SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the risk factors of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in premature infants and the clinical application value of lung ultrasound in the diagnosis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia. METHODS: A total of 80 premature infants with a gestational age of <32 weeks or a birth weight of <1,500 g who were treated in our hospital from January to August 2021 were randomly divided into a bronchopulmonary dysplasia group (n=12) and a non-bronchopulmonary dysplasia group (n=62). The clinical data, lung ultrasound, and X-ray image characteristics of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: Among the 74 preterm infants, 12 preterm infants were diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and 62 preterm infants were determined not to have bronchopulmonary dysplasia. There were significant differences in sex, severe asphyxia, invasive mechanical ventilation, premature membrane ruptures, and intrauterine infection between the two groups (p<0.05). Lung ultrasound showed abnormal pleural lines and alveolar-interstitial syndrome in all 12 patients with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and vesicle inflatable signs in 3 patients. Before clinical diagnosis, the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of lung ultrasound in the diagnosis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia were 98.65, 100, 98.39, 92.31, and 100%, respectively. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of X-rays in the diagnosis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia were 85.14, 75.00, 87.10, 52.94, and 94.74%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The diagnostic efficiency of lung ultrasound for premature bronchopulmonary dysplasia is better than that of X-rays. The application of lung ultrasound can screen patients with bronchopulmonary dysplasia early for timely intervention.

Abstract Aiming to provide a new way that preserves more active components in Eucommia ulmoides (EU) leaves, this paper utilizes 4 methods, i.e., microwave, steam, air heating, and frying, to process EU leaves before drying, and their respective effects on the leaves were evaluated. The antioxidant activity of EU leaves in vitro was measured by the DPPH free radical method; the contents of total flavonoids (TFC) and total phenols (TPC) were analyzed by spectrophotometry; and the contents of main active components were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results showed the pre-process improved the quality of the EU leaves. As a simple and fast process, the microwave process is the most effective technique in the retention of flavonoids and four active ingredients except aucubin. High power (800 W) and short time (2.5 min) are more conducive to the retention of active ingredients, with high antioxidant activity. Appropriate steam and frying processes also exhibited benefits for the active components. In particular, the samples treated with steam for 10 minutes showed great potential for industrial application with the highest antioxidant activity and polyphenol content. Therefore, proper pre-processing before drying should be conducted to effectively protect the active components of EU leaves.

Abstract To study the effect of Jiawei Huangqi Guizhi Decoction on gastrointestinal hormones and TGF-β3 signal pathways in rats with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). The model was created by methylnitrosoguanidine (MNNG) comprehensive method. After successful modeling, it was divided into three groups: model group (MC group), frolic acid group (AC group), modified Huangqi Guizhi Decoction high dose group (HH group), modified Huangqi Guizhi Decoction middle dose group (HM group), and modified Huangqi Guizhi Decoction low dose group (HL group). Gastric pathology was observed by HE staining. The levels of gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MTL) in rat serum were detected by ELISA assay. After HE staining, the histopathological sections were analyzed. Inflammatory factors infiltration and disorder of mucosal epithelial cells were found in the model group, which were improved to some extent after administration. According to the pathological chart analysis and score of rats in each group, compared with the model group, the gastric tissue damage of rats in each administration group has been improved in different degrees, among which the pathological scores of HH and HM groups were lower, and the corresponding damage degree was smaller. According to the test results of ELISA, Jiawei Huangqi Guizhi Decoction could reduce the contents of GAS, TGF-β3, and increase MTL abundance in the serum of rats, thus accelerating the apoptosis of tumor cells and inhibiting cancer. Jiawei Huangqi Guizhi Decoction played a positive role in preventing the occurrence of gastric cancer through reducing the concentrations of GAS and TGF-β3 in serum, and increasing the concentration of MLT in serum. This results provided a new treatment idea for CAG.

Abstract Objective: To explore the effectiveness of oral motor intervention combined with non-nutritive sucking in treating premature infants with dysphagia. Methods: Sixty preterm infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the present study’s hospital were selected and randomly divided into the control and intervention groups. The control group was given non-nutritive sucking intervention alone, while the intervention group was given oral motor intervention combined with non-nutritive sucking. The oral motor ability, milk sucking amount and sucking rate, feeding efficiency and outcomes, and the occurrence of adverse reactions were measured and compared. Results: Compared to first-day interventions, preterm infant oral feeding readiness assessment scale-Chinese version (PIOFRAS-CV) scores of the two groups significantly increased after 14 days of intervention, and this score was higher in the intervention group compared to the control group. Similarly, after 14 days of intervention, the intervention group's milk sucking rate and amount were significantly higher than the control group. Also, after the intervention, the intervention group's total oral feeding weeks were considerably lower, while the feeding efficiency and body weight were significantly higher than the control group. Moreover, the overall adverse reaction rate in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group. Conclusions: Oral motor intervention combined with non-nutritive sucking can significantly improve the oral motor ability of premature newborns, promote the process of oral feeding, improve the outcome of oral feeding, and reduce the occurrence of adverse effects. The combined intervention seems to have a beneficial effect on oral feeding proficiency in preterm infants.

Abstract Clinically, methane is an anti-inflammatory gas used to treat organ damage. There is no extensive research on methane's repair of traumatic brain injury (TBI), so this study aims to investigate the role of methane and its potential mechanism. A rat TBI model was established by mechanical impact. SD rats were divided into four groups, including sham group, TBI group, 2 or 20 mL/kg methane-rich saline (MS) group. Morris water maze test revealed that MS improved cognitive function in TBI rats. HE and Nissl staining showed that MS reduced the blurring of brain tissues boundary, the number of necrotic plaques and neurons in TBI rats. In addition, ELISA revealed that MS restored the oxidative stress of TBI rats and reversed the inflammatory effect of TBI on brain cells, and TUNEL staining detected that MS inhibited cell apoptosis. Western blotting showed that MS downregulated Caspase-3 and Bax protein levels and upregulated Bcl-2 level. And MS inhibited phosphorylated expressions of Janus kinase 1 (JAK1), signal transducer and activator of the transcription (STAT1) and NF-κb-p65. In conclusion, MS improved cognitive function, reduced inflammatory response and oxidative stress and inhibited cell apoptosis to relieve rat TBI by blocking the activation of the JAK1/STAT1/NF-κb-p65 pathway.

Abstract Curcumin possesses various pharmacological properties such as antioxidation, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory, but performs unexpected physicochemical stability and bioavailability when directly incorporate it into food or medicine. In this work, we fabricated a nano-emulsion system for the delivery and protection of curcumin. A precise and theoretically understandable fabrication procedure of curcumin-loaded nano-emulsion was proposed via systematically evaluating the effect of oil type (medium-chain triglyceride oil (MCT) and canola oil), emulsifier type (Tween-80 and lecithin), and surfactant-to-oil ratios (SOR) on the physiochemical properties and stabilities. In terms of oil phase, nano-emulsion fabricated by using MCT exhibited the highest curcumin loading capacity, smallest particle size and best storage stability. Meanwhile, Tween-80 and higher SOR were suggested to prepare monodisperse uniform, physicochemical stable and high loading nano-emulsion. In vitro digestion study indicated that most of curcumin encapsulated within nano-emulsions were released in small intestine, and the increase of particle size of the emulsions could be caused by bile salts displacing some surfactant from lipid surface. This work will finally contribute to the optimization of the curcumin nano-emulsion with better physiochemical characteristics and stability in food and beverage products.

Abstract The effect of Maillard reaction browning factors on the color enhancement of membrane clarification non-centrifugal cane sugar (M-NCS) in storage was explored. During storage, the color of M-NCS gradually browned and blackened. pH, the contents of glucose, fructose, protein, total amino acids and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) decreased significantly. Meanwhile, the moisture content, relative percentages of volatile Maillard reaction products (MRPs) and the content of 3-deoxyglucosone (3-DG) increased during storage. The sucrose content remained stable. Correlation analysis shows all browning factors were significantly correlated with color. Multivariate data analysis results demonstrated that the compound effects of volatile MRPs, 3-DG, pH, glucose and total amino acids led to the color change of stored M-NCS. The order of effect on the color change of stored M-NCS was volatile MRPs > 3-DG > pH > glucose > total amino acids.

Abstract The cigar market is growing rapidly in China. However, insufficient aroma value and quality, as well as confused subject fragrance were found in cigar tobacco leaves (CTLs), which has greatly restricted the development of Chinese cigar. In this study, several new and effective additives, including coffee, cocoa, ginger, cumin, and rhodiola rosea, were screened out for facilitating the fermentation process. Significant improvements on the aroma and sensory quality of CTLs were detected. The above-mentioned additives can increase the contents of total sugar, alcohols, alkenes, ketonic and acid aroma components in tobacco leaves. Besides, the content of representative aroma component, such as neophytadiene, increased by 1~2 times. Moreover, abundant new aroma components were introduced into CTLs. As a result, the performances on aroma richness, aroma and smoke characteristics, as well as aftertaste and combustion of CTLs were enhanced. The findings provide a promising strategy for enhancing sensory quality of domestic CTLs and the flourishment of Chinese cigar.

Abstract Selenium is an essential trace element in the human diet and has anti-aging, anti-tumor, and immunity boosting effects. In this study, the effects of selenium on Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum L.) sprouts were investigated. A suitable concentration of selenium had no adverse effects on the growth of Tartary buckwheat seedlings. The soluble sugar, protein, total flavonoid, and total phenol concentrations in the selenium-treated sprouts were higher than those in the untreated control sprouts. Electronic tongue measurements indicated that the taste characteristics, especially the sweetness and umami, of the selenium-treated and untreated groups were significantly different. Sensory analysis showed that selenium-treated Tartary buckwheat sprouts had good acceptability. Selenium-enriched Tartary buckwheat sprouts are a promising product, both in terms of flavor and as a useful source of selenium to increase human dietary intake.

Resumo Fundamento: Estudos epidemiológicos recentes demonstraram que alterações na microbiota e seus metabólitos estão associadas à hipertensão arterial sistêmica. A Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) é um dos patógenos bacterianos mais comuns, e a possível associação entre a infecção por H. pylori e a hipertensão é controversa. Objetivos: Este estudo teve o objetivo de esclarecer a associação entre eles e proporcionar uma nova base teórica para detectar a patogênese da hipertensão. Métodos: Foram selecionados estudos caso-controle e transversais sobre a associação entre H. pylori e hipertensão, publicados de 1996 a 2019 indexados nos bancos de dados PubMed, Google Scholar, Chinese Wan Fang Data, e Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). As razões de chance (RC) combinadas e o intervalo de confiança (IC) 95% foram estimados. O I² foi realizado para avaliar a heterogeneidade estatística. O viés de publicação foi avaliado utilizando-se os testes de Beggs e de Egger. Os dados extraídos foram analisados no software Stata 12.0. A significância estatística foi definida com um p-valor < 0,05. Resultados: Foram cadastrados 17 estudos envolvendo 6376 casos de hipertensão e 10850 controles. A taxa de infecção por H. pylori em pacientes hipertensos e em controles foi de 64,9% e 56,3%, respectivamente. Foi demonstrada uma associação significativamente positiva entre a infecção por H. pylori e a hipertensão, com uma RC global de 2,07 (IC 95%: 1,46–2,94; p < 0,05). A análise de subgrupos revelou que a prevalência de infecção por H. pylori foi associada à hipertensão na região da Ásia e no grupo de caso-controle, as RC (IC 95%) foram 2,26 (1,51-3,38) e 2,53 (1,72-3,72), respectivamente. Depois de estratificar por métodos de detecção, ainda existiam diferenças entre os subgrupos (todos p < 0,05). Conclusão: Esta metanálise indicou que a infecção por H. pylori está associada positivamente à hipertensão.

Abstract Background: Recent epidemiological studies have shown that alterations in microbiota and its metabolites are associated with systemic arterial hypertension. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most common bacterial pathogens, and the potential association between H. pylori infection and hypertension are controversial. Objective: This study aimed to clarify their association and provide a new theoretical basis for uncovering the pathogenesis of hypertension. Methods: Case-control and cross-sectional studies on the association between H. pylori and hypertension published from 1996 to 2019 indexed in PubMed, Google Scholar, Chinese Wan Fang Data, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The pooled odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated. I2 was performed to evaluate the statistical heterogeneity. Publication bias was evaluated using Begg’s and Egger’s test. The extracted data was analyzed in Stata 12.0. Statistical significance was defined as p-value < 0.05. Results: A total of 17 studies involving 6,376 cases of hypertension and 10,850 controls were enrolled. H. pylori infection rate in hypertension patients and controls were 64.9% and 56.3%, respectively. A significantly positive association was shown between H. pylori infection and hypertension with an overall OR of 2.07 (95% CI: 1.46–2.94; p < 0.05). Subgroup analysis revealed that the prevalence of H. pylori infection was associated with hypertension in the region of Asia and the case-control group, ORs (95% CI) were 2.26 (1.51-3.38) and 2.53 (1.72-3.72), respectively. After stratifying by detection methods, differences still existed in subgroups (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: This meta-analysis indicated that H. pylori infection is positively associated with hypertension.

ABSTRACT Agricultural measures for cotton (Gossypium spp.) cultivation generally adopt a traditional and uniform management method in the reclamation area of the abandoned salt pan on the southern coast of Laizhou Bay, without considering spatial variability of the soil’s physical environment. This method might lead to overfertilization in some high-nutrient plots and poor fertilization in other low-nutrient plots, which will cause high heterogeneity of crop yields and low profits. The objectives of this study were to delineate and to assess the suitability of the resulting site-specific management zones by describing spatial variability in soil attributes and crop yields. A 4.8 ha field of reclamation area in the coast was selected as the research object. A total of 12 soil attributes representing the physio-chemical attributes of soil (0-20 cm) and aboveground biomass (AGB) of cotton on 48 sampling locations were chosen from the study area. Principal component analysis and the fuzzy k-means clustering method were used to determine optimal clustering number of the study area and identify management zones. Results showed that the number of reasonable management zones were two, and confidence levels of soil organic matter (SOM) and AGB were significantly different at a probability level p < 0.01, while total N, available N, available K, cation exchange capacity, and soil salinity showed significant differences at p < 0.05. Management zones determined based on the selected soil attributes and crop AGB provide farmers with the opportunity to perform specific site management in cotton fields to achieve precision agriculture and provide a reference for formulation of a reclamation strategy for the salt pan.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE To explore the values of automated breast volume scanning (ABVS) combined with shear wave elastography (SWE) in the differential diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2–positive breast cancers (HER2+BC). METHODS In this study, 28 patients with TNBC and 32 patients with HER2+BC were enrolled. The characteristics of ABVS and virtual touch quantification (VTQ) in SWE of all patients were reviewed. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was carried out and the receiver operating characteristic curves of ABVS and ABVS+VTQ were drawn. RESULTS In ABVS imaging, the microcalcification, posterior echo, internal echo, shape, and edge had significant difference between TNBC and HER2+BC groups (p<0.05). The regular shape was the independent factor for TNBC (p=0.04, odds ratio [OR]=4.479), and the microcalcification in mass was the independent factor for HER2+BC (p=0.01, OR=2.997). In VTQ imaging, the shear wave velocity (SWV)max, SWVmin, and SWVmean in TNBC group were significantly lower than those in HER2+BC group (p<0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of ABVS+VTQ in diagnosing TNBC were higher than those of ABVS alone. CONCLUSIONS ABVS combined with SWE has certain advantages in differentiating TNBC from HER2+BC, which is helpful for the treatment planning and prognosis judgment.

Abstract We report the first case of using an anterior scalene plane block at the superior trunk level achieving phrenic nerve blockade to treat intolerable referred shoulder pain after liver Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of a diaphragm-abutting liver tumor despite prevention with a full-dose non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The anterior scalene plane block rapidly alleviated pain without significant complications.

RESUMEN La mayor parte de la minería del carbón en China es subterránea, lo que inevitablemente causa deformaciones en la superficie y desencadena desastres geológicos. Por lo tanto, es necesario encontrar un método adecuado para pronosticar el hundimiento del suelo causado por la minería subterránea. El modelo de predicción más utilizado en China es el modelo integral de probabilidad (PIM). Pero cuando este modelo se utiliza en la condición geológica de la minería bajo capas gruesas inetables, el borde previsto de la cuenca de hundimiento converge más rápido que la situación de hundimiento medida. Para resolver este problema, en este artículo se estableció un modelo geométrico (GM) que tiene una forma de modelo similar a la del PIM pero que tiene un valor límite mayor. En este trabajo se propuso un algoritmo de búsqueda de cuco mejorado (ICSA) para calcular los parámetros de GM, y se verificó la estabilidad y confiabilidad del ICSA a través de una frente de trabajo simulado. Por último, el ICSA en combinación con el GM y el PIM se utilizaron para ajustar 6 caras de trabajo con la condición de minería geológica de capas gruesas sueltas en el área minera de Huainan. Los resultados demuestran que el GM puede resolver el problema de PIM mencionado anteriormente cuando se utiliza en las condiciones de minería geológica de capas gruesas inestables. Y se obtuvo mediante análisis comparativo que los parámetros del GM y del PIM pueden tomar el mismo valor excepto por el radio de influencia principal.

ABSTRACT Most of the coal mining in China is underground, which will inevitably cause surface deformation and trigger a series of geological disasters. Therefore, it is essential to find a suitable method to forecast the ground sinking caused by underground mining. The most commonly used prediction model in China is the probability integral model (PIM). But when this model is used in the geological condition of mining under thick loose layers, the predicted edge of the sinking basin will converge faster than the actual measured sinking situation. A geometric model (GM) with a similar model shape as the PIM but with a larger boundary value was established in this paper to solve this problem. Then an improved cuckoo search algorithm (ICSA) was proposed in this paper to calculate the GM parameters. The stability and reliability of the ICSA were verified through a simulated working face. At last, the ICSA, in combination with the GM and the PIM, was used to fit 6 working faces with the geological mining condition of thick loose layers in the Huainan mining area. The results prove that GM can solve the above-mentioned PIM problem when it is used in geological mining conditions of thick loose layers. And it was obtained through comparative analysis that the GM and the PIM parameters can take the same value except for the main influence radius.

OBJECTIVES: This study explored the clinical efficacy of VitalStim electrical stimulation combined with swallowing function training for patients with dysphagia following an acute stroke. METHODS: Seventy-two patients with dysphagia following an acute stroke were admitted to our hospital and were further divided into two groups using prospective research methods. There were 36 cases in each group according to the random number table method. The control group received conventional medical treatment and swallowing function training while the experimental group received conventional medical treatment and VitalStim electrical stimulation combined with swallowing function training. RESULTS: The overall response rate of the experimental group (94.44%) was higher than that of the control group (77.78%), and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the upward and forward movement speeds of the hyoid bone, anterior movement speed, the grading score of the Kubota drinking water test, Caiteng’s grading score, serum superoxide dismutase, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and norepinephrine levels, Fugl-Meyer Assessment score, and multiple quality of life scores of the two groups showed improvement after treatment. While the standard swallowing assessment score, serum malondialdehyde level, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score decreased, the aforementioned indices showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that VitalStim electrical stimulation combined with swallowing function is effective for treating dysphagia following an acute stroke. It can effectively improve swallowing, neurological, and limb motor functions, reduce complications, promote physical recovery, and improve overall quality of life of patients.
