ABSTRACT Objective: Arthrodesis techniques such as anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) and lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) aim to reestablish physiological lordosis and minimize tissue damage to the paravertebral musculature. Supplementation with percutaneous pedicle screws is indicated in most cases, therefore, intraoperative changes in decubitus are necessary, generating costs and risks for the patient. This study aims to present concepts and results of a series of 100 cases of patients undergoing 360° fusion in lateral single position surgery (LSPS). Methods: retrospective analysis of databases collected between 2016 and 2021. Patients who underwent 360° fusion of the lumbar spine in single lateral decubitus to treat degenerative and infectious diseases were included. Cases with arthrodesis greater than 3 levels were excluded. Data collected include demographics, body mass index (BMI) and scores such as visual analog scale (VAS), EuroQOL 5D (EQ5D) and Oswestry disability index (ODI). Results: 100 patients were included in the study, submitted to LLIF and/or ALIF associated with percutaneous pedicle fixation. The lumbar VAS improved from 6.75 to 2.1 after 12 months, while the sciatica VAS started from 4.55 and reached 0.81 after one year. The EQ5D improved from 66.1 to 81.6 after the first year, while the ODI ranged from 28.54 to 14.18 in the same period. Conclusions: the clinical-functional results of the LSPS procedures are favorable and place the LSPS as an option to be studied, developed and practiced by spine surgery teams. Level of evidence: IV. Resumen: Objetivo: Las técnicas de artrodesis como la fusión intersomática lumbar anterior (ALIF) y la fusión intersomática lumbar lateral (LLIF) tienen como objetivo restablecer la lordosis fisiológica. La suplementación con tornillos pediculares percutáneos está indicada en la mayoría de los casos, por lo que son necesarios cambios en decúbito intraoperatorios, generando costos y riesgos para el paciente. Este estudio tiene como objetivo presentar conceptos y resultados de una serie de 100 casos de pacientes sometidos a fusión de 360° en cirugía de posición única lateral (LSPS). Métodos: análisis retrospectivo de bases de datos recolectadas entre 2016 y 2021. Se incluyeron pacientes que se sometieron a fusión de columna lumbar 360° en decúbito lateral y se excluyeron los casos con artrodesis mayores de 3 niveles. Los datos recopilados incluyen datos demográficos, índice de masa corporal (IMC) y puntajes como la escala analógica visual (VAS), EuroQOL 5D (EQ5D) y el índice de discapacidad de Oswestry (ODI). Resultados: 100 pacientes fueron incluidos en el estudio, sometidos a LLIF y/o ALIF asociados a fijación pedicular percutánea. La EVA lumbar mejoró de 6,75 a 2,1 a los 12 meses, mientras que la EVA de ciática partió de 4,55 y llegó a 0,81 al año. El EQ5D mejoró 66,1 a 81,6 después del primer año, mientras que el ODI varió 28,54 a 14,18 en el mismo período. Conclusiones: los resultados clínico-funcionales de los procedimientos de LSPS son favorables y a sitúan como una opción a ser estudiada, desarrollada y practicada por los equipos de cirugía de columna. Nivel de evidencia: IV. Series de casos.

Este estudo tem como objetivo apresentar conceitos e resultados de uma série de 100 casos de pacientes submetidos a fusão 360° em lateral single position surgery (LSPS). Métodos: análise retrospectiva de banco de dados coletados entre 2016 e 2021. Foram incluídos pacientes submetidos a fusão 360° da coluna lombar em decúbito lateral único para tratamento doenças degenerativas e infecciosas. Foram excluídos casos com artrodeses maiores que 3 níveis. Os dados coletados incluem demografia, índice de massa corpórea (IMC) e scores como visual analog scale (VAS), EuroQOL 5D (EQ5D) e Oswestry disability index (ODI). Resultados: 100 pacientes foram incluídos no estudo, submetidos a LLIF e/ ou ALIF associados a fixação pedicular percutânea. O VAS lombar apresentou melhora de 6,75 para 2,1 após 12 meses, já o VAS ciatalgia partiu de 4,55 e atingiu 0,81 após um ano. O EQ5D apresentou melhora de 66,1 para 81,6 após o primeiro ano, enquanto o ODI variou de 28,54 para 14,18 no mesmo período. Conclusões: os resultados clínico-funcionais dos procedimentos em LSPS se mostram favoráveis e a colocam o LSPS como uma opção a ser estudada, desenvolvida e praticada pelas equipes de cirurgia de coluna. Nível de evidência: IV. Série de casos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Transfusion of red blood cells is recurrent in cardiac surgery despite the well-established deleterious effects. Identifying patients with higher chances of requiring blood transfusion is essential to apply strategic preventive measures to reduce such chances, considering the restricted availability of this product. The most used risk scores to predict blood transfusion are the Transfusion Risk and Clinical Knowledge (TRACK) and Transfusion Risk Understanding Scoring Tool (TRUST). However, these scores were not validated for the Brazilian population. The objective of this study was to assess the accuracy of TRACK and TRUST scores in estimating the need for postoperative transfusion of red blood cell concentrates (TRBCC) after cardiac surgery. Methods: A clinical retrospective study was conducted using the database of a Brazilian reference service composed of patients operated between November 2019 and September 2021. Scores were compared using Mann-Whitney U test. Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test assessed calibration of the scores. Accuracy was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). All analyses considered a level of significance of 5%. The study was approved by the research ethics committee (CAAE 55577421.4.0000.5201). Results: This study assessed 498 patients. Only the TRACK score presented good calibration (P=0.238; TRUST P=0.034). AUC of TRACK was 0.678 (95% confidence interval 0.63 to 0.73; P<0.001), showing a significant accuracy. Conclusion: Between the scores analyzed, only the TRACK score showed a good calibration, but low accuracy, to predict postoperative TRBCC after cardiac surgery.

Abstract Basketball is a sport practiced around the world in this way, performances tests especially with low-cost and accessible are suggested to adjust the training. The 00aim of present study was to evaluate and correlate the speed and jump performance of lower limbs of basketball athletes from the Praia Grande, city of São Paulo, Brazil. Twelve male athletes (6.92 ± 2.57 years of pratice) from the Basketball team of Praia Grande City, aged 18.7 ± 0.6 years, height 1.85 ± 0.06, body mass 83.66 ± 10.16 kg were evaluated. The athletes were submitted to test sessions using the protocol for evaluating the maximum speed of 20 meters and the unilateral vertical jump. The speed on 20 meter test was 3.53 ± 0.20 seconds. Although an asymmetry of 17.81 ± 14.64% was found, no statistical difference (p = 0.817) was found between the dominant (36.50 ± 7.36 cm) and non-dominant (35.92 ± 5.63 cm) of vertical jump performance. Additionally, correlation between 20-meter test and values jump was found to dominant leg (p = 0.042) but not to non-dominant leg (p = 0.704). In conclusion, although asymmetry was found between members of the dominant and non-dominant side of the pitch, did not show any difference in the vertical jump.

Resumo O basquete é um esporte praticado em todo o mundo, desta forma, testes de desempenho principalmente com baixo custo e acessíveis são sugeridos para adequar o treinamento. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar e correlacionar a velocidade e o desempenho de salto de membros inferiores de atletas de basquetebol da cidade da Praia Grande, São Paulo, Brasil. Foram avaliados 12 atletas do sexo masculino (6,92 ± 2,57 anos de prática) da equipe de Basquetebol da Cidade de Praia Grande, com idade 18,7 ± 0,6 anos, estatura 1,85 ± 0,06, massa corporal 83,66 ± 10,16 kg. Os atletas foram submetidos a sessões de testes utilizando o protocolo de avaliação da velocidade máxima de 20 metros e do salto vertical unilateral. A velocidade no teste de 20 metros foi de 3,53 ± 0,20 segundos. Embora tenha sido encontrada uma assimetria de 17,81 ± 14,64%, não foi encontrada diferença estatística (p = 0,817) entre o desempenho do salto vertical dominante (36,50 ± 7,36 cm) e não dominante (35,92 ± 5,63 cm). Além disso, foi encontrada correlação entre o teste de 20 metros e os valores de salto para perna dominante (p = 0,042), mas não para perna não dominante (p = 0,704). Em conclusão, embora tenha sido encontrada assimetria entre membros do lado dominante e não dominante do campo, não houve diferença no salto vertical

Cancer treatment represents one of the main scientific study targets today, mainly due to the pronounced side effects arising from chemotherapy. This study reports the synthesis, characterization, and anticancer activity of ten compounds from the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction. Ethylene glycol diacrylate was used as a double Michael acceptor in reactions with isatin derivatives to give homodimers of 3-hydroxyindolin-2-one core, recognized in the literature for its extensive pharmacological profile. The use of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane (DABCO) as a catalyst and room temperature were the optimal conditions for the study reaction. The isolated yields were up to 63%, with most reaction times inferior to 24 h, some as fast as 15 min. The anticancer potential of the synthesized dimers was evaluated in vitro against three cancer strains, resulting in average inhibitory concentrations up to 0.72 µM. It was also found that the best performing homodimers are more active than their monomeric counterparts. Considering the promising selectivity indices observed, the preliminary results obtained here act as a basis for broader tests regarding the effectiveness of homodimeric adducts against cancer cells.

Reproduction of Meloidogyne morocciensis (Tylenchida: Meloidogynidae) in weeds found in Brazil

Abstract Weeds can be hosts of root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne. The importance of the species Meloidogyne morocciensis parasitizing many crops is recognized, but their reproductive capacity in weeds is not known. The present study hypothesizes the ability of M. morocciensis to parasitize and reproduce in different weed species found in Brazil. The objective was to evaluate the reproduction of M. morocciensis in 36 weed species. The plants were individually inoculated with 5,000 eggs and second stage juveniles and kept in greenhouse for 60 days. The experimental design was completely randomized with twelve replications. The root system of each plant was evaluated for gall index (GI), final nematode population (PF), number of nematode/g of root (NNGR) and reproduction factor (RF). It was verified that M. morocciensis has the capacity to parasite 36 weed species belonging to 16 different botanical families, confirming the hypothesis proposed. From the 36 species evaluated, 77.8% (28) were susceptible (FR ≥ 1.0) to M. morocciensis. The present study is the first to identify different weeds as hosts of M. morocciensis, evidencing its polyphagous habit, indicating species of plants with high capacity to multiply this nematode and that need more attention during the integrated management of these pathogen.

Objective: Clozapine is a second-generation antipsychotic indicated for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Studies in several countries have shown a low rate of clozapine use despite the fact that approximately 30% of schizophrenia cases are treatment-resistant. In Brazil, few studies have addressed the frequency and variety of antipsychotic use in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia (ICD F20). The objective of this study was to measure the rates of clozapine use in this population in the last decade using Brazilian Ministry of Health data. Methods: Prescriptions made between 2010 and 2020 in all 26 states and the Federal District registered at the Outpatient Information System Database from the Brazilian Health System (SIASUS) were evaluated. Results: A total of 25,143,524 prescriptions were recorded in this period, with clozapine representing 8.86% of all antipsychotics. The most frequently prescribed antipsychotic for patients with schizophrenia was olanzapine (35.8%), followed by quetiapine (27.5%). From 2010 to 2020, the rate of clozapine prescriptions in Brazil increased from 7.2% to 10.9%. Conclusions: Despite a slight increase in prescriptions in the last decade, clozapine is still underutilized in Brazil.

Abstract The Brazilian Practice Guidelines for Stroke Rehabilitation – Part II, developed by the Scientific Department of Neurological Rehabilitation of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (Academia Brasileira de Neurologia, in Portuguese), focuses on specific rehabilitation techniques to aid recovery from impairment and disability after stroke. As in Part I, Part II is also based on recently available evidence from randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other guidelines. Part II covers disorders of communication, dysphagia, postural control and balance, ataxias, spasticity, upper limb rehabilitation, gait, cognition, unilateral spatial neglect, sensory impairments, home rehabilitation, medication adherence, palliative care, cerebrovascular events related to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, the future of stroke rehabilitation, and stroke websites to support patients and caregivers. Our goal is to provide health professionals with more recent knowledge and recommendations for better rehabilitation care after stroke.

Resumo As Diretrizes Brasileiras de Reabilitação do Acidente Vascular Cerebral (AVC) - Parte II, desenvolvida pelo Departamento Científico de Reabilitação Neurológica da Academia Brasileira de Neurologia é voltada para intervenções específicas de técnicas de reabilitação de déficits neurológicos e incapacidades. Seguindo o mesmo modelo da Parte I, a Parte II também se baseia em estudos randomizados, revisões sistemáticas, metanálises e outras diretrizes sobre o mesmo tema. A segunda parte aborda os distúrbios da comunicação, disfagia, controle postural e equilíbrio, ataxias, espasticidade, reabilitação do membro superior, marcha, cognição, negligência espacial unilateral, déficits sensoriais, reabilitação domiciliar, aderênciaao usode medicamentos, cuidados paliativos,ofuturodareabilitação no AVC, e websites de orientação sobre AVC para pacientes e cuidadores. Nosso objetivo é fornecer aos profissionais envolvidos na reabilitação conhecimento atualizado e recomendações para um melhor cuidado no pós-AVC.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Brazil is facing increasing cycles of numbers of infected people and deaths resulting from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This situation involves a series of factors, including the behavior of the population, that can be decisive for controlling the disease. OBJECTIVE: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the Brazilian population regarding COVID-19. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional survey-type study, conducted using a population sample from different Brazilian states. METHODS: A quantitative, descriptive and analytical approach was used. Sampling was done according to convenience and via snowballing. The data collection instrument was a knowledge, attitudes and practices system. RESULTS: 1,655 people from all over Brazil participated in the survey; 80% were living in the southern region and 70.15% were female. More than 90% had knowledge and good attitudes relating to the means of transmission, preventive care and symptoms associated with COVID-19, although their knowledge and attitudes were not fully reflected in daily practices, for which there was lower adherence (80%). Greater knowledge was correlated with older participants, larger number of children, female sex and marital status; better attitude, with female sex and complete higher education; and better practices, with greater age, larger number of children and female sex. CONCLUSION: A large part of the population has general knowledge about COVID-19, but not all knowledge was applied in practice. Older people, females and university graduates stood out as the best informed and most committed to controlling the disease.

ABSTRACT EnlistTM technology is a new trait on soybean and corn conferring tolerance to auxinic-type (2,4-D choline) and graminicides (aryloxyphenoxypropionates – FOPs) herbicides. However, the occurrence of volunteer corn tolerant to 2,4-D and FOPs can become a significant weed on soybean cropping systems, affecting the crop yield and reducing seed quality. This research aimed to evaluate herbicides to EnlistTM volunteer corn control and their effects on plant development, crop yield, and physiological seed quality of EnlistTM soybean. Field experiment was performed in a complete randomized block experimental design with four replicates, using a density of 10 plants·m-2 of EnlistTM volunteer corn. Treatments consisted of herbicides applied at 3-4-leaves stage of volunteer corn with haloxyfop-P-methyl, clethodim, pinoxaden, cloransulam-methyl and imazethapyr regarding to a control with and without volunteer corn. The development and yield components of EnlistTM soybean were evaluated and physiological seed testing performed on soybean’s seeds. Clethodim controlled EnlistTM volunteer corn, whereas haloxyfop-P-methyl, pinoxaden, and cloransulam-methyl showed insufficient control levels (30-35%) at 30 days after spray. Imazethapyr exhibited 84% of control of EnlistTM volunteer corn and injured the EnlistTM soybean, affecting its seed viability. EnlistTM volunteer corn interferences negatively the soybean crop yield, yield components, and affects the plant development pattern.

RESUMO A busca pela otimização dos sistemas agrícolas, por meio da adequação dos conjuntos mecanizados na semeadura do milho, é essencial visando a melhoria do desempenho operacional, da eficiência energética e do estabelecimento inicial da cultura. Neste contexto, objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho de uma semeadora-adubadora e a qualidade da semeadura do milho, em Latossolo Vermelho Distroférrico manejado sob preparo reduzido, em função do tipo de sulcador, da profundidade de deposição da semente e da velocidade da operação de semeadura. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas com três repetições, sendo as parcelas o tipo de mecanismo sulcador (haste sulcadora ou disco-duplo) e as subparcelas três velocidades de deslocamento (3,20; 5,15; 7,32 km h-1) e duas profundidades de semeadura (35 e 40 mm). A melhor qualidade de semeadura do milho segunda safra, a menor exigência de força na barra de tração do trator, os menores consumos específico e horário de combustível e a menor taxa de redução de percurso são obtidos quando o disco-duplo e a profundidade de deposição de sementes de 35 mm são usados na configuração do conjunto trator-semeadora-adubadora. A adoção de velocidades de deslocamento maiores resulta em aumento das capacidades de campo operacional e efetiva, bem como menor demanda energética na semeadura do milho quando o conjunto trator-semeadora-adubadora desenvolve velocidade próximo ou superior a 7,32 km h-1, independentemente do sulcador e da profundidade do solo.

ABSTRACT The search to optimise agricultural systems by adapting mechanised sets for sowing maize, is essential for improving operational performance, energy efficiency and initial crop establishment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance and sowing quality of a planter-fertiliser for maize, in a dystroferric Red Latosol managed under reduced tillage, as a function of the type of furrower, depth of seed deposition and operating speed of the planter. The experimental design was completely randomised, in a split-plot scheme with three replications, where the plots represented the type of furrowing mechanism (shank or double-disk) and the subplots represented three displacement speeds (3.20, 5.15 and 7.32 km h-1) and two sowing depths (35 and 40 mm). The best sowing quality for second-crop maize, the lowest power requirement at the tractor drawbar, the lowest specific and hourly fuel and consumption time, and the lowest travel reduction ratio are achieved when the tractor-planter-fertiliser set is configured to use a double-disk at a sowing depth of 35 mm. The adoption of higher displacement speeds results in increased operational and effective field capacity, as well as a lower energy demand when the tractor-planterfertiliser set develops speeds close to or greater than 7.32 km h-1, irrespective of furrower type or soil depth.

Abstract Meloidogyne javanica is among the most important nematodes that damage soybean, and although genetic resistance is the ideal control measure, there are few cultivars described as resistant among those recommended for southern Brazil. The objective of this work was to evaluate the reaction of soybean cultivars to M. javanica. The inoculum of nematodes (Est. J3) was obtained from soybean plants and inoculated into tomato plants cultivar “Santa Cruz”. Thirty-seven soybean cultivars widely used in the South, Southeast and Midwest of Brazil were used in the experiment. For each plant a suspension of 5,000 eggs + juveniles of second stage of M. javanica was inoculated into a sterile soil hole in 2-liter pots with six replications. The evaluation of root weight, number of galls, number of nematodes was 60 days after M. javanica inoculation. The results were subjected to analysis of variance, and the averages of each treatment were compared to each other by the Scott-Knott cluster test at 5% probability. Even though M. javanica presented RF> 1.00 in all soybean genotypes tested, different levels of susceptibility were observed. Thus, the lowest reproduction of the root-knot nematode was observed in M 5947 IPRO, HO AMAMBAY IPRO, BMX GARRA IPRO and FPS ATALANTA.

Abstract This study assessed the effect of different concentrations of (Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum) on lipid oxidation, microbiological and sensorial characteristics of four different formulations of fresh pork sausage and smoked (control, F1, F2, F3), with the substitution of industrial antioxidant for the natural one. Lipid oxidation values (TBARS) did not display significant differences (P>0.05) among the treatments, and at different times of analysis (storage). The only significant differences were between the different types of sausages (fresh and smoked). The enumeration of all the microorganisms searched was below the standard required by Brazilian laws. F2 formula received the highest scores for acceptance but did not display significant difference (P>0.05) as it refers to taste, with the remaining formulations. The substitution of the synthetic antioxidant by the natural one displayed similar results, demonstrating that the natural extract from the balloon pepper does not affect the technological and sensorial properties of the sausages, which proves the viability of the product.
