RESUMO A doença por coronavírus (COVID-19) é uma emergência de saúde pública de caráter internacional. As estratégias para controlar a propagação do vírus alteraram o comportamento diário das pessoas em todo o mundo, incluindo pessoas com diagnóstico de doença mental grave. Em Portugal, os serviços de saúde mental sofreram adaptações, vários serviços ambulatórios e hospitais de dia para pacientes psiquiátricos foram encerrados. Adicionalmente, programas de intervenção na comunidade para esta população foram, também, afetados. O projeto de investigação-intervenção Saúde Mental em Movimento é um exemplo específico de como a COVID-19 afetou as intervenções de atividade física e de saúde mental. Este documento pretende descrever como a COVID-19 alterou a dinâmica do projeto, principalmente durante as sessões de exercício físico e atividades de investigação, descrevendo as estratégias adotadas neste momento difícil. Estas informações constituem uma mais-valia para outras equipas de investigação que também tiveram que se adaptar e incluir novas metodologias clínicas e científicas para manter o propósito do projeto, tendo em consideração as normas e recomendações de saúde.

ABSTRACT Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a public health emergency of international concern. Strategies to manage this pandemic have changed the daily routines of people worldwide, including people with a diagnosis of severe mental disorders. In Portugal, mental health services had to adjust several ambulatory facilities for psychiatry patients, as well as closing the acute day hospitals. Additionally, community-based programs for the Portuguese population were also affected. Mental Health on the MOVE research project is a specific look into how COVID-19 affected physical activity and mental health interventions. This document aims to report how COVID-19 changed the project dynamic, mainly during the exercise sessions and research activities, describing the strategies adopted during this difficult time. This information could be helpful for other research teams that also had to adapt and challenge themselves with clinical and scientific methodologies to follow the project purpose, taking into consideration government rules and health standards.

The evaluation of swimming technique is one of the main aspects to be considered in any training program, with biomechanics being an important source of knowledge. It was our objective to characterize the biomechanical parameters (SL and SF) relating them to the swimming velocity (v) at different intensities and to analyze within each swimming stroke cycle the intra-cyclic velocity variation (IVV) in a group of motor disabled swimmers. Eight disabled male swimmers (25.83 ± 2.93 years old, 72.45 ± 9.26 kg body mass and 1.79 ± 0.11 m of height) of the following functional classes: S6 (n = 1), S8 (n = 2) and S9 (n = 5) participated in this study. Swimmers were evaluated in the kinematic parameters v, stroke frequency (SF) and stroke length (SL) along with an incremental protocol of 6 x 200 m in the the crawl stroke. Data were registered in each step at the distances of 100 and 175 m. With increasing velocity, the mean values of SL decreased while the mean values of SF increased. To achieve higher swimming velocities, swimmers compensated the lack of the propulsive segment increasing SF to increase swimming speed. For the mean values of IVV at 100m distance, a decrease between the first and second levels, followed by a tendency to stabilize from the 2nd to the 6th level is presented. For the 175 m distance, there was a decrease in IVV with an increase in swimming velocity. Stroke frequency is directly related to the magnitude of IVV, which directly influences swimming performance.

CONTEXTO: La esquizofrenia es una enfermedad grave y debilitante. Sumado a ello, gran parte de la población presenta un estilo de vida poco saludable, que incluye niveles insuficientes de actividad física diaria. Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la eficacia de un programa de actividad física (AF) de 24 semanas en la capacidad funcional para el ejercicio y en el nivel de AF de personas con esquizofrenia. MÉTODOS: Nueve personas (cinco hombres e cuatro mujeres) con diagnóstico de esquizofrenia participaron durante 24 semanas en un programa de AF. El programa contempló dos sesiones por semana, con una duración de 60 minutos / sesión. Las evaluaciones ocurrieron al principio (M0), después de 12 semanas (M1) y 24 semanas (M2). La capacidad funcional y el nivel de AF fueron evaluados a través del prueba de caminata de 6 minutos y el Cuestionario Internacional de la Actividad Física - versión corta, respectivamente. RESULTADOS: Se observaron mejoras significativas en la capacidad funcional para el ejercicio. Aunque no se observaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas, se observó un aumento en el nivel de AF y reducción en los valores de la circunferencia de la cintura y de la cadera entre M0 y M2. CONCLUSIONES: Los resultados sugieren que el programa de AF puede promover un estilo de vida saludable en las personas con esquizofrenia.

CONTEXTO: A esquizofrenia é uma doença grave e debilitante. Somado a isso, a maioria das pessoas com esquizofrenia apresenta um estilo de vida pouco saudável, que inclui níveis insuficientes de atividade física diária. OBJETIVO: O propósito do presente estudo foi avaliar a eficácia de um programa de Atividade Física (AF) de 24 semanas na capacidade funcional para o exercício e no nível de AF de pessoas com esquizofrenia. MÉTODOS: Nove pessoas (cinco homens e quatro mulheres) com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia participaram durante 24 semanas num programa de AF. O programa contemplou duas sessões por semana, com a duração de 60 minutos/sessão. As avaliações ocorreram no início (M0), após 12 semanas (M1) e 24 semanas (M2). A capacidade funcional e o nível de AF foram avaliados através do Teste de caminhada de 6 minutos e do Questionário Internacional de AF, versão curta, respetivamente. RESULTADOS: Verificaram-se melhorias significativas na capacidade funcional para o exercício. Apesar da ausência de significância estatística, observou-se um aumento no nível de AF e redução nos valores da circunferência da cintura e da anca entre M0 e M2. CONCLUSÕES: Os resultados sugerem que o programa de AF pode promover um estilo de vida saudável nas pessoas com esquizofrenia.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a most debilitating disease. In addition, much of this people had an unhealthy lifestyle, which includes insufficient daily physical activity levels. AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a 24-week physical activity (PA) program in functional exercise capacity and level of PA in people with schizophrenia. METHODS: Nine persons (five men and four women) with diagnose of schizophrenia participated for 24 weeks in a PA program. The program occurred twice a week, with 60 minutes per session. The evaluations occurred at baseline (M0), after 12 weeks (M1) and 24 weeks (M2). The functional capacity and the level of PA were evaluated through the 6-minute Walk Test and the InternationalPhysical Activity Questionnaire - Short Form,respectively. RESULTS: There were significant improvements in functional exercise capacity. Although there were no significant statistically differences, there was an increase in the level of PA and a reduction in waist and hip circumferences between M0 and M2. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the PA program can promote a healthy lifestyle in people with schizophrenia.

Objectives: To assess quality of life (QoL) and physical activity (PA) levels of outpatients with schizophrenia and healthy controls matched for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), hip circumference, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio. Additionally, the present study investigated associations between PA levels, QoL, and anthropometric and behavioral measures among outpatients with schizophrenia. Methods: Thirty-two outpatients with schizophrenia and 32 individuals without mental illness were included in the study. QoL and PA levels were assessed by the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument - Abbreviated version (WHOQOL-Bref) and by GT3X triaxial accelerometers, respectively. Results: Outpatients with schizophrenia had poorer QoL and lower vigorous PA levels compared with healthy controls (p < 0.05). The group with schizophrenia showed a significant association between higher weight and lower scores in the mental health domain of the WHOQOL-Bref. A higher BMI was also significantly associated with lower scores in the physical health domain of the WHOQOL-Bref. Schizophrenic patients with smoking behaviors were associated with fewer steps per day and with less moderate to vigorous PA. Conclusions: This study seeks to shed some light upon the lifestyle of patients with schizophrenia. New psychosocial approaches should focus on PA, weight, and smoking management, thereby helping these patients to improve their QoL.

RESUMO: crianças com transtorno do espectro do autismo (TEA) apresentam um desempenho motor inferior às crianças em geral. Com este estudo pretende-se avaliar a eficácia de um programa de treino de trampolins, com a duração de 20 semanas, na proficiência motora e índice de massa corporal (IMC) de crianças com TEA. Participaram um total de 17 crianças (entre os 4 e os 10 anos de idade) com diagnóstico de TEA, que foram distribuídas por dois grupos: grupo experimental (n=6), e controlo (n=11). O grupo experimental foi submetido a uma sessão de treino de trampolins por semana com uma duração de 45 minutos. O grupo de controlo compreende crianças cuja atividade física foi limitada ao currículo obrigatório. A proficiência motora foi avaliada através da bateria de testes Bruininks - Oseretsky. O IMC foi calculado recorrendo à fórmula internacionalmente referenciada. Para análise de variância de medidas repetidas (ANOVA). Ambos os grupos apresentaram características idênticas na avaliação inicial. No que se refere à proficiência motora foram evidentes e significativas as melhorias no GE após o programa de trampolins de 20 semanas (p<0.001). No grupo de controlo embora se tenham observado melhorias significativas estas não apresentaram significado estatístico (p>0.05). Relativamente ao IMC não se registraram alterações significativas em ambos os grupos com a realização do programa de trampolins (p>0.05). Em face deste quadro de resultados é possível concluir que a participação em um programa de trampolins com a duração de 20 semanas contribuiu para melhorar significativamente a proficiência motora de crianças com TEA.

ABSTRACT: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have a lower motor performance in comparison to children in general. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a trampoline training program, which lasts 20 weeks, the motor proficiency and body mass index (BMI) of children with ASD. The study included a total of 17 children with ASD aged between 4 and 10 years old, 6 children on trampolines training - experimental group (EG), and the remaining 11 in the control group (CG). Experimental group underwent trampoline training sessions for a week, for 45 minutes. Control Group was limited to the compulsory curriculum. The motor proficiency was assessed by the motor proficiency test Bruininks - Oseretsky. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated using the formula referenced internationally. The analysis of variance for repeated measures (ANOVA) was used for data analysis. Both groups had similar characteristics at initial assessment. Regarding motor skill, improvements were evident and significant in CG after the 20-week trampolines program (p <0.001). In the control group, although there significant improvements were observed, they did not show statistical significance (p> 0.05). Regarding BMI, no significant changes were observed in both groups after the completion of trampolines program (p> 0.05). With the results, it is possible to conclude that participation in a trampolines program for 20 weeks contributed to significantly improve motor proficiency of children with ASD.

<p>A prática regular de atividade física influencia a saúde e o bem-estar, com papel importante na prevenção de várias doenças crônicas, como doenças cardiovasculares, acidente vascular cerebral, hipertensão, obesidade, diabetes, osteoporose, dentre outras. As vantagens da prática de exercício físico por pessoas com deficiências de desenvolvimento, especificamente de pessoas com transtorno do espetro do autismo (TEA), têm sido estudadas, mas dados as diferentes metodologias e abordagens presentes na literatura, há necessidade de fazer uma compilação das diferentes investigações existentes que permitam concluir quais os efeitos de diferentes tipos de exercício em pessoas com TEA. O objetivo deste artigo é reunir os principais estudos que foram realizados nos últimos anos no âmbito da atividade física em indivíduos com (TEA) e retirar as conclusões acerca dos mesmos. São apresentados 18 estudos, num total de 140 crianças e adultos com várias variantes desta síndrome e que participaram em atividades individualmente ou em grupo. Foram realizadas diversas atividades tais como jogos, natação, corrida, passeios terapêuticos, hidroginástica. As intervenções pretenderam estudar a influência das atividades propostas no comportamento agressivo e estereotipado, funcionamento social, resistência, qualidade de vida e stress, aptidão física e resistência. Os programas de intervenção revelaram melhorias significativas, mostrando as potencialidades do exercício em pessoas com TEA.</p>

<p>Regular physical activity influences health and well-being, with an important role in the prevention of several chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis. The advantages of physical exercise for people with developmental disabilities, specifically people with autism-spectrum disorder (ASD) have been studied, but given the different methodologies and approaches in the literature, there is the need to make a compilation of the different existing research that might allow us to conclude which are the effects of the different types of exercise in people with ASD. The purpose of this article is to bring together the main studies that have been conducted in the latest years in the context of physical activity in individuals with ASD and draw conclusions about them. Eighteen studies are presented, with a total of 140 children and adults with various variants of this syndrome, who participated in individual activities or in groups. Various activities, such as games, swimming, jogging, therapeutic walks, aerobics were performed. Interventions intended to study the influence of the activities proposed in aggressive and stereotyped behavior, social functioning, strength, quality of life and stress, physical fitness and endurance. Intervention programs revealed significant improvement, showing the benefits of exercise for people with ASD.</p>

In this research, which was financed by several institutions, we have designed an instrument that allows us to know the perception that university students of Physical Education have of people with Down syndrome. We have called this instrument the scale of Social Perception of people with Down syndrome EPSD-1, and in its design important psychosocial variables are recognized, whilst trying to discuss its properties in order to apply it to other contexts. Based on an analysis of factors, we offer ten main factors that deal with issues such as the social exclusion of people with Down syndrome, their autonomy and independence, their affective-sexual relations, their social and educational acceptance, their integration, their family attitudes, teacher education, and the social protectionism of these people. The initial sample is composed of 1.796 participants, and the results indicate that the scale devised here is a reliable and valid instrument in its application. This scale can be of great value for the Social Sciences, offering a latent relation with respect to the initial education which, since the university, is offered to students of higher education. Using a quantitative methodology, the results show that the psychometric properties of the scale are highly satisfactory, prompting us to suggest the conduction of new longitudinal and transversal studies using it to different populations with the purpose of furthering our knowledge of the social perception of people with Down syndrome, and of bringing out new facts about the tendency and evolution of these theme during the last years.

En esta investigación, financiada por varias entidades, hemos diseñado un instrumento que permite conocer la percepción que tienen los estudiantes universitarios de Educación Física sobre las personas con síndrome de Down. Al instrumento lo hemos denominado escala de Pecepción Social hacia las personas con síndrome de Down EPSD-1, y en su diseño se recogen importantes variables psicosociales, al tiempo que se busca dar cuenta de sus propiedades para aplicarla a otros contextos. Tras un análisis factorial, ofrecemos diez grandes factores que abordan temas como la exclusión social de las personas con síndrome de Down, su autonomía e independencia, sus relaciones afectivo-sexuales, su aceptación social y educativa, su integración, la actitud familiar, la formación docente y el proteccionismo social hacia estas personas. La muestra inicial la componen 1.796 participantes y los resultados indican que se trata de un instrumento fiable y válido para su aplicación. Esta escala resulta de gran utilidad en el ámbito de las Ciencias Sociales, ofreciendo una relación latente con respecto a la formación inicial que, desde la universidad, se ofrece a los estudiantes universitarios. Mediante una metodología cuantitativa, los resultados muestran que sus propiedades psicométricas son altamente satisfactorias, motivo por el cual sugerimos realizar nuevos estudios longitudinales y transversales a partir de su uso aplicado a diferentes poblaciones, con objeto de profundizar sobre la percepción social hacia las personas con síndrome de Down, aportando datos sobre la tendencia y evolución al respecto en los últimos años.

O desafio de tentar romper barreiras, através do desporto para pessoas com deficiência, é sempre uma forma de criar novas propostas no âmbito do ensino e da pesquisa com essa população. Desta forma, se considerarmos que vivemos numa sociedade onde grande parte das informações que nos chegam são feitas através da visão, entendemos ser importante abordar uma modalidade desportiva como o Goalball, uma vez que a mesma tem sido pouco estudada e também devido ao crescente desenvolvimento da modalidade em vários países. Assim, é propósito de nosso estudo fazer uma revisão acerca da modalidade Goalball, por se tratar de um Desporto Paralímpico e porque possui determinadas particularidades dos Jogos Desportivos Colectivos (JDC) em relação aos aspectos técnico-tácticos e aos sistemas ofensivos/defensivos. Uma modalidade tem que ser conhecida nas suas várias vertentes estruturais, nomeadamente conhecer as estratégias utilizadas pelos indivíduos cegos e deficientes visuais na prática da modalidade.

The challenge of overcoming difficulties, namely through sport for disabled people, is always a way of bringing up new proposals concerning teaching and researching having in mind this kind of population. Therefore, and taking in consideration that a significant amount of information in nowadays’ society runs through sight, we find of major importance to approach such a sport as Goalball, as has been scarcely researched and also due to its increasing development around several countries. Hence, it is our aim to accomplish a research about Goalball, not only because is a Para Olympic Sport but also because contains certain features of Collective Sporting Games (CSG) concerning technical and tactical particularities and offensive/defensive systems. A sport should be known within its several structural features, namely the strategies which can be adopted by blind and visually impaired when practicing.

A presente investigação analisou as relações entre a prática desportiva de estudantes universitários e o modo como estes se percepcionavam a si próprios e às suas vidas. Participaram nesta investigação 2284 estudantes de ambos os sexos, com idades entre os 18 e os 30 anos (M = 21,87 ±2,37), que preencheram um questionário sobre a sua prática desportiva, bem como versões portuguesas do Physical Self-Perception Profile (Fox & Corbin, 1989), da Subjective Happiness Scale (Lyubomirsky & Lepper, 1999), da Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985) e da Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988). Em geral, a análise dos resultados revelou que os indivíduos que possuíam mais confiança física e que avaliavam a sua vida mais positivamente praticavam desporto mais regularmente; porém, verificou-se igualmente que quem se percebia menos forte fisicamente e tinha uma auto-estima mais baixa também praticava desporto mais regularmente do que os pares.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between university students' sport practice and the way they perceived themselves and their lives. Participated in this investigation 2284 male and female students, with ages between 18 and 30 years (M = 21.87 ±2.37), who filled out a questionnaire to assess their levels of sport practice, as well the Portuguese versions of the Physical Self-Perception Profile (Fox & Corbin, 1989), the Subjective Happiness Scale (Lyubomirsky & Lepper, 1999), the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988). Overall, the analysis of the results showed that students who were more physically confident and evaluated their lives more positively did sport more regularly; however, results also showed that students who reported lower levels of physical strength and self-esteem practiced sport more regularly than their peers.

Embora as vantagens associadas à prática desportiva por pessoas de todas as idades sejam hoje perfeitamente evidentes, vários estudos realizados com populações universitárias têm destacado o seu elevado sedentarismo, razão pela qual se justifica investigar as determinantes da sua actividade desportiva. Reconhecendo a importância assumida neste domínio pelas dimensões social, cognitiva e afectiva, este estudo procurou analisar a prática desportiva de estudantes universitários, relacionando-a com variáveis intrapessoais (e.g., sexo, idade) e interpessoais (e.g., hábitos desportivos de familiares e amigos). Participaram 2284 estudantes dos dois sexos, com idades entre os 18 e os 30 anos (M=21.87±2.37), que preencheram um questionário sobre a sua prática desportiva e a dos seus familiares e amigos. A análise dos resultados evidenciou que os estudantes: i) preferiam actividades de fitness, natação e futebol, bem como actividades menos tradicionais (e.g., capoeira); ii) praticavam maioritariamente desporto recreativo, ao longo de todo o ano, em associações/ academias/ ginásios; iii) os homens eram mais activos; iv) maioritariamente preferiam praticar desporto acompanhados, o que convergia com as correlações positivas encontradas entre a regularidade da sua prática e a dos seus amigos e familiares. Daqui resulta, portanto, a importância de adequar a oferta desportiva às preferências dos estudantes, não só em termos de modalidades e espaços, mas também considerando o papel dos outros significativos.

Despite the clear benefits associated to sport practice to people of all ages, some studies with university students have shown high prevalence of sedentary habits, reason why it is important to investigate the determinants of their sport participation. Considering the importance in this domain of social, cognitive and affective dimensions, this study analysed sport practice of university students in relation with intrapersonal (e.g., sex, age) and interpersonal (e.g. relatives and friends sport habits) variables. Participated in this investigation 2284 male and female students, aged between 18 and 30 years (M=21.87±2.37), who filled out a questionnaire to assess their levels of sport practice, as well as their relatives and friends sport habits. Overall, results showed the students: i) preferred to practice fitness, swimming and soccer, as well as traditional activities (e.g., capoeira); ii) preferred to practice sport recreationally, all year long, in associations/ academies/ gymnasia; iii) men were more active; iv) preferred to practice sport in group, which is consistent with the positive correlations found between the students’ regular sport practice and their relatives’ and friends’ sport habits. Therefore, these results suggest the importance of matching the sport offer to the preferences of students, not only in relation to activities and places, but also considering the role of significant others.

Este estudo teve como principal objectivo examinar a relação entre o grau de função motora real de crianças com Paralisia Cerebral, com idades entre os 4 e 9 anos, e a percepção de competência física percebida das mesmas e de seus pais relativamente a elas. Foram utilizadas as versões portuguesas da DutchPictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance for children with Cerebral Palsy - EPPCASCPPp - a 81 crianças e seus pais, e da Gross Motor Function Measure (versão de 66 itens) - TMFM-66 - às crianças. Da aplicação do TMFM-66 resultou a divisão das crianças em três grupos de diferente comprometimento motor. A análise dos valores médios relativos à EPPCASCPCp (subescala de competência física), atribuídos pelas crianças e seus pais, permitiu constatar que, de uma forma geral, independentemente do seu comprometimento motor, aquelas apresentavam valores de percepção de competência elevados. Verificou-se também que a avaliação que as crianças faziam da sua competência física fora sempre superior à atribuída pelos seus pais, e que os valores médios de competência física percepcionados por ambos, decresciam à medida que aumentava o grau de comprometimento motor avaliado pela TMFM-66. As correlações entre a função motora e a competência física percebida foram moderadas sendo superiores no caso da avaliação por parte dos pais (r=0,621) comparativamente à percepção manifestada pelas crianças (r=0,503). Estes resultados sugerem a adequação da utilização da EPPCASCPCp, como indicador indirecto para avaliação de função motora em crianças com paralisia cerebral.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the actual motor function level of children with cerebral palsy, aged between 4 and 9 years old, their physical self-perceived competence and their parents’ when compared to them. The Portuguese version of the Dutch Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance for children with Cerebral Palsy - EPPCASCPPp - was used in 81 children and their parents, and the Portuguese version of the Gross Motor Function Measure (66 items version) - TMFM-66 - was used only for the children. Three different groups of motor impairment were defined by using the TMFM-66 aplication. The EPPCASCPCp (physical competence subscale) scores of the children and their parents showed that in general and independently of their motor impairment, those children presented high perceived competence levels. We also found that the children’s physical competence evaluation was always higher when comparing to that of their parents, and concomitantly, the average physical competence scores perceived by both decreased as the level of motor impairment assessed by TMFM-66 increased. The correlations between motor function and physical perceived competence were moderate, but higher when comparing the parents evaluation (r=0,621) to the children’s perceptions (r=0,503). These findings suggest that the EPPCASCPCp is adequate as an indirect pointer of motor function evaluation in cerebral palsy children.

O principal objectivo deste estudo consistiu na determinação das propriedades psicométricas da versão portuguesa da Dutch Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance in Children with Cerebral Palsy. Participaram neste estudo 108 crianças (60 rapazes e 48 raparigas) com paralisia cerebral, com idades entre os 4 e os 9 anos, distribuídas em hemiplegicas, diplégicas e tetraplégicas e com um QI igual ou superior a 70. A maioria (n=98) frequentava o ensino regular, enquanto apenas 10 frequentavam escolas especiais. O instrumento foi aplicado num segundo momento a 41 das crianças, com um intervalo máximo de duas semanas. Os resultados da correlação de Pearson relativamente aos dois momentos (entre 0.80 e 0.98) bem como o valor do alfa de Cronbach (entre 0.69 e 0.93) evidenciam uma boa fiabilidade da versão portuguesa. Também os valores das inter-correlações entre as quatro subescalas (r=0.60 ou superior) bem como os valores médios das respostas das crianças em função de diferentes características (idade, sexo, condição médica) para as diferentes subescalas apoiam a validade interna do instrumento. Em suma, os resultados do nosso estudo, na sua globalidade, parecem confirmar as propriedades psicométricas da versão portuguesa da Dutch Pictorial Scale, pelo que esta parece constituir-se como um instrumento fiável e válido para a avaliação do modo como as crianças portuguesas com Paralisia Cerebral se percebem no domínio cognitivo, físico e social.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Dutch Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance in Children with Cerebral Palsy. The sample was made up of 108 children (60 boys and 48 girls) with cerebral palsy, aged between 4 and 9 years, who suffered hemiplegia, diplegia or quadriplegia and had an IQ of 70 or higher. Most of the children (n=98) attended regular schools (integrated in kindergarten or primary school); indeed, only 10 children attended special schools for children with special needs. A sub-sample of 41 children filled out the scale in two different moments, separated one to two weeks maximum. The results of Pearson correlations between the two administrations (ranging 0.80 to 0.98) and the Cronbach's alpha (ranging 0.69 to 0.93) showed good reliability of the Portuguese version of the Dutch Pictorial Scale. Moreover, the inter-correlations between the four subscales (r=0.60 or higher) as well the mean scores associated by children with different characteristics (age, sex, medical condition) to the different subscales supported the internal validity of the instrument. Therefore, this study provides initial evidence about the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Dutch Pictorial Scale, which is why its use is recommended to assess the perceived competence and social acceptance of Portuguese children with cerebral palsy.
