Abstract Paper aims The research aims at identifying the main drivers that motivate companies to adopt PSS towards a framework considering strategic, tactical, and operational levels. Originality Paper´s relevance comes from the development of a research tool that can be used by other researchers in different PSS research whether related to strategic issues or driven by low environmental impact trends. In addition, PSS drivers construct analysis. Research method A survey-based method, with a questionnaire with 30 questions were developed based on previous literature and applied to 85 executives, qualified to answer questions specifically related to the driven forces towards PSS, from different industries in Brazil. The survey data was analyzed by structural equation modeling. Main findings The results identified six main drivers: competitive advantage, portfolio, co-creation, co-production, integrated solution, and environmental sustainability. Besides, a framework looking at the integration of these six drivers is discussed in a three-level perspective strategic, tactical, and operational. Implications for theory and practice The paper could support organizations that are aiming at being a PSS provider by providing a better understand of the main drivers for moving towards product-service system solutions and it provides empirical support for the effects of hybrid models in manufacturing companies.

Resumo: O gerenciamento do conhecimento é um dos principais recursos a permitir que projetos e organizações lidem com os desafios do mercado competitivo atual. Esse estudo tem como objetivo investigar os temas centrais da gestão de conhecimento no contexto de projeto, explorando a relação entre gestão de conhecimento e o desempenho de projetos. Para tal, foi realizada uma revisão de literatura, adotando análise bibliométrica, codificação e análise de conteúdo. O processo de busca e amostragem foi conduzido na base de dados da Web of Knowledge (Web of Science Core Collection). Os resultados identificaram as principais estratégias para lidar com que os conhecimentos tácito e explícito, que são aquisição de conhecimentos de especialista e documentação do projeto por meio de formulários codificados, respectivamente. Ambos os tipos de conhecimento, tácito e explicito, estão mais intensamente relacionados a duas dimensões de sucesso: eficiência na GP e sucesso do produto / serviço. A literatura aponta que muitas organizações reconhecerem a importância da gestão do conhecimento, mas ainda são muitas as barreiras para sua implementação na prática.

Abstract: Knowledge management is a key resource for enabling projects and organizations to address the current challenges of competitive environment. This article aims to investigate the central themes of knowledge management in the project context, exploring the relationship between knowledge management and project performance. For this purpose, a literature review was carried out, adopting bibliometric analysis, codification and content analysis. The search and sampling process was conducted in the Web of Knowledge (Web of Science Core Collection) database. First, the results identified the main strategies to deal with tacit and explicit knowledge, which are experts’ knowledge acquisition and project documentation through coded forms, respectively. Both types of knowledge, tacit and explicit, are strongly related to two of the project success dimensions: GP efficiency, and success of the product/service. The literature pointed out that organizations recognize the importance of knowledge management but they still face many barriers to implement it in practice. The publications allowed verifying that the subjects are still little related, making it a challenging field for future studies.

Abstract Paper aims The research aims to identify the main barriers to scaling up the energy production expansion systems from biogas and biomass in Brazil. Originality This article aggregates information and different perceptions from a systemic view for bioelectricity production from biomass. It brings to the fore the discussion of bioenergy production from other types of biomass, which encompass a wide range of actors in the production chain. Research method We adopted a qualitative approach by applying semi-structured interviews with 19 experts from 15 institutions considering various biomass and biogas power generation segments. Main findings This paper identifies five barrier categories that restrain or affect the country’s broad electricity production from biomass and biogas: circumstantial, cultural, technical, and include other uses of biogas and biomethane. The financial and cultural barriers are the most mentioned by the experts. Financial difficulties of the plants, sector conservatism, issues in the electricity sector, and lack of knowledge limit the potential and interest in developing new projects. Implications for theory and practice The results contribute to the development of sectoral public policies as it brings up non-explicit information and reveals broad perspectives aimed at integrating the themes of biogas and biomass. Also, the research adds to the debate on the analysis boundaries of this theme and can support future empirical studies in developing countries that seek to expand renewable sources to power generation from biomass.

Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é elaborar um panorama da literatura sobre Gestão de Projetos (GP) em Pequenas e Médias Empresas (PMEs) através da análise da evolução das publicações e principais temáticas entre 1996 e 2016 para motivar futuras pesquisas que auxiliem PMEs a usarem práticas de Gestão de Projetos de forma mais eficiente. O estudo foi conduzido por bibliometria associada à análise de conteúdo das publicações coletadas nas bases Web of Science e Scopus e no periódico International Journal of Project Management. Para tanto, os softwares VOSviewer, Nvivo, Minitab e Excel foram utilizados nas análises. A varredura de 235 publicações sobre Gestão de Projetos em PMEs permitiu traçar um panorama da literatura. Ademais, quatro categorias temáticas se destacaram: Práticas de Gestão de Projeto, Sistemas de Planejamento e Controle, Colaboração e Gestão de Conhecimento. Como características da gestão de projetos em PMEs, observa-se a necessidade de uma metodologia mais leve, flexível e orientada a pessoas. Adicionalmente, os resultados apontam que os principais desafios envolvem a falta de recursos e pessoal qualificado, além da alta rotatividade. Entretanto, superando essas questões, a GP pode beneficiar o crescimento e a inovação em PMEs. Portanto, o estudo apresenta um quadro conceitual de benefícios e desafios da gestão de projetos em PMEs, reduzindo a lacuna de pesquisa no tema. Além disso, são apresentadas recomendações para pesquisas futuras, principalmente no Brasil.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to design an overview about Project Management (PM) in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) by analysing the evolution of publications and the main topics since 1996 to 2016 to motivate future research that helps SMEs to apply PM practices more efficiently. This study performed bibliometrics associated with content analysis of publications collected in scientific bases Web of Science and Scopus and in the periodic International Journal of Project Management. For that, the software VOSviewer, Nvivo, Minitab, and Excel were used in the analyses. The scan of 235 papers about Project Management in SMEs supported a literature overview. Furthermore, four thematic categories are highlighted: Project Management Practices, Planning and Control Systems, Collaboration, and Knowledge Management. Moreover, it was observed that SMEs requires a lighter PM methodology, focused on people and flexible. Besides that, the results show that the main challenges involve a lack of resources and qualified people and the high turnover. However, overcoming these issues, PM can benefit growth and innovation in SMEs. Therefore, this study presents a conceptual framework of benefits and challenges in Project Management in SMEs, reducing the research gap. Furthermore, recommendations for future research, mainly in Brazil, are given.

Resumo: Projetos apresentam custos diretos e indiretos, os diretos são facilmente identificados e quantificados, já os indiretos, são difíceis de controlar, por serem gerados em prol de mais de um projeto, e mesmo não estando diretamente ligados às atividades, influenciam no seu orçamento. Este estudo visa apresentar métodos de identificação de custos indiretos, analisar modelos de estimativa adotados para sua mensuração, e também analisar formas de apropriação de custos em diversos projetos. O método adotado foi a análise de múltiplos casos, em empresas dos ramos industrial, comercial e serviços. Foi constatado que projetos com maior detalhamento do escopo mostram menor dificuldade na identificação de custos indiretos, influenciando diretamente o método de estimativa adotado. A estimativa de custos indiretos é específica para cada empresa, e sua complexidade é definida pela quantidade de dados disponíveis. A apropriação de custos indiretos difere entre os casos, mas tem objetivos similares em sua incorporação nas horas diretas dos projetos. Destaca-se a importância do planejamento do projeto na identificação de custos indiretos, na escolha de métodos de mensuração, e também nas formas de custeio para o orçamento.

Abstract Projects have direct and indirect costs; the direct ones are easily identified and quantified, the indirect ones are difficult to control, because they are generated in favor of more than one project, and even if they are not directly related to the activities, they influence their budget. This study aims to present indirect cost identification methods, analyze the estimation models adopted for its measurement, and also analyze ways of appropriating costs in several projects. The method adopted was the analysis of multiple cases in companies of the industrial, commercial and services sectors. It was verified that projects with greater detail of the scope show less difficulty in identifying indirect costs, directly influencing the method of estimation adopted. The estimate for indirect costs is specific to each company, and its complexity is defined by the volume of data available. The appropriation of indirect costs differs between cases, but has similar objectives in its incorporation in the direct hours of the projects. It is worth highlighting the importance of project planning in the identification of indirect costs, in the choice of measurement methods, and also in the forms of costing for the budget.

Abstract Paper aims This study aims to identify the key aspects of procurement in the Project Management context and their relation to project success. Particularly, the effects of selection criteria, supplier integration and the dynamics of acquisitions are investigated. Originality This study contributes to the literature by analysing in depth a large sample of articles that deal with procurement in the Project Management context. This study also presents implications for practice by exploring how procurement management affects project success. Research method The methodological approach is a systematic literature review, combining bibliometrics and content analysis. Main findings The results show that academic literature focuses on the dynamics of acquisitions, lacking studies on the spectrum of supplier integration and supplier selection criteria. A strong relationship between the dynamics of acquisitions and project success dimensions could be established. Several insights into this relationship can be pointed out, as the effect of synergy with suppliers on the success dimension related to impact on the team. Implications for theory and practice The study contributes by identifying the relationship between the selection criteria, levels of supplier integration and dynamics of acquisitions with project success. Possible research gaps and trends are presented for future research.

Abstract Paper aims This paper aims to analyze the literature on standard management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, SA 8000, and ISO 26000), and to propose a conceptual framework relating these standards to sustainability (based on TBL) to help answer the following research question: How does the literature address IMS and sustainability based on TBL? Originality This research sheds light on controversies, discussed in the literature, concerning the effects of IMS with sustainability standards. Research method The methodological approach used is a systematic literature review based on bibliometric theory and social network analysis. A conceptual model is presented, linking the main constructs, variables, and their relations to better understand the role of IMS as a driver for sustainability. Main findings Briefly, results show that more research is needed on the social dimension of Triple Bottom Line, especially in the standards OHSAS 18001, ISO 26000, and SA 8000. Moreover, there is a gap considering empirical data on relating IMS impact on performance. Implications for theory and practice This paper contributes by proposing a conceptual model, defining the variables and presenting four relational propositions among the key variables. In a future research agenda, this study could be applied to survey-based research to answer the research propositions suggested.

Abstract Paper aims The collaboration among competitors represents a substantial challenge for most innovation processes of companies. This research aims to explore the factors influencing collaboration for innovation that involves competitors in the Fuzzy Front End phase. Originality This study provides an important advance in three aspects. First, it brings outstanding contributions to the process of generation of ideas and knowledge in a context that involves collaboration and competition simultaneously. In addition, the research examines how this has evolved over time, which were the main difficulties, which were the most significant barriers and necessary efforts to mitigate them. Another important contribution was learning generated on how to work ideas and opportunities in the Fuzzy Front End phase of innovation. Finally, it contributes to the identification of the main roles of Universities in this context. Research method The findings from a detailed case study on a Brazilian University-industry consortium in the automotive sector are presented. Main findings The results indicate a concentration of companies in three main groups with very different operations: the group related to the ring and cylinder lubrificantion system, the automakers and Universities. Implications for theory and practice The main practical and theoretical contributions of this research is exactly the pioneering nature with regard to automakers working collaboratively.

Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar a relação entre gestão de projetos e gestão do conhecimento. Para compreender a intersecção entre esses dois campos de pesquisa, a abordagem metodológica selecionada foi a de revisão sistemática da literatura. A abordagem multiestágios foi adotada, iniciando-se por análises bibliométricas, com análise estatística descritiva da população de artigos estudados, seguida de uma análise de cocitação e, por fim, por uma análise de conteúdo, buscando-se identificar tendências e lacunas de pesquisa. Os resultados apontam que a gestão de projetos e a gestão do conhecimento estão relacionadas com questões que envolvem as competências de gestores de projetos e da organização, a governança do conhecimento entre projetos por meio da área de Project Management Office, e com aspectos relacionados a fatores críticos de sucesso e sucesso de um projeto. Como tendência, destacam-se estudos voltados para a formação de times virtuais em ambientes formados por organizações distribuídas e, como um gap, a importância do conhecimento para projetos que envolvem questões de sustentabilidade, visto que foram identificados poucos estudos sobre esse assunto. Foi possível notar que esses construtos são essenciais para o desempenho organizacional e que, juntos, possuem uma sinergia que pode contribuir para que as empresas possam se diferenciar de seus concorrentes e alcançar vantagem competitiva.

Abstract The objective of this work is to investigate the relationship between project management and knowledge management. To understand the intersection between these two fields of research, the methodological approach selected was a systematic literature review. The multi-stages approach was adopted, starting with bibliometric analysis with descriptive statistical analysis of the population of papers studied, followed by a co-citation and network analysis, and finally a content analysis in order to identify trends and research gaps. The results show that the project management and knowledge management are related to issues involving the skills of project managers and of the organization, governance of knowledge between projects through the area of Project Management Office, and aspects related to factors critical to success and success itself of a project. As a trend, studies aimed at the formation of virtual teams formed by distributed organizations stand out, and as a gap, the importance of knowledge for projects involving sustainability issues, as few studies were identified about this subject. It was possible to notice that these constructs are essential to organizational performance, and that together they have a synergy that may contribute to enable companies to differentiate themselves from their competitors and achieve competitive advantage.

Resumo O presente estudo discute a incorporação do conceito de sustentabilidade corporativa à literatura de sistemas de mensuração de desempenho (SMD), resultando na investigação de publicações sobre SMD de sustentabilidade (SMDS). Este estudo apresenta uma visão geral da literatura sobre SMDS, sintetizando as principais contribuições e apontando as principais tendências e lacunas nessa área de conhecimento. O método de pesquisa baseou-se em uma revisão sistemática da literatura, combinando bibliometria e análise de conteúdo. A amostra é composta por 406 artigos científicos. Essa amostra foi analisada quantitativamente, com apoio de estatística descritiva, redes de cocitação e palavras-chave. O estudo mostra que o número de publicações sobre o tópico pesquisado tem crescido nos últimos anos, mas ainda permanece disperso, com baixa conexão entre “tribos”. O estudo apresenta também que, apesar de ser relativamente consolidada, a literatura sobre SMD ainda não foi utilizada em sua totalidade para abordar os desafios dos SMDS. Um dos resultados da pesquisa mostra que a literatura de SMDS pode ser dividida em três categorias, de acordo com o seu foco principal: (1) os indicadores de sustentabilidade em si e sua aplicação na tomada de decisão; (2) o conjunto de indicadores como sistema; e (3) o contexto organizacional do SMDS. Analisando essas categorias, verifica-se que há poucas evidências sobre as consequências da implantação de SMD, bem como que a literatura ainda não é clara sobre como gestores devem considerar contingências dos SMDS tais como setor, tamanho da empresa, tipo de produto ou modelo de negócio.

Abstract The present study discusses the incorporation of the concept of corporate sustainability into the literature of performance measurement systems (PMS), resulting in the investigation of publications on sustainability PMS (SPMS). This study presents an overview of the literature on SPMS, synthesizing the main contributions and pointing out the main trends and gaps in this area of knowledge. The research method is based on a systematic review of the literature, combining bibliometrics and content analysis. The sample is composed of 406 scientific articles. This sample was analyzed quantitatively, with support of descriptive statistics, co-citation network and keywords network. The study shows that the number of publications on the topic surveyed has grown in recent years, but still remains scattered, with low connection between tribes. The study also shows that, despite being relatively consolidated, the literature on SPMS has not yet been exhausted towards addressing the challenges of SPMS. One of the research results shows that the SPMS literature can be divided into three categories according to its main focus: (1) the sustainability indicators themselves and their application in decision making; (2) the set of indicators as a system; and (3) the organizational context of the SPMS. Analyzing these categories, there is little evidence on the consequences of the SPMS implementation, as well as the fact that the literature is still unclear on how managers should consider the contingencies of SPMS, such as industry, company size, type of product or business model.

Resumo: A crescente demanda por inovação e a necessidade de reduzir o tempo e o custo do desenvolvimento de novos produtos têm mudado o cenário automotivo nacional, o qual foi por muito tempo caracterizado por um modelo fechado de inovação. A tecnologia flex fuel tem sido um desafio para as empresas desse setor e é o fator motivador deste estudo, cujo principal objetivo foi compreender o processo de inovação aberta no contexto de Fuzzy Front End, identificando as principais motivações e os principais gargalos para implementação. Para atingir esse objetivo foi realizado um estudo de caso longitudinal em um consórcio composto por 9 empresas e 2 universidades. A metodologia envolveu pesquisa qualitativa e quantitativa. A principal contribuição teórica desta pesquisa é justamente o pioneirismo no que diz respeito às empresas montadoras automotivas trabalhando de forma colaborativa. Esta pesquisa também tem implicações gerenciais importantes. Ela indica as peculiaridades que devem ser consideradas quando em um ambiente de coopetição, bem como sugere aos gestores de que forma trabalhar as fases iniciais da inovação. A pesquisa retrata bem o papel das universidades nesse contexto.

Abstract: The growing demand for innovation and the need for reducing time and cost of new products development have changed the Brazilian automobile scenario, which has been characterized by a closed innovation model for a long time. Flex fuel technology has been a challenge for the companies in this sector, and it is the motivating factor of this study, which aimed to understand the open innovation process within the fuzzy front end context, identifying the main motivations and implementation gaps. In order to reach this goal, a longitudinal case study has been carried out in a consortium composed by nine companies and two universities. The methodology has involved some qualitative and quantitative research. The main theoretical contribution from this research is precisely the pioneering concerning the automobile assembly companies working in a collaborative way. This research has also major managerial implications. It points out the peculiarities that shall be considered in a coopetition environment, as well as makes suggestions to the managers regarding the way of working the initial innovation phases. The research portrays well the role of the Universities in this context.

Resumo: As empresas têm mostrando crescente interesse na adoção de práticas relacionadas à sustentabilidade para mitigar riscos e aumentar suas chances de sobrevivência. Nesse contexto, os indicadores de desempenho alinhados ao desenvolvimento sustentável são fundamentais para apoiar decisões gerenciais e operacionais. O presente artigo teve como objetivo avaliar aspectos ligados ao desempenho da sustentabilidade corporativa aplicados no contexto brasileiro. Mais especificamente, a pesquisa buscou analisar o desdobramento de iniciativas socioambientais no negócio das empresas e a adoção de relatórios com indicadores de sustentabilidade, destacando os desafios envolvidos nessas questões A pesquisa baseou-se em estudos de casos, explorando evidências empíricas em duas empresas de grande porte situadas no Brasil. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com os gestores responsáveis pelo departamento de sustentabilidade. Além disso, documentos internos e publicados, tais como relatórios de sustentabilidade das empresas, foram usados para gerar evidências adicionais para triangulação dos dados. A análise dos estudos de caso apontaram a dificuldade da incorporação da sustentabilidade no contexto empresarial, exigindo empenho intensivo de equipes multidisciplinares para compreensão das inter-relações e trade-offs entre os pilares da sustentabilidade. Além disso, verificou-se que o uso dos indicadores GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) podem servir como base para as discussões iniciais, mas ainda existem desafios para a implantação de sistemas de mensuração de desempenho de sustentabilidade estruturado nas empresas.

Abstract: Companies have been showing growing interest in the adoption of practices related to sustainability to mitigate risks and increase their chances of survival. In this context, performance indicators aligned to sustainable development are fundamental to support managerial and operational decisions. This paper aims to evaluate aspects related to corporate sustainability performance applied in the Brazilian context. More specifically, the research seeks to analyze the unfolding of socio-environmental initiatives in the corporate business and the adoption of reports on sustainability indicators, highlighting the challenges involved in these issues. The research is based on case studies, exploring empirical evidence in two large companies located in Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with managers responsible for sustainability department. In addition, internal and published documents, such as sustainability reports, were used to generate additional evidence for data triangulation. The case studies analysis pointed out the difficulty of incorporating sustainability into the business context, requiring intensive efforts of multidisciplinary teams to understand the interrelationships and trade-offs between the pillars of sustainability. Moreover, it appears that the use of the GRI indicators (Global Reporting Initiative) can serve as a basis for initial discussions, but there are still challenges to implement a structured sustainability performance measurement system in companies.

Resumo A demanda por gerentes de projetos é crescente. Um dos principais fatores que impactam no desempenho desse profissional relaciona-se ao aspecto comportamental, ou seja, àquele em que as relações e o entendimento entre os indivíduos de um grupo são fundamentais. Ante essa problemática, o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma análise bibliométrica sobre aspectos comportamentais na gestão de projetos, buscando identificar as relações entre aspectos comportamentais e o gerenciamento de projetos. Para tanto, utilizou-se a metodologia bibliométrica: as bases de dados que compõem a amostra foram coletadas em ISI Web of Science e Scopus, desde que os artigos da Scopus também estivessem na base principal da ISI Web of Science. As análises sugerem ou evidenciam que os aspectos comportamentais, o “lado humano”, se apresenta como fator essencial para o sucesso na gestão de projetos.

Abstract Due to the growing demand for project managers, one of the main factors that impact their performance is related to behavioral aspects, namely that in which relationships and understanding between individuals in a group are key. Faced with this problem, we aim to perform a literature review on the behavioral aspects topic in project management in order to identify the relationship between behavioral aspects and project management. Therefore, we used the bibliometric methodology, and the database composing the sample was collected from the Web of Science - ISI and Scopus, since Scopus articles were also the main base in the Web of Science. Analyses suggest based on the behavioral aspects that the “human side” is an essential factor for increasing success in project management.

Resumo Este artigo busca analisar as relações de dois fatores críticos de sucesso (apoio da alta administração e a presença do gerente de projetos), e o desempenho dos projetos executados, bem como a relação entre maturidade organizacional em gerenciamento de projetos e o sucesso dos projetos. Estas relações foram testadas em termos de um conjunto de indicadores de desempenho, conhecidos como “triângulo de ferro”, que envolve conformidade com custo, prazo e qualidade (atendimento de requisitos do produto/serviço e às demandas dos clientes). Para confirmar ou refutar as hipóteses de pesquisa estabelecidas, esta pesquisa adotou uma abordagem quantitativa, com um levantamento (survey) na região metropolitana de São Paulo junto a 336 profissionais da área. Os resultados demonstraram relações estatisticamente significantes para os fatores críticos de sucesso estudados e para a maturidade organizacional em gerenciamento de projetos, sendo esta a variável com maior relação com o sucesso dos projetos executados.

Abstract This paper analyzes the relationships of two critical success factors (top management support and the presence of the project manager) to the success of executed projects as well the relationship between organizational maturity in project management and project success. These relationships were tested using a set of success indicators known as the “iron triangle” that involve compliance with budgeting, scheduling and quality (product/service requirements and customer needs). To test the hypotheses, this research adopted a quantitative approach with a survey of 336 project management professionals in metropolitan São Paulo. Statistically significant relationships were identified between project success and critical success factors and between project success and project management maturity. Project management maturity was the variable that was most related to project success.

Resumo Apesar da difusão crescente da gestão de projetos, ainda é incipiente a discussão de temas relacionados à sustentabilidade nas dimensões ambiental, social e econômica no contexto da gestão de projetos. Este trabalho tem o objetivo de avaliar a inserção da sustentabilidade em gestão de projetos. A abordagem metodológica utilizada foi a de estudo exploratório com abordagem qualitativa, realizada em seis projetos em empresas de serviços de alimentação. Para a coleta de dados foram utilizados documentos dos projetos e entrevistas semiestruturadas com os gestores dos projetos. Como resultados apresentam-se a sistemática da ferramenta preliminar de avaliação da sustentabilidade em projetos, bem como sua aplicação prática. Conclui-se que a ferramenta proposta apresenta uma sistemática lógica e aplicabilidade para avaliar a sustentabilidade no contexto de gestão de projetos. Finalmente, os resultados da avaliação mostram que a dimensão econômica ainda se sobrepõe às dimensões ambiental e social.

Abstract Despite the increasing diffusion of project management practices, the discussion of issues related to environmental, social and economic sustainability is still incipient. This study aims to assess the integration of sustainability into project management. The methodological approach used was an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, conducted in six projects in the food service companies. Data were gathered through project documents and semi-structured interview with the projects’ stakeholders. The results of the pilot tool for the systematic evaluation of sustainability in projects and its practical application are described. The paper concludes that the pilot tool proposed presents a systematic logic with applicability for assessing sustainability in the context of project management. Finally, the results of the assessment show that the economic dimension still overlaps the environmental and social dimensions.
