The repercussions of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have generated effects on the working modality of teachers, in whom it is convenient to study variables associated with well-being. The objective with this research was to determine whether social support at work and workload predict satisfaction with life in a sample of Peruvian teachers. The methodology was a predictive and cross-sectional study, carried out on 584 Peruvian teachers of both genders selected in a non-probabilistic way; to whom the social support scale at work, the workload scale and the life satisfaction scale were applied. The survey was carried out virtually, and descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient and structural equation modelling (SEM) were conducted to examine the hypothetical model. In the analysis of the proposed model, an adequate fit was obtained, χ² (116) = 435.5, p < .001, CFI = .963, RMSEA = .069, SRMR = .059. Thus, H1and H2 were confirmed on the positive effect of social support at work, β = .27, p < .001, and the negative effect of workload, β = -.28, p < .001 in satisfaction with life. Likewise, the t values of the beta regression coefficients of the predictor variables were highly significant (p < 0.01). It was concluded that social support at work and an adequate workload predict a better level of satisfaction with life in a sample of Peruvian teachers.

Abstract: Different biodiversity metrics should be explored to more efficiently assess observed changes in communities. However, the performance of different biodiversity metrics has not been explored in the Gulf of Batabanó, making difficult to select suitable indices for environmental monitoring. To solve this problem, six biodiversity metrics (species richness, Pielou equity, Shannon diversity, taxonomic diversity, average taxonomic distinctiveness, and variation in taxonomic distinctiveness) were compared to determine their congruence and responses to abiotic variables (salinity, temperature, turbidity, depth) and factors (zones and years). The results based on the correlations between the metrics and their responses to the abiotic variables and factors analyzed showed complementarity between species richness, Pielou evenness, Shannon diversity, average taxonomic distinctiveness, and variation in taxonomic distinctiveness, not being the case for taxonomic diversity. According to the results of this work, the use of species richness and taxonomic distinctiveness metrics ∆+ and Λ+ is suggested to evaluate the environmental quality of the Gulf of Batabanó. In addition, their performances in other groups of organisms should be evaluated.

Resumen: Diferentes métricas de biodiversidad se deben explorar para evaluar de manera más eficiente los cambios observados en las comunidades. Sin embargo, el desempeño de distintas métricas de biodiversidad no ha sido explorado en el golfo de Batabanó, lo que puede dificultar la selección de índices adecuados para el monitoreo ambiental. Para solventar esta problemática seis métricas de biodiversidad (riqueza de especies, equidad de Pielou, diversidad de Shannon, diversidad taxonómica, distintividad taxonómica promedio y variación en la distintividad taxonómica) fueron comparadas para determinar su congruencia y respuestas ante variables abióticas (salinidad, temperatura, turbidez, profundidad) y factores (zonas y años). Los resultados obtenidos por correlaciones entre las métricas y sus respuestas a las variables abióticas y factores analizados mostraron complementariedad entre la riqueza de especies, equidad de Pielou, diversidad de Shannon, distintividad taxonómica promedio y variación en la distintividad taxonómica, no siendo así para la diversidad taxonómica. Según los resultados de este trabajo, se sugiere el uso de la riqueza de especies y las métricas de distintividad taxonómica ∆+ y Λ+ para evaluar la calidad ambiental del golfo de Batabanó. Además se deben evaluar sus desempeños en otros grupos de organismos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: the process of training clinical skills to diagnose leprosy by fifth-year medical students constitutes an important element in the early diagnosis of the disease and its control. Objective: to systematize the theoretical references to support the training process of fifth year Medicine students in the diagnosis of leprosy. Methods: for data collection, articles from the pages Scielo, Google Scholar, MEDISAN, Elsevier and doctoral theses in medical education sciences, either electronic or printed were reviewed for a total of 57; out of them, 26 were selected on the subject studied. Development: Systematization was carried out on the concepts of training, skill and development linked to the dermatoneurological examination and the training process of fifth year Medicine students, as well as the contribution of this skill in the early diagnosis of leprosy. Conclusions: the systematization carried out on the training of fifth-year medical students in the diagnosis of leprosy allowed establishing an approach to their theoretical references, as well as recognizing the need to develop new teaching methods to provide them with the necessary knowledge and practice to face the challenges of the demanding hygienic-epidemiological situation with actions aimed at the patient, the family and the community.

RESUMEN Introducción: el proceso formación de habilidades clínicas para diagnosticar la lepra por estudiantes de quinto año de Medicina constituye un eslabón importante en el diagnóstico precoz de la enfermedad y su control. Objetivo: sistematizar los referentes teóricos que sustentan el proceso de formación de los estudiantes de quinto año de Medicina en el diagnóstico de la lepra. Métodos: para la recogida de la información se revisaron artículos de las páginas Scielo, Google Scholar, MEDISAN, Elsevier y tesis doctorales en ciencias de la educación médica, digitalizados e impresos para un total de 57; de ellos fueron seleccionados 26 sobre la temática estudiada. Desarrollo: se realizó una sistematización sobre los conceptos de formación, habilidad y desarrollo vinculados al examen dermatoneurológico y el proceso de formación de los estudiantes de quinto año de Medicina, así como la contribución de esta habilidad en el diagnóstico precoz de la lepra. Conclusiones: el análisis realizado sobre la formación de los estudiantes de quinto año de Medicina en el diagnóstico de la lepra permitió establecer un acercamiento a sus referentes teóricos, así como reconocer la necesidad de desarrollar nuevos métodos de enseñanza que les brinden el conocimiento y la práctica necesaria para enfrentar los retos de la demandante situación higiénico-epidemiológica con acciones dirigidas al paciente, la familia y la comunidad.

Abstract Lung cancer is the leading cause of death due to cancer worldwide; representing 18.4% of cancer mortality. Taking into account the impact of this pathology and the increase in the tendency of using immune checkpoint inhibitors PD-1/PD-L1 for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), a brief review was conducted of the evidence that evaluates the efficacy and safety of these drugs. Finding that there is a benefit in using immune checkpoint inhibitors PD-1/PD-L1 for the treatment of patients with metastatic NSCLC evaluated by overall survival, progression-free survival and adverse effects when used as monotherapy compared to chemotherapy. Although in combination therapy the adverse effects are increased when compared to chemotherapy without immunotherapy. In addition, some predictive factors of hyperprogressive disease have been found, which can be used to identify patients who will not benefit from immune therapy, although there is room for further investigation.

Resumen El cáncer de pulmón es la principal causa de muerte debida a cáncer a nivel mundial; representando el 18.4% de la mortalidad por cáncer. Teniendo en cuenta el impacto de esta patología y el aumento en la tendencia de utilización de los inhibidores de punto de control inmunitario PD-1/PD-L1 (programmed death-ligand 1, molécula de muerte programada 1, y su ligando PD-L1) para el tratamiento del cáncer de pulmón de célula no pequeña (CPCNP) se realizó una revisión breve de la evidencia que evalúa la eficacia y seguridad de estos medicamentos. Se encontró que existe un beneficio al utilizar los inhibidores del punto de control inmunitario PD-1/PD-L1 para el tratamiento de pacientes con CPCNP metastásico evaluado por la supervivencia global, supervivencia libre de progresión y los eventos adversos al utilizarse como monoterapia comparada con quimioterapia; aunque en terapia combinada los eventos adversos aumentan al compararlo con quimioterapia sin inmunoterapia. Además, se han encontrado algunos factores predictores de enfermedad hiperprogresiva que sirven para identificar los pacientes que no se beneficiarán de la terapia inmunitaria, aunque aún hay espacio para investigar al respecto.

ABSTRACT Typhoid fever caused by Salmonella Paratyphi A (paratyphoid fever) is indistinguishable from that caused by Salmonella Typhi and the degree of incidence has increased in recent years, especially in Southeast Asia. On the other hand, diarrhea and other enteric complications caused by Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium continue to be a serious health problem, especially in underdeveloped countries. Vaccines continue to be the most effective way to prevent these diseases. There are vaccines based on Salmonella Typhi capsular polysaccharide, which protects against typhoid fever; however, there are no effective vaccines licensed for use in humans to prevent disease caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella serotypes. Developing a formulation capable of protecting against these diseases remains a challenge for the scientific community. In this work, the reactivity of the sera of mice immunized subcutaneously with formulations based on Outer Membrane Vesicles (OMV) derived from Salmonella Paratyphi A, Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium, was evaluated by Western blot, against the respective cell lysates to identify the formulation that induces the best cross immune response. The results obtained indicated a high reactivity of all the sera to the lysates; without an apparent difference between them. Undoubtedly, immunogenicity tests followed by cross-challenge tests should be performed to identify a vaccine candidate. These results suggest that the OMV used in this study are composed of possibly conserved antigens in the three Salmonella serotypes and that they can induce a broad-spectrum immune response and cross protection.

RESUMEN La fiebre tifoidea causada por Salmonella Paratyphi A (fiebre paratifoidea) es indistinguible de la producida por Salmonella Typhi y el grado de incidencia ha aumentado en los últimos años, especialmente en el sudeste asiático. Por otro lado, la diarrea y otras complicaciones entéricas causadas por Salmonella Enteritidis y Salmonella Typhimurium continúan siendo un problema de salud grave, especialmente en países subdesarrollados. Las vacunas continúan siendo la forma más efectiva de prevenir estas enfermedades. Existen vacunas basadas en el polisacárido capsular de Salmonella Typhi que protegen contra la fiebre tifoidea; sin embargo, no hay vacunas efectivas licenciadas para uso en humanos que prevengan las enfermedades producidas por los serotipos de Salmonella no tifoideas. El desarrollo de una formulación con capacidad para proteger contra estas enfermedades sigue siendo un desafío para la comunidad científica. En este trabajo se evaluó, mediante Western blot, la reactividad de los sueros de ratones inmunizados por vía subcutánea con formulaciones basadas en vesículas de membrana externa derivadas de Salmonella Paratyphi A, Salmonella Enteritidis y Salmonella Typhimurium, contra los respectivos lisados celulares, para identificar la formulación que induce la mejor respuesta inmunológica cruzada. Los resultados obtenidos indicaron una alta reactividad de todos los sueros a los lisados, sin una diferencia aparente entre ellos. Sin lugar a dudas, se deberán realizar pruebas de inmunogenicidad seguidas de pruebas de retos cruzados para identificar un candidato vacunal. Estos resultados sugieren que las vesículas de membrana externa empleadas en este estudio están compuestas por antígenos posiblemente conservados en los tres serotipos de Salmonella y que pueden inducir una respuesta inmune de amplio espectro y protección cruzada.

ABSTRACT The spatiotemporal variations of megazoobenthos on soft bottoms in Buena Vista (BV) and San Juan de Los Remedios (SJR) bays, Cuba, were assessed to infer the effects of the elimination of bottom trawl fisheries and the creation of protected areas. Data were collected at 11 sites in 2010-2013 (six routines and five exploratories) and 11 sites in 2014-2017 (four routines and seven exploratories). Samples were obtained by dredging. Mollusks were the most frequent and diverse group, followed by echinoderms and crustaceans. Total density (7.60 ind m−2) and biomass (15.82 g m−2) of the benthic community were highest in SJR in 2015. Although total biomass was lower at BV (t = 2.21; P = 0.032), there were no significant differences in density between bays (t = 0.77; P = 0.444). The site with a lower total density and biomass was located at BV. There were no differences between years except at one site, where density increased between 2010 and 2017. Total density and biomass were not significantly different inside and outside of the Zone Under Special Regime of Use and Protection (ZUSRUP) at the beginning of the sampled period. However, both density and biomass were significantly higher within the ZUSRUP at the end (2017), which suggests this protected area's effectivity. The progressive increase in density at one site and greater density and biomass values at SJR, where bottom trawl fisheries were more intensive, suggest eliminating bottom trawl nets may have contributed to the benthic fauna recovery.

Abstract This is the case of a 26-year-old man that presented a visual acuity decrease after unintentionally looking at a light projected in a laser show. On examination, a premacular hemorrhage was observed in the left eye. Optical coherence tomography demonstrated the presence of a sub-inner limiting membrane hemorrhage. A pars plana vitrectomy was performed with internal limiting membrane peeling, followed by rapid visual acuity improvement.

Resumen Presentación de un caso clínico de un paciente de sexo masculino de 26 años, que acude por baja visual, tras ver accidentalmente una luz proyectada por un láser de espectáculos, y que presenta una hemorragia prerretiniana en el ojo izquierdo. La tomografía de coherencia óptica mostró la presencia de una hemorragia sublimitante interna. Se le realizó una vitrectomía pars plana con pelado de la limitante interna, y se produjo una rápida mejoría de la agudeza visual.

ABSTRACT: The university radio in Latin America has brought the academy closer to society through speech and sound. Its consolidation is still under development but with promising results today. This research presents the emergence of university radio in Latin America, its function, and the current panorama of university radios in Ecuador. A qualitativemethodology, with descriptive and explanatory design, was employed in addition to a hermeneutical bibliographic review of previous studies, data analysis, and non-participant observation. The obtained results show the growth of this media, exposed in the first map of Ecuadorian university radios, and how higher education centers utilize the radio as a tool in the teaching-learning processes.

RESUMEN: La radio universitaria en Latinoamérica ha permitido acercar la academia a la sociedad a través de la palabra y sonoridad. Su consolidación aún está en desarrollo, pero con prometedores resultados en la actualidad. La investigación expone el surgimiento de la radio universitaria en Latinoamérica, su función y el panorama actual de las radios universitarias en Ecuador. ABSTRACT Introduction: pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation has a high incidence and mortality in intensive care units. Objective: to characterize patients with mechanical ventilation admitted the Intensive Care Unit No. 2 at Abel Santamaría General Teaching Hospital during 2018. Methods: a descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was conducted in patients with a diagnosis of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation. The target group consisted of 92, working with the totality of them. Chi Square and Odds Ratio tests were used, as well as the distribution by absolute frequency and relative percentage. Results: a predominance of male patients (54,35 %) was found, age group 70 to 79 years old (32,60 %) and diagnosis on admission of cerebrovascular disease (36,96 %). Pneumonia associated with prolonged mechanical ventilation represented 76,08 % and Gram-negative germs 86,96 %, patients with Enterobacter.sp (47,83 %) predominating. Mechanical ventilation of more than 14 days represented 58,7 %. Patients older than 70 years old (OR=10,8) and those with mechanical ventilation of more than 14 days (OR=2,93) had a higher risk of death. Conclusions: cerebrovascular diseases were common as a diagnosis at admission. Infection with Gram-negative germs developed during a prolonged mechanical ventilation process was common. Ages over 70 years and prolonged mechanical ventilation were risk factors for mortality.

RESUMEN Introducción: la neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica presenta alta incidencia y mortalidad en las unidades de cuidados intensivos. Objetivo: caracterizar a los pacientes con ventilación mecánica, ingresados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos No. 2 del Hospital General Docente Abel Santamaría durante el año 2018 Método: se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal, en pacientes con diagnóstico de neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica. El universo estuvo constituido por los 92, con los que se trabajó en su totalidad. Se empleó la prueba Chi Cuadrado y Odds Ratio, así como la distribución mediante frecuencia absoluta y relativa porcentual Resultados: se encontró predominio de pacientes del sexo masculino (54,35 %), del grupo etario de 70 a 79 años de edad (32,6 %), y diagnóstico al ingreso de enfermedad cerebrovascular (36,96 %). La neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica tardía representó el 76,08 % y los gérmenes Gram negativos el 86,96 %, predominaron los pacientes con Enterobacter, sp (47,83 %). La ventilación mecánica de más de 14 días representó el 58,7 %. Se encontró mayor riesgo de fallecer en los pacientes mayores de 70 años de edad (OR=10,8) y aquellos con ventilación mecánica mayor de 14 días (OR=2,93). Conclusiones: las enfermedades cerebrovasculares fueron comunes como diagnostico al ingreso. La infección por gérmenes Gram negativos desarrollados durante un proceso de ventilación tardía fue comunes. Las edades mayores de 70 años y una ventilación mecánica prolongada constituyeron factores de riesgo para la mortalidad.

Abstract Clinical case: A 54-year-old man had an unremarkable past medical history and was evaluated due to lower urinary tract symptoms. He presented with phimosis and a hard lesion was palpated in the glans penis. A dorsal slit of the foreskin was performed, revealing a black, warty tumor of stony-hard consistency. Treatment was total penectomy. There was hepatic, splenic, and left inguinal lymph node tumor progression, as well as blastic lesions at the L4, T7, and T9 levels. Temozolomide was the initial palliative treatment, followed by interferon alpha-2b and zoledronic acid. The patient died 16 months after diagnosis Relevance: Melanoma of the penis is an aggressive, rapidly progressing, malignant cutaneous neoplasia, with a high mortality rate, that derives from atypical melanocytic proliferation. It accounts for less than 1% of the cases of penile cancer and less than 0.2% of all melanomas. Approximately 200 cases have been reported in the literature. Clinical implications: Treatment is surgical, through total penectomy, but there is no standardized management. The most reasonable treatment option appears to be radical surgery, when possible, together with adjuvant therapy. Conclusions: Malignant melanoma of the penis is a cutaneous tumor of poor prognosis, given its great capacity to produce metastases, especially through lymphatic dissemination. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are only palliative or adjuvant treatments and offer varying results.

Resumen Descripción caso clínico: Masculino de 54 años de edad, sin antecedentes de importancia, valorado por síntomas obstructivos del tracto urinario inferior. Presenta fimosis y se palpa en glande lesión pétrea, se realiza incisión dorsal de prepucio teniendo como hallazgo tumor en glande de aspecto verrugoso, color negro, consistencia pétrea. El tratamiento consistió en penectomía total. Presenta progresión de la actividad tumoral hepática, esplénica y ganglionar inguinal izquierdo además de lesiones blásticas a nivel de L4, T7 y T9. Tratado inicialmente de forma paliativa con temozolamida y posteriormente con INF alfa 2b y ácido zoledrónico. El paciente fallece a los 16 meses de diagnóstico. Relevancia: El melanoma de pene neoplasia cutánea maligna agresiva, de rápida progresión y con alta mortalidad, derivado de la proliferación de melanocitos atípicos representa menos del 1% de los casos de cáncer de pene y menos del 0.2% de todos los melanomas. Se han reportado alrededor de 200 casos en la literatura. Implicaciones clínicas: No existe tratamiento estandarizado, el tratamiento es quirúrgico mediante penectomía total, sin embargo, no existe un estándar de tratamiento. La opción de tratamiento más racional parece ser una cirugía radical si es posible junto con la terapia adyuvante. Conclusiones: El melanoma de pene neoplasia cutánea maligna de mal pronóstico por su gran capacidad de producir metástasis y rápida diseminación principalmente por vía linfática. La quimioterapia y radioterapia son solo paliativas o adyuvantes con resultados variables.

Abstract: The Gulf of Batabanó (GB), is the region of the Cuban marine platform of greater extension and fishing importance. Habitat effects of marine species have been reported as a consequence of natural and anthropic factors. The objective was to determine significant spatio-temporal variations in the hydrology of GB in different periods and environmental situations. For this, the variability of rainfall and air temperature was analyzed in 1975-1995 and 1996-2015 periods of low and high cyclonic activity, the thermohaline characteristics of the GB before (1959-1970) and after (2006-2016) the river damming, and the effect of two hurricanes almost simultaneous in 2008 ("Gustav" and "Ike"). Significant differences in the interannual variability of meteorological parameters between the north and south of the GB corresponded to local characteristics, and changes occurred in the distribution of the months of maximum rainfall. The perennial impact of the damming, coupled with temporary precipitation deficits in spring, summer and winter, caused thermohaline increases in 2006-2016, with an increase of 0.7 °C in water temperature and 2.3 in average salinity of the GB, with respect to 1959-1970. Salinity showed an increase in the distribution of hypersaline values, and an average > 36 in months of high rainfall, with a general average of 35.4 in 1959 -1970 and 37.7 in 2006-2016, this suggests that damming has been a major factor in the increase in salinity. The thermohaline impact in the GB of two hurricanes in 2008 was restored in the short term, with greater inertia in turbidity.

Resumen: El golfo de Batabanó (GB), es la región de la plataforma marina cubana de mayor extensión e importancia pesquera. Afectaciones al hábitat de especies marinas han sido señaladas como consecuencia de factores naturales y antrópicos. El objetivo fue determinar variaciones espacio-temporales significativas en la hidrología del GB en diferentes periodos y situaciones ambientales. Para ello se analizó la variabilidad de la lluvia y la temperatura del aire en 1975-1995 y 1996-2015 periodos de baja y alta actividad ciclónica, las características termohalinas del GB anterior (1959-1970) y posterior (2006-2016) al represamiento fluvial, y el efecto de dos huracanes casi simultaneaos en 2008 (“Gustav” e “Ike”). Diferencias significativas en la variabilidad interanual de parámetros meteorológicos entre el norte y el sur del GB respondieron a características locales, y ocurrieron cambios en la distribución de los meses de máximas precipitaciones. El represamiento fluvial, sumado a déficits de precipitación en primavera, verano e invierno, provocaron aumentos termohalinos en 2006-2016, con incremento de 0,7 °C en la temperatura del agua y de 2,3 en la salinidad promedio del GB, respecto a 1959-1970. La salinidad mostró una ampliación en la distribución de valores hipersalinos, y media > 36 en meses de altas precipitaciones, con promedio general de 35,4 en 1959-1970 y 37,7 en 2006-2016, esto sugiere que el represamiento ha sido un factor principal en las variaciones de salinidad. El impacto termohalino en el GB de dos huracanes en 2008, se restableció en corto plazo, con mayor inercia en la turbidez.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to approach the work of one of the most notable exponents of the Theory of Dependency, the Brazilian economist and sociologist Ruy Mauro Marini, through the analysis of his 1973 work "Dialectic of Dependence". Analyze the power relations established between the countries of the center and the periphery from the approach of the dependency exposed by the author. The Unit becomes a central analytical category to explain underdevelopment in Latin America, to which are added other categories such as superexploitation, and sub-imperialism. Its conception about the term allows us to understand the economic dependence existing in the peripheral countries, not only as a process generated and maintained by asymmetric relations in the international market; but also and more importantly, conditioned by the mechanisms and platforms through which central capitalism is based in Latin American economies.

RESUMEN El presente artículo aborda la obra de uno de los exponentes más notables de la Teoría de la Dependencia, el economista y sociólogo brasileño Ruy Mauro Marini, a través del análisis de su obra “Dialéctica de la Dependencia” de 1973. Analiza las relaciones de poder que se establecen entre los países del centro y de la periferia desde el enfoque de la dependencia expuesto por el autor. La Dependencia deviene en categoría analítica central para explicar el subdesarrollo en América Latina, a lo que se suman otras categorías como superexplotación, y subimperialismo. Su concepción a propósito del término permite entender la dependencia económica existente en los países periféricos, no solo como un proceso generado y mantenido por relaciones asimétricas en el mercado internacional; sino además y más importante condicionado por los mecanismos y plataformas a través de los cuales se asientan el capitalismo central en las economías latinoamericanas.

Abstract Introduction: The Bochdalek hernia is the most common congenital diaphragmatic defect. There are less than 200 cases reported in adults, which represent about 5% of the cases in medical literature; therefore, its diagnosis is hard to make. Clinical case: A 23-year-old female patient who was referred from her medical institution with a diagnosis of spontaneous pneumothorax after suffering from left hemithorax pain and dyspnea 24 hours after undergoing labor. At the emergency room, an endopleural tube was placed, but since there was no pulmonary re-expansion, an unenhanced CT scan was performed and a medical petition was requested to the radiology and surgery department. A diagnosis of incarcerated Bochdalek hernia was made and the patient underwent an emergency laparotomy with primary closure. She recovered successfully and was discharged from hospital on the fourth postoperative day. Discussion: Bochdalek hernia is misdiagnosed in about 38% of the cases because of its low incidence and the different types of clinical presentations. In this case, the main diagnosis was initially a spontaneous pneumothorax with endopleural seal placement, which could have caused several complications. Conclusion: The Bochdalek hernia represents a diagnostic challenge because delaying its management is associated with high-risk complications.

Resumen Introducción: La hernia de Bochdalek es el tipo de hernia diafragmática congénita más frecuente. Existen menos de 200 reportes en adultos, lo cual representa el 5% de la literatura médica. Por lo que su diagnóstico es excepcional. Caso clínico: Mujer de 23 años de edad, ingresó referida de su unidad de salud con diagnóstico de neumotórax espontáneo tras presentar dolor en el hemitórax izquierdo y disnea 24 horas posteriores a trabajo de parto. En el servicio de urgencias se colocó sonda endopleural; sin embargo, al no obtener reexpansión pulmonar, se solicitó TAC simple toracoabdominal e interconsulta con los servicios de radiología y cirugía. Se realizó diagnóstico de hernia de Bochdalek incarcerada y laparotomía urgente con cierre primario del defecto herniario. Cursó con adecuada evolución y fue egresada al cuarto día postoperatorio. Discusión: El diagnóstico de hernia de Bochdalek se asocia a errores diagnósticos hasta en 38% de los casos, dada su baja incidencia y variedad de presentación clínica. En este caso se realizó un diagnóstico inicial de neumotórax con colocación de sonda endopleural, lo cual pudo haber ocasionado graves consecuencias. Conclusión: El diagnóstico de hernia de Bochdalek representa un reto ya que el retraso del manejo se asocia a riesgo elevado de complicaciones.

SUMMARY The African bee (Apis mellifera scutellata) was introduced from South Africa to Brazil in 1956 to induce genetic recombinations and generate segregants adapted to tropical areas; however, 26 colonies escaped and a process of Africanization started in the American continent. An experimental apiary was integrated by recombination of European and Africanized germplasm for breeding purposes, which has been maintained without application of acaricide against varroasis for more than 20 years. The population was generated by controlled mating of European bees (Apis mellifera ligustica) that had been under genetic improvement for about 15 years (source of drones) with Africanized bees (A. m. scutellata with probable genetic recombination with other European subspecies) that had been under to a selection process for its semi-domestication and genetic improvement under apicultural criteria (source of queen bees). In order to obtain information on the maternal origin of the population, the intergenic regions COI-COII and ND5 of the mtDNA were sequenced in a random sample of 19 hives. The maternal African origin of A. m. scutellata (74%) was confirmed and the presence of hives of hybrid origin of A. m. scutellata × A. m. capensis (26%), not reported in Mexico before this investigation, was revealed. This seems to indicate that Africanized bees have conserved their mitochondrial DNA through the dispersion process.

RESUMEN La abeja africana (Apis mellifera scutellata) se introdujo del sur de África a Brasil en 1956 para inducir recombinaciones genéticas y generar segregantes adaptados a zonas tropicales; sin embargo, 26 colonias escaparon y con ello se inició un proceso de africanización en el continente americano. Se integró un apiario experimental mediante la recombinación de germoplasma europeo y africanizado con propósitos de mejoramiento genético, el cual se ha mantenido sin aplicación de acaricidas contra varroasis por más de 20 años. La población se generó mediante cruzamientos controlados de abejas europeas (Apis mellifera ligustica) que habían estado bajo mejoramiento genético por alrededor de 15 años (fuente de zánganos) con abejas africanizadas (A. m. scutellata con probable recombinación con diversas subespecies de abejas europeas) que habían estado sujetas a un proceso de selección para su semidomesticación y mejoramiento genético bajo criterios apícolas (fuente de abejas reinas). Con el objeto de tener información sobre el origen materno de la población, se realizó secuenciación de las regiones intergénicas COI-COII y ND5 del ADNmt en una muestra aleatoria de 19 colmenas. Se confirmó el origen materno africano de A. m. scutellata (74 %) y se reveló la presencia de colmenas de origen híbrido de A. m. scutellata × A. m. capensis (26 %), no reportado en México hasta antes de esta investigación. Los resultados parece indicar que las abejas africanizadas han conservado su ADN mitocondrial a través del proceso de dispersión.
