ABSTRACT The insertion of the tree component in coffee production is a strategy from an economic and environmental perspective. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the temporal influence on the agronomic and productive performance of the coffee crop under the interference of different tree species as a function of spacing. The experiment was set in the municipality of Santo Antônio de Amparo-MG, in 2012, and conducted in a randomized block design with four replications. The treatments were: cultivar ‘Catuai Vermelho IAC 99’ in monoculture (3.40 m x 0.65 m) and intercropped with African mahogany, teak and pink cedar, in two spacings (9 x 13.6 m and 18 x 13.6 m), in coffee rows. Three coffee rows were fixed between rows, totaling 13.6 m. The following variables were evaluated: height (m), stem diameter (cm), crown diameter (m), productivity (bags ha-1) and yield (l/sc) for coffee. From the evaluations, there is a significant effect of height, productivity and yield for the coffee crop. The system intercropped with tree species did not influence coffee productivity and yield until the 3rd harvest and, for the 5th harvest, intercropping with mahogany favored productivity, although the accumulated productivity did not show any treatment effect.

ABSTRACT This research is related to the evaluation of vegetative growth parameters, initial yield and incidence of pests and diseases of twelve Arabica coffee cultivars submitted to the subtropical humidity environment of Vale do Ribeira Paulista, Brazil. The experiment was performed in the Experimental Campus of the UNESP in Registro, in a randomized block design, with three replications. Stem diameter, number of plagiotropic branches, plant height, number of internodes of plagiotropic branches, length of the first plagiotropic branch, incidence of brown eye spot and phoma leaf spot on coffee leaves, infestation by leaf miner and the yield of cultivars were evaluated. The results obtained allowed to conclude that: i) cultivars Catuaí Amarelo IAC 62, Catuaí Vermelho IAC 99 and Mundo Novo IAC 379-1 were higher than the others, with yield above the national average in 2020 and percentage of flat beans below 10%; ii) all cultivars evaluated showed a similar level of increment of variables that indicate plant growth and reproductive development; iii) the cultivation environment is favorable to infestation by the leaf miner and unfavorable to the incidence of rust; iv) The prevailing climatic conditions in the Vale do Ribeira Paulista is suitable for the production of Arabica coffee.

RESUMEN En los últimos años el cultivo de café guatemalteco ha sufrido declinación en su rendimiento como resultado de la roya del café. El uso de cultivares resistentes a esta enfermedad y con potencial para producir cafés con buena calidad de bebida es fundamental para la sustentabilidad del cultivo en el país. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar el potencial de calidad del grano y el perfil sensorial de genotipos de café Arábica resistentes a la roya, en función de diferentes tiempos de fermentación biológica. El experimento se implementó en julio de 2014, en la finca El Panorama, ubicada en el municipio de San Rafael Pie de La Cuesta, Departamento de San Marcos, Guatemala. Se probaron ocho progenies F5 resistentes a la roya y se utilizaron como controles los cultivares Marsellesa y Bourbon Amarelo. Cada genotipo fue sometido a dos tiempos de fermentación biológica en agua, después del pelado (24 y 72 h). El diseño experimental fue bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones en un esquema factorial 10 (genotipos) × 2 (tiempos), totalizando 60 unidades experimentales. Se evaluó la calidad, perfil sensorial y granulometría de los tratamientos. Todos los genotipos estudiados resistentes a la roya mostraron potencial para la producción de cafés especiales en Guatemala y una granulometría superior en relación al Bourbon Amarelo. Marsellesa y Bourbon Amarelo obtuvieron puntajes finales más altos y los atributos de sabor, regusto, acidez, cuerpo, equilibrio y en general, fueron más acentuados. El tiempo de fermentación biológica no influyó en la puntuación final del café (pontuación total en el protocolo SCA); sin embargo, hubo un cambio en el perfil sensorial, con énfasis en el cultivar Marsellesa, que aumentó la frecuencia de notas frutales y redujo las notas de caramelo con mayor tiempo de fermentación.

SUMMARY In recent years, the Guatemalan coffee plantations have suffered a decline in its yield as a result of coffee rust. The use of cultivars resistant to this disease and with the potential to produce coffee with good drinking quality is essential for the sustainability of coffee cultivation in the country. The aim of this study was to analyze bean quality potential and the sensory profile of rust-resistant Arabica coffee genotypes as a function of different times of biological fermentation. The experiment was carried out in July 2014, at El Panorama farm, located in the municipality of San Rafael Pie de La Cuesta, Department of San Marcos, Guatemala. Eight rust resistant F5 progenies were tested and cultivars Marsellesa and Bourbon Amarelo were used as controls. Each genotype was subjected to two times of biological fermentation in water, after peeling (24 and 72 h). The experimental design was randomized complete blocks with three replications, in a 10 (genotypes) × 2 (times) factorial scheme, totaling 60 experimental units. The quality, sensory profile and granulometry of the treatments were evaluated. All the rust-resistant genotypes studied showed potential to produce specialty coffees in Guatemala and a superior granulometry in relation to Bourbon Amarelo. Marsellesa and Bourbon Amarelo obtained higher final scores and the attributes flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, balance and overall were more accentuated. The time of biological fermentation did not influence the final score of the coffee (total score in the SCA protocol); however, there was a change in the sensory profile, with emphasis on cultivar Marsellesa, which increased the frequency of fruity notes and reduced caramel notes with longer fermentation time.

RESUMO As mudanças climáticas ameaçam a sobrevivência das culturas comercias com sua base genética estreita. Uma das alternativas é a identificação de plantas com potencial para a tolerância a estresses abióticos. Objetivou-se verificar as adaptações fisiológicas e anatômicas ao período seco e os impactos sobre a produtividade de acessos de cafeeiro Híbrido de Timor. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 7 x 2, sendo sete genótipos (UFV 377-21, UFV 377-21, UFV 442-42, BE 5 Wush-Wush x UFV 366-08, UFV 428-02, UFV 376-31 e UFV 427-55) e dois períodos sazonais (seco e chuvoso), com duas repetições. Foram avaliados a condutância estomática; potencial hídrico na antemanhã; níveis de peróxido de hidrogênio e malondialdeído; atividade das enzimas catalase, superóxido dismutase e ascorbato peroxidase; conteúdo de ascorbato; espessura da cutícula da face adaxial e limbo foliar; densidade estomática; relação entre diâmetro polar e equatorial; área do floema; área, diâmetro e frequência de vasos do xilema; condutividade hidráulica relativa; índice de vulnerabilidade; e produtividade. Observaram-se aclimatações dos acessos ao período seco, sendo que alguns mantiveram maiores valores de potencial hídrico na antemanhã; indução do sistema antioxidante com o aumento da atividade da enzima superóxido dismutase e de níveis de ascorbato; aumento da espessura da cutícula e do limbo foliar; e maior relação entre diâmetro polar e equatorial. A maioria dos acessos avaliados apresentou bom desempenho produtivo, com destaque para UFV 377-21, UFV 442-42 e UFV 376-31, com adaptações ao período seco e potencial produtivo.

ABSTRACT Climate change threatens the survival of commercial crops due to their narrow genetic base. One of the alternatives is the identification of plants with potential for abiotic stress tolerance. This study aimed to verify the physiological and anatomical adaptations to the drought period and the impacts on the yield of ‘Híbrido de Timor’ coffee tree accessions. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 7 x 2 factorial arrangement, being seven genotypes (UFV 377-21, UFV 377-21, UFV 442-42, BE 5 Wush-Wush x UFV 366-08, UFV 428-02, UFV 376-31 and UFV 427-55) and two seasonal periods (dry and rainy), with two replications. The stomatal conductance; predawn water potential; levels of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde; activity of the enzymes catalase, superoxide dismutase and ascorbate oxidase; ascorbate content; cuticle thickness of the adaxial surface and leaf lamina; stomatal density; ratio between polar and equatorial diameter; phloem area; area, diameter and frequency of xylem vessels; relative hydraulic conductivity; vulnerability index; and yield were evaluated. The results showed acclimatization of the accessions to the dry period, with some of them maintaining higher water potential values in the predawn; induction of the antioxidant system with the increase in the activity of the superoxide dismutase enzyme and ascorbate levels; increase in the cuticle and leaf lamina thickness; and a higher ratio between polar and equatorial diameters. Most of the evaluated accessions showed a good productive performance, especially the ‘UFV 377-21’, ‘UFV 442-42’ and ‘UFV 376-31’, with adaptations to the dry period and yield potential.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar genótipos de Coffea arabica com boa produtividade e potencial de tolerância ao deficit hídrico, além de tentar compreender os mecanismos fisiológicos e anatômicos envolvidos na adaptabilidade desses genótipos ao estresse hídrico. Avaliaramse características fisiológicas, anatômicas e agronômicas de 19 genótipos de C. arabica sob as duas seguintes condições hídricas: irrigação regular e sem irrigação (deficit hídrico no solo). Os genótipos 'IPR 100', 2, 5 e 7 apresentaram características agronômicas, fisiológicas e anatômicas que contribuíram para melhor manutenção do estado hídrico no desenvolvimento inicial do cafeeiro. Com base nesses resultados, esses genótipos são potencialmente tolerantes ao deficit hídrico. Os genótipos 4, 10, 11, 14, 15 e 'Bourbon Amarelo IAC J10' apresentam menor adaptabilidade das estruturas anatômicas em condições de deficit hídrico no solo. Os genótipos de cafeeiro apresentam plasticidade foliar, como a espessura do parênquima paliçádico e esponjoso, e o número, posição, dimensões e mobilidade dos estômatos em condições de deficiência hídrica.

Abstract The objective of this work was to select genotypes of Coffea arabica with good yield and potential tolerance to water deficit, as well as to try to understand the physiological and anatomical mechanisms involved in the adaptability of these genotypes to water stress. The physiological, anatomical, and agronomic traits of 19 genotypes of C. arabica were evaluated under the two following water conditions: regular irrigation and no irrigation (soil water deficit). The 'IPR 100', 2, 5, and 7 genotypes showed agronomic, physiological, and anatomical traits that contributed to a better water status maintenance in the initial development of coffee plants. Based on these results, these genotypes are potentially tolerant to water deficit. The 4, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 'Bourbon Amarelo IAC J10' genotypes show a lower adaptability of the anatomical structures under soil-water deficit conditions. The coffee tree genotypes display leaf plasticity, such as the thickness of palisade and spongy parenchyma, and the number, position, dimensions, and mobility of stomata under water deficit conditions.

Abstract MGS Guaiçara e MGS Vereda are resistant to Meloidogyne paranaensis, one of the most aggressive nematode parasites of coffee. MGS Vereda is an early maturation cultivar, whereas MGS Guaiçara has a medium maturation cycle. Both cultivars produce red fruit, have high size, and high yield potential in infested areas.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produtividade e a qualidade sensorial da bebida do café arábica sob a influência de espécies arbóreas cultivadas em diferentes espaçamentos. O ensaio foi instalado em 2012, no município do Santo Antônio do Amparo, no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Um delineamento de blocos ao acaso foi realizado, com quatro repetições e sete tratamentos, conforme a seguir: Coffea arabica Catuaí Vermelho IAC 99 em monocultivo (3,40x0,65 m); e essa cultivar consorciada em dois espaçamentos (9,0x13,6 e 18,0x13,6 m), na linha dos cafeeiros, com mogno-africano (Khaya ivorensis), teca (Tectona grandis), ou cedro-rosa (Acrocarpus fraxinifolius). Nas entrelinhas, foram fixadas três linhas de café, tendo totalizado 13,6 m entre as fileiras arborizadas. A produtividade, a análise sensorial (prova de xícara) e a análise de conteúdo dos atributos sensoriais foram avaliadas nas safras de 2017 e 2018. Os tratamentos e os anos de colheita influenciaram na produtividade. A análise sensorial foi positiva para o consórcio com o mogno-africano e a teca, em 2018. Os atributos sensoriais e as nuances são modificados pelos anos de colheita. Os cafeeiros arábica consorciados com mogno-africano apresentam produtividade superior, independentemente do espaçamento entre as espécies, bem como qualidade sensorial superior na colheita de 2018.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the productivity and beverage sensory quality of arabica coffee under the influence of tree species cultivated at different spacings. The experiment was set in 2012, in the municipality of Santo Antônio do Amparo, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A randomized complete block design was carried out with four replicates and seven treatments, as follows: Catuaí Vermelho IAC 99 Coffea arabica in monoculture (3.40x0.65 m); and this cultivar intercropped at two spacings (9.0x13.6 and 18.0x13.6 m) in the coffee row ‒ either with African mahogany (Khaya ivorensis), teak (Tectona grandis), or pink cedar (Acrocarpus fraxinifolius). Three coffee rows were fixed between rows, totaling 13.6 m between the wooded rows. Productivity, sensory analysis (cup test), and content analysis of sensory attributes were evaluated in the 2017 and 2018 crop years. The treatments and years of harvest influenced productivity. The sensory analysis was positive for coffee intercropped with African mahogany and teak, in 2018. Sensory attributes and nuances are modified by the years of harvest. Arabica coffee plants intercropped with African mahogany show a superior productivity, regardless of the spacing between species, as well as a higher sensory quality in the 2018 harvest.

RESUMO A produção de mudas de clone de Coffea arabica L. é uma das alternativas de maior demanda para cafeicultores, existindo programas de melhoramento através da técnica de embriogênese somática, no entanto, os clones apresentam dificuldades de pegamento na fase de aclimatação em casa de vegetação elevando custo de produção. Uma alternativa testada com resultados promissores é a inoculação com fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) durante o processo de aclimatação das mudas. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi promover a melhoria do processo de produção de mudas através de embriogênese somática associada a inoculação com fungos micorrízicos arbusculares. Para a produção dos clones, plântulas foram utilizadas quando apresentaram quatro pares de folhas (clone 1 “Frutificação vermelha Catucaí” e clone 2 “Acauã”) produzidos e desenvolvidos em biorreatores “embriogênese somática” e quando levadas para o viveiro inoculadas com Rhizophagus clarus, Gigaspora margarita e Acaulospora mellea, a mistura de R. clarus e G. margarita e a mistura de R. clarus, G. margarita e A. mellea. Após seis meses foram avaliados os parâmetros agronômicos, teores de nutrientes foliar e a colonização micorrizica nas raízes. Os clones se comportaram diferentemente quando inoculados com o FMAs, sendo que o clone 1, o que apresentou melhor desenvolvimento no viveiro determinadas pelos parâmetros agronômicos, sendo indicada na produção de mudas clonais vigorosas qu, ando associado a inoculação com fungos micorrízicos arbusculares.

ABSTRACT The production of Coffea arabica L. clone seedlings through the somatic embryogenesis technique is one of the alternatives of greatest demand for coffee producers. However, clones can face difficulties related to acclimatization carried out under greenhouse conditions, which can increase the production costs. A tested alternative with promising results is inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) during the seedling acclimatization process. Thus, this study aimed to promote the improvement of the seedling production process through somatic embryogenesis associated with inoculation with AMF. For the production of the clones, seedlings were used in the phase when they presented four pairs of leaves (Clone 1 “Fruiting red Catucaí” and Clone 2 “Acauã”), using “somatic embryogenesis” bioreactors, followed by inoculation with Rhizophagus clarus, Gigaspora margarita and Acaulospora mellea, a mixture of R. clarus and G. margarita and a mixture of R. clarus, G. margarita and A. mellea. After six months, agronomic parameters, leaf nutrient contents and root mycorrhizal colonization were evaluated. The studied clones behaved differently when inoculated with AMFs. Clone 1 showed the best development in the greenhouse, which was determined by the agronomic parameters. Thus, Clone 1 is indicated for the production of vigorous seedlings when associated with inoculation with AMFs.

Abstract Brazilian coffee cultivation was boosted over the last few decades by the mechanization of various field operations. Considering the influence of genetic factors on coffee harvesting efficiency, we aimed to evaluate the use of mechanized harvesting characteristics as a criterion to select progenies derived from ‘Icatu’ germplasm, previously evaluated for agronomic characteristics, resistance to rust and cercosporiosis. We also investigated genotypic and phenotypic correlations between semi-mechanized harvesting characteristics. Ten progenies of Coffea arabica L. were analyzed in two experimental farms during two consecutive harvests. Genetic parameters were evaluated to trace selection strategies. Four progenies that were suitable for mechanization were selected, supporting our hypothesis of the use of harvest characteristics as selection criteria.

Abstract In the northern Minas region, the dry-warm climate predisposes coffee plants to the occurrence of leaf miners, mites, cercosporiosis, and leaf scald. Aiming for the development of a cultivar adapted to these conditions, Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner clones were selected through genetic parameters under an irrigated system, without agrochemicals. Eighteen agronomic traits were evaluated. The survival rate, number of nodes per plagiotropic branch, leaf miner infestation and cercosporiosis incidence were chosen as characteristics for selection of ‘Vitória Incaper 8142’, once they have shown superiority of the genetic parameters. The survival rate variable was used to rank the EMCAPA 8141 Robustão Capixaba clones. Clones V2, V4, V6, V13, RC7, and RC9 were selected as more tolerant to pests and diseases and can provide genetic improvements in conilon breeding program for region. The genetic dissimilarity identified between clones allowed suitable clone combinations to be proposed for use in future crosses.

RESUMO Os benefícios da micorrização ocorrem com o crescimento das hifas nas raízes colonizadas, promovendo uma ampliação da superfície de contato, aumento a absorção de água e nutrientes das raízes, facilitando crescimento inicial.Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da inoculação fungo micorrizico arbuscular Rhizophagus clarus sobre o desenvolvimento inicial e a resposta nutricional de seis genótipos de Coffea arabica L. Foram utilizados seis genótipos de Coffea arabica L. (MGS Aranãs, H 29-1-8-5, Catuai vermelho IAC 144, Catiguá MG2, Paraíso H 419-1) com fungo micorrizico arbuscularFMA: Rhizophagus clarus e sem aplicação do fungo com cinco repetições. Para produção das mudas de café, sementes foram colocadas para germinar em bandeijas plásticas com areia estéril. Após a germinação 10 mudas de cada genótipo foram transferidas para tubos de polietileno de 0,120 dm3com substrato. Nesse momento procedeu-se a inoculação de cinco mudas de cada genótipo com o FMA R. clarus. Quando as mudas de cafeeiro com e sem inoculação com o FMA apresentaram seis pares de folhas foram transplantadas para vasos de 13 litros, contendo solo (Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo Distrófico) esterilizado. A inoculação favoreceu o crescimento inicial das plantas de café e sua intensidade variou de acordo com os genótipos. Dos seis genótipos utilizados H 29-1-8-5, Catuai Vermelho IAC 144 e Catiguá MG 2 foram os que apresentaram maiores massa seca da parte aérea, massa seca das raízes, massa seca total e acúmulo do nutriente P, em relação ao MGS Aranãs, Paraiso H 419-1 e o IPR 100, sendo os mais promissores para serem inoculadas com fungo micorrízico arbuscular.

ABSTRACT The benefits of mycorrhization occur with the growth of hyphae in colonized roots by promoting an increase of the contact surface which improves the initial growth due to a better absorption of water and nutrients. The objective was to evaluate the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Rhizophagus clarus inoculation over the initial development and nutritional response of six genotypes of Coffea arabica L. Six genotypes of Coffea arabica L. were used (MGS Aranas, H29-1-8-5, Red Catuai IAC 144, IPR 100, Catigua MG2, Paraíso H 419-1) and with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus - AMF: Rhizophagus clarus and without the application of the fungus. For the production of coffee seedlings, seeds were placed to germinate in plastic trays with sterile sand. After germination, 10 seedlings of each genotype were transferred to 0.120 dm3 polyethylene tubes with substrate. Then the inoculation of five seedlings of each genotype with the AMF R. Clarus was performed. When the seedlings with and without inoculation with the AMF presented six pairs of leaves they were transplanted to 13-liter pots containing soil (Dystrophic red-yellow latosol). The inoculation favored the initial growth of the coffee plants and its intensity varied according to the genotypes. The genotypes H 29-1-8-5, Red Catuai IAC 144 and Catigua MG 2 were the ones that presented higher shoot dry mass, root dry mass, total dry mass and accumulation of P, in relation to MGS aranãs, Paraiso H 419-1 and IPR 100, so they are the most promising to be inoculated with the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus.

Abstract This paper presents the results of progeny 1190-1170-2, which was recorded as ‘MGS Travessia’ and selected based on its performance in the state of Minas Gerais. The cultivar has short size, cylindrical canopy, high yield capacity, high vegetative vigor, very satisfactory husk/bean ratio, grain quality compatible to traditional cultivars, and is very responsive to skeleton pruning.

Abstract The objective of this study was to describe the genetic parameters, adaptability, and stability of clones from the Coffea canephora variety ‘Vitória Incaper 8142’, and the genetic divergence between them. Following 12 and 24 months of plant growth, several traits were evaluated, including stem diameter, plant height, canopy diameter, number of plagiotropic branches, and number of nodes per plagiotropic branch. The agronomic performance of four crops was determined using measurements of productivity, yield, percentage of floating grains, and grade of the beans. Variability was observed between the clones for the majority of the traits measured. The clones V7, V10, V12, and V13 were the most stable and displayed the highest degree of adaptation for the studied traits, and thus these clones will be used to establish a base population suited to the growing conditions in Alto Suaçuí, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Additionally, the genetic dissimilarity identified between clones allowed suitable clone combinations to be proposed for use in future crosses.

Os programas de melhoramento devem ser dinâmicos e contínuos, de modo a disponibilizarem sempre novos cultivares de cafeeiros, com fatores de resistência complexos, que se constituam em eficientes barreiras para as novas raças fisiológicas do fungo H. vastatrix. Por essa razão, objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o comportamento agronômico, a resistência à ferrugem e a ocorrência de cercosporiose em progênies, provenientes do cruzamento dos grupos de cultivares Catuaí e Icatu, em dois ambientes de Minas Gerais. Os experimentos foram implantados nas Fazendas Experimentais da EPAMIG, em São Sebastião do Paraíso e Três Pontas - MG. O delineamento experimental adotado foi o látice quadrado 6 x 6, com 3 repetições. Nos dois ambientes, foram realizadas avaliações de produtividade, vigor vegetativo, percentagem de grãos com peneira 17 acima e reação à ferrugem e à cercosporiose, nos anos agrícolas 2009/2010 e 2010/2011. O desempenho das progênies avaliadas, para produtividade, em Três Pontas, foi superior quando comparado ao de São Sebastião do Paraíso. A progênie H 6-47-10 Cova 3 destacou-se entre as mais promissoras, sugerindo boas possibilidades de progresso genético na seleção.

Breeding programs should be dynamic and continuous in order to provide new coffee cultivars with complex resistance factors to be efficient barriers to new physiological races of the fungus H. vastatrix. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance, the resistance to rust and the occurrence of brown eyespot in progenies derived from crosses between Catuaí and Icatu groups in two sites in the State of Minas Gerais. The experiments were carried out on EPAMIG Experimental Farms situated in São Sebastião do Paraíso and Três Pontas, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The experimental design was a 6 x 6 lattice square with three replications. The following characteristics were evaluated in the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011crop years in both sites: yield, vegetative vigor, percentage of grain size and response to rust and brown eyespot. Performance of the evaluated progenies for productivity in Três Pontas was higher than in São Sebastião do Paraíso. The progeny 6-47-10 H Hole 3 stood out among the most promising, suggesting good potential for genetic progress in selection. Progenies with resistance to rust were classified.

O objetivo do trabalho foi caracterizar 21 acessos de formas botânicas diversas de cafeeiro existentes no Banco Ativo de Germoplasma do Estado de Minas Gerais, com o intuito de identificar genótipos com potencial de uso em programas de melhoramento genético. No ensaio de campo, cada acesso é representado por 20 plantas, distribuídas em delineamento em blocos ao acaso com duas repetições. Os cafeeiros foram avaliados aos 30 meses após o plantio, de acordo com a produtividade, o vigor vegetativo e com os principais descritores mínimos para a proteção de cultivares de café no Brasil. Os resultados obtidos revelam importante variabilidade genética entre os acessos, evidenciando a possibilidade de seu uso em programas de melhoramento. O acesso Pacamara apresentou produtividade superior no primeiro ano, enquanto que, no segundo ano, destacaram-se os acessos Catuaí Erecta e Semperflorens. Os descritores mínimos utilizados para a proteção de cultivares de café revelaram-se uma ferramenta eficiente para a caracterização e diferenciação do germoplasma estudado.

The objective of this study was to characterize 21 accessions of various botanical forms of existing coffee in the Active Germplasm Bank of the State of Minas Gerais, in order to identify genotypes with potential for use in breeding programs. In the field trial, each access is represented by 20 plants, in randomized complete block design with two replications. Coffee plants were evaluated at 30 months after planting, according to productivity, vegetative vigor and the main standard descriptors for the protection of plant varieties of coffee in Brazil. The results show an important genetic variability among accessions showing the possibility of their use in breeding programs. The Pacamara access had higher productivity in the first year, while in the second year, stood accesses Catuaí Erecta and Semperflorens. The standard descriptors used for the protection of plant varieties of coffee proved to be an efficient tool for the characterization and differentiation of germplasm studied.
