ABSTRACT COVID-19 has impacted the Indigenous Amazonian communities of Peru for two consecutive years, compelling them to recover traditional knowledge, practices and strategies to combat it. We present the plant and animal species used by two Ticuna communities in the Peruvian Amazon during the COVID-19 pandemic, describing the preparation and administration of the preparations. The information was obtained through semi-structured interviews with men and women from the communities during the first two waves of the pandemic, from May 2020 to June 2021. The interviews were conducted face-to-face, during fieldwork carried out in the communities, and virtual, using the telephone and messaging applications available in the communities or in the nearby major population centers. During fieldwork in Nueva Galilea, visits were made to the collection points of the plant species. Fourteen plant species and three animal species used in the pandemic were identified. The most commonly used parts of the plant species, in order of importance, were the leaves, roots, bulbs and fruits, prepared fresh, and in the form of infusions, baths, and steam inhalations. It is evident how traditional knowledge in the use of plants and animals that heal, in an integrated manner with the appropriation of external knowledge, is still vital in Ticuna communities. Knowledge about the healing properties of fourteen plant species and three identified animal species has made it possible to combat the symptoms of a very aggressive disease.

RESUMEN El COVID-19 golpeó las comunidades indígenas amazónicas del Perú durante dos años, fomentando la recuperación de conocimientos, prácticas y estrategias tradicionales para combatir sus síntomas. Presentamos las especies de plantas y animales usadas por dos comunidades ticuna del bajo Amazonas peruano durante la pandemia del COVID-19, describiendo la forma de preparación y administración de los preparados. La información se obtuvo a partir de entrevistas semiestructuradas a hombres y mujeres de las comunidades durante las dos primeras olas de la pandemia, de mayo del 2020 a junio del 2021. Las entrevistas fueron presenciales, en los trabajos de campo realizados en las comunidades, y virtuales, usando la vía telefónica y aplicaciones de mensajería disponibles en las comunidades o en los centros poblados mayores cercanos. Durante los trabajos de campo en Nueva Galilea se realizaron visitas a los puntos de colecta de las especies vegetales. Se identificaron catorce especies de plantas y tres especies de animales usados en la pandemia. Las partes más usadas de las especies vegetales, en orden de importancia fueron las hojas, las raíces, los bulbos y los frutos, realizándose preparados en forma de infusiones, al fresco, en baños y en inhalaciones de vapor. Se evidencia cómo el conocimiento tradicional en el uso de las plantas y animales que curan, de manera integrada con la apropiación de conocimientos externos, sigue vigente en las comunidades ticuna. El conocimiento sobre las propiedades curativas de catorce especies de plantas y tres especies animales identificadas ha permitido combatir los síntomas de una enfermedad muy agresiva.

Resumo Calophyllaceae está representada na Reserva Ducke por dez espécies pertencentes aos seguintes gêneros: Calophyllum (C. brasiliense), Caraipa (C. costata, C. grandifolia subsp. grandifolia, C. heterocarpa, C. odorata, C. punctulata, C. rodriguesii, C. valioi), Clusiella (C. axillaris) e Haploclathra (H. paniculata). Apresentamos descrições para os gêneros e espécies, chaves de identificação e comentários sobre distribuição geográfica e fenologia.

Abstract Calophyllaceae is represented in Reserva Ducke by ten species belonging to the following genera: Calophyllum (C. brasiliense), Caraipa (C. costata, C. grandifolia subsp. grandifolia, C. heterocarpa, C. odorata, C. punctulata, C. rodriguesii, C. valioi), Clusiella (C. axillaris), and Haploclathra (H. paniculata). We present descriptions for the genera and species, identification keys, and comments on the geographical distribution and phenology.

Resumo O presente trabalho tem como objetivo contribuir para o conhecimento das espécies de Metteniusaceae ocorrentes na Reserva Ducke. O estudo tem por base a análise morfológica de materiais depositados em herbários e revisão de literatura. Cinco espécies foram registradas: Dendrobangia boliviana, Emmotum acuminatum, E. amazonicum, Poraqueiba guianensis e P. sericea. Chave para identificação, descrições, ilustrações, dados sobre habitat, fenologia e distribuição geográfica das espécies são apresentados.

Abstract The present work aims to improve the knowledge of the Metteniusaceae species found in Reserva Ducke. The study is based on morphological analysis of material deposited in herbaria and literature revision. Five species were recorded: Dendrobangia boliviana, Emmotum acuminatum, E. amazonicum, Poraqueiba guianensis and P. sericea. An identification key, descriptions, illustrations, data on habitat, phenology, and species geographic distribution are provided.

Resumo Este estudo apresenta o tratamento florístico das espécies de Vitaceae que ocorrem na Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, Amazonas, Brasil. Coletas provenientes da Reserva Ducke foram analisadas a partir de exsicatas depositadas no herbário INPA. Foram registradas duas espécies do gênero Cissus para a reserva, Cissus erosa e C. verticillata subsp. verticillata. Apresentamos descrições das espécies, comentários taxonômicos, ilustrações, informação sobre hábitat, distribuição geográfica e uma chave de identificação para as espécies.

Abstract This study presents the floristic treatment for the species of Vitaceae occurring in the Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, Amazonas, Brazil. Collections from the Reserva Ducke were analyzed from specimens deposited at the INPA herbarium. Two species of the genus Cissus were recorded, Cissus erosa and C. verticillata subsp. verticillata. We present species descriptions, taxonomic comments, illustrations, habitat information, geographic distribution, and an identification key for the species.

Resumo O presente trabalho tem como objetivo contribuir para o conhecimento das espécies de Icacinaceae ocorrentes na Reserva Ducke. O estudo tem por base a análise morfológica de materiais depositados em herbários e revisão de literatura. Três espécies pertencentes a dois gêneros foram registradas: Casimirella rupestris, Pleurisanthes emarginata e P. parviflora. Casimirella rupestris é falcilmente diferenciada das espécies de Pleurisanthes por apresentar ramos cobertos por tricomas estrelados e inflorescência em panícula (vs. ramos glabros ou puberulentos em Pleurisanthes), enquantos as espécies de Pleurisanthes se diferenciam entre si pela margem da folhas (denticulada em P. emarginata vs. inteira em P. parviflora) e ápice da folha (rotunda em P. emarginata vs. acuminada-unguiculada em P. parviflora). Chave para identificação, descrições, ilustrações, dados sobre habitat, fenologia e distribuição geográfica das espécies são apresentados.

Abstract This study aims to improve the knowledge of the Icacinaceae species found in Reserva Ducke. It is based on morphological analysis of herbaria collections and literature compilation. Three species which belongs to two genera were recorded: Casimirella rupestris, Pleurisanthes emarginata and P. parviflora. Casimirella rupestris differs from Pleurisanthes by its stems with stellate trichomes and paniculate inflorescence (vs. globrous or puberulent stems and “spigate” inflorescente in Pleurisanthes), while Pleurisanthes species differs from each other by the leaf margin (denticulate in P. emarginata vs. entire in P. parviflora) and leaf apex (rotund in P. emarginata vs. acuminate-unguiculate in P. parviflora). An identification key, descriptions, illustrations, habitat information, phenology, and species distribution are also provided.

Between 2000 and 2016 we carried out 15 rapid biological inventories in remote areas of the Andean foothills and Amazon basin in Peru. During these inventories, 27 botanists collected 9397 fertile vascular plant specimens. By the end of 2017, more than half of these specimens had been identified to species. Of the 2303 species identified to date, 64 species and 2 genera (Dicorynia and Monopteryx) are new records for the flora of Peru. If this rate of discovery proves typical, the number of new records for Peru in the rapid inventory material could increase, which indicates that there is still much to discover in the Peruvian flora.

Durante el período 2000 - 2016, se llevaron a cabo 15 inventarios biológicos en áreas remotas en el pie de monte andino y el llano amazónico del Perú. En estos inventarios, 27 botánicos colectaron un total de 9397 especímenes de plantas vasculares fértiles. Hasta finales del 2017, más de la mitad de estos especímenes se han identificado a nivel de especie, de los cuales 64 especies y 2 géneros (Dicorynia y Monopteryx) representan nuevos registros para la flora del Perú. Si esta tasa de novedades se mantiene, el número de registros nuevos en el material de los inventarios podría aumentar, lo cual nos indica que aún queda mucho por descubrir en la flora andino-amazónica del Perú.
