Poucas pesquisas têm sido realizadas sobre interferência de plantas daninhas na cultura do quiabo. Objetivou-se com este trabalho estimar os períodos de interferência da comunidade infestante no quiabeiro. Um experimento de campo foi conduzido sob dois grupos de tratamentos, mantendo períodos crescentes de 0 (testemunha), 7, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 63, 77, 91 e 105 dias após a emergência da cultura (DAE), com e sem controle das plantas daninhas. As plantas daninhas com maior importância relativa foram Portulaca oleracea, Nicandra physaloides e Eleusine indica. A convivência do quiabeiro com as plantas daninhas por todo o ciclo de cultivo reduziu a produtividade da cultura em 95%. O período anterior à interferência foi de 57 DAE, enquanto o período total de prevenção à interferência foi de 14 DAE. Não houve período crítico de prevenção à interferência, sendo um único controle das plantas daninhas entre 14 e 57 DAE suficiente para prevenir a interferência na cultura do quiabo.

Few research works have been carried out on weed interference in okra crop. The aim of this study was to estimate the periods of weed interference in okra crop. Thus, a field trial was carried out under two groups of treatments, using increased periods of 0 (check), 7, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 63, 77, 91, and 105 days after crop emergence (DAE) with weed control and without weed control. Weeds with highest relative importance were Portulaca oleracea, Nicandra physaloides, and Eleusine indica. Coexistence of okra crop and weeds throughout the season reduced crop yield by 95%. The period before interference was 57 DAE, while total period of interference prevention was 14 DAE. There was no critical period of interference prevention, with a single weed control between 14 and 57 DAE being sufficient for interference prevention in okra crop.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da convivência do cafeeiro (Coffea arabica) com densidades de capim-amargoso (Digitaria insularis) sobre o teor de macronutrientes e o crescimento das plantas da cultura. O experimento foi conduzido em caixas enterradas no solo, onde uma planta de café foi mantida em convivência com 0 (testemunha livre de plantas daninhas), 1, 2, 4, 8 e 16 plantas de capim-amargoso, usando o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com três repetições. A redução no crescimento e no teor de macronutrientes do cafeeiro - exceto P, que aumentou - iniciou-se quando a convivência ocorreu com plantas de capim-amargoso na densidade de uma planta por caixa. Em geral, o teor de macronutrientes foi reduzido em 10-50%, enquanto as características de crescimento foram reduzidas em 9-41%, quando o cafeeiro conviveu com 16 plantas de capim-amargoso. Assim, a competição de capim-amargoso por nutrientes foi um forte fator limitante para o crescimento das plantas de café.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the coexistence effects of coffee (Coffea arabica) with densities of sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) on crop macronutrient content and plant growth. The experiment was conducted in plots where one coffee plant was maintained in coexistence with 0 (weed-free check), 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 sourgrass plants, using a completely randomized design with three replicates. Reduction of coffee growth and macronutrient content, except P that increased, started when the coexistence occurred with sourgrass plants in a density of 1 plant per plot. In general, macronutrient content was reduced by 18-50%, while growth characteristics were reduced by 9-41%, when coffee plants coexisted with 16 plants of sourgrass. Thus, sourgrass competition for nutrients was a strong factor limiting coffee plant growth.

A área foliar é uma das principais características usadas para avaliar o crescimento vegetal. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar uma equação matemática para estimar a área foliar de Synedrellopsis grisebachii - uma importante planta daninha no Brasil - a partir de dimensões lineares dos limbos foliares. Duzentas folhas foram medidas em comprimento (C), largura máxima (L) e área foliar real (AF). Os dados de AF e CxL foram submetidos à análise de regressão linear, determinando-se uma equação matemática para estimar a área foliar da espécie. A correlação entre os valores de área foliar real e estimada foi significativa. Portanto, a área foliar de S. grisebachii pode ser estimada satisfatoriamente pela equação: AF = 0,730829(C×L).

Leaf area is one of the main characteristics used to evaluate plant growth. This work aimed to determine a mathematical equation to estimate the leaf area of Synedrellopsis grisebachii, an important weed in Brazil, using the linear measures of the leaf blade. Length (L), width (W) and real leaf area (LA)of two hundred leaves were measured. LA and L×W data were submitted to linear regression analysis, adjusting a mathematical equation to estimate the leaf area of the species. The correlation between the real and estimated leaf area values was significant. Thus, the leaf area of S. grisebachii may be estimated through the equation LA = 0.730829(L×W).

O efeito de dessecantes sobre o período anterior à interferência (PAI) pode auxiliar na tomada de decisão para o manejo das plantas daninhas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi verificar se a adição de chlorimuron-ethyl ao glyphosate, para dessecação em pré-semeadura, altera a extensão do PAI na soja. O experimento foi realizado em Jaboticabal-SP, Brasil, submetendo-se o cultivar Monsoy 7908RR a oito períodos de convivência com plantas daninhas, além de testemunhas no mato e no limpo, nos quais foram aplicados dois grupos de tratamentos: glyphosate e glyphosate + chlorimuron-ethyl. Em cada período, foram calculados o índice de importância relativa e os índices de diversidade e equitabilidade; por meio da análise de regressão dos dados de produtividade de grãos, determinou-se o PAI. Digitaria insularis, Acanthospermum hispidum, Raphanus raphanistrum e Commelina benghalensis apresentaram maior importância relativa. Os índices de diversidade e equitabilidade oscilaram durante os períodos, e a diferença entre as plantas daninhas fundamentou-se no acúmulo de massa seca. O PAI na soja no tratamento com glyphosate foi de 37 dias após a semeadura (DAS) e de 51 DAS naquele com glyphosate + chlorimuron-ethyl. A adição de chlorimuron-ethyl ao glyphosate permite que a cultura conviva mais tempo com as plantas daninhas sem que ocorra redução significativa na produtividade.

The effects of burndown herbicides on the period before weed interference (PBI) may provide support to weed management decision-making. The objective of this research was to verify whether the PBI is affected by the application of glyphosate plus chlorimuron-ethyl to pre-sowing burndown in soybean. The experiment was carried out in Jaboticabal-SP, Brazil, submitting the cultivar Monsoy 7908RR to eight coexistence periods with weeds, maintaining weedy and-weed-free checks, which were applied to two groups of treatments: glyphosate and glyphosate + chlorimuron-ethyl. At each period, relative importance, diversity and equitability indexes were calculated. The PBI was determined based on regression analysis of grain yield. Digitaria insularis, Acanthospermum hispidum, Raphanus raphanistrum and Commelina benghalensis showed the highest values of relative importance. The diversity and equitability indexes oscillated during the periods, and dry mass accumulation was the basis of the difference among the weeds. The PBI in soybean was 37 days after sowing (DAS) in the treatment with glyphosate and 51 DAS in the glyphosate + chlorimuron-ethyl treatment. The addition of chlorimuron-ethyl to glyphosate allows the crop to coexist with weeds for a longer time without any significant yield reduction.

O conhecimento da área foliar de plantas daninhas pode auxiliar o estudo das relações de interferência entre elas e as culturas agrícolas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar uma equação matemática que estime a área foliar de Merremia aegyptia, a partir da relação entre as dimensões lineares dos limbos foliares. Folhas da espécie foram coletadas de diferentes locais na Universidade Estadual Paulista, Jaboticabal, Brasil, medindo-se o comprimento (C), a largura máxima (L) e a área foliar de três tipos de folíolos. Foram estimadas equações lineares (Y = a*X) para cada tipo de folíolo. A área foliar da espécie pode ser estimada pelo somatório das áreas dos limbos foliares de cada tipo de folíolo, por meio da equação AFest = 0,547470(X) + 1,145298(Y) + 1,244146(Z), em que X indica C*L do folíolo principal e Y e Z indicam C*L médios dos folíolos primário e secundário, respectivamente.

Weed leaf area knowledge can provide a support to study the relationships of interference between weeds and crops. The objective of this research was to determine a mathematical equation to estimate the leaf area of Merremia aegyptia based on the relation among the linear measures of the leaf blades. Leaves of this species were gathered from different places at Sao Paulo State University, Jaboticabal, Brazil, by measuring length (L), maximum width (W,) and leaf area of three types of leaflets. Linear equations (Y = a*X) were estimated for each type of leaflet. The leaf area of the species can be estimated by the sum of the leaf areas of each leaflet type according to the equation LAest = 0.547470(X) + 1.145298(Y) + 1.244146(Z), where X indicates L*W of the main leaflet, and Y and Z indicate the medium L*W of the primary and secondary leaflets, respectively.

A cenoura é uma importante hortaliça no Brasil, cuja produtividade pode ser muito reduzida devido à interferência de plantas daninhas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar efeitos de períodos de convivência das plantas daninhas na produtividade da cenoura cultivar "Brasília" e na comunidade de plantas daninhas. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de períodos crescentes de convivência ou controle das plantas daninhas. A comunidade de plantas daninhas foi avaliada quanto a número de indivíduos, matéria seca acumulada e frequência de ocorrência das espécies, e a cultura, quanto à produtividade comercial. As principais plantas daninhas foram Ageratum conyzoides, Digitaria nuda, Eleusine indica e Lepidium virginicum. A presença da comunidade de plantas daninhas durante todo o ciclo da cultura pode acarretar perdas de 94% na produtividade, evidenciando alta suscetibilidade da cenoura à interferência das plantas daninhas. Contudo, não houve período crítico de prevenção à interferência, e um único controle das plantas daninhas, entre 22 e 31 dias após a semeadura, foi suficiente para garantir a produção da cultura.

Carrot is an important horticultural crop in Brazil, and its productivity may be highly reduced due to weed interference. This study evaluated the effects of weed coexistence periods on carrot cultivar 'Brasilia' yield and on the weed community. The treatments were constituted of increasing weed coexistence periods or weed-free periods. The weed community was evaluated based on number of individuals, dry matter accumulation, and frequency of occurrence; while the crop was evaluated based on marketable productivity. The main weeds were Ageratum conyzoides, Digitaria nuda, Eleusine indica, and Lepidium virginicum. The presence of the weed community throughout the crop season can cause yield losses of 94%, showing high susceptibility of the carrot crop to weed interference. However, there was no critical period for weed removal, and a single weed control between 22 and 31 days after sowing should be sufficient to guarantee crop production.
