ABSTRACT The dynamic balance of the lower limbs has shown great importance in accomplishing activities of daily living, especially for walking and maintenance in the orthostatic position. In this context, individuals with knee osteoarthritis have changes in their physical capacity, mainly due to joint changes and muscular wear. The instrument called OctoBalance® is one of the most used to evaluate this balance, which analyses four different executions of movement in the limbs. However, individuals with knee osteoarthritis cannot perform this evaluation due to the need for single limb support during movements. This study aimed to verify whether it is reproducible to perform the dynamic balance evaluation of lower limbs with a reduction of 10% of body weight through a suspension system. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 2 collections with a 48-hour interval between them, using the Lower Body Test performed with OctoBalance®. The dynamic balance test followed the protocol of 3 repetitions observing the learning factor and then 3 repetitions where the values were collected, with the suggested adaptation for all 4 diagonals in both limbs. The interclass correlation index (ICI), coefficient of variation (CV), estimative standard error (EEE) and minimum detectable difference (MDD) were calculated as indicators of reproducibility. Also, Bland-Altman Graphs were used for visual verification of the agreement between the means. Results: The reliability tests showed a very high interclass correlation through the ICI and low variation values for all the movements evaluated through the CV. The EEE and MDD calculations showed positive responses for greater reliability, and the Bland-Altman graphs showed an agreement between the means. Reproducibility was positive for the Lower Body Test with the Octobalance® platform for the evaluation of lower limb dynamic balance in women with knee osteoarthritis.

ABSTRACT Hip joint degenerative pathology appears in young age groups, related to femoroacetabular impingement, and in advanced age, due to other inflammatory causes, with greater potential for severity in the presence of comorbidities. Within a sample group of 54 patients with surgical indication, treated at a university orthopaedic referral hospital, our objective is to carry out a descriptive analysis of anthropometric variables, level of pain in subjects with early hip osteoarthritis and to identify in the active-active group the distribution of domains of physical activity practice, according to the IPAQ. The prevalent age group was below 60 years (79.6%); most (44.4%) of those included in the study had femoroacetabular impact; among these subjects, 77.8% were active and 22.2% inactive. There was no statistically significant difference between groups in BMI (p= 0.838) and visual analogic scale (p= 0.259). There was a medium effect (ηp 2 = 0.072) for the BMI and a high effect (ηp 2 = 0.277) for VAS. 55.6% were male and 44.4% female. In conclusion, age under 60 years and increased incidence of BMI were present in osteoarthritis’s clinical diagnosis. Therefore, prevention and physical activity should be encouraged in individuals with this advanced joint disease.

RESUMO A patologia degenerativa articular do quadril surge em grupos etários jovens, relacionados ao impacto femoroacetabular e em idade avançada, por outras causas inflamatórias, com potencial maior de gravidade na presença de comorbidades. Dentro de um grupo amostral de 54 pacientes com indicação cirúrgica, atendidos em um hospital de referência ortopédica universitário, nosso objetivo foi realizar uma análise descritiva de variáveis antropométricas, nível de dor em indivíduos com osteoartrite do quadril avançada e identificar no grupo de indivíduos ativos a distribuição de domínios da prática de atividade física, conforme o IPAQ. A faixa etária prevalente foi abaixo de 60 anos (79,6%), a maior parte (44,4%) dos incluídos no estudo apresentavam impacto femoroacetabular, dentre os sujeitos 77,8% eram ativos e 22,2% inativos. Não não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os grupos no IMC (p= 0,838) e escala visual analógica (p= 0,259). Para a variável IMC houve efeito médio (η2p= 0,072) e para a EVA efeito alto (η2p= 0,277). 55,6% eram do sexo masculino e 44,4% do feminino. Como conclusão, idade menor que 60 anos e o aumento do IMC e a sua maior incidência, esteve presentes no diagnóstico clínico da osteoartrite. Portanto, em indivíduos com osteoartrite avançada, atividades de prevenção e prática de atividades físicas devem ser incentivadas.

RESUMO O tratamento do câncer de mama pode prejudicar a amplitude de movimento (ADM) e causar dor no membro superior (MS) homolateral. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a ADM, a intensidade e a caracterização da dor no MS homolateral à cirurgia entre as 1ª, 10ª e 20ª sessões de fisioterapia, além de correlacionar estas variáveis. Foi conduzido um ensaio clínico autocontrolado com a participação de 49 mulheres após cirurgia de câncer de mama que se queixavam de dor no MS. A ADM foi avaliada por meio de goniometria e o MS contralateral foi adotado como controle. A intensidade de dor foi avaliada pela escala visual analógica (EVA) e caracterizada pelo Questionário de McGill, obtendo-se o número de palavras escolhidas (NWC) e o índice de avaliação da dor (PRI). Verificou-se aumento significativo da ADM do MS homolateral ao longo das 20 sessões. Comparando o MS homolateral ao contralateral, somente a abdução não melhorou significativamente após a 20ª sessão. Observou-se uma redução significativa da intensidade de dor, do PRI e do NWC entre a 1ª e 10ª e entre a 1ª e 20ª sessão. As categorias sensorial e avaliativa também diminuíram significativamente. Foi encontrada uma correlação significativa entre EVA, PRI e NWC entre a 10ª e a 20ª sessão. A fisioterapia aumentou a ADM, reduziu a dor no MS homolateral e o número de palavras escolhidas para caracterizar a dor. Foram observadas melhoras expressivas no início do tratamento e ganhos adicionais ao longo do tempo. Exercícios para flexão, abdução e rotação externa bilaterais devem ser enfatizados no tratamento.

ABSTRACT Treatment of breast cancer can impair range of motion (ROM) and cause homolateral upper limb pain (UL). This study aimed to compare the ROM, intensity and characterization of UL homolateral pain between the 1st, 10th and 20th sessions of physiotherapy, besides correlating these variables. A clinical trial self-controlled study involving 49 women after mastectomy or quadrantectomy with pain complaint on UL was conducted. ROM was evaluated by goniometry and contralateral UL was adopted as control. The intensity of pain was evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) and characterized by the McGill questionnaire, obtaining the number of words chosen (NWC) and the pain evaluation index (PRI). The ROM of the homolateral UL increased significantly over the 20 sessions. Comparing the homolateral UL with the control, only the abduction did not improve significantly after the 20th session. Pain intensity, PRI and NWC reduced significantly between 1st and 10th and between 1st and 20th sessions. The sensory and evaluative categories also decreased significantly. We observed a significant correlation between VAS, PRI and NWC in the 10th and 20th sessions. Physiotherapy increased ROM, reduced pain in the homolateral UL, and fewer words were chosen to characterize the pain. Significant improvements were observed at the beginning of treatment, but with additional gains over time. Exercises for bilateral flexion, abduction, and external rotation should be emphasized.

RESUMEN El tratamiento del cáncer de mama puede afectar al rango del movimiento (RDM) y causar dolor en el miembro superior (MS) ipsilateral. El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar el RDM, la intensidad y la caracterización del dolor en el MS ipsilateral después de la cirugía entre la 1.ª, la 10.ª y la 20.ª sesión de fisioterapia, además de correlacionar estas variables. Se realizó un ensayo clínico autocontrolado con la participación de 49 mujeres después de haber sometido a cirugía de cáncer de mama y que se quejaban de dolor en el MS. El RDM se evaluó mediante goniometría, y se adoptó como control el MS contralateral. La intensidad del dolor se evaluó mediante la escala analógica visual (EVA) y se caracterizó mediante el Cuestionario de McGill, que obtuvo el número de palabras elegidas (NWC) y el índice de evaluación del dolor (PRI). Hubo un incremento significativo en el RDM del MS ipsilateral durante las 20 sesiones. En las comparaciones entre el MS ipsilateral y el contralateral, solo la abducción no mejoró significativamente después de la 20.ª sesión. Hubo una reducción significativa en la intensidad del dolor, del PRI y del NWC entre la 1ª y la 10ª sesión y entre la 1ª y la 20ª sesión. Las categorías sensoriales y evaluativas también disminuyeron significativamente. Se encontró una correlación significativa entre EVA, PRI y NWC entre la 10ª y la 20ª sesión. La fisioterapia pudo incrementar el RDM, reducir el dolor del MS ipsilateral y disminuir la cantidad de palabras elegidas para caracterizar el dolor. Se encontraron mejoras significativas al comienzo del tratamiento y ganancias adicionales a lo largo del tiempo. Los ejercicios bilaterales de flexión, abducción y rotación externa deben enfatizarse en el tratamiento.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To assess the credibility and the quality content of COVID-19 pandemic information on Brazilian websites. METHODS: We performed Google searches and screened the first 45 websites. The websites were categorized as academic, commercial, government, hospital, media, nongovernmental organizations, and professionals. The credibility was assessed by JAMA benchmark criteria and HONCODE. A checklist with WHO information about COVID-19 was developed to assess the quality content. For each website, the level of agreement with WHO information was categorized into “total,” “partial,” or “disagreement”. RESULTS: A total of 20 websites were analyzed. None of the websites had HONCODE certification. Six websites (30%) met none of the four JAMA criteria and only one website (5%) fulfilled all the four criteria. Only 11 out of 20 websites showed overall coverage >50% for the checklist. Overall, 70% (14/20) of the websites had at least 50% total agreement with WHO items. The government websites presented more disagreement with the WHO items than media websites in the overall quality content analysis. CONCLUSION: The COVID-19 information on Brazilian websites have a moderate-to-low credibility and quality, particularly on the government websites.

Abstract Background: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation seems to be a promising option to intensify the rehabilitation and improve the exercise capacity of patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the hemodynamic (heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and mean blood pressure) and respiratory (respiratory rate and oxygen saturation) responses to neuromuscular electrical stimulation in the immediate postoperative period in patients submitted to cardiac surgery and to verify its feasibility and safety. Methods: This is a pilot randomized controlled trial, wherein critical patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery were randomly assigned to a control group, using sham neuromuscular electrical stimulation, or an experimental group, submitted to neuromuscular electrical stimulation sessions (FES), for 60 min, with a 50-Hz frequency, 200-µs pulse duration, time on: 3 s, and time off: 9 s. Data distribution was evaluated by the Shapiro-Wilk test. The analysis of variance was used and a p-value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Thirty patients were included in the study. The neuromuscular electrical stimulation was applied within the first 23.13 ± 5.24 h after cardiac surgery, and no changes were found regarding the hemodynamic and respiratory variables between the patients who underwent neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and those in the control group. Conclusions: In the present study, neuromuscular electrical stimulation did not promote changes in hemodynamic and respiratory responses of patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery.

O Crossfit® se caracteriza por exercício crescente de alta intensidade, movimento variado e funcional, como levantamento olímpico, de peso e movimentos de ginástica combinados em trabalhos de alta intensidade. A complexidade de treinamento e o grande número de indivíduos ligados ao Crossfit®, aumenta a necessidade de estudos para avaliar o efeito dessa modalidade de treinamento no sistema músculo esquelético e metabólico. Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi analisar o efeito de uma sessão de Crossfit® na força, potência e temperatura corporal. Participaram do estudo 10 sujeitos com experiência na modalidade que foram submetidos a um pré-teste, a uma intervenção de uma aula de Crossfit® e um pós teste, os testes foram de saltos, flexibilidade, força de tronco e preensão manual, potência em membros superiores (MMSS) e verificação da assimetria termográfica. Foram verificadas diferenças significativas (p<0,05) nos testes de salto em contra movimento (CMJ) (49,03±3,13 vs. 45,27±4,20) , e potência em MMSS (762,50±171,54 vs. 696,40±162,89) e assimetria térmica de braço (0,27±0,21 vs.0,55±0,34). Do exposto verifica-se que se faz necessário um acompanhamento dos praticantes de Crossfit®, principalmente nos testes mencionados, uma vez que uma única sessão mostrou ser capaz de promover desequilíbrios físicos e estes de forma repetitiva poder gerar sobrecargas locais.

Crossfit® is characterized by increased high-intensity exercise, varied and functional movement, such as Olympic lifting, weight and gymnastics movements combined in high-intensity workouts. The training complexity and the large number of individuals linked to Crossfit® increases the need for studies to evaluate the effect of this training modality on the musculoskeletal and metabolic system. Thus, the objective of the study was to analyze the effect of a Crossfit® session on body strength, power and temperature. Participating in the study were 10 subjects with experience in the modality who were submitted to a pre-test, a intervention of a Crossfit® class and a post test, the tests were of jumps, flexibility, trunk strength and manual grip, potency in limbs (MMSS) and verification of thermal asymmetry. There were significant differences (p <0.05) in the jump-on-motion (CMJ) tests (49.03 ± 3.13 vs. 45.27 ± 4.20), and power in SBM (762.50 ± 171, 54 vs. 696.40 ± 162.89) and arm thermal asymmetry (0.27 ± 0.21 vs.0.55 ± 0.34). From the above it is verified that it is necessary to follow the Crossfit® practitioners, especially in the mentioned tests, since a single session showed to be able to promote physical imbalances and these in a repetitive way could generate local overloads.

Abstract AIMS To verify the incidence of injuries in professional soccer athletes in Aracaju-SE and to identify associated factors. METHODS This was an observational, prospective cohort study involving 39 healthy athletes, followed for seven months and evaluated on four occasions (start on preseason and two evaluations with three months of interval between each) through data collection sheet and orthopedic physical examination. RESULTS Participants were 20 athletes from Club Sportivo Sergipe and 19 from Associação Desportiva Confiança, with mean age of 26 years (CI 95%: 25.2-28 years), and mean career time of 9.6 years (CI 95%: 7.9-11.3 years). The 13 (2.4 / 1000 hours) diagnosed injuries occurred almost exclusively in the lower limbs and thigh muscle stretch was the most common injury. Injuries were mostly mild to moderate (69%). There was no significant association with any of the variables analyzed. CONCLUSION Low incidence of injuries was observed in this study. Predominantly, lesions occurred on non-rainy days and were due to trauma. Lower limbs were the most affected location and thigh stretch was the most common injury.

Introdução Crioterapia é a aplicação de modalidades de frio com temperatura de 0ºC a 18,3ºC, podendo interferir no desempenho físico e equilíbrio, dependendo da capacidade do indivíduo em manter a estabilização, direcionar padrões de movimentos, controlar a postura e posição articular. Objetivo Avaliar o desempenho físico, a frequência cardíaca e o equilíbrio estático com olhos abertos, em atletas de futsal (futebol de salão), antes e depois da crioimersão nos membros inferiores. Métodos Trinta e dois indivíduos do gênero masculino participaram do estudo, distribuídos aleatoriamente em dois grupos: (A) grupo controle, imersão em água a 24°C por 10 min; (B) grupo intervenção, crioimersão em água com gelo a 10°C por 10 min. Os voluntários realizavam a avaliação do equilíbrio no baropodômetro, em seguida corriam em linha reta e em ziguezague por 100 m, entravam na crioimersão, terminando com uma nova avaliação. Foram analisados o desempenho físico, através dos tempos das corridas, a frequência cardíaca, por meio de um frequencímetro e o equilíbrio, através da baropodometria e estabilometria em apoio bipodal de olhos abertos. Resultados O desempenho físico foi alterado após a crioimersão quando das análises intra e intergrupos. A frequência cardíaca apresentou diferença ao comparar-se antes e após a crio, porém sem diferenças em comparação ao controle. O equilíbrio não foi alterado após a crioimersão e nem em comparação com o grupo controle. Conclusão A crioimersão prejudicou o desempenho físico, quando a atividade foi imediatamente após a mesma, sendo desta forma o gelo não aconselhável quando se deseja desempenho na atividade desportiva. Porém não apresentou interferência na frequência cardíaca e no equilíbrio de atletas de futsal, que podem não ter sido alterados devido ao tempo da crioimersão.

Introduction Cryotherapy is the application of methods of cold temperature of 0°C to 18.3°C, which may interfere in physical performance and balance, depending on the individual's capacity of maintaining stabilization, targeting movement patterns, controlling posture and joint position. Objective To evaluate physical performance, heart rate and static balance with eyes open, in indoor soccer players before and after cold-water immersion of lower limbs. Methods Thirty-two male subjects participated in the study, being randomly divided into two groups: (A) control group, immersion in water at 24°C for 10 minutes, (B) intervention group, immersion in cold-water at 10°C for 10 minutes. The volunteers performed evaluation of balance through a baropodometer, then they ran straight and in zigzag for 100 meters, entered in cold-water immersion, ending with a new assessment. We analyzed physical performance throughout the time of race, the heart rate by means of a frequency counter, and balance through a baropodometer and stabilometry in bipedal support with their eyes open. Results The physical performance was modified after immersion in cold-water in intragroup and intergroup analysis. The heart rate showed difference when comparing before and after cryotherapy, but no differences compared to control. The balance showed no alteration after cryotherapy nor in comparison with the control group. Conclusion Cryotherapy impaired physical performance when the activity was performed immediately thereafter, therefore ice is not recommended when you want performance in sporting activities. Nevertheless, ice had no interference on heart rate and balance of indoor soccer players, which may not have been altered due to the time of immersion.

Introducción Crioterapia es la aplicación de diferentes modalidades de frio con temperatura de 0ºC a 18,3ºC, pudiendo interferir en el rendimiento físico y en el equilibrio, dependiendo de la capacidad del individuo de mantener la estabilización, direccionar padrones de movimientos, controlar la postura y posición articular. Objetivo Evaluar el rendimiento físico, la frecuencia cardíaca y el equilibrio estático con ojos abiertos, en jugadores de fútbol sala, antes y después de crioinmersión en los miembros inferiores. Métodos Treinta y dos individuos del género masculino participaron del estudio, distribuidos aleatoriamente en dos grupos: (A) grupo control, inmersión en agua a 24°C por 10 minutos; (B) grupo intervención, crioinmersión en agua con hielo a 10°C durante 10 minutos. Los voluntarios realizaban la evaluación del equilibrio en un baropodómetro, luego corrían en línea recta y en zigzag durante 100 metros, entraban en la crioinmersión, finalizando con una nueva evaluación. El rendimiento físico fue analizado a través de los tempos de carreras, la frecuencia cardíaca, por medio de un frecuencímetro cardiaco, y el equilibrio a través de baropodometría y estabilometría en apoyo bipodal con ojos abiertos. Resultados El rendimiento físico fue modificado después de la crioinmersión, tanto cuando analizados intra como intergrupal. La frecuencia cardíaca presentó diferencia significativa al comparar-se antes e después de la crioterapia, pero sin diferencias en comparación al control. El equilibrio no fue alterado después de la crioterapia ni en comparación con el grupo control. Conclusión La crioinmersión afectó negativamente el rendimiento físico, cuando la actividad fue realizada inmediatamente después de la misma, siendo de esta manera la crioinmersión no aconsejable cuando se desea incrementar el rendimiento en la actividad deportiva. Pero no presentó interferencia en la frecuencia cardíaca ni en el equilibrio en jugadores de fútbol sala, que pueden no haber sido alterados debido al tempo da crioinmersión.

Introdução: A força muscular periférica tem sido pouco explorada na literatura atual no contexto da reabilitação cardiovascular. Objetivo: Avaliar a força muscular periférica de pacientes submetidos à cirurgia cardíaca eletiva. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo observacional e longitudinal. A força muscular periférica foi mensurada por meio de dinamometria isométrica de MMII (extensores e flexores de joelho) em três momentos distintos: pré-operatório (M1), dia da alta da unidade de terapia intensiva (M2) e dia da alta hospitalar (M3). Os participantes receberam atendimento fisioterapêutico pré e pós-operatório durante os dias do internamento, nos períodos matutino e vespertino. Resultados: Foram avaliados 22 pacientes. Os valores de força muscular periférica de extensores de joelho pré-operatórios encontrados foram cerca de 50% menores do que os preditos para a população saudável. Ao comparar a força muscular prévia (M1), com os demais momentos de avaliação, encontrou-se em M2 queda de 29% para o movimento de extensão do joelho e 25% para o movimento de flexão de joelho e queda de 10% para o movimento de extensão do joelho e 13% para o movimento de flexão de joelho em M3 ao comparar com M1. Conclusão: Os valores de força muscular periférica prévia dos pacientes do estudo foram menores do que o predito para a população saudável com a mesma faixa etária. Após o evento cirúrgico, essa redução é ainda mais notável, sendo reestabelecida até o momento da alta hospitalar a valores próximos ao basal.

Introduction: Peripheral muscle strength has been little explored in the literature in the context of cardiac rehabilitation. Objective: To evaluate the peripheral muscle strength of patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery. Methods: This was a longitudinal observational study. The peripheral muscle strength was measured using isometric dynamometry lower limb (knee extensors and flexors) at three different times: preoperatively (M1), the day of discharge (M2) and hospital discharge (M3). Participants received physiotherapy pre and postoperatively during the days of hospitalization during the morning and afternoon. Results: Twenty-two patients were evaluated. The values of peripheral muscle strength of knee extensors preoperative found were about 50% lower than those predicted for the healthy population. When comparing muscle strength prior (M1), with the remaining evaluation, found himself in a fall of 29% for the movement of knee extension and 25% for knee flexion in M2 and a decrease of 10% movement for knee extension and 13% for knee flexion in M3 when comparing with M1. Conclusion: The values of peripheral muscle strength prior of the study patients were lower than predicted for the healthy population of the same age. After the surgical event this reduction is even more remarkable, being reestablished until the time of discharge, to values close to baseline.

Analisar o ângulo Q, durante o treinamento resistido no "Leg Press 45º" e na "Cadeira Extensora". 14 indivíduos do gênero feminino praticantes de treinamento resistido executaram um exercício em CCA e um em CCFI, variando de 0 a 90º de flexão onde eram registradas imagens frontais a cada 10º de amplitude. Através do SAPo v.068, foram medidos os Ângulos Q e com as médias por grupos, realizado um Teste t para amostras independentes com p<0,05. O ângulo Q, quando comparado em CCA e CCFI, alterou-se com o aumento da flexão do joelho, tanto para os joelhos normais quanto para os valgos, então é válida a combinação de exercícios em CCA e CCFI no fortalecimento muscular, tendo o devido cuidado com a tendência ao valgismo patológico determinada pelo ângulo Q.

To examine the Q angle, during the resistance training by "Leg Press 45" and the "extensor chair". 14 female subjects practitioners gym carried out exercises at OKC and ICKC, ranging from 0° to 90° of flexion, where images were recorded each 10°. Through SAPO v.068, the Q angles were measured; and conducted a T-test for independent samples with p<0.05. The resistance training should include muscle exercises in OKC and ICKC, with special attention to the last one, contradicting the view of some authors. The Q angle, when compared to OKC and ICKC, changed with the increase of bending the knee for both knees to normal as the valgus, validating the combination of exercises in OKC and ICKC in muscle strengthening, for possible trend to the pathologic valgus.

Analizar el ángulo Q, durante el entrenamiento de resistencia en el "Leg Press 45°" y la "máquina de extensión de la pierna". 14 sujetos de sexo femenino realizó un ejercicio de entrenamiento de resistencia en CCA y una en CCCI, que van desde 0 a 90º frente a donde las imágenes se registraron cada 10 grados de amplitud. A través de SAPO v.068, ángulos Q fueron medidos y las medias por grupos, llevó a cabo un test t para muestras independientes con p <0,05. El ángulo Q, cuando comparado en CCA y CCCI, cambiado con el aumento de la flexión de rodilla de ambas rodillas en valgo y para las normales. Es válida una combinación de ejercicios en CCA y CCCI el fortalecimiento del músculo, teniendo el debido cuidado con la tendencia a valgus patológico determinada por el ángulo Q.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of physiotherapeutic respiratory maneuvers on cerebral and cardiovascular hemodynamics and blood gas variables. METHOD: A descriptive, longitudinal, prospective, nonrandomized clinical trial that included 20 critical patients with severe craniocerebral trauma who were receiving mechanical ventilation and who were admitted to the intensive care unit. Each patient was subjected to the physiotherapeutic maneuvers of vibrocompression and increased manual expiratory flow (5 minutes on each hemithorax), along with subsequent airway suctioning with prior instillation of saline solution, hyperinflation and hyperoxygenation. Variables related to cardiovascular and cerebral hemodynamics and blood gas variables were recorded after each vibrocompression, increased manual expiratory flow and airway suctioning maneuver and 10 minutes after the end of airway suctioning. RESULTS: The hemodynamic and blood gas variables were maintained during vibrocompression and increased manual expiratory flow maneuvers; however, there were increases in mean arterial pressure, intracranial pressure, heart rate, pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary capillary pressure during airway suctioning. All of the values returned to baseline 10 minutes after the end of airway suctioning. CONCLUSION: Respiratory physiotherapy can be safely performed on patients with severe craniocerebral trauma. Additional caution must be taken when performing airway suctioning because this technique alters cerebral and cardiovascular hemodynamics, even in sedated and paralyzed patients.

INTRODUÇÃO: A cirurgia cardíaca tem sido a intervenção de escolha em muitos casos de doenças cardiovasculares. Pela susceptibilidade a complicações pós-operatórias, a reabilitação cardíaca é indicada. Recursos terapêuticos, como a realidade virtual, tem favorecido o processo reabilitacional. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o uso da realidade virtual na reabilitação funcional de pacientes pós-cirurgia cardíaca. MÉTODOS: Os pacientes foram randomizados em dois grupos, Realidade Virtual (GRV, n=30) e Grupo Controle (GC, n=30). A resposta ao tratamento foi avaliada por meio do Questionário de Medida de Independência Funcional (MIF), Teste de caminhada de 6 minutos e do Perfil de Saúde de Nottingham (PSN). Os questionários foram aplicados no pré e pós-operatório. RESULTADOS: No primeiro dia de pós-operatório, os pacientes de ambos os grupos demonstraram diminuição do desempenho funcional. No entanto, essa perda foi menor no GRV (45,712,3) em relação ao GC (35,0612,09, P<0,05), sem diferença significativa no momento da alta hospitalar (P>0,05). Na avaliação do PSN, foi observada menor intensidade da dor no terceiro momento de avaliação no GRV (P<0,05). Esses pacientes também apresentaram maior nível de energia na primeira avaliação (P<0,05). Não foram encontradas diferenças com significância estatística para reações emocionais, habilidade física e interação social. O tempo de internação foi significativamente menor nos pacientes do GRV (P<0,05), que também apresentaram maior distância percorrida no TC6 (319,9119,3 metros vs. 263,5115,4 metros, P<0,02). CONCLUSÃO: O tratamento com a realidade virtual foi eficaz em proporcionar melhor desempenho funcional pós-operatório.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac surgery has been the intervention of choice in many cases of cardiovascular diseases. Susceptibility to postoperative complications, cardiac rehabilitation is indicated. Therapeutic resources, such as virtual reality has been helping the rehabilitational process. The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of virtual reality in the functional rehabilitation of patients in the postoperative period. METHODS: Patients were randomized into two groups, Virtual Reality (VRG, n = 30) and Control (CG, n = 30). The response to treatment was assessed through the functional independence measure (FIM), by the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Evaluations were performed preoperatively and postoperatively. RESULTS: On the first day after surgery, patients in both groups showed decreased functional performance. However, the VRG showed lower reduction (45.712.3) when compared to CG (35.0612.09, P<0.05) in first postoperative day, and no significant difference in performance on discharge day (P>0.05). In evaluating the NHP field, we observed a significant decrease in pain score at third assessment (P<0.05). These patients also had a higher energy level in the first evaluation (P<0.05). There were no differences with statistical significance for emotional reactions, physical ability, and social interaction. The length of stay was significantly shorter in patients of VRG (9.410.5 days vs. 12.2 1 0.9 days, P<0.05), which also had a higher 6MWD (319.9119.3 meters vs. 263.5115.4 meters, P<0.02). CONCLUSION: Adjunctive treatment with virtual reality demonstrated benefits, with better functional performance in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

O presente estudo comparou a função pulmonar e a fadiga de mulheres antes e após a radioterapia (RT) adjuvante para tratamento do câncer de mama, e correlacionou a função pulmonar com a dose de radiação e fadiga. Foi conduzido um estudo observacional longitudinal envolvendo 20 mulheres. A função pulmonar foi avaliada pela espirometria (ClementClarke®) e manovacuometria (GlobalMed®, modelo MVD 300), e a fadiga pelo Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Fatigue (FACT-F). Todas as avaliações foram realizadas antes da primeira sessão e uma semana após o término da RT adjuvante. Para a análise estatística foram utilizados os testes Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test e correlação de Spearman, adotando-se nível de significância p<0,05. Na espirometria, encontrou-se redução significativa da capacidade vital forçada (23,52%), do volume expiratório forçado no primeiro segundo (26,23%) e do pico de fluxo expiratório (10,12%) (p=0,001). As pressões expiratórias e inspiratórias máximas também diminuíram significativamente (25,45 e 32,92%, respectivamente). Observou-se diminuição significativa do bem-estar físico e do bem-estar funcional, e um aumento significativo da fadiga no FACT-F (p=0,001). Não foram observadas correlações entre as variáveis da função pulmonar com a dose de radiação e fadiga. Em curto prazo, a RT promoveu redução na função pulmonar, mas a mesma permaneceu próxima à normalidade para a amostra estudada. Observou-se aumento significativo da fadiga e diminuição dos escores dos domínios bem-estar físico e funcional.

This study compared the pulmonary function and fatigue in patients before and after adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) and correlated the pulmonary function with the radiotherapy dose and fatigue. A longitudinal and observational study was conducted involving 20 women. Pulmonary function was evaluated by digital lung spirometry (ClementClarke®) and manometry (GlobalMed®, model MVD 300) and fatigue was analyses by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Fatigue (FACT-F). All evaluations were conducted before the first RT session and up to one week after this treatment. Statistical analyses were conducted by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Spearman, considering p<0.05. There was significant reduction at spirometry parameters: forced vital capacity (23.52%), forced expiratory volume in the first second (26.23%), peak expiratory flow (10.12%) (p=0.001). Maximal expiratory pressure (25.45%) and maximal inspiratory pressure (32.92%) also showed significant reduction at manometry. There was a significant reduction on physical well-being and functional well-being and a significant increase in fatigue evaluated by the FACT-F (p=0.001). There was no correlation between pulmonary function, radiation dose and fatigue. Short-term effects of radiotherapy showed reduction of pulmonary function, but the values were considered similar to normal. There was a significant increase in fatigue, and significant decrease of physical well-being and functional well-being.

El presente estudio comparó la función pulmonar y la fatiga de mujeres antes y después de la radioterapia (RT) como ayudante para el tratamiento del cáncer de mama, y se correlacionó la función pulmonar con la dosis de radiación y fatiga. Fue realizado un estudio observacional longitudinal involucrando 20 mujeres. La función pulmonar fue evaluada por espirometría (ClementClarke®) y manovacuometría (GlobalMed®, modelo MVD 300) y, la fatiga fue evaluada por la Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Fatigue (FACT-F). Todas las evaluaciones fueron realizadas antes de la primera sesión y una semana después del término de la RT. Para el análisis estadístico fueron utilizados los tests Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test y correlación de Spearman, adoptando un nivel de significancia p<0,05. En la espirometría, se encontró reducción significativa de la capacidad vital forzada (23,52%), del volumen espiratorio forzado en el primer segundo (26,23%) y del peak de flujo espiratorio (10,12%) (p=0,001). Las presiones espiratorias e inspiratorias máximas también disminuyeron significativamente (25,45 y 32,92%, respectivamente). Se observó disminución significativa del bienestar físico y del bienestar funcional, y un aumento significativo de la fatiga en el FACT-F (p=0,001). No fueron observadas correlaciones entre las variables de la función pulmonar con la dosis de radiación y fatiga. En corto plazo, la RT promueve la reducción de la función pulmonar, pero los valores son considerados similares a los normales. Se observó aumento significativo de la fatiga y disminución de los puntajes en los dominios de bienestar físico y funcional.
