The aim of this work was to explore the possibility of the application of a non-ionic resin obtained by impregnation of Alizarin Red S (VAS) in Amberlite XAD-7 for manganese, copper and zinc separation and preconcentration in saline matrices. For these system, the metals were quantitatively retained, in the pH range 8.5-10.0, by using 0.50 g of solid phase, stirring time of five minutes and a total mass up to 200 mug of each cation. The sorbed elements were subsequently eluted and a fifty-fold, ten-fold and ten-fold preconcentration factor for to Zn, Cu and Mn were obtained, respectively.

Pelo uso de técnicas mais baratas, como a do SDDC, é possível determinar níveis traços de arsênio em cabelo; entretanto esta técnica apresenta alguns inconvenientes como baixa estabilidade e o odor desagradável da piridina. A piridina foi substituída por trietanolamina/CHCl3 e as características analíticas do complexo foram estudadas. O complexo foi estável por 270 minutos, a faixa de aplicação da lei de Beer foi de 0,0 a 25,0 mig As, a repetibilidade foi de 0,028 mig As, o limite de detecção foi de 18,6 mig de As/L e a sensibilidade (épsilon)? de 1,12 10(4) L.mol-1.cm-1. O método foi aplicado à amostras de cabelo. A lavagem das amostras foi feita com extran e água desionizada e seca em estufa (40-60ºC). 0,1000 g de amostra foi submetida à 11 métodos de digestão. O melhor método foi o que usou uma solução 1:1 de HNO3 e H2SO4 concentrados em temperatura de 100-110ºC com evaporação até fumos de SO3. O tempo de abertura é um inconveniente neste tipo de digestão.

The silver diethyldithiocarbamate (SDDC) method, has been employed for the determination of arsenic in different materials. The disagreeable odor of the pyridine, the lower stability and reproducibility of the complex are justifications for many works related to the alternatives of the method. The SDDC/pyridine system was substituted for system using triethanolamine 5% v/v in chloroform with many advantages. The method was used for arsenic determination in hair samples with good recovery. Many kinds of digestions was studied.

The present work proposes the application of the 4-Hidroxy-3-(2-hydroxynaphtylazo)-benzenesulphonic acid (C.I. 15670), Alizarine Violet N (AVN), as a reagent for direct aluminium determination using molecular absorption spectrophotometry in the presence of tensoatives. Al(III) cation reacts with AVN in pH 9.4, forming a red complex, stable for at least 24 hours, with absorption minimum at 607nm and, against a reagent blank, (epsiloncomplex - epsilonreagent) = -2.71x10(4) L.mol-1.cm-1. The reaction occurs in the presence of a Triton-X100 and CTAB tensoatives mixture, in the presence of EDTA. Al(III) determination is possible in the linear range of 50 up to 400ng.mL-1, with a detection limit of 41 ng.mL-1.

A simple and low cost flow cell is proposed for measurements by solid-phase spectrophotometry employing a conventional spectrophotometer. The flow cell geometry allows the employment of a large amount of the solid support without causing both excessive attenuation of the radiation beam and increasing of the back-pressure. The adaptation of the flow cell in the optical path of the spectrophotometer in order to increase the precision is discussed. The flow cell characteristics were demonstrated by measurements of Co(II), employing 1-(2-tiazolylazo)-2-naphthol (TAN) immobilized on C18 bonded silica as solid support. The apparent molar absorptivity and coefficient of variation were estimated as 1.86 x 10(5) L mol-1 cm-1 and 1.4 % (n=15). A sample throughput of 40 determinations per hour and a detection limit of 15 mug L-1 (99.7 % confidence level) were achieved.

No presente trabalho apresenta-se um método seletivo e sensível para rápida determinação de urânio usando o 2-(2-Tiazolilazo)-p-Cresol (TAC). O TAC reage com o urânio(VI) em pH 6,5 formando um complexo estável por pelo menos 3 h. Brometo de N-cetil-N,N,N-trimetil amônio (CTAB) e triton X-100 foram usados para aumento da sensibilidade e solubilidade do sistema respectivamente. O método permite a determinação de urânio na faixa de 0,30 a 12,0 mig mL-1 com absortividade molar estimada em 1,31 x 10(4) L mol-1 cm-1 e limite de detecção de 26 ng mL-1 em 588 nm. O uso do ácido 1,2-ciclohexilenodinitrilo tetraacético (CyDTA) como agente mascarante aumenta a seletividade do reagente para a determinação de urânio. O método proposto foi aplicado para determinação de urânio em água drenada de mina onde a precisão (R.S.D. < 2%) e exatidão obtidas foram satisfatórias.

A sensitive and selective spectrophotometric method is proposed for the rapid determination of uranium using 2-(2- Thiazolylazo)-p-Cresol (TAC). The reaction between TAC and uranium (VI) is instantaneous at pH 6.5 and the absorbance remains stable for over 3 h. N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethylamonium bromide (CTAB) and triton X-100 are used for increasing the sensitivity and solubility of the system respectively. The method allows the determination of uranium in the range from 0.30 to 12.0 mug mL-1 with a molar absorptivity of 1.31 x 10(4) L mol-1 cm-1 and features a detection limit of 26 ng mL-1 at 588 nm. The selectivity of the reagent was improved by the use of (1,2-cyclohexylenedinitrilo) tetraacetic acid (CyDTA) as masking agent. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of uranium in mine drainage waters. The precision (R.S.D. < 2%) and the accuracy obtained were satisfactory.

Cr(III) slowly forms a violet complex with EDTA at pH 2.5-5.0 under normal conditions. The complex formation can be accelerated by irradiating the reacting mixture with microwave energy. The complex Cr(III)-EDTA is completely formed within 3 minutes of microwave irradiation and followed by a simple and rapid method for spectrophotometric determination of chromium. The method may be successfully applied to determination of chromium in catalyst.

Um novo método espectrofotométrico para determinação de zinco(II) é proposto usando um derivado da 8-hidroxiquinolina, o ácido 7-(4-nitrofenilazo)-8-hidroxiquinolina sulfônico (p-NIAZOXS). A reação entre o p-NIAZOXS e o zinco(II) é rapida em pH 9,2 e o complexo formado é estável por pelo menos 24 h. O método permite a determinação de zinco na faixa de 0,05 a 1,0 mig mL-1 com absortividade molar de 3,75 x 10(4) L mol-1 cm-1 e limite de detecção de 15 ng mL-1. O método proposto foi aplicado na determinação de zinco em produtos farmacêuticos e ligas de cobre, onde a precisão (R. S. D. < 2%) e exatidão obtidas foram satisfatórias.

The precision (R.S.D. < 2%) and the accuracy obtained were satisfactory.

O presente trabalho descreve um procedimento para separação, preconcentração e determinação sequencial de quantidades traço de cobre e zinco em amostras de água natural, por espectrometria de emissão atômica com plasma indutivamente acoplado (ICP-AES). Este método é baseado na complexação dos íons cobre(II) e zinco(II) pelo 1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol (TAN) e sorção sobre a resina Amberlite XAD-2. Parametros tais como: quantidade de TAN, efeito de pH sobre a complexação e sorção dos complexos, tempo de agitação para completa sorção, concentração dos íons metálicos, massa de resina Amberlite XAD-2 necessária, dessorção dos íons metálicos da resina XAD-2 e volume da amostra foram estudados. Os resultados demonstraram que os íons cobre(II) e zinco(II), na faixa de 0,10 a 100,00 mig, contidos em volume de solução amostra de 400 mL, na faixa de pH de 5,7 a 8,3, sob a forma de complexos do TAN, é quantitativamente retido sobre a resina XAD-2. O tempo de agitação requerido para sorção é de 1 hora usando uma massa de resina de 1,4 g. A solução para determinação de cobre e zinco por ICP-AES é obtida, após a dessorção dos íons da resina, usando 5 mL de ácido clorídrico 2 mol L-1, agitando o sistema por 5 min. O procedimento foi aplicado na determinação de cobre e zinco em várias amostras de água natural. A técnica da adição padrão foi aplicada e as recuperações obtidas revelaram que o procedimento proposto tem uma boa exatidão e precisão. Um alto fator de enriquecimento (80) e a simplicidade são as principais vantagens neste procedimento.

The present paper describes a procedure for separation, preconcentration and sequential determination of trace amounts of copper and zinc in natural water samples, by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES). The proposed method is based on the complexation of copper(II) and zinc(II) ions by 1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol (TAN) and sorption on to Amberlite XAD-2 resin. Parameters such as: TAN amount, pH effect on the complexation and sorption of TAN complexes, agitation time for complete sorption, concentration of metal ion, mass of Amberlite XAD-2, desorption of metal ions from XAD-2 resin and sample volume were studied. The results demonstrated that the copper(II) and zinc(II) ions, in the range of 0.10 to 100.00 mug, contained in a solution sample volume of 400 mL, in the pH range of 5.7 to 8.3, on the form of TAN complexes had been quantitatively retained on to XAD-2 resin. The shaking time required for sorption is 1 h using a resin mass of 1.4 g. The solution for determination of copper and zinc by ICP-AES is obtained, after desorption of the ions from the XAD-2 resin, using 5 mL of 2 mol L-1 hydrochloric acid and shaking the system for 5 min. The procedure was applied to the determination of copper and zinc in several natural water samples. The standard addition technique was applied and the obtained recoveries revealed that the proposed procedure has a good accuracy. A high enrichment factor (80) and simplicity are the main advantages in this analytical protocol.

No presente trabalho, um procedimento para separação e determinação de alumínio em matrizes de ferro é proposto. Este é baseado na extração em fase sólida do ferro sob a forma de tiocianatos complexos, pela espuma de poliuretano. Os seguintes parâmetros foram estudados: efeito de pH e da concentração de tiocianato sob a extração do ferro, tempo de agitação necessário para extração quantitativa, quantidade de espuma requerida, separação de alumínio de ferro e de outros elementos, influência de ânions sob a sorção de ferro pela espuma e características analíticas do procedimento para determinação de alumínio usando o azul de metiltimol (MTB) como reagente cromogênico. Os resultados demonstraram que na faixa de pH de 1,5 a 4,7, com tiocianato na concentração de 0.80 mol L-1, tempo de agitação de 1 min e usando 1 g de espuma de poliuretano para extração, é possível separar alumínio(40 mig) de: grandes quantidades de ferro (10 mg), 800 mig de cobre(II), cobalto(II), zinco(II), mercúrio(II), manganês(II), estanho(IV) e tungstênio(V); 100 mig de chumbo(II) e titânio(IV) e 50 mig de vanádio(V). Cálcio(II), bário(II), estrôncio(II) e magnésio(II) não são separados por este processo; entretanto, não reagem com o MTB nas condições estabelecidas para determinação de alumínio. Os ânions nitrato, cloreto, sulfato e acetato não afetam a extração do ferro. Fosfato e EDTA devem estar ausentes. O azul de metiltimol possibilita a determinação espectrofotométrica de alumínio, com absortividade molar de 1,32 x 10(4) L mol-1 cm-1(em 528 nm), sensibilidade de calibração de 0,491 mL mig-1, limite de detecção de 5 ng mL-1, intervalo dinâmico de aplicação de 15 ng mL-1 a 1,00 mig mL-1 e coeficiente de variação de 0,73%. O procedimento proposto foi aplicado para determinação de alumínio em padrões de minérios de ferro e ligas metálicas. Os resultados encontrados não exibiram diferenças significativas em relação aos valores certificados.

In the present paper, a procedure for separation and determination of aluminium in iron matrices is proposed. It is based on the solid-phase extraction of the iron, in the form of thiocyanate complexes, by a polyurethane(PU) foam. The followings parameters were studied: effect of pH and of the thiocyanate concentration on the iron extraction, shaking time required for quantitative extraction, amount of PU foam necessary for complete extraction of iron, aluminium separation from other cations, influence of anions on the iron sorption by PU foam and analytical characteristics of the procedure for aluminium determination using methylthymol blue as chromogenic reagent. The results show that, in the pH range from 1.5 to 4.7, with a thiocyanate concentration of 0.80 mol L-1, by extraction using 1 g of polyurethane foam and a shaking time of 1 min, aluminium (40 mug) can be separated from large amounts of iron (10 mg), 800 mug of copper(II), cobalt(II), zinc(II), mercury(II), tin(IV), manganese(II) and tungsten(V); 100 mug of titanium(IV) and lead(II); and 50 mug of vanadium(V). Calcium(II), barium(II), strontium(II) and magnesium(II) can not be separated by this process, but do not react with MTB under the conditions used for aluminium determination. The anions nitrate, chloride, sulfate and acetate do not affect the iron extraction. Phosphate and EDTA must be absent. The methylthymol blue allowed the spectrophotometric determination of aluminium with molar absorptivity of 1.32 x 10(4) L mol-1 cm-1 (528 nm), calibration sensitivity of 0.491 mL g-1, detection limit of 5 ng mL-1 and dynamic interval of application of 15 ng mL-1 to 1.00 mg mL-1 and variation coefficient of 0.73%. The proposed procedure was applied for aluminium determination in iron ores and metal-base alloy standards. The obtained results did not show significant difference from the certified values.
