two principal components explained 98% of the data variability, being the first principal component (PC1) related to the characteristic band of moisture, with negative values in the 1,928 nm region, while the second principal component (PC2) was related to the total organic matter (OM) originating from the C-H, C=O, and N-H bonds, wavelength region 1,414 nm. The PCA allowed characterizing the samples in terms of moisture and OM contents, with emphasis on soils under irrigated agroforestry system with higher values of moisture and OM, while the soil in degradation process presented lower values for these attributes. The NIR spectroscopy, associated with data processing methods (PCA and MSC), allows identifying changes in soil attributes, such as moisture and OM.

RESUMO O feijão-caupi é uma leguminosa de grande importância socioeconômica para as regiões Norte e Nordeste do Brasil. Entretanto, ainda necessita de mais estudos que avaliem seu desempenho produtivo quando cultivado em regime irrigado e sob diferentes densidades de plantas. Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar os efeitos de diferentes regimes hídricos e densidades de plantas na produtividade de grãos, componentes de produção e eficiência do uso de água, bem como a correlação da produtividade de grãos com os componentes de produção da cultivar de feijão-caupi BRS Tumucumaque. O experimento foi conduzido na área experimental da Embrapa Meio-Norte, Teresina, Piauí, de junho a setembro de 2017, em um Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo eutrófico. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados, sob esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições, em que os regimes hídricos ocuparam as parcelas (187,7; 233,5; 263,5 e 288,7 mm) e as densidades de plantas, as subparcelas (12; 16; 20 e 24 plantas m-2). Foram avaliados o número de vagens por planta, o número de vagens por metro quadrado, o comprimento de vagens, a produtividade de grãos secos e a eficiência de uso da água. A máxima produtividade de grãos foi de 1.694,46 kg ha-1 com aplicação da lâmina de 288,7 mm e a densidade de 20,4 plantas m-2. O componente de produção número de vagens por metro quadrado foi o que mais se correlacionou com a produtividade de grãos.

ABSTRACT Cowpea is a legume of great socioeconomic importance for the North and Northeast regions of Brazil. However, studies to evaluate its production performance when cultivated under irrigated regime and under different plant densities are necessary. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of different water regimes and different plant densities on grain yield, production components and water use efficiency, and on the correlation between grain yield and production components of BRS Tumucumaque cowpea cultivar. The experiment was carried out at Embrapa Meio-Norte experimental area, in Teresina, Piauí State, Brazil, from June to September 2017, in an Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo eutrófico (Ultisol). A randomized complete block design was used, in a split-plot scheme with four replicates, in which the water regimes occupied the plots (187.7; 233.5; 263.5 and 288.7 mm) and plant densities, the subplots (12; 16; 20 and 24 plants m-2). The number of pods per plant, number of pods per square meter, pod length, dry grain yield and water use efficiency were evaluated. The maximum dry grain yield reached was 1,694.46 kg ha-1, with application of 288.7 mm and density of 20.4 plants m-2. The production component number of pods per square meter was the most correlated with dry grain yield.

BACKGROUND The evaluation of procedures for drug susceptibility prediction of Mycobacterium tuberculosis based on genomic data against the conventional reference method test based on culture is realistic considering the scenario of growing number of tools proposals based on whole-genome sequences (WGS). OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate drug susceptibility testing (DST) outcome based on WGS tools and the phenotypic methods performed on isolates of M. tuberculosis Lineage 1 from the state of Pará, Brazil, generally associated with low levels of drug resistance. METHODOLOGY Culture based DST was performed using the Proportion Method in Löwenstein-Jensen medium on 71 isolates that had been submitted to WGS. We analysed the seven main genome sequence-based tools for resistance and lineage prediction applied to M. tuberculosis and for comparison evaluation we have used the Kappa concordance test. FINDINGS When comparing the WGS-based tools against the DST, we observed the highest level of agreement using TB-profiler. Among the tools, TB-profiler, KvarQ and Mykrobe were those which identified the largest number of TB-MDR cases. Comparing the four most sensitive tools regarding resistance prediction, agreement was observed for 43 genomes. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Drug resistance profiling using next-generation sequencing offers rapid assessment of resistance-associated mutations, therefore facilitating rapid access to effective treatment.

RESUMO Objetivo Correlacionar a prevalência e o prognóstico de cada padrão de TCAR de pneumonia intersticial usual (PIU) típica, provável e indeterminada com o diagnóstico clínico multidisciplinar de doença pulmonar intersticial (DPI). Métodos Incluímos todos os pacientes com diagnóstico multidisciplinar de DPI com padrão de TCAR de PIU típica, PIU provável ou indeterminada para PIU. Dados clínicos e histopatológicos, teste de função pulmonar e status de sobrevida foram obtidos retrospectivamente. O diagnóstico final foi validado por uma equipe multidisciplinar. Resultados Foram incluídos no estudo 244 pacientes, com média de idade de 68 ± 13 anos sendo 52,5% do sexo masculino. Em um total de 106 pacientes com padrão típico de PIU, 62% tiveram o diagnóstico multidisciplinar de FPI, 20% de pneumonia por hipersensibilidade crônica (PHC) e 10% de DPI relacionada à doença do tecido conjuntivo (DPI-DTC). Dos 114 casos com provável PIU, DPI-DTC correspondeu a 39%, FPI a 31%, pneumonia intersticial descamativa a 11%, doença pulmonar relacionada a medicamentos a 9% e PHC a 8%. Nos 24 pacientes com TC indeterminada para PIU, o DPI-DTC foi o diagnóstico final em 33%, seguido por pneumonia intersticial descamativa (21%) e FPI (13%). Pacientes com PIU típica apresentaram maior probabilidade de morrer ou realizar transplante de pulmão no seguimento (17,9% e 11,3%, respectivamente). Conclusões FPI, PHC e DPI-DTC foram os principais diagnósticos diferenciais em pacientes com padrão de TCAR de PIU típica, provável e indeterminada. Pacientes com padrão de PIU típico na TCAR tiveram maior probabilidade de morrer ou realizar transplante de pulmão no seguimento.

ABSTRACT Objective To correlate the prevalence and prognosis of each HRCT pattern of typical, probable, and indeterminate usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) with the clinical multidisciplinary diagnosis of interstitial lung disease (ILD). Methods We included all patients with a multidisciplinary diagnosis of ILD with an HRCT pattern of typical UIP, probable UIP, or indeterminate for UIP. Clinical and histopathological data, pulmonary function tests, and survival status were retrospectively obtained. The final diagnosis was validated by a multidisciplinary team. Results A total of 244 patients were included in the study, with a mean age of 68 ±13 years and being 52.5% males. In a total of 106 patients with typical UIP pattern, 62% had the multidisciplinary diagnosis of IPF, 20% had chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (CHP), and 10% had connective tissue disease-related ILD (CTD-ILD). Out of the 114 cases with probable UIP, CTD-ILD corresponded to 39%, IPF to 31%, desquamative interstitial pneumonia to 11%, drug-related lung disease to 9%, and CHP to 8%. In the 24 patients with CT indeterminate for UIP, CTD-ILD was the final diagnosis in 33%, followed by desquamative interstitial pneumonia (21%), and IPF (13%). Patients with typical UIP were more likely to die or had lung transplantation in the follow-up (17.9% and 11.3%, respectively). Conclusion IPF, CHP, and CTD-ILD were the main differential diagnoses in patients with HRCT patterns of typical, probable and indeterminate UIP. Patients with HRCT typical UIP pattern were more likely to die or had lung transplantation in the follow-up.

RESUMO Propor faixas de suficiência e níveis críticos é uma técnica importante para a avaliação correta do diagnóstico foliar. Neste estudo, o objetivo foi propor níveis críticos e faixas de suficiência de macro e micronutrientes para o diagnóstico da folha do feijão-caupi, coletadas na floração, com os resultados de macro e micronutrientes e produtividade no Nordeste do Brasil. O nível crítico foi calculado pela distribuição normal reduzida e pelo método da linha de fronteira, que também foi usado para gerar faixas de suficiência. Para o nível crítico por distribuição normal reduzida, foi adotada a relação dos nutrientes com 90% da produtividade máxima. Para a linha de fronteira, a relação dos nutrientes que estão na linha superior de um diagrama de dispersão foi considerada. Os níveis críticos pela distribuição normal reduzida de nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P), potássio (K), cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg), cobre (Cu), ferro (Fe), manganês (Mn) e zinco ( Zn) são: 35,3 g kg-1, 1,8 g kg-1, 20,5 g kg-1, 11,1 g kg-1, 2,6 g kg-1, 3,2 mg kg-1, 105 mg kg-1, 89 mg kg-1 e 22 mg kg-1, respectivamente. No entanto, os níveis críticos gerados pela linha de fronteira para N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn são 39,5 g kg-1, 2,3 g kg-1, 21,2 g kg-1, 11,3 g kg-1, 2,9 g kg-1, 4,2 mg kg-1, 142 mg kg-1, 143 mg kg-1 e 24 mg kg-1, respectivamente. As faixas de suficiência pelo método da linha de fronteira, para atingir 95% da produtividade máxima, são equivalentes a 34,4-44,7 g kg-1, 1,7-2,9 g kg-1, 18,6-23,6 g kg-1, 8,8-13,7 g kg-1, 2,3-3,5 g kg-1, 3,1-5,4 mg kg-1, 73-210 mg kg-1, 104-181 mg kg-1 e 22-27 mg kg-1 para N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT Proposing sufficiency ranges and critical levels is an important technique for correct evaluation of leaf nutrient diagnosis. In this study, the objective was to propose critical levels and sufficiency ranges of macro- and micronutrients for the diagnostic leaf of cowpea, collected at flowering, with the results of macro- and micronutrients and productivity in the Northeast of Brazil. The critical level was calculated by the reduced normal distribution and by the boundary line method, which was also used to generate sufficiency ranges. For the critical level by reduced normal distribution, the relationship of the nutrients with 90% of maximum productivity was adopted. For the boundary line, the relationship of the nutrients that are in the upper line of a dispersion diagram was considered. The critical levels by reduced normal distribution for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) are: 35.3 g kg-1, 1.8 g kg-1, 20.5 g kg-1, 11.1 g kg-1, 2.6 g kg-1, 3.2 mg kg-1, 105 mg kg-1, 89 mg kg-1and 22 mg kg-1, respectively. However, the critical levels generated by the boundary line for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn are 39.5 g kg-1, 2.3 g kg-1, 21.2 g kg-1, 11.3 g kg-1, 2.9 g kg-1, 4.2mg kg-1, 142 mg kg-1, 143mg kg-1 and 24 mg kg-1, respectively. The sufficiency ranges by the boundary line method, to achieve 95% of maximum productivity, are equivalent to 34.4-44.7g kg-1, 1.7-2.9 g kg-1,18.6-23.6 g kg-1,8.8-13.7 g kg-1,2.3-3.5 g kg-1,3.1-5.4 mg kg-1,73-210 mg kg-1,104-181 mg kg-1 and 22-27 mg kg-1 for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, respectively.

RESUMO A resinose é uma das principais doenças do cajueiro no semiárido nordestino e caracteriza-se pelo declínio das plantas e redução do estande. Lasiodiplodia theobromae, agente causal, é um fungo endofítico que, eventualmente, assume o caráter patogênico, entretanto, as condições de ambiente que provocam esta mudança de comportamento ainda são desconhecidas. Presume-se que estresses no hospedeiro provocados por mudanças ambientais estimulam a patogenicidade. Este trabalho teve como objetivo estabelecer relações entre fatores climáticos e geográficos com a ocorrência da resinose. Foram comparados os dados de precipitação pluviométrica, temperaturas máxima e mínima, amplitude térmica e altitude de 14 microrregiões nordestinas classificadas em cinco frequências de ocorrência da doença: 0 (sem ocorrência), 1 (ocorrência rara), 2 (ocorrência frequente) e 3 (ocorrência generalizada) 4 (ocorrência generaliza em alta severidade). Os dados foram submetidos à análise de normalidade multivariada pelo teste de Doornik e Hansen e a análise dos componentes principais foi realizada por meio da matriz de correlação das variáveis climáticas, geográficas e da ocorrência da doença. As áreas de severidade da doença foram correlacionadas (Correlação de Pearson). Somente, a amplitude térmica, altitude e latitude foram associadas às diferentes áreas de ocorrência da resinose. Os municípios Buíque, em Pernambuco, São Raimundo Nonato, Canto do Buriti e Pio IX, no Piauí, em que ocorre a maior incidência da doença apresentaram os maiores valores de amplitude térmica, altitude e latitude. Enquanto que, os municípios Pacajus e Beberibe tiverem menores ocorrências da resinose e apresentaram os menores valores de amplitude térmica, altitude e latitude.

ABSTRACT Cashew gummosis is one of the main diseases of the cashew in the semi-arid region of the northeast and is characterised by a decline in the plants and a reduction in stand. Lasiodiplodia theobromae, the causal agent, is an endophytic fungus that eventually takes on pathogenic characteristics; however, the environmental conditions that cause this change in behaviour are still unknown. It is assumed that stress in the host caused by environmental changes stimulate pathogenicity. The aim of this study was to define the relationship between climate and geographical factors and the occurrence of gummosis. Rainfall data, maximum and minimum temperature, thermal amplitude, and the altitude of 14 micro-regions in the northeast were compared and classified into five frequencies of disease occurrence: 0 (no occurrence), 1 (rare occurrence), 2 (frequent occurrence), 3 ( generalised occurrence) and 4 (generalised high-severity occurrence). The data were submitted to the Doornik-Hansen test for multivariate normality, and principal component analysis was carried out using the correlation matrix between the climate and geographical variables and occurrence of the disease. Areas of disease severity were correlated (Pearson’s correlation). Only thermal amplitude, altitude and latitude were associated with the different areas of gummosis occurrence. The districts of Buíque, in the state of Pernambuco, and São Raimundo Nonato, Canto do Buriti and Pio IX, in Piauí, with the highest incidence of the disease, had the highest values for thermal amplitude, altitude and latitude. Whereas the districts of Pacajus and Beberibe had a lower occurrence of gummosis, with lower values for thermal amplitude, altitude and latitude.
