RESUMO: A produção de alimentos bioativos é um dos objetivos da agricultura. O uso de brotos para consumo humano é uma forma eficiente de aumentar a ingestão de nutrientes essenciais, como minerais, vitaminas e outros compostos bioativos. O uso de elicitores pode aumentar o valor nutricional desses produtos. A produção de biomassa, o conteúdo de compostos fenólicos e a atividade antioxidante de brotos de feijão (Vigna radiata L.) após a elicitação foram examinados neste estudo. Brotos de feijão foram tratados com ácido salicílico (SA), ácido ascórbico (AA) e tocoferol (TOC) em diferentes concentrações e número de aplicações. O comprimento da parte aérea e da raiz e a massa seca foram medidos em brotos com cinco dias de idade. O teor de fenol total e a atividade antioxidante foram determinados usando o ensaio DPPH em extratos etanólicos secos. O conteúdo total de proteína solúvel e atividade da superóxido dismutase foram medidos em hipocótilos congelados. Todos os elicitores estimularam as funções antioxidantes dos brotos e, nas maiores concentrações, reduziram os parâmetros biométricos; assim, concentrações mais baixas foram mais eficientes. Pela primeira vez, foi alcançado um equilíbrio entre a concentração do elicitor e a aplicação em parcelas para incrementar a produção de brotos e aprimorar características nutricionais aprimoradas.

ABSTRACT: The production of bioactive food is one of the goals of agriculture. Sprouts used for human consumption are an efficient way to increase the intake of essential nutrients, such as minerals, vitamins, and other bioactive compounds. The use of elicitors can increase the nutritional value of these products. Biomass production, phenolic compound content, and antioxidant activity of mung bean sprouts (Vigna radiata L.) after elicitation were examined in this study. Mung bean sprouts were treated with salicylic acid (SA), ascorbic acid (AA), and tocopherol (TOC) at different concentrations and numbers of applications. Shoot and root lengths and dry mass were measured on five-day-old sprouts. Total phenol content and antioxidant activity were determined using the DPPH assay on dried ethanolic extracts. Total soluble protein content and superoxide dismutase activity were measured in frozen hypocotyls. All elicitors stimulated the antioxidant functions of sprouts and, at the highest concentrations, reduced the biometric parameters; therefore, lower concentrations were better. For the first time, a balance between elicitor concentration and application in instalments was achieved to maintain the production of sprouts with enhanced nutritional characteristics.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the energy values and metabolizability of different lipid sources in the diet of Japanese quail at the laying phase. The quail were distributed in a completely randomized design with ten replications of seven poultry per treatment, totaling six treatments: basal feed (control) and basal feed containing 10% soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, and poultry fat. The values of nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) and the metabolizability coefficient (MC%) were evaluated. No significant difference was found between the different lipid sources for AMEn (kcal/kg) and MC (%). The value of metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen for soybean oil was 8,790 kcal/kg; 8,773 kcal/kg for corn oil; 8,784 kcal/kg for canola oil; 8,788 kcal/kg for sunflower oil; and 8,681 kcal/kg for poultry fat in laying Japanese quail. The digestibility coefficients were 93.88% for soybean oil, 93.53% for corn oil, 93.32% for canola oil, 93.74% for sunflower oil, and 93.06% for poultry fat.

Abstract Long-term-ecological-research (LTER) faces many challenges, including the difficulty of obtaining long-term funding, changes in research questions and sampling designs, keeping researchers collecting standardized data for many years, impediments to interactions with local people, and the difficulty of integrating the needs of local decision makers with “big science”. These issues result in a lack of universally accepted guidelines as to how research should be done and integrated among LTER sites. Here we discuss how the RAPELD (standardized field infrastructure system), can help deal with these issues as a complementary technique in LTER studies, allowing comparisons across landscapes and ecosystems and reducing sampling costs. RAPELD uses local surveys to understand broad spatial and temporal patterns while enhancing decision-making and training of researchers, local indigenous groups and traditional communities. Sampling of ecological data can be carried out by different researchers through standardized protocols, resulting in spatial data that can be used to answer temporal questions, and allow new questions to be investigated. Results can also be integrated into existing biodiversity networks. Integrated systems are the most efficient way to save resources, maximize results, and accumulate information that can be used in the face of the unknown unknowns upon which our future depends.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência da inclusão de níveis de farinha de alga calcária em substituição ao calcário calcítico na dieta sob a conservação de ovos em diferentes períodos de armazenamento. Foram utilizadas 140 codornas japonesas em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado composto por um fatorial 4x4. Sendo 4 inclusões de alga calcária (0%, 10%, 20% e 30%) e 4 períodos de armazenamento (0, 7, 14 e 21dias) com dez repetições de três ovos em cada. Foram avaliadas as variáveis de qualidade de ovos das aves. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância utilizando o teste de Tukey e regressão polinomial ao nível de 5% de significância. Não houve efeito da interação entre os fatores tempo de armazenamento e inclusão de alga calcárea (p>0,05). Houve efeito linear crescente no peso e espessura da casca em relação aos níveis de inclusão de alga calcárea. Houve efeito individual do tempo de armazenamento dos ovos (p>0,05) sobre parâmetros peso de ovo, coloração da gema, altura de albúmen e gema, peso e porcentagem da gema, albúmen, índice de gema, diâmetro de gema, gravidade especifica e unidade Haugh. A inclusão de até 30 % de alga calcária em substituição ao calcário calcítico na dieta codornas japonesas aprimora o peso e a espessura da casca do ovo, mas não influencia na conservação dos ovos até 21 dias de armazenamento.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of including levels of calcareous seaweed flour in replacement for calcite limestone on the diet under egg conservation at different storage periods. 140 Japanese quails were used in a completely randomized experiment consisting of a 4x4 factorial design. The factorial design was four inclusions of calcareous seaweed (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%) and four storage periods (zero, seven, 14, and 21 days) with ten replications of three eggs each. The egg quality variables were evaluated. Data were subjected to analysis of variance using Tukey test and polynomial regression at a 5% significance level. There was no interaction effect between the factor's storage time and inclusion of calcareous seaweed (p>0.05). There was an increasing linear effect on shell weight and thickness in relation to inclusion levels of calcareous seaweed. There was an individual effect of egg storage time (p>0.05) on egg weight, yolk color, albumen and yolk height, yolk weight and percentage, albumen, yolk index, yolk diameter, specific gravity, and Haugh unit. The inclusion of up to 30% of calcareous seaweed in replacement for calcite limestone in the diet of Japanese quails improves the weight and thickness of eggshells but does not influence the conservation of the eggs up to 21 days of storage.

Resumen Este estudio evaluó los efectos de diferentes fuentes de energía, como sustitutos del maíz, sobre la calidad de la carcasa y la carne de los corderos. Se identificaron, pesaron y distribuyeron 24 corderos machos no castrados en cuatro tratamientos: maíz, pulpa de cítricos, salvado de arroz y cáscaras de soya. Los corderos fueron confinados en corrales de engorde y cuando alcanzaron los 30 kg de peso vivo fueron sacrificados. Para el análisis de resultados se utilizó un diseño completamente aleatorio con diferentes réplicas y se utilizó la prueba de Tukey-5%. Para las variables de peso de la carcasa caliente y fría, el salvado de arroz fue inferior a los otros tratamientos. Para el color rojo de la carne, la pulpa de los cítricos presentó un resultado superior al maíz, mientras que el color de la carne y la grasa, la ternura objetiva y el área del ojo del lomo no difirieron entre tratamientos. Las diferentes fuentes de energía utilizadas en las dietas de terminación de corderos no alteraron la composición química de la carne ni las características de calidad.

Abstract This study evaluated the effects of different energy sources, as corn substitutes, on the carcass characteristics and meat quality of lambs. Twenty-four intact ram lambs were identified, weighed, and assigned to one of four dietary treatments: corn, citrus pulp, rice bran, and soybean hulls. The ram lambs were confined in feedlots, and when they reached 30 kg of live weight, they were slaughtered. A completely randomized design with different replicates was used for the analysis, along with the Tukey-5% test. For hot and cold carcass weight, rice bran produced lower values than the other dietary treatments. For the red color content of the meat, citrus pulp presented superior values when compared to corn, whereas meat and fat color, loin eye area, and objective tenderness did not differ between treatments. Different energetic sources used to replace corn in ram lambs finishing diets did not affect the proximate composition and quality of the meat.

ABSTRACT Carbon material is the largest material used as electrode on advanced energy storage devices. The modern lifestyle requires more energy, consequently, more smart energy use and efficient devices are needed. The constant evolution of materials technologies looking for green material and renewable raw material, that have minimal impact on the environment, is one of the most important subjects studied in recent years. The scientific and industry community are paying more attention to new forms of carbon such as nanotubes, graphene, and activated carbon fiber. The purpose of this work is to convert human hair into a hollow carbon filament to be used as a supercapacitor electrode. The human hair needs 3 stages to be converted into carbon filament: textile manufacture, oxidation, and carbonization. The electrochemical behavior was analyzed in a three-electrode electrochemical cell system with 2 M of H2SO4 electrolyte medium. The behavior of the electrode was characterized electrochemically by galvanostatic charge/discharge curves, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, showing 163 F g-1 of a maximum value of specific capacitance.

Objective: to verify the relationship between the socio-demographic and work profile of the nursing professionals and the patient safety climate in a public emergency hospital. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out with 177 nursing professionals from a public emergency hospital. For data collection, the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire - Short Form 2006 was used, validated and cross-culturally adapted to the Portuguese language. To check the factors related to the instrument’s domains, bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Results: working in the medical and surgical clinic or emergency room, on a night shift, and having the intention to leave nursing, reduced the general safety climate in the multiple regression analysis. The younger professionals, with less than four years in the institution, and those who worked in the night shift had a lower safety climate related to the perception of the management. On the other hand, having a work contract with a hired worker improved the general safety climate and workplace satisfaction. Conclusion: identifying predictors on patient safety scores is an important management tool that allows diagnosing, planning and executing activities from the domains that need to be improved.

Objetivo: verificar la relación entre el perfil sociodemográfico y laboral de los profesionales de enfermería y el clima de seguridad del paciente en un hospital público de urgencias. Método: estudio transversal realizado con 177 profesionales de enfermería de un hospital público de urgencias. Para la recopilación de datos, se utilizó el Safety Attitudes Questionnaire - Short Form 2006, validado y adaptado transculturalmente al idioma portugués. Para verificar los factores relacionados con los dominios del instrumento se realizaron análisis bivariados y multivariados. Resultados: actuar en la clínica médica y quirúrgica o en la sala de emergencias, en un turno nocturno, y tener la intención de abandonar la enfermería, redujo el clima de seguridad general en el análisis de regresión múltiple. Los profesionales más jóvenes, con menos de cuatro años en la institución, y aquellos que trabajaban en el turno nocturno tuvieron un clima menor de seguridad relacionado con la percepción de la gerencia. Por otro lado, tener un contrato de trabajo con un trabajador contratado mejoró el clima general de seguridad y la satisfacción laboral. Conclusión: identificar los predictores en las puntuaciones de seguridad del paciente es una herramienta de gestión importante que permite diagnosticar, planificar y ejecutar actividades desde los dominios que deben mejorarse.

Para a coleta de dados, foi utilizado o Safety Attitudes Questionnaire - Short Form 2006, validado e adaptado transculturalmente para a língua portuguesa. Para verificar os fatores relacionados aos domínios do instrumento, foram realizadas análises bivariadas e multivariáveis. Resultados: atuar na clínica médica e cirúrgica ou pronto-socorro, em turno noturno e possuir intenção de sair da enfermagem diminuiu o clima de segurança geral, em análise de regressão múltipla. Os profissionais mais novos, com menos de quatro anos na instituição e os que atuavam no turno noturno apresentaram menor clima de segurança relacionado à percepção da gerência. Em contrapartida, ter vínculo de trabalho celetista melhorou o clima de segurança geral e a satisfação no trabalho. Conclusão: identificar preditores sobre os escores de segurança do paciente é uma importante ferramenta gerencial que permite diagnosticar, planejar e executar atividades a partir dos domínios que precisam ser aprimorados.

Resumo No Brasil, há uma crença cultural de que a atitude mais sábia para garantir uma economia doméstica segura e estável é a aquisição da casa própria. Por gerações, o “sonho da casa própria” tem sido cultivado como um horizonte a se atingir. Confirmando essa tendência, desde a década de 1920, a “casa própria” torna-se uma noção mobilizada nos periódicos da imprensa negra, circulando em diversos artigos como uma aspiração desejável e uma orientação ao público dos jornais. Entre 1924 e 1937, dois dos principais jornais da imprensa negra paulista, O Clarim da Alvorada e A Voz da Raça, realizaram uma campanha em favor da casa própria, difundindo entre as famílias negras paulistanas a ideia da importância da aquisição imobiliária. Essas campanhas constituem um indício importante da relevância da aquisição residencial para as famílias negras do período. Neste trabalho, procuramos analisar essa importância como estratégia de seguridade social intergeracional, por meio da apresentação de três casos de famílias negras que realizaram esse objetivo entre as décadas de 1920 e 1940. Os depoimentos das famílias negras aqui reportados indicam precocidade, especificidades e estratégias que representam novos desafios para a reflexão sobre a formulação do problema da casa própria, a partir do ponto de vista racial.

ABSTRACT In Brazil, there is a cultural belief that property acquisition is the wisest attitude to ensure a safe and stable economy. For generations, the "dream of property ownership" has been cultivated as a horizon to be achieved. Confirming this tendency, since the 1920s, "casa propria" (home ownership) became a notion mobilized in the black press periodicals, circulating as a desirable aspiration and an orientation to the journals public. Between 1924 and 1937, two of the main newspapers of São Paulo black press, O Clarim da Alvorada and A Voz da Raça, carried out a campaign in favor of property ownership, spreading among paulista black families the importance of property acquisition. These campaigns are an important sign for the relevance of buying a property for black families at that time. In this paper, we seek to analyze it as an intergenerational social security strategy, through the presentation of three cases of black families that accomplished this goal between 1920s and 1940s. The black families testimonies reported here indicate precocity, specificities and strategies that represent new challenges for the formulation of property ownership problem, from a racial point of view.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: A dor neuropática é uma condição dolorosa complexa, de difícil diagnóstico e tratamento, que causa um impacto negativo na saúde e qualidade de vida dos pacientes. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a correlação entre a dor e a qualidade de vida, identificando os aspectos limitantes no cotidiano desses indivíduos para que a educação do paciente seja recomendada no gerenciamento dessa condição. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, transversal, realizado em uma Clínica da Dor, com 61 pacientes de diagnóstico clínico de dor neuropática. Foram utilizados uma entrevista semiestruturada, o questionário sobre dor neuropática Douleur Neuropathique 4 Questions e, para avaliar a qualidade de vida o questionário World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF. RESULTADOS: Dos pacientes avaliados, 57,3% eram mulheres, média de idade 50,6±13,12 anos. Quanto ao nível educacional 59% frequentaram o ensino fundamental e, 61% eram casados. Em 39%, as doenças foram as principais causas de dor e, os problemas físicos como as principais mudanças após a dor (57%). A maioria dos pacientes apresentou atitude positiva em relação à dor neuropática (68%), o domínio físico foi o mais comprometido na qualidade de vida. Todos os domínios do instrumento de avaliação da qualidade de vida apresentaram coeficientes alfa de Cronbach (<0,700) com média aderência, especialmente o domínio geral, com alfa de Cronbach negativo (-0,055). CONCLUSÃO: Conhecer os aspectos do impacto da dor na qualidade de vida dos pacientes apresenta-se como um recurso científico útil na prática clínica em saúde e estimula um modelo de intervenção educativa onde o paciente seja o principal sujeito do gerenciamento da sua condição dolorosa.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Neuropathic pain is a complex, painful condition, difficult to diagnose and treat with a negative impact on patients’ health and quality of life. The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation between pain and quality of life, identifying the limiting aspects in the daily life of these individuals, so that patient education is recommended in the management of this condition. METHODS: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in a Pain Clinic with 61 patients diagnosed with neuropathic pain. The tools used to assess the quality of life were a semi-structured interview, the Douleur Neuropathique 4 Questions questionnaire, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF. RESULTS: Of the patients, 57.3% were women, average age 50.6±13.12 years. As for the educational level, 59% attended elementary school, and 61% were married. In 39%, diseases were the main causes of pain and physical problems as the main changes after pain (57%). The majority of patients had a positive attitude towards neuropathic pain (68%). The physical domain was the most impaired in quality of life. All the domains of the quality of life assessment instrument had Cronbach’s alpha coefficients (<0.700) with average adherence, especially the general domain, with Cronbach’s alpha negative (-0.055). CONCLUSION: Knowing the aspects of the impact of pain on patients’ quality of life comes to be a useful scientific resource in the clinical practice and encourages a model of educational intervention where the client is the main subject in managing their painful condition.

Resumo Este artigo busca recuperar os fundamentos raciais que contribuíram para configurar as propostas de zoneamento compreensivo desenvolvidas por Harland Bartholomew para a cidade de St. Louis, Missouri, entre 1916 e 1947. Além de ter sido um dos urbanistas que mais produziu planos e propostas de zoneamento dos EUA, Bartholomew também tornou-se referência fundamental para o urbanismo em São Paulo. O caso de St. Louis é emblemático por ter se implantado em um contexto de grande disputa racial no território, em que parte da elite branca que dava sustentação política aos seus planos urbanísticos defendia a adoção de normas legais de regulação da segregação residencial na cidade. Assim, analisamos os planos feitos por Bartholomew para St. Louis entre 1918 e 1946, cotejando as decisões estabelecidas nesses processos com os embates raciais presentes em cada momento. Com este trabalho, buscamos trazer novos elementos para o debate público acerca da pertinência do zoneamento como instrumento de regulação de uso e ocupação do solo urbano.

Abstract This paper seeks to reexamine the racial questions that helped shape the comprehensive zoning proposals developed by Harland Bartholomew for St. Louis, Missouri, between 1916 and 1947. In addition to being one of the most productive urban planners in the US, Bartholomew also became a key reference for urban planning in São Paulo. The case of St. Louis is emblematic for its context of sharp racial territorial dispute, in which part of the white elite that politically supported the plans advocated the adoption of an urban residential segregation law. Thus, we analyze the plans made for St. Louis between 1918 and 1946, comparing its decisions to the racial strife present at each moment in the city. With this article, we aim to bring new elements to the public debate regarding zoning as a pertinent instrument for regulating the use and occupation of urban land.

RESUMO Este consenso de recomendações para a radioterapia (RT) hipofracionada de toda a mama foi organizado pela Sociedade Brasileira de Radioterapia (SBRT) considerando o cenário ideal para indicação e segurança na tecnologia aplicada. Questões de controvérsias e contraindicações (RT hipofracionada em pacientes submetidas à quimioterapia [QT], RT hipofracionada nas drenagens linfáticas, RT hipofracionada após mastectomia com ou sem reconstrução imediata, a realização de reforço de dose em leito cirúrgico [ou boost], RT hipofracionada em pacientes com idade menor que 50 anos, RT hipofracionada em mamas volumosas, RT hipofracionada em histologia de carcinoma in situ [CDIS]) foram discutidas em encontro presencial, sendo o consenso atingido quando existisse concordância de pelo menos 75% dos panelistas. O grau de recomendação foi também sugerido de acordo com o nível de evidência científico disponível, qualificado entre fraco, médio ou forte. Assim, este consenso deverá servir para auxiliar os especialistas da radioterapia brasileira em relação às indicações e particularidades dessa técnica, como uma alternativa segura e viável para a realidade nacional.

SUMMARY This recommendation consensus for hypofractionated whole-breast radiotherapy (RT) was organized by the Brazilian Society of Radiotherapy (SBRT) considering the optimal scenario for indication and safety in the technology applied. All controversies and contraindication matters (hypofractionated RT in patients who underwent chemotherapy [CT], hypofractionated RT in lymphatic drainage, hypofractionated RT after mastectomy with or without immediate reconstruction, boost during surgery, hypofractionated RT in patients under 50 years old, hypofractionated RT in large breasts, hypofractionated RT in histology of carcinoma in situ [DCIS]) was discussed during a meeting in person, and a consensus was reached when there was an agreement of at least 75% among panel members. The grade for recommendation was also suggested according to the level of scientific evidence available, qualified as weak, medium, or strong. Thus, this consensus will aid Brazilian radiotherapy experts regarding indications and particularities of this technique as a viable and safe alternative for the national reality.

This study investigates the mechanisms of interaction between benzophenone derivatives and cruzain and Llacys1 (the protein expressed by cysteine protease gene isoform 1 of L. amazonensis) by homology modelling, docking and molecular dynamics simulation. The results predict that the same binding site in cruzain and Llacys1 is involved in complexes with benzophenone derivatives that cause non-competitive inhibition of the enzymes. The Gln residue is conserved among the enzymes, and is shown to be a key residue in the allosteric site of these cysteine proteases and in the interaction with benzophenone derivatives. The binding free energies highlight that the main energetic term contributing to the cruzain- and Llacys1-benzophenone compound interactions is the van der Waals term. Experimental results showed that benzophenone derivatives are promising potential inhibitors of cysteine proteases. Moreover, we found that two benzophenone derivatives are the most effective inhibitors of cruzain and L. amazonensis cysteine protease.

RESUMO As disputas entre os setores público e privado em relação ao Parque Ibirapuera voltam ao debate público com a proposta do novo prefeito de São Paulo de conceder a gestão de algumas das principais áreas verdes da cidade a empresas. Na verdade, o tema nunca saiu da ordem do dia, assumindo diferentes formas. Este artigo reúne uma variedade de documentos de naturezas diversas constantes, sobretudo, no Arquivo Histórico Municipal, referentes a conflitos pela propriedade ou usufruto de terrenos localizados no interior da gleba designada como parque. O período analisado cobre os anos entre a destinação do terreno, em 1926, e a realização do parque, em 1954. O nosso propósito é evidenciar os múltiplos interesses na área, despertados não apenas entre particulares mas também entre importantes instituições de caráter público e privado que visavam se instalar na região e foram pior ou melhor sucedidas em seu avanço sobre o grande terreno público reservado nesse trecho nobre do tecido urbano. Com esse objetivo em vista, buscamos pautar a atual discussão sobre o parque com relevantes dados históricos sobre o processo de preservação da gleba vazia antes da sua implantação, evidenciando esses conflitos.

ABSTRACT The disputes between the public and private sectors in relation to the Ibirapuera Park return to debate with the proposal of the new mayor of São Paulo, to grant the management of some of the main green areas of the city to companies. In fact, the theme has never left the agenda, although it has taken on different forms along time. This article brings together a variety of documents of diverse natures, mainly found in the Municipal Historic Archives, concerning conflicts over ownership or usufruct of land within the area designated as a park. The period analyzed covers the years between the destination of the lands in 1926 and the realization of the park in 1954. Our purpose is to highlight the multiple interests in the area, taken not only between individuals but also between important either public and private institutions who sought to settle in that region and were better or worse succeeded in their advance over the large public terrain reserved in that noble stretch of the urban fabric. With this aim in view, we seek to inform the current discussion about the park, with relevant historical data on the process of preservation of the empty site before its implementation, in order to evidence these conflicts.
